Opinions de Waverly Diner Albee Square
I was in NYC last weekend for my birthday and I really wanted my birthday dinner to be in an NYC diner! (I miss NYC diners). I looked a ton for the right place and chose The Waverly. I know they thought I was crazy when I emailed them for reservations, but they were so accommodating to my party. Loved the vibes. Loved the food. Juan was the absolute best!!! It was so fun to take pics with the super cool awning afterwards too.
It is still a five star restaurant. I haven't eaten in there in the few years because I moved to Jersey.I was in the city today.I went to eat breakfast. It is still phenomenal. I highly recommend this restaurant.
EVERYTHING is fantastic here! The service the food the people… must visit if in NYC!
This is a real deal New York diner experience. I’ve been going here for years. I do wish they had blue cheese for their hamburgers, but they still have amazing hamburgers.
The Waverly Diner is highly recommended by New York Magazine and, despite it's dark interior, the Waverly has a welcoming and homey feel. The food is good and served in generous amounts. For an affordable price you can eat an entire meal including meat, potatoes, soup, salad and bread. The service is also very good and the staff make you feel right at home.
Came here with my shorty on Halloween Night! Was feeling a type of way about the parade so we bounced parade early..found tjis spot for a drink or two. Yo. Cocktails on point. Tequila and my shorty got gin. We has the fries and the half dozen of the three types oysters. The pacific coast ones reminded me of being back in the bay area. Glad we stopped in.
The Waverly Diner is a NYC staple. Just down the street from Washington square, this classic diner serves up all day breakfast, coffee, and an impossibly thick menu of everything else you could think of. Honestly, sitting at the Waverly and gabbing with friends and/or family before or after a stroll through the neighborhood is what New York is all about. Reasonably priced, give this place a try if you’re nearby and you want a classic New York City afternoon.
I had a great experience, they served omelet and hash browns on a skillet. Loved the vibe and the location is perfect for visiting Washington Square and the surrounding area.
Coffee flowed. Corn beef hash was delicious. Sat across from Louis C. K.
Excellent breakfast at Waverley Diner. Highly recommend the pancakes, waffles and challah bread french toast. The service was super friendly and efficient. Comfortable seating and authentic atmosphere. You could tell a lot of the customers were local - always a good sign. Go - you won’t regret it!
We had omelettes w avocado and veggies. Somehow the omelettes were spectacular! Like how great can an omelette be, right? Light, fluffy, not greasy, not dry. I think the avocado made it creamy, yet when i tried one elsewhere w my same friend, she and I agreed it was not nearly as good. Quick easy diner. Clean. Fast. Good I love this place.
This was an amazing place to eat. It's full of locals who know it's top tier food and the atmosphere is amazing. Highly recommend eating here
One of the best deals you will find in New York. The service is great and friendly and the food is delicious with good quality ingredients. And the prices are amazingly reasonable. Highly recommended.
In a neighborhood that is filled with things pretending to be something they are not, this diner sticks to its roots. It is good, cheap, and fast. It's beautiful windows open up to the bustling street. The decor has not changed in 40 years and the food is above the fast food you find in the surrounding blocks. It is comfortable and that is something that everyone needs.
Always have a great meal here when im in the area. Great food and great service here. I totally recommend this place. It’s a popular spot in the area so expect a little wait time. We waited I believe under ten minutes to be seated which isn’t bad. So come and enjoy their great food!
The Waverly was our regular breakfast spot during a recent trip to New York. A traditional diner, it’s alluring neon signage tempts you inside to a wonderful interior of dark-wood paneling and cosy booths. Stepping into the Waverly is like walking into the classic diner portrayed in so many movies, TV shows and books. Popular with Greenwich Village locals and visitors alike, it has an extensive menu which offers great choice and value. Service was always swift and attentive with the generous portions of food always tasty and satisfying. The Waverly is a real gem which ensured each day we spent in New York got off to the best possible start.
