Opinions de East End Pizza Co. Alameda
They have this one bartender there, Bunny, who is hands down the most thorough and friendly I've encounteted. My gluten free dining companion asked about the soup and Bunny knew to ask a more specific question than either of us thought of. Also, their cocktails are balanced and we'll thought out and though I didn't eat, the food looks delicious.
Yes, the prices are a little steep, but you get what you pay for...and when it comes to pizza, East End gets it spot on: thin, crispy, tasty (especially the Diablita). The cocktails are not half bad too. The island needs more places on a par with East End.
The food was soooooo good. I truly recommend to order the "campanelle with mushroom ragu" and pair it with Brazilian Sangria. And for an appetizer please do get the Garlic Knob. The staff were so kind and welcoming. Also the mixed green salad was good. I really enjoyed everything. Can't wait to come back!
East End is amazing. The food is excellent, and the drinks are excellent as well. Most of the menu is high end pizza, but if you are gluten free like I am, there are still a lot of great things to eat. I had oysters and risotto and mussels. All were top notch. The owners are friendly, as is all of the waitstaff, highly recommend.
One of the best restaurants in the East Bay. Great service, awesome bartenders with a lot of personality. The pizzas are incredible. Really excellent dough. The pictures I've seen on google don't do them justice. They also have a great dinner menu beside pizza. Great for cocktails and eating at the bar or for a casual date night.
I am a regular at East End because I think they provide the best overall atmosphere, food and value in Alameda. The menu is small but everything on it is excellent and well thought out. There are dishes good for children and good for grown-ups. What are plenty of meat dishes on the menu, a vegetarian can also assemble a very nice meal that doesn't stint on variety or flavor. For people who don't want to be around kids there's a wonderful long bar that's great for eating drinking and, if you like, conversation. Their cocktail program is simply one of the finest in San Francisco, They also have a well curated selection of wine, beers and ales and nonalcoholic drinks. The space is light and airy and relatively quiet. The service is attentive and professional. My only wish is that they had a gluten-free crust for their wonderful pizza.
One of my favorite places in the area. The food is delicious and the staff are always nice. Plus it is close to the movie theater so it is perfect for a date night. I highly recommend the french fries and the meat lovers pizza (I also add anchovies). The shrimp risotto is also very good. The atmosphere is nice and the large windows make for a beautiful sight as the sun goes down. Definitely worth giving a try if you are in the area.
I love East End so very much. I no longer live in Alameda but whenever we come back to visit - a stop at East End is required! I’m a three hour flight away but they’re never far from my mind.
Easily the best pizza I've had in Alameda and one of the best in the Bay Area. It's wood-fired with thin crust, with a balanced amount of cheese. This pizza is more similar to what you'd find in Italy than a typical US pizza parlor. The Diavola in particular is great, but they update the menu seasonally and you really can't go wrong. I also really like the atmosphere in the restaurant, really fun place to have a meal and a glass of wine!
Hands down the best pizza in Alameda, top notch cocktails, and a great selection of beer & wine. Happy hour specials on drinks and oysters = good times! Reservations recommended (can be made online).
One of my favorites. Been here, 3 times now. I've only had drinks, appetizers and pizza, but I've never been dissapointed. I'm a self proclaimed vintage cocktail snob and they have some of the best in Alameda. I would come here more often, but with the aromas of ridiculous pizza and my lack of will power when it comes to carbs and cheese, it's a dangerous combination. Sebastian is a fantastic cocktail connoisseur and was great to chat with. Definitely check this place out. See for yourselves.
Great neighborhood establishment with outstanding food/drinks and the most professional service. Excellent decor with an open kitchen which is very entertaining. Lots of glass (windows) makes for excellent people watching and adds a sense of involvement in a charming island community still hiding in the Bay Area.
East End has the best pizza in the East Bay, in my opinion. Their 9" pizza is never enough for me though, and it's all too tempting to eat an entire 14" by myself. But I usually eat at the restaurant. Once I took a pizza to go, and by the time I ate it, about 15 minutes later at home, it wasn't nearly as good. Their specials change seasonally, but their standard margherita and bianca are always great. They also have an impressive liquor selection and cocktail menu.
