This joint is original and fun. Great food. Keeping it simple doing it right!
The food, service, & ambiance are EXCELLENT!! It’s such a super cute place too. I just wish the restaurant was closer to where I live so I could go more often. Whenever I’m in town this is now my go to spot for food. Blessings ❤️💜🦋
We found this place and so happy we did! Beautiful outdoor seating area when weather is beautiful, as it was. Enjoyed freshly baked sourdough olive bread, along with hurricane brownies.
Nestled in the Heart of Oaji this quirky little open floor plan restaurant has something for everyone and offers exotically spiced unique dishes. Area was very clean and the hostess helped explain that the orders were made at the desk and delivered to the table. Portion size was very generous and the food was delicious. A bit on the expensive side, but if you want to try something new this is definitely a good spot to stop.
This spot is such a gem! Between the exceptional service, incredible food, and amazing wine selection, this is hands down my favorite place in Ojai! You can tell they really take pride in everything they serve! Thank you for such a wonderful experience, can’t wait to come back!
Excellent Lebanese food, family owned, friendly service. Wine shop has a good selection of regional wines. Reasonable prices. Great bread!
Next level deliciousness! The dippity dips, Lebanese flatbread, rotisserie chicken — all perfection. Super kind staff, a hilarious “chicken whisperer” chef Fernando and a gorgeous little patio to boot! Don’t miss this gem in Ojai :)
The food was delicious and the service is great. After we ordered and sat down it came like 3 minutes later. We got the rotie chicken, fox street salad and a one pound sourdough bread. The chicken was great and the salad was good. I would really recommend this restaurant. Great atmosphere as well. Very relaxing.
We ordered the picnic sandwiches (chicken and tuna). We appreciated their flexibility as it was a last minute order for delivery. They were attentive and quick to respond.
Awesome, fresh food! So pretty to sit there with family, food and wine. Love it!
This place is awesome I really love coming in here with my boyfriend and sharing the half chicken with sides, which is more than enough for two people at a reasonable price. I love the potatoes a lot. All the employees are wonderful and sweet. The bread is also amazing.
We worked with Rotie to host a rehearsal dinner for our wedding weekend. The food and service could not have been better. Each of our 30 guests were absolutely thrilled with the experience. To make matters even better, while talking with Lorenzo about the rehearsal dinner menu, I mentioned that we had not heard from the caterer of our wedding in a while. Lorenzo was quick to offer a solution and designed a beautiful menu full of variety. Rotie took care of our everything for the 110 person wedding, At the bars they crafted 2 unique cocktails in addition to an assortment of wine, beer and non alcoholic options. On the menu they even had great vegan and gluten free options for our guests with those diets. We are forever grateful to Rotie for helping make our wedding more special than we could have imagined.
The atmosphere and food were perfect! The potatoes with lemon sauce were my favorites.
We were traveling and decided to stop here for some food. Love the outdoor seating, especially in the California sun. Tried the kambucha and was impressed. The service was great and super fast. We ordered the chicken salad tartine (4.5), bread w/ sauce (5), hummus (5), and desert (2). My only gripe is with the desert. We ordered the Gelato, there were 3 flavors but only one (toasted apricot) was available. The flavor was subtle and was more a generally fruity flavor. Also, the texture was way too hard in my opinion. The cookies were good, but they are crunchy so make sure that's your thing. Overall super good, would go again
Good vibes, great food..love their garlic sauces
One of tge most enjoyable restaurants I've ever been to. The staff were awesome despite the bustling crowd. The food was delicious while being very unusual. Michelin 5 Star for overall performance and customer pleasure.
This place is an absolute gem. We drive all the way from Santa Barbara just to eat here, and it never disappoints ❤️
Long line but it moves quick. Order at the counter and self-seat outside. Food is very tasty, plenty of picnic tables in the patio, super friendly staff. Highly recommended and would eat here again.