I treasure every aspect here. The standout choices are clear but everything works. This place has a good feel, clean look, and straightforward design. The service people were attentive enough. I endorse their approach to dining.
After I finishing singing at Xmas Day church service, I didn't know what would be open for breakfast. Then I remembered Wavely Diner. Easy access by subway & they were indeed open. The Diner was pretty full & there was a line but I it was a short wait to be seated at a table The staff greeted me & every other customer as we entered the door. Such a cheerful atmosphere!! I ordered pancakes w/ egg & bacon plus coffee. ( I was really hungry). Coffee & my order came in no time!! My egg was soft scrambled just as I had ordered, bacon was crisp & pancakes were fresh. What a delicious treat!! I really appreciate the service staff, whoever cooked the food & anyone else involved in making this such a wonderful Christmas experience. May you continue in 2023 to be a great place to dine!
Great all around diner with fast service. Recommend the pancakes and clubs.
The Waverly Diner has a Top 20 Diners in America banner from Time Out banner hanging on the wall. They deserve it. Truly magnificent place. I rolled in after midnight after a long day and they were incredibly kind. Served a cold beer with one of the best breakfast sandwiches of my life. Service was wonderful. The place was clean, well organized, and well run. My Lyft driver said “Waverly huh? Bet your meal was perfect?” He was right. It’s been weeks and I still think about the breakfast sandwich.
Such a lovely little neighborhood diner, was the perfect breakfast for lunch kind of place with a large menu and a cozy vibe filled with locals I’d assume. No music which was actually nice after the constant noise of the city, very tasty food. Pancakes and egg/bacon/hashbrowns were the American classics I was looking for.
This is the second time we have visited NYC and Waverly Diner was an absolute must. We loved it the last time and it does not disappoint!
This was a wonderful local place. Loved the food and service. Classic nyc diner
Went here because Timeout said it was one of the best in New York, and I was pleased to find it was notably better than other diners I've been to. The quality of food was uniformly just a bit better than other places I've been. It was very busy when I went at lunchtime on a Friday, but cleared out around 2:30. Plus the cashier smiled when I paid which I've never seen in any other diner in New York.
Old fashioned diner with all of the traditional menu items and a few specials. I have eaten here several times and the quality is consistent. Convenient to Washington Square Park and NYU.
A West Village Gem This was honestly the cutest place I’ve ever been to! As tourists, it still felt like a local spot—which made the experience that much better. Getting to soak in the West Village vibe while sitting in this small, cozy diner was everything. It felt intimate, classic, and a little like having breakfast with old money regulars—such a fun, unexpected vibe! We had fancy cereal, the most delicious cheese omelet, and hands down the best apple juice I’ve ever tasted. Everything just hit the spot. It was a little on the pricey side, but for the quality and experience, it was totally worth it. I felt safe, happy, and had a truly special birthday breakfast. Easily one of my favorite moments of the trip. Highly recommend for anyone wanting a cozy, authentic New York breakfast moment.
The Waverly Diner is my office away from the office and my home away from home. Now that I no longer live in the city, I still meet my tenants, brokers and associates at the Waverly Diner when I come up to New York each month to check on my six historic townhouses in the West Village. The food may be your typical diner fare, but the staff is A++ and they’re there and they care!
Can't believe I'm just writing a review about this place. It is the ONLY place I weep upon entering; just flooded with so many memories. I literally grew up here, and I give special thanks to Kumar for not only tolerating a rambunctious kat, but teaching me and my crew the meaning of class and welcome. The years go on, and I find myself not visiting nearly enough, but when waxing nostalgic just won't do, a trip to Waverly makes me think of a time where "young hearts ran free," and all is right in the world. This is the kind of place where food's great power is actualized, and the spiritual experience that is breaking bread is had among people who are always happy to see you. I hope Kumar is doing well, and I hope his children read this, because that man loves his family. I never tired of hearing him talk about them. Waverly, may you never waver. Kumar, you remain one of my heroes!
