Have been trying to find an authentic Italian wine bar after coming back from Italy & this one is perfect. Cutest backyard with very chill vibe. Great wines on the menu as well as apperetivo. Lasagna was awesome & so was the prosciutto crepe. Judy was very knowledgeable about the wine menu, can’t wait to come back!!
super cute. such reasonable prices and lovely vibe. great food and not too busy! go here if you want to have a calm night and escape the city’s chaos and too busy restaurants. wine, olives and cheese with a book is great here on a wednesday.
Highly recommend this cosy and very intimate place, for drinks and a chill time with your friends or partner. The staff is super sweet and professional, they will make you feel at home. Food is delicious the lasagne and crespelle were my favs!
Great wine bar in the area ! They have an outdoor garden where you have a quieter ambiance. Great selection of wine.
Loved all the small plates! unique, tasty and the back garden is super cozy. Don’t miss the pesto bruschettas!
Food was delicious and flavorful! We especially love braised beef ribs and whipped white fish toast.
Forgot how wonderful Gottino is! Currently out in the back enjoying the beautiful weather with AMAZING crostini and a bottle of Rosè. Heaven!
THANK YOU JOSH FOR BEING SUCH A NICE SOUL. We loved our romantic evening and your beautiful manners 🫶🏼
Everything about Gottino is perfect - the food, the wine, the Josh (the guy, not the wine) … but don’t go. Because then it will be crowded and not our home from home in NYC. (No, do go. It’s absolutely brilliant.)
Cozy, candle lit bar, with the most delicious mulled wine for fall/winter. We love it here!
small but nice please I love to come back again the wine and food delicious
Super nice little wine bar, great atmosphere for a couple
Truly some of the best small plates in NYC. Fantastic wine selection and incredible guidance from the staff regarding pairings. Definitely try the ricotta and figs, and their prosciutto is sliced fresh in front of you and is worth every penny. Great date spot, or place to share a bunch of tasty dishes with a group of friends.
Came to read a book and have some Italian food. Was a lovely single person night out.
The service here was really spectacular. It never felt rushed and yet the team attendes to every detail. As one example, plates, crumbs and flatwear were fully cleared before each new course, and yet the service always felt natural and not formal. The atmosphere felt both intimate and welcoming. As a child of the 80s, I couldn't get enough of the soundtrack. Not sure if it is always like this, but it felt like they were playing all the greatest hits of the 80s. Our dinner (bone in ribeye, mashed potatoes and chopped salad) was well prepared in all respects. The food itself was very good, yet not spectacular. Ultimately, the combination of the atmosphere, service and food combined perfectly to offer a delightful experience.
The cutest romantic vibe. Great for a girls night out or a date. Great service. We had the pigs in a blanket for fun and they were good. The chicken peanut salad was amazing. The lobster fettuccini was good but a tad dry and very filling. They don't skimp on the lobster! The baked potato was decent as was the spinach artichoke dip.
What an incredible spot in the West Village! I’d heard the buzz about this restaurant online and about their iconic burger and Peanut Chicken Salad, so of course we had to try both. They were absolutely incredible. The burger truly melts in your mouth, and the Peanut Chicken Salad came in a generous portion, full of flavor and tossed in the perfect amount of dressing. We also tried the café and dirty martinis, and both were great. I highly recommend American Bar to anyone visiting. The atmosphere was exactly what I imagined, and our server was quick and attentive. Just make sure to get a reservation in advance.
Incredible food and service. Buzzing atmosphere. Can’t ask for anything more. Was seated near the bar and swiftly ordered a ton of apps and mains. Lobster Pasta was a big hit. Highly recommend. GM Jeffrey Moreno runs a great restaurant !
I recently dined at The American Bar with a colleague and had an exceptional experience. The artichoke dip was absolutely delicious, and the Spicy Lobster Pasta was a highlight of the meal. The staff were courteous and attentive, providing top-notch service. While the prices were reasonable for the quality of food and service, the liquor prices were a bit steep. Overall, I'd highly recommend The American Bar for its ambiance, service, and cuisine. Perfect for a night out with colleagues or a special occasion.
