Bun X at Micawbers

We often come to Bun X and get their takeaways as well, I’ve never had bad food here, it very quickly became mine and my husbands favourite restaurant a long time ago. We visited today for the first time on a Sunday and it was so good, we loved the carvery feast trays, their stuffing balls are *chefs kiss* and the Crumble Crib berrylicous crumble was the perfect finish, my husband hates fruit and even he loved it. Aside from the food, the staff are so attentive and lovely, I don’t think there’s anywhere else that has this level of service. Can’t wait for our next visit. Big love 🩷

The burgers are absolutely banging so so good. The loaded fries are incredible, good beers cocktails , definitely come again. You will most certainly fill your boots here , guarantee you won't starve.

What an absolute delight. Lovely atmosphere, outstanding food and attentive staff. This was one of the old pubs of Norwich, dating back to the late 18th century and first known as the Duke of York from 1772-1856. It became the Alma in 1857, renamed in honour of lord Raglans victory at the battle of Alma in 1854, during the Crimean War. Closed in 1975 but reopened as Micawbers 1977. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this historic listed old pud in its new configuration as Bun X. We experienced great food, excellent service and an atmosphere second to none. If these walls could talk? 👌

One of my favourite places to go for a next level burger and amazing sides. Their transparency at booking means I can look after anyone I consider bringing with me, and staff and so kind and welcoming. Would 100% recommend - worth the wait if they’re booked up for a while!!

Just a fantastic place to eat the owner was very friendly and passionate about his business and rightly so, loved the open kitchen and seeing the chef’s working as a team , being in the hospitality business I can honestly say this place deserves 10 stars not just the 5 I can give

WOW! This place was absolutely amazing! The burgers were completely phenomenal. When we arrived we hadn't booked, but the lady soon found us a table, the customer service was on point, the guy who served us was amazing and so friendly! Thanks BunX you really made my day off a little different!

Food was great, probably wouldnt get the fries unless sharing again, burger was 10/10. Only negative is be very clear about where you dont want sauces.... I thought I had been with "no mayo or burger sauce" but appears to have only been noted against the burger not the fries. I know if I had complained they would have cooked me fresh straight away but due to the portion size I just took the top layer off and ate from the bottom and still couldnt finish them. If im in the area I'll be going back.

Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous burgers and lovely service from the whole team. Had a feast tray with chicken tenders and pork burnt ends; 10/10 !!! Saw another table having the meringue mess and had to also give it a go… no regrets, absolutely lovely. Deserves all the 5* reviews.

I have been wanting to come here for a while. We had a lovely warm welcome on a dark damp night. Warm environment with a young vibe and good music. The burgers are nice but can be a little hard to eat with their size and wetness. Very enjoyable meal and look forward to returning in the future.

This is the second time my husband and I have been here and I’ve just booked to come back in March. The staff are the most lovely people, and the food is honestly to die for. The flavour, quality of food, everything is top tier. All I have to say about this place is positive, it’s our new favourite ❤️

So me and my partner visited recently for the first time. The atmosphere was nice, the staff were very friendly, our table wasnt ready yet as we were 15mins early so we were shown to the bar and had a nice drink while we waited. Now the best bit the food and OMG it was phenomenal. We had the infamous feast tray, we had the chicken snitzel burger which was amazing only thing I would say is that there was a little too much dill in the burger. The chicken tenders where crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside and the cheese donuts were yummy and morish and the some of the best wings ive tasted. Now the other burger we had is easily the best burger ive ever had and it was the Wham Bam camejam burger 👌😋 this burger was juicy and succulent with the most amazing chilli jam with the most amazing onions which was topped by the most amazing bun ive ever had. 9.5/10 and would definitely recommend to anyone who loves a burger and chicken.

