Opinions de Blue Hill New York
Just exceptional from start to finish. Incredible food, thoughtful service, and a great atmosphere. Cannot recommend highly enough!
Family Meal was one of our favorite NYC experiences. The food is amazing! They highlight the vegetables and make them the star. I say this as a big fan of meat. John, our bartender, was super friendly and took great care of us. Grace also helped us edit our reservation when we got last minute tickets to see a Last Week Tonight taping. Overall our favorite meal in NYC and just a great experience.
We had a fantastic experience here last weekend — everything was delicately prepared with so much care, the vibe was low-key and relaxed, just our style. We were pleasantly surprised by a subtle Cajun twist in a few dishes — it brought back familiar flavors for us in such a thoughtful and well-executed way. The portions were generous, the service warm and knowledgeable without being too formal, and it all felt like dining with good friends. So glad we don’t have to travel to Tarrytown anymore — this city location is everything we loved about the original, just closer to home.
So deliciously amazing! We went here for our last dating anniversary before our wedding next year and they pulled out all of the stops, even set out this little anniversary card and brought us a surprise dessert at the end. Service was on point. We ordered the extended tasting menu. It was so good and I was stuffed by the end. My favorites out of all the courses was the asparagus and the duck. The duck was the best duck I have ever had, I always thought I didn’t like duck until I had this duck!
Recently had a dinner with friends here and everything was exceptional! The food was one of the best meals I’ve had in a while, service was lovely, and everything was just perfection. No notes!
Have been waiting forever to dine here and it was worth the wait. Family Meal is an experience dinner that doesn't give you a choice for what you're getting! It's all locally sourced from their upstate farm and brought into the city day of. The fresh vegetables were what shocked me. Everything was so fresh and delicious. When we sat down there was a Brussel sprout tree on the table that ended up being one of our sides. My favorite part of the meal was the potatoes severed with the pork. The flavors were out of this world. It is a ton of food and it's $115 a person so it's a special occasion restaurant and hard to get reservations so make sure you're checking a month beforehand on OpenTable when reservations open up and snag your seat. We worked with Joy on our reservation and had Ally as our server. Everything was beautiful and I hope to dine again one day. #bluehill #bluehillfamilymeal #familymeal #greenwichvillage #washingtonplace #foodblogging #dinner #pork #vegetables #farm #nyccarbs #comfortmea
The single best tasting menu I ever had, every dish knocked it out of the park, being both unique and thoughtful. And serving courses family style made the experience of fine dining with others all the more personable and intimate. And the service was spectacular as well with very attentative and knowledgeable staff!!
Dining at Blue Hill was a celebration of seasonal ingredients presented in a thoughtful and balanced way, and the relaxed but knowledgeable service enhanced the sense of authenticity throughout the meal.
I had dinner at Blue Hill twice. The pictures are a few days ago (Sep 2018). I also visited Stone Barns and learned the philosophy how they approach the mother nature as well as the method of farming and how they grow vegetables, live stocks and bees. Among many acclaimed restaurants I have been to, I like Blue Hill very much. The food is true to nature without much frills. Yet it is sophisticated enough. This time I sat at the bar (because I couldn’t book ahead). The bartender was skillful - he took our orders without writing down while making cocktails for other customers. But everything came with precise correctness. Blue Hill has great (thoughtful) options for drinks including desert wines. Please try. My next wish is to dine at Blue Hill at Stone Barns (which seems to be almost impossible to book :( )
Almost all the items from the tasting menu were loved (would order again!) and we especially loved how veggie forward the whole 4-course was!
Have been around 5 times and still is one of my favourite restaurants in the US. Can be simple, but sometimes complex, truth is, the product doesn't lie and they are very very good. The stone barns products are an highlight, but the service is very in tune with the quality of these. Will come back at every trip to NYC
My party had a wonderful evening dining at Blue Hill, and I was excited to try the Family Meal as my prior dining experience was with the set tasting menu. Each course had a great selection of farm fresh produce, adequate portions, and light but comforting fare. We included the wine pairing and the taste and tale of each bottle were remarkable. Our servers were attentive and patient and the overall ambiance leaves us with a treasured memory of this meal.
Amazing experience. The staff were attentive, incredibly gracious and so knowledgeable. Food was incredible, light yet intricate. Beautiful experience. Highly recommend.
Easily one of the best dinner experiences I’ve ever had. The food is beautifully presented, in a timely way, and tastes outstanding. The service was excellent. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. We had no dietary restrictions in our party, but the table next to us had a vegetarian menu and it looked just as amazing!
