The White Lodge was simply amazing. From the welcome, to the meal and everything in between was nothing short of exemplary from each member of staff. Tilly and Bailey were the FOH staff and both of them should hold their heads high as they made themselves and the White Lodge proud with nothing but outstanding service being the epitome of professional throughout. The party of 3 that I was in thoroughly enjoyed the day out, arriving over an hour early as we was unsure of traffic at the time and thought we would sit in the bar for a drink beforehand, but they fit us in there and then. Honestly was a 11/10 service, will definitely be back.

Fantastic food and service. Had a lovely meal here this evening. We haven’t been in years but decided to give it a try after hearing good things about the current menu. Really good selection of both Gluten Free and Dairy Free options. All staff were very knowledgeable on the menu items and able to confidently answer our questions straight away. Food arrived quickly and was piping hot. Staff were very attentive, making sure everyone had what they needed without being intrusive. Will definitely be returning.

Beautiful old pub with a great choice of beers, lagers and food. We arrived just after it opened for the day on Sunday 5th May. There is a choice of several areas to sit and eat or just drink and watch the world go bye including two outdoor seating areas. We had the Sunday roast (beef) and the pie of the day (steak and mushroom)

Had a lovely meal this evening at The White Lodge. The lady that seated and looked after us was absolutely lovely and very kind towards our 18 month old. Food was lovely, generous portions and good value for money. Service was great and in a lovely environment. Highly recommend and will definitly be returning.

The White Lodge is a pub and restaurant on the old Norwich to London Road which now runs parallel here to the A11. It has been refurbished recently and has a large, barn like, restaurant space, which was full apart from the table booked for us, when we arrived. The menu is eclectic but included lots of things we like. There were four of us here for dinner and we all enjoyed it. One of the party began with Whitebait while I had Chicken Wings in Smoky Hickory BBQ Sauce which were sticky and lovely. Our friends shared a delightful Baked Camembert plate together. For mains one of us had a venison burger which came served with lettuce, tomato and pickle and a red cabbage and apple coleslaw and chunky chips. Another the spiced halloumi burger which was served with similar trimmings. I had a Warm Goat’s Cheese Salad with two generous pieces of goat’s cheese and a lovely fresh salad drizzled with a sticky balsamic vinegar, wonderful. And our final guest opted for the Salmon with roasted potatoes and vegetables and a rocket salad which was a real treat. Each of us were very happy with our respective meals. Only two of us had desserts one which was a huge Wild Berry Eton Mess and another had Caramel Crunch cheesecake with Popcorn, both went down well. Overall, lovely food in an open and airy setting.

Fabulous meal, best Sea bass I've had in ages and lots of it. My friend had equally generous and delicious portion of lamb's liver and bacon. Lovely attentive service too, would definitely recommend

Question. If you’re driving up or down the A11 why would you stop at a service station and eat s**t when you could stop somewhere like this? A warm and friendly welcome as soon as we entered, the good service didn’t stop there. Myself and Mrs O ordered 3 small plate’s between us which was perfect for our needs. The food was freshly prepared and delicious, accompanied by a good choice of beers. We could have had McKuntucky King at the services, I think we made the right choice

We was looking for a Sunday roast on our way back home from a trip away in Norfolk and stubbled across this place on our journey home and what a great result we had. The roast was delightful. Really nice pub with a good atmosphere plus the food was great. Would recommend a visit.

Had a lovely, lovely lunch on last Saturday. Food was most excellent and service couldn’t have been better. This is now our favourite pub amongst all the others on our travels throughout the UK!

We went for lunch a Sunday and were fitted in last minute in a quiet table in the bar area. Staff were polite, friendly and efficient. We had the crab gnocchi which were absolutely delicious and took what we couldn’t eat home. Staff were kind enough to box it up for us to take as a delicious treat for a family member in hospital. We have eaten here several times times including with a large group when they hosted us after a sponsored MacMillan walk and fed a hungry horde swiftly. Couldn’t recommend this enough

Had a delightful afternoon tea today. Food was very nice, service very good. One of the best afternoon tea's we have had. We arrived a little early, but wasn't a problem. Staff friendly and attentive throughout. We will definitely be back to sample the menu.

