Opinions de Mighty Oak Roasters Astoria
I have ADHD and it helps me to work alongside other people in a creative ambiance with other friendly, focused people; that is what you will find at Mighty Oak. I highly recommend the Iced Oat milk Cappuccino and cannot stress the FAST and high quality customer service you will find from the whole Oak crew; especially the morning crew. They are reliable and the best part of waking up; forget folgers.
This is the best cafe on the planet. The vibes, the coffee and the FABULOUS customer service. I come here ever day and I have never received attitude from anyone who works here: Aria, Aiden, Matt, Jane, Billy, Jo, Jules, Aguel, Angel, Macaela, Kendall, and Shanonn! I've befriended them all! Do not take note of any negative comments I legitimately come here every morning because it starts my day on such a sunny high note
I have been coming here nearly every single day for the last 5 years, won't go anywhere else in Astoria for coffee if I can help it! High quality coffee, great service and staff.
Excellent wood-roasted coffee without a boujee price tag. If you’re going to try your cup of joe without sugar or milk, this is the place.
Some of the best local coffee in the neighborhood. Cool shop that supports local business and charities, friendly baristas, and great drinks. I've heard some friends complain about the "burnt flavor" of the wood roasted coffee but those philistines just want sugar with a side of caffeine. Try it if you're here. It's good stuff.
This place makes some very good coffees and espresso. The best part though is their beans. I really enjoy my home pourovers and their beans are the best ones local to the city that I've had. Their house blend is excellent and they have good single origins as well.
So thankful to have this place in the neighborhood. The coffee is fantastic and I always enjoy the friendly service. It’s been fun getting to try some of their seasonal stuff they add on the menu during the fall and winter too. I would kinda like to see them start offering some fresh/not pre-packaged baked goods but at least the options they do have are sourced from another local Astoria bakery.
Delicious coffee! I go there often, the beans are roasted in house, with many varieties available. Before the pandemic they hosted several events and were happy to share their coffee knowledge, hopefully that can return some day. The current window ordering and pick up is efficient and the quality of the coffee is always consistent and tasty. I've also sent coffee to friends and family as well, they marvel at the unique character the wood-roasted technique imparts. Can't get enough!
My favorite cafe in Astoria. The staff is so nice and the vibe is always cozy with good music. Drinks and pastries are good
Great coffee, great vegan muffins and the workers are cool too, very down to earth. I like the way the place is setup and the idea of wood roasted coffee. You can taste the difference for sure. Keep up the good work guys!!
I've only ever used the take-out window and I've not had their food, but the coffee is excellent and the espresso drinks are top-notch. Perfect for grabbing a cup and taking a walk through Astoria Park.
Mighty Oak was one of the first places I visited when I moved to Astoria in 2019, when they were still offering indoor seating. Fast forward to 3 years later, and I’m still a regular! Through the pandemic and after, they have not once compromised on their quality. And though I’m not as close to the shop as I was when I moved in 2019, I think the drinks, the baked goods, and the service is very worth my 20-min walk to the shop from home. And even if you don’t drink coffee, they have really good iced/hot chocolate drinks, matcha lattes, and teas! Take it from my boyfriend — he lives in London and the only coffee shop he wants to go to when he visits NYC is Mighty Oak!! Mighty Oak is a gem, not only in Astoria, but in the city!!
One of my favorite coffee shops in the city, and I've been to over 200+ here in NY
IMHO this place has the best coffee beans available in Queens definitely and maybe all of NYC. It's close to the Beer Gardens. The owners and staff take a lot of pride in their product. All roasting takes place in house with wood. Have a question about the product? They are glad to answer it in detail. Check it out.
Had the best experience here. Amazing coffee and friendly staff!
Best coffee place around, the fact there is always a small queue of local people in front is a sign if goodness. Try different coffee beans they roast, they're all great with a preference for the Sasaba, an Ethiopian roast just perfect. They do indicate on each bag when it was roasted, it is a great indication on the freshness of your beans, and surely something you won't find everywhere. Will go back again and again !
Nothing feels better than grabbing an iced latte from Mighty Oak in a cool morning. Their beans are just as amazing as their service. Whether you're stopping by for a quick sip or staying in to be more productive, Mighty Oak is there with fresh brewed coffee and fast wifi.