Like stepping back in time to a moment when people hung out for hours talking and enjoying comfort food! The food is great (I had a massive corned beef grilled Reuben) but the service is even better. The staff is friendly, attentive, and constantly checking in.
The restaurant runs with precision that's rare to find. Waverly Diner holds my loyalty through quality cuisine and employee service. They deliver taste and service without demanding excessive payment. You'll struggle to find comparable dishes around the city. I expect to return to this spot.
I remember the food was soo good and the service so fast that I'm sorry I can't go every week. The coffee is served in normal cups, and the water in plastic ones. It is an small place but since they're so fast you will not wait long. The decorations are nice in special the tinted windows.
Perfect breakfast. I dined here early on a Saturday morning before a meeting and had the Eggs Benedict with Lox. It was excellent. It came with generous portions of lox and the eggs were (for me) perfectly creamy, not runny. And the hashbrowns were exactly what I wish for from a diner breakfast. The staff that served me were each polite and friendly. An altogether relaxing and delicious meal.
A true hometown experience. My waiter had been working here for 33 years! So great that this place has survived everything throughout the years. The ambiance and decor is so great to see, and the food is delicious. It is almost like stepping back in time a bit, great place to grab a bite after drinks, check it out.

Kinda a lame brunch. Food was expensive in my opinion. Got a pastrami corned beef with cheddar cheese and coleslaw actually salvaged the sandwich.
A real slice of old New York. Great place to eat, fantastic staff and atmosphere. We went back a few times, mainly for breakfast. Best waffles I’ve ever had. A real American diner.

The dishes are perfectly hot and fresh to dive into. I ordered the quiche the first time. I’ve never liked quiches typically except for at La Pain Quotidien but this quiches was exactly what I was looking for like a slice from a casserole not a pie nor a biscuit style. That’s hard to find. It was very delicious. Also I was really relaxed in their space as it divides a lower half and an upper half which created a great cozy feeling. The booths are extra large to fit at least 6 people so good for families but then booths ranged in size so as I came in for a quick bite before onto my next errand I had the ease to catch a single booth at a convenience. Of course I went on the off hours so I never had to wait. I love going to diners and have traveled the US for the dinner experience. This one has more of a cozy feeling and comfortable unlike others that are stand alone, modern, and greasy.
It's a quaint little spot that serves regular diner food. The place is nice but way too small. The food was average, nothing notable. The service was great, though. I don't think I would go back.
Went there on a Friday evening after drinks. This place felt like a trusted friend. When every place else was booked we knew we would find food here and we did! I always love diners since they are so fast with their orders. We got seated immediately. My friends ordered their burger and half/half sandwich. The pastrami was a little dry but flavorful. I had the fish burger that was really nice and crispy. We also ordered the chocolate shake which was amazing and just what we needed.
We were walking up 6th and saw the neon sign in the window: "Corned Beef & Pastrami" - well, doesn't take much more to get a new yorker's mouth watering. So gave it a try. It is a diner - hence my 5 rating for atmosphere. It was pretty much everything you expect. But the main reason we went in was the song of the neon. Growing up with Pastrami & Corned Beef heavens like Hobby's, Carnegie, 2nd Ave, & Katz's - the bar is almost unfairly high. But hey, you threw it out on neon! Not a lot of flavor, not very big, and overcooked. If we wanted breakfast, would definitely go back but the CB & P was disappointing. The onion rings on the other hand were excellent!
Great service and the atmosphere is just what you're looking for if you enjoy diners. The pancakes I got weren't as fluffy or flavorful as I'm used to but it was still a decent meal regardless. A bit pricey but to be fair, it's NYC, not Pittsburgh (my meal of pancakes, bacon and orange juice would've been like $13 at a diner in downtown Pittsburgh - it was about $25 here).
