Opinions de Smokehouse Abilene Abilene
For brunch, I highly recommend their chicken and waffles. This dish perfectly balances sweet and savory, and the chicken is always cooked to crispy perfection. It's become a must-have for my weekend brunch routine. Lunch at Smokehouse Abilene is also a treat. The Cubano sandwich is packed with flavor, and the meats are smoked just right, providing an authentic taste that's hard to find elsewhere. The Cobb salad is another favorite, fresh and hearty, making for a satisfying lunch option. When it comes to pricing, it's quite reasonable and comparable to other downtown restaurants. But what truly sets Smokehouse Abilene apart is its high-quality service. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and make sure every dining experience is enjoyable. Whether you're a local or just passing through, I highly recommend Smokehouse Abilene for any meal of the day. It's a culinary experience that consistently impresses with its delicious food and exceptional service.
This is a review for the Cattlemen's Exchange, the hotel bar next to the restaurant. I did not have any food, but the drinks and service were top notch! SMOKED OLD FASHIONED! If you love them then you have to try it, made from a locally distilled bourbon. They have a small collection of craft beers on tap including local options. Great selection of liquors! Not sure about wines, haven't had any but have seen several drinking and enjoying them. TV with local games on, several comfortable lounge chairs/couches around the bar, as well as a great outdoor patio area with several tables and chairs. 20% DISCOUNT FOR LOCALS! Side note: This place should be listed separately from the restaurant. The bar makes the restaurants drinks but they have a completely separate space/name.
My wife and I celebrated her 23rd birthday there and we had such an amazing time, our waitress Hailey was amazing and we got the best service we’ve ever had in Abilene! David one of the managers I believe and another sweet lady (i forgot her name) helped make my wife’s birthday intimate and special…each dish we ate had such a unique taste and bold flavor…we had hardly anything to take home! my wife and I both ordered 14oz ribeyes with a side of greens and Mac and cheese, that I definitely suggest ordering when you go. The other sweet waitress took time out of her shift to take pictures of us, we loved her so much! We are definitely going to be back for anniversaries and birthdays to come!
Sat at the bar and ordered a Smokehouse burger. It was DELICIOUS and service was quick and friendly!
Steak was perfection!! Highly recommend! Will definitely be back!!
had a wonderful dinner - great flavor, cool atmosphere
Food was excellent. Heather took really good care of us!!!
Fast. Prompt. Polite. Modern.
Food was delicious- service was great- will return for more
Food is basic but every thing else is 10 of 10
Very clean restaurant and friendly staff
Great steaks! We ordered the filet mignon and ribeyes, perfectly seasoned and tender. Jessica and Wendy greeted us with smiles and continued to check on us. Daniel was our awesome server.
My husband and I began with drinks in the Cattlemen's Bar, perfect drinks, and then moved to the Smokehouse for dinner. The food was excellent and service was great. My husband had the smoked prime rib and I had short ribs. It was a fabulous evening.
Had hayden as a waiter when our waitress never showed. And he was great recommending us great choices. He was great with my kids. He was very knowledgable on dishes. He was kind, and very whole hearted in his job and duties. He really made the new experience great for us. If your lucky enough to have him as your server you won't regret it. My only negative was watching a supervisors speaking down on him in front of us where i could hear the interaction from across the room. Shows poor management. A good manager would take someone to the side away from customers to speak about an issue as well as encourage them with a compliment so the employee doesn't feel lesser then like they are only doing a poor job when he did an amazing job. He's a human being. and deserves more. Thank you again hayden.
Ordered the flatiron steak and was really blown away by the quality. Service was top notch, atmosphere was nice, and again the food stood out. Would highly recommend.
I have to give a big shout out to the Jerron & David at the bar! My wife and I had a fabulous weekend stay while in town for a wedding. I recommend the brisket plate, it was delicious!
Delicious food! Had the Cowboy Ribeye. I was tearing into it before it dawned on me that I didn't take photos. Next time. Bring your large wallet. Pricey.
We came from Houston and ended up at the Smokehouse. It was super, great food, wonderful service and a shout out to Sam M. our waitress. You made our evening!
I have eaten here several times and always had a great experience. Love their breakfast, and they have great lunch options!
With free valet parking when you eat at the restaurant and a filet that I’d put toe to toe with any other in Abilene, I can’t recommend the Smokehouse enough as a fantastic dinner option!
Got in town late and was welcomed in for dinner by Wendy. She made me feel like I was the first customer of the night and not the last. Trevor did a fantastic job and was attentive and welcoming. The filet hit the spot and was absolutely cooked to perfection. Glad I stopped in before calling it a night. Appreciate the outstanding service, thank you!