Coffee 1000/10! I wish I loved the croissant but it’s too oily. The orange poppy loaf is good. I’ll give the other pastries a try.
First time trying the coffee 10/10! Iced mocha that ive tried in the past tastes too bitter and this place has the perfect mix of coffee and sweetness. Will definitely be coming back to try more.
Love this spot! One of my favorite coffee places in Astoria. Usually, grab a Cortado with an extra shot of espresso. Have yet to have received a burnt coffee from here yet! It's worth the time to stop in and poke your head in!
It’s rare to say when a coffee shop is truly unique, and this one is. There is a wood fire roster in the back where they prepare their own beans fresh. The space is elegantly designed. The baristas are welcoming, kind and professional. The coffee itself tastes delicious. You wish you could give 6 stars.
Love this coffee so much I order it delivered to me even when I head down South for the winter... I've used several of their beans for making espresso and have yet to be disappointed...quite the opposite!!
Fantastic coffee- probably the best I’ve had in Astoria so far. Cute cozy atmosphere
Fabulous place for a nice coffee whenever the time allows you to wind down. There is a take away window so you can quickly order from the sidewalk if not wanting to go inside which is a great addition. I am not a big fan of the food/bakery items here, because I find them a little dry. But they're mostly glutenfree which is fabulous. All in all such a fabulous part of the neighborhood.
Something for everyone at this gorgeous coffee shop. I love to go on Sundays for the free coffee bar tastings. Jake is so helpful and informative. Best coffee shop/roaster in Astoria!!!
Great coffee, great staff, great atmosphere. They know what they're doing in there. It's a cozy little woodsy-feeling corner spot. Definitely going back! I got the chance to buy and try a couple bags of their beans recently, and I can confidently say they're the best in the neighborhood by far.
Best beans in the area and usually plenty of light roasts. That said, I wish their drip coffee were lighter and their espresso darker. Also, it’s gotta be said, the baked goods are uniformly terrible - time for a new supplier.
Really good place, excellent espresso drinks especially - free still and sparkling water on tap - great benches outside
Love this coffee shop – the window is super convenient for picking up drinks and pastries when I'm walking my dog, and they have benches to sit outside. They also sell bags of beans roasted in-house (the dark roast is great).
The BEST cappuccinos and the BEST staff!! The baristas are top notch. They are trained to perfection because it really doesn’t matter who makes my oat milk cappuccino, it tastes just right every time. I’m so happy I get to start my day here each morning before heading into the office. A warm comfort.
They roast the coffee using a wood fire burner! Everything is awesome and Kendall is a roast master! Their espresso is an Italian envy! Great place to chill and sip delicious coffee. They have also decaf options. Awesome atmosphere!
Went searching for coffee shops in Astoria when kinship was closed. Let me tell u, the latte was the amazing. Great espresso and froth to the milk. Th interior design and atmosphere is very relaxing. Bye bye kinship hello Mighty oak.
Perfect espresso! strongly recommend I will just share my personal opinion, too many people with Laptops using someone else’s space for their office. I rarely get chance to sit, because It’s occupied by laptops. And those people sit there for 8 hours, and they buy just 1 drink. Not fair
The HOT CHOCOLATE is one of the best in AQ and the CHOCOLATE DONUT is off the hook
Was drawn in by the 2.95 hot chocolate - when I saw that they used powder I immediately understood why, but to my surprise I didn't mind! Had a nice deep chocolate flavor, unlike cheap instant chocolate powders, and it wasn't too sweet. Barista also steamed milk for my chocolate. Very reasonable price, and barista was friendly. I'll be back!
Mighty Oak is the kind of neighborhood coffee shop that earns its place in your routine. I stop by almost every morning, and they finally remember my order, which makes the day start a little better. The staff are kind, even when rushed and always provide a wonderful experience. I wake up thinking about my first sip of coffee. The coffee itself is exceptional. Their wood roasted beans have this deep, smooth flavor that’s hard to describe but easy to crave. I buy their beans to use at home, both for drip and espresso, because once you’ve had Mighty Oak, other coffee starts to taste flat. Even though I find myself there nearly every morning, it’s also comforting to know we have mighty oak at home, in case craving strikes. The autumn spiced latte is my go-to sweet treat. A seasonal delight, balanced, not too sweet, with just enough warmth to feel cozy without trying too hard. The to-go window is another favorite touch, making it the perfect destination for while I’m walking with my dog. Inside, it’s small and inviting, the kind of place that smells like roasted beans and wood, with quiet music and regulars who nod hello. It feels personal without being performative. Mighty Oak is proof that good coffee and good people can make a place feel like home.
