Enjoyed a lovely stay over the weekend. We stayed in room 7. Lovely and clean. Staff very attentive, great breakfast and enjoyed Sunday lunch before heading home. Can’t wait to return next year.

Very friendly welcome from the staff. Had not booked and took a chance on a table being free and staff went out of their way to find us a table. Lovely pub with excellent value food and drink on the menu. Great menu with lots of options. Had the steak burger with bacon, very filling and tasty. Chips were excellent. Black Sheep beer was great. Will definitely recommend and return.

Landlady "Jordan" what a lovely lady... Very cheerful and welcoming The queen's head hotel is rather nice... The whole family are pitching in since Jordan took over last year... Vivian was busy cleaning today and doing a brilliant job, the bar and tea rooms looked spotless (Photos) she was another really nice lady... When Vivian left I was left in the capable hands of another family member Paula who lit the real fire and made the other customers feel welcome. The Queens head is a unique multi leveled building with 9 letting rooms Very comfy seating and a warming fire made it feel very cosy, free carpark I had a great cup of tea in the dining room surrounded by locals enjoying a coffee morning get together... This is a great hub for the locals. Thank you for looking after me during my visit 🙂👍

Lovey cosy warm room. Loved how high the bed was and very comfortable. The bathroom was very modern but had a very strong smell of ammonia that made my eyes water and gave me a bad head. Am guessing it was what was used to clean it but the smell never left. The breakfast was lovely too . Cooked fresh to order. I loved the fact that dogs can stay to I will remember that for future reference. The bar had a lovely vibe with local folk .

I have been staying at the Queens regularly over the last few months and I couldn't recommend it highly enough, rooms are very warm, clean and comfortable. The restaurant is great and the bar is the best in Rothbury . Jordann and her team are very welcoming and attentative , I wouldn't stay anywhere else .

Stayed here for two nights 23rd&24th June and thoroughly enjoyed it , good food , lovely comfortable beds , would definitely return but as we are getting on a bit would request a room on the lower floors, stairs were a bit taxing , but nice cosy inn with a bit of character right in the town centre and always a plus , “ample parking !

Thoroughly enjoyed a meal at The Queens Head this evening. Service from Catherine and Jordan was exceptional. The set menu was a great deal. Will be back!

Sunday Lunch Advertised as their "famous Sunday roast," I'm not sure of its status of being famous, but I will say it was really excellent! My husband had the roast chicken and I had the roast beef, both were generous portions. There were both roast and mashed potatoes, seasonal vegetables, mine had a Yorkshire pudding and the chicken came with stuffing. There was also the best gravy I've had in a long time. Thoroughly enjoyed everything about the meal. We were both too full to have a desert, which was a shame as the choices all sounded delicious. The service was good and the price was very reasonable for the quality of the meal. The only negative was that you couldn't pay at the table, rather you had to go into the bar and queue up to pay, with only one person working on the bar it wasn't the best end to a lovely meal. Maybe this is something the management should consider changing.

My mum gifted her competition prize of a Sunday roast for two to my husband and I and we had a wonderful time. The food was delicious, with a lovely selection of fresh vegetables, and the service was fantastic - so friendly. The decor and furnishings are looking lovely following the recent refurb, too. We’ll definitely be going again soon!

Had food here and it was great. Decent size portions, good value and the Steak and Ale pie was pie and not just a lid on top! Highlight was the dessert, I know it's hard to get sticky toffee pudding wrong but this was very nice. For a smallish place it had a good set of menu options, so it's worth going to if you are in the area.

I called in just prior to our booking to leave a birthday cake. The staff were so kind and made sure the table that was reserved would be suitable. When we arrived for our lunch they had put balloons on a chair and a banner was on the wall. Our food was delicious and my grandchildren were also made welcome. They made our celebration perfect. Thanks you all the staff 💕💐

Delicious meal, lovely cosy atmosphere and excellent service! Enjoyed a homemade chicken and ham hock pie and rump steak - both very tasty and good portion sizes. Thank you and we’ll be back!

Stayed for the weekend at The Queens Head, enjoyed a Sunday roast before heading back home. Fantastic service from the young girls running the hotel. We opted for the Trio of meats. Great value for money. Our bed was comfortable, room warm and plentiful with tea and coffee. Will definitely be back to visit.

Stayed over for 1 night with our dogs. Dog friendly bar . Rooms nice clean and had everything in that you needed. My probelm booked a twin and was in room 8 at very top of building and since booking had a probelm with walking so stairs were a problem for me (no lift) Had a meal in restaurant on the night which was lovely Breakfast in the morning again plenty to choose from and all cooked fresh Staff friendly and helpful We came on a a Saturday in September with yellow weather warnings so all got soaked when walking the dogs . But dried off quickly as heating was on in rooms (a few puddles from wet coat ) Would stay again if in this area but would ask for a room further down (booked through a booking site . Would ring direct next time )

Visited the Queens head with my mother's side of the family some of whom were visiting from Tennessee. We had a couple of rounds of drinks and a lovely Sunday lunch. Good variety of food served (we all had something different), the staff/servers were diligent and enthuastic and we enjoyed our meal. There was room for us all to park our cars and plenty of seating inside and out.

