Opinions de Sour Duck Market Austin
Neighborhood restaurant and bar right around the corner from our air bnb we went here every day. The burger was amazing. The fries amazing and I am picky with fries. The fried chicken sandwich looked good but it is a thigh and I only like white breast chicken in my sandwiches. The Paloma and the turmeric vodka cocktails were the fan favorites. Loved ordering and paying from our phones made everything so easy and seamless. The courtyard was perfect for our large group while we waited for our air bnb.
Pup friendly! Wonderful happy hour! Great smash burger! Amazing Paloma! The salt foam was a nice touch. The Mexican vanilla sundae was the perfect sweet treat to top it all off.
This place is great! We’ve been here many times and have always had such a good time here. The pork sandwich was excellent and tasty. My wife loved the tomato and corn salad and oscraviis it again. The desserts we ordered were the Blondie and the upside blueberry muffin cake. They were delicious. The downside to this restaurant is the don't top off the drinks. Every drink we ordered had about 3/4 to an inch of wasted space from being full. Disappointed about this. Good place for kids to roll around in the little chalky rocks on the ground too. Bring some wipes.
🦆Sour Duck Market🦆 Being in the odd duck family has a lot of prestige around it and Sour Duck hits this high mark! Went for a summer brunch and the food was just impeccable. The watermelon salad was so refreshing but also unique in flavor, loved this. The goat tostada with egg was so rich in flavor and made me so happy. Loved this as it was very breakfast and unique in a Texas way. The Texas hash had the most amazing sauce on it that made my mouth water - so filling yet not greasy and just was the best with all the veggies. We topped things off with this dulce deal leche cake which was not too sweet but massive in graham flavor and this made me so so happy. The food is VERY well priced for the quantities and quality . Will be back many more times!!
i lazily ordered two loaves of bread to my hotel from here and loved them both. got the sliced seeded sourdough and the baguette. the baguette really impressed and the organic flour sourdough was rich and tangy, just the way sourdough should be! didn’t expect austin to have such a gem, but then, i would have known!
Love this spot, cool neighborhood hangout. Wish I lived around the corner to come and hang, grab a drink or grab a coffee and pastry throughout the week. Good pastries/baked goods. Not the best kouign amann I’ve had but good! The cheeseburger and fries was amazing. Breakfast taco was pretty good too. Great fresh squeezed juice
This is a great place for brunch, coffee and pastries. Food was amazing, service was fast and they are dog friendly. I had the fried chicken covered in chicken sausage gravy topped with corn and fried egg. It was very fantastic. I also recommend their coffee and pastries. The lemon pound cake was super delicious.
Sour Duck Market in Austin is a hidden gem combining the best casual dining with high-quality, locally sourced food. Located on Austin's east side, this spot offers a laid-back, open-air atmosphere that feels trendy and inviting. It is a perfect spot for anyone who loves good food without the formality. Can't wait to comeback! Instagram: eatwithjarco
I was luckily enough to watch the Juneteenth parade from this cute cafe. Outdoor shared picnic tables, friendly service, and delicious food -- and a prime spot for the parade, with dance troupes stopping in front of the restaurant to perform -- made this spot an unforgettable part of my visit to Austin. Terrific breakfast tacos.
OMG, this place is amazing. The food is phenomenal. We started with avocado toast and the pretzel. We had Arnold Palmer and ginger beer as our drinks. The Smoked Chicken, 44 Farms Cheese burger and Spring salad were our meals. Every single bite was delicious. This was my first visit and won't be my last. Thank you Sour Duck Market for the unique and satisfying experience.
Came for lunch. Loved the yummy selections. The rutabaga tots were really good! Would love to return back for Happy Hour and looks like a great spot to bring the pups! Parking was easy and they had a second larger lot to accommodate overflow parking. Always a PLUS in Austin. I will be back!
My goodness I love this place. Best burger I’ve ever had, order at the table, fast service, beer on tap, baked goods, coffee. What more could you want?? new favorite place.