Some of the best coffee in queens. Love the iced mocha and scones! Hard to find a seat, alot of people do work here
#CeliacReviews: Extensive menu, excellent coffee, great service and atmosphere with a lot of wood elements to match the name. They were able to verify that the Turkish chili chocolate was gluten-free for me. They also serve a variety of individually wrapped pastries from the dedicated gluten-free bakery Sans Bakery.
Great space to get a coffee to go on your way to the subway or stay and work. Good coffee, lots of windows for natural light, several outlets along the bench for your computer and light music so that you can actually think. We were looking for a coffee shop to work at near the airport and this spot was perfect. Lots of places to grab coffee but most shops are too small or not a good space to work and some don't have restrooms for customers! This place hit all the marks. They have oatmilk and seasonal coffee drinks which I love. I tried their matcha and I also tried their autumn spice latte. Both Excellent Ran out of vegan baked goods but they've only been open a couple weeks. Definitely check them out!
I love love love the espresso from this cafe. You know when you get an espresso over ice from a place and it’s completely bitter? Well that’ll never happen over there. It is simply the most amazing coffee that I’ve ever tasted. Those beans are 10/10. The service is also 10/10 everyone is just so nice. I highly recommend.
One of my absolute favorite local cafe. Great high quality coffee with good variations of basic drinks and fancy stuffs. Their local roast beans are insanely good too. Great spot to bring computer and work / study as people around there are usually quiet and trying to get work done. They also have power socket under every seat.
Always a pleasant experience. Cosy vibe with a personality. I appreciate the energetic baristas, especially when I'm groggy. The coffee with a hint of woody smokiness stands out in a sea of overly acidic or burnt coffee in the neighborhood. It is definitely my go-to for the Ditmars area.
Mighty Oak roaster always has an inflow of customers. A large reason is that their prices are comparable to other coffee spots, but they also have a large variety of offerings. I personally prefer their iced chai latte (good amount of spice and flavor) but their regular coffee is quite strong as well (cold brew). I primarily come here to do work and study, it is a very nice and relaxed atmosphere. The staff are friendly and actually seem happy to be there, which brings the overall vibe up in my opinion. They also have a sparkling water fountain which is a game changer that I wish other places would have. Highly recommend coming here if you’re looking to relax, study or just vibe. They also have power outlets and their store is very well maintained and cleaned (including the bathroom).
Absolutely lovely people and service. The coffee is fantastic. Slightly over extracted but nonetheless very tasty roasts they offer. The atmosphere is also very lovely. I wish they had more consistency with their machinery (grinders and other equipment) overall beautiful 3rd space. Love to see these places succeed.
It took them long enough but they finally dumped the nasty bench flour no blueberries in my blueberry muffin pastries and now serve pastries from masa madre! Absolutely no complaints now ♡ First review: The coffee is good and since they re opened indoor seating it’s a nice place to hang out or get work done, save for a few times the music is loud and distracting. My major issue is that their pastries are not very good. I know that they get them from a local bakery and don’t make them in house but i think its time they explore another supplier. I got a croissant and it was inedible, just stale and greasy from sitting in the plastic and costs about $5 after the tax. The muffins are sometimes dry and sometimes fresh but you will get a blueberry muffin with 2 blueberries or a banana muffin with only the smallest pieces of nuts and no banana taste. t’s disappointing because I like having something to eat with my coffee.
Clean tasty cup of coffee, staff was flying out the orders so even though there's a line, it moves quickly. Great bean selection to bring home and the pick up window for passerby foot traffic is super convenient.
The best of the best coffee. I come consistently to buy a bag of their coffee beans for home, and even buy them as gifts for others. I typically come to the shop during peak hours and even so, the staff here are warm and greet you with a smile. A wonderful and cherished neighborhood staple. Thank you!