I have tried numerous Michelin star restaurants and set course haute cuisine in NYC, yet Blue Hill family meal was by far the best and exceeded my expectations. The appetizers were creative, making me curious with the pretty plating, while surprising me with completely different tastes at the same time in good ways. In the main dishes, the eggplant was superb – nothing close to anything I tasted before. The pork dish was just perfect, well-balanced with tender texture and very tasteful. We were served several dessert dishes as part of the family meal, which was nice, but I was initially not thrilled as I’m not a dessert person. Nevertheless, I emptied all the dessert dishes. They were so delicious, yet they were not that sweet. All the dishes are great, but I must say the wine pairing was on another level. I felt like I was journeying through exquisite wine countries like Champagne, Burgundy, and Napa. The head sommelier was super passionate and introduced me to his perfect wine selections. The ambiance was also great. All the restaurant employees were super friendly. They all made us feel very comfortable and helped us enjoy the food, wine, and ambiance. I will definitely come back again when I visit NYC next time. Thank you!
Arguably one of the best, most consistently delicious restaurants in Manhattan. I have been back 4 times with everyone from foodies to my mom (who is not known for the best cooking) and everyone has loved it. I love the rotating menu based on the seasonality of produce and varying meats. The courses keep coming and it seems like each one has it's own personality. The staff are very knowledgable on their food and if they don't know something, they get the info from the kitchen. It truly is a sensory delight in every way. Great food and great service from great people. Bang for your buck...I don't know if you can beat this. 100% going back...until I die or run out of money.
Reading the reviews, I was not entirely convinced--after going myself, though, I can say that the four courses were more than filling, each dish was flavorful and artistically curated, and the dining experience was indeed intimate and sweet the way dinner with family should be :) The service was warm and the atmosphere was perfectly designed. I found my new favorite restaurant. (not all dishes are pictured)
We simply loved it Disclaimer - we've sat at the bar with a super friendly and professional bartender named Antanas who made the entire evening so much more entertaining 😃 If you're a big meat lover and your dinner has to be centered around a big piece of steak or poultry, then go someplace else. However, if you appreciate vegetables, their freshness and would like to experience them in new amazing delicious ways - do not miss out on Blue Hill! You're being served a 4 course meal which is imaginative and tastes amazing from start to finish. Of course, some dishes are better than others but they were all excellent. Compared to other fine dining, it feels like the portions are slightly larger and the cost more reasonable. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary so going for a nice piece of steak (that would have cost us half) wouldn't have been as special as visiting Blue Hill. Compliments to the chefs, cooks, waiters and our bartender - they were all extraordinary! Would definitely love to come back and try their farm-to-table menu in a different season...
Absolutely thrilled to have discovered my new favorite restaurant in NYC! The vibe here is just so inviting. Amazing service with kind hospitality. Each dish we tried was a fun surprise, with flavors so refreshing and vibrant they truly made us reconsider how ingredients can come together to create something extraordinary.
I am a vegetarian and so I selected their vegetarian menu and I was blown away. All of the fruits and vegetables were so fresh it was like I had never tasted them before. Their service was also incredible. They accommodated every allergy, they allowed us to order drinks off menu, and they even gave us a menu to take home. We went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and they surprised us with a delicious chocolate cake and gave us a candle. I can’t wait to come back! (Shout out to our amazing server Justin)
This is what you want in an unpretentious finer dining establishment - focus on ingredients and techniques, pleasant service and a sense of innovation. The four course menu is really a lot more dishes because each course has multiple delicious items, and by the end you will definitely be full. Cocktail and wine menu is pretty impressive as well.
A taste bud experience! It was like they took our taste buds on a trip to mars! We loved it! It is a fixed menu at Blue Hill with two (kind of) options. We recommend getting one of each if you are with a friend. They bring out the courses on really raw, awesome looking plates. The food itself was heaven. Each dish was such a new flavor experience. There were flavors we feel we have never tasted before. Some dishes like the bass had a dill sauce that was one of the best things I have ever eaten. My wife said the chicken was the best chicken she has ever eaten! The dessert was divine. Blueberry pie was like a mousse with a crust so good, we could have just eaten crust pie! They served a mint ice cream with the smallest, most flavorful strawberries and blueberries I have ever eaten! Most of the food they serve is grown or raised organically on their family owned farm, which makes you feel ten times better about eating it!
Celebrated a milestone birthday here and had such a memorable experience. Every dish was a "wow", and that Rarely ever happens. Looks like I'll be trying for reservations at Stone Barns soon...!
