Friendly, courteous service. I had a lovely customer experience! The food was delicious!
Cozy, service was good, drinks were strong. Previously had brunch, catfish, & spinach was delicious.
Food was great! (Brunch) Going back to try their dinner very soon!
I have known the baker of this place since high school and she tailor makes my red velvet cake to deluxe perfection
The service and food was amazing. The banana pudding was my favorite.
Excellent food especially if your from the south and you feel home sick and you want to get some good home cooking to remind you of home.
Very friendly atmosphere and food was great try the catfish , oh yea Mac and cheese great also
This place has the most delicious soul food ever. You can take out or dine in. If your in the neighborhood and need a bite - must go here.
I ordered from the catering menu and everything came out amazing. Not only was the food great but the customer service was also top notch. Highly recommend.
It’s a nice cozy atmosphere. The service is great. The food and drinks are excellent!! I wish there was more stars to give on this place. I have no complaints at all.
We had our Daughters Graduation brunch there..I love the intimacy it was 6 of us and food was fresh off grill and the mamosa was great will be back there on Feb 4 for my Birthday bruch....5 stars all the way from great food/service...
Always a welcoming and friendly place with appetizing, delicious and soul-satisfying food. Don't miss out on this jewel in Valley Stream! Use their take-out service and take home your next meal.
Ordered take out. Everything was satisfying but i wouldnt say i loooved it. I will still try their brunch one weekend bc the place is cute and chic and the employees were very nice and welcoming.
I love coming here and ordering some amazing soul food. Great service and great food. I'm picky and they truly make amazing soul food. Definitely recommend
Food is fabulous. I absolutely love the brunch menu. Can't wait to order again.
I went there December 14, the food was excellent, and the atmosphere was very comfortable. I enjoyed the music I grew up listening to from the 70s.
For a SOULFUL atmosphere when you eat, this is the place you want to go to & share with a friend or two. "Hot buttered...✌🏾❤️🖤💚
I frequent this place for brunch quite often... love the atmosphere.. service is always on point and I love the Sunday Brunch Menu... food is always hot and good!
Cosy atmosphere. The food was great and the staff was super professional yet warm and friendly. I would definitely go back
Beautiful decor, great music, friendly service. Food is always on point and when I come back to queens I have to visit this black owned family restaurant!!! Upscale or laid back music in the background sports on the TV. Nice atmosphere definitely would like to see some live music in this spot!
I’ve dined here quite a few times over the years. My sister even threw me a surprise birthday brunch at Pretty Toni’s one year. The food and service never disappoint! Even during the pandemic, when we were all restricted to take out & delivery options, Pretty Toni’s didn’t skimp on the taste, serving sizes or customer service. My teenage son is a huge fan as well! I’ll definitely keep coming back.
Very nice soul restaurant a few blocks from the city line, nestled in Valley Stream. This soul restaurant cafe has amazing food. The menu has a good variety. My only complaint is the sides offering is limited to just collards. Where is Kale, green beans or something. The corn bread offered on table is amazing. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
Most restaurants that call themselves soul food really aren't soul food restaurants at all. Pretty Toni's Cafe is truly southern food. The food is great, the atmosphere is nice and quaint and the service is excellent. Every time I feel for some down home cooking this is the place I will always come to.
Love this place! The owner Toni and her husband are so sweet. The food is perfectly seasoned and prepared and the ambiance is fitting for all. The snapper is amazing and the brunch menu is superb. You must experience Pretty Toni's at least once. I am sure it won't be your last. Bon appetite.
The service and food were great! Food was hot and freshly cooked. My husband and I had our first date at "Pretty Toni's Cafe nine years ago. We decided to celebrate our first Anniversary by returning to where it all began.
This establishment is quaint and a cool place to relax have a drink and order your favorite soul food recipe. Their specialty is chicken and waffles, with a special red velvet waffle and 1/2 fried chicken. Their sides are delicious. I ordered the teriyaki chicken and two sides. The mac and cheese was hot, delicious and flavorful. I left wanting more.
Damn! I find this just before moving? Great wings cozy atmosphere. I could eat the yams all day. Toni and Gary are the best. The only thing lacking is my hungry butt in a chair and my favorite beer selections. Don't not go! You have only yourself to blame.
We have gone several times . . . The meals are delicious. The desserts are scrumptious too! The service is excellent! I have brought many and they enjoyed the food and atmosphere!