I visited with some trepidation after seeing a few recent negative reviews, but I was very pleasantly surprised and impressed and would be more than happy to return. We ordered from the main menu and I chose the Lodge House Burger. The only minor fault was the post-mix Coke Zero being off really the only criticism of the whole visit. The burger itself was very tasty, with fresh lettuce and tomato, and the meat was flavoursome and not chewy at all 👌 The chips were well cooked, and the coleslaw was fresh and very enjoyable. Although the portion didn’t look particularly large at first glance, it turned out to be exactly the right amount for a main course and a very delicious one. Others in my party ordered the fish and chips and the Sunday turkey roast, and they were equally pleased. These dishes were served more traditionally on full plates, and it’s worth noting that the Sunday roast is not a carvery. Dessert was also excellent and generously portioned: a piping hot pudding surrounded by rich toffee sauce, topped with creamy vanilla ice cream. The contrast between the hot pudding and cold ice cream worked perfectly. The staff were very friendly and attentive. They explained that only a couple of dishes were unavailable and that we were welcome to order from any of the three menus available that day the main menu (which we ordered from), a limited-edition Valentine’s menu, and the specials board. The only thing that genuinely surprised me was the bill: £113 for four main courses, four desserts, and six drinks. That said, this feels more like a reflection of rising prices nationally rather than this venue specifically. We did leave a tip as the service was excellent. The restaurant is attached to a quaint pub, and dogs are welcome in both areas. It was quite busy during our visit, and everyone seemed happy with their food and service I didn’t hear any complaints from other customers. As a local resident, I’ve seen this establishment change ownership a few times. It’s nice to see it return to traditional “pub grub,” which clearly suits both the venue and the area. It did briefly move towards a more haute cuisine, MasterChef-style menu, but I don’t think that approach was well matched to the local clientele. This current direction feels like a very welcome and successful return to form.

Stopped in for dinner mid route to Norwich after reading the reviews. Lovely pub with dining room. We were seated fast and drinks order taken. Good choice on menu and food was great. Amazing value kids meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would have been 5 star but dining room was very cold, would have been nice if fire was lit, however they did have a couple of small heaters on Recommend and will visit again

Nice pub with your typical pub grub. Quick service and decent food. The garden lacks a vibe and could do with some flowers or something, just to make it feel a bit nicer. Dog friendly which is always a plus.

We had an enjoyable meal at this charming pub. Sadly it was very empty compared to the Stag up the road, but we were very glad we decided to stop in and would recommend others do the same. Service was fast and attentive and there was a varied menu. Beer (Lacons Encore) was very good.

Dinner with my daughter tonight. Restaurant had a table of 12, 5 and 2 tables of 2. The restaurant was probably at half capacity. 2 friendly servers. No customers in the bar. Order taken without too much delay however, drinks order took a while and a repeat order was not delivered. The tenderloin was part tender and veloutè was unflavoured. Dessert- creme englaise was watery the rest of the meal, was nothing special. Described my disappointment to server and received a £10 discount. Atmosphere was warm and friendly and decor was pleasantly christmassy. Would return incase this was just an off day for the lodge.

November Saturday evening visit. Food ordered: one starter £8 ish and two steak and chips £24 each. First time visit to see if the reviews are still relevant. Only one other party of two in the building and the bar had a couple of men drinking by the bar. Our starter was basic consisting of a tiny portion of two fried veg patties and a bit of rocket. Nice flavour but not worth £8, in my opinion. However, main meal was excellent; the steaks were large and cooked as requested. The atmosphere? The place basically was of empty at 8:30pm by which time my party of two was the only party. Out came the vacuum cleaner. So glad I paid £85 to eat in such an atmosphere. Many of the items on the single sheet menu were not available. Side orders were on the back page of the menu. If they were listed with the main meals rather than the desserts I might have ordered one of them. The staff were attentive but for some reason took ages to give us our first order of drinks. This eatery appears to be on its last legs. Unfortunately, it has very strong and very local competitors who doing well. Sadly, I will not visit it again.

