I love the VORTEX. There is always something awesome happening at the VORTEX. The butterfly bar makes drink specials for shows and patrizis is a super delicious italian food truck on the property. You have to go to this local venue and see as many shows as you can.

This is the best place we've been to in Austin. Friendly service. We sat outside by a fire pit. Didn't get to experience the theatre but it sounded like fun. Get there and check it out.

Affordable drinks, decent cocktails. Wouldn't go here for a fancy cocktail. Food truck in yard is great. Good atmosphere.

The cinnamon drink, I can't remember the real name but I could drink it everyday. This is an after work total me time, drink away the stress of the day, daydream you are in the mountains looking at the snow fall lightly on beautiful, tall fluffy, green pine trees and mountain peaks hahahahaha!! One of the last authentically cool places in Austin. The deaththroes of the "Keep Austin Weird" motivation is easily seen here. Chill spot in a central neighborhood just off of Manor. It's the Austin most people think about when they say they want to move here. Bar staff are genuine humans. They work hard to take care of the guests and do a damm good job about it. With Patrizi's right there you also have some great food with the space.

Where do I start with Juanita and Dustin?! As a veteran bartender and server, I watched them twirl gracefully with a line out the door, never looking stressed while a sea of patrons asked them for a never ending complicated combo of cocktails and beer. I had messed something up, and while other bartenders elsewhere would have given me a full eyeroll in a rush like that, Juanita just hopped on it and grabbed the beverages I needed swiftly and kindly. True professionals with dynamite personalities. To top it off- my boyfriend outside didn’t even know how swamped they were and said his old fashioned was FANTASTIC. Very much enjoyed my drinks and will be back soon! Props to these guys for holding it down tonight.

Cool, local spot, paired up with the Vortex and Patrizis (Italian food truck) to make a nice little outdoor music venue, good drinks, local experience. They frequently have a live band. Theater on the inside.

Nice place inside an area called "Vortex" which also has an Italian food truck, some kind of live theatre, and an outdoor smoking area. So don't be confused when parking in the Vortex only area. Free wifi available with email address. Staff and other customers are quite friendly.

Very interesting place. I’ve gone here to play trivia and i loved the set up. I also like how they had a voting center during 2020 elections. Food is good, atmosphere is great.

Fun place nestled back in the woods to grab a drink. The sangria is great and they have a $15 bottle of house red or house white every night! IF you've got a little group, sit in the little house at the back of the yard and share something from Patrizis! Sometimes they have great music, and during the early evenings it's a great place to bring your kids because they can run around on the stage!

Ran across this place after a visit to Haymaker. Absolutely love the layout and variety of drinks and surprising food options (Patrizi's Trailer). I had a prosecco with an infusion of Deep Eddy Ruby Red Vodka. Delicious and very strong. The patio that hugs the bar is spacious and welcoming. If you are lucky enough to score the table in the greenhouse (towards the back), it is a quiet, intimate space and great for small parties. I shared my Patrizi Squash WOP Burger with a few friends and it was incredible. They stop serving pasta after 10 pm (apparently, the pasta is handmade ... totally going back this week). The chill, quiet ambiance, partnered with the amazing drinks and very friendly staff make this place a solid 5. A true diamond in the rough.

From plays, to craft beers, to quirky ambiance, this place has an overall awesome vibes. Great for groups. They compost, recycle, send things to the land fill. What more do ya want?

Hands down, my absolute favorite patio in Austin besides my own. A loose and happy environment, flavored by the gloriously ever-weird Vortex Theater. Say hi and I'll buy you a drink.

Inside the Vortex Theater is the Butterfly Bar, a casual East Austin hang out with an intimate bar and outside patio. Almost nightly, the bar has an event or live music to enjoy while drinking local beer such as Independence Stash IPA, wine or specialty cocktails. TIPS: Open daily from 5pm-midnight, 1am on Saturdays.

Love this place. And word of advice.. do NOT form a line at the bar! They will actually make fun of you and urge you to go straight to the bar. I love the bartenders and vibe. Favorite place to have a good drink in a quirky environment!

Cute bar, great patio for when the weather is nice. The inside is small - like it's very much meant to be a location that you sit outside. Plus there are a few property cats that rule the roost.

So happy we found the vortex, the pasta food truck and this bar. Had a lovely evening with friends in this chill garden atmosphere. Cocktails were excellent and the service friendly.

