Opinions de Star of India Austin
This place has been hands down some of the best Indian food in Austin for over 30 years. Ive been coming here since I was a kid and they NEVER disappoint. I happily rediscovered this place with my girlfriend last week after having not been for several years and we where blown away. All you can eat buffet for under $17 per person, food was packed full of flavor and not dumbed down for white people, everything was fresh and they had extensive selections of all of my favorite Indian dishes. Im still in shock that they have managed to keep the price so low and affordable for how good quality their food is. Its truly a must go place if ypu live in Austin, and worth the trip to the Northside if you live down south like us. We will probably come back once a week from now on, thats how good it is. Take it from a local, you CANT miss this place!
I've had a long buffet at Star, and gotta give credit for their ensemble. Loved the chicken tikka so much!
I’ve been eating here for 20 plus years. It’s by far my favorite Indian food in town. For my Texan palate it is the perfect level of spice and seasonings. I eat their buffet every time I go and I feel every item is well done every time. They have great consistency with their food, service and employees. They are a locally owned family run restaurant and really bring the quality.
The food here is absolutely fantastic! The customer service is amazing — the staff makes you feel welcomed and valued from the moment you walk in. This is truly the best place in town for Indian food. Their buffet offers more than 50 items, and everything tastes delicious. There are so many options to choose from, and each dish is flavorful and fresh. The prices are very affordable for the quality and variety they provide. The owner is also very friendly and personally talks to customers, which makes the experience even more special. Highly recommended! 🙌
Our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised! Saturday night you could choose a buffet or regular dinner menu. We decided to try a buffet, which I'm usually not a fan of. It was delicious and fresh. Great service and beautiful relaxing atmosphere. Definitely will be back!
I love, love, love Star of India. It’s my absolute favorite! We especially love to come during the weekdays due their wonderful lunch buffet. It’s delicious, with amazing samosas and garlic naan! And the best ice tea in town, hands down!!
Efrain the manager does a great job. He is nice and courteous. He takes care to make sure everyone has a wonderful dining experienceThe food is very good. This is a great place to eat. It seems as they upgraded the buffet and it is way better
I have been coming here for years and the food is always great! You can’t go wrong with either the buffet or the menu items. Efrain is a warm and welcoming server who adds to the experience with his sharp and vibran attire!
Great food. An easy way to enjoy a great variety of indian dishes in one sitting. I love their chicken curry, samosas and the new GOAT curry. Nothing is overly spicy. Delish.
We've been coming here for many years, and have always been graciously welcomed. The food has always been delicious, even with slight variations over time. They have a more complete buffet option now. We will be going for many more years!
Seriously SO good! My partner and I got the dinner buffet and it was wonderful. All the flavors were sensational, prices were very fair and the staff was super kind. 10/10 suggest you eat here!
Absolutely good food. Great service, friendly servers. Very good dish selection. Very good tasting water and ice. Backround music was at exactly the right volume. That Efrain guys was very good. If you haven't been, that's on you. GO!!!
I always get this place on ubereats and the deals are always great! I always get whatever that’s available on the buy one get one free deal. Waiting on my chettinad curry as we speak. It’s pretty tried and true curry that’s also close to our house. I recommend eating here!
The food is always amazing! Theonly thing I missed during this last visit was the lamb meatballs, but the other ones you prepared with beef and chicken were good! Another preference of mine is that you use Lipton or another American brand to make your iced tea! 🙏 either way, my friends and I love it here! My Christian Singles Fellowship Lunch group meets here at least once every two months. Thanks for being such amazing hosts!
Had a really good experience here. The chicken biryani was amazing, full of flavor and cooked perfectly. The reception was warm and the staff were very friendly. One small tip: if you prefer spicy food, make sure to mention it while ordering because the default isn’t very spicy. Overall, great food and great service. Definitely recommend
We had a lovely dinner here last night. The food was delicious, the wine was great, and the atmosphere was just perfect — clean, spacious, and comfortable. There’s plenty of room between the tables, and the music isn’t too loud, which makes it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. Highly recommend!
I hadn't been to Star of India in years. They've been in their location for over 20 years.. and that says a lot about a restaurant in Austin. The fact that they've managed to exist for that long definitely means they have delicious food. I love their buffet. You can have a taste of everything, and no matter what you try, it will be good. And the chocolate chip cookies are THE BEST!
Wow! I’m really not a buffet person but I was shopping and just thought I’d check it out. Immediately the service was so welcoming I had no choice but to stay. The lunch buffet is served from 11-2:30. The selections vary from fresh fruit, vegetables, salad, vegetarian options, chicken, lamb and more. Where can you get unlimited naan and make a plate as saucy as you want it?! The flavors were amazing. Some spicy some mild. They also have a dessert bar! I have no idea what they were but I tried a small bowl of each one. Let’s just say my inner child was really happy with these puddings. The service was always very attentive and small random detail but the water was so fresh and crisp too… and always full! I will definitely be back.
Let me start off by saying, the customer service is excellent, and the food was fresh and super good, you can tell they really love their customers, just the over all quality of everything is amazing will be a continuous customer. Definitely take the chance and give this place a shot you will become a regular.
So this was my first time trying Indian food, and it was definitely a really good experience, from great waiters to amazing food!! The lamb meatballs and butter chicken and seafood curry ugh absolutely stunning, definitely give this place a try, and the cheese and garlic butter Nan is really good! Made fresh Also the price is definitely affordable definitely worth it will be returning
Great place to go eat. They have a variety of dishes and the buffet is open for dinner on the weekends. We enjoyed everything besides the saga which felt off to both of us. That and the chutney + raita not being convenient to scoop were the only big yiffs I had about this place. But yeah, naan and vegetable samosas were great. They do a generous pour of the mango lassi. Their paneer was alright and the curries to go with everyone was decently seasoned. The chili shrimp was fire. Go here if you got some pescatarian/vegetarians/enjoyers of food and they'd love it.
Had the buffet on Saturday night. The food was very dry, the buffet is not worth it. Also the server was very distant towards me, not an enjoyable experience. If someone is coming here, it might be better to order from the menu. Do not come here for the buffet, limited choices and lack of quality. It was extremely quiet and empty Saturday night, not necessarily a bad thing, but it was definitely very awkward.
I am extremely disappointed with my experience here. I ordered the Star Special Biriyani, expecting their #1 signature dish to be high quality, but it was a total letdown. The food didn't taste fresh at all. Most concerningly, the chicken was undercooked, felt cold in the middle, and was completely tasteless. You don't expect this kind of quality from a "special" dish. If their best offering tastes like this, I don't think there is anything else on the menu worth trying. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a good Biriyani.
I ordered the Star Biryani through Uber Eats app. I must say, I have never been more disappointed looking at a Biryani. The rice was soggy, and the meat was definitely not fresh and had an odd taste. This biryani looked and tasted more like a soggy fried rice. The place looks really nice, but I was highly, highly disappointed with the food. The only silver lining was the Raita that came with it, which was delicious. I will most likely never order from this place ever again.
Ordered Saag Paneer and Matar Paneer from this place. Both dishes had a piece of meat inside them. This is pretty upsetting for a religious vegetarian person like myself. If you're vegetarian, you should think twice before eating here. It's totally unacceptable to find meat pieces in vegetarian curries.