The best coffee in all of nyc & the best, most welcoming staff. They just starting selling masa madre pastries in the morning. Dangerously good. 10/10
Speaking as someone who worked in other neighborhood cafes, Mighty Oak has no doubt the best espresso and general coffee around. I particularly love that all the utensils, cups and straws included are compostable and how warm the interior of the shop is (and that the staff tends to mask!). Although the other day I brought some beans and had the barista grind them for me only to have them end up a bit too coarse. I hope this can be remedied some way.
Mighty Oak is such a gem!!! the moment you walk in, you instantly feel the charm of a small roaster’s café that’s both cute and effortlessly hip. It has that cozy, modern vibe that makes you want to linger with a book or catch up with a friend over a perfectly brewed cup. The design details and warm atmosphere really give it an uptown Astoria feel!! stylish yet approachable, neighborhood-driven yet elevated. The coffee is smooth, rich, and clearly roasted with care, and the whole space has a character that feels unique and special. It’s one of those spots that makes you fall in love with the local café scene all over again
Loved it, and it was a totally surprise find while jogging to Astoria Park on a work visit. The wood roasting adds an element you'll never find at a big chain. I didn't see vegan signs, but the scones were perfectly dense and crumbly. Friendly, relaxed staff. Plants and lifting set a classic coffee shop vibe.
I want to give this place 5 stars and I will tell you why. But first I would like to describe the atmosphere. Came here on a cold fall day around 3pm. I have passed by before and noted that I needed to check this place out. The name of the shop 'Mighty Oak' intrigued me. I like how the shop looks from the outside. Earthtones, corner door. Very welcoming. I go inside and feel the vibe. Very quiet. Very studious. Very chill. Kinda bohemian. Like everyone has their head down in a book or on their phone why music plays in the background. The order: Latte (Hot) 2% no sugar as always. Taste: I like the rich taste of the espresso beans. The temperature is on point. Not too hot, not too warm. So I like everything about this place. Down to the stickers and the choice of complimentary sparkling water or fresh. I could see myself sitting here next time with the book and a cold brew perhaps. Looks enticing in the jugs on the counter. Alas, there was no seats so I left. Even the bench outside had people. 5 stars for the Atmosphere/ vibe, and the excellent coffee.
Mighty Oaks is one of my favorite neighborhood spots in Astoria. The iced latte, as well as lemon cake, were excellent. The staff were attentive and it's a great spot to reflect solo or catch up with a friend. I also appreciate the tap and sparkling water available for patrons. Definitely a regular spot for me.
This cafe is now one of our must visits in Astoria. The coffee was super delicious and prices were very reasonable. We love any cafes that avoid single use cups and they were very accommodating. Would highly recommend anyone visiting the neighborhood and try out their coffee. Also biker friendly as they have a to go window!
Fantastic corner coffee shop! Amazing drinks especially their Mocha, hot chocolate and espresso! Super friendly staff and ambience of the shop. No dinning in but I’m not upset! If you come once you’ll become a loyal customer forever! We go from quite far away now just because we lived nearby once!
The outside line was long but ordering was pretty quick. The service was okay unfortunately they forgot to put the 1/2 & 1/2 as I requested. Aside from that, the coffee was okay. I ordered an Americano which I expected to be a little bit stronger. I would recommend some soft music for your customers that are outside waiting patiently. Next time I visit I will take photos and upload with my next review.
Great place for coffee with a unique taste with wood fire roasting. Staffs are mostly great, however they mixed up my milk a few times and gave me regular milk instead of oat milk which I asked for. As we speaking my lactose intolerance is making me suffer at the moment since I got a cortado with regular milk instead of oat milk.
Good vibes. Lots of outlets if you can get a seat. Reasonable prices.
Cool coffee cafe. Mighty Oak Roasters is not your typical shop. They care about the earth and practice sustainability. Instead of roasting their beans conventionally with fossil fuel they utilize a wood burning method. So how’s the coffee? It’s damn good! Smooth, not bitter and full of flavor. They also offer tea if you’re not feeling coffee some days. You can also have something to eat with your beverage as they have a variety of baked goods.
The coffee is good and the space is nice, but they really need a toaster for the pastries. It’s the only coffee shop I’ve been to that doesn’t have one, and because of that the pastries come out hard instead of warm and fresh. Adding a toaster would make a big difference.