I couldn’t believe the couple next to us that complained about small portions. I was so full ! The meal was exceptionally detailed, starting from the best carrots I ever had in my life! The best part of this experience was that I didn’t expect any of the dishes. Usually, having researched the restaurant, I get what I expect from seeing reviews and pictures. Not here. They are truly creative with their menu. When I asked for a martini, they created one out of home pickled cabbage juice and habanero. It was so delicious. I cant say enough about the knowledgeable waitstaff who gave me an extra pillow for my back and shared his experience at stone hill. They are so humble and approachable. Away with table linens—this is the new way to dine.
Creative and flavorful dishes that were light, yet filling enough, and packed with flavor. The ambiance is certainly upscale and the experience is elevated from the first bite or sip. I tried dishes I’ve never before seen on menus. It was a fabulous experience for a foodie! I really enjoyed sitting at the bar.
One of our favorite restaurants in NYC. Food serves family style and the ingredients are always fresh and delicious. No menu to choose from, less headache for me.
Wonderful birthday meal at Blue Hill / Family table. Attentive staff and very accommodating of gluten allergy. Lots of delicious fresh vegetables across all courses - the salad and dessert were our favorite. Only thing that was a tad off was the peach rx cocktail - tasted like watered down mescal. Overall lovely meal and want to head up to the farm upstate.
We had such an awesome dining experience at Family Meal. We went for brunch, and all the meals were delicious and interesting! The ambience was low-key, understated, and cozy. The service is such a highlight of the experience, as the hosts are super attentive, and you can ask them for any info related to the dishes, and just very personable and warm. It’s very fun and exciting not knowing what’s going to come next, but trust you’re in good hands! Would highly recommend to anyone adventurous enough.
I didn’t think I would enjoy eating so many vegetables, but yet - here we are, me eating and enjoying. Blue Hill is currently serving up Family Meal. Prefix menu, everyone share the plates in the middle. I started off with a glass of their Syrah, which was indeed good. The waiter said he gave a “chunky” pour, which is a funny way to describe a pour so I had a good laugh, but indeed it was not chunky whatsoever… Enough with the wine talk, let’s talk about the courses. Pickled veggies magically appeared. It was a cleanser and tasty. Followed by bread with amazing dips. I held off as to not be too full. The stars came shortly after which were the mushroom donut and potatoes. Both, imho, best in class and creative. The one protein dish , which was pork, perfectly cooked, tender and juicy, accompanied by beans that were to die for. We concluded with some deserts which was rather lackluster but it did fill that portion of the stomach reserved for deserts. Service throughout the meal was top notch. Venue is relatively small, but that’s mostly true for many restaurants in nyc. They do have another location next to their actual farm which I would love to visit. Overall, a solid experience and I would recommend.
🍷🍷 We were the last party arriving at 9pm on a Monday night. We sat at the bar and were served by Sebastian. The place lets you bring your own bottle of wine for a $50 cork fee which is so unique and great for a Michelin Star restaurant, and they don't make you feel cheap for doing it either. From start to finish the food was just so so so good, the atmosphere and service were absolutely perfect. I'll remember that triple fish first course till I'm 100 years old, especially the trout. Just wow. The beef with the potato made you feel at home with a touch of uniqueness. The dessert was perfectly balanced with some of the best blueberries ever. So glad we picked this restaurant for our night out in NY.
This was the best tasting menu I've had in a while. Clearly the main feature of it was the ingredients. The freshest, bestest, absolutely delicious, incredible flavorful vegetables (and other ingredients), and they use them in a very smart way. I also loved that the dishes were "simple". No foams, gels etc, just very delicious and flavorful food
Highly recommend making a reservation here! The family meal concept is now available for parties of two as well. I highly recommend the wine pairing to go with your meal. The price was decent compared with other Michelin stars in the city. Shoutout to Antanas at the bar who took us through the entire experience.
Highly recommend!! Everything was of top quality ingredients and tasted full of flavors. We chose the vegan and seafood sets to share. Could really tell the chef's attention to detail and creativity in the presentation and depth of flavors. They took our dietary restriction very seriously and nothing had refined sugar, including desserts. They created special yummy desserts made without refined sugar. Servers were all knowledgeable and friendly.
It’s a good place, however I found the service to be sluggish. The food was fresh but the vegetables surprisingly had little taste. The wine list is extensive and the ambiance is laid back. Surprisingly I was not entirely enamored with the food. The fare is light and menus are made based on ingredients from their nearby farm, but it was simply not really that flavorful. Preparations were well done and portions were large.
• Blue Hill in Manhattan is a wonderful place that I'd love to visit again. • Their farm-to-table concept is simply amazing. They started with a restaurant in upstate New York and now have one in NYC too. • What I really liked is that their veggies are grown on their own farm, and the meats and fish are provided by their partners. You can taste the fresh difference! • The interior has a simple yet classy vibe, with lovely flowers adorning the space. • The food is served as a mix of different dishes in a four-course tasting menu. • They did an excellent job accommodating my dislikes and allergy requests. • The staff is incredibly attentive and friendly.
an absolutely amazing experience!! the meal was beyond expectations, and our server sophia was extremely attentive and made our experience wonderful! this was our second time coming here, and we loved it just as much as the first. the meal is beyond words, there wasn’t a single part we didn’t like. beautiful place, and amazing staff!!!