Nic's in Beverly Hills was amazingly under-rated in terms of food during its long run as soulful, watering hole on the West Side. 70 miles to the north in the hip, artistic village of Ojai is the culinary rebirth of Larry Nicolla in the form of Rotisserie chick at Ojai Roti. The menu is small but everything is tasty. The food is ordered at a window and brought to your table. The value on our lunch for four was amazingly good. We had about one full chicken beautifully roasted. Crafty and tasty sides and a local strawberry tart served cold on a hot day outside was just fantastic. My 9-year old at nearly 1/2 of the hummus. We had to take the homemade baguette with us. We miss Larry but it is great to see him doing so well just to the north of us.
My wife and I dined in at Ojai Rotie, and loved it. Enough so that we wanted them to cater our wedding, which was October 2024 in Ojai. We say it often that this was one of the best decisions we could have made for our wedding day. I could go on and on and on about how much they went above and beyond for us to feel special, celebrated and cared for, but I'll share the following: 1. Our guests consistently told us how much they loved our reception and the meal. It was presented beautifully, it was utterly delicious, and approachable, fun to share, while still feeling beautiful and elevated. We have a number of chef/hospitality friends and a glowing consensus was just how good the meal was — and for a party of 55, that's no small feat. My wife and I are people that really care about food, ingredients, and preparing meals with care, and the Ojai Rotie team absolutely conveyed that for us to our family and friends. We are so grateful. 2. The service. Lorenzo, Leigha and their whole team were truly fantastic from the first email and phone call we had, to them staying late to clean, pack away our dishes and clean up the kitchen for us at the end of the evening. I genuinely can't express my gratitude enough — Leigha, you are incredible. 3. I love to bake, and have had my sourdough starter Josephine for a decade. Their loaves are fantastic! And the toum! Get it all together in one bite. You can't miss it.
Ojai Rotie is only one of the best places to get a meal in Ojai. This is a must visit if you are looking for a great meal in town. The chicken of course is amazing and the bread, well I can’t say enough about the bread. Great service and nice local vibes. I always make a point to eat here when I am in town.
The best food and dining experience during our visit to Ojai! We went at 12pm Sunday and it was getting busy! Plenty of outdoor seating in a beautiful open space, with benches and rustic vibes. - Drinks: Kellenaid (lavender, pixie tangerine and lemonade) for a refreshing and tart drink. - Quarter chicken plate with carrots and potatoes as sides - the garlic dip is delicious and the rub on the chicken is SO flavorful. *potatoes for the side is a must!!* - Chop salad - with papaya, feta cheese, chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers ~ summer in a salad!!! it was refreshing, pop of color and flavor with a light dressing and lots of crunch
Their family meal was really good. The food was really fresh.
How many restaurants can you say have really great food and are also fun!! Well this is the place. We had such a great dinner and laughed the entire time. They also cater!!!
This is my 2nd review. My wife and I had gone to have some drinks and celebrate our kids graduating. We went into the wine box and was greeted by deekron. He was very helpful and explained the different wines which helped my wife choose the right one as she is picky, lol. it was a pleasure to talk to him and he gave us great service. We will be back again to have some drinks and hopefully he will be serving us again. He deserves recognition for his kindness and helpfullness. Keep up the outstanding service deekron, you are a rare gem.
Had a 90th Birthday Celebration for my Mom here and it was awesome. We had 20 people at 3 tables, plus an appetizer table because I didn’t want everyone to just sit down right away. We didn’t reserve entire restaurant, but it was very comfortable and easy for some people to mingle and some to sit. Food was incredible and service was so loving. All 20 guests were blown away by how perfect it was. Thank you so much Karen, Leigha, and Brook!
