Opinions de Moxie Steakhouse Alameda
Great family restaurant. The steak and lamb were cooked perfectly. Great side dishes too! They also have a wonderful selection of wines. Slightly noisy when full but you can still hear your own conversation without screaming at each other. If you haven't been and want a great steak dinner, check them out.
Outstanding cocktails, prompt service, but most importantly: fantastic protein! Australian lamb chops feel right at home here and (local) fillet mignon delighted my wife (most discerning of meat eaters). Whimsy potatoe and caviar pairing served on top of a sweet beet puree got this Ukrainian's vote.
This place is amazing! The service is top notch! My favorite bar tender is Roy can make a mean cocktail! That rib eye steak is outstanding so tender and juicy! This is my favorite date night spot. They also have happy hour and specialty donuts on the weekend! Check em out!!!
The food, the drinks, and the service were amazing. It was a little quiet and interesting music, but the space was nice. The tomahawk steak was so tender and with the flaky salt on it... chef's kiss! The drinks were really good! I got Mind Over Matter (the tequila cocktail). Will definitely be back to try more of the side dishes.
Lovely nice decor and great service here! I am impressed by the table service Cesar Salad was made from scratch and Yes! The dressing was made from scratch! Great cocktail selections too. Decent quality beef. Very important - the desserts are the best of best! Not too sweet and fresh house made strawberry short cake made my day and ended perfectly.
Date night at Moxie was incredible, loved our steaks and service! Super classy place imo. The apple and cabbage dish was a huge miss for us and would not order again. Everything else stellar espevially the truffle butter✨️ $240 for 2 people with tax + tip
Moxie Steakhouse serves high-quality food with more than just great steaks! The vegetarian options are absolutely delicious, and the staff is super nice and welcoming. It was a great place to celebrate our friend’s birthday—warm atmosphere and great service all around!
Twice visited now, I’ve been here once in the evening and once for brunch and both times I’ve sat at the bar counter with friends where I’ve enjoyed the delightful presence of the bartender (whose name is Kat if I recall correctly?). The food is put together with a great deal of care and attention (you can watch them at work from a barstool position) and is thoroughly satisfying. I loved the potato, caviar salmon and egg dish and I wolfed it down, the only slight disappointment was that the crispy potatoes weren’t at all crispy but the flavor profile was on point so I enjoyed it anyway. My friend was raving about her asparagus toast with poached eggs (I’m getting that next time) and her pistachio doughnut. On our evening visit a few weeks earlier we enjoyed a selection of vegetarian appetizers all of which we loved aside from a pilaf pastry dish which had a filling too unusually-flavored for our palettes. I don’t drink much, but when I do have a glass, I want it to be a crisp, dry, cold glass of bubbly wine in a worthy stem and Moxie certainly delivers on that. Thank you! We’ll be back!
Simple.. if you haven’t eaten here- you should make it a priority. The owner is humble, brilliant, and super talented knowing just exactly what you need and how you want it done. I had the tomahawk tonight and it was perfection. Cooked just like I asked, didn’t take that long, and the fat complimented the meat divinely. I can’t say enough about #Moxie - you have to experience it for yourself!
I was a big fan of Donna’s cooking and pastries at Little a house and eagerly awaited Moxie. It’s absolutely delicious, and the best date night/special occasion restaurant on Park street. You can tell the food is cooked with real care and attention. Our steak was perfectly done, I like a true medium rare - most places serve Edit: they do brunch now!! And it is STELLAR. We had the home made donuts, crispy potatoes with caviar and lox, and beef hash. Everything was impeccable, wonderful service, no notes! it like it’s medium these days. The starters and sides were treated with equal skill. The interior ambiance is gorgeously done, it is located in a sort of strip mall type building but the interior is totally custom and classy as hell. I only wish they did brunch :)
Everything was delicious! A party of seven and everyone was happy and satisfied. RUN to Moxie, you will not be disappointed! I had 7oz lobster with asparagus and mashed potatoes….I wanted to lick the plate! The chocolate mousse was also good.