Absolutely loved our 2 day stay here. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We were on the top floor which looked to be refurbished, it was lovely and quiet and had great views. We enjoyed full English breakfast on both days which was superb and set us up for some beautiful walks in the snowy Simonside Hills. Bar downstairs had a great atmosphere. Located right in the centre of Rothbury with parking at the rear. Visited the other bars and both Italians which were delicious. Thankyou for a really lovely stay.

This was our 4th stay at the Queens. We stayed here for our 45th wedding anniversary. The food as usual was delicious. Breakfast was perfect we ordered traditional breakfast which was served piping hot. It was tasty and plentiful. We also enjoyed a Sunday roast, my wife opted for roast beef & I chose pork. Absolutely delicious, service brilliant. Huge portions & great value for money. Friendly attentive staff, nothing to much trouble, for example additional sauces and extra coffee and milk for the room. We stayed in room 1, pleasant decor & very convenient for the breakfast room. We can't recommend the Queens Head highly enough. Excellent value for money & a fabulous town centre location. Well done to the team at the Queens for offering exceptional customer service again

Super stay at the hotel. Great evening meal. Great breakfast. Nice pint of ale and great service. Would have given it 5 but person on duty when we arrived was a bit curt.

Food is really good although a little shy on the veg as the portion recieved is for 2. Meat portion was really good some of the best gravy I've had. Dessert was also very tasty. Atmosphere was ok could of done with maybe some light music. Fealt like a library when we first entered. Staff seemed very rushed at times but also seemed to lack enthusiasm. This place is dog friendly.

Lovely little pub ,friendly service. I had the steak sandwich (bread was thin not how a bloomer is supposed to be) and was not worth the money. A big piece of fat was not what I wanted to chew on! Steak pie was lovely..

Jordan was very friendly, kind and helpful! My boyfriend and I came up from Newcastle for 2 nights, will definitely be coming back to this pub! Did not get to try their food, but we will next time! Dog friendly too, lovely!!

Went here to eat whilst in the area. Friendly host and great food. My wife had the Scampi which was plentiful and she said it was delicious as were the proper chips. I had a huge perfectly cooked mixed grill. all of it was obviously cooked to order. Only downside was the two unused handpumps.

Decent food and pleasant staff. Happy that full menu was available most of the day.

Very comfortable, clean with good decor and staff were very attentive. However, the food was not great…….very basic, not much going on and small portions. This place has lots of potential so I do hope they manage to sort out the standard of food.

Nice and friendly. I can imagine it being really cosy in the winter. Good sized room, nice comfortable bed. Bathroom spacious but the temperature controls on shower were hideous. The plastic trim on shower screen was bright green with slimy deposits. A soak in bleach and a squirt in the corner of the screen would have done wonders. I am not a picky 4 in a bed traveller but the manky trim was avoidable. All being said the rest was faultless. Food much better than I expected. The beer batter on the cod was perfectly crispy and well drained. Good prices too. Please sort out the bathroom of number 5!

No food in the evening, chef was off. Breakfast was ok, nothing special unfortunately. They need more cleaners, what they have is definitely not enough! Banister post going upstairs was filthy should have been white. The room was nicely decorated, very comfy bed but again a bit of spray bleach on paint work and in bathroom wouldn't have gone amiss. Disappointed:/

Lunch menu portion sizes were small especially the frittata, chips weren’t skin on fries more like bag of frozen chips. Fish fingers were tasty and crispy but came in sliced bread not soft farmhouse bread. Staff were friendly and warned us of the wait due to being a larger group.

Good food, good comfort beds only thing that affects my review was when I arrived there was 2 months in the bathroom and spiders on the ceiling

L

Our impression was of very much a local pub for local people, not exactly warm and friendly to visitors. The service was good once we were seated, however. The Sunday lunch was mediocre. Big portions, but not very fresh or flavourful. Not to my taste.

We went to The Queen’s Head in Rothbury for Sunday dinner and, honestly, it was really disappointing. Despite it only being around 2pm, they’d already run out of most things on the menu, which immediately limited what we could order. When the food arrived, it felt very basic and mass-produced — frozen roast potatoes, pre-made Yorkshire puddings, and what tasted like instant gravy. For nearly £20 a head, it didn’t feel good value at all and came across like an “Aunt Bessie’s” style dinner rather than something freshly made. I’m giving 3 stars because the setting is nice and the staff were polite, but the food quality and availability really need improving for the price point.