The line service while waiting to order food was something i never expected. Two different employees greeted us and offered knowledgeable discussion about the entire menu. They were polite, professional, and genuine in their opinions. Excellent bruschetta and garlic toast. And the amazing Reilly Downes came to town from Chicago to perform some sad cowgirl music for us. I was quite impressed with the atmosphere of the place. I hate bars, but I would go back to this place time and again if that experience was representative of what can always be expected.

A nice beer and wine bar. If you're looking for a relaxed place to come, have a beer, or perhaps a glass of wine, this is the place. They have a fantastic outside area with some seating inside. The atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. They are attached to a theatre, which i'm told has really great events; although, i have never been. They have an amazing food trailer in outside, which makes a great date. A lovely pasta dish and a bottle of wine.

The drinks are great - some cool unique cocktails and a good mixed drink/beer list. Very friendly cats that hang around the grounds (or indoors on cold winter days). If you've got allergies, watch out. It's got a great Italian food truck with freshly-made pasta out front. Cool decor with lots of lights. They light a fire pit in winter sometimes. Shaded outdoor area for summer too. And it's close to a few Mexican places, so you can get a to-go order and eat it over beers at this bar.

Fantastic Italian food truck with plenty of outdoor and patio seating. Great live music on some nights, $4 sangria. Awsome beer selection! Other notable qualities: They have hula hoops for use outside. 2 cats of substantial size and a bowl of Jolly Ranchers in the women's restroom.

So I dug this place before the pandemic, let me say that first. A great place to grab a good drink before or after a show at the vortex! Nice staff, good drinks, fun decor, and kitties to scritch on. That being said, they get ALL of the bonus points for doing everything right, during this pandemic. Masks required. You get your temperature checked and give info for contact tracing (all with a sanitized pen, and plenty of hand sanitizer present), to the friendly host up front. They then take you to your very-safely-distanced table. You then order your drinks online. (And can order online some badass food from Patrizi's food truck, which I highly recommend!) A masked server then comes out with your drinks. Rinse. Repeat. Tip fat! Wear your mask when a staff member is present! (And please, unlike some folks that we saw there, only dine\drink with members of your household\pod\bubble\whatever. Help stop the spread!) I love them!

Juanita and Jenny were my bartenders and they really took care of me and the friends I was with. I’m a fan of fun new drink recipes and they had perfect suggestions for me to try. All the drinks we tried were really delicious! I love that they have a ever changing menu that the bartenders create based on the season. Can’t wait to see what drinks they have next time I visit!

This place is exactly what Manor Rd is. Super fun bar with a great outdoor area. Seems to always have some sort of band or art performance happening outdoors. Also has an Italian food trailer outside. Bartenders are friendly and they have a bunch of unique mixed drinks.

Divey but really good service. Expect cans and full pours here for $5-7 for beer and cocktails $8. Great service that is quick and active, not the typical where you're standing there trying to make eye contact for 10 minutes. Patrizi's out back so you got great food with good drink; not best selection of beer but local Texas. Got a projector on the wall for special showings, but expect a hangout on most nights and not a get-some-work-done type of venue. Overall a good spot and easy to find parking out back.

The best local bar within a few mile radius with only one downside—they close up at midnight due to neighborhood zoning laws. Butterfly has lots of character, and offers signature cocktails, a variety of wine and beer, and cheap tall boys for those looking to save a few bucks. The outside seating area is the highlight, with lots of patio tables and a fire pit on cooler evenings. The bar also shares space with a few restaurants and a local theatre. You’ll see plays happening in a small one-room building outside, and the main stage is positioned directly in front of the seating area, although I’ve never seen it in use. Inside, the bartenders are kind and knowledgeable, and the ambience is Austin-weird and comfortably casual. A great place to bring friends! 5/5

this place is just darling. been in quarantine since March so haven’t gone to any restaurants, etc. went here with some friends a few weeks ago because they assured me the butterfly bar was taking very good covid precautions. they were correct - I felt safe and comfortable with the precautions this place has taken during the pandemic and it was such a treat to have a nice meal socially distanced with friends. highly recommend this place.

The is one of the most Austiny bars I've ever been to. Staff is loosey goosey weird af, the outdoor seating area is filled with random items and there's a house cat that was just chillin'. With all that said, it was a cool spot. Super chill, music not too loud, bar staff was friendly and pretty fast.

Showed up on a whim with 3 friends and was met with consistently exceptional service and thought! The hosts took our temperature at check in which made us feel extra safe around the patrons dining around us. we were immediately sat at a table (no wait- love it!) and our waitress Jaunita was lovely and timely. we ended up hanging out for a few hours and for dinner at Patrizi’s (which we fully recommend 👍🏼)! We will be back soon, but until then, drink well!