OMG! Was so good i went back The next day. That barbecue salmon tast like it just came off the grill. Vegetarian collards and yams Great! Cole slaw and that Banana pudding is off the hook. I will be going back to try more dishes♥️♥️
Just left. Heading out of town and trying to connect with family. It''s a small spot, so we felt a little bad hogging space for 7 for sevetal hours, but every bite of food said we were in the right place. Scrumptious fried chicken, fish cooked just right, creamy melt-in-your-mouth grits, velvety plantains, yummy red velvet waffles and desserts that have your eyes rolling, they were so good. We'll be back!
We had such a pleasant experience in this cozy restaurant. I had waffles and catfish with ginger iced tea. The food was delicious. I especially enjoyed the cornbread it was a unique flavor. Our server was so nice and accommodating. If you’re ever in the neighborhood support this black owned business. They feed you and treat you good 😊
The place is nice and homely. We got there when it opened and we were seated immediately on a rainy Saturday. As soon as we were seated I felt like I was in my own house. Food took time to come out we were a party of six. Allowed us good time for conversation. Cornbread came out first. Food and service was on point. I don't eat seafood out but tried the Fried whiting that came with grits, home fries, and eggs. All healthy size portions. Lemonades we're off the hook, homemade I think. Didn't have any of the cocktails. I'll try them out next time. The place is nice and clean TVs are all around. Gary our server was very friendly. Overall good experience.
Had dinner with my coworker here & we both agreed that the food was amazing & authentic, service was fast & easy. The atmosphere was fun & lighthearted. Just looking at the names of the drinks & having family feud play in the background as we ate was enough for me to fall in love with the atmosphere. The lovely gentleman who served us was very receptive, friendly & efficient in service. It felt so homey, like eating at home with loved ones or attending dinner at your favorite auntie’s house. Would definitely recommend as a nice, easygoing, calm environment for anyone to dine in.
Pretti Toni‘s Cafe does not disappoint. Good place for all occasions. Classy and great role models in the community. Chicken and red velvet waffles has always been my famalies favorite. Definitely support.
I've seen this restaurant around for years and I'm so happy I got the chance to finally come here. The guy who seated us was very nice. We ordered the shrimp lobster grits and catfish strips..... OMG not a single disappointment! The cocktails were delicious! The music was on point as well! Definitely coming back! Sorry I don't have photos I was too busy eating lmao.
Good was delicious, the owner is very nice, the drink was great also. I used to have my grandmother's birthday parties here but I came for brunch today expecting to bring some leftovers for Tomorrow but I finished my food it was so good
Well i'll be! A hidden gem i just found. I guess it's true that you gotta dig for delicious food places these days because they are few and far between. Had a wonderful lunch here and the young man who waited on us was really sweet. I love that the fish and shrimp were not only yummy, but not greasy and soggy. Delicious! I must also say that the banana pudding was by far some of the best i've ever had. Small little place with big fantastic taste. Picture going down South to visit family and once you get there, big momma sits you down and makes you a plate after a long trip 😀, that's this place. Like being with family and friends. Totally recommend and enjoyed. 😀. Holla!
This place is a hidden gem! We were quickly welcomed in and seated by Gary, who was super friendly. The ambiance is simple, quaint, and cute. Every single thing we had was delicious - whiting, mac & cheese bites, chicken & sweet potato waffle, and catfish & grits breakfast platter. The grits were some of the creamiest I've ever had, and the fish and chicken were fried to perfection and not greasy at all. The pineapple mimosa and coquito were so good, too. Looking forward to returning and bringing friends!
Very nice chill environment to enjoy brunch, soul food style. I had the red velvet chicken and waffles and loved it. The chicken is a little salty but that's tradition! Waffles are a very sweet and they balance off the chicken well with the right drink. I would try again!
The food was delicious, and freshly cooked and hot on my plate. I was a little hunggry upon my arrival so the cornbread and water was right on time. Pleasant atmosphere, wonderful music and immense service was much appreciated. Thank you Craig. I had the red velvet waffle with chicken topped with snoop dogs Chardonnay. It was as truly a wonderful brunch with Pretty Toni’s cafe., and the price was right. Not sure when I will go back but I surely will go back.
This was my 1st time dining here. This place is small, but it's so cute, cozy, & quaint! I love the fact that it's a small restaurant. Sometimes, you just want that 'at home' feel, and you will definitely get that here. Everything was awesome! From the atmosphere, to the music, to the food, (that cornbread!!) and to Gary. Gary was very warm and attentive and greeted everyone with a smile. Kudos to Pretty Toni's Cafe!! You have my stamp of approval, and I will definitely be back!