Had an amazing dinner with my girlfriend there tonight. Small cute intimate old fashion steakhouse more ideal for date night away from the kids. Food was amazing and perfect and recommendations for wine pairing were spot on. Our server liz was sweet and knowledgeable about the menu; the salmon special was definitely the star of the show along with the delicious donuts for dessert . Would 100% come back again. Only complaint wasn't with the establishment but with another couple customers that were fighting with the staff. But even with the commotion service continued perfectly and unfazed. Good job to you guys for holding it down!
Loved my experience at Moxie Steakhouse! The staff was warm and attentive, the food was top-notch, and every drink was mixed to perfection. Everything came out flavorful and beautifully prepared. I didn’t get a chance to try their desserts, but I saw them being served to other guests and they looked amazing — I’ll definitely be trying them next time. I highly recommend you check it out!
The (wheelchair accessible) outdoor seating is not fully covered, and there are no outdoor heaters, but since the weather was great, we didn’t care this time. Moxie has fun fresh donuts and delicious seasonal mocktails, and is perfect for warm autumn weekends. There is some unavoidable road noise and pedestrian traffic. While technically Moxie is a steakhouse, I’ve never had a steak here because the rest of the menu is so compelling. It’s one of my favorite restaurants in Alameda.
This place is amazing!!! Worth every penny!!! We started with the Caesar salad for 2, mains were ribeye and chicken pot pie w/truffles - that we split. Cousin had rice pilaf as side. The home fried chips on the table were lightly salted and very fresh. If I could give Chef Donna and her crew 10 stars - I totally would do so!!! They deserve 10 stars!!! I chatted with her after our meal and told her she needed to write a cookbook - it would definitely be a Best Seller!!! The raspberry butter cookies at the end were delectable!!! Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavors were out of this world!!! Cousin and I are going back to try everything on the menu!!! Sorry - no pictures - I was enjoying every morsel. Add the bleu cheese butter if you are having a steak!!! Wonderful, wonderful dinner!!!
What a great place. The asparagus soup was delicious and the Caesar salad was perfect. We all had filets and they were perfect. The house steak sauce was excellent. The sides, mashed potatoes and creamed spinach were both excellent. The wine list is modest, but the prices are surprisingly reasonable. And the service was outstanding. Highly recommend!

We had a blast here at Moxie!! The staff was amazing, everyone we spoke to. Including Donna who told us about the plants on the wall and how she takes care of them. Everything we ordered was delicious. Wish we had tried more we shared everything, ordered 2 sides and the cesar and split a steak and desert and were stuffed. Will definitely be back for our next date night!!
I tried this place tonight with my wife and we mostly loved our experience. Since this place is new with little to no reviews so far I would like to give everyone my honest opinion of it. The decor and atmosphere is very trendy and cozy, respectively. I made a reservation for 7:30 and arrived 15 minutes late due to unforeseen traffic. It took a couple minutes before we were greeted, and a few more minutes before being seated. Our waitress, Jenna, was very friendly and courteous. She graciously answered all of our questions regarding dietary restrictions. She adequately checked in on us periodically. While the menu is small, I did wish it was a little more precise. For example the raw oysters starter doesn't list how many you get per order which is half a dozen. The menu also states crab cakes - with an S which implies plurality; but you only get (1) one crab cake. Lastly the menu offers "romano beans" but in reality they're just green beans. Romano beans are similar but definitely not green beans. We ordered: the crab cake"s" , the table side Caesar salad for two, ribeye - medium rare, potato dauphinoise, portobello steak, and the "Romano beans". The crab cake"s" was well done. We always order crab cakes when available and this was exceptional. The crab was fresh and flaky, and the aioli sauce was divine. Probably my most favorite part of the meal. The table side Caesar salad was neat but the process could be improved. I witnessed ours being made and again for another table. I think they could prepare the cart better with the utensils and plates as both preps required the server to step away to grab some additional