Best neighborhood pho place; the pho is multilayered with just the right balance of spices and a good dose of salt. Great for post-run sustenance or if you have a cold. Good vermicelli bowls and rice plates, too. Always busy with all kinds of people, so you don't have to take the word of a white lady that it's pretty darn good. Plus, it's an old Sizzler, and they've done pretty well in converting it, but you can still see a little bit of the old Sizzler underneath. I love how our neighborhoods evolve.
After getting off work early, I was treated to lunch here. We were seated immediately on arrival. Not very busy. We enjoyed the chicken wing appetizer. I ordered the beef plate. Dee-Licious. Would definitely return.
I go here regularly, so it's about time I left a review. They are great, best food in the area and the staff are always nice. I'm addicted to the spring rolls, and still trying out the rest of the menu, but everything has tasted great so far. If you dine in, it's really pretty inside too, totally worth trying out of you haven't.
One of my favorite Vietnamese spots in the Bay Area (along with Tay Ho in Oakland). The food here is consistently fresh and flavorful, and the pho broth always has that deep, complex taste that’s hard to find. I’ve been coming here since 2012 and have never had a bad dish. On top of that, the family who runs it are some of the kindest people you’ll meet.
Excellent, fast moving, Big League Vietnamese food, with a huge menu, great staff, and a lot of specials you will not find in other Vietnamese restaurants. This is a great place to deviate from your normal routine, and try some different dishes, that you've never tried before. You won't be disappointed! Try the #D Nem Nuong Nha Trang- “Nha Trang” Style Grilled Pork Spring Rolls
We were almost at the time they close but they attended us in a very friendly way. It was worth since the food is incredible
Absolutely love this spot. The pho, spring rolls, egg rolls are all fantastic. Love the coconut juice that goes well with the food. Spacious restaurant, great service, and reasonable prices. My boyfriend and I love this spot so much we eat here almost every week!
Best Vietnamese Restaurant in the East Bay. Food is amazing, service is great. Best place in rainy Bay Area Winter !
So good to take in some pho on cold nights or feeling under the weather. These broths will bring you to life! Nice service and relaxed atmosphere.
Very beautiful location parking is in the back of the restaurant. Restaurant looked clean food was really well and service was really fast definitely check it out and really good recommendation for a good pho.
So I used to come here a lot before the pandemic. I finally returned here to try the pho again once more. Let's just say I finished my bowl again lol. This pho restaurant has amazing broth and options. I usually get the chicken pho or beef ball. It always delicious here. The service was wonderful. I will come back again when I get the chance again. Thank you Ao Sen Albany!
Was invited by my friends to try this place I heard it had great Vermecelli with Pork and it does not dissapoint. If I remember correctly number 38 was the best vermecelli they had and not only that the egg roll and chicken wings as the sides are simply something to seek for. The chicken wings are simply juicy and has crispy skin with some sweet notes while the egg roll has some savory flavour. Highly reccomend!!!
Delicious food. Great service. Food was fresh and came out quickly.
Great Pho place in Albany with reasonable price. The food is delicious with great serving, you typically only need to wait < 10 mins before your order is ready. There is parking next to the restaurant. Also, the atmosphere is great and the staff are really nice.
Pho family favorite! Every time we are in town we come straight to this place. Staff are so family friendly. Food has been amazing for the past 6 years; never disappoints! My go to is their Pho Chin, Nam, Ve Don which is Well-done brisket, well-done flank, and crunchy flank with extra lime squeezed. Everything is so fresh and homemade is at their best! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Overall great spot for Vietnamese food. Fresh and delicious. I like how they have a small bowl of broth on the side for their rice plates. It's a perfect pairing. The spring rolls are on point as well.
Really good food, portions and friendly service. We really like the Bun Cha Hanoi and would come back again for $18-19 per person. Great portions with plenty of meat, veggies and vegetables. This is one of the best Vietnamese places I gave eaten that is great quality, value and atmosphere. Highly recommend. The Che Thai dessert is pretty good too and not too sweet 😀
Albany Ao Sen easily serves up some of the best pho I’ve had in the Oakland area—rich, flavorful, and incredibly satisfying. The broth is packed with depth, and every bite feels comforting and authentic. On top of that, the wait staff is friendly and attentive, making the whole dining experience feel smooth and welcoming. The food comes out impressively fast, which is perfect when you’re craving something warm and delicious. And don’t sleep on the spicy marinated chicken—it’s a hidden gem on the menu that deserves way more attention. Bold, juicy, and perfectly seasoned. Highly recommend!
big space inside, sometimes you can get lost if you are seated in the corners, but thats okay cause the food comes out quick and its a lot of food, i love the only vegan option they have, 10/10
I would highly recommend this place. If you want a great appetizer, I would recommend the spicy fried chicken wing. Also, love the combo rice plate if you feel you want some variety and satisfaction. Of course the Pho, Bun Bo Hue, and Vietnames beef stew are all amazing. Make sure to have room, the portions are pretty large 😀.
I came here for a quick lunch and asked how long it would take to order a rice plate. My server told me about 6 to 8 minutes. My dish came out under 5 minutes. It delicious and the bowl of pho broth was very tasty. I will be returning and I highly recommend this place if you want Vietnamese food!
first of all beautiful presentation I got the vegetarian option which was very refreshing and very tasty. The fake beef was 10 out of 10 super yummy. amazing customer service. The lady was very helpful while ordering overall nice lady. highly recommend. me personally I’m picky when it comes to cooked vegetables, but these were the best I’ve ever had definitely go check out.
Service was extremely fast and friendly, our food was out in less than ten minutes. All the food was delicious! The pho and bun bo hue portions were very large. They have a parking lot in the back
I was traveling and craving a good bowl of pho when I randomly came across this spot and decided to stop in. Super convenient parking right out front, service was fast, and the food—absolutely amazing. Wish I lived closer, because this would definitely be a regular go-to for me.