Maybe the best coffee in this part of Astoria. If you judge from a cup of regular coffee then Mighty Oak is outstanding. Great atmosphere and a pleasant, professional staff make this a welcoming place that I will gladly return to anytime. Nice stop before a walk up the block to Queen's Ink.
Awesome pastries, really good coffee. Usually get iced oat matcha or iced oat latte. Lemon poppy and mixed berry loaf are amazing. Majority of the staff are pretty chill and nice. Good music and all together a relaxed space. Aiden has a snarky attitude, Not really into getting an attitude when I’m paying $20 + tip for coffee every time I order from him.
The coffee quality is good, and usually the customer service is decent however this morning I ordered & paid for a 20 oz coffee and I received a 16 oz coffee. The attendant at the window was imeshed in conversation with the prep person in the back-they were not really paying attention and I felt like they "disinterested" in being there- I was trying to holding on to my dog, so I didn't notice until a few blocks away that they hadn't give me the correct size. I'm disappointed that I paid for something that I did not receive and that customer service was lacking- For the cost of the coffee, I think I'll think twice before purchasing again.
I've tried here twice and haven't had a wow experience. It's kinda expensive in relation to the quality and amount of coffee you get. Both times, the baristas have been chatting between themselves while serving me. Overall, I wouldn't be rushing back.
the coffee was okay. I think the atmosphere would have made the experience a lot better, but obviously with the current climate that’s not an option. The donuts were vegan and were not good at all. They were pre-packaged and not fresh and they tasted like medicine. Went to the Barn right after to make up for it with some Dough Vegan donuts! Also the staff wasn’t rude, but they also weren’t nice and made me feel rushed even though no one was there. We walked like a half hour to go and felt disappointed.
I really wanted to like this place, but they did not have single origin coffee drinks available when I went with a friend. He ended up ordering a matcha. I end up ordering plain drip coffee served out of a thermos. The weird thing is that they did offer to sell me bags of their single origin coffee. Disappointing. What is the point of calling yourself a roaster if you can't even offer people a taste of some single origin? It is a big disappointment for anyone who come here expecting to try some unique beans/brews.
Great matcha & coffee - terrible customer service. I go to this place every morning before my run and the service is a good or terrible. The staff has an attitude and is upset most of the time while taking the order. I can’t even ask a question without an attitude and being condescending. Aiden consistently has an attitude and I’ve seen this happen to other people as well.
A modest proposal: I really like the coffee at Mighty Oak and I like the interior as well. However, I wish that the young people who use it as a work from home office would be willing to share their table. Instead, the norm is to take the seat on the bench side against the wall, put your bag or jacket on the seat opposite, and then get lost in your laptop. So once again, when I arrived today with a friend, we ended up going elsewhere because we wanted to sit with our coffee and, this may shock most of the patrons, have a conversation with each other. The last time I met my friend here, while I was waiting for him to arrive, I was waiting to get a seat and it looked like all the tables were taken. However, I did notice a couple who was sitting opposite each other had moved one of the tables next to theirs, and had put their jackets and also some food they had ordered on the table next to them. When I politely asked if these seats were taken, the man said, “ yes, we have our stuff here.” I replied that I would like to use the table. He said why don’t you take one of the other seats and ask someone else to move their stuff? I said I was expecting a friend and we needed a table for two. He reluctantly moved his stuff. My suggestion to management is that they put signs on the tables to ask people to share the space. There is no reason why two people immersed in their private world with their laptops can’t sit opposite each other (Heaven forbid they speak to each other!) It would allow for more people to have seats and also be good for business. I remember being in Italy a decade ago, and there was a sign in a café that said, “No internet. Talk to each other!” I’m not saying, get rid of the Internet, but, people, please be more neighborly and share the space.
The coffee is good, but fine. It's quite a ways out of the way and locals love it, but I am getting the feeling it's a family spot and a good place to work, and it helps a lot. They also have a wood roasting which helps draw people in.
The coffee is good. Great vibe in here but I do find it odd that a coffee shop doesn’t have any latte flavored syrups. When I asked for a honey latte I asked if they melted the honey in the espresso and they said no they just pour it in the cup. Random but not really what a latte is. It gets all glopped up in the straw. If you’re looking for any flavored lattes beyond maple, this might not be your joint. If you’re looking for basic coffee with good taste, it’ll work.