This place is super cute. It has plenty of shaded outdoor seating. I had a peach tea with a seeded pretzel, breakfast taco, and a chocolate chip cookie. The seeded pretzel came out fresh and hot. The breakfast taco was a lot bigger than I expected. It was a French fry, egg taco topped with pico and hot sauce. The cookie is massive. I definitely want to go back and try their savory pastries.
Visited Sour Duck Market for brunch and absolutely loved it. The Devon’s Hot Chicken Sandwich was spicy, juicy, and perfectly balanced with pickles and slaw, and their Peeler Farms Wagyu Double Cheeseburger (with American & pimento cheese on a challah bun) was bursting with flavor. The Smoked Mushroom Danish made for a sweet, savory pastry treat to start. The vibe is laid-back and cozy — part bakery, part beer garden — and the staff were warm and helpful (they even talked me through their seasonal menu items). Great spot to linger over coffee, a pastry, or a full meal.
Very solid restaurant. Wanted to try something new on our recent visit to Austin this past week and Sour Duck was the choice. The burger reminded me of those old school triangle building Whataburger patties from the 90s. Great flavor and solid bun. The salad and dressing were on point as well. We would definitely stop by again and try the bakery on our next visit as well.
On my recent visit to Austin I literally took my peckish stomach straight from the airport to here. Yes, it’s that good. Whether it’s the artisanal sourdough bread, craft cocktails, or seasonal dishes du jour, they’re all made with farm fresh ingredients and creative originality. The casual vibe lets you enjoy the delectable food without fancy dining fuss, with options of indoor bar seating or outdoor picnic tables. And extra accolades to SD for applying technology to a mobile phone based ordering system that lets you order dishes efficiently and independently without the hassle of waiting to be waited on.
What a great place for breakfast and lunch! There’s lots of treats with my favourite being the buckwheat financier. I’ve had the kouign amann before but unfortunately this time it was dry on the inside and no crunch on the outside. The chocolate chip cookie is good, I think it has a hint of cinnamon, which makes it different than your usual choco chip. I got the red fish toast and the breakfast sandwich with avo instead of ham. The buns on the sandwich are sooo fluffy and the crema was light and complimented the avocado well. The red fish toast was by far the star of the show. The fish was Smokey, the dill added a nice freshness and the onions gave it some crunch. We came on a really rainy day and was pleased so see how much indoor seating there was. I’d love to stop by on a sunny day and enjoy the outdoor seating too. I highly recommend!!
I absolutely love Sour Duck Market! From the moment you walk in, it’s got this laid-back, Austin vibe that makes you feel right at home. The outdoor patio is the perfect spot to kick back with friends, especially when the weather’s nice. The food is just incredible. Everything on the menu feels fresh and unique, and you can really taste the quality in every bite. I tried a few small plates and one of their sandwiches, and each one was better than the last. Plus, the smoked meats are honestly some of the best I’ve had. They also have a great selection of local beers and cocktails—perfect for any time of day. The staff is super friendly, and you can tell they really care about making sure you have a great experience. If you’re in Austin and want a spot with great food, drinks, and atmosphere, you really have to check this place out.
Yeah, this is probably my favorite neighborhood spot. Happy hour 7 days a week? They have it. Is it good? It’s exceptional. Do they have one of the best drinks in the city for $6 on that happy hour? Yes, it’s the Paloma with the salt foam. How’s their burger though? Amazing. And it’s $6. $9 if you want 2 patties. Ok but they wouldn’t happen to have one of the best soft serve ice creams in the city would they? They would. And it’s $3. Basically as good as it gets with fast casual dining in Austin. The closest competition would probably be Loro if they had the balls to match the audacity of this happy hour. It’s a great spot outside of happy hour too.
I loved this place!! Laid back, welcoming and somehow hip atmosphere at the same time. White bean lamb stew was absolutely delicious. Hummus was great- taste, presentation, everything. Fried broccoli and fried chicken sandwich were too spicy for my taste, but this place still gets 5 stars from me. You order at the table, via QR code scanning; both drinks and food arrived almost instantaneously. I hope to be back.