We went to the Smokehouse for a date night on Saturday. My wife had the salmon and I had the red snapper. I hadn't had snapper in many years and forgot how much I love it! My wife gets salmon most of the time when we go out anywhere, and she was VERY happy with the Smokehouse version. We also got the pork belly appetizer, which was phenomenal. Overall, 5 stars all around--can't recommend enough! Food, drinks and service were all superb!
The Ruben sandwich is to die for. It's made with shaved smoked brisket and homemade Russian dressing.
Hands down one of the best restaurants in Abilene! The service was flawless during brunch on Sunday. I had the Chicken and Waffles and when I tell you they were the BEST Chicken and Waffles I’ve ever had!! The Fried Okra was delicious! The breading they use is full of flavor and had the perfect crisp. My son ate his entire burger and fries….so it’s also kid approved! The only regret I have is not ordering dessert…next time! Can’t wait to go back again!
We had one of the best meals here during our stay at the Doubletree coming back to Houston from Taos in early Jan 2025. I had the Seared Snapper with a Honey-Thyme Gastrique over a Black Eyed Pea Cassoulet. It was delicious. All the food here was fantastic during our stay. A real gem in the heart of Abilene!
We dined on Sunday evening. This was originally planned for a large group, but over half of the members flights were delayed. It ended up only being 5 of us. Despite having so cancel so many meals that were planned, we were treated wonderfully. Food was amazing, service was top notch, and drinks were great. I had the Cajun pasta. The shrimp were huge and some of the best I've had in Abilene. We will be back soon. Thank you for being so flexible despite most of our party not making it in.
Really good food. Amazing vibes. Great spot for a family dinner or date with someone special
We had the private room for my great grandmothers birthday. Staff was very friendly and professional and did everything possible to make the experience special for her! Dessert was absolutely fantastic with truly Texas sized portions. Highly recommend this place for your next family get together! Thank you SO MUCH Smokehouse!
I got the NY strip. Good steak, perfectly cooked, good cut. I feel like it shouldn’t need to be mentioned but I swear I’ve only had a properly cooked steak a handful of times in the last couple of years irrespective of price. Came out perfectly medium and a solid sear as requested. Caesar dressing is different but very good. Staff were all very nice, and my food came out quickly.
I am a local, born here raised here. From the moment I walked in Wendy greeted us and took care of us. I will return, not for the food, but because of Wendy. All the food was just below par. The presentation was beautiful, but the taste was just lacking. I was very embarrassed because I had hyped up the restaurant. I was bringing my family that has moved back from Germany to Abilene, Texas. Then to have to pay over $300 for my meal, that was just not good. Wendy made my feed back not about complaining, but how they need growth in a few areas. I also realize even chiefs have off days. I’m so thankful for people like Wendy, because she is what community is ALL about. With that said, I can’t wait to go back and eat there, all because Wendy. So Wendy if you read this, thank you for the care you extended to me and my family.
We just came down to have a cup of coffee. They welcomed us so warmly even though they knew we wouldn’t be a big ticket. The hostess, Wendy was SO kind. It was like coming down to my family’s house with the way they served. Our waitress was lovely too. Very attentive to us even though she knew she wouldn’t be eating. I HIGHLY recommend purely based off service!
Had the smoked brisket and thought it was excellent with a good smokey flavor. The potatoes had a nice garlic flavor. The next day I went to the bar next door which uses the same kitchen and menu, and ordered a burger. I was less impressed with the burger compared to the brisket the day before. A lot of low reviews seem to be about service here... nonetheless, I will return!
We came here for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised based on the mixed reviews. My husband got the ribeye with fries and I got the fillet mignon with the green Chile Mac n cheese. Our steaks were great! Cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sides were a little lack luster. Not bad but not the best we’ve had by any means. We also got the skillet cookie and we were impressed by the sheer size of this thing! It could easily feed 4-5 people. Again, it was good, but not great. Service was a little slow, which was surprising since there was hardly anyone there. We would probably go back just based on how good our steaks were and maybe just try some different sides.
Went for drinks, desserts and coffee after dinner at a place next door. Dessert portions were huge! I recommend sharing with at least 3-4 people. My friends and I got one each just to try them and best one was the cookie skillet. They loved it. For me it's way too sweet because I'm not a big fan of really sweet stuff or chocolate unless it's dark. Creme brûlée shoud be on the menu. The carrot cake has too much cinnamon for my preference. Coffee was good and strong. Casual atmosphere. Place seems to have issue with noise. Light background music would help.
