Loveliest people there - thank you so much <3
They make a mean Pina Colada. Tell everyone you know about Lupe’s. They rock.
Legitimately god-tier Mexican. Service is slow, but food and the prices behind it make the value proposition well worth.
We ordered three vegetarian dishes - a chili Verda plate, a veggie burrito, and papa’s original. Delicious. The flan at the end was great too.
Love love love Lupe’s - been going there for years. It’s a go to for Mex when below 14th St … Great little spot, Food is great - depending on the time of day typically I’ll either get the huevos rancheros or a Super veg Burrito - guac is fantastic and the salsa is spot on! Which stuff is super friendly and food comes quick but even if it takes a little longer because it’s busy, it’s worth the wait
Amazing place to get some authentic Mexican food. Loved the laidback vibe. They have pretty nice menu. Something for everyone. To my surprise they have delicious vegetarian and vegan options. Price is very reasonable by New York standard. They have both outdoor and indoor seating, depending on weather one can enjoy either. I can definitely recommend vegetarian burritos.
Cute little Mexican diner. Good food with homemade flavor. Great ambiance and fast, friendly service. Strong drinks.
I finally made it to Lupe's! Their Pork burrito makes for an enjoyable lunch. The scene is very laid-back. Very hospitable. Cold beer. Definitely to return.
Love this place! The drinks are amazing and, mind you, it's not easy to find a really good Margarita these days. Food is always great, whatever you get on the menu. Staff are always nice as well. So go there, it's a win-win-win and then some.
If want an authentic slice of California culture, check out Lupe's. The vibe is chill like you've been invited to a favored corner restaurant run by your aunt. The drinks are strong and tasty, the food straightforward in flavor with proportions that are large enough to be filling without being overwhelming. If you're a vegan there's a large selection to choose from. I had a blueberry margarita on the rocks and one that was frozen - both were wonderful. Most Mexican food places in Manhattan are fusion or Tex-Mex - this restaurant felt like waiting after school at my grandmothers house for food to be ready. Indoor/outdoor seating makes for an enjoyable experience for a group of people or enjoying a meal alone. I didn't see any families for brunch but lots of conversations happened around inside the restaurant. The waiters were attentive and friendly without being overbearing, making eating alone enjoyable rather than strange.
I’ve been going to Lupe’s for over 5 years now. The staff is lovely, food is always fresh, and the guacamole is amazing. I always have a good time dining here. Their drinks are also tasty and refreshing. I always recommend the sangria.
Always dependable for excellent Mexican cuisine! Very casual place, with inside and outside seating. Friendly staff and a large selection of delicious menu items. Always a pleasure to visit!
The neighborhood eats here. We’ve been eating at Lupe’s about once a week since it opened back in the 80’s. The staff is great and they’ve been working there for years. It’s not like any other version of Mexican food I’m aware of—it’s its own cuisine. It’s our comfort food. Unpretentious, affordable, delicious, friendly.
Lupe’s is outstanding. Quick, reasonably priced, tasty, big portions AND they have vegan options! I’ve only gotten to try the blueberry margarita, which I loved. Serving guacamole over a bed of lettuce and tomato is a nice touch, too.
My truly best neighborhood restaurant for perfect lunch or dinner. The food is delicious, great vibe and perfect people around! Must try if you are in Soho ! Everything is so fresh and yummy, staff is amazing!
Lupe’s is iconic. It’s been holding down the western edge of soho for years, and has diehard regulars as well as fun newbies. I’ve seen David Byrne and Patti Smith, and Mike Myers come and go. Friday nights they sometimes host game nights. It’s the perfect place for an early eve drink and bite, or late night landing spot. They have a legit selection of tequila and mezcal, and amazing drinks. Love it!
I've been eating at Lupe's since I was a kid and it's consistently amazing. Their burritos are in my Top 3 favorite dishes in the city and I've taken countless friends, from NYC and out of town, to eat here; every single one of them has been thoroughly impressed and now immediately suggests Lupe's when we hang out. Their fresh juices are also incredible, as well as their plantains and homemade chips and salsa. I can't say I've tried a lot of their menu as I mostly stick to burritos and brunch dishes (they're too good to ever experiment with other things!) but my friends have also really enjoyed the enchiladas and nachos. Oh, and they're very vegan friendly and decently gluten-free friendly!
Delicious. If we lived here this would be a regular stop. Veggie burrito was excellent.
Amazing staff, amazing food, amazing drinks!!! We just love coming back to this place despite moving to a completely different state.