Fantastic food and friendly staff in a lovely garden setting. The rotisserie chicken is so flavorful and moist. We shared a half chicken which was plenty of food for two and the sides were equally wonderful. We had the cauliflower and coleslaw that were both incredible and made with farm to table ingredients. We also enjoyed the soup which was perfect on a chilly December night. We paired with some local Ojai wines which made it even more enjoyable and finished we the most amazing backlava. Chef Fernando chatted with us for a while and we just enjoyed the perfect meal and evening.
If you don’t bring your business here it would be one of the biggest mistakes of your life. 15/10. Chef (Fern) speaks four and a half languages and we couldn’t contain our laughter when he brought his delightful banter to our table. We were celebrating a birthday and once Fern found out he immediately waltzed away and brought back a large plate full of delectable brownies. Additionally, the food was top tier and seed oil free!! Will be coming back even if I move away from California trust me, it’s worth it.
Great outdoor area with various seating, lights. You have to stay in a line to order something, and if you want to have both food and alcohol- it would be two lines! The food is good, they have variety of roasted chicken. I’ve got Chicken Sandwich which turned out to be a wrap. Cold green tea was a bit tasteless, would not recommend it.
I got to talk about this place cuz it was delicious although you will pay $18 bucks for a quarter Chicken and two sides an awesome garlic dipping sauce some pickled purple things I'm not sure and some amazing bread. This was delicious outdoors was wonderful. Will definitely return including a photo.
I've been here numerous times over its years and Ojai Rotie is superb - one of my favorite places in Ojai for dining with and recommending to groups. It feels very European and with an understated casual yet sophisticated picnic feel - rustic charm tables and food served on worn enamel and blocks of wood. dippity dips - fantastic. bread with butter - NEED to get it, they whip the butter perfectly and the bread is so soft it melts in your mouth half chicken - we got a meal this time with potatoes and the carrot salad. the potatoes used to be transcendently flavorful but i have to say the past couple times we've gone they've become a little blander and less exciting. carrot salad was well-flavored and refreshing. lamb skewers - THE BEST! Soft, seasoned so well, the harissa and cream additions make it this explosion of flavor it's magic overall, such a special place for dinner with people you love. Rotie best for getting a few things and sharing them all together, and everything on the menu works perfectly together - you get a chicken and use the dippity dips or the flatbread it comes with to make little sandwiches out of harissa and hummus and chicken - 11/10 experience. Also very sweet staff :)
Came here with my sister for a quick day trip to ojai and saw this place had some good reviews. I’m honestly shocked this restaurant doesn’t have at least 4.8 stars, it’s that good. We split the whole chicken which comes with two sides, pita, and a whisper of garlic spread. Only complaint would be: come on guys, give us more garlic dip! The chicken was perfectly cooked and so flavorful. The sides were incredibly fresh and paired so well. Definitely want to come back and try more of this Lebanese menu.
Leigha, Lorenzo and the entire Rotie staff helped make our wedding INCREDIBLE! It was our goal from day one for our guests to have one of the best meals of their lives and boy did Rotie deliver! It's been over a month and we're still getting texts and calls from people talking about how wonderful the appetizers and dinner were! We were told the bride and groom don't eat much but boy did we defy those odds! DELISH! Not only is the food incredible but the thought and care that this team puts into their work is unparalleled. We looked forward to every call, meeting and of course our incredible menu tasting! (See photos) Thank you so much Leigha, Chef Lorenzo and the entire Ojai Rotie team! We can't wait to come in for dinner to say hello soon! All our love and gratitude, Erin and Brian Clancy
I am thrilled to see a new type of restaurant in Ojai! This is exactly what Ojai needed. The food is excellent the dining area is fun and vibrant the wine bar has a fantastic selection. We enjoyed some wine and appetizers on the tables just outside the wine box (it’s the wine and beer). We ordered way more appetizers then we needed to because we didn’t realize that the platter came with bread and we knew we had to try the bread! We checked in a couple times to make sure they were not going to run out of chicken and we’re assured that if we ordered by eight it would be plenty. We ordered two full chickens, a salad and four large sides and had way too much food for five people. The sides that come with the chicken are very generous. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs but we want to make sure we were able to try a little bit of everything. I had read the reviews and had my list of dishes I wanted to try plus we overindulged on the bread because it was so delicious. The leftovers were just as delicious if not better than they were the night before. I wish Ojai Rotie the best of luck and look forward to returning soon!!