We came to East End on a Thursday evening. There was no wait and we were welcomed graciously. The interior is very charming. Hard seating which isn't my favorite but I was able to endure. It's a large open space, high ceilings, and rustic decor. The tables are placed so that they aren't right next to each other and angled so that they aren't side by side. You can see the wood fired oven from your seat but the ventilation is so great you don't smell any smoke at all. The cocktails were so well balanced you can hardly tell there's alcohol. They were very tasty and super smooth. Hats off to the mixologist, she really did a great job. We had the warm herbed olives with honey and they were fabulous! Such a great difference from a cold olive plate. Highly recommended! The honey with the salty is a magical pair. The meatball appetizer was also great. Nice portion for an appetizer, the bread was crunchy and smokey, and the meatballs had great texture and flavor. They weren't packed with bread crumbs to dilute the flavor of the meat. The little gem salad was nice and crisp. The fried capers were a great touch. The dressing needed a little more zing. It was nicely dressed but couldn't taste much. The mushroom ragu pasta was creamy, al dente, and had great delicate mushroom flavor. Nicely done! My friend is from Rome and she definitely approved. The pizza was phenomenal! We ordered the Diablita and it was probably the most simple pizza I've ever tasted but the flavors were crazy! It is definitely spicy and a perfect pizza! So good! We also got Mr. Terranova and added arugula (even though the menu says it isn't allowed). The crispy shallots added a great texture and flavor. It was a tasty pie for sure but the Diablita stole the show. We look forward to trying the other pizzas soon! The staff was wonderful, our main server Anne was the nicest lady. We appreciated her friendly persona and cheery smile. We did not have room to try the dessert but imagine it would be just as great as everything else. We highly recommend dining here. We will be back! ❤️
As part of my Alameda Restaurant Week exploration, I spent time at East End documenting their offerings. They maintain a friendly, changing menu that keeps things interesting. The pizzas feature great toppings, but they also serve interesting and authentic pasta and meat dishes worth trying. Paul, the owner, is an artist with food - you can see his creativity throughout the menu. The non-pizza items are definitely worth checking out. It's upscale, but in a distinctly Alameda way that remains approachable.
Local squid was super good. Our server was pleasant and cool. Foods were balanced and not over seasoned at all. Impressed. Cocktails were the same. Balanced taste of liquor and sweetness impressed us. I can’t wait to visit and try other dishes!
Wow, this was the first time in a long time we've really had top notch service! Came on a Friday night with reservations (they'll give you a better table if you get reservations) and really enjoyed the food. Everything pictured was $90 with tax + tip
Fantastic service! Great menu selection too it a nice balance of comfort food with just the right amount of upscale. Happy hour has some nice specials and all the draft beers were local craft.
My partner and I happened upon this lovely spot by chance, it happened to be happy hour and we saw the sign for $12 oysters, they were the best tasting oysters we've ever had, period. We love oysters and order them often from many other establishments in the area, they tend charge more for less value. The service was impeccable and made us feel right at home, Thank you Sean for the conversation, delicious drinks and over all great and knowledgeable service. 10/10 will recommend to even the most meticulous of our friends and definitely will return to sample the rest of the menu. It was an entirely wonderful experience!!
Exceptional pizza and ARW 24 dishes. Lamb shank was tender and fell off the bone. Hope they'll put this dish on their regular menu. Beers were excellent too.
Amazing food, drinks and service. We randomly saw their sign outside with their specials on it and went in to grab the desert they were serving. We ended up ordering dinner and drinks as well. The server was amazing, offering to let us try a drink before committing to ordering it, but it was amazing so we kept it. Everything tastes incredible and the cocktail menu is large and very unique. The atmosphere is nice, and not to much. I highly recommend going here if you are in the area.
Food is very good for the price and not overly salty or sweet which is very refreshing. Prices are reasonable for the portion you get. Don't expect a quick meal, food and service are slow.
One of the best gourmet pizzas on the island of Alameda. Happy Hour oyster is $12/dozen. Either Olympia or Kumamoto from Oregon. 1 lb wings tossed in Calabrian chile glaze with garlic buttermilk dipping sauce was my favorite. Pappardelle with lamb & pork ragu was a signature dish, the pasta cooked al dente, just like in Italy. Oxtails risotto and wood oven half chicken were outstanding. My service professional Anne well-trained from the old school with attention to detail, very attentive, and courteous. The menu changed often. Kids friendly!

The food was outstanding, the service was outstanding, and the vibe, you guessed it, was outstanding. Everything I had here was so amazing. The waiter was very, very nice and helpful. The pizza was by far the best pizza I’ve had on the west coast. If you are in Alameda go to this restaurant, you won’t regret it!