Went for dinner. Had cocktail each (every person thought they were delicious-3 different). Main meal—good. We all had desserts. Most were huge. Ask about size if that matters. I took most of my carrot cake home and had three more desserts from it. We had someone gluten free with us and the staff(without prompting) brought her the hotel package cookies. Obviously they weren’t chef made, but it made her so happy to be able to eat dessert with everyone.
Our first visit. The filet was a little overcooked but adequate. Prices were a bit high. I mean $6 for about the same amount of fries as you would get at McDonald's ? On the other hand, our server, Hailie (I hope I spelled it right) was wonderful. Very attentive. A hard working young lady, a physics major at McMurrey and working there too. One complaint is there is absolutely NO sound deadening material employed and the noise level was pretty high for no more people than were there (about 13). When the toddler at the next table let out a shriek it was ear piercing.
We were hoping for great restaurant experience in Abilene. Instead, we were greeted with long waits for food (while there were maybe 10 tables of couples) the staff was inattentive and forgetful and spent more time on their phones than taking care of customers. I understand it's a holiday weekend and we tried to be understanding. I waited 20 mins for an order only to have the waitress come over and ask "didn't you order a drink"? I spoke to mgmt and said we were disappointed. I doubt we will be back. Furthermore, when the menu says braised short rib. I should get a short rib and not a beef rib that's hard and dry, photo provided for bone size comparison. Overall, this was a very disappointing $48 plate. However, the bar was great...
I have tried pork chops at Stazione, Cypress Street, and Black Cur so I went in with high expectations. The price point was that of other fine dining restaurants. The pork chop was more on the dry side and under seasoned. The short rib was tasty (could use more sauce) and huge! The grits it came with were cheesy so that was a plus. The bourbon peach drink was underwhelming. it reminded me of Hteao tea with a hint of bourbon. The green chili mac and cheese was good. We had the 2 priciest items on the dinner menu. Based on those I am not inclined to try other items. Service was good, had it's kinks naturally. So people know, the restaurant is facing the civic center not Beehive.
My husband and I went on a Sunday for dinner. We started with the brussel sprouts and the jalapeno cornbread. I liked the flavor of the brussel sprouts, but they were too tough. It says they're fried, so I was expecting more of a crispiness, but they were not at all crispy. Great flavor, though. My husband LOVED the cornbread. I liked it. I love sweet cornbread, and this was not sweet. I explained it to my husband as: If Texas had a flavor, it would be this cornbread. For the main course, I ordered the brisket, and my husband ordered a filet. He LOVED his filet. He even talked about it hours later when we were sitting on the couch watching tv. I thought my brisket was ok. I've had standout brisket here in Abilene, and this doesn't make even my top 5. The flavor is good, but the texture is terrible. It was chewy and rough. The potatoes were good, but the gravy was bland. The broccolini was bland and didn't really go with the brisket, in my opinion. For the price, we expected the best. It is very expensive for what it is. Our server, Delaney, was awesome. She definitely deserves all the stars.
Went to Smokehouse this evening. Our waiter Jacob was fantastic. My husband and I got the bourbon peach sweet tea and those we delicious. We got the pork belly for an appetizer and I loved it! I ordered the snapper for my entree and the waiter mentioned the grouper was their special tonight so my husband ordered that and the green chili Mac and cheese (which was delicious). Unfortunately, I was extremely underwhelmed. The fish had no flavor whatsoever. I was very disappointed. I don't usually order fish at a restaurant but I wanted something different and I deeply regret it. Overall though I would probably come back to order something else and see if my experience changes, but I dont recommend the fish. Our total for two people plus tip was $150.
Smokehouse. Drop those hideous pickles. We were a party of six. The Cubano was a unanimous (3 of us) failure due to lack of dill pickles, lack of the correct mustard, inclusion of pickles that taste like cinnamon topped cobbler. My sister loved her Cobb Salad. My other sister said the burger was very good. So fix the Cubano and all will be good. Great service. Cool atmosphere.
Bit overpriced. Not much. Thing is. No grilled chicken. Not for lunch or dinner. What a shame. One strange thing. Was looking at the menu at the hostess stand. The manager today came out and smiled and said hi how are you? I said good but looking to get some grilled chicken. He said nothing nada. Not nice
I got the cubano sandwhich and it wasn’t good very dry no sauce almost completely bread no meat however the service was very good the waitress was very nice and very fast at getting us our food
I'm staying at the Double Tree, so I decided to eat at the Smokehouse. I ordered the Smoked Pork Belly. It took forever to arrive as the restaurant seemed understaffed and overwhelmed by the customers they did have. When my food finally arrived, it was not worth the wait as it had zero flavor and even worse presentation. The next morning, I was pressed for time and time, and against my better judgment, I ate breakfast here. I ordered coffee, eggs, hash brown, and bacon. The coffee was cold, bacon tasted like microwave, and the rest of the food was bland. No amount of salt, pepper and Tabasco sauce could save this breakfast. This establishment is not recommended.