My Partner and I visited on New Years Eve and had a wonderful experience! The lady who served us was full of energy and provided us great service all evening. I have wanted to come here for ages and I will definitely be returning, the food was AMAZING! We got a platter to share and there was so much food, all tasted super fresh. Great little spot in Norwich, definitely come here if you want the best burger in East Anglia!!!🙂

Bloody amazed by how great BunX is. The burgers were absolutely spectacular. Such a lovely space with great vibes, and most importantly.. great food!!! Beef, or chicken, they’re both brilliant choices with an array of enticing dips! INCLUDING RANCH!! (To die for) The staff were fantastic, and friendly. Definitely made us feel extremely welcome. They were very understanding with dealing with a gluten allergy on our booking, even a bunless burger was a delicious choice, with all the salad and smashed patties. I could go on and on. Bottom line is.. try it for yourself and I promise you that you won’t be disappointed, trust me. These guys know how to do burgers. We’re definitely going again next week when we’re next in Norwich.

Bun X is hands down my favourite place to eat out in Norwich. The food is consistently excellent! Amazing burgers and feast trays that are great value, perfect for sharing, and always seriously tasty. The menu is also regularly updated, which keeps things exciting and gives you a genuine reason to come back and try something new each time. What really sets Bun X apart is the service. The staff are always friendly, attentive, and genuinely lovely. On the rare occasion when things haven’t quite gone to plan, they’ve gone above and beyond to make it right. Which says a lot about how much they care about the customer experience. The team remember me when I visit, greet us warmly, and there’s always great banter. It turns a great meal into a genuinely brilliant experience. They're also brilliant on social media: super responsive, highly engaged, and very generous when it comes to celebrating milestones and achievements with their customers. All in all, Bun X nails it! Incredible food, great value, and top-tier service. I just wish I could get there more often.

Ah the food here was incredible! The burgers were a great size and they offer quirky little side dishes to complement the burgers. Only around a 10 minute wait for the burgers so just enough time for a pint in this wonderful little venue

I only have lovely words to say about Bun X at Micawbers! Myself, my partner and all the family absolutely love it here! The quality of food is gorgeous! It never disappoints and remains consistent each time. It really is the best burger place around & I know so many people who agree! The restaurant itself has such an amazing feel to it and atmosphere! We’ve visited at least 10 times now! Whether it be a special occasion or to stop by for lunch. Usually we book a table but Holly does a fantastic job of creating space and tables for people if they desire a walk in too. The overall staff & chef’s really do go above and beyond and you can see it every single time you visit. The team should be so proud of the business as it really is flourishing! The price you pay for the quality and quantity of food is so worth it! Their prices are more than fair. The drinks options are vast and the desserts are yummy too. We can’t wait to stop by again soon! 🍔🥂💛

I'd been looking to come here for a while as I love this kind of food, and I'd also see the good reviews. In short, it was AMAZING and I defo recommend it. Great service from Gonza. You're a credit to Bun X, as are the chefs, as the food was so tasty. I booked a table in advance for a Sunday - it's a good job I did as it was busy. My friend and I had the sharing platter. There was low music in the background, and it had a lovely atmosphere. I'd definitely come back! Well done to everyone.

The best burger joint in Norwich. Had the festive special and it was incredible. Dined here many times and the standard of service, food and setting is unbelievably good. Unbelievable consistency of being amazing every time I have been.

We booked a month in advance for this carvery feast as it was the earliest availability on a Sunday, so we had very high hopes for this popular spot. On arrival, we were brought to a table directly in front of the serving station which, despite my apprehensions, was a nice location to hear the chefs sing, and watch as they prepare all the delicious food 😂 My partner and I ordered the veggie carvery burger and the beef brisket burger. Although we were only given the option of either veggie or meat gravy (not a separate pot for each) we opted for the beef gravy and I left it for my partner. I didn’t feel as though I was missing out because the veggie burger was extremely tender and one of the best meat substitute burgers I’ve ever had. The toppings were generous and the sides were plenty. We also had enough to take leftovers back, which was greatly appreciated. My choice to deduct one star came from the lack of veg. From what I remember, there was a red cabbage side option, but I would’ve liked some variety of roasted veg to lighten up the heaviness of the roasties, yorkies, and burgers. I’d also perhaps say the price was a little steep, at £55 for a tray of food for two (including a drink each), but it’s worth the cost for a treat. Other than that, I have no criticisms, and will be returning soon to try the OG Mega feast ⭐️