My husband and I celebrated our anniversary dinner at Family Meal- Blue Hill. Of all the set menus and omakases we've tried across the city, this meal stood out because we were perfectly satiated at the end. If your goal is to find fresh, nourishing and satisfying food, this is your place. My personal favorite was the Brook trout and Chicken with mushrooms. Our least favorite was the blueberry dessert which we found a bit too tart (but maybe because we had it with decaf coffee). Shout out to our server, Ian, for being so warm and accommodating. The meals are served family style (to be shared with the table) and arranged so that it progressively gets heavier in the end (vegetable crudites first and heavier protein last). The food is NOT heavily seasoned, which might be off-putting to others if they're looking for the feeling of a Thanksgiving food coma after a meal (I sometimes have those cravings as well!) This is an excellent place for intimate birthdays and dinners. Dress as if going to a sit down dinner at your co-worker's house.
I’ve bookmarked this restaurant for quite some time, because of the farm to table concept and Michelin star status. Walked in by myself on a weekday around 6pm. I was able to get a bar seat. I liked the decoration and ambiance. The ingredients were not that beyond imagination, but each dish was for sure cooked with creativity in mind. From the veggie & crudo to the bread to the grass-fed beef to the brûlée & ice cream dessert, everything was a pleasure of eyes and taste buds. If I were to complain, the wait between two dishes can be longer than expected, although not sure if it’s by design.
An amazing journey through the culinary mind of a great chef! We were whisked away on the flavor express! The food was truly impressive! I still do not know how peas can taste that good! Everything was top notch, even the old fashioned! The ambiance matches the name, it has the feel of joining a family table run by your old friends! Truly impressive!
I gave Family Meal at Blue Hill 5 out of 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Quick story before my actual review; The first appetizer served - A single raw carrot with its leaf still attached!!! (I'm not joking, check my photos ) I almost burst out laughing, I felt like a fancy rabbit in a fancy restaurant, munching on my very own carrot stick! Bold move, Blue Hill, that takes guts! Thankfully, the rest of the meal was so delicious, and may i say... Just hare-fect ?!!!! Lmao 🥕🐇👌 Okay, review time!!! Pros: • Delicious and innovative farm-to-table cuisine that showcases the best of local and seasonal ingredients - every dish is a flavorful and creative surprise! • Thoughtful and knowledgeable service that enhances the dining experience - the staff is passionate about the food and wine, and it shows! • Intimate and cozy setting that feels like a special occasion - perfect for date night or a celebration! • Creative and well-curated prefixed menu that offers a journey through flavors and textures - a true culinary adventure! • From start to finish, everything was so fresh!!!! • Tip: dont skip dessert !!! • The menu changes constantly, so you'll have a totally new experience each time you visit!! Cons: N/A Follow me on Google for more ❤️
Family Meal at Blue Hill is a unique, fun and tasty place. Dinner is a menu-less experience that is in the spirit of a restaurant's family meal. The dishes are all made with locally sourced, seasonal ingredients, and the focus is on vegetables and grains, with meats playing a supporting role. The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a special dining experience.
We came from Houston to celebrate our anniversary and had such an amazing experience that we’re considering making dinner at Blue Hill a yearly tradition! Such beautiful ingredients carefully curated with immense care and creativity. You cannot miss how much thought is put into every single dish. Service was fantastic as well!
Truly exceptional, but didn’t we know that already? They customized vegetarian meals for me and dad while my partner ate the freshest fish and meats to his hearts desire. They truly know how to make ingredients sing. We also had the wine pairing and I don’t know when I’ll have wine like that again- nothing hits the same anymore. Can’t wait to make a trip update to the farm one day
A great friend and I went for brunch. And I can't wait to go back!! The room is intimate and inviting. The service was out of this 🌎. Schuyler, our sommelier, offered nothing but helpful and informed recommendations. The menu, itself, was second to none. Each course was AMAZING!! The skillet Millet is stupendous! The surprise of the tasting meal added to the experience. Also, it started to snow...
I will never not visit Blue Hill when I’m in NYC. About two decades ago, I had my first visit and remember to this day how transformative it was. It almost felt like a reintroduction to tomatoes and other veggies like I had never really tasted before. The frothy morning egg was perfection to me. Now I’ve had the opportunity to bring my children, and my youngest son who abhors vegetables told me that their chips dip was incredible (little did he know it was made of beets). The staff was so warm and welcoming at our latest visit and really made it special for us. Thank you.
