Opinions de Madame Sousou Astoria
I could sit here every morning, it’s such a warm environment. Their quiche is the best I’ve ever had, and the staff are amazing people.
1st cup of coffee I had here was excellent Right now I’m having my 351st cup of coffee here and it’s the same. like every previous one. Best coffee in NYC Excellent
Kind of a hole in the wall cafe. Very tasty cake and pretty good coffee. Pretty popular, but usually not too crowded. A fun place to get a snack and a drink.
Some items are a little bit overpriced but I love the place and the vibes! Great cute breakfast place in the neighborhood! Love to come here on the weekends!
I lived on 33rd but somehow never made it here until I moved. Very tasty coffee, great baked goods, nicest staff and very cool space.
Really cozy spot with comfortable seating. Delicious coffees, aromatic teas, and delightful pastries. Great music playlist and plenty of outside seating.
Cozy cafe offering assorted pastries with several vegan options, coffee, and teas. The place is small and people tend to lounge about for a bit. There indoor and outdoor seating, free WiFi, and a bathroom to the left of the counter. I highly recommend their unsweetened iced teas.
Tres magnifique! My favorite cafe in Astoria. Owner remembered what I ordered the second time I came in. Turns out he has one of those amazing memories. Very friendly spot and good croissants.
Ahmad the guy who makes coffee for us was so nice. He explained where and how the coffee was made. And the coffee he was so good. 5 out of 5 will come back. The food looks good but I did not try it.
My favorite coffee shop! A friend of mine introduced me to this place & I don’t enjoy the coffee as much as I do here. Not noisy, but quiet & patrons are just as nice & welcoming as the staff. 🎖
My office away from home. Reliable wifi, amazing service, great food and coffee. You always find a seat to relax and bonus points for having one of the most eclectic playlists I have heard.
This cafe feels like a step into a Parisian patisserie. There is a strident effort to ensure that the best pastries are available to guests. The decor is a perfect mix of glam and cute, which gives the cafe a relaxing feel whether you’re there for a light brunch or to get work done.
This is my favorite cafe in New York. Espresso is perfect and not watered down like most places in the city - thick crema and reasonably priced at $2.25 for a single shot. The almond croissant is a great choice. .
Favorite coffee shop in Astoria. Love the vibe and their weekend donuts are the best. Don't be surprised if you hear tables speak in various European languages! Top tier coffee shop
Over my stay in Astoria, I think I came here at least 3 times, their Turkish pastries were a lifesaver for comfort food, plus their excellently crafted lattes can be made non dairy with a variety of nut milks or oat. Yum! Fairly priced, they have seating and free WiFi but it was shoulder room only each time.
Love their coffee and the guys inside are always smiling and giving good vibes. I see their truck 5am in the mornings on my way to the gym baking fresh pastries and they’re always waving hi to me. 10/10 would recommend!!!
Best coffee in a diluted area where caffeine has become trendy. I Adore the Greek attendants and they always suggest a new pastry option while making the best latte in the neighborhood. It reminds me of the old Greek coffee/dinner place on 30th.
Really delicious chorizo quiche. Cute outdoor space.
The house drip coffee ☕ and espresso ⚡are my top picks. The enclosed outdoor seating makes visiting friends or working on laptop very enjoyable. Excellent service.
Astoria is lucky to have such a welcoming and open cafe that has both indoor and outdoor seating to accommodate its "WFH" population. Great drinks and even better desserts to go along with them..
Best coffee in Astoria love and espresso shot over ice
Update: it's been two years since my original review. My family and I love this place, the quality, ambiance and service is great. I would go out of my way to come here This place is adorable & charming in every way. From the seating outdoors and the decore inside to the delicious coffee, sandwiches, and pastries. You'll find plenty of people enjoying themselves while reading chatting or working on there laptop. The staff is incredibly friendly and I'm glad to have stopped by will be back soon.