The fresh sourdough they make is amazing. We make a stop to get a few 1 & 2lb. loaves every time we are in the area. This time though the girl at the counter was super rude. There was a water spill in front of the counter and she told us to move like we were dumb. Then when she was putting towels down I tried to help wipe it up and she told me to just leave it. Previously all the staff were super nice.
Loved having Ojai Rotie cater our wedding! Leigh was so wonderful to work with and the food was incredible. Our guests kept raving about the food and the friendly service. Highly recommend!
We had Ojai Rotie cater our wedding and they were beyond exceptional! Leigha, the catering director, is the sweetest, most accommodating and responsive person and was so helpful during every step of the process. I have also never had so many people rave about the food as it was one of the biggest highlights of the entire night. I can't thank Leigha, Lorenzo and the entire Ojai Rotie team enough for going above and beyond with the food and service and contributing to our special day!
We spent 3 days in Ojai for a quick vacation from Oceanside. We arrived around lunch time, and Ojai Rotie was on our list of places to try after a bit of prior research. We shared a selection of small bites on the patio and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Definitely worth a try!
The chicken is so delicious and full of bold flavors! We also bought a bunch of sourdough loaves to take home and they were great! Really great outdoor atmosphere, and the dishes were all really great!
Rotie catered our Ojai wedding last month and were a total pleasure! The food and service was incredible and Leigha was a dream to work with over the past year. Our guests are still talking about the meal and we’ll be forever grateful to the team for all their hard work! Highly, highly recommend for any couples considering an Ojai wedding.
Fun casual place with very nice outside seating. Staff was super friendly. Food was some of best we had in a long time. Definitely a go out of our way to return. (order food at the counter, order drinks at a the hut – super efficient while still having friendly and proactive wait staff bring the food.) Uploading a pic of the chicken (juicy!. recco to make sure to get the potatoes as a side – maybe even as two sides if there are several of you!) Sadly forgot to take a photo of all until we nearly demolished it all.
Ojai Rotie is a perfect way to enjoy an Ojai evening outdoors. It was like having a picnic without the mess and hassle. The chicken is cooked perfectly, the salads are delicious and a crisp white wine balances the meal. PRO TIP- seat away from the road, the loud motorcycles disrupts a perfect meal.
Ojai Rotie’s rotie chicken was juicy and perfectly seasoned. The half portion was more than enough for one person — really filling. I was looking for something healthy and high in protein since I’m on a diet, and this grilled chicken was such a great choice. We also tried the white bean hummus, which was creamy, nutty, and had a slightly tangy flavor. It came with warm grilled Lebanese bread that paired perfectly. The atmosphere was cozy and rustic, and the Halloween decorations added a lovely orange-toned charm to the space. If you’re looking for something delicious and unique in Ojai, I’d definitely recommend this place.
I had this on my list for Ojai and I’m so happy I got to go. They did NOT miss. Chicken is very good and flavorful and the tabouli and cauliflower were great too. We did the half chicken for 2 people and It was more than enough. We also got the dips for snacks. The dips were amazing, I loved the use of white beans for the hummus and the eggplant dip was great. Everything was super fresh and It was an amazing meal that didn’t leave you feeling super heavy and lazy. I want to go back to try their kafta next time! Ambiance is very cute and outdoorsy as well
Really enjoyable meal here. I had the Habibi Lamb Burger on a sourdough bun. Lamb was perfrcty cooked but I felt the harissa overpowered the flavors a little. Coleslaw was amazing. My husband ordered the Tuna sandwich which looked really lovely. Would definitely go back foe the ambience alone. It's a special outdoor dining space. Well worth the visit.