I took my family, 5 of us in total, for dinner tonight. We all had an amazing evening. The food was fab and varied, the service outstanding. I liked the balance of food types, textures, and flavors. The family compared notes after and we all especially loved an appetizer, the Hakurei Turnip and Radish with creme fraiche and buckwheat. I also love the radicchio entree salad. All dishes were delivered simultaneously to our table, by multiple wait staff. There was ample time between courses. We had one vegetarian in our group and two others had minor food restrictions. All were handled gracefully. The setting is low key in a good way. Even though almost all tables were occupied, it was quiet.
This has to be one of the best Michelin-starred meals I've ever had in NYC. I randomly went for lunch because I'm trying to visit every Michelin spot in the city, and honestly I don't know why it took me so long to finally get to Blue Hill. The restaurant is tucked away in the cutest neighborhood, and the interior has a Scandinavian-meets-farmhouse vibe that feels clean, calm, and cozy. As soon as I sat down, it felt warm and homey in the best way. Lunch is $85 for a three-course menu, and I highly recommend it. There's no printed menu; they simply bring you what's in season, which I loved since I'm in my veggie era. Leave the thinking to them. First Course: We started with a plate of raw radishes, baby turnips, rye crisps, and an herbed crème fraîche dip topped with dill. Simple but so fresh. The only thing I didn't love was the crackers, which had a bit of a cardboard-like mouthfeel. Then came a seasonal vegetable broth with squash, greens, and a dollop of crème fraîche. It was genuinely one of the best soups I've had anywhere Second Course: The main course came with a perfectly balanced little gem salad, roasted carrots, the creamiest mashed potato purée, slices of homemade whole-grain bread, and a flaky, crusty meat pie that was rich and comforting. Everything tasted super seasonal and thoughtful. Dessert: We finished with a warm apple crumble topped with a silky, tangy cream. The perfect ending. Blue Hill completely exceeded my expectations. The food is incredibly clean, seasonal, and well-executed, and the space is beautiful. I'd absolutely come back, especially at such a reasonable price point.
Honestly words can’t explain the experience, everything was perfect! The food, the service, and the atmosphere were top notch and well curated. The family style was extremely unique, with ingredients I’ve never or rarely seen in other restaurants. Bonus points for a very interesting wine pairing throughout the meal. The atmosphere is very cozy and welcoming, honestly perfect for a special date, a business meeting, or catching up with friends and family.
This is also New York trip. Love New York because there are many great restaurants there. Hubby took me here to celebrate my bday. It wasn’t disappointed. Restaurant was very cozy inside, also there was an outdoor patio as well, full bar, food and veggies were fresh. This restaurant was featured on Netflix for the Chef’s Table Series and the Chef on this restaurant was on there. Staffs were nice, the whole dining experience was nice. Flavor was very different than I have tasted anywhere else. Unique. There are streets parking, but like I said we uber everywhere in New York. We always make rsvp so there wasn’t a wait for us. It’s a prefixed menu with just $150 per person and with wine pairing was additional $95. Very decent for New York
This experience was one of the best dining experiences I've had. Every dish we had here was spot on, fresh and inventive. The place is upscale cozy; you feel like you're inside someone's super nice living room. The service is outstanding, even bringing us a second order of the whole wheat focaccia (probably the best focaccia I've ever had). They switch up their menu according to what they can get at the farmer's market that day, so it will always be a good place to come back to. Well deserved michelin star. Hoping to come back soon!
This place is absolutely amazing. No one needs to tell you that but what’s really cool is that my wife and I went and I’ve been drying out this September but still wanted an experience of trying a bunch of craft cocktails. They killed it. Every drink was so cool and I even bought one of the bottles (photo). It’s just super cool for a place this famous and established to still have a commitment to service so high they’ll cater to some clown who wants to explore off-menu, zero proof cocktails. Well done Blue Hill team, well done.
Wow. This was so good. Really really cool interior design. We got to sit in the garden room and it was so cute and intimate. The food was unbelievable. It’s so fun too and the courses are so good. Definitely worth the money spent and the cocktails were amazing. I got the stone punch. Really really worth it
Super friendly neighborhood vibe fine dining. Exceptional quality produce. Simple preparations and delightful sauces. Super friendly staff who live up to the “Family” nomenclature of the restaurant name/sign. Good option for vegans but I found the food to have too much acid to be synergistic with a wine pairing. That being said really beautiful wines and feeling of genuine generosity from the staff. Cool spot.