items. Additionally the lettuce was washed but not adequately dried beforehand. As the server put the lettuce into the dressing, I saw excess water from the plate go into the dressing. Considering the dressing is egg and oil, adding water (however inadvertently) isn't conducive to a cohesive salad. Overall the salad was tasty and despite my nitpicking I still enjoyed the demonstration. Lastly the entrees and sides. My ribeye was seasoned extremely well and had an amazing crust. I opted for the bleu cheese butter with my steak, and Jenna melted the cheese butter with a handheld torch. The ribeye was cooked perfectly to medium rare, and I enjoyed every bite of it. The potato dauphinoise was good but very hearty. For those unaware dauphinoise is like au gratin style. While I personally enjoy the cheesy potatoes, some might find it a little too oily from the baked cheese. My wife got the portobello steak which was a grilled portobello mushroom on top of a serving of what I assumed was diced sauteed mushrooms. Basically a mushroom lover's paradise. She also added the Asian chimichurri sauce. It had great seasoning and wasn't overcooked which tends to be the case with a lot of portobello dishes. The chimichurri sauce was fine, nothing inspiring. Despite her disappointment the "Romano beans" were well cooked with a good snap, and well seasoned. She did say it could use more spice. We took a look at the dessert menu but it's just vanilla soft serve with a choice of toppings. I opted to pass so I can't comment on it. Overall my wife and I enjoyed our dinner but it's clear they're still working out the kinks of being a new restaurant. We would definitely come back. Despite my criticism Moxie is a great idea for those who love a good steak but without the pretentiousness of high end steak houses. I hope they continue to improve their service and stick around for a long while. Absolutely a great addition to Alameda dining.
I had brunch here. Pretty place, great service. Food was kind of lacking at this price point. Cappuccino tasted burnt. Steak and eggs was great, and I really liked the potato donuts, haven't had anything like it. They're like fluffy airy mashed potatoes with a crispy outside. Beef hash was okay. The banana flambe pancake included rum which was not listed on the menu, I wouldn't have ordered that if I knew since I don't like rumcake. But the parts of it without syrup were fluffy and good. But as an 'experience' gimmick food it was lacking. Like 2 seconds of tiny flames lol. Don't bother at that point, just give me the pancake haha. But the rum was also overpowering even for my husband who likes rum cake. It just pools up on the side of the plate.

the food and service is okay , don’t expect it to be the best. the lobster tail was very low quality and i wouldn’t recommend it. the steak was okay not the best. the food took a while to come out and we were one of the first tables to arrive. The server for our table wasn’t really the best, she came to take our order and give the food but that was it. She was too busy with the table next to us, when we needed her attention and service.
It's almost a 4star. I ordered the huge Tomahawk steak which they said they serve med-rare, and that was my preferred doneness level. Also, mashed potatoes and a cocktail. For a med-rare Wagyu Tomahawk, cook time was 45 minutes. The cocktail (prosecco with almond syrup) was delicious, and I would have liked to order an additional but different cocktail to fill the 45 minute wait, but the cocktail menu was quite short. I would like to see even more interesting cocktails on the menu. Tomahawk steak arrived pre-sliced! 😱☹️ I was in total shock, expecting the drama and fun of the huge Tomahawk. Apparently, according to the internet, many restaurants serve this amazing steak pre-sliced, but had I known this, would have asked for it unsliced. It looked like cuts of thin prime rib. So VERY disappointed!! Really, there is no good reason to pre-slice a Tomahawk. It gets cold quickly, juices run out, a chef should know how to judge doneness without slicing into it, really -- no reason. It was excellent steak, very tasty and tender, and I loved the creamy horseradish sauce I ordered. Still, they should have asked me before deciding to butcher it. Service (except for the above) was excellent. It's a quiet place. Reservations strongly encouraged. I left with a doggy bag that included the bone. Can't wait to gnaw on it.
Atmosphere is fantastic. Cocktails were top notch. All staff members we encountered were friendly and helpful. Steak was great. But the timing needs a lot of work. We waited more than an hour from finishing our starter to receiving entrees.
