Great service, amazing food! We went in with a party of 11. We sat inside, they made room for us immediately. They brought out pitchers of soda to keep our glasses filled, were prompt with chips and salsa. Our orders came out quickly and all of us enjoyed our food. The atmosphere is great, service is great, food is fantastic. I can't wait to go back- Mill Valley is stunning.
The best Carnitas tacos I’ve ever had. Fantastic food and service and great for kids as well.
Local, neighborhood venue. Comfort food. Yummy breakfast burritos. Good, fresh ingredients in their tacos which we've had before. Extensive menu. It's a keeper.
Authentic mexican soul food, not for the faint of spice 😅, amazing homey, kitschy atmosphere, generous portions. Lovely people ❤️, try all the amazing sauces, the kids recommend the mustard habanero. You won't regret it!!
The wait staff are great and I love their shrimp burrito since the bread the shrimp. Grilled Fish tacos, Green enchiladas, are favorites super nachos. It’s not always about the food sometimes you just like a place because it feels good. You like the Decour the staff and the food is good, so does it need to be the best burrito you’ve ever had in your life it’s bigger than that.
The food was amazing. We had a burrito, tacos, corn cake and salad and everything was very tasty! The staff was attentive. Definitely recommend.
Been traveling to mill valley the last couple weeks for work and found this gem. I love mexican food and few places up here has the authenticity of mexican food quite like Joe's. We put it into our rotation for places to eat during the work week and dont think itll get replaced anytime soon. The burritos are fat and filled. If it's ever packed be sure to wait and enjoy a tasty dish from this place..
Adorable little Mexican restaurant. My partner has been here a number of times across the years and brought me here for the first time tonight. Service is super efficient and fast, the food is delicious and I loved the huge range of hot sauces. I can see why this place is a favourite, can't wait to come back!
excellent food and drink. service was efficient and effective. only drawback is the busy street out front if you sit there - but obviously not under their control. get u to taco. if ur lucky they'll have al pastor which is righteous
Fantastic food and service. Highly recommend the beef/chicken fajitas.
Most incredible Mexican food I’ve had in a decade. Fairly priced, beautiful interior, kind and considerate waitresses, and super fast service. It baffles me that this place has received anything less than a perfect 5 stars. May God and Goku bless this place.
Great food. Great people. Been coming here for 25+ years. I especially like the burritos and shrimp quesadilla. The avocado relleno is probably my favorite entree at any restaurant in Marin. Sitting outside watching the traffic go by on a nice day can be lovely, especially when the other guests control their dogs.
It was exactly what was needed after our hike in Muir Woods. They serve beer only but you can go next door for alcohol. She gave U.S. information on little town. Super nice staff fun little dive spot to visit.
Great food! Great experience! fast as well
Wow. Just wow. This place is not only a really cute spot but one of the best Mexican places I’ve been to in the Bay Area. I got the Carne Asada Tostada, a margarita and churros for dessert and everything was great. Their green salsa is amazing and I just wanted to drink it by itself. Fully recommend this place for a Saturday afternoon!!
The breakfast sandwich was next-level delicious. Service was amazing, staff was super friendly!
The marinated grilled red snapper tacos were outstanding—fresh, tender, and perfectly cooked. The tangy, creamy sauce had just the right touch of spice and never overwhelmed the fish. I’ve been coming to Joe’s since the early ‘90s, and they still deliver every time.
Love Joe’s Tacos! I’ve been several times, but I’m especially loving the outdoor dining vibe during the pandemic. Ample outdoor seating with table service. Indoor vibe (from pre pandemic times) was also so lovely, eclectic and happy decor. Excellent super nachos and enchiladas. Kind and attentive service. Whoever Joe is should be proud.
This was a really fun local restaurant. Good for kids and adults. The service was excellent. Food was delicious
Amazing Experience! This restaurant is incredible, and the food is outstanding. They serve the best burritos I've had during my three-week trip—and trust me, I’ve tried quite a few! I highly recommend the chorizo burrito, it's simply fantastic. If you're a burrito lover, this place is a must-visit!
I am a self proclaimed burrito snob and let me tell you, the burrito I had here was amazing. I have an Indian spice tongue and grew up around all Hispanics. My girlfriend and I stopped by here after hiking Mt Tam and we were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. They have hot sauces of every variety and the service was quick and timely. My girlfriend ordered the Baja prawn tacos and I ordered a carnitas wet burrito. Both were incredibly tasty and filling.
The plethora of hot sauces is amazing! The service is great, and the food is even better!!
There outdoor seating is a newer feature rendering it cool not just chic. The menu items and alla carte recipes aren't a swindle and always work. Try the tacos for a swift memory.
Came here for dinner before a show across the street at the Marin Theatre Company. I had the fajitas, and they were delicious. Quite crowd here, this place is popular! Interior ambiance is nice and upbeat.