I am shook, absolutely one of the best meals any of us have ever had. All of the food was phenomenal, smooth flavors, well complimented — only issue was there was too much of it (which also means I don’t remember the names of everything we ate). It’s a single tasting menu, multiple dishes brought out in 3 stages plus dessert, very accommodating of all dietary preferences including vegan. Given the price too, it’s not an inexpensive night, but for the quality and quantity of food and with such phenomenal service, it’s also a great value. Just, stunned.
Absolutely incredible. My boyfriend surprised me for my birthday and took me here. I love that they let the individual ingredients standout and it truly was an experience to go through each course. The service was top notch and we went right when they opened so we had the patio all to ourselves for part of our dinner which was amazing.
Blue hill really lived up to my expectations. The city location is low key space that you you walk into and really do feel that family type dynamic. Small space, not overcrowded & if you get the garden room you walk through / past the kitchen which was fun. The food was insane, it’s farm to table 4 course meal, and they can serve to accommodate any allergy. I couldn’t believe the portions, the flavours, all in all I’d go again.
Nestled in Manhattan, Family Meal at Blue Hill is a one-Michelin-star gem that delivers an elevated contemporary American dining experience with a farm-to-table philosophy. From the moment you step in, the warm, inviting ambiance transports you to something reminiscent of Los Angeles’ modern dining scene, with sleek decor and a low-lit atmosphere that balances both comfort and intimacy. The four-course meal was beautifully executed, with dishes that showcased the seasonal and farm-fresh ingredients. Though I couldn’t try certain offerings—such as the squid ink and oysters—due to dietary restrictions, the presentation was impeccable, and every other dish delivered on flavor. The meal began with an artisan bread and butter spread that was simple yet indulgent—a promising start. The highlight for me was the tilefish over lentils, a dish that was both buttery and hearty, with perfectly balanced flavors. The grass-fed beef followed, melting in my mouth over Carolina rice sea peas, and topped with crisp kale chips. The side of fennel and celery salad was a thoughtful addition, bringing a refreshing contrast to the richness of the dish. For dessert, the almond ice cream over a buckwheat pancake with caramelized apples was an elegant finale. While I personally could have done without the apples, the combination of flavors and textures made it a satisfying and well-rounded dessert. Overall, Family Meal at Blue Hill is a restaurant I’d highly recommend. The thoughtful execution of farm-to-table cuisine, paired with a welcoming ambiance and impeccable service, makes for a truly special dining experience. Whether you’re a seasoned foodie or simply looking for a memorable night out, this spot is worth visiting.
Had an absolutely lovely evening dining here. Food was delicious and the staff were wonderful. Not even sure where to start with the food but every dish was delightful (except the crudite, it wasn't bad but I could've done without it). One of my favorites was the bread they served. So soft, so warm, I could've eaten that all day. I was absolutely stuffed by the end of the night. Sometimes you're afraid that you'd leave these Michelin starred restaurants wanting more but nope, not here. A great place for a classy yet homey meal.
Very different experience than BlueHill Tarrytown. This place was more casual and relaxed. The food was amazing… Fish I had was delicious. Small portions but that is to be expected. Expect around $150 per person. The service was good as well. It’s was must try for me because BlueHill Tarrytown blew me away with the experience and inventive dishes. The food was beautifully presented and had great flavor. Lol 😂 we all were so hungry that we failed to take food pics.
we had a lovely time here. we were a party of 3 and managed to try all but one of the items on daily menu and the farmer's feast. the simplicity of the food allows you to taste the freshness of the ingredients; however, i must say that some of the key ingredients didn't really stand out like the beef in the 'beef & broccoli' or the crab in the 'maine crab' dishes. Service was superb, as you would expect to get from a fine restaurant. Be prepared to pay upwards of 160$ pp if you order a bottle of wine.
It’s just amazing that they provide different sets of menus for different dietary preference. The space is small and intimate, and the service is awesome. It’s four course meal but definitely enough. Seafood dish and bread course are the most impressive. But overall the flavor wasn’t as amazing as I thought. A good experience overall!
$150/person pre-fixed 4 courses dinner. Each course comes with many dishes. I love the dessert, carrot & steak, and the bread. All dishes are good but not special enough to visit again. The whole dining experience is about 2-2.5 hours. Some dishes are the same with blue hill stone barns, like the dessert.
Homey ambience. Smiling service. Flowing wine (if you get the pairing. By any regular metric, this is a 5/5. Unfortunately, this is New York. More unfortunately, they have a Michelin star. Thus, they must be judged within the strata in which they belong. The ingredients were FRESH. This is their calling card. The carrots, the squash, the beets, the buckwheat. Kudos to their souring. The meal is an imbalanced (to me and my table). We were craving protein, and this place highlights the produce. I will say the tastiest dish was a non meat course (mushrooms in a dashi broth) Not top of my list, but massive respect to what they serve and what they represent.