Butterfly bar is cute, with a sweet outdoor venue. There is very often live shows going on, otherwise the vibe is nice and cozy. The drink options are solid. Definitely a staple spot in the area 🙂

GO HERE!!! When we arrived here we thought it was simply another bar on Manor Rd. It was SO MUCH more. We were greeted by a lovely woman who explained the food truck of the evening, the bar, outdoor/indoor venues, and the live theatre. Everything was wonderful- people, atmosphere, food and drinks... but the show at The Vortex blew my mind! Polly Mermaid and Apocalypse WOW! was showing, but there is always an array of fresh live entertainment. GO and enjoy!

The butterfly bar is my favorite place in town. I’m so glad it reopened. The staff are very careful when it comes to keeping everything clean and they have heaters outside now for winter. Patrizio’s food truck - arguably the best Italian cuisine you’ll find in Austin - is also open and still located right outside the bar.

My partner and I went to the Butterfly Bar last night for a next day off from work cocktail. We had a wonderful experience. The patio atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The drinks were delicious and our bartender Regan went the extra *THREE* miles to explain the nitty-gritty details of our cocktails. Easygoing atmosphere, super informed bartender - yes, a bit pricey (what else is new nowadays) - so I highly recommend!

This is a beautiful place! Outside patio, Italian food truck(that is to die for), and a live theater! The staff is super friendly and, the drinks are killer. There are even cats that will come sit with you! You'll wanna check it out for sure. It's also family and dog friendly!

If you're looking for a spot that gives you the feeling of what Austin bars should really feel like, this is it. With eccentric lighting, decorations, and drinks, this place feels unaffected by the overwhelming amount of boujee/modernist bars growing throughout Austin. Great drinks, lovely atmosphere, and a black cat that roams around makes this a classic favorite of mine.

What a gem. Great environment and though the bar service can be slow, the pasta place here is fan-freaking-tastic! Had live music when we were there on Sunday at 7 and the two different bands really added to the ambiance. Check this place out for an enjoyable evening out in Austin.

Great bar, hidden gem in East Austin. Great place to hang outside, late night. The Italian food truck is pretty good too. Seen a couple of bands play on the small outdoor stage, cool place to chill and listen. Haven't seen anything in their theater yet.

The Butterfly Bar, as well as Patrizi’s (Italian food truck and Austin staple), are both part of the Vortex, a live theater venue with extensive outdoor seating. The Butterfly Bar has an 100-year-old bar top, a small area for indoor seating, friendly staff, and plenty of clean gender neutral bathrooms. But I’m here to hype up their red sangria! It’s very refreshing and has the perfect blend of wine and fruit flavors. And if you’re feeling hungry, check out the pastas at Patrizi’s!

Brilliant venue, a large and unpretentious space that's super comfortable. If I lived here, I'd be at the VORTEX most nights! The bartenders were really nice and the drinks were delicious + priced really fairly. I loved how well coordinated it was with the show (Radium Girls), and of course their cat was kingly and amazing.

Super nice place, great bluegrass night on the 3rd Wednesday of month that we were lucky enough to be in town for. No draft beer (as far as I could see) but that's ok. Unfortunately we missed the pasta truck, they put up the sold out sign just as we were walking up but that's our fault for leaving it too late, it smelled amazing though! Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Super friendly staff, a great atmosphere and great drinks. The cats are lovely as well. I wish there was more outside space that was smoke free as I often feel surrounded by smoke when I'm there. I'm not sure if this changed since the deck was remodeled, but I remember there used to be a non smoking outdoor section. I'd love to see that re-established.

1st. What an absolutely stunning setting. If you’re looking to have a high class cocktail in a beautiful garden with hundreds of lights, you’ve found the place to go. 2nd. The fire pit. Need I say more? 3rd. The service is amazing. The bartenders make delicious drinks and are incredibly friendly. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve had conversations with the Manager and they remember my name and ask me about my life. Jenny, Juanita, Qasim…they are the go to Friday crew and they’ll take great care of you. 4th. You can’t beat the pours.

I wish I had photos of the plays to share with you because they are typically really fantastic. I've had a few that were so-so and one that was a complete let-down, but I'm generally extremely impressed and entertained. The atmosphere is very cozy and inviting. There is a bar cat that occasionally pokes its head around and finds nice nooks to take naps. There is an indoor stage and an outdoor stage for the performances. The drinks are pretty, but I haven't tried enough to give a firm recommendation on them.