The service and food were amazing. The ambiance was comfortable and relaxing. The food was very fresh and delicious! The kale cesar salad was awesome and plentiful! The whole evening was very intimate and felt like a visit to a favorite aunties house for dinner. Fresh flowers and good music topped it off! The drinks were also very good!
Quaint. Lovely small atmosphere, feels family oriented. They have a take out side and a dine in side. Dining area is small but so beautiful on a Saturday that I recommend you come early. It is black owned, and they offer Black & Brown owned spirits only so you are supporting BLACK & BROWN people fully. I recommend the Black Girl Magic Mimosa! It’s DELICIOUS. Also, I did get the Snoop Dog Hard Chardonnay and a D’usse Side Car, I ENCOURAGE you to treat yourself. I ordered the lobster & shrimp grits with a side of their house potatoes ( IT WAS FYEEEE) and I enjoyed everything except for the free cornbread bites (which did not take away from the rating, I just don’t like moist cornbread). They are open Wednesday-Sunday during brunch hours of 4-8:30 Wed-Fri, and 12-8:30 on Saturday and 12-6 on Sunday. The only thing I did not enjoy was the service. I think they could use some extra help in that department, everyone might not be so accepting to one waiter, HOWEVER, I enjoyed the fella who was there, he was kind and he took charge so I definitely recommend a raise for him. Overall, I enjoyed the drinks and the food, I wrote this before I ate and drank because I knew it would be great! 5 stars for the atmosphere, the location, the drinks, the food, and the customer service.
As a new resident to the neighborhood, i would walk pass this restuarant everyday. This particular evening my sister I smelt a delicious aroma that drew us in and we knew it was time to check it out. As we entered we were greeted by a gentleman who was very friendly. There were so many great things on the menu it was hard to choose. I did a take out and I must say the food was amazing. I have found my new favorite spot and will definitely be a regular.
The food was good, I'm looking forward to more and next time I'll be sure to take pictures. It was that good I forgot.
My first visit food was okay drinks were okay. The host Gary was very nice and helpful. May visit again.
Chicken and waffles are to die for... Pretty Toni's is a must visit. Service is as comfortable as the food.
Catfish po-boy was delicious, fries too. Red velvet Waffle was tasty and chicken was a little greasy, but good.
Love this spot...small location...food always good...decent folks work there..great for dates or brunch..I wouldn't recommend large groups place is small
Always get to pass this resto everytime I go to work and I was kinda curious since when I googled the place the reviews was high and behold I was amazed the food was delicious and the place is nice and clean.
Food and delicious and the service was amazing. It's pricey, so don't expect a cheap bite to eat.
The food is actually pretty good, I ate here today 9/13/17 (fried catfish, sweet potato fries and collard greens) catfish and fries were amazing, the collard greens were pretty salty. That's the only seasoning I tasted on it. The staff is so sweet, but yes it is definitely over priced I'm my opinion. But it was worth it to me.
Now I don't usually eat plantains but theirs was good. I tried their collards and yams as well along with their Cajun fries. All of these sides either met my expectations or exceeded it. Unfortunately they were all out of mac and cheese when I went but I'm assuming that's a sign that it tastes good.
Great ambience and customer service. It's small and intimated. Would be a great spot for a shower or birthday celebration. I really enjoyed the Fried Whiting appetizer and New England Clam Chowder. I will definitely return.
Cozy little place. Staff is friendly. Personally the portions were ok and the food was fine. I heard they are well know for their chicken and waffles. We didn't have any of those. Was not too impressed with the seafood. Avg. Still looking forward to trying other thi ga on the menu
We were a party of 4 there about 5pm on a Sat afternoon. There is parking in the back and the restaurant is cozy. We had to wait about 10 mins to be seated even though there was just one other grp of 4 in the resturant. Our waiter was so friendly, there are $5 happy hr drinks all day and our food arrived hot!. I'm not Southern and never considered chicken and waffles as foods that go together, BUT my plate had nothing but bones left by the time I was done.
I enjoyed the coziness and atmosphere of the restaurant. The waitress was attentive and polite. However, the food wasn't really anything to write home about. I had the chicken and waffles and for me it tasted bland. Though the flavor of the food was lacking (a bit pricey, too), everything and everyone else was great.
This is a nice place for brunch with family or friends. Drinks are good, food is delicious. My only complaint is the time it takes for the food to come out; it takes a bit of time. But the service is great, very friendly.