Stopped here after a hike in Muir Woods. We had great fish and chicken tacos and appreciated the decor and overall vibe. We made use of the extensive hot sauce collection on the wall.
Awesome food, reasonable price and great specials. Came out fast but good temperature. Fresh, real agua frescas. We knocked over one of our glass bottle drinks while we were there after we had a change of plans and they let us stay to eat indoors instead of to go, and I felt sooo terrible but they were super understanding. Great place, we stopped on a whim and I would definitely go back. 10/10 service and fresh food! Not too salty either thank goodness.
The Sloppy Jose at Taco Joe's in Mill Valley is a hedonistic assault on the senses, a fireball of Tex-Mex fusion that will set your taste buds ablaze and leave you questioning the very concept of what a Sloppy Joe can, or should, be. Imagine, if you will, the traditional Sloppy Joe hijacked by a band of tequila-drunk desperados, tossed over the border, and slapped with a dose of jalapeño fury. The beef is seasoned like it’s been through a back-alley brawl with a spice rack, each bite punching you square in the tastebuds with cumin, chili, and a whisper of garlic that’s just the right amount of wrong. This thing is an ungodly mess, a dripping, molten symphony of meat and sauce slathered onto a soft bun that has no business trying to contain such madness. Each bite teeters on the edge of chaos, queso fresco spilling out like some unhinged salsa explosion. Grab a pile of napkins; hell, grab a mop. This burger doesn’t just ask you to get your hands dirty – it demands it. It’s a gleeful, greasy assault that dares you to take one more bite, even as you stare down at your sauce-streaked hands, knowing you've entered a point of no return. The Sloppy Jose at Taco Joe’s is not a sandwich; it’s an experience, a meat-fueled reckoning that only the brave or the deranged would dare to tackle. If you’re weak of heart or low on appetite, stay far, far away. But if you’re ready to wrestle with a culinary beast and embrace the chaotic thrill of the Sloppy Jose, by all means, dive in. And may God have mercy on your soul.
I recently visited Joe's Taco Lounge and was blown away by the amazing tacos they have on offer! The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the toppings were fresh and delicious. They have a great selection of hot sauces too, so you can customize your taco to your exact liking. Whether you're a fan of mild or extra spicy, Joe's Taco Lounge has something for you. The atmosphere of the restaurant is also really fun and laid-back. It's a great place to grab a quick bite or hang out with friends over some delicious food. The staff were friendly and attentive, making sure that we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Overall, I highly recommend Joe's Taco Lounge to anyone looking for some seriously delicious tacos. The hot sauces are a must-try, and the overall dining experience is fantastic. Don't miss out on this gem of a restaurant!
Decided to give Joe's a try after spending the day at Muir Park. The food was very good and had amazing authentic taste. My kids had the shrimp burritos and they were HUGE packed with shrimp. My husband had the prawn tacos and I had a veggie / chicken enchiladas. Our waitress was very nice and offered suggestions on what to try. Their margaritas and sangria was meh! I was also shocked by the price for chips and guacamole a bit pricey.
Great Food. Great atmosphere and good customer service.
Cool atmosphere. Love all the hot sauces lined up. The tacos we had were just good. A little bland and tortillas collapsed easily but we did love the salsas and the carnitas tacos were pretty good.
The food was quite good (better than I expected) and the atmosphere was wild! I loved that no matter where you looked there was something of interest to see. I could spend an hour just looking at the walls. I had tacos- they were very good. We enjoyed our chips & queso. Great place to stop for a quick lunch if you're on your way to visit Muir Redwoods. Great people watching as well. This place draws the sort of people that look like they have a story to tell.. or time traveller's.
I’m in between a 3 and 4 star rating here. Most of the food we tried is a 4ish but the portions are very small for the price. The guac, chips and salsa are overpriced and not very tasty. Tacos are decent. Shrimp and garlic quesadillas are delicious.
Fresh guacamole was a great surprise! Food was fresh and tasted good too, though a little oily (what can you expect from mexican though?). Great service too. Down to earth kinda place, not real fancy. Great for a quick bite or a conversation with an old friend.
Theres no other place like joes that you will find in mill valley. The mexican food is authentic. They play the music to set the food mood. U can eat inside or outside. Its on the smaller side so it tends to get very crowded. They have tons of hot sauces to try out and its just very comfy place.
Variety of vegan options available. The fried tofu burrito was great! Also loved the grilled veggie burrito with tofu (this one was less fried and definitely a favorite). Will be back to try the tostada. Loved the outdoor seating, though inside has a great vibe too. Extra points for attentive and fast service
I’ve been eating here for over 20 years, and the quality never changes. The Street Burger is the best deal in town, and just the right amount of spicy; I keep meaning to try the street dog. I love the Vallarta fish tacos but sub in the salsa negra. I do prefer Grilly’s nachos, but Joe’s quesadillas are delicious, and the Popcorn Shrimp are the bomb. Like their chips and pico de gallo, but always ask for the chipotle as well, which is refrigerated in the back.