KEEP REAL

So let's start with the food: I ordered a Beef roast which was presented beautifully but was ultimately bang average, the vegetables were far to al dente and completely bland even with gravy. The beef wasn't fully rested and was still oozing bloody juice as a consequence and lastly the beef is sold on the menu as (Medium) my beef was Medium Rare they're not the same and as a qualified chef myself I know. The service: I encourage making customers feel welcome and as if there's nothing you won't do for them, what I don't appreciate is being asked "If I'm okay or if there's anything else I would like 10x in the space of 45mins (I'm not exaggerating) if you have confidence in your food & service this is completely unnecessary and overkill. Overview: Would I return? No. I don't appreciate the COVID19 restrictions still being imposed on the premises, it feels very empty & lifeless and at times didn't feel like a restaurant come pub for a Sunday lunch. Pictures: (As mentioned served beautifully but ultimately not rested and vegetables bland)

Had high hopes when we booked for a family celebration but the service was really slow and some of the food wasn't great. We had booked for 1230 and got our food about 1.45. Risotto was ok. Fish batter not crispy, burgers greasy , no meat pies. just really disappointed. They were kind enough to reduce our bill and I really hope that they can get their act together as it's a lovely building but as it's so expensive to eat out you really want it to be good.

The staff were friendly and a nice atmosphere but the food was very disappointing.Edible but not enjoyable and not worth the price.Did mention this to our server who asked if we complained when someone checked if everything was Ok...but noone came so we didnt

Not up to previous visits! It was clear the usual team wasn’t working, and unfortunately, the experience fell short of what we’ve come to enjoy at your venue. The woman serving was quite abrupt and repeatedly referred to customers as "my lovely." As someone over 50, I found that overly familiar and rather patronizing. While waiting a long time for our food, we were seated near the kitchen door, where we could hear inappropriate music being played, not what you'd expect in a professional setting. Even more disappointing was overhearing that same staff member openly discussing how she didn’t like certain colleagues and was glad they were gone. That kind of talk shouldn’t be happening within earshot of customers. When I asked where the usual middle aged gentleman who’s always lively behind the bar was, or the younger manager who’s normally around, I was abruptly told, “She’s on a day off,” and “While he’s away, things are done differently.” After hearing the staff member’s comments about others, I sincerely hope he will be back soon and this woman doesn't get rid of him! The atmosphere just wasn’t the same without them. We will be back but before we decide to stay or not, we’ll be checking who’s working that day. I hope this feedback is taken by the owners and consistency is achieved. We’ve always appreciated the service and atmosphere your regular team provides, and we’d love to see that standard continue.

Nice pub, set back from the a11. Booked the restrant they moved booking us to the bar, food wasnt the best had a burger asked for altertation but not accomodated (no bun), ordered a side of onion rings arrived later than the meal and quite greasey. Price was ok for the bar food and staff where friendly, easy parking just not for us.

Been eating on and off here for the last 6 years. Went a month ago for the Sunday carvery and was for the first time, disappointed. However everyone has bad days so we went again this weekend. Reheated meals are what we got served, chewy fish with stale batter. Chips must of been nuked in the microwave, again chewy. Really disappointed, seems to be a common theme now looking at recent reviews. Used to be a very good venue. Only plus side was that the wait staff were fantastic.

Not a great experience overall. We originally booked the festive menu and places a pre-order for 16 people but due to illness had to reduce it down to 12 people on the night. This shouldn't have been an issue as the preorder had everyone names and what they ordered on it. The best part about the food was the presentation, the mains were lukewarm for most people. And the chefs got confused with people not coming and some people were left waiting for courses after everyone else got them, and when these courses were brought they seemed like it eas just shoved on the plate and the topping on the Crumble tasted raw. All in all, I wouldnt be returning

Visited today for a 81st birthday celebration. Table was booked for 7 a few weeks in advance. I selected the bar area when booking as we had 2 dogs with us but we were seated in the snug. It was freezing! The only heating in the snug was a small portable heater and it was 2c outside. We waited over an hour for food. The food was good but nothing special. The servers were apologetic and we were given free drinks for the slow service. I will not return again unless things improve. Left feeling cold and disappointed.