Food was good & the drinks also if your looking for a great Black owner Restaurant in the Neighborhood here it is. Their standards have not changed in the atleat 15 years I have been patronizing them. New York city style and experience with out the hassle of parking & train rides. Love this place
Small place but nice soul food. A cozy atmosphere and kind staff. Slightly pricey
There very friendly good service food was ok but they need ac if they expect to want to dine in
Mac and cheese need work..... Greens are frozen ..... Yams need to be more sweet Potato salad wasn’t tasty They don’t offer tastings on food ... Food needs work
She`s a great baker, but her soul food is questionable! NOT a great drink selection.
The food was fairly tasty. I was surprised cuz I did hear good things about it but when I tried them. Let's just say I haven't been back. the service was a bit slow.
The service is excellent! Beautiful place. What I had wasn't so good but the dessert was. I'll probably be back though.
It's a cozy spot. The food was alright. I had the Fish w/ scrambled eggs, and home fries. The homesfries were crunchy which was different and no I didn't have tater tots. They were home fries but they were deep fried. And they offered spinach cornbread which was different. I was looking more for the toast to come with my meal, but it didn't and wasn't offered. My friend had an omelet and that didn't come with toast either. My other friend had the chicken cutlet sandwich. I guess it was alright as we finished our food, but no one raved over coming back, so I guess it was a one shot deal.
A little diner that's easily missed amongst the bigger establishments in the area. The service was average at best, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The atmosphere, at least when I went, was a little bland and the workers did little to liven things up. The food however was good, with a good serving size for the affordable price. If you're in the area looking for a delicious, affordable meal and just want some quiet while you eat, this would be a very good option.
I was really excited to try this place with my sister for the longest time. I hear the spot was black owned and was looking forward to support. Service by Gary owners husbands was great, very personable. It was a rainy day so we were the only ppl in the small cafe, food did take a lil while but seeing that it was done to order that was fine. The spinach cornbread was amazing and i order the Whiting strips as a starter which was on point. My ginger lemonade was also awesome but that was basically the highlight of our trip. I ordered the boneless chicken drizzled with sweet chili for an extra $2 with a side order of yams and mac and cheese. The food looked good but the taste was another thing. Mac n cheese was just okay. The chicken was super dry and yams...... i couldn't understand how you could mess up yams. My sister ordered the chicken and waffles and i felt like her waffles were soft but she did say the half chicken was very tender and juicy. Overall i can say that it was really overpriced regardless of taste, but because it didn't meet my standard on a empty non busy day, not sure what you're gonna get on a busy and crowded afternoon.
I really tried to give this place a fair shot.. i went for brunch a few months ago.. the food was really not good.. so i figure i go for dinner a few months later.. dinner was just as terrible.. candied yams are def not from scratch and taste like they came out a huge can .. Mac and cheese noodles was mushy, vegan collard greens ? Smh .. not to mention thier smothered chicken is just really bland with that blonde gravy.. Really nice people but until they get thier food quality up to par, i can’t come back here .. (don’t forget the auto gratuity for the final slap on the face)
My party was not happy with their portion sizes, the monsterous amount of bread compared to the skimpy fish isn't right. Leaving hangry from a restaurant is not a good look.
The food was good, but I asked for a half chicken, all dark meat and was told by the owner they couldn't give it to me with all dark, I had to take the white meat. Whatever happened to the customer is always right? Even at Burger King you get it your way. Guess not here. This would be a 4 star review, but for that so the experience wasn't bad. I just expect to get what I want when I'm paying.
I was highly disappointed after reading all the good reviews. Went with my daughter this afternoon. First one’s in and it still took over 30 min to get our order. The shrimp and grits were horrible tasted fishy from the lobster and shrimp. My daughters French toast sticks by the time she got to the 3rd one was hard as a rock and u edible. The scrambled eggs were horrible. Then we got the bill and they charged me $3.75 for my daughters Apple juice that said $1.75 on kids menu. He said you didn’t say kids Apple juice. Well if she’s ordering from kids menu what do you think. So when I asked him to take it off he copped major attitude. Then the gratuity is included which is 18% which I didn’t feel the service was worth. Will not be returning.
I am a really big soul food lover. I take soul food very seriously. It's 1 of my most favorite foods to eat. But I have to feel the country south in those yams and Mac and cheese, and I really did not. The Mac and cheese was ok but the yams not so much. The catfish and the serving sizes were not great either. I was very disappointed!
The food here just isn’t good. The customer service is wonderful and perhaps the dine in experience for brunch is better. However, I ordered takeout and enjoyed nothing. I tried this place years ago, didn’t enjoy the food, but wanted to give it another chance and unfortunately I was still left disappointed.
Had chocolate cake and it was not home made it was store bought, I even asked was they dessert home made and the reply was all of our dessert are home made.
