My son and I stumbled unknowingly in for dinner, discovered a packed house preparing for MG's monthly wine dinner. Who knew?? We managed to secure two places at the bar, and proceeded to have one of the finest wine dinners I have experienced in several decades of dining. The fixed price was $49, which, truly, is a steal. The crusted shrimp was great, as was the sirloin. And let's not forget the strawberry shortcake! 5 courses in all, four with wine. The wines were excellent, so good that I ordered 2 cases total of 3 of the wines, all of which were available at a discount price if ordered then. One could not have asked for more.
My husband and I went to Masona yesterday for the first time. It was our wedding anniversary. 1) Parking: As Masona has access to the commuter parking lot right across the street, parking couldn't have been more convenient -- and it's free. 2) Atmosphere: the restaurant is full of dark woods, little nooks and crannies that provide intimate dining environments. The music was kept at a good volume to allow conversation. On this evening, the music was primarily hits from the late 70s. Personally, I would have felt more romantic music would have been more suitable, but it wasn't unpleasant. 3) Food: I got the Paella which was plentiful and delicious, but my husband got the Scallops special which was to die for! We didn't have room for dessert, so of course we got some anyway. I got the Tres Leches. I don't think I've had it before so I have nothing to compare it to, but it was really delicious. My husband had the Apple Turnover which was also great. 4) Service: It was a light Tuesday night so business was pretty light. Nonetheless, our service was friendly, attentive and well timed. The owner came over to speak with us a few times. They comped us one of our desserts without us asking, when he found out it was our wedding anniversary. In summary, it was a lovely day and a lovely evening. Normally Masona is expensive for our budget, but the Groupon we used certainly made it comfortable for us and I would definitely do that again.
I feel like it's comfort food but not genetic style. The plates are good size and filling but combine the style of international comfort food and unique vegetables. A favorite place of mine. Staff is great. Highly recommend.
The food is consistently wonderful -- a particular favorite is the seafood paella -- and the atmosphere is always relaxed and friendly. Masona is one of my family's favorite restaurants -- a common choice for the family to eat out, and my parents stop by and grab an appetizer and a bottle of wine sometimes.
Fantastic experience with servce and food. I had the sirloin nd wife had scallops. I don't eat vegetables but even the vegetables were so good that i ate them as well.
Love the food, the local vibe and the good times. Manny the manager is great too. Can't recommend this place enough - truly a local gem.
Great food, great atmosphere, a bit pricey but always a good time
Great food.! The location is a little out of the way but worth it.
The mussels here are consistently amazing. Great food and great service.
As always, great dinner option. Doesn't fail
Always excellent food and service
Great food and service.
Cozy and really friendly service
Great food
Tasty and chic
Perfection.
This review is for their dinner service. We went because we had a Groupon, but I'm glad we did because the food was great! Food - We had 4 tapas (empanada, ceviche, fries, peppers) and one entree (scallops). Everything is a must try (if I had to skip one dish, it would be the ceviche - too sour). Service - Seemed like the bartender and owner were the only wait staff but service was smooth and attentive, so no complaints. Parking - No dedicated parking lot, but free street parking is available.
Great neighborhood spot. Reliably really good food.
Exelent Try the coffee steak and Tres leches after
First the food,we were all satisfied it was good but not great at some point we would go back. Second our waiter very nice but very good at ignoring us,two of us received our wine promptly but the third person waited over 15 minutes for his beer, who knew a bottle of beer could take so long to get to the table. Third acoustics terrible, music turned up to high ,very hard to carry on a conversation across the table and tables extremely close together.
After a failed first time using the Groupon (more on that below) I came back here with another friend and we had a different server who graciously accepted the voucher immediately without any of the weird exceptions as I've seen some other customers experienced in the previous reviews. The first time I dined here with my SO and I asked about the Groupon upfront and I was talking to a man with a hat. I am thinking he was probably the owner since he told me the restrictions of the Groupon "only valid 1 appetizer or tapas and 2 entrees", even though the voucher itself said $75 worth of food! So we didn't follow the terms exactly and the owner smirked realizing that he could now say that the voucher was invalid! Of course he did not bother to say anything to me about this until the very end where he promptly denied the use of this. The modern Peruvian style food was delicious (except for the disgusting truffle bisque) but the price point of the menu itself with the groupon is not worth it. We ordered: Grilled chicken livers, Fried oysters, Yucca fries, Salmon & Deviled Eggs, Steak dish, Tres Leches, Mushroom Truffle Bisque (It tasted way too thick and oddly savory/oily. Grossed me out.) The second time we had a much nicer server who accepted the groupon immediately and applied the value without giving the lecture and side eye about what we could and couldn't order. The experience was much more enjoyable and I wished that this had happened the first time. We ordered: Peruvian Sampler, Manny's paella, Scallop dish Not sure if I would come back here unless we had another voucher to offset the steep price. The ambiance itself in the main restaurant doesn't seem super fancy since they have a wall of huge TVs giving them a Sports Bar vibe.
The food was not worth the cost. It tasted good, but at that price I expected more. Service was fine, decor feels old. Overall it was an ok outing but don't see myself coming back unless the food improves or the prices drop.
I don't know what all the hype was about. I went with three others. Our dinners were all good. It not great. I need help understanding how eggplant with marinara is Peruvian.
Great meal, cozy, however the it can get a bit pricey for dinner for two
Not a good experience this evening. The owner/chef was rude and couldn't wait to get the money from us. The food was mostly delicious expect for the "fries in a box".
We have loved this restaurant, but ate there last night and used an expired Groupon (face value only) when paying. The owner came over and reprimanded us for not presenting it before our meal. We apologized, explaining that due to it being expired, we didn't realize it was an issue. He went on to berate us, complaining that he wasn't making any money from us (there were 4 of us). Our friend, who has worked in hospitality, very gently said, "Dude, you're in the hospitality business--be hospitable." That further set the owner off, and he only complained more loudly about losing money. Our friend's efforts to talk quietly and reasonably with him, pointing out that he was in danger of letting his pride lose him customers, were rebuffed. I explained that I was sorry he felt that we were trying to take advantage of him, but that we were only using the expired Groupon according to Groupon's rules, that our intention was not to "scam" him (his word), that I failed to see how the situation would be any different if we'd presented the coupon prior to eating, and that perhaps he should not offer Groupons if they lose him money. He walked away into the kitchen, without any apology or further comment. We tipped our poor, apologetic waiter very well, and will never return. It's a shame. The food and waiters have always been great. This is not the first time the owner has been rather unpleasant, but it was by far the worst.
Food was ok service could have been better
We walked in and immediately didn't feel welcomed. The man who seated us didn't properly greet us he just asked if we had a reservation, which I did. Then he seated us in tight corner where other people were sitting very close to one another and I was hesitate because I wanted to chat comfortably. He told me I was being picky. I had questions about the menu as this was my first and last time at this restaurant. They offered grilled chicken liver and crab cakes which I inquired about. The waitress answered to the best of her ability, but she couldn't give a answer about the crab so she asked the same guy who seated us. He yelled out the crab was 17.99/lb which had nothing to do with my question. He then came to our table and asked what do you know about crab, I was immediately intimated because everyone heard and the fact the he's questioning my intelligence. He proceeded to say its not imititation its real, I responded to him saying my question is if its made with lump crab he then explained it had shrimp and crab in it. At that point I realized he didn't know much about crab but yet had the audacity to question my knowledge. Despite his I'll treatment the food was good and portion size was filling and the waitress was great. I will not recommend this restaurant nor will I dine there again.