The food was great, we got the carne asada burrito and the pollo adobado and the kids cheese enchilada. We would definitely get their tacos next time. The service wasn’t great. Our waters were never refilled, they didn’t give us any silverware for our toddler and we had to go searching for a high chair and didn’t find one until a family sitting next to us and had eaten here before found one for us.
We loved our lunch at Joe's Taco Lounge! Delicious, plentiful and enough variety to please everyone from toddler to Grandma. The burger may well be the best in Marin, and fries were crispy. Fish tacos, carnitas tacos and the nacho plate were all tasty, served by attentive waitstaff. Prices very fair. I gave the atmosphere 4 stars because it's pretty much classic greasy spoon, but we thought it was fun.
My husband and I agree that it is very hard to mess up a taco, but they definitely did. I ordered the carne asada tacos which tasted more like croc pot roast beef tacos & my husband ordered the chicken tacos which were a little better but still not great. The people were very nice & the service was great, but we will not be back.
has been an MV icon for years – good Mexican food…. BUT the (non-Hispanic) manager is unfriendly and rude. Spend your money, eat, but don’t politely ask the the manager for anything special. You’ll likely get rudeness. The rest of the staff are lovely but the manager left a sour taste in my mouth.
I like their burritos. They are better than most places around Mill Valley. Their "Torta" is not my favorite though. I can't find an authentic Torta anywhere out here. Their Torta is actually a steak fajita sandwhich. It includes no avocado, salsa, crema, pickled jalapeño, or queso fresco. It consists of steak, bell peppers, onions and cheese. It's more akin to a Philly cheese steak than an authentic Mexican torta. It was not bad, I just was expecting a real torta when I placed the order over the phone.
If you are looking for some authentic Mexican food its definitely not here the only alright food here is the fries and thats just a side dish and the only type of salsa that we got was chopped tomatoes and onions and if you are a large party they charge extra
First time here and won’t be back. First, the place needs a good cleaning top to bottom. They charge $3.50 for chips and salsa. The salsa had no taste and was just chunks of tomato and onion. Our quesadilla was dry and overcooked, and the grilled chicken in my salad was burnt. There are so many better places.
I live a couple blocks from this place and want so badly to love it. But sadly I can only describe it as aggressively mediocre. The atmosphere and vibe of this place are great - the interior is smartly decorated to make it stand out, and the outdoor seating out front is great for a nice day. It's an awesome place for a beer and some chips. But the food just consistently falls a bit short. Things like underseasoned meat, undercooked rice, basic things that shine through every time. I'd love to be proven wrong over time! But for now I try to get my Mexican fix elsewhere.
Griddled corn cake was really smokey and tasted a bit charred. The sour cream added a nice mouth feel with its creamy fatness. Baja prawn taco was delicious! Tasted light and crunchy although it was breaded and deep fried. Great flavor. Grilled pacific snapper taco was also a bit smokey and got soggy and fell apart when I ate it after the other taco. I think too many juices made the soft corn tortilla a bit soggy, so I wasn’t able to pick it up with my hand and instead had to eat it using a fork.
Stopped by this place after catching some waves at Stinson beach. I was craving some fish tacos and my friend who is a local recommended this place. They have a nice front patio where you can enjoy the food in the great weather. I had the vallarta fish tacos and the horchata and those were delicious! I’d come back here for those. However I tried my friends’s food, the carne asada and pollo tacos and burritos and they were just okay. Also had chips with guacamole and that was also not very good. The carne asada was a bit chewy and potentially because they were cut with the grain. And the guac tasted a bit bitter and not fresh probably because they are puréed for efficiency. Come here for the fish tacos though!
I stop by to eat here we choose sitting outside it was nice weather. Food was ok. Waiters where friendly but unfortunately they didn't tell me the guacomale an chips where NOT complementary the waiter offer it right away as we where siting down with out us even looking at the menu so I thought it was complementary like other restaurants i been too. He never mentioned it had an extra cost i would have said no. So when we sit down I focus on the food not to check if chips and salsa had an extra cost. For chips ans salsa was 13.99 I didn't say anything because we obviously eaten it. But would of been nice to know ahead if time. Spend a total of 55$ plus tip for 2 ppl i had a plate of green enchiladas and my bf had 2 fish tacos and 2 cokes. Definitely not worth it in my opinion specifically if u come to enjoy the bay with a tight budget.