Delish. Half off bottles of wine on Wednesdays (nice surprise for us)! All of the sides were divine. Chicken is usually my least favorite protein and this was SO DANG GOOD. 10/10 recommend. Can’t wait to come back.
Do you enjoy dining at restaurants with authentic flavors that transport you to another destination? This restaurant delivers delightful cuisine, a cozy ambiance, and outstanding service. Our unplanned visit exceeded expectations, and it will undoubtedly be added to my list of favored restaurants.❤️❤️❤️
We were absolutely happy that we chose this restaurant! Strongly recommend! food is delicious, beautiful serving. It was a great evening! Huge thanks to Lorenzo from two Ukrainians! Your warm welcome made a wonderful impression on us and created a feeling of a cozy home❤️
The quality of the food + the vibe + decoration are on point. ( The best!!! First time here in this place. We had other foods before at Ojai but this place will be our number one choice next time we visit Ojai again. We 2 people seated outside under the shade. The area looks so nice. We can’t order too much but I think we select the great dishes. So we ordered: sour dough bread Half chicken with 2 sides + lamb burger Next time we might we Half or whole chicken with Lamb skewered instead. (2 of the potatoes side that come with half chicken tastes better than caramelized cauliflower tho. I might get carrot or something else next time) We are so full and had a great time there.
Are we in Spain or Ojai?! I love the outdoor seating. From the nourishing, clean, simple meals to the ambiance of the garden patio, Ojai Rotie has it all! This is my wife’s and my go-to spot for an amazing whole chicken dish. The plate with two sides is an incredible deal—we split it all the time! We love the local wine selection, and the Dry Brooks Cider is a must-try. Don’t get me started on the sourdough… all around, 5 stars!!
Really delicious food. Rotisserie chicken is tender and exceptionally well. Spiced portions are substantial salads. Picnic sides are delicious. The garlic sauce dip is incredible. Outside seating area is gorgeous. It’s early spring here and the leaves are not yet on the trees, but the canopy provided by the large trees with the lights on wires and trellises it’s just magical. Service sizes are generous, and the prices are very very reasonable.
Food was delicious! Highly recommend their dips and sourdough bread for a delicious meal. Outdoor dining - amazing for a casual or fancy outing. Great to go in a bigger group to split all the menu options in a more buffet style.
Celebrating girlfriend‘s birthday- lots of shopping and finally arrived at this amazing little treehouse like setting at 3 PM. (their typical closing before getting ready for dinner starting at 4 PM) but one of the chefs said he would keep it open just for us two, so we ordered the Libby bowl, which is absolutely Tastey and healthy and fresh and they served it with a side of sourdough with garnish on it even more special.

got the tuna samich, the 3 platter taster thing, the hummus, and a lemonade and omg!!!!! I'd drive back right now. the potatoes! - delicious. the carrots & quinoa so good! the rice! 🫠 split the tuna sandwich and dipped in the hummus so so good! and that lemonade is a hella kick start in the heat. I didn't get the chicken but it looked soo good that I'd be down to go back just for that!

Was with the wife for a concert at the Ojai playhouse. So we stop here for lunch. It was a sunny beautiful day in Ojai. There was no waiting, we where at a table as soon as we walked up. We shared half a chicken, that was most and full of flavor. We also had white vean hummus, with grilled flatbread. Plus caramelized cauliflower. Plus we order walnut sourdough bread to take home. We loved the food and next time we would like to try dinner.
Rotie’s food is amazing! We had a party on Saturday night. We had a broad age group and it was loved by all. Leigha is so accommodating. To have such a successful restaurant and still put your client’s needs first is very special, no matter what you order you will be pleased. Our party was at our home.