This was my first time visiting Sour Duck Market, and it's definitely a new favorite spot. I was getting an assortment of pastries for clients, and David went above and beyond to help me put together the perfect selection. I really appreciate the effort he put into it; his help was invaluable! Great restaurant group and even better customer service. Highly recommend stopping by!
An icon! This is THE place to be for happy hour. The drinks and burgers are worth it at full price. During happy hour, there are a steal. How about some breakfast? Coffee and pastries are fantastic. Beyond the food, the service speed and friendliness is phenomenal. What more can you ask.
Everything was so darn yummy. The staff was super friendly and I love the atmosphere. They have restored my faith in trying Austin's food. My husband, son, and niece agree that this place is a must try. Don't forget happy hour burgers and drinks. Dessert was on point as well so leave room yall; or take it to go but don't skip out.
Good food fun place. The perfect combo. You order online at the table and can keep a tab open if you're not certain that you are done. That means waiters come out when your food is ready (really fast), but otherwise, leave you be. No constant interruption. I loved it. I highly suggest the daily specials if you are not that into sandwiches. Large outdoor space, with shade and misters for cool. But they also have an indoor space (by the bar) if a/c is a must. Off street parking!
This place is amazing. The food is a 10 out of 10. The customer service is on the point. The coffee is better than any starbucks you’ve ever had! Visiting from Dallas and very sad we don’t have one of these.
If you're looking for a delightful brunch spot, look no further than Sour Duck Market. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, perfect for a leisurely meal. The menu offers a great variety of classic brunch dishes, but the real stars are the pastries. Freshly baked and bursting with flavor, they are undoubtedly the best in town!
My friends and I enjoyed our lunch at Sour Duck Market. We had some cocktails (I can't remember which, but they were good), split some appetizers, then had our own entrees. We split the Seeded Pretzel with Queso and the Melon & Cucumber Salad. Both were good. I really enjoyed the salad because it was light, fresh, and had a really great flavor. I got the TX Farm Salad and my friends had the Wagyu Double Cheeseburger and the Torta Cubana. The salad was a pretty good size with lots of good flavor and textures. My friends enjoyed their sandwiches as well. I would like to come back and try more items, especially their pastries.
Stopped by while in Austin visiting my son, and I have to say the place was very busy and popular with the locals. My friend and Chef Jose said I had to try their burger and it didn't disappoint, they are smash burger style and it was so soft and buttery almost felt like I was eating a grill cheese sandwich. We also tried the chili and it was delicious didn't even get a chance to take a photo of it. I will definitely be visiting again when I go back to Austin. Arlin the bartender was very nice and helpful at the bar. Go Longhorns!
Sour Duck Market is a fantastic place for a delicious coffee and breakfast, or for a pleasant evening with some great cocktails. I enjoyed their coffee and the variety of pastries they offer. Moreover, we sampled their burgers, and both of them were delicious. This restaurant excels at blending intriguing ingredients in their dishes, so prepare for unique and novel flavors. And don't forget to save room for their honey cake – it's my favorite cake, and I highly recommend ordering it if you have a sweet tooth.
I wish I took pictures of my croissants but I ate them too fast. Moving from San Francisco where I’ve had some of the best croissants, Sour Duck’s plain and almond croissant are phenomenal. Crispy on top yet dense and tender in the middle, buttery. The rum cream filling isn’t too sweet but just right. I will def be ordering more croissants from Sour Duck 🦆
TL;DR: I went at happy hour and indeed was quite happy with everything! $6 burger, $6 drinks, good vibes. Will come back. Food: I went during happy hour, and I ordered a smash burger ($6), a paloma ($6), and an aperol spritz ($8). The burger is nothing extraordinary (just a patty and cheese), but it has a good flavor to it and is not greasy. I would totally order the paloma again: it has a nice subtle grapefruit flavor to it. Aperol spritz is a classic, but I would rather order another paloma! Service: You just scan a QR code to order, and you can open/close a tab easily. Love that it accepts Apple pay. Food came like 15 minutes before my drinks did, so there is definitely a bit of wait with drinks. Ambiance: I love the vibe out here -- it is essentially just a ton of benches with umbrellas to vibe at. A very chill outdoor experience, and all of my friends had positive things to say as well :)
((((WOW)))) The best breakfast sandwich I have ever had so far!! Freshly made bun(so airy), delicious avocado sauce. All the veggies added, made a perfect combination of flavors. My cappuccino was also a great compliment to my meal. Purchased a sour dough bread as a souvenir to take back home!