I have been going to this place since they opened many years ago. It used to be one of my favorite restaurants in Mill Valley, and due to its proximity to my family's house, I will likely continue to go there. But I have to say that the quality has really gone downhill in the last couple of years. Yesterday, we had a couple of breakfast burritos here that were about half the size of a regular burrito, and together with tip, they cost us nearly $30. They also weren't flavorful at all and seemed to consist mostly of egg. Very disappointing.
Subpar Mexican restaurant that we went to since it was close to Muir Woods. They have an authentic vibe, an expansive menu, and lovely staff who were nothing but kind; however, their food was lacking and on the pricier side. We had the special of mole enchiladas and regular chicken enchiladas. The mole sauce was watered down and too sweet, while the regular chicken enchiladas were a little dry. They also charge $3.50 for chips and salsa.
A mill valley classic but probably only tastes like home because they’ve been eating it for 40 years. The snapper tacos are 100% cod. Without a shadow of a doubt. When I called them out on it, the young teenage waitress (who was an angel) asked them and they claimed they don’t ever have cod but no one came out to discuss it or offer me something else on the menu. Smells like fish. Snapper is obvious when you eat it, and cod even more so because of the after taste. This was white cod. They charge for the chips, which were so stale they were inedible. The green salsa was filled with emulsifiers. Definitely didn’t taste like home made
Two occasions in a row I placed orders, very specific about being vegan. The server acknowledged and said she understood and that the food would be made accordingly. The first of those occasions, the first bite I took had a huge chunk of steak in it. The second occasion they brought my food with their slaw in it, and after a few bites, I grew suspicious of it and asked what was in it, and the kitchen staff told her mayonnaise (eggs). I had a few good experiences before these, but won't be going back after them, as I no longer believe that they listen or care about what the customer asks for. If you aren't vegan and don't have any allergies or dietary restrictions, I would say it's a good place to go. Otherwise I would steer clear.
Loved this place, but a few nights ago a huge roach ambled across our table. I pointed it out to the waiter and he simply takes my napkin and smashes roach and slides the remnants across table right in front of me and my dinner. So disgusting.
Disappointing Experience: Joe's Taco Lounge Falls Short of Authenticity and Value I recently had the opportunity to visit Joe's Taco Lounge in Mill Valley, and unfortunately, my experience left a lot to be desired. As someone who is Mexican and appreciates the authenticity of Mexican cuisine, I was sorely disappointed by the lackluster offerings at this establishment. First and foremost, the food was simply bad. It completely missed the mark when it came to authenticity. The flavors lacked the vibrant and bold characteristics that define genuine Mexican cuisine. It felt as if they were attempting to imitate the flavors without truly understanding the essence of the dishes. From the bland tacos to the uninspiring salsas, there was no spark or passion in the food. To make matters worse, the prices at Joe's Taco Lounge were exorbitant considering the subpar quality of the food. As a customer, I expect to pay a fair price for an enjoyable dining experience, but that was certainly not the case here. The high prices were simply unjustifiable given the mediocre taste and lack of authenticity. It felt like they were trying to capitalize on the popularity of Mexican cuisine without putting in the effort to deliver on the promises they made. Based on my experience, I highly recommend people to steer clear of Joe's Taco Lounge. It fails to live up to the expectations of genuine Mexican cuisine, and the inflated prices only add insult to injury. As someone who has a deep connection to Mexican food, I feel compelled to share this warning, hoping that others won't fall into the same disappointing trap. There are plenty of other authentic Mexican restaurants in the area that offer delicious, well-priced meals. Save yourself the disappointment and explore other options that truly honor the rich culinary traditions of Mexico.
I think this is one of the worst restaurants you can ever eat... My family and I we ordered some food from this place and everything didn't taste good at al. I ordered a carne asada burrito, and I ended up getting a virria burrito, so I told them my burrito was made with a different meet. They said to me that they don't sell other meet then asada, which is stake. I think what happens with these people is that the meet for virria is way cheaper than asada so they are selling a different and cheap meet for stake or Carne asada which is twice the price on top of that they forse costumer to pay 18% on tip i and up paying 24 dollars horrible place... I will definitely not recommend..
The best way to describe it is a lounge. A place to be lazy. My three steak tacos were soaking wet, packed full of hot lettuce. The steak was decent quality though. Was borderline shocked to unwrap that right now.
The outside seating was pleasant. I got the grilled fish tacos and while they weren’t the worst I’ve ever had, they didn’t blow me away either. The habanero mayo was a nice compliment, but my corn tortillas were not cooked and rather dry. My boyfriend had the carnitas burrito and said it was also dry. When we got the check we found out we were charged $8.50 for “chips and guacamole” but were never asked if we wanted it.
Got the asada tacos, very bland no flavor luckily I had salt in my truck but even then it wasn't great. Not even the salsa was hitting. 0/10 would not revist. Im from santa cruz and working over here I've come to learn alot of places are unseasoned and bland.