Excellent little Mexican place, we come every time we're in the city. The food is top-notch and the servers are always so friendly and fast. The sidewalk seating is the best, of course, and they have a little wooden structure to keep the rain off. It's always kinda hot inside, so we always get a seat on the sidewalk. Highly recommended for the vegetarian options, they make an incredible vegetarian chili Verde that is an amazing meat substitute on most everything they make.
Such good food and good prices. Love the atmosphere, the staff are lovely, and the quality of the meal was outstanding. Really enjoyed my experience here!
Our favourite restaurant in NYC! We’re visiting from the UK and stumbled upon this lovely restaurant while in Soho. The atmosphere is great, the staff are super friendly and the food is amazing! We visited twice in the week that we were in NY and will be back on our next trip for sure. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a great spot in the city! ❤️
Great local spot with a warm staff, great food and the best spicy margarita and michelada in NYC. Feels like home.
Love Lupe’s good easy spot for groups or anyone. Affordable and good.
Love Lupe’s. Great corner location and outdoor seating. Feels like you’re at a great local diner. Always a seat and always amazing service. Drinks are great as is the food. Cannot recommend the Chili Colorado enough
Great authentic Mexican restuarant feel. They can make most anything vegan with options of vegan cheese, sour cream and faux meats. Portions are great service is friendly.
Great inexpensive place. Drinks are excellent, bar staff solid and the food high quality
I went to buy beers to go and I stopped a while at the bar for a tequila wich was great! The day after I did the same. Also I forgot a bag there and the day after I asked For it, they kept for me! Great, amazing. Very nice people and nice drinks! 5 stars
Came here for lunch. I had their vegan tamales dish. It was very filling and very good. The horchata is missing something. I would definitely return and try another dish.
This is an amazing authentic Mexican restaurant right in Soho! The service is great and they are passionate about what they do. The food is delicious! And the portions are great for what you pay for. They even have happy hour for their cocktails! I loved that they had a good selection of vegetarian options and we found a spacious seating area with no wait when we walked in on a Saturday evening.
cute spot! the taquitos and fried fish tacos were amazing, best chips and salsa! amazing service, kind staff :)
I had the most delightful experience at Lupe’s! The restaurant’s cozy decor and light, breezy atmosphere create a welcoming escape in the heart of NYC. Salvator, my server, offered spot-on recommendations, guiding me to try the chile rellenos—which were absolutely to die for! The house-made guacamole and salsa were incredibly fresh, and I finished the meal with a heavenly flan. Salvator was not only knowledgeable but also wonderfully warm, making me feel like we were old friends catching up. Lupe’s long-standing presence in the city shines through in every detail. I can’t recommend this gem enough!
I went to Lupe’s today for the first time with my friends and it is hands down the most authentic Mexican food I’ve found in NYC. Everything was so amazing from their house made Horchata to the Chicken Quesadilla. The fried plantains are to die for, and the Mexican hot chocolate is insanely delicious. Miguel and Francisco were so kind and sweet to us!! Definitely coming back soon. :)
Loved my Mexican themed brunch at this 35 year old SoHo Institution last week. Everything is super fresh and homemade. Absolutely devoured the shrimp fajitas and quesadilla The vibes are super chill and the menu is East L.A. themed with an assortment of brunch classics and some of their house specials like the fajitas and an array of tacos and burritos.
I was looking for a spot where I could gather a few friends for my birthday and have a margarita and something affordable to eat, somewhere that felt good to be in and fun but not so loud we couldn’t hear each other. Had an amazing time last night. The team was lovely, the food was amazing, and the space was cozy, cool, casual but beautiful
We had to try Lupe's for a post-movie dinner -- the neon sign was so inviting! There was a birthday party taking up a few tables in the cozy space, but we were seated promptly. Solid atmosphere, service, food, and prices.
I had to swing by Lupe's while I was doing some Mr. Robot related sight seeing. The food was fantastic and the portion size was great. House marg was nice, too! By the time I was done with my meal there were a bunch of people waiting to be seated, so I'm guessing it's a local fave. I can see why! Luckily for me, the Dark Army was nowhere to be found. RIP Cisco.
Tried Lupe’s for the first time today. I work in the area and wanted something over a corner bodega. I dropped in at lunch time and ordered chicken enchiladas. Enchiladas were great, but even more important, the refried beans were excellent. It’s hard to find authentic and quality refried beans in NYC. The prices were reasonable and the service was fast. I’ll check with them after work to judge their margaritas!
