Burgers: 9/10 Cod horseshoe: 8/10 Corn fritters: 10/10 Overall: highly recommended! While out for a drive we stopped in for lunch because we'd heard good things. We were not disappointed. This is a great local dive and diner. Unlike many diners, this was very clean and not musty smelling. The atmosphere was vintage yet authentic. We asked for recommendations and the very helpful server mentioned the burger and cod horseshoe were excellent. They were. We also ordered corn fritters and were they a treat! I would definitely recommend this for lunch and I'm sure dinner would be even better!
First time dining here tonight. The food was great and service was wonderful. I had the crispy chicken sandwich with nashville hot added to it. My husband had the philly cheese steak sandwich. Then my kids had the mini corn dog kids meal and mac-n-cheese kids meal... they both cleared their plates and said they'd want to come back again (we don't always get that answer from them - so it's worth noting). Very large portions, additional sides, and complimentary rolls to start. We didn't have reservations for a Saturday night. It was good we showed up before 6 because it really started filling up.
Very good food and service
It was delicious! The best chicken ever! Service was great, drinks were good. If ever back in this area, it is a must!
The pan fried chicken is excellent. I would recommend this restaurant, all the food and fritters are really good.
An excellent afternoon with great drinks, food & service. Reasonable too!
Delicious food Amazing people Love eating there anytime we go
Hadn't been here in a year place has been redone inside and looked great. Still the same feel but freshened up. Our server was very friendly and very attentive. Had corn fritters for an appetizer not too many places have these yet alone do them right. They do them right, very good. My Cheeseburger with bacon added was excellent and huge. If there was any downside it would be that my dinner partners tenderloin had changed since our last visit (which was our reason for going there) she said it was still good just not like it was before. The menu has also been refreshed and we look forward to returning and trying other things.
The service was on point. Being that it was my first time there, the server explained the menu. All their food is made in house, none of that premade frozen stuff. Food came out hot, and was seasoned correctly, it was flavorful not over powering.
Had fish and chips, cole slaw and a chocolate martini; all good! But, oh man, those corn fritters were the best!!! I loved the atmosphere, except for the acoustics; a bit hard to hear my family's conversation. But, I will be going back 😊
Always loved this local been going for years. I do think ownership has changed. The inside is a bit nicer now but louder. We ordered the fried chicken. Cooked to perfection and largest chicken I ever had. The fritters are excellent. I ordered extra not knowing came with the meal. Great service from the waitress. So overall excellent. Only negitive it is a bit loud and where we sat busy with traffic. But great food and service.
Amazing place. Their jerk chicken is fantastic. One of our favorites is the pan fried chicken. Great flavor and large size pieces. AuGratin potatoes are the best I have ever had and you can't go wrong with the corn fritters. The whole family agrees this is one of the best restaurants in the area.
My sister and I went for the fried whole catfish dinner. It was excellent! Perfectly cooked, and a nice size. The side salad was exceptional with mixed greens and chopped fresh veggies. I liked the honey mustard dressing. The augratine potatoes were a nice change from the usual potato choices. The fritter that comes with it was huge and delicious! The service was excellent: very friendly and efficient.
I live in Sheridan, Illinois and make frequent trips down to Bass Pro in East Peoria and been meaning to stop in one day. Stopped today and I'm glad I did. The service is great. The food is awesome. Had the fried chicken. Delicious! Had the duck tenders, those are amazing with their homemade sauce. Definitely will stop again when I come through.
My wife ordered chicken fingers *full disclosure* I did not have a wife at the time and I was delusional. I currently have a gf who wants to be my fiancé and then wife and I will bring her to this establishment.
The fritters are amazing!! so is the adult root beer float!
Made a sudden stop there yesterday for dinner. Hadn't been there since the ownership changes. Enjoyed it before but really enjoyed it this time. You can see the effort they've made to slightly upscale the atmosphere. Not too fancy that anyone can't go there. The menu was big and has a large variety. Ben served us and was very personable. He made the experience very enjoyable and the food was great. Two of us at $34.00 was much cheaper than we expected for what we had. The Fritters could almost be desert!! Ben recommended the pumpkin fritters and my wife could not have been happier. Can't wait to go back.
this place is awesome! i love the atmosphere and the service. Fried chicken is the bomb! corn fritters are 2nd. don't come in expecting to get this chicken fast it's made per order so expect to relax and enjoy your time.
The entrees of ribeye and chicken and waffles were very good. The ribeye had nice flavor but a tad on the chewy side. The seven layer salad with chicken was excellent. However, the lobster french frys are outstanding. I could make a meal out of the lobster frys alone. The wait staff was outstanding. We will be back soon
We dined here in July with 6 of us. Fantastic service and food selection. Enjoyed the décor as well. What a gem of a place worth the drive and stop. Reminded me of when we lived in Minnesota w/décor and hospitality. Might be one of my favorite restaurants to eat at when in Illinois. Freshest salad I've ever had!