Managed to get a last-minute reservation late last night and wow, I’m so glad I did. Honestly, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. Every dish was packed with flavour and 🤌 The service was just as impressive. Ludo took our order and suggested we upgrade to the Feast Tray, a recommendation I’m so grateful for. It gave us the chance to try more of the menu, it was also the perfect amount of food for 2 people and very reasonably priced! He also bought me a bucket of all of their weird and wonderful hot sauces after I made a comment about liking hot food. Thanks guys.... We will definitely be back when we next visit Norwich!

Visited on 24/05/25 and it’s definitely worth the hype! Our server (Tom) was very patient and kind, which we couldn’t be more than thankful for. The fries were delicious and so were the burgers! (We had the ‘Almost Hunters’ and ‘Micky B’s’) We will definitely be returning 😊 Also, they play some banging tunes.

The Best Burger I've Ever Had -- so good I cycled 80 miles just to eat it again. I've eaten a lot of burgers, but this one takes the crown. Hands down the best burger I've ever had. The staff were Incredibly friendly. They made the whole experience even better with genuine hospitality and great service. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. Highly, highly recommended.

First time visiting on Good Friday, nothing to fault food, service and atmosphere all brilliant- catered for my hubby and just having a plain burger! And the coke was lovely too (reminded me of theme park coke, so I felt like I was on holiday!) It was genuinely delicious and fab throughout- it’s a must try. We’ll be back! Amazing food, fully living up to the reputation. The staff in Bun X are also super chilled and friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Food is the main thing though, a great value sharer box of two house burgers, fries, a house side and two dipping pots for £35. Great selection of beers too if you’re drinking. Highly recommended - best burger around!

Quite simply, the best burger joint in Norwich. Down a quiet road in Norwich, from the outside you might mistake micawbers for being ‘just a pub’ - And how wrong you would be ! Inside you are treated to what hospitality should be - Flawless food, friendly and attentive staff and a great atmosphere, these guys know what they are doing and they deserve the hype and stir they are causing. The food here is plentiful and great value - Quality ingredients, cooked by chefs that actually care about the menu; I have been several times and more than once, I have seen the team talking and creating the next thing for the menu - For someone that loves food, this is the burger holy grail a passionate group of chefs and staff pushing the boundaries and offering something new - I’m always excited to see what’s next on the menu……They never disappoint. The positive reviews about the food are warranted - But it is worth mentioning here, that it is not just the food that is amazing, all the staff here care about customer experience - This is not a chain restaurant, this is an independent that care about the dining experience for all customers. If you haven’t been, go. If you were in any doubt, don’t be…..Amazing food, amazing staff and we will be back time and time again !

I like to think I know a good burger after having so many of them over the years (!), what I can say is Bun X certainly know how to make fantastic food. The burger and sides were absolutely delicious, service was great and an expansive selection of beer to choose from to enjoy with your burger. If you want great food and drink, don’t look any further than Bun X. I will certainly be returning 🙏

Went to Bun X today with my daughter. Neither of us had been before, but having seen good reviews we wanted to try for ourselves. We were not disappointed at all, the welcome was very warm and friendly, service was very quick and attentive, and the food was amazing. I had the chilli spiced lamb loaded chips special and my daughter had the cinnamon bun chicken burger, with Kyiv loaded chips . All very tasty, well cooked and went down well. Then we had the meringue mess for desert, which was rich and filling. Good choice of options on the drinks menu, we both had a Bourbon Peach Sour, well worth a try! We will definitely return , thank you to all the staff for making the experience so good, Ludo was our main server, but all staff were very welcoming.

I wandered in with a friend & two dogs, and despite it being there busy period, the lovely Lindo & Charley rustled up a table for us immediately. Hand on heart, their classic burger (made by Gracy's & Rob's fair hands) are the best burgers we have ever had. Even the dogs enjoyed their patties on the house. Loved it & will be back!!