A very normal diner in NYC. Good location between west village and Greenwich village. Came around 4pm on a Sunday and it actually had a decent crowd. The waverly melt was good with the onions but the fries were very mid. The Reuben was also open faced which was unexpected (and not exactly what we wanted). Also had the chocolate chip pancakes — recommend the top pancake as it had the most chocolate chips on it. Overall, nothing amazing but nothing bad. Massive menu.

Nice diner, good food, good service. A lot of options for breakfast, we didn't have to wait long. Very comfortable. Will come again.
Food was good, very typical diner menu with lots of choices. Friendly service. Convenient location near Washington square park. Quaint diner atmosphere.
The fries need some doctoring up with salt and pepper and you may have to ask for dressing for the Caesar salad. Pastrami sandwich was a little dry.
I paid $50 for an appetizer and a pasta dish. The food was fine but... It was $25 worth of food for twice the price. Nothing was particularly riveting about the fettuccine or the jalapeno poppers (6 for $15 is steep). Nothing bad about the food. But I wasn't excited to keep eating either. The wait staff was kind but not really on top of things. They didn't refill my water the whole time I was there (about an hour). So I was eating ice before long. The overall pacing of the experience was off. If you're getting out of the subway and need something to eat, you could find worse places to go. If you're trying to find a great restaurant in the village, you'll be a little disappointed.
Overpriced diner masquerading as a restaurant. It does take credit cards (ten dollar minimum). Classic diner menu items cost several bucks more here than at other similar establishments in the neighborhood. For example, your nine dollar tuna sandwich will cost one dollar and some change more if you want a slice of cheese and six plus bucks more if you want a side of fries. That said, some dishes are better quality, like the sausage. Breakfast dishes are charmingly served in a pan.
Not a bad place - it's definitely got character and the service is great. But the food is just ok for the price. I did not think it was anything special, and it was expensive. They do give you very large portions though.
I sort of stumbled into this place coming off the subway and needing to run some errands in the area before going to a concert; I was in a hurry, so I was glad to be able to stop in for a caffe latte and quick bite. The service was v courteous, but the food and pries are quite subpar: for $15, before tip, I got a small caffe latte and a cheese danish that looked fresh but could have doubled as a doorstop. I've passed by on many occasions, though I've never ordered anything; what I saw other patrons eating didn't look appetitising, though.

Food was terrible mid. You ever eat something just cause you hungry? That was my expérience here. I got a médium well romanian steak with mash potatoes, and spinach. Not great, very ok. If u can go some here else please do. Also overpriced for food that taste frozen
Atmosphere and service are nice . Breakfast was ridiculously Overpriced . Pancakes think , bland and had no taste . Coffee watered down First and last visit
From one of my most favorite places in the village to eat - waverly diner turned into a very mediocre and overly priced place. The Cesar salad we ordered had hardly any dressing and the Mac and cheese had a taste of a Walmart product you can heat in the microwave…. (We added Loads of Parmesan ) Big disappointment !!!
Oh I wish! Was excited to make it “my diner”... when looking over the menu On my phone. I was so impressed that I got out of the apartment and walked there to dine in. Maybe it’s COVID times... but one chef, limited menu and precooked food was not impressive. Below average. Something about diners located on avenues...
The diner definitely fits the outward and inwards appearance of what you want it to be. Very traditional feel with the small booths steel dividers, and wood walls. But the staff really bought the experience down. The vibe was incredibly low. Not only were they uninterested and uninviting upon ours, and anyone else’s arrival. You felt like anything asked was an extreme inconvenience. Rolling of eyes, tuting and a general dismissing deminor. The food we had was actually rather nice. The Waverley melt was nice and shared with onion rings and drinks. Drinks wise was below average, the Arnold Parlmer came in a milkshake glass with no straw, which I requested but was only diluted tea, no soda. And the chocolate milkshake was room temperature not cold. Overall a disappointing experience and wouldn’t recommend or return.