3/10/24, Wasn’t impressed with the food/service. Was a fish heavy meal, (no poultry or beef) which was surprising. Didn’t think the fish was spectacular, none stood out. Took about 15 minutes for the waiter to introduce himself. Had to track down someone to order a cocktail. The dessert (dirt pie) was our favorite dish. Was ~$225 per person. Didn’t live up to expectations.
The appetizer was amazing! Delicious chicken soup. The entree was unfortunately disappointing. The main protein was a serving of cold chicken wings. I hope it was fully cooked, but the texture and temperature begged to differ. The rice served with it was also very dry and really had no flavor. A could of the sides were ok, but overall a letdown, especially considering the price. The dessert was simple, but actually really tasty. Overall, could have been much better.
Great service and atmosphere. Interesting but not delicious food. Honestly I kind of expect the food to be "interesting but not delicious" — I find most Michelin star restaurants to be too opinionated. Maybe that's what earns them the star since they can't be just "normal but very good", but I do wish the food tastes more "normal but very good".
They were very nice and very attentive and the food was very fresh but it was bland and under seasoned. Maybe it’s more of a white person thing and just went over my head but if I’m going to spend this much I’d rather it be on an omakase🤷🏽♀️ (Also they sat us next to a crying baby which really took away from the experience as a whole but I know I cannot really fault them for that)
So…. I’m not sure who would actually like Family Meal. (I think today’s menu is lacking, which might be a reason why the experience is lacking.) As a meat eater, they are terrible at cooking meat in general. If you’re vegetarian, maybe better as their vegetables are indeed unique and fresh, but cooked in the most boring way. They need some pest control… mosquito in wine glass and on guests’ shoulders. Canapés are good especially there’s a wrapped asparagus in a vinegar sauce. First course are three butter with crackers and raw veggies. Yes, you eat the veggies while grabbing the leaves lol. The radish was meh, but the butter was amazing. It also came with fish and oysters. I found the oysters to be tasteless (it’s still fresh but it has zero sea-ness, which honestly diminishes the idea of eating an oyster) Second course was the bread, scramble veggies/trout/eggs, and squid with gar-leeks (garlic and leeks). I would say this course is the best course, even though it’s very brunch-y, and there’s basically no plating design lol. Main course was a choice of chicken or tilefish, served with asparagus and a salad. The tilefish has a significantly smaller portion, and neither choices was good. If you want good tilefish go to GT. The salad has RAW mushrooms, basically tasteless. Last course was a tasteless ice cream (yes it’s tasteless lol) with nuts and cream and apple. Again, GT has a similarly tastes apple and quince tart that’s significantly better. Service was great and the wine selection is EXTREMELY limited but still great (get the Riesling). Honestly Family Meal lacks the experience of walking through the garden and understanding the origins of those vegetables like you would if you’re going to the actual Stone Barnes, and with monotone introduction of the courses, all you get here is just mainly undercooked or scrambled vegetables with meat that I could probably cook better than them.
The place has a beautiful and cozy ambience and the service was great. The first course of our meal was fantastic and set high expectations - the crème fraiche and buckwheat soil was so delicious I could eat that everyday. Unfortunately the later courses were a bit of a let down for us. The leeks were too tough, the raw chicory was too bitter and not sufficiently complemented by the sauces, the turmeric ice cream was interesting at best. The focus was on featuring the fresh produce and I think they did a good job at that.
Incredible service and atmosphere. Food was good but I thought it was overpriced for what it is… I mean, ingredients are fine but I would expect a bit more sophistication in cooking techniques / taste when I’m paying nearly $200. It was fun to got for a special occasion but I don’t really need to go back anytime soon, tbh.
The food was good but nothing impressive/special. We did the wine pairing which was a huge mistake, it didn't go with the food at all. Honestly we should have known the wine pairing wouldn't be good since the chef changes the menu each day based on what's fresh (hence it'd be difficult to get the most optimal pairing). The servers also didn't know anything about the wine. Overall, the food is fine but not good enough/unique enough to justify the price.