I'm visiting from the East Coast and have tried many different cuisines since arriving. We arrived on a Wed night, and it was fairly busy, but we're seated right away. Very cool little pizza place serving very delicious pizza! (They also offer pasta) Thin crust and the freshest ingredients! Our waiter John was very attentive without being overbearing. Prices were reasonable. I would definitely recommend it!
Service was on top, food was excellent, prices were reasonable. A great dining experience for the cost. Most everything made from scratch, including the pasta. Only complaint is it was a bit bare inside. Make it more cozy and I'll give ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So I live across the street from east end had went in once with my family 4 months ago . The service was great and the pizza was just awesome but I had not gone back only because of a busy life so tonight I was feeling a pizza but not the basic out there chain food pizza I wanted something different so I thought I would order and I was not disappointed.the flavors are just so good it’s not a dry crust thick pizza with everything just thrown on top and baked. The toppings are flavorful the crust is thin and it was just the best pizza I have ever had . Place is my new spot for pizza . They have allot of options. I try not to eat pizza allot so it will be hard not to order everyday lol

Best real pizza in Alameda. Worth the extra cost for a traditional East Coast pie. Not $20 for most. We get traditional pie with pepperoni for $16. Please eat it there hot. But, we do go elsewhere when the gang is coming in and quantity is more important than quality.
This place was recently written up in Sunset magazine and we were in Alameda running some errands to decided to check it out. We didn't have a reservation but we were able to get a seat within 10 minutes which was great. Everything about the place was great besides the Arugula salad which we both thought lacked any real flavor. The Mousetrap pizza with Prosccuitto was really good though. Cool spot in Alameda with good pizza and drinks.
You know, this place deserves five stars. It's just that... THE PLACE IS PACKED on weekend nights. They take reservations now though so thatsnhuge and a must to get in on a Friday or Saturday. Best pizza in a 100 miles, great sides, apps are elegant, oysters are amazing and cheap on Tuesdays. Atmosphere is alive with people enjoying themselves in conversation. The staff are handsome and very attentive and accommodating. The kitchen is part of the dining room and the pizza dough flies high. Lots of lovely cocktails and a variety of intoxicants always makes for a great dining experience. A must go...
Bar tenders were funny, and made great drinks. They have a good selection of draught beers, some local. The pizza had wonderful thin crust and there's a dollar an oyster happy hour late on Tuesdays. What's not to love?
This place needs air conditioning, the patrons' b.o. is an unpleasant miasma
Creative pizzas with daily specials written on the board. I love thin crust pizza! The sauce here is good, crust could be a little better, but overall a quality pizza that is my go to spot in Alameda. It's also right next to the Feel Good Bakery, which is a plus. They also serve cocktails and good ones at that. Save room for dessert too! The deconstructed s'more is yummy!
Good pizza and great cocktails. People say its expensive, but its no more expensive than Pizza Delfina. Quality of ingredients are good. Also surprisingly they had good cocktails here too. The bathroom was interesting, since you need to ask someone for a token to avoid paying a quarter to use it. - Get the diablita - was very tasty.
We've been here twice now, and really enjoyed the food and service. Servers are always nice and competent, food is consistently delicious and prepared well. Both the pasta (papardelle with ragu) and vegetable sides (in winter it was Brussels sprouts, and in spring we had asparsgus with salt cured egg yolk) were perfectly made. Our Neapolitan style pizzas came with thin yet substantial and satisfactorily chewy crusts, the toppings were generous and evenly distributed, and we thoroughly enjoyed each meal here. Definitely worth repeated trips!
Pizza was good, lots of vegetarian options which I appreciate. Think but tasty and delicious. Good price. Took about 1 hour to make so order before you get hungry. No delivery option available, at least not on site.
Pizza and salad done right, healthy and delicious! I enjoyed the healthier pizza toppings and thin crust. Will try again earlier so we can pick from all of the menu items!

Service was friendly and elegant. Food and cocktails are good quality and creative. Pizza crust and house made pasta are tasty, though the desserts are a bit too sweet. It can be a bit loud when crowded with a soaring ceiling and many hard surfaces. No paper menus; you have to use a QR code to look at the DoorDash app then tell the server your order. I get that this is a cheaper way to update the menu, but it’s really tacky at this price point and level of service.