Great vibes and food. The bakery is awesome - everything is fresh. Lots of sourdough options, savory and sweet treats as well. All of their syrups are house made, which I love. I ordered a caramel latte and it was 10/10. Destiny, one of their staff members, was wonderful. She was kind and helpful. She also spoke very highly about all of their products in a very sincere way. Highly recommend :)
Came here for a group brunch. I had a good time. I had the fried chicken hash and it was delicious. The chicken is crispy and juicy. The potatoes were great and the sauce was addictive. Others for the goat brunch special, chilaquiles, and burger. Everyone enjoyed their meal and drinks. The food came out fast even though we ordered at different times because we were talking. The place is great for groups because everyone orders and pays individually by scanning a QR code. There are 2 small parking lots and I was lucky to get a space. I got the last one when I arrived and there were cars waiting for my spot when I left so try to get there early.
They had the best brunch and probably the best Michelada I have ever had, period. You can't beat a brunch location like this where the food is excellent, the staff is even better, and the location is supreme. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful Austin weather while sipping coffee, eating good food, and enjoying good company. 6/5 would go again.
Sour Duck Market in Austin absolutely knocked it out of the park. I ordered the Peeler Farms Wagyu double smash burger and it was unreal. Two perfectly smashed wagyu patties with incredible flavor, melty American and pimento cheese, crisp pickles, and their secret sauce all tied together on a soft challah bun. Every bite was balanced, rich, and insanely satisfying without being over the top. The season fries were just as impressive. Perfectly crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and seasoned exactly right. They held up great with the burger and were impossible to stop eating. This was hands down one of the best burgers I have ever had and easily top three of my life. If you are a burger fan and in Austin, Sour Duck Market is a must visit.
This is one of, if not the best, eating experiences in Austin. Fits the college vibe, and also gives a top tier culinary bite for anyone looking for something "other than normal" American experience. I've eaten and lived in over 15 countries - this place was a piece of Portugal and a whole-in-the-wall experience I use to get in Germany and Prague. And Grace was a sweetheart - thanks again! 😉
First time at Sour Duck Market, and it was such a great stop before our dinner plans! We came in for a light bite and some coffee, and it ended up being the perfect choice. I ordered a salted caramel decaf latte with almond milk, and my wife had a mocha with oat milk — both were delicious, cozy, and beautifully crafted. For food, we shared a vegetarian sandwich on focaccia (mushroom Philly–style — I forgot the exact name), but wow, it was amazing! The pickled onions, flavorful veggies, mushrooms, and that subtle hint of mustard all came together perfectly. We finished with the spiced potato cake, recommended by the staff, and it did not disappoint. It paired so well with my latte! We’ll definitely be back again. Cheers! 🥂
This place is so quaint and has very delicious food. The fries were well seasoned and the Smoked Turkey Sandwich was Devine! We went for Happy Hour and the sandwich was not on Happy Hour but we split it and we were satisfied. They make the turkey there, and the bread. Ben was at the bar and really was so friendly. He told us all about the food and he really was passionate and proud to serve such great food. The other bartenders- sorry, I didn’t get their name - but super friendly. I love this place and will tell all my friends.
Popped in for some breakfast as my partner and I were headed out of Austin and im so glad we stopped through! My partner got the breakfast taco, it was so good she went back to order a second! I got the breakfast sammy and an order of fries with the most amazing ketchup (im assuming housemade) I've ever had. The breakfast tacos have a very layered but balanced flavor, the milder cheese option works better here. The breakfast sammy (sausage) was well seasoned - the fresh onion, arugula blend and cilantro avacado sauce were just that added touch of creamy, herby flavor. The fries were most definitely cooked in beef tallow and tossed in a zesty seasoning blend. We also got a cocktail and a tequila sunrise, both were delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and if I lived in Austin id go back for dinner and some cold beers on the spacious patio area. When im back in town, ill most certainly be visiting the restaurant again.