Fantastic - up there with the best burgers. Really tasty. Even dessert was very good. Often at places desert feels like something straight out the freezer but this appeared to be homemade. Perhaps it wasn’t but regardless it gave the impression of being so and I didn’t regret it! Would return again in Norwich

So good! We visited for a birthday and the food was great, atmosphere excellent and staff very attentive including starting with a Happy Birthday and adding a birthday candle to the right burger. Great place for date night (did this last month) or family lunch (today!). The Christmas menu is something to shout about too. So good! Thanks for making our celebration special!

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place. I’ve eaten here 3 times and every time it’s nothing next to perfect! The atmosphere is fantastic and the servers are just a dream. So friendly and wonderful. I recommend this place to everyone I meet. So good. The burger buns are literally the softest!!

We had just arrived for the first time in Norwich and called in here at Friday lunchtime on the off-chance they had a table available. Although they didn't immediately, we were greeted by very friendly staff who informed us that a table would be becoming vacant in 10 minutes, and invited us to have a drink at the bar. Excellent - Camden Stout. Will be having that again! All the time, Ludo kept us informed about progress with the table. When we sat down to eat, we weren't sure what to have, and Ludo recommended their new burgers with a recipe that they were trying out for a week. I had Crispy Chilli beef burger and wife Jane had Cinnamon Roll, and we shared Salted Fries. I can say that mine was the VERY BEST burger I have ever had. Jane was extremely happy with hers too. It was so good that I would gladly travel again for 2 hours to Norwich just to go to Bun X and have a repeat meal there. 10/10 outstanding.

Fab burger place. Looked after me very well on my birthday but be warned you will be in a food coma for a good while after. Although the prices in all restaurants have crept up I feel it’s good value for money at Bun X, especially if you share a tray with someone. Decor and ambience very fun; love the old pub feel and they stay true to it but having a few interesting beers on rotation.

Good service, very good food, unable to seat a party of over 6 people, however they called and explained the place is very small before we arrived, luckily 2 separate tables wasn’t any issue for us 😁

We thought we would give this a place a look. The staff were friendly and helpful. Full marks there. The pub had a nice atmosphere albeit it was crammed at the bar and busy. The food in my opinion is over priced and didn't really blow me away. My burger was so greasy, it actually made me feel a bit unwell. I wouldn't return and wouldn't recommend.

It was cold inside the restaurant. I mean really cold! You couldn't enjoy your food! The burger and the loaded chips was ok. Nothing special taste but good quality ingredients except the bun bread. The bun bread fell apart and has no taste. They haven't got hot drink. The guys are friendly and the food arrives quickly.

The atmosphere and service was fantastic. Staff were helpful and the venue is nice, but unfortunately the difference in quality between 2 visits is noticeable and not in a good way. The previous time we visited the burgers were flavourful. The portion was plentiful and the tenders.. were frankly the best I had ever eaten. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for our visit this time the burgers were overall okay but the patties were not as flavourful, but what really let it down was the chicken tenders. Unfortunately they were small, with a poor quality coating that tastes of nothing but flour. We really wanted to enjoy bun x like we did last time, Unfortunately we did not it really was a shame as it was amazing last time Attached some photos between the two visits

I have been Bun X multiple times, with my partner and different friend groups, all at Pottergate. Abolosutely incredible experience and I always tell everyone they are the best about. However.. we went to the one at the coaches and horses for my friends birthday last Friday. a group of 6 people so we spent a fair few quid and with beers aswell. Me and another friend asked for an extra patty in our burgers, paid for them and the extra patty didn't come. We compared our burgers to everyone elses on the table who didn't add a patty and they were the same. After speaking to the Barman, he said he would go and speak to the Chef. The chef says there was a extra patty in our burgers, which I then argued there definently wasn't and it was just our word against theirs. Like I would make it up.. strange service. However, I didn't want to kick up a fuss so just left it. On top of that, 2 other friends ordered a pot of brisket and they both recieved their briskets cold, they didn't complain as they thought it was how it came which would be odd. Overall, the food was okay but service was terrible leaving the whole party dissapointed which is a shame.