Nice place, loved the ambiance. I ordered the chicken, potatoes and flat bread roti. The chicken was ok, moist and cooked right, not savory, it was bland. The side dishes were really good, the potatoes were so tasty with the flat bread and the cucumber pickles. I paired this with french syrah from Rhone valley, it was just right. I will try eggplant next time, will be back.
Ojai Rôtie’s picturesque patio couldn’t redeem a disappointing visit. The $19 “cheese toasty” was just plain toast with cheese—outrageously overpriced. While their rotisserie chicken and tabouli stand out, most dishes are absurdly expensive for the lackluster service and atmosphere. Tables were sticky, and staff merely swiped them with the same wet rag, leaving them unclean. Visit, but keep in mind these ‘buts.’
Food was really good, but the only thing is that we had to keep swatting flies away from our food due to outdoor seating. Service is order and pay up front to have them serve you after.
Casual, with sports TV available in the bar. Unfortunately, wheelchair accessible was not clearly marked. We tried the small steps, and hubby took a spill. These inconveniences really ruin an experience. Leaves my guy feeling embarrassed, sometimes hurt, and makes it hard to enjoy the spot. Not a big deal until YOU have to deal!
Solid chicken, but choose your sides wisely. Ojai Roti can get crowded on weekends, so come early or reserve a spot. I ordered at the counter, and their signature dish is the chicken meal (available in quarter, half, or full portions). The half chicken meal is a great deal at $24, including two sides — a solid portion for one person. The sides themselves feel a bit overpriced unless you go for the picnic sampler, which gets you three sides for the price of two. The carrot & quinoa and potato salad were pretty good, but the tabbouleh was a letdown—basically just parsley with barely any bulgur. I’ve had way better before. If you’re here for the chicken, you’ll be happy—but if you’re here for the sides, bring a fat wallet or lowered expectations.
Overall this place is fantastic but I have to deduct a star for one reason: the a la carte sides are very overpriced relative to how much food you get. They either need to lower the price of the sides or give you more because in its current state you get way too little for the price. $12 for a handful of potatoes is ridiculous. Other than that the food here is excellent, fresh, delicious and high quality. Highly recommend this place but get the meals and avoid ordering the sides until they fix this. If they fix this, will update review to 5 stars.
Outdoor, airy, gentle, soft life atmosphere. All outdoor patio with some patio umbrellas. Kind staff. Very feminine vibe, with singer-songwriter music humming in the air. You order your food and they bring it too you. You can buy wine/beer in a separate mini-bungalow space. The food presentation is absolutely beautiful. And the food itself is good: The one exceptionally tasty item we tried was the lamb Kafka. The 3 meatballs on sticks were so full of flavor! They are a must order for meat eaters here. The other exceptional item was the side of pommes frites - roasted herbaceous cubed potatoes drizzled with a creamy sauce. The other items we had were good and filling. Not exceptional. Avocado toast is huge with lots of avocado and other veggies. It's visually impressive. But not as flavorful as it looks. Roti chicken: the skin is very tasty. I ordered the quarter chicken and expected it to be leg and thigh. But it was wing and breast. To my surprise the breast was juicy! But if you prefer dark meat I guess you have to tell them that. With the chicken you can get 2 sides. Potatoes (mentioned above), and tabbouleh salad, which was my one slight disappointment. It was made fresh that day - which, I find, makes it less flavorful and harder to chew the parsley than when the salad is allowed to marinate in the dressing overnight. Overall a very enjoyable experience. The ambiance, super laid back summer/fall vibe and food make it worth the stop.
A little gem in downtown Ojai. A place with a very lovely outdoor seating area, which is visibly maintained with pride. The tables had fresh flowers on them, the area shaded by a large tree, and I imagine the bistro lights give off a whimsical feel in the evening. This place has fresh sourdough loaves daily. Their staff is attentive, professional and kind. The food here was good, given it tasted fresh. I removed one star because, for my taste, the avocado tartine was overpowered by garlic to the point I couldn't taste much of the other ingredients. My husband also found parts of his dish extremely spicy (and we are used to and like spicy foods, but we tend to not enjoy when it overpowers other flavors). If back in Ojai, I will return to Ojai Rotie and try out other dishes or request that they put that garlic/horseradish chutney on the side, so I can control how much to add to my bites of food! I do highly recommend this place.