Great fried chicken and comfort foods. Rustic log cabin decor with full bar. It's not a high-end cocktail bar, more of a neighborhood bar with beer and simple mixed drinks. Great dinner, nice dining area with a good view including hummingbird feeders so you can see the activity of the birds while you dine. Good service and friendly people. Seasonal outdoor seating, wheelchair accessible. Standard "chair and table" seating for comfortable dining experience. Great tenderloin, but the fried chicken is the star here, with daily specials that include sides, including a salad and pasta in most cases. Also included are their signature corn-fritters, balls of dough with corn deep fried and served rolled in powdered sugar - very delicious, probably not the healthiest choice but excellent. Located on Rt 26 just south of the Santa Fe tracks on the east side of the road. They only take cash, but there is an ATM on site. My favorite place to eat fried chicken in central Illinois. Open for lunch and dinner.
Can't say enough "good things" about our experience here today ! Great service, fabulous food, cozy/warm atmosphere! Hubby had a great Tenderloin, I had the AWESOME Honey Bombed Chicken Sandwich...and OH, the CORN FRITTERS ! Absolutely can't wait to go back and try so many other things on the menu ! Big shout out to our super waitress, Cynthia, and to the Chef for even coming out the door when we were leaving to thank us! Worth the short drive up Rte.26 ...trust me!
I would give this place six stars if there was another one to hand out. Excellent food, excellent service. Best catfish fillets I've had in 20 plus years! Looking out the windows at all of the beautiful hummingbird feeders was such a fun experience! Loved this place 😊
Service was a little slow but the food made up for it. As always, hubbie and I had the whole catfish. I had the au graten potatoes, which were a bit soupy but had a great flavor. Nice salad. Loved the apple fritters and rolls too! My son had the half-pound burger and couldn't finish it. Worth the drive!
This place is awesome it changes its menu every day. The atmosphere looks cool but can be kind of loud when it's full of people. However, the food is excellent and you can get duck there and some other choices of the hunting nature. I must place to see and eat.
Very good food, generous portions. Pork tenderloin and fresh cut fries were excellent. Cozy, lodge vibes inside. It's a small place and fills up fast on the weekend, reservations recommended. I can't wait until my next visit.
If you are drawn to rustic hole-in-the-wall places, you’ll feel right at home. The food is quite good. The drive from Peoria is lovely this time of year. Best chicken in the area. My Pescatarian friends ordered the blue gill, said it was a real treat. Make sure you take some fritters home, if they last that long. Ron D.
Love this place!! It's close to my grandparents home and so when we all get together we visit here. I've always enjoyed the food, drinks & atmosphere. I love the stained glass decor for sale hanging in the windows & love seeing all the hummingbirds visiting outside while I'm eating❤️
This place is awesome, went with a group from My Motorcycle Chapter and sure was worth the drive , to start the corn fritters were so good then the fried chicken was delicious, the service was top notch.. looking forward to coming back
Hidden gem of a restaurant 20 minutes north of East Peoria. Take the drive slow and enjoy the scenery of the Illinois River. Food is always excellent. (I get the pan fried chicken every time because it’s so good!). Drink specials are tasty and service is super friendly.
Went for all you can eat fish and chips, it was great!!! Little different batter but it was gooood. The waitress was amazing and fun. I will definitely be going back and may just order the corn fritters... They have different kinds and you never know what it will be until you get there, tonight was chocolate chip!!! YUMMY KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB ALL!!! A MUST TRY
I recently visited this hidden gem, and I couldn’t be more impressed! From the moment we walked in, the down-to-earth atmosphere set the tone for a great meal. The food was delicious and came out incredibly fast, yet didn’t compromise on quality (or quantity!).The service was attentive without being overbearing, making us feel right at home. On top of that, they have a full bar with a great selection. If you’re looking for a fantastic dining experience off the beaten path, this is the place to be. Five stars all around!
What a great destination for a meal or fun. We will be back during warmer weather to see the outdoor set up. Food was great, service was great and prices were awesome! Definitely worth the drive!
Friday night catfish was very good. Corn fritters were the best! New pumpkin fritters are very good but I prefer the corn fritters. Country fried pork dinner was great and very filling.
A little out of the way but with the trip. Good beer and corn fritters.
Great food and super service! The members in our party tried the catfish, jumbo shrimp, and bluegill and all were cooked perfectly and tasted wonderful. And the appetizer of corn fritters is amazing and a must do!