Our Love Story (and Margaritas) Start at Lupe’s. It’s time to write a review for the most important restaurant in Soho NYC to me and my husband. Lupe’s isn’t just a place; it’s where our love grew, from dating to marriage. I’ll never forget how, when my husband was still my boyfriend, he’d always stop by before seeing me to grab a margarita. Three years later, it’s still his favorite bar,his ritual. After work, you’ll find him here, greeted by the kindest bartenders who treat him like family (and pour the most generous drinks). and of course the margaritas are the best in town!!! Period❤️❤️❤️ The corner spot, with its neon glow and lantern style lighting, feels like a secret hideaway romantic, cozy, and alive with energy. Summer nights on the patio under those red lights just so magic! We’ve ordered takeout many times, but tonight we sat at my favorite corner table outside and had a proper feast: the vibrant shrimp salad, crispy fish tacos, tender beef tacos, and the most perfectly cooked fish plate. And the flan? Hands down the best, tortillas are so yummy 🤤 😋 and authentic, the taste just can bring you back to Mexico! Portions are generous, flavors are bright, and everything tastes impossibly fresh, no surprise, since the entire kitchen team is from Mexico. But what makes Lupe’s special isn’t just the food or drinks,it’s the people. The staff radiates warmth, making every visit feel like coming home. You can always find the owner inside and make sure every dish and drink is perfect, so friendly to the customers. Lupe’s is the institution ❤️ Funny enough, if I ever can’t reach my husband? I know exactly where he’ll be: at Lupe’s, drink in hand, happy or (occasionally) mad at me. It’s his sanctuary. To the team: Thank you for being part of our story. Here’s to many more years of tacos, margaritas, and memories. If you love Mexican food, Soho charm, or just feeling like family, Lupe’s is your spot. It’s not just a restaurant—it’s a piece of our hearts.
Good for for a good price, really fast service. We came on a Saturday night and it was relatively quiet. We ordered the chicken mole enchiladas and the beef enchiladas. They came out so quickly! Our favorite was the beef enchiladas. Server was friendly and efficient. Overall good experience and at a great price!
Delicious! All the flavors of Mexico on top of fresh food, Mezcal, wine and beers. Salvador is amazing behind the bar and hosting. I got the Baja salad with grilled shrimp along with a Mezcal cocktail finished with a tasty Mexican hot chocolate. This spot has a very cheery fun colorful vibe. Highly recommend and I’ll be back again. Cheers to the head chef, staff and Salvador!
Rica comida Mexicana. Authentic Mexican restaurant with delicious, rich flavors. I ordered the fish tacos and beef—they were big and delicious. My friend had the spring tacos and fish tacos—she loved them. We had a spicy mezcalita. The service is very friendly, like a good old Mexican service. We sat outside and had such a good time. Inside is such a vibe.
I saw this restaurant while I was downtown one day. It had a vintage decor with neon lighting very cool. Some of the best mexican food I have had. Very tastey & not heavy the food always come quick. I always show up wanting to eat two plates and end up only being able to eat one. The portions are good and the price is great for the location.
Lupe’s is the best Mexican restaurant in SoHo. It was across the street from our hotel, so the location was perfect. Their bar is impressive with the selection of tequilas. It’s the night before my surgery, so alcohol was out of the question. We ordered their tostada salad, Chicken Mole and Chili Colorado. The salad was the perfect starter that we shared. The Chili Colorado is the perfect meal on a cold night. Served over rice, the sauce had just the right amount of spice with tender pieces of beef. Their Mole sauce is outstanding and the chicken was fall-off-the-bone tender. We are definitely planning on returning after my procedure for another delicious meal.
Lupe’s has been around forever —35 years-plus— which is the mark of quality in NYC. I eat here every chance I get and it’s one of the rare Mexican restaurants in the city that can squash my snobby Californian friends’ disregard for east coast Mexican food. All of the comida on the menu is legit and the drinks are great too. Don’t sleep on this place if you’re after some awesome Mexican fare.
I went to Lupes last week for the first time and was blown away by how delicious the food was. I went back again this week! Everything here tastes super fresh because it’s made in-house. The salsas are amazing. My favorite is the cheese and spinach enchiladas which I get “Christmas style”, one with red sauce and one with green sauce. My hubby got a burrito and said it was just like the ones he gets in Cali (he goes there for work a lot). Highly recommend this place to anyone who loves delicious Mexican food.
This place is a neighborhood must. Great for vegans and meat eaters. I highly recommend the chicken mole enchiladas. The super veggie burrito is also a solid choice. Great fresh juices and coconuts. Breakfast is also great. Service is always bad. Just accept that and you'll have a great meal. Favorite drink is the Humo Verde
Relaxed yet busy/popular especially during happy hour...we had beers and Margaritas (one each! ) as we arrived 6:30 and took our time to decide what to order from the varied menu... staff were busy as constant stream of customers arrived but were always courteous... food was not as spicy as I had expected but was full of flavour... will return
Nice cute little Mexican cafe, on a quiet and not very busy street. The food is good, although I haven't tried more than a great avocado salad and a mojito, but those were awesome. Giving 4 stars because the service was quite slow (I got my glass of water in 15 min), but the people who work there are really nice!