Super cute little cafe with delicious coffee and snacks. Great prices and make good spots to work remotely. Really adored by the locals Would definitely recommend
The staff here knows how to treat its customers. You are not rushed, are treated with respect and actually better than family- as family can take advantage of you. Further, the products are fresh, innovative and well priced. Relaxed New York City and Queens enclave.
Great home made pastries.bring your laptop and chill.
Excellent atmosphere, Delicious coffee, and Melt-In-Your-Mouth croissants. Baristas were quick to take my order and get it to me. Plus, part of the floor is made of pennies. Really awesome place for anything from meeting friends to having a nice breakfast and reading a book.
Amazing pastries, great coffee!
Very friendly and welcoming staff! They have indoor and outdoor dining. Great spot to relax. I mostly come here for the hot beverages, but I hope to try their pastries one day. Highly recommended!
If I want to have a little me time with a cup of coffee, I usually come here if I nearby. I had a small cappuccino with almond milk (NO EXTRA CHARGE for the almond milk!!! Big plus) and sometimes I buy a sweet pastry (all the pastries are sooooo delicious and fresh) - some pastries are even homemade 😊 They have WiFi, clean bathroom and nice indoor outdoor seatings.
Full service cafe patisserie tucked on a quiet side street, boasting moist quiche and delectable sweet and savory bread products and a gamut of beverages from the main line (Lavazza cafe latte) to the sidebar (turmeric latte, machta latte). Charmimg decor makes it a feast for the eyes and the stomach. Can't wait to return!
A friend of mine, who’s a fellow dog lover, introduced me to this cafe about three months ago. It’s a rare gem—truly dog-friendly, which is harder to find than you’d think. Even though I don’t have a dog myself, I find myself coming back here regularly. It’s a bit out of my way, but at least a couple of times a week, I make a point to stop by for their delicious coffee and absolutely divine pastries. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and it’s always a treat to see happy dogs around. Highly recommend for both pet owners and coffee lovers alike!
My best friend and I stumbled across this cozy gem when another nearby cafe didn't have any available seats. Thank goodness because we really enjoyed this place. We both got tea to stay and were given our own teapots. We were able to get a lot of work done on our laptops. Staff was friendly and charming. They recommended we try the key lime pie. We're typically not into lime-flavored desserts, but we were sold. The green crystal sprinkles really added to it :) We'll be back!
When I was studying for board exams I came here everyday 9-5pm sometimes earlier, and sometimes stay later. I would get myself a quiche and coffee and hunker down to study all day and eat lunch there too. Service was always really great. Now I’m working as a clinician and still come here regularly for the mushroom quiche but also can’t go wrong with any of the flavors. Also try their baked goods, especially any of the house-made cakes which a local recommended and pretty great too. Their expresso is excellent too!! They recently renovated the interior so here’s how it looks now. I would highly recommend coming here!
I absolutely love this place! The coffee is always amazing, rich and flavorful. The staff is super friendly and welcoming, and they always make me feel at home. A special shout-out to the girl who works here – she’s truly exceptional, always polite, attentive, and makes the whole experience even better. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who wants great coffee and great service!
Madame Sousou is a cozy coffee shop with a fresh, vibrant personality. It’s the ideal place to relax and enjoy an amazing cup of coffee. The atmosphere is inviting, and the coffee is brewed to perfection. Don’t miss their delicious simit and croissant, which pair wonderfully with your drink. Friendly staff and warm hospitality make it a top spot for unwinding or catching up with friends.
Tried out this place through TGTG: Pick up process was very smooth, and the owner was very friendly. I got a mix of sweet and savory pastries and everything was really good 👍🏼 I also got a chai tea latte and I loved it! Looked around the place while I was at it and I really liked the atmosphere too. Will be coming back :)
This place has some soul. Vibes reminded me of cafes in Paris but unfortunately NYC’s COVID huts don’t really do the outdoor spaces justice. Food and drinks are good, slightly pricey. Probably wouldn’t go for the simit sandwich next time. Unfortunately you will probably be subject to second hand smoke while you’re there, similar to other euro style cafes in Astoria, but that’s part of the experience I guess.