Mixed on this, the mushrooms were by far the best, mac and cheese was good, but NY Strip was Gristly and just not good, for 50 bucks I expected a higher quality cut. I even told our waiter about it and he still charged me in full. I doubt I'll ever come here again.
The service was good but the food all around was mediocre at best and inedible at worst. The chicken sandwhich was gross The breading was disgusting and none of the sauces were good and they clashed. The fried green tomatoes were greasy and again the breading was gross. The burger was fine. But overall I would not eat here again.
Bartendress was great! Burger with brisket on it was garbage. Brisket had a crunch which is never a good thing. Burger patty had a salty crust and a terrible propane bbq taste. It was $30 and worst Burger I've ever had.
Boxed and canned food at the price of fresh and chef prepared food… 😏
$30 for a hamburger is outlandish. We split it among the three of us because who could afford a burger? Then the burger wasn’t even that good.
Unimpressed, actually disappointed. Paid almost 60 bucks for a ribeye, it was good, don't get me wrong but no where near 60 dollar steak. Good food but very overpriced.
My daughter's eggs were gross, the hash browns were cold, and the service was super slow. They've gone downhill fast I hope they can turn things around.
Been here twice. Do the right thing and just head over to Cracker Barrel…
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary. We had never been here before and decided to give it a try. The decor is not what you expect for a fine dining restaurant. It looked more like a Luby’s than fine dining. The food was ok but not what you call outstanding. Our waitress was nice and on point. It was 7 o’clock on a Friday night and there was only one other couple in there. Not what you expect for a restaurant on a Friday night. I honestly do not think we will give it another try.
Stayed at the hotel for a seminar and after check out time on a Friday, went to a local brunch place that was full and brought back food to eat. Although the hostesses at this restaurant were always friendly, we were told we couldn’t sit and eat any outside food in the area between the bar and restaurant because it was still considered part of the restaurant. I found that so weird since it was just a sitting area and I don’t recall any signs or the hotel staff saying anything about it. It made no sense because NO ONE was around the whole lobby area. I didn’t eat at this restaurant because the reviews were so bad and there are MANY other fabulous eateries around so I wouldn’t spend my money here.
Went there with my girlfriend on a Saturday night, the place was dead. We waited about 45 minutes after our initial order to receive our food, where I had ordered the prime rib special medium rare. What I got was a prime rib, cold as hell, hard as leather. Server ran off before I could send it back, didn’t even wait for me to cut into it, and finally when I sent it back (which a minute after we decided to just pay and leave, after finally receiving our side of Mac’n cheese with noodles not even close to being cooked), they heat up the same steak, exact same prime rib cut, no longer medium rare but well done, and package it up. Sure, I should’ve looked at the to go box before leaving, but who has the audacity to bag up the same steak heated up (well done) after a customer complains that they didn’t get what they ordered? The chef/manager must be trying to save a dying restaurant to pull these kind of shenanigans… but in reality only digging its grave deeper.
Ordered from here twice. Both times disappointed, dissatisfied and disgusting. Cesar is not a Cesar salad. Why is there bacon, pepper corn, and a lack of chicken even though it was an extra 16. Ordered the short ribs, just the look of it you can tell it was burnt. Tried to go past the burnt top. Only to discover the inside tasted burnt. The meat looked juicy. Let’s just say you can’t judge a book by its cover. It was dry and tasted burnt. Over priced, over cooked and under delivered on flavor. Avoid this place at all cos, or else it will cost you good money for food that is not fit for a dog.
Only good thing was the nice Atmosphere inside the Hotel. THE FOOD WAS TERRIBLE!! TRIED EVERYTHING ON MENU, NOTHING WAS EDIBLE. Service was HORRIBLE! Our waiter didn’t refill drinks or check on us the whole hour we were there. Manager was VERY RUDE!!! Do not recommend eating here!!!!!!! Take your money someplace elsewhere in Abilene!! DO NOT RECOMMEND TRYING!!!!
I do not recommend the breakfast. I really want this place to succeed and I’m not sure if it’s the cook or the quality of food they are being given. Our eggs were powdered and my husband’s biscuits and gravy were horrible where we weren’t sure what they were. How can you mess up breakfast that bad? The service was great but I’m hoping they will work on the food.