Food quality very poor time we waited for dinner on Monday and breakfast on Wednesday was in excess of 45 minutes. To be very disappointed on its arrival. Room needs good clean. Shower was appalling no control over temperature either too hot or cold and no water pressure. Staff however that we did encounter on our stay were nice and friendly especially Leo. Generally feel the hotel looks very tired in need of some TLC a shame because it's a nice building in a lovely area Thank you

Very noisy room, from kitchen extraction fan, shower far too hot (could not control it) and no rubber bath mat (very slippy getting in or out with no handles) and a radiator leak. The bed was comfy but had a blood stain. There was no daily room service, so no change of towels and make your own bed. The breakfast was ok but no cereals or fruit or yogurts. The evening meal was ok but very limited in choice and service was slow. The staff in general were good but 1 to 24 ment she was run off her feet and having to run up and down stairs to the kitchen (health and safety). The manager was not there all the time. To sum up needs a proper manager, daily room service, more food choices and it's over run with DOGS in the bedrooms and restaurant. In reply I must correct you, that i was never rude to you or any of your staff and i did not enter any room i shouldn't have, i saw your chef in the doorway and i stood outside the kitchen and spoke to your chef politely. You haven't addressed the comments on no cereals or yogurts and no room service with a blood stain on the bed, but thanks for moving us, we did not ask you to do that. Dogs should not be in the restaurant, anywhere else fine. Regards G

Very much a locals pub, but fairly friendly. Had two pints, both in a dirty glass. Seriously. The Turk's Head, just up the road, is a better option.

Such a disappointment. I had booked for a 3pm (I actually arrived early) Sunday lunch (as per website) making sure I was well inside the cut off time of 5pm for food. On arrival I was told they had no booking (not that it mattered as there were plenty of tables) Then I was told there were no roasts and a number of other items were off the menu too. I decided to stay and ate a very mediocre scampi and chips. Whilst I was there, a family came in to eat only to be told they stopped serving food at 3pm - not according to your website though! My waitress was The Queens Head’s saving grace, she was polite and helpful. I am on holiday in the area and was looking forward to that Sunday roast as advertised. A shame you got it wrong this time.

Went for Sunday lunch today, service was slow and it wasn’t busy. Barely anything left on the menu at 3pm. Ordered an extra side of creamed leeks, when the food arrived we advised we were missing them. Came back to say they had just ran out but they also weren’t on our plates with the food which it stated on the menu. Heard the table behind also complain of this so that can’t be true. You should be letting people know if something isn’t going to be on the plate if the menu states it’s included and offer to change it to something else. Beef was served pink which isn’t my taste, this should also be stated. Ended up feeding it to the dog. Everything was cheap frozen food. Chips were stale and reheated on my friends meal. Could just taste the fat on them. My friend had to change her vegetarian option twice as they’d ran out of all other options. Very disappointing meal

Disappointing visit, we had came earlier in the day for coffees and enjoyed the experience so with not much else open we decided to return for dinner. Myself and my partner ordered the same meal, however my partner specified she wanted no cheese or sauce on her burger, despite the menu making no mention of either. Our food was served and her burger inexplicably had both things on it. We brought this to the attention of the staff who were more than happy to make a new one, however the replacement still had sauce on. I understand this wasn’t necessarily the servers fault and could have been a miscommunication in the kitchen, but it still resulted in a rather awkward dining experience (especially considering my partner couldn’t have been clearer or more careful) , even with one burger being taken off the bill. Hate leaving negative reviews, but just wouldn’t want this to happen to someone else :(

Large, well appointed and recently refurbished rooms. Service poor - room ws not refreshed between our two nights there. Food was overcooked and slow arriving. Everything seemed to be run by young and inexperienced women, who were pleasant, tried hard but badly needed management and direction.

Asked for a table of 2 at 6pm, most of the tables were empty. Was told by the lady at the bar that they're taking bookings only. Bookings were available online for 630, 645 and 7pm - booked a table for 2 at 630pm. Went back in and was told it still wasn't valid!? Shocking service. Clearly empty tables at the place. Not returning!

Helen P

Abysmal. No Sunday dinner on a Sunday and sold out of anything resembling a Sunday dinner. Poor staff left to explain for shocking ordering on the kitchen staff's part. Painfully overpriced for what is on offer. Lots of other lovely places to eat in Rothbury. Try them first!

D
Dylan Barker

Visited The Queen’s Head for lunch with a group of six. We all ordered together at the bar, clearly stating the same table number. Despite this, only half the meals turned up after 50 minutes. The rest arrived 25 minutes later — that’s 1 hour and 15 minutes after ordering — and only because we chased it up at the bar. While the chips were clearly fresh, the burger had clearly been sitting around — it was barely lukewarm. One of the kids asked for BBQ sauce when the meals were brought out. The server said “no problem, I’ll grab it for you” — but never came back. The place is clearly massively understaffed out front. The team were pleasant enough but overwhelmed and disorganised. For a place that looks like it wants to offer decent pub food and service, this was a letdown. Won’t be returning. Price per person does not reflect the standards. Also if I may add, the biggest liberty is not telling people there is a wait. If at the bar we were told: hour wait on food you set expectations

D
D

Saw the state of the kitchen after having lunch there. Disgusting. Rough - broken window covered in cardboard. Smashed glass outside the entrance.

S
Sophie McCreesh

Called in for lunch as it seemed quiet and the menu looked good. Ordered a starter and a burger. Waited an hour to ask how long to be told it wouldn’t be long. After another half an hour we went to cancel the food and the order wasn’t even there so clearly hadn’t even checked. No apology or anything just walked away from us. Wouldn’t recommend. Burgers looked like tinned burgers from the one meal we seen leave the kitchen