Friendly atmosphere but the food was horrible and burnt. The prices are high and the food was tasteless. Won't go there again
Waited an hour just to order When I finally was able I received my food it was horrible. No taste waffles were doughy in the middle 😞 Catfish was salty Wanted to support a black owned business but we make it so hard Customer service mediocre Food needs improvement Overall bad experience wouldn’t recommend
My review is years late (circa 2017) but every time I drive past this place bc yes I live local, I remember how horrible the food I ordered was. Down to the gross tap tasting water, like no thank you & never again.
😐 sorry I'm not sure why everyone was talking about this spot, the food is "ok!" I was disappointed that I paid like $20 for six little wings(8.95) mac&cheese($4+) and "vegetarian" collard greens(probably from the can) ($4+) I need to stop being lazy and cook but there are little to No "good" soul food spots in queens...so I thought I'd give this place a try🙄
Beautiful Restaurant, but the food is horrible and very overpriced. There's never any big crowds, and it's always empty.
Horrible , we stood there and was never seated, the waitress just pretended she didn't see us , we ended up leaving. Never again. You try to support black business and this is how they act. Never again.
Went here for valentine's day was very disappointed my fish smelled fishy when it came to the table. And as I proceeded to eat it, it was like rubber, my yams were cold. And I don't know what to say about the cabbage, which just wasn't right. My boyfriend had the chicken and he said even his macaroni. And cheese and his food was cold. Tony, I'm very disappointed because I had such a wonderful meal here One Mother's Day, what happened?
The place is very clean ( which may be because the place was completely empty on a Friday afternoon ). I also love that it’s black owned and that they support black owned wines and spirits. With that being said, the food is not tasty at all . My shrimp had a very foul smell and a funny after taste. My fingers with a foul smell evening after washing them . The rice was tasty ,but I’m 99% sure it was boxed Goya yellow rice. The menu is very overpriced for what you are getting .
The food is extremely overpriced. I would not have had a problem with the pricing if the food equaled the pricing. For the record it did not come close. The wings were extremely small, sweet potato fries half cooked, soul slaw had off taste and the fried chicken strips were salty. I really wanted to like this place and give them continually business but unfortunately I will not be able to give them anymore business.
Poor customer service, horrible tasting food. we were the only party of three in the entire space and the waitress forgot to put in our starter order of fried whiting. OK! We ordered two turkey burgers and waffle with bacon which took over 35 mins. How could they be a wait and it was just us in the place. Not to mention the turkey burgers was the patty you purchase at supermarket. Same for bread.... Then top it off, they added 18% gratuity mandatory on every check. I was just so disgusted with the way we were treated the entire time. Dear Black owned business we (black people) would like to support your businesses. However with beyond subpar service it’s going to be a no and I will continue to spread the word of how horrible of an experience my family and I had. Possible patrons you will received better food and service from your local fast food restaurant.
Beautiful restaurant but the food isn't good. The Mac and cheese is horrible, super dry and not flavorful. My chicken had a aftertaste that tasted like bleach. The prices are high. There's never any crowds or alot of people, it's always empty.
I was so excited to eat this place and I was so disappointed. The owner was so nasty and rude. My family & I called before we walked in so we parked our car & walked inside. The main entrance was locked so we walked through the side door and my 3 year old baby asked to use the potty so I kindly asked the owner if we could walk to the bathroom while they setup the table for us to dine and the owner said no because we couldn’t tell him how to run his business and that we had to wait before we sat down or to use the restroom. My baby was doing the peepee dance and I asked again because it seemed to be taking a while, unfortunately my baby peed on herself. I was so hurt and heartbroken, I felt like such a bad mom I honestly wanted to tell the owner off and give him a peace of my mind but I was with my 3 year old daughter & I didn’t know what would be this mans reaction towards me because he just seemed so mean & miserable. I tried to play it cool & express my displeasure with the owner & his wife about his actions and both there tones were nasty & he just told me to leave the restaurant and to have a nice day. His exact words were “NO ONE TELLS ME HOW TO RUN MY BUSINESS!” so my family and I just walked out hungry, disappointed and my baby was all wet not to mention that it was so cold & snowing outside. I will never return to this place again and so sad to say that my family and I drove 40 mins to eat at this place and this was our experience. I know that NYC isn’t the best place for hospitality but wow this was beyond anything I’ve ever experienced.
I went there today, the food was overpriced and horrible, the drinks was not worth the money, everything was horrible the steak was not done the way I wanted, I don't recommend anyone to go there. I suggest you take your business elsewhere. As a black person I cannot support this black business