Pizza was enjoyable and well seasoned. What I can’t get past is that it was $6 for three tiny garlic knots and a surprise extra $3 for marinara that the server asked if we wanted. It should come with it and definitely should not cost half of what the knots cost.

This is the second time we got pizzas to go. The first time was very disappointing, especially for the price. We chalked it off to a bad night. The 2nd and most recent was even more disappointing. $ 53 for 2 of the skimpiest pizzas I’ve yet to see anywhere. Neither lived up to their online descriptions. Paid extra for sausage which consisted of 6 pieces the size of my little finger nail. I was very embarrassed when I brought them to our friends who were also quite underwhelmed and vowed never to recommend them. Maybe a change of ownership? Anyway, never again!! Too many other choices around town.
The food was fine, but nothing special. Prices are high (as everything in the Bay Area), they require customers to use a QR code for orders, and they won't make your favorite cocktails if it is not on their menu (even if it is something basic and they have the ingredients)
The last time I ate at East End was back in 2014. The Carbonara with vermicelli pasta and whole egg was the best Carbonara I've ever eaten. Last Sunday, I ordered the same dish to go. It's been over 11 years since I've eaten this dish so of course I expected nothing but the best and had high hopes. The Carbonara was nothing like I remembered it being. The pork pancetta was overcooked and lacked flavor. It was really hard and chewy. It didn't taste good at all. The vermicelli noodles were clumped together and plopped out like a solid hard brick when I went to go reheat it. The sauce was spicy and peppery which was different and I don't remember the sauce being that spicy back in the day. It definitely had a kick to it but not in a good way. The pasta was dry. Overall, the Carbonara pasta dish failed in many ways. Maybe the Carbonara would taste better if I ate at the restaurant instead of ordering it to go. I would never order this pasta dish to go and I don't recommend you doing so either. Look at the pictures of the pasta dish and be the judge for yourself. BTW, the Carbonara was close to $30, which was outrageous considering the fact that it was way less than perfect.

I used to love this place so much, they have great food and drinks, especially the pizza. But I had an awful experience with their happy hour oysters. Literally the last oyster I had tasted like something rotten that could have washed up on Crown Memorial Beach. I almost threw up. I stuffed fries down my mouth to get rid of the rancid, rotten taste. I told the wait staff, but I could tell they didn't really believe me. Their answer was...wait for it... another, single oyster to replace the rotten one. Just awful. I spent the whole night anxious that I caught norovirus or vibrio. I guess it's my fault for having cheap oysters during the off season. Beware that the happy hour oysters are 12 for $12 for a reason.
went there twice. first time, sat at the bar and had some drinks and apps - they were ok. those who raved about cocktails didn't venture much - this place wouldn't last in the city. went there to try pizza the second time. the staff were unhappy and we weren't getting any service. we got up and left. it may make sense for the locals to be supportive. . .but this is not a destination.
So underwhelming given the rave reviews and high prices. We ordered the "farmer's daughter" pizza: it feels like so much effort was put into waffling the zucchini and squash, but it just didn't pay off. The squash was too watery, and without a tomato base nothing on the pizza added the necessary acidic balance to the fattiness of the cheese and meat. The "house made" Italian sausage was missing the texture and flavor of good Italian sausage and was just such a pitiful quantity for four extra dollars. The best part of the pizza was the crust, but it just wasn't enough to save it, especially given the price. The salad was worse. Again the portion was disappointing for the price, and I could hardly taste a hint of anchovy in the Caesar dressing, which is the central ingredient to a good Caesar dressing. Overall I see a lot of effort being put into making this food fancy, but when any mom and pop joint out east could outdo this for less than a quarter of the price, I just can't get behind the food here.
Food is pretty much average fare but overpriced. Service is uppity as hell, which is so weird. You're not in SF stop acting like it.
My partner and I enjoy the pizza from East End, but have deicided to BoyCott ordering To Go pizza. We live in West Oakland and by the time pizza gets here its cold. We always have to reheat everything. Seems like Indoor dining could have opened a long time ago. We have done order at the window a few times! The Hipster douchbag behind the cash register always seems so put-out by any questions about the food, pizza and indoor dining. Plus its very expensive for such a small pizza!
The ambience is too noisy. We tried the risotto and it didn't have any flavor, the Parmesan cheese is from bags, already shredded. The chicken wings had a lot of ketchup, personally I don't like them that way. Not worth it. Finally the flatware looks from the flea market. I'm pretty sure they can do better than that.