Ojai Roti is extremely satisfying but not amazing. The atmosphere is fun and the service is solid but the food delivery is slow. The garlic spread alone is reason enough to go (if you like garlic). The bread is amazing as are the potatoes and the watermelon cooler. The rotisserie chicken was dry but good. The cookies were overdone. All said, this place is worth a stop.

If rating just chicken meals, I’d give 5 stars. Chicken and sides were great. Love the potatoes. Everything else we’ve gotten seems way overpriced for what it is. Strange pricing structure. Fatoush salad was $19 w no meat and very plain tasting. Land kabobs for $19 were closer to 3 meatball sized with some decent sauce, but not all that flavorful. I’ve had much more flavorful Lebanese. Drinks also quite expensive. The atmosphere and location is great and probably a big reason why it does so well.
Over hyped. Came excited, people seemingly raving about it, place looked nice but it s ultimately a restaurant and the food left me quite underwhelmed. Service at the counter not very friendly either. Felt like a white washed place, laking flavor, severely over-priced, for the girls to go take pics to post on social media. The good. Great location, very nice outdoor area, food and location looks instagramable if that s ur thing (which a lot of the crowd seemed all about). The garlic spread, potatoes, and bread are very good. However, for the price not where they should be. The bread is simply too expensive for me. But i took some home and was great for bruschetas. The potatoes, were you to get the side by it s own, are $12 or $17 (any side), that s absolutely insane. The not so good. The chicken was a little dry and other than the skin very bland. Y all need to brine it. The carrots were mid. Lebne strongly dissappointing. Butter had no taste. Prices are just too high. I wanted to try the burger but man, $22 for a burger with no fries. Chill... Skipped desert. Want truly good bread and butter (or excellent food from appetizer to dessert) take a trip to Coquette or Maypop in nola.
The roast chicken and sourdough were great, but the plates had peeling or chipped coating. Damaged tableware is not hygienic, can trap bacteria, and may leach unwanted substances especially risky for elderly people and young children. This condition does not meet FDA food contact standards or California health regulations. I hope the restaurant replaces these plates soon so customers can enjoy the good food with proper safety.
The honest take, if we’re reviewing this spot on what it’s supposed to be: a rotisserie chicken joint, it’s solid at best. Let’s start with the chicken, they’ve got a classic multi decker (either three or four at least) in the center of their kitchen, as it should be although you can’t see it straight on and the chickens come out in a heavy orange marinade, presumably with some heavy turmeric. When served the chicken looks perfect, with a nice crisp across the skin. When you go for the first bite however you will be missing some juice, despite being completely cooked and not exactly dry, it’s just not a juicy chicken as you may expect when looking at it. Now on to the sides, their choice of bread was excellent, classic pita or Arabic bread lightly toasted and brushed with olive oil and za’atar, this was such a nice touch to all the dips and the chicken itself. Their hummus was pretty good, slightly heavier on the tahini but I quite liked it. Dips like hummus, Muhamara, and baba ghanoush (roasted eggplant) are all plated as “dippity dips” which is a great name and the they were all good, eggplant could have been sliced smaller to make for a creamier dip and the muhamara was sweeter to my liking but it was still very good, you can never have too much dibbis (pomegranate molasses)! Unfortunately the toum (garlic dip) was more oily than creamy which makes it very heavy on the garlic and that certainly could be improved. Now everything else was more than you could imagine from a Lebanese joint here in idilic Ojai.