If you want a $30 hamburger and don't mind waiting 40 minutes to get it the Smokehouse Abilene is for you. To add insult to injury a pint of draft beer is $15.
Food is terrible and every plate costs $25-$40. Although they advertise it as a restaurant, it’s clearly just a hotel restaurant. We had high hopes, but all 7 of us came out saying “meh.” I recommend avoiding this place.
No one said anything to us. They looked very uncomfortable. We were told that they would serves even if they stopped breakfast at 10am. Never was served. Do NOT recommend for visitors.
Don’t get the short rib! Nothing but fat and no seasoning at all. It’s a nice fancy restaurant, but for the price you’re paying for the food, I will never go back had a party of 15 people and nobody was impressed.
Food was way over priced for the quality. I would much rather go to the bee hive and enjoy actual good food instead of some hotel slop made to look fancy.
We were there dinner time last May. Meatloaf taste like Fake meat, calamari are night and day difference with Olive Garden. Without a doubt, Olive Garden is a lot better. They have grits at that time with olives, SOOO AWFUL TASTE. Smokehouse Calamari small portion, expensive, robbery and microwavable quality which is not good, chicken wings are like re heat from the microwave. Me and my husband will Spend 40 to 50 dollars from Beehive Restaurant Abilene TX but NOT from this restaurant. Last May, no issues on giving us Military Discount. But then when we came back for Lunch, just to try, issues with military discounts. Now they said, no military discount. Not consistent. Fish Taco is not worth it. Possibly, the manager will need to re think and change the menu?
Positives: The dining area was lovely and the regional decor was well done. We were a party of seven and were seated immediately. Negatives: We enjoy fine food and are blessed to be able to afford an occasional splurge, but their prices are simply outrageous - $30 for a hamburger?!? We waited for more than an hour for our burger to arrive, and it was lukewarm at best. The other members of our party also said their food ranged from warm to cold. My wife and I asked to not have the Alabama white sauce on our burger, but it arrived sauced. Our server never checked to see if any of us were satisfied with our orders, and we had to call to him to notify that ours wasn't prepared to our specifications. To be fair, they offered to remake our order, but at this point the other members of our party were nearly finished with their meals and confidence in the kitchen was low, so we declined and left hungry. Service was competely absent, despite the fact there were an equal number of open and occupied tables. No updates on our order during our hour-long wait, and our server only refilled our drinks when we flagged him down. We will not return.
Went to Smokehouse Abilene and ordered the short rib — dry, tough, and basically overpriced beef jerky. Someone in my group got brisket that was overcooked, and another got steak that was undercooked. For the ridiculous prices they charge, the food should at least be edible. I would never recommend this place to anyone, and honestly, the whole restaurant needs to be shut down for good.
Attempted to have dinner, and it was served an hour after ordering. It was a $30 burger served tepid and slathered in the sauce I asked not to have. Fries were okay but not hot. I sent it back and ate at home. The others in our party were generally unsatisfied with their food as well; saying it was cold and salty. The server didn't check on us, didn't find out why there was a delay, and filled drinks only when we flagged him down and was generally inattentive. I do not recommend.
Food was absolutely disgusting only thing worth your money is the burger or the steak. Everything else tasted like someone trying a new recipe for the first time. Overpriced everything
I don’t usually complain nor leave bad reviews but this one is a needed one —When Smokehouse Abilene first opened, both the food and service were impressive. But unfortunately, the quality has steadily declined. We attended their Christmas event last December breakfast with Santa, and the service was chaotic and inattentive. I tried to be understanding since it was a special event, but even the food was subpar as well. Still hoping for a better experience, we gave it another try yesterday for their Mother’s Day brunch. Big mistake. We were seated but completely ignored—no one explained the process nor we were asked what drinks we want, nothing. I had to get up and ask someone, and the waitress simply said, “It’s been a long day and had to use the bathroom” with little accountability. I understand the industry is demanding, especially on holidays/events like this, but that kind of service is unacceptable— i just went on with the waitress joking around just not to ruin everyones mood. The food was also disappointing—bland and underwhelming. Sadly, this was the last straw. I really wanted to support a local business, but this place has gone downhill. I won’t be returning.
I'm not sure about the other meals here but do NOT get the breakfast. My scrambled eggs had a VERY chemical taste, which everyone else at my table agreed, and even the chef agreed they tasted weird upon sending them back. In addition my hashbrowns (aka hash-brick) was not even thawed all the way to the center and the middle of the "brick" was cold. AND the waitress dropped one of my pieces of toast on the floor and never brought me a new one... If I could give a 0 star for the breakfast I would :/