Let me tell you about my first impression. I walked into this little gem and was immediately blown away by the sweet aroma of fresh bread and coffee. As a cozy girl who loves to coffee-hop around Austin, I can confidently say this will be my new go-to spot. Not only was the food amazing, but the people. I was warmly welcomed by the baristas, and the open kitchen concept was such a neat touch. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich, and it was the perfect level of spice: flavorful, enjoyable, and crispy in all the right ways. Every bite had me thinking, “Yeah… I’m definitely coming back.” And the fries? Oh, the fries. Not just salted, actually seasoned with a delicious blend of spices. I scarfed down that sandwich so fast I didn’t even have leftovers to take home. You’d think that was the end of it, but no. I treated myself to a slice of their honey cake, and it was instant serotonin. After six hours of studying, that slice genuinely revived me. Honestly, if they made it as a whole pie, I’d choose it as my birthday cake next year. To top it all off, one of the managers, Justin, noticed my pure bliss and surprised me with a box of pastry samples. I know it sounds dramatic, but it genuinely made me tear up. It’s the small things. Thank you, Sour Duck, for making my Monday a whole lot more tolerable and the kindness that reminded me how a simple gesture can make someone's day.
Patio happy hour is the place to be. A large set of picnic tables with lots of seating and a great happy hour menu! The smash burgers were delicious and the drinks refreshing. The fries and squash didn’t hit the mark. Officially updating my review - been back at least 5x since my original review. While I stand by my fries remark I have fallen in love with the bread and pastries from Sour Duck! The mushroom danish, rose pistachio cookie, fresh breads and pastries are just my favorite. I keep coming back
Parking was a little tight but wasn’t really an issue. Food was wonderfully delicious. I got a mushroom danish, I loved it but for my partner it wasn’t his cup of tea. We got the brisket sandwich and chicken sandwich. Both absolutely delish and you can feel the intention behind every ingredient for it. Maybe the chicken was a little better than the brisket one since the bread on that one was a little dryer. My friend got the sourdough melt and that was also absolutely delish. And for a little refreshing side, I enjoyed the smashed cucumbers. Service was good when you were met with a staff member. Most of it is self service. They had a stand for water, utensils, to go containers and plates. You order food from a QR code on your table. Food came out in a timely manner. The vibe and decor of the place was really cute and I’d love to come back next time I’m in town. Their brunch looks awesome. For the pictures it’s just the mushroom danish, smashed cucumbers and brisket sandwich.
Fantastic Brunch Spot – A Must We visited Sour Duck Market (Austin) based on a whim and a Googled review — it did not disappoint! From the moment we arrived on a busy Sunday morning, we were impressed by the efficiency of the service, the quality of the food, and the overall experience. The ordering process is seamless—scan a QR code at your table, browse the menu, place your order (individually or as a group), and pay via Apple Pay. You can run a tab or pay immediately, and you receive text updates on your order status. It’s a smooth, well-designed system that ensures you’re never left wondering about your food. Despite the bustling brunch crowd, our food arrived quickly, and every dish was absolutely delicious. We ordered: • Fried Chicken Hash – Crispy, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. • Breakfast Taco – Simple but packed with fresh ingredients. • Baked Chilaquiles – A standout dish with bold flavors. • Breakfast Sammy – A hearty and satisfying sandwich. • A Star is Born (x3) – A refreshing and well-balanced drink. • Chai Latte – Smooth and full of warm spices. The food was fresh, flavorful, and made with high-quality ingredients. The portions were just right, leaving us satisfied but not overly stuffed. As expected in Austin, parking can be a challenge, but with a little patience, you can usually find a street spot nearby. Overall, Sour Duck Market is a fantastic brunch spot with great food, fast service, and a hassle-free ordering system. We’ll definitely be back! Highly recommended.