Always the best dining experience at American Bar! The staff is so amazing and the food is always delicious. Our waiter, Richard, provided our group with the best quality service. He gave us great dinner recommendations and was so friendly. Our group had an unforgettable night, and so much was owed to Richard and the rest of the staff’s hospitality.
For almost a whole year, I walked past this restaurant every single day. It was always packed with customers, and I was curious — but since I was alone, I felt too shy to go in. Now that my project here is coming to an end, I finally decided to step out of my comfort zone and give it a try. I had the lobster pasta and half a salad — both were absolutely delicious! The lobster pasta was perfectly done — the sauce, cherry tomatoes, and lobster were all full of flavor. I only regret not coming here sooner. ———— I just realized—was the tip not directly charged to my card? Should I have left cash on the table instead? I’m terrible sorry. I’ll come by tomorrow to make up for the tip.
Total Score: 9.25 Bathroom: 4.5/5 Nice cozy bathroom. The colors were a bit weird though. Customer Service: 5/5 Frequent refills and checkups. Also the owner of the place came over to greet us cuz it was part of the Bilt credit card thing. Ambiance: 4/5 A bit cramped but pretty nice overall. Food: 4.75/5 Oh my god everything was so delicious and juicy and well seasoned. Portions were perfect even the chips were nice. Only issue is the chocolate sauce for the ice cream was too bitter (and so is the chocolate ice cream) Wow: 1/1 Food was out of this world Total Score = BR + CS + 2*AM + 5*FOOD + WOW
A group of 6 of us came at noon and who knew American Bar is a VIBE for lunch. Ambiance was almost better at lunch, I don't know what it was. I ordered the espresso martini as I know they're GAS here, but immediately regretted it when I tasted someone else's breakfast martini. The fusion of Tito's, Orange Marmalade, and lemon had me feeling like I was sitting on the beach in the South of Italy under a striped umbrella just enjoying my existence. Not Positano though, it gets too crowded. We started with pigs in a blanket and they were straight heat, as they almost always are. They are undebatably one of the most underrated appetizers in the game. Pigs in a blanket gotta be 6th man of the year... The 3 of you that consistently read my reviews know that I'm on a quest to find the best steak frites in the city, so when I seen it on the menu I had to pull the trigger. The 8oz hanger steak came with maitre'd butter and some well done thin fries. Not steak sauce on top thank GOD. When a steak comes with steak sauce, one can't help but wonder what they are hiding. What you scared of? Let that steak be eaten for what it is. The steak came medium rare and was cooked PERFECTLY. Fries were good to but to be honest I am a sucker for some thick cut fries or shoestring fries. One extreme or the other... that's personal preference though. I mean everything kind of a personal preference ahahha. We got the check and headed to the Spaniard as one does after a meal in the West Village. All in all, I have it ranked 3rd on my NYC steak frites ranking behind Virginia's and Pastis. I've only tried like 8 though ahahaha they be expensive. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
We came here on a recommendation and really enjoyed our meal. We ordered the tuna tartare, the pork Milanese, the cheeseburger and the chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich with Oreo crumble. We visited back in Canadian Thanksgiving (October) and I am sad to see the pork Milanese isn't on the menu anymore - I believe the chicken sandwich replaced it but my pork dish was out of this world. Thin, breaded perfectly, NOT overcooked (which is common with amateurs of this dish) and loads of flavour. We also took home leftover because it was HUGE. We were a little underwhelmed by the tuna tartare as it was light and fresh but didn't pack too big a punch with flavour. My husband and I also shared the cheeseburger which was juicy and delicious! We are huge burger fans :) Lastly, the chocolate chip ice cream sandwich - there is something so special about a warm gooey, cookie but with melting, cold ice cream and Oreo bits to add extra flavour. It was a wonderful dessert that had us limping out of the restaurant because we kept insisting we had to finish it. Worth every bite. The service was quick and the restaurant has both indoor and outdoor patio seating. A spot you won't want to miss!