A very pleasantly surprising find. After pulling around the fence, where my GPS had pinpointed it, basically the backyard I was wondering "is this... hey looks like the back of somebody's house. A private party!" I thought. Not private at all Anyone and everyone is welcome. When I swung around to the parking lot which is very paved and very clean, signage a little bit art deco, a little bit commercial, yet aged enough so it does not look sterile... It was like I found an Austin retreat I used to search for in the dawn of this millennium. A magical little wave of established oaks, fresh beer, a few curious cats were responsible, I'm sure, for all of it. They acted as though they owned the place, anyway. The cityscape dissapeared. I was immersed in a rustic inverted chateau. The decor transmuted as though someone had experienced the deep realms of spiritualism using only natural ingredients, they had remembered that art in its purest form has the characteristics that warms the heart. The warmth of smiling eyes was abundant as the heat from the fire pits. An artist, indistinguishable as child or adult, had lent graffiti a space where it spread and became icon I smiled. I smiled like I had not smiled in years, I can feel the muscle stretch with that old familiar joy and happiness. A place of comfort. A place where anything could happen, but it could become a haunt. Here were little snippets of The Enchanted Forest, There, a section of the universe carved and transplanted from the Spider House. The joyous sound of children being children and parents being parents yet remembering their childhood together with everybody, and everyone enjoying a show outside, was Freddie's reborn? A band. great food. You'll never be able to tell from the streets surrounding it. The fence you can't see over, yet the energy, the aura of the place scales upward into the sky like a rainbow that doesn't end. There's abundant seating that could never be cramped, no cliques would form because everyone belongs to the same group. Inside is like a compacted (spotlights) Dog and Duck, with a bar reminiscent of Lovejoy's. And to the right, for some strange reason Ester's Follies echoed in my mind, back when actors would proposition the streetwalkers on 6th during the barricade hours order to draw paying customers into their Boudoir.

Wonderful space, nice indoor and outdoor areas. We ate zucchini noodles with amazing sauce and a meatball from the pasta truck that was so tasty! We came for a fundraiser, but if I lived closer, I'd be back frequently!

Butterfly Bar has a lot going for it. It's in the effortlessly cool neighborhood around Manor, it's got a rocking outdoor patio area, a further secluded corner of said outdoor area, some truly excellent cocktails, and a really lovely bar staff. Also one time they were playing "The Jungle Book" on their big screen indoors, which was vastly entertaining. It's a little disconcerting that the curtains sectioning off the stalls in the ladies' don't really do a good job of covering you up, and the drinks may be a bit on the pricier side for the slightly thrown-together aesthetic of the place, but that being said, I know I'll always have a good night here. Pro-tip: get the Tennessee Ginger. To die for.

Cool atmosphere. There's a menu with seasonal cocktails, but also a full bar. I went for a drink with coworkers and loved the different seating options as our group got bigger. Bartenders make the drink just a little strong so you get your moneys worth. Only star I took off is parking is limited, so get here early!

I really like this space, great mezcal margaritas, ample sitting options, cool burlesque shows and delicious italian food (Patrizi's food truck) I appreciate that it's a very short drive from my house, so it will more than likely become one of my go to places. Parking can be a bit of a nightmare especially on trivia night, so plan accordingly.

Love this outdoor space and the food trucks but I must have hit them on an off day. The app they use to order drinks wouldn't load on my phone so I had to get my friend to order for me. Margarita and wine was good (they do have a happy hour till 7) but I ordered one of the gin drinks (aviator) and it had a weird bitter aftertaste. My friend got the same, she tried mine and said it tasted different. I did have to wait for close to 15 min to get my drinks which I found a little surprising on a Wednesday before it got busy. I'm planning on giving this another shot. 5 stars for sweet kitties.

Vortex is one of those cool outdoor food truck and bar combos. The food truck serves a multitude of al dente pasta dishes, plus appetizers. The bar serves since cool specialty drinks. Both the bar and the outside area have live music, so eat, drink listen to music and have fun.

Hard to find bar but the old fashion vibe gives away to classic cocktails. The honeysuckle cocktail is one of their specialities but I found it a tad too sweet, still great to sip on during a summer evening

No atmosphere. The bar was brightly lit and since no one was really hanging out inside, just ordering drinks for patrizis, there was just a long line for the bar. The bartenders seemed peeved to be there and did a poor job of directing the patrons. The whole experience was weird.