Great spot to catch-up with friends over a drink and bite to eat. The menu has good breakfast, salad, and entrée options — but is a little limited. The indoor/outdoor space is nice and makes it a perfect spot no matter the weather. I recommend going during happy hour when the burger is $6 and beers are $3!
I’ll be back for more baked goods! But wish there was more in stock. And missing some of the past menu items… it’s a great backyard vibe and lots of kids. And although I’m partial to the TabbedOut ordering experience…the one they use is super clunky. Can we do a little better justice for such great food? Got the double cheeseburger, buckwheat cupcake, couple coffees, fries (with queso).
My family stopped by Sour Duck Market for dinner on Saturday night. Ordering food using the QR code was a breeze, and there was a nice menu and beer selection. Unfortunately, the food just wasn’t that great. Everything was over salted. For example, my wife and I are huge fans of French fries in general, but no matter how hard we tried to finish the fries, they were simply too salty. We’ll probably come back to try their baked goods or have a beer, but we’ll definitely skip dinner next time.
This was my 3rd to 4th time visiting Sour Duck, and unfortunately the most disappointing of the bunch. The oyster mushroom fettuccine sauce, while still seasoned well, was leaning pretty salty. The cook on the fettuccine itself was also noticeably under al dente. I also got the brisket special sandwich, and while the balance of flavors was prime, the final sear on the relatively thin slices of brisket made it a bit dry. The avocado purée helped amend that, but it didn’t solve it completely. Overall, this place has a lot of heart and attention into the conception of the dishes, but perhaps loses a little diligence in the execution.
The pastries were amazing! We had to get some to go for breakfast the next morning. I wasn’t too impressed with the food though. We had the cubano sandwich and the garlic cheese bread, good flavor but just felt like too much bread and not enough filling/toppings, particularly the cubano. The fries were really good though, if I’m ever in the area I’m definitely trying their burger.
They have pastries all the way to salads and burgers. Their coffee is very good and this coffee cake was delicious. The breakfast burrito was huge but with all the fench fries stuffed in there makes it taste not the best. Parking is a little tight but plenty of seating in the restaurant
food is perfect everytime. never misses! their happy hour is easily the best in austin. however, their front of the house staff are rude & even more so on saturdays. i don’t know why their staff hate pick up orders, but each time i pick one up they make me feel like i’m inconveniencing them by asking for the order i literally paid for. recently, one of the staff just sighed and rolled her eyes when i asked for my pick up order. dine in is great, though! i just would avoid pick up orders.
Pretty good..been a few times. The burger is yum..maybe little overpriced for what you get IMO. Staff wasn’t super friendly last time I went. Different day different experience.
Very cool place that really captures the Austin brunch scene. Love that you can bring your dog. Being able to walk in, find a table and order food through the app was such a convenience. Didn’t like the breakfast taco or the chicken/eggs dish. The jalapeños on that entree? Nearly ended me. And I eat jalapeños for fun but those ones had me going deaf for a bit they were so hot. Maybe a little regulation there. Also would be cool to have an option in the app to call the server if you actually do need them for small things like more ketchup or salsa. I would recommend ordering the burger, it was charred in all the right places and scrumptious. For dessert, the almond croissant.
Sour Duck Market has a great vibe with a fun outdoor patio and a relaxed Austin feel. The food is fresh and creative, especially the pastries and sandwiches—definitely worth trying. Service was friendly, though it did take a little longer than expected for our food to come out. Prices are on the higher side, but the quality makes up for it. Overall, a really good spot to hang out with friends and enjoy some unique bites!
My friend and I went for the happy hour special. The service was kind and speedy; we liked the shared ordering app. The smash burger and fries were both fine. The outdoor dining vibe was the highlight for me this time.