I live in Ojai and Roti has been a favorite of mine of years, so it pains me to write this review. I went for dinner on Saturday and had my first negative experience here. First, there was a long line on the sidewalk to get in and the hostess said she wasn’t going to seat people for another 15 minutes, despite half of the tables being empty, which seemed strange. Why not let people sit and get drinks while they wait? When she finally started letting people in 30 minutes later, she explained that there was a 45-minute wait for whole rotisserie chickens, but everything else was available. Totally fine. When we got to the counter, I tried to order the benny sandwich, but the staff member said they were also out of all sandwiches with chicken. Again, that on its own would not have been an issue—I get it, it was a busy Saturday night. But it only got worse from there. My wife order the avgolemono soup and when they brought it to our table, it was only broth. Pure broth. No chicken, no rice, no egg. We paid $19 for a bowl of broth. No one had mentioned this choice was also off the menu that night. We’ve never complained at a restaurant before, but this seemed absurd, so we flagged down a staff member, who first came to inspect the soup and then said, “That’s strange, they must have been scraping the bottom of the barrel.” The staff member never offered to comp the meal, even though it was a far cry from what was listed on the menu. But she did offer to bring some feta to I guess sprinkle on the broth? When we weren’t excited about that, she offered a plate of humus or some avocado. She delivered these and said, “You guys made out,” which feels more like gaslighting than anything. I can understand when a popular restaurant runs out of ingredients. But it was the staff’s reaction that was really disappointing. Lesson learned: If there’s a line in front, go someplace else. Better yet, avoid Ojai Roti altogether on the weekends.
The majority of the staff at this location have awful customer service and interaction. Their food is way too over-priced in relationship to the portion sizes offered. Another over-rated place with a bunch of kids as their employees, who need a major attitude adjustment. Their service style and bad manners were very, very off-putting right from the start. Not a good vibe at all and probably the major deciding factor for not ever wanting to return to their restaurant ever again and pay good money for their ridiculously over-priced and tiny portioned food items. **Thank you for taking the time to reply to my review, Lorenzo. I would consider returning if the staff has better customer care/interaction and if the food portions are more appropriately/fairly priced. Thanks.
Of all the restaurants in Ojai, we chose this one because it had good reviews. I was hoping to do the same since it has a beautiful and unique ambiance. We ordered the rotisserie chicken which was super flavorful and yummy. However, we were grossed out as we ate the food. The reasons I gave the restaurant a low rating due to unfriendly staff and lack of cleanliness. We were excited about our lunch until we saw a rack with full of prepared trays of veggies (potatoes and cauliflowers) placed next to the toilet. The working area appeared to be tight which I can understand why it was placed there. However, the workers should at least cover the trays with something to prevent flies from landing on the food which we witnessed. Frankly, I am not sure if they would pass the food inspection based on what we saw. I want to support local small businesses such as this, but not sure if I would take risks eating here again. After all, we still have the health pandemic. I hope the owner will take this as a genuine feedback rather than criticism and remedy the situation. Best wishes!
I’m so bummed to have to leave this review because I love the food at Ojai Rotie, but when I went last night (12/3 around 6 pm) I was so turned off by how rude the cashier was (blonde, 20s something year old woman) that I won’t ever go to Ojai Rotie again.
Food was mediocre, and the cashier (blonde girl) was RUDE, to the point I actually thought it had to do with my race. The atmosphere was cute but if you’re a minority maybe look elsewhere
1 hour later, where is the food? Lorenzo (owner) we waited for 25 minutes to be seated, hostess never came to see us until, we reminded her about us. We guessed and asked people around the way to place an order; finally order our food, waited for 90 minutes in total, food never arrived, what you see in this picture is what we asked to be served due to the delay with our order. After 60 minutes; We asked for other options instead, she said It was not possible, we cancel our order and left the business hungry and disappointed.
Very disappointed with food and ambience. From the minute I was seated due to very uncomfortable table/chairs.. the uneven floor making the table tilted. I was expecting the chicken to be cleaned before cooked; the rotisserie chicken came with feathers, and that cut my appetite.