Out for a drive to enjoy the fall colors and stopped in for some corn fritters!!!! YUM!!! Tried the pumpkin ones, too. They're good, but nothing beats the OG!
Went last Saturday for the first time in over 20 years.(First time I was maybe 10 years old) I must start off by saying the customer service was outstanding. The young hostess and our waitress, Randi were out of this world. They were polite and moved with a sense of urgency while taking the time to explain menu items and even offered some crackers to our crying child. The food was pretty good however the chicken tenders seemed to not quite live up to the hype but they were slammed busy and may have just had an "off" order. The fresh ingredients from the salad to the entree were great. We plan on going back to give it another try.
Food was great ... waitress attentive and efficient.. but says wheelchair accessible tables and restroom. They have just standard tables and couldn't fit my chair down narrow hallway let alone try go in restroom door...they also have a built-in bench that makes it hard take a chair into dinning room.. Food is great just not set up for wide adult wheelchair
Great food! You have to try the corn fritters!
went for all you can eat fish, after the first order they wete out of fish.
This restaurant used to be a family favorite. So my brother and I went there. Under new ownership. Salad was skimpy, house salad dressing was very good. We both ordered the whole fried catfish which was somewhat soggy and undercooked which never happened before. Service was ok but not the best. We will try it again but not for awhile. Hoping things get better and the new Midway Duck Inn is as good a dining experience as it has always been before.
Staff is awesome. Fries cooked to a hard crisp. Chicken strips bland and nothing to brag about. Everyone else's food wasn't very good either. Pretty sad as I had high hopes for this place. The service was good enough that I'll consider stopping in again some day and see if maybe it was an off night
This was our first time dining in. We ordered onion rings for our appetizer and my husband got fried pickles. I ordered the all white half fried chicken with french fries and au gratin potatoes and my husband ordered the chicken fingers in hot sauce with garlic potatoes and carrots. Each meal came with a fritter. The onion rings were super overdone to the point of hard and crunchy and almost black, and were over salted. the fried pickles were fine. When they brought our meals out my husbands meal was incorrect so it had to go back. His chicken was ok but the potatoes were good and he loved the carrots. My fried chicken was so over cooked and dry you could hardly eat it. I only ate half of one of the chicken breasts and each bite had to be a companied with a sip of water. It was so dry. The french fries were OK, it’s dark in there, so you can’t really see very well, but they looked dark, gray to black, and I’m not sure why that is. My au gratin potatoes were burnt on the top, so I skimmed that off, but they were otherwise good. the fritters were excellent. The food took around 45 minutes to come out. It seemed long. No one ever offered to refill our waters, which was our only beverage. The drive to this restaurant is a good 30-35 minutes for us. We will probably not drive that far again to eat here. The meal just wasn’t that good.
Pls note: our server was fantastic and kind. Management was NOT. Not only were they scarce but lazy and unprofessional. They don’t know what they are doing and need POS training to provide the correct order buttons for their servers. My wife wanted to surprise me and take me to a hometown spot she frequented with her family as a teenager. Didn’t know it was under new management but I can tell you- this is called midway Duck inn but the management is below MID-way. Went from a delish meal with a few hiccups that we at first overlooked, only to be disappointed and charged for sides that came with our meal bc they didn’t update their pos system and sent their lovely server to apologize on their behalf but continue to charge us. My wife ordered a meal that comes with a side salad and side. She asked for an additional side of asparagus which had an up charge which was perfectly acceptable. However, we got charged extra for one of the sides that came with the meal. We asked to speak with management after pointing out the mistake and both managers refused to fix the issue and then refused to visit our table. They requested my wife to go to speak with her at the bar bc she was too busy serving an empty bar and a chef who was busy sending out withered salad to tables to speak with my wife. On that note: my wife replied with , no the manager can come speak to us just like any normal manager should. We sat waiting for at least 25 minutes to get through a three minute common sense solution. Instead of this one time $100 customer experience that will be their only customer experience. Lost out of potential business over a $5 side. I don’t recommend going to this place unless you want ok food and a side of P.O.S service. I feel bad for serves who work under this management. To treat customers like this made it out to be what was a simple correction to an uncomfortable one. Unfortunately this is just my review. Back to the manager situation, I’ve never been to a restaurant that left their server hanging without any clue on how to fix the solution as if the server apologizing so many times but not comping a side that was obviously over charged. A customer shouldn’t have to pay for the managements mistakes period. This place won’t be open long with management like this. Good luck.
Two hours to get overcooked chicken & a catfish filet with no taste. They need to attend to the landscaping as the outdoor view of dirty bird feeders & weeds in front lawn was not appealing. I hope they can improve.
The waiters were extremely rude last sunday. The bar has little options, and bad tasting wine. And the all around staff seems like a rush job. If you were planning on going here. plan on never going back. And plan on spending $150.