We stopped by Sour Duck Market on a Friday for lunch. I was disappointed that their brunch menu was available but their regular food and pastry option are still great. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich, marinated beets, Tx farm salad with fried chicken, and the fresh squeezed orange juice. For pastries we ordered the buckwheat financier and the star anise snickerdoodle. The fresh OJ was amazing and reminded me instantly of the fresh squeezed OJ I would make with my mom. It was a glass of nostalgia and a must have. The fried chicken sandwich was tasty but I did not agree with the sandwich accoutrements as they got a bit tiring after just half of the sandwich. The fries were amazing and had an extra Cajun/old bay style seasoning. The salad was extremely filling and full of a variety of ingredients like turnips and strawberries. Definitely a substantial salad. The accompanying fried chicken was also tender and fried with a satisfying chewy yet crispy batter. The marinated beets came with potato chips and a sour cream sauce. If you’ve been to Odd Duck this combination of chips is reminiscent of their ceviche and to me reminded me of a play on steak tartare with beets instead of steak. The beets were tasty but I found there was way too much sauce on the bottom. Towards the end I found myself trying to scrape the sauce off the beets due to how overpowering and almost sickening the sauce became. The pastries were both amazing. The buckwheat financier was the moistest pastry I’ve had in a long time. The flavor was subtly sweet and had a great buckwheat flavor which I personally liked. The star anise snickerdoodle was also tasty and an interesting combination that I personally enjoyed. Sour Duck market is a great place to try some interesting food while enjoying the outdoor energy that Austin is known for. I would recommend trying their pastries and a select number of the main entrees, and could see myself coming back for happy hour.
What a great neighborhood experience! Great to see this little gem open up. Great atmosphere with even better service. Sour Duck is on point with the service, one of the few places in Austin that really know how to treat their guests. The burger was top notch, made from Wagyu beef on a brioche bun and the most delectable beer cheese to complement. And bonus: very reasonably priced at $10! As I was watching them bring out tray after tray of baked goods from the baking kitchen to the front, I couldn’t resist grabbing one of the buttermilk biscuits with green onions. My favorite bite! Savory, and fantastic texture with just enough hint of cornmeal to provide a great flavor. We will be hitting this place again and again now that it’s finally open. UPDATE 06.03.2018 :: I have to change my rating on this as they have already raised their prices on the burger after the second week and no longer are making the biscuits. UPDATE 09.20.2024 :: Their pastries are still on point!
We went there for a Sunday brunch and it was so good! We ordered: 1. Smoked mushroom danish: it was so good 2. Breakfast taco: delicious!! It is also larger than I expected 3. Sunny duck egg: it was so good but it could’ve used another egg, greens & veggies ratio to eggs was a bit too much 4. Smoked red Chile goat memela: really good but it also could’ve used an extra egg We had some pastries to go: jam filled kouign amann, almond croissant, sausage kolaches (not sure of the exact name) but man it was so good and I ate it the next day since I was so full 🤤
Small group of us had sandwiches and burgers. The burgers were OK but nothing special and my friend said his sandwich was a bit odd tasting which may have been the escabeche. Didn't care much for the online ordering process where you scan a QR code and pay on your phone.
Great neighborhood bar, coffee shop, and restaurant tucked away in the trees. The cappuccino was good a little bitter and had some coffee grounds in the bottom at the end. Staff were friendly and welcoming and said hello even though you can grab a seat and order and pay your tab from your table. I think this is great and helps move service along when it’s gets busy. Parking is a little awkward. Will definitely be back with some friends for happy hour! Fair warning about the tiny parking lot, someone backed into me while I was in my car at only about 11 am and I got out to approach the car and they took off knowing they hit me. Other then that a great neighborhood spot, lots of seating and puppy friendly.
This was our first Sour Duck experience. Given the positive reviews we were remiss in waiting so long. However, our experience didn't quite match most of the reviews. First the food itself was mostly excellent and more on that later. Being of a more traditional mindset ( read Boomers) we did not prefer the the digital ordering process. We can do it but much prefer the personal touch. Particularly since the suggested tip for food table delivery is akin to that for full service. The process is impersonal and doesn't allow for questions--or human interaction until the food arrives. We understand many restaurants are using it to cover for labor shortages and to maximize profits. But for us that's an automatic star docker. Our initial server didn't seem pleased by our requests for extra condiments for the fries. This said, Phil's Paloma was just lovely, however for the price my Bloody Mary which arrived unadorned except for salt, no celery, okra Nada. For $13 not so great. I might add we felt as oldsters almost invisible to the younger staff. Phil had the cold cut sandwich which proved exquisite; great meat selection, awesome sauce superb bread. I ordered the cheeseburger without the bun which was delicious and full of grilled flavor. We spit a mushroom pastry which was also top notch but could have had a bit more of the artfully seasoned filling. The farm salad was also lovely with nice chunks of apple and the sweet touch of the granola topping. On the disappointment list were the fries which were nicely cooked but over salted. The chocolate torte we both found dry. For online ordering I think the food quality would be fabulous, but for a walk in sit down experience, nothing to really gush about.