Food was terrible, very bland and very over cooked. I had the pork belly which was fatty but still managed to overcook it and make it dry. The vegetables were barely seasoned and my partners cod wasn’t even touched with salt and pepper. I had burn lt crispy bits all over my plate. Wouldn’t recommend for food however the service was good and the atmosphere was nice. Would go back for a beer but nothing more

Had lunch here today for 6 adults + 2 children. Staff lovely and young waitress very friendly. Meals not so good. Waited quite a while for food despite pub not too busy. Chips were hard resembling re-heated. My liver which I asked for pink, was literally runny like a warm pate. I mentioned this to staff and was offered a drink. Well we had finished so I had a cafe which was lovely. However, the meal should have been removed from the bill as it was poor. In fairness I had eaten most of it because I was so hungry but staff could see it wasn’t like a piece of whole liver. I’m no chef but am an excellent cook and would not have served this to anyone. The chicken burger had no flavour. Sorry guys but we paid a lot for what it was. We love the look and feel of this place but today at least the food was not acceptable.

We booked this restaurant to spend time with friends we haven’t seen for a few years. We wanted a nice meal in nice surroundings. So bitterly disappointed. When we arrived hummus, suet pies and steak weren’t available, surely steak is a staple meal. There was no Guinness draft, bottles or cans, I asked for a sparkling mineral water…..they didn’t have any!! Surely that’s a basic for any restaurant. When the meal came the pork belly was cold and had to be returned, came back reheated. The creamy mushrooms were tepid and the chicken supreme was over peppery. All in all a great disappointment in what used to be a great restaurant especially when you have guests.

Do not book afternoon tea here. No skimmed milk for tea. Sandwiches not nice, limited choice all on white bread, overriding taste of margarine and mayonnaise. Fruit scone distinctly lacking fruit - eight currants in large doughy scone. Very limited choice of cakes, only one small square of sponge cake. Couple on table next to us, having ordered lunch, waited an hour to be told they had no beefburgers ! They left. Avoid, avoid, you have been warned!

First time visit for our anniversary. No customer service at the table - didn’t ask for drinks when we sat, had to ask but they just took mine, didn’t even bother to ask my partner. Table really sticky ! Food - pork was tough, couldn’t cut it at all and way too many new potatoes. Skillet chicken wrap - too big wrap for what you get. Brownie was digesting! I couldn’t eat it at all. Just sheet disappointment! Customer service and food extremely poor, I will stick the Stag across the road from now on !

Been many times always fantastic but this is my last visit. Don't know if they have new owners but the Sunday roast was a let down. Frozen veg, 2 tiny roast potatoes, rock hard sliver of parsnip, 1 slice of beef, cardboard Yorkshire, I am not a fan of cauliflower cheese but it was the best thing on the plate. Driving home everyone said they were still hungry it was more like a starter than a dinner.

M
Mike Jones

A family Christmas meal was booked for Saturday 20th December, it toook 30 mins for our drinks to arrive, then another 20 mins for the starters to arrive, bearing in mind that this meal was pre booked and a deposit paid, once the main course was served I couldn’t believe what was on my plate for a Christmas dinner, I had processed turkey, no gravey, no Yorkshire pudding and carrott puree under the veg, I hate carrots, to be honest I would never return to the white lodge as that is one of the worst meals I have had

A
Alison Hawthorne

We visited yesterday and to be honest we won’t be back. The starter was served raw, they did refund this item, the burger was tasteless and the chips were reheated and tasted greasy. The dining room had no atmosphere and was bland and cold feeling considering the outside look of this pub, we were hoping for a lovely cosy pub vibe. Serving staff were friendly but the kitchen needs a rethink.