Fantastic spot for Pho! Had at our table spring rolls, pho, and the pho stew. All were amazing! Both the pho and stew had very flavorful broth with fresh ingredients. Service was good and friendly. Very enjoyable!
Very pleased with the freshness of the ingredients - sorry I wolfed it down before I took a picture, but this was the vegetarian bun (bowl). Also delicious fresh coconut juice! I think this venue used to be a Sizzler? Anyway, it’s large yet quiet with plenty of room - I had a comfortable booth to myself. Will be back to try the pho.
Ao Sen is consistently delicious at anytime of the day. The veggie rolls are a must and then you can’t go wrong with any of their hearty soups. It has a very mellow and inviting atmosphere making it a top spot in Albany!
Nice pho restaurant. I often come here after a night of heavy drinking, when I’m craving a warm bowl of soup. Compared to other pho places in Albany/Berkeley, their dishes are cheaper and come with more meat. One hidden gem on the menu is the Korean short rib—very smoky and flavorful.
My family (2 small kids included) and I go here often. The staff is sweet to our messy children and they are fast and kind. The big win for this restaurant is their Korean style beef short ribs- they are so incredibly good. Crispy charred at the edges, juicy, sweet, savory- they are excellent. I think this is a hidden secret in the east bay- this dish typically goes for $15-20 more at other places than what Au Sen charges and those other places don’t come near to the flavor and quantity. We so love their fried egg rolls and pho tai. Everything we’ve had is great there!
Very tasty chicken pho, quick service. Quiet enough to talk easily, but not unpleasantly silent. A good place to meet with friends.

Pretty convenient place in Albany right on San Pablo ave. We were apartment hunting all day and had a gap between viewings so walked right into Ao Sen. The biggest negative was AC malfunctioning on the hottest day of the month :( so that was brutal. Food is good though. We enjoyed the fresh shrimp rolls, beef pho and pork vermicelli bowl. Yum. Service is prompt. Bathrooms are clean.
Visited on a weekday for lunch, and it turned out to be a great choice! I ordered the supreme bowl, while my partner went for the beef ball one, I believe. The restaurant has ample seating, making it easy to find a spot. The soup was delicious, and the portion size was generous; my bowl was so big I couldn't finish it all. A perfect spot for a hearty weekday lunch. As a sweet ending, I tried the dessert featuring mung bean, red bean, and coconut. It was undeniably good, with a delightful sweetness. However, as you indulge more, it does lean on the sweeter side. I'd recommend a smaller serving size to fully savor the flavors without it becoming overwhelming. Despite the sweetness, the dessert added a delightful touch to the overall dining experience. A great spot for a satisfying meal, just be mindful of the dessert sweetness!
I've been eating at this location for around a decade, and this is definitely one of my comfort restaurants. I always order either #1 to #5 pho bowls, and they're all amazing and intensely flavorful (in a good way). The spring rolls are delicious as well! The food also does come out pretty fast, which is impressive; it's a less than ten minute wait. There is a bathroom near the entrance and a few tvs, plus i think a fish or two. The atmosphere is kind of cozy, and they're always playing on the radio 96.5 KOIT! This place is a bit expensive but I do recommend it! Hope you have a great time there!
One of my goto pho places around Berkeley. The foods are always on point except today. The pho we had was still good, but it just didn't taste as great as it had before. I still like this place and will continue to go back, but I hope the foods won't continue the downward spiral and instead go back to were it once was!
Very spacious, casual, clean, and attached parking lot. Pho was good. Only complaint was that the viet ice coffee was like 90% ice. Ended up finishing that before the food arrived.

Go to pho spot in the area. Super large seating and generally very clean every time we go. I usually go with the #39 which comes with egg rolls and they are the best!! I wish they had a complete lighter options though because I come here all the time with family and sometimes I’m personally not that hungry and feel bad not finishing the full plate.

Their pho is slightly better than average. My parents thought it was a bit salty. I thought it was slightly overpriced. For a slightly more expensive bowl, I was still hungry after finishing. I think I had maybe 3 or 4 pieces of meat. Even my mom was able to finish her bowl, which she almost never does for an average bowl. We went at opening so we were waited on fairly quickly. Their service staff was good. They even gave us a set of small plates and bowls, and food scissors once they saw we entered with our toddler. They have a lot of space, with several tables. The space is close to immaculate. If it gets really busy, they have a large seated waiting area. Their parking lot is also large.

Their bo bia is... confusing... long thin slices of jicama in the middle. a layer of some kinda confusing sweet fishy flaky something under the sausage slices.... Thai basil (which is fine) fried egg (which is fine) and the Chinese sausage, which is really thinly sliced and not browned at all. :/ the result was a really weird taste and texture. would not recommend :( the weirdest part was the fish paste, which on further investigation was actually made up of lots of tiny shrimp 😓😓😓