This is probably the most charming cafe in Astoria. From the welcoming indoor decor to the outdoor seating options, Madame Sousou is the place to go to have a coffee and pastry, and unwind. Also, it's ideal for people watching if you sit outside. The service is second to none. The staff here are very warm and friendly! I ordered an iced cafe latte which was actually one of the best I had! I didn't get the pastries and sandwiches here, but they looked amazing. I'll definitely return!
Love their French bistro inspired music! So quirky and great. Had a ice cafe latte, it was good! My mom order the quiche and green tea. She really likes both. I will definitely be popping in more especially since their outdoor dinning is so nice. You’re right by the trees and everything. If I wasn’t doing a carb free diet this month I would’ve had their cheese cake. It looked so delicious!!
Gluten free coffee cake and muffins plus a wide variety of teas in a cozy spot. I would sit in there for hours if the chairs were cushioned!
Sweet spot. The croissants are from Balthzar and the donuts from the Donut Plant. It's so nice to have these delectable bites in the neighborhood. Can get very loud at times and smoking is not prohibited, so the patio during the summer can be delightful or a turn-off.
Super cute place, with friendly staff. I got an iced latte here, and they used a milkshake blender to froth up the drink so it’d be foamy like a hot latte. The pastries are also pretty good, too.
Cute coffee shop, as tiny as can be. Which means it's cozy, but can also feel over crowded. Good coffee. Decent place to come read or do some work, but bring headphones for sure and be warned that the wifi doesn't always work.
I love their coffee and the staff is awesome, but they need to update their hours on Google. They close at 8 not 9, so we came for nothing. Other than that, this place is great, and I highly recommend them!
Great ambiance. Delicious key lime pie. People are always devouring their food with their eyes while they eat. Good coffee hot& iced. This place is adorable no privacy you're close to others & if outside...you are near traffic.
Used to be a great place to get work done. Now the seating and vibe rush you out. Still a solid choice for coffee, good service and pretty good food. The quiches are excellent and the donut plant pastries are clutch.
My gluten free banana walnut muffin was super tasty! The blueberry muffin was pretty decent but not nearly as amazing. They taste so good that I'm a little worried that they're not gluten free. My wife loved her glutinous rhubarb pastry and enjoyed her chai latte. My iced mocha was just ok but I'd come back just for the muffin and fun decor.
Madame Sousou Cafe Layout/atmosphere *Three tables inside, bakery display case; decorative plates on wall; tables enclosed on sidewalk; enclosed outdoor dining structure in street Food/drink *Tomato feta quiche - solid; crust wasn’t too flaky or too hard *Blueberry donut (yeast) - good *Complimentary water cooler
Needs better organization, and prices for their drinks. The drink I ordered was horrible - mostly just tasted like milk for almost $7. At least the employee was nice
Pretty good coffee spot. I just came to say that they have a fabled ginger mint lemonade that is delicious when you can get it. But out of the 15 times I've gone here they've had it twice. I usually get a consolation donut from their weekend only selection of doughnut plant donuts.
Thought place was going to be better. Coffee is pretty okay, I’ve had better coffees elsewhere. It’s an okay place. What it really stressed me out is the hustle to find a table, it’s a very big deal to get one where youll be freezing cold.
I had enjoy coffee there in several occasions and it's delicious, the vibe is very nice and pastries are really good. The only think I dislike about my last visit was that people sitting next to me where allow to smoke while on the tables. I thought the waiter where going to say something since there's a sign of "No smoking " but to my surprise the person working there started smoking with the customers as well. Eating while breathing cigarette smoke is not a pleasant experience.
