We came here thinking it was a different restaurant (!! don't ask!) but what a nice surprise - the food was terrific! The vegetables especially were delicious, the mushu pork was very good (with larger pieces of pork than you usually get), and the lemon chicken was very good, too, although prepared as small pieces deep-fried rather than sliced breaded chicken breast, as you often see. There's a pleasant seating area, although they're focused on take-out rather than dine-in (the food was served in take-out containers with plastic cutlery BUT the disposable chopsticks were nice quality) - if I go back with friends, I'll come prepared for a "picnic" and have my own melamine plates and real forks & knives!

Can't believe this place! Absolutely fabulous, if you are ever in Poway on the corner of Community and Poway Rd. In the Vons parking lot go to City Dragon Chinese food its the BEST food you'll ever eat. The husband and wife team make the most authentic Chinese food in San Diego. Every dish is cooked fresh to order.. everything is seasoned just right and the portions they give will feed you twice. Look for it and you won't regret it. Awesome! Outstanding! Fabulous! Are not enough to describe this place.... BEST EVER!

Wow. Just wow. So, to be fairly honest, I only stopped here because it was close and I was extremely hungry. So I stopped in thinking I'd grab some orange chicken and leave. But, when I walked in the door, it just felt so nice and cozy that I figured, what the heck, I'll eat here. To be fair, I was a little put off by the prices, but it was well worth it. The wife brought the food to my table, with Sriracha for the soup and soy sauce for the rice, and everything was prepared to perfection. The sauce on the chicken was perfect, the chicken had a great crunch and was nice and juicy on the inside, the rice was steamed to a beautiful fluffy texture, and the soup paired perfectly with the egg roll and wonton. Couldn't be happier, and will definitely be coming here again

The food was great and the family who runs the place was amazing! The wife played with my one year old son so I could eat my food while it was hot. First hot meal in a week! If you haven’t tried it, you should! We will be back...

City Dragon is truly a Poway institution and an exemplary family run business. It is my Favorite Chinese Restaurant in the entire SoCal Region (south from Beverly Hills). Other Reviewers have commented about their kids who grew-up in Poway, and their later move to this new location. All that I can add is that their Mushrooms and Beef is wonderful. The veggies are surprisingly diverse and almost always perfectly cooked even as Takeout; and there’s plenty of beef. BTW if you like hot mustard, you must request it. Don’t forget to grab Almond Cookies for desert. (Please click 👍🏼. Thank you. )

Love this place. Been coming here for years. It is the same family that has owned and ran this place for 20+ years. All the kids are grown up now and have gone on and done other things but the food remains amazing. I still come here for the orange chicken and the chow mien! I have had almost everything on the menu. Love it all.

My partner and I stopped in for a change-up in our usual picks. All in all, it was a very pleasant experience. The restaurant setting is quaint and familiar feeling. The service was fantastic with both the chef and server being very nice and considerate. The menu is full of different options to try. We ordered the spring rolls and two tofu dishes. All of it was good and freshly cooked. Remember to give the food a minute to cool down before you dive in. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is from not being wowed, but it's not a bad thing. It's a staple food spot with standard food taste and quality. You won't be upset stopping by, but you maybe wouldn't go out of your way ro try it again if you weren't in the area.

Food is okay. But they definitely need to reconsider their take out packaging. All I ordered was beef broccoli and it tipped over in the car. The napkin was soaked in juice. Will not be returning. I wish I could get a refund and just go to Panda Express. It would cost less and I would get more food. Very disappointing $18 wasted

This was my first and last time at this restaurant. I ordered a broccoli beef , sweet and sour chicken, chicken lo mein and a beef fried rice and was beyond disappointed with the taste of everything. The beef didn't resemble any.beef I've eaten before and the taste was awful. I've never thrown away $70 worth of food before until now even though money is tight :( I let them know I wanted to bring food back and he said I don't care been open for 30 years no refunds. I've worked in kitchens and cooked all types of meat but never seen something of this low of quality before being sold in a restaurant then they want 17.99 per beef dish. At least order some chuck roast to replace whatever this is, my 70 year old mother tasted it and said it's not beef

I ordered chicken egg foo young. Definitely not anything like I’ve ever had before. Not good taste. The dumplings were hard on the outside, but tasted ok on the inside. Won’t be back. Not sure how they stay in business. Dinner time and only two carry out orders.

This food is positively disgusting, and inedible. I called the restaurant and asked for a refund before I posted this. The guy was rude, and told me to go ahead with the review, so here I am. The orange chicken was cooked in rancid oil, it is oil soaked, and tastes like a dirty frying pan. The rice is burned beyond belief, and is also inedible. The egg roll tastes like a rotten raisin. The wontons are not even recognizeable. I was able to choke down a couple bites of the rice and chicken before I called them. This plate is going in the trash.

The owners seem nice however I felt compelled to write. This was not tasty, and the only way I can describe it was that it actually tasted like a barn. We bought a few items for about $40, and none were fresh. It was also very greasy. I will not be going back and cannot recommend.