Wish this place had good food, tried it a few times, very nice bartenders, but food is not good. Had the Thursday special, country fried special, had beef. Came with salad, had the apple garlic vinaigrette, could not taste apple or garlic, the beef had no flavor, gravy on top had no flavor, mashed potatoes although real, were watered down with no taste gravy, corn with cream cheese, canned corn, dollop cream Cheese, microwave and viola cream cheese corn, green beans with bacon...now let's talk fritters, ordered twice to go, corn, and both times middles were raw, this time, the outside crunchies, and half inside still raw....don't think we can come back unless food changes...AGAIN service good, food is a NO
We’ve been coming here for several years now and it’s always been delicious but the last 2 times have been terrible. My husband had the catfish and said both fillets tasted like they’d gone bad. The last time we were there and the potatoes were off, we said something and the cook argued via our server. He didn’t say anything this time and just didn’t eat. I had an incorrect sauce and asked for the correct one and again, the cook argued via our server. Both times he has actually eaten food off of our plates! He was way behind the last time and we were told that he chewed out our server when she tried to check on our order. Today, it’s 90° outside and it felt like the same inside. We were so hot sitting in there and couldn’t wait to get to the car. Literally all the food has changed, even the fritters were bland. I’m not sure what happened here but it’s not good and we won’t be back for a very long time.
What we thought would turn out to be a solid experience, turned south so quickly and here's why. Kids meal, chix tenders with fries & corn fritter. Main meal comes with choice of 1 salad or soup & a side. 2 Catfish pieces meal, Caesar salad, mashed Potatoes/gravy. Additional side Asparagus. Fried Chicken w/ HS salad & side of mashed potatoes/gravy. My Cesar salad came as a house salad (topping of red onion, tomatoes, croutons, carrots, yellow & orange sweet bell pepper diced) w/ dos. While mixing, under the top bedding of lettuce was spoiled/wilted; enough to fill a chaffer dish. When I got a replacement, it was then romaine salad, croutons & parmesan chz, ori. what was to be expected- a true Caesar salad. As dinner arrived, everything looked great & our server asked if anything was missing. My side of mashed potatoes had yet to arrive but soon it came. After having the salad issue, I wanted to avoid further complaints... but man I found a long hair embedded in one of my catfish, my husband watched as I pulled it out. In hindsight, I should have alerted the server. It was just going south, & we honestly didn't want this to go that direction. Our server had been extremely caring, checking on us throughout. We proceeded & I just removed that outer layer of breading before eating. My husband's chicken was as expected. We were curious about the Bomb Sauces- but found to be normal average sweet baby rays. As soon as the bill came, found my catfish meal was getting charged for not only the asparagus, but my mashed potatoes. As noted above, the meals come w/ a sd salad or soup one & side. I let the server know there was an error. Regardless of how a server puts the order into the system, I ordered a sd that came with the meal & then added the asparagus in addition to. She returned stating she was told by mgmt to tell us, due to the way they have to input the order into the system- it was just how it was. Apparently- the asparagus could only be ordered as an upcharge with the meal as the sd because it wasn't an option as a side order. This meant, my free choice of a sd gets bypassed, and it was unavoidable. Whether it was meant or not, the mistake turned into an error that should have been corrected by mgmt willingly. If you don't believe the customers statement- you have cameras and can go back to hear me order the potatoes first & then add the additional sd of asparagus. But why would you right? That would be too much work! We asked to speak with mgmt since she had not offered any other resolution. She returned embarrassed & flustered, saying I was free to approach mgmt at the bar & that they would not be coming out as they do not like to. It is unprofessional to tell me I must get out of my seat to look for mgmt. She said the other manager was the chef but he doesn't like to come out either. At this point, over a $5 side, I refused to pay until it was resolved. I explained yet again to the server that it isn't right to charge customers just because they don't want to input the proper prompts/buttons for ordering no matter how little the cost. Their menu clearly stated the sides that came with & that's exactly how I ordered it. The server disappeared for another 5 + minutes & they finally returned having comped the side. We were so understanding after all those mistakes. I offered a chance to communicate & they refused. I suggest proper management training and POS training. Most of importantly... DON'T MAKE YOUR SERVERS LIE! We asked for your names, & you gave Megan & Tom. But clearly- your business states owners Susan & Todd. How on earth did you think it would make sense to lie? Our community deserves honesty. Your server has a bright future; she did a wonderful job but is undervalued or respected. In order to be successful & sustainable in a service led industry- you must have honor & not fear mistakes but embrace them with willingness to change bc that's the only way to build something that will last. Why should anyone return to support an establishment who doesn't care about those who support them? God Bless!