Such a disappointment. Compared to the other higher end restaurants in Manhattan, Blue Hill was a disappointment in almost every possible way even with a few high points for the food. We were greeted by a non-smiling hostess who was unwelcoming and gruff. She should have been our sign to walk out and we almost did. Her welcome was startling. As it was 5:30 when they were starting service, there were many employees just hanging out in the dining room. They were leaning up against a wall, congregating and having discussions at the desk. As the place is relatively small it was overwhelming and a topic of discussion at our table. Our server, Savannah, was friendly and is a good server compared to many NYC restaurants. However the food is not entirely common and needed explanation in many cases. She was able to recite what the food was but unable to expand much more or answer fairly basic questions about it. I will say though she is the only reason we didn't walk out before ordering. The best employee we encountered delivered our water. He was cheerful, smiled, and seemed engaged. The food itself was mainly nice. Many little bites and most were tasty. Definitely a high point. Serving tiny bites on a wrinkled burlap bag is a bit odd The half melted ice cream over fruit was a sloppy mess and it took at least 20 minutes to deliver. The one thing we did like and so did our neighboring table, was the butter for the bread. When butter is a highlight, things can't be going very well. The tables at blue hill are very close together and need to be moved if you are sitting against the wall and need to sit down or get up. At the end of the meal the person with me had to be helped by other adjacent diners to move the table as the staff, while right nearby at the desk, where they had just picked up the check from the table, did nothing to help. The room is decorated with plastic flowers and is otherwise fairly plain. On the way to the bathroom, supplies were stored on shelves in plain sight. I live in the country in a 1860's farmhouse which is apparently what the restaurant is trying to emulate. We don't have plastic flowers. After dropping $300 for 2 meals we could only come up with one conclusion. We want to thank the management of Blue Hill in Manhattan for saving us the time and much larger cost of going to Stone Barns which previously had been on our bucket list.
I was excited to try Blue Hill after hearing so much about it from a friend who had been there a few times in the past. Finally got a chance last summer when I met up with some friends. One of my friends who had been to Blue Hill a few times made the reservations for us. Unfortunately, unlike many of the reviews here I can't say I was blown away with the entire experience. While I found the food to be quite good, the technique to be excellent, and the presentation to be very elegant, the dinner just wasn't as great as I was expecting it would be. Our table opted for the chef's tasting menu with 2 optional additions. I felt that many ingredients repeated themselves in the different dishes and things started to seem familiar. Overall, we all thought the portions were very small. After the 6th course my stomach started feeling odd. Could I have eaten something bad? Luckily, no. It was then that I realized I was simply just hungry and my stomach was growling, which I found to be super funny! And before you make some kind of unwarranted judgment that I'm some kind of plebian, let me assure you that I am no stranger to fine dining and Michelin-starred experiences. Service was good, with staff quite attentive and polite. Until something must have went off the rails. It was a busy evening, and there was a 40 minute dead zone between our 4th and 5th courses. We pointed this out to our server after about 20 minutes of waiting and she apologized saying that the kitchen was very busy. Yes, I could see that judging by how packed the restaurant was, but it was a weak excuse for a restaurant that prided itself on its service. At the end of the evening, I just didn't feel satisfied. Were my expectations too high or maybe I caught Blue Hill on an off evening? Maybe. Even my friend who was the repeat customer felt our evening fell short. He tried to make light of the situation by saying, "I hope you enjoyed your appetizers at Blue Hill. Now, let me take you to dinner!"
Overall, the entire experience was more on the disappointing side. This is not our first time dining at a "locally sourced ingredients" establishment or a Michelin-starred place. We also tried not to leave any food uneaten, knowing that the products were locally sourced, but this does not reflect our thoughts on the dishes. The meal started on a fun note with different types of cucumbers paired with a green dip that was quite delicious. However, from that point onward, the main course was disappointing, despite the theme of the lunch being French brasserie. The salad and ratatouille were nice, but the mussel dish tasted bitter due to the sauce, and the steak and potato plate was quite dry and rubbery. I've had similar dishes many times before, so it wasn't an issue of trying them for the first time. As for the dessert, it was a large donut with apricot filling. It was served without any utensil to cut it, which might have been fine. However, the donut itself seemed to have been sitting out for a while—the bread tasted oily, and the filling inside was unfortunately quite sour. Even my partner, who usually enjoys all types of desserts, did not enjoy this one. Lastly, regarding the service, everyone was friendly, but given that it was a menu-less place, we would have appreciated some explanation about the dishes without having to ask about each one. We are not sure if we'd like to return to this place, although we might give it another chance since the menu changes seasonally. However, it's a big maybe for now.
We have not been back for years. We tried the family style since this is the only option. The dishes are in the right size for 2 of us. But every dish is on the heavy taste side. I though we would get some seafood dishes but we did not. The dishes that we had are on salty side but the sever was willing to change it for us. Ideally the taste should gradually become heavier but that is the case. The sever provided excellent service. I would say I enjoyed the service than the food. The dessert is bad. Not creative at all. Chain restaurant can do the same dessert or better. To pay $100 per person I hope they can offer more since every table is having the same dish on the same night. We are disappointed!