I love this place but not the prices ! Great coffee and quiche the almond cake and key lime Pie delicious ! Bohemian relaxed atmosphere with outlets to plug your computer and work ! Trees all around gives it a nice feel very relaxing but the prices are steep in my opinion -
I go here couple of times a month especially in summer time when they have 31st avenue closed down. Today was a complete disappointment. Ordered cappuccino that had 0 coffee in it. All it was, is milk. Shame.
To drink Coffee and stop by a coffee store is an inseparable part of our daily basis. It relieves weary body , strict soul and helps to stay one step ahead of reality and guide your thinking to insight in an artistically meaningful and engaging way .
The vibe of this place makes you to sit and enjoy it, but the taste of coffee wasn’t quite making me to do so as it was not bad but not good enough to try it again next time. Astoria is, sadly, becoming like Manhattan where even a mediocre place has a chance & I haven’t found any place in Astoria to want to visit again.
Americano ≠ drip coffee. Overpriced.
It’s a chic cafe, but the quality of their beverages has decreased in the last few years. There is plenty of seating and the ambiance is great, but, unfortunately, the staff has an unfriendly and unwelcoming demeanor. The baked goods and pastries are a home run though. If you want good baked goods, definitely stop by, but skip the spot if you want quality beverages or if you do not want to deal with unfavorable staff.
Ordered a chocolate with almond milk & it was very very bland. Felt like I was drinking watered down almond milk :/
I used to love this place, I would go often and I had good relationships withe baristas. All the baristas were very suddenly fired by the super rude manager. I was still going, but they changed the charming interior to a trashy looking cafe, with AI slop and everything.
I rarely visit this place but when I do it’s for the quiche. During my infrequent visits I’m always so disappointed by the service. First time I went I asked for my quiche warmed up and packed to-go. The employee gave it to me on a plate. I asked again to pack it to-go. She looked around and said they’re out of containers and put it directly into a paper bag and gave it to me. I reminded her I wanted it warmed so she put it into their toaster oven. Several minutes later another employee took it out of the oven, put it in a container that they apparently did have sitting right by the rest of the supplies on the shelf and gave it to me. I finally left and when I opened it a few mins later I saw that they had completely burnt the outside. Second time I visited several months later, I asked the staff about the flavors they have and a man offhandedly told me. Since it’s different flavors this time I asked what’s in it and he rudely repeated the name of the flavors again. Again I ask for it warmed up and packed to-go. He ‘warms’ it in the toaster oven and when I leave with it and try having it a couple mins later, I see that it’s still completely cold. The flavor of the quiche is really good but the bad service isn’t worth my patronage.
This place is okay. The food and beverage are above average, but this is essentially a smokers hangout. Despite signs posted saying not to smoke it reeks of cigarettes. Such a shame.
Cozy coffe shop with friendly staff, BUT one star because they use the worst coffee possible: Lavazza. I won't come back unless they change it to a better quality coffee, not a supermarket brand.
Worst coffee I have ever had and very old, undercooked pastries. Also absolutely no social distancing, customers leaning over me with no masks or care for those around them, smoking right next to me and blowing the smoke in my face.
Good coffee but I saw a worker drop a pair of tongs on the floor and proceed to use the same pair of tongs (without washing) to give a customer a baked item. Extremely unhygienic.
Cashier saw me waiting to order in front but decided to spend the next 2 minutes counting money. He only stopped after he was told by someone else that there’s a customer waiting. He then got my order wrong after he rushed to make the drink before I finished my sentence (left out the latter half of my order). I found this to be extremely rude. There are other baristas who work here who are friendlier.
DO NOT get the hot chocolate tasted so bland like milk and barely a flavor of chocolate. Wouldve had a better flavor with a Swiss miss packet…. truly very disappointing!
Edit: halfway through my drink I had to throw it out and I came back to 1 star this because you best spend your money elsewhere Cortado tastes like water down milk and for $6 and a rude attitude can do better basically anywhere else. At least it’s got more of the local vibe to it and not some IG pretty looking cafe