Visited on Sunday 21st December 2025 evening with a group of 10, 4 adults, 3 teens and 3 children. Upon arrival we were the only group in the dining room, odd given it was a Sunday and they serve a roast dinner. We were required to preorder a month in advance. The morning of our booking we were telephoned explaining we had been sent an old menu and they didn’t have a few of the dishes we had requested and so we made substitutions. We had to request a drinks order about 15 minutes into waiting at our table. Decor of the place was fairly nice and waitress was friendly enough. Starters arrived and ‘warm bread with oils and balsamic’ was in fact stone cold toast crusts. Sent back and requested it be removed from the bill. Mains arrived and at least warm, 3 adults had a roast. If you like gravy you’d be in luck as the dinner was swimming in it. Not a huge deal. The roast potatoes were clearly cooked earlier in the morning and nuked in the microwave, 1 carrot and 1 parsnip with the most weird red cabbage we’ve ever tasted. Sweet but bitter and for us, inedible. Meat was actually not too bad. Husband enjoyed a steak and was ‘ok’. Again I refused to pay for two of the roast dinners as we barely touched them. Teen son had a burger, again, ‘ok’. We had planned on staying for desert but thought it wasn’t worth our time. In the hour/hour and half we were there, we were the only diners in the restaurant. Waitress apologised and asked for feedback for the chef which was given, removed starter and the two roasts from the bill along with an additional 20% goodwill apology. Paid bill, tipped the waitress and left. Shame as I think this place could be great with a new chef and some decent promotion. We left and had desert at The Stag, a stones throw away and it was delicious. About 3 hours later my teen son was violently sick. Could have been the burger but who knows? Either way, I’d recommend saving your money and time and booking elsewhere.

Wednesday evening visit, two other couples in dining room. Ordered rump streak and chunky chips x 2. Steak was unevenly cut so medium rare one half and well done the other. The chips were dire.. tiny, hard, and quite obviously reheated. Were charged £60 with 2 drinks in spite of complaining about inedible chips. We won’t be going back!

I can't believe what my husband and recieved today as an afternoon tea 😳 if I could have scored 0 I would. We drove half an hr to the venue to be greeted with a very bland and very poorly put together.....mess! Sandwiches were all of different sizes, and had finger print indentation in some of them, which fell apart on trying to pick them up. They were filled with leftover turkey in 4 of them and 4 with leftover cold pigs in blankets!!! Really!!! 2 very squashed egg Sandwiches. The cakes were 4 dried looking flapjacks and 2 small pieces of what probably was carrot cake? 2 plain scones (no fruit inside) and 2 cheese scones. Since when do you call that an afternoon tea. Pictures on the website looked lovely. This is false advertising! Not acceptable at all. If only I could post the pictures I took.

I hate giving negative reviews and based on how many positive reviews it has, maybe we were just unlucky. But, I would say that this qualified as the worst meal of the year for me and it's not even close. Fortunately it was on Norfolk restaurant week so it didn't cost a lot, but the food was quite honestly abysmal. The starter fish platter was dry, overcooked and the batter was far too thick. The pork belly was burnt on the outside, dry on the inside and felt as though it had been sitting there for a while. Carrots were overcooked and potatoes were almost certainly cooked and re-warmed as they had that rubbery texture and there was a weird burnt kale crumb with the black pudding. Feel this dish is really poorly thought out and needs to be removed. My wife had the chicken parmigiana which we're 90% sure came out the microwave, the corn on the cob tasted really strangely and the coleslaw was awful. It's a nice setting for a pub, the staff were doing their best and were very pleasant but they were so understaffed as it took an hour to get the starter and nearly 2 hours for the main to arrive, and when it did, the food was absolutely awful, beyond awful. Unfortunately we'll probably never come back and it ruined a Friday. We did mention to the staff that it wasn't very good when we were paying but by that point we'd been there for 2 hours 40 minutes and just wanted to get away.