This is the place for casual outdoor drinking and they have plenty bug spray ready for you. Be warned that they don't serve very much food so come for the drinks and hula hoops. Kid friendly as well.

Butterfly Bar is one of the originals on Manor Road. It is a part of what can best be described as a compound as it's paired with the Vortex and Patrizi's so the whole place can really be happening. What makes Butterfly Bar great? First off, its atmosphere. You'll find life music pretty much all the time. Butterfly Bar doesn't just have a patio. It's got a yard! As such, there's plenty of space to hang out with a big group of your friends. On warmer evenings, this is truly a great place to be. On cooler nights (when there is no burn ban in effect), they'll have fire pits around which you'll find revelers congregated. What else? Well, their prices. Drinks are simply affordable even at their regular prices. They have a full bar and a selection of wines and canned/bottled beers. They've even got some great cool weather drinks. However, it's missing anything on tap. And you know what? That's just a shame.

Exterior experience: amazing. Interior experience: I just want to order my drink and go back outside. The interior is basically a large room with a very fancy bar and not enough furniture to fill the room. Oh, and they're projecting movies on the wall... I understand the draw of this place being the exterior, but dress up the inside just a little bit.

So my boyfriend loves this place and I just could not fall in love. The drinks were not to my taste but I see how it could for sure be for other people. I hear the food truck was great, so I'll go back and try it! Maybe I need to give this place a second chance. But for now. It was just meh. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go here.

Butterfly Bar is a small bar next to Patrizi’s offering some decent drinks, but at a bit of a steeper price. It’s clean and has a bit of a cozy vibe to it and the bartenders are very friendly. We ordered a paper plane and a run punch. They didn’t have fruit punch for the rum punch, so they Frankenstein’d a drink together for us. The paper plane was pretty good, but the rum punch was a bit of a miss, especially considering they didn’t have the stuff to make it. Altogether, the experience wasn’t bad but for Austin it felt pricey and with ½ drinks being a miss we probably wouldn’t stop by again.

Courtyard and food truck: great. Bar and drinks: mweh. First of all, they come in plastic cups (hello environment! Covid is not an excuse for everything). They’re also expensive for what they are. Management also very condescending. My advice: get a beer (can’t go wrong) and enjoy the food of Patrizi’s in the amazing courtyard.

The bartender at the bar is rubbing her ears with both hands and without washing her hands she opened my beer can also they are both screaming like crazy literally screaming not exaggerating they don’t have any draft beer and the place is very over rated, the smell of the indoor part is horrible it smell like pee, Also they don’t serve food only at the food truck which is out of any protein and they serve only pasta it was 9 pm what a horrible management.

I came here to have casual drinks with friends and cannot for the life of me figure out why the staff is extremely rude! My money will be going to other businesses- I hope the owner realizes that their staff is driving customers away.

Used to be a regular. Incredibly rude bar tenders made suggestions about how I was raised bc I didn't like the drink he made. Accused me of not understanding waste management. Poor poor customer service. Really a shame, I used to love this place.

I have NEVER experienced bar tenders this rude before. WORST SERVICE I have had in Austin period. If you aren’t a 19 year old white girl in little to no clothing expect them to treat you like dirt. Austin is wonderful for all types of people this place is not and the drinks aren’t good. I would give it negative stars if I could.

A great place to go if you want to get sneered at by boring losers who are incapable of making a simple cocktail. Extremely sorry I politely and friendly asked you to make a drink (your job). I'll refrain from doing so in the future. Also, I didn't say anything, but I recognized the band shirt you were wearing. That band is terrible and I wouldn't be caught dead advertising such incredibly awful taste in public. Maybe when your staff discovers decent taste in music they can discover basic customer service!

My boyfriend and I love the bar and patrizis. We came here for a relaxing dinner. There was a political campaign going on. It wasn’t about not agreeing but the last thing my bf wanted for a relaxing dinner and drinks was a political campaign over taking our serenity. He paced around. I mostly had to eat by myself and he made us move inside even though it was a pretty day. I could have tuned it out but he couldn’t. So my experience was ruined as a result of all this. We are all ready bombarded with politics all the time with our conformist cookie cutterl society. Politics already control social media and the news and it’s hard to get away. Politics and dinner do not mix. Not sure if we’ll be back even though we have always liked it and been here 100 times.

I love the atmosphere but was highly offended by being called a bro and not to congregate in the middle of the patio. I highly enjoyed the glares from the inside bartender while ordering lone stars from the bar. My group was 75% of the population of this bar. If you are cool and pretentious this is for you. The Applebees food truck was amazeballs.