This place gets five stars for two things: our excellent waitstaff and the whipped ricotta appetizer. I don’t know what they season the ricotta with but it was transcendent. The drinks, hip-young atmosphere, and salad burger, and ice cream sandwich we shared were also solid. I would come back, and think this is a cute spot for a date or a nice long catch up with a friend.
My experience at Gottino was very good. It’s a great place to have a conversation — calm, charming, and perfect for a date. It’s not noisy, which makes it even more enjoyable. This bar serves only beer and wine (no cocktails). We ordered some olives with our drinks, which were nice. I recommend it if you’re looking for a chill, quiet spot to have a drink before dinner. Prices are “normal” for NYC, though a bit on the expensive side.
Delicious Italian small plates in a cozy West Village spot. We came in on a Sunday night for dinner and got a table for 3 people without any problem. We tried 2 crostinis, the white fish and the brussel sprouts salad. We particularly enjoyed the crostinis. The staff was so friendly. Looking forward to coming back and sitting in the garden!
Stumbled across this place before a dinner reservation for a quick drink. A lovely dark intimate feel, cant wait to come back with my husband or small group of friends to try the food.
Cute space and a friendly staff. If your like Italian wine you’ll love it here. I was surprised to see they have a little outdoor space in the back. Great place for a date or a girls night.
Outstanding venue with great service and good food. 👍👍 Seated outside at a white clothed table. Very relaxing with great vibes coming off the other patrons. My cheese burger looked small but was packing a thick texture of beef. The highlight was the herb salmon burger which my date ordered and was twice the size. Unfortunately no beers on tap for brunch, but you can order a Bellini or Mimosa for $16. Easy metered parking in front for $4 hour. Greenwich is definitely bourgeoisie. Very packed young BEAUTIFUL crowd. Overall a wonderful experience. The gorgeous Maitre D at the door was very welcoming and pleasant in a striking fuchsia dress. Did not have a reservation but we were seated immediately. Thank you🙏🏻
Super cute atmosphere and touch. Went out with a couple of friends and really really loved it. Started out with the ricotta, the salad, and a martini. Really loved the whipped ricotta and the dressing of the salad. For entree split the cod and the salmon. My favorite was the cod- cooked really well and good portion size. We ended we sticky toffee pudding which was ok but really enjoyed everything else. Service was amazing and definitely recommend.
This is a cute place, but the experience was ruined by lack of service. As soon as we walked in the host/waitress seemed annoyed to greet or seat us even though the restaurant was 80% empty. She was rude throughout the entire service, she clearly didn’t want to be there. On top of that their payment systems starts the tip setting at 20%. I should be tipping minimum 20% for non-existent scornful service? The food and wine is delicious. The crostini and the crepes were super tasty. This place needs to improve their service if they want patrons back.
So unpleasant experience. I went to celebrate my friend's birthday 5 people, we were waiting for the previous clients to leave so we can sit on a table, then suddenly another woman sits right away claiming that it was her birthday and that she and her friends will be sitting there. None of the waiters step in to solve the inconvenience; one waitress stopped by and asked us to move to another table without enough space to sit. They never listened to us or made anything to understand and come with a solution. I will never go again, and I do believe the staff is completely unhelpful and useless.
Walked in at about 9 o’clock with my wife and 9 year old daughter on a freezing NYC night. Knowing that it’s a popular place, I asked, “any chance you’ve got room for three?” The hostess started laughing at us…and instead of politely saying no, she continued by pointing to the people in the bar and saying they all want to sit down too. My daughter didn’t understand what was so funny. It was the single most off putting hostess experience I’ve had. American Bar may think they are cool because of TikTok or a few celebrity sightings, but anyone with children should steer clear.