Waiter made us leave saying there was a line but there wasn't any. Wonder why he told us to leave and not any of the ones that been there longer than us.
waiter made us leave saying there was a line but there wasn't any. Wonder why he told us to leave and not any of the ones that been there longer than us.
The food was cold and not at all fresh. The veggie burger tastes like frozen peas. but mostly, the waiter was horribly rude and gave terrible service.
Very poor quality food. Ordered scrambled eggs (2 eggs), bacon and pancakes. No sausages. Eggs were served as a french omelette too overcooked, bacon was awful (old, old), and very artificial tasting pancakes. I was charged S23.58+ taxes. Later in the day I saw that the price in the menu for the same order + sausages was $20.8. Felt I was taken advantage. Very disappointing. Really regretted tipping for poor food and being overcharged.
I have been a long time customer for years today I’m truly disappointed in this Ruben sandwich I ordered for lunch to take out very sloppy made for $22 chef please do not put the bread under the sauerkraut, it made the bread really moist falling apart the sandwich wasn’t even put together couldn’t enjoy it.
I'm not one to leave reviews like this, but I was so disappointed by the service I received from this diner today I must share. Unfortunately I ordered a panini and was so disappointed by the taste and how soggy it was, I did not enjoy it whatsoever. When I brought it up with the waiter, asking if I can get something else or at least be discounted for this very expensive, very disgusting panini, his response was essentially, "it sucks to be you, there is nothing I can do to accommodate you". The customer service I received was very upsetting! If you do choose to come here, make sure not to order the panini and to order something you'll 100% enjoy, because if you dont, you won't be accommodated in any way, shape or form.
I wish I can put 5 stars for this place cause the food is good !!! Really good !! But my experience is all ruined because of the outdoor space ! I sat here outside when it was freezing cold , and there’s only 5 tables available, and no heaters to keep the place a bit warm , even bundled in huge coat and hat and gloves and scarf it wasn’t comfortable at all eating a cheese burger that became cold and the fries became cold ten minutes after the waiter brought it out ! How do you expect us to enjoy a cold meal ? I’m referring to the owner who is very cheap to install a heater outside. With no heater outside and only 5 tables , how do you expect to bring Business?? Sitting there in freezing cold evening was torture!!and to add salt to injury you charge us card fees on the bill ???? Really ??? The owner is really CHEAP! Won’t be going back again!
I called to ask what type of oil they use for my allergies and the man responded with “i dont know if you want to know you have to call in the morning” i asked if he could ask the chef or anyone in the kitchen and he said “no”
Went there for my lunch break from work, I was first seated in the front where there was a bucket of dirty dishes. The cashier was very racist I asked for a seat by the booth which was opened and she told me they were filled and then told the waiter to sit me somewhere else. Next thing I know someone is seated where I asked to be. They were very rude, food was just nasty as the attitude, if you are a person of color the atmosphere in there will give you 1953 like you belong on the “Other side” of town. I wouldn’t wish this experience on anyone, don’t recommend especially if you are of color and no cheese burger with fries and a drink shouldn’t be worth $26!
This review is difficult for me, because I really thought it was going to be 5 starts all across by the way everything was going; until my & tasted the food(awful). Presentation really good 👍, quality, lack of flavor, toughness, and the list goes on to the point that we literally just packed all up. I personally felt that it was out outrageous the bill was almost $90. 2 kids meals, 1 waayyyy over cooked discussing, that is why I didn't continue to eat them cocktail shrimp, a cup of "soup" (more like porridge), and the appetizers sampler (that my kids who usually love that, didn't want). We, left and turned right straight to Papayas Restaurant. They got some Hotdogs 🌭 combo's and hamburgers and said that it tastes better. I wanted to cry inside of me. But, on the positive side of the restaurant. Our server, I wish I could have gotten his name, he was so nice and attentive, as matters of fact All the server. I felt welcomed, despite them being full and busy when first entered, and the bathroom is clean and spacious, also the ambitious is nice. A bit pricey, but keep in mind the area you are in as well.