Wide variety of menu options here. Salsa with the chips was awesome. Guac was good. I had enchiladas rojo I think, the sauce was great. Tortillas maybe a bit too soft? Rice was good, beans were good. It's California style stuff. Low prices make it worth revisiting! My partner's family have been coming here for many years.
Fun vibe - good happy hour deal. Food was solid, but not exceptional. Got the chicken mole, which had a real kick - maybe not authentic, but I cleaned my plate. My partner got a veggie burrito, which wasn’t that interesting. Would be better if they paid more attention to the veggie options. Margaritas were a good size and very tasty!
Review Jan 25, 2025: Pretty average Mexican food for a decent price given its NYC. I eat a lot of Mexican food and usually like everything I eat, I’m not picky. I got the beef burrito, it was just okay. Nothing special, small pieces of beef but cheesy. Chips were not fresh and tasted stale. Unfortunately I had to send my margarita back as it was not mixed well. Very strong not enough triple sec.
The food was tasty and came out fast but it was nothing memorable or worth bragging about. I had a beef burrito colorado... basically it's just a burrito. Though I was pleasantly surprised that the house margarita on the rocks packed a nice little kick!!! The vibe/atmosphere is pretty cool. And while polite, servers are not keen on checking-in occasionally to see if everything is to your liking.
It's nice. Friendly and prompt service. The margaritas are tasty and strong. And the food is not over salted. But otherwise, everything is so BLAND. The supposedly spicy shrimp are such a mild fresh tomato sauce, it should be Italian.
I was really looking forward to try this place. The chicken nachos were good! I was really hoping that the ala carte tacos would be equally good or better to be honest. I got the beef and chicken tacos. The tortilla was soggy, the meat had NO flavour at all. I had to ask for salt and used the rest of the toppings from the nachos to taste something/anything. You do get a good size taco for the price however I was very disappointed with how it tasted.
Lupe's was one of the few authentic So Cal style Mexican places back in the 80:s when good Mexican food was as rare as Hen's Teeth in NYC. Time has passed it by. Good Mexican food of this variety is now pretty common. Unfortunately Lupe's has not only not kept up, it's gone down in food quality. I had a pork burrito and the meat was off tasting, the beans ordinary, the rice on the side dry and tasteless. The Chile Relleno was ok but just barely. And the chicken mole was below average. What So Cal style Mexican place doesn't serve combination plates at all? The restaurant was empty on a warmer than usual Wed night in Jan. And even the take out business sermed very slow given how few times we saw any drivers come in for delivery pick up. We had to ask the waitress for the free chips and salsa that came with the Happy Hour cocktails that we all ordered before dinner. Go elsewhere.
So disappointing. Food used to be good, but tonight was the worst of our last visits at Lupe. It went downhill recently, but after tonight we wouldn’t go back. Food was bland, no flavor, guacamole was just okay, chips just okay. Three of us had dinner and no one ate much. Not good anymore. Owner is always hanging out in the restaurant. He obviously cares, but is he eating the food? So disappointing.
Tried to eat here, didn’t look very busy at 11:00 on a Saturday morning. We were told to sit anywhere we liked. After sitting, we waited for a menu. And waited. And waited. The waitress walked passed us about 10 times. We still waited for our menus. We decided to leave. If you can’t even think to bring me a menu, I can’t even imagine how bad you’re going to screw up my food. Had a great meal at Amelia’s Diner.
The service left much to be desired. The staff was friendly. Our order took a very long time to come out. The food largely lacked flavor and temperature. I shoulda known something was up when my chicken tacos arrived doused in red sauce. First and last time I'll patronize this establishment. Lupe's is a bit of a fiasco - pun absolutely intended.
Besides my order taking more than 20 minutes, there was a 4 legged customer in there anxiously waiting for her owner to finish her drink as she spoke the night away with her friend. Unbelievable. (Yes I am very aware of that law but it doesn't go like that either. You need to ask for proof to show it is a service dog if not all the restaurant's would look like a place for pets and not humans. Common sense.) Follow the law and have a nice day.
Ordered from here, waiting an hour for the food, called them they told me they don’t have delivery drivers on Monday’s and I should come pick it up. Never called to say it wouldn’t be delivered, didn’t seem bothered to have somebody waiting an hour for their food. Terrible