Wasn't really feeling it. Lots of one-person laptop people taking up all the two-tops on a busy sunday. Wasn't really impressed with my drink or either of my baked goods. Service was efficient and the decor was nice, though. Might try again if i happen to walk by and it isn't busy but won't go out of my way again.
I was really excited when a coffee spot opened up in the neighborhood. Good coffee and nice vibes inside. Ever since the pandemic started, they've only offered window service (order at the window and go home). I haven't been there in months because I didn't want to stand outside in the cold waiting for 20 minutes for my coffee (and I use to go regularly). Even now, with all the restrictions lifted, they still only offer the window service. They don't offer a service to call in an order or place an order online and when they're really busy you find yourself standing outside waiting for your coffee. Worst part, the coffee isn't as good as it use to be. I'm only writing this in hopes that it would encourage them to go back to being as awesome as they were when they first opened.
Payed 6$ to get a flat white. All I got was milk in a big cup. After I asked for another espresso shot because the cup was literally MILK ONLY, they said I could get another shot for almost 3$. That shop IS A JOKE.
Vegan pastries were dry and tasteless. Drip coffee was overly acidic and tasted soapy
Really nice that they have vegan baked goods, but staff with glasses and mask was really cold (but super nice to customer before me), don’t even know what I did :/
Blown away by how bad this place is. Looks nice, and the beans they roast are amazing. Probably the best beans in astoria. But they do not know how to prepare coffee whatsoever. Paid $18 for a 12 oz bag of beans and asked them to grind it for me, and after double checking how i wanted it ground, they proceeded to grind it on the completely wrong setting . Fortunately it was too coarse instead of too fine, but would have been a complete waste of money if my friend didn't let me use their grinder to fix it. The drip coffee they serve is way too watery and so are their espresso shots. Maybe this place is ok if you like sugary milk with a little coffee in it, but if you like coffee, do not order here. only get the beans and Grind and Brew yourself.
Let's start off with what is excellent which is the coffee. I went to get coffee last week at the outdoor window and was refused service because I didn't have a mask. I just left there 5 minutes ago and the same barista had no problem serving multiple people without masks. There was no change in policy, just selective enforcement.
The coffee is tasteless, watery, and overpriced. They have no seating nor creature comforts, the small snacks they served are prepackaged and not fresh. I love to support small bushinesses but its hard to do when Starbucks two blocks down is 10x better in every way.
rude baristas, dirty cafe that is filled with spider webs. what kind of cafe has no vanilla flavor and limited milk options lol, never coming back
Tell your staff to leave the attitude outside the business, and focus on making good coffee, and if he needs also needs a coffee to behave more professional he can probably have one for free And he can mumble bad things but he was heard
Wonderful coffee. Terrible service and attitude. I spend ten whole minutes waiting at their window to get someone to take my order. I notice people who arrive after me having their orders taken first. When someone does finally show up I’ve almost left and I say, finally, so they respond with “we’re busy, dude”. I don’t think I need to point out how unprofessional that is. Either have someone manning your walk up window or letting people know it’ll be a wait, or close it entirely and have them come inside. But letting people skip each other in line because you can’t be bothered to let people outside know it’s a long wait is ridiculous. Never returning here again. The Barn nearby has better option. Or kinship.
The service is cold and dismissive and the coffee itself is horrible. Cant believe they roast on sight- they should simply use one of the amazing New York roasters out here who knows what they are doing. $7 wasted...
The male barista working on Monday afternoon, 8/25/2025 was extremely disrespectful. I ordered two coffees, yet only one was made and I had to return to the counter to confirm for the second. When the first drink was finished, the barista simply shouted “cappuccino” across the café rather than handing it to me directly despite me being close by. As I was leaving, he remarked “Sir, your cups..” to which I jokingly replied that since I had already paid, picked up my own drink, and left a tip, something should be on the house. His response—“It’s common courtesy to pick up after yourself, nobody asked you to tip me”—was unprofessional, dismissive, and inappropriate. Did he want me to clean the table too and do his job for him? This conduct reflects a lack of basic courtesy and professionalism, and I urge management to address it promptly.