Such a cute little spot for a brunch - especially on a day where the weather is great! The staff were amazing during today’s visit. No complaints there. Definitely a family friendly location. I tried their breakfast sandwich but I wasn’t too much of a fan because of the overpowering arugula flavor. Fries were good though! Would definitely be okay with coming back to try a different dish.
We ordered the mushroom sandwich and it was okay. The breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito were amazing and I would recommend to try it. The pastries were alright and drinks were tasty and strong. Overall, the place is a cool quiet place to hang out and snack, also you can bring your dog which is nice as well.
We recently visited Sour Duck Market on a Friday evening and had about a 30-minute wait to be seated, which felt reasonable given how busy it was. The ambiance was great—laid-back, lively, and very kid- and pet-friendly, which we appreciated. The food itself was tasty overall. The Wagyu burger was flavorful, though much smaller than I expected for the price. On the flip side, the focaccia melt was much larger than I pictured and very satisfying. We also tried the Jet Pilot frozen drink; it was definitely strong, with a heavy alcohol flavor that was a bit too much for our taste. One thing to note is the dining experience is extremely hands-off. The hostess takes your name and seats you, and from there everything is done through a QR code—ordering, paying, and leaving. There’s no explanation of menu items, no refills offered, and no check-ins from staff once your food is delivered. If you prefer a no-interaction dining experience where you can just eat and go, this is definitely the place for you. Overall, good food and a nice atmosphere—just know what to expect going in.
It's unique in that it looks and acts more like a BBQ place, but it serves a lot of bakery items. The pastries were good and the beer is cheap, but the dust and general 'cleanliness' will bother some people (lots of cobwebs on the TVs). Check out their happy hours. Ordering is primarily done via phone.
Good, not great. The burger was solid, but the pickles and sauce didn’t quite hit. Cookie was good, fries missed since the seasoning wasn’t for me, even though they were crispy. That said, the venue and vibes were great, with a super chill and fun atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out and giving it a try!

Decent food, coffee and atmosphere. The taco seemed to contain French fries for potatoes. Expect to pay typical Austin restaurant prices. Definitely want to try the Happy Hour menu.

The food were ok for me. There weren't any dishes that was over the top tasty for me. The spiced fries were pretty much taste like normal fries and the ketchup could use changes even if its vegan. Most of the proteins were on the edge of overly salty, but I guess I have a low tolerance for salt.
Super kid friendly spot which is great unless you don't want to sit at a bar next to a room full of screaming children. Got the wagyu smash burger and fries. How it was dry is beyond me. It felt like it sat in the window for a bit also. The fries were overly starchy too. Oh well. The staff was nice though.
Food was pretty okay - we ordered the smash burger, the quiche, and this other masa dish. The masa dish had little to no taste, the burger was fine, the quiche was probably the best dish. The chocolate chip cookie was very good. Service was on the slow side but vibes and atmosphere was good. Would come back for pastries and coffee but probably not for brunch/lunch.
I was excited to try this place because I had seen about their happy hour special in a food influencers video, which is a burger special. We got a double cheeseburger and beer special ($13), a single cheeseburger and beer special ($10), a “soft pretzel and cheese” ($7.50), hand punched fries ($4), and a garlic bread also. The cheeseburger (and beer) special is a daily happy hour special from 3-6 pm. A single is $6 and a double $9, you can add a lager for $4 more. We started with the fries and house made ketchup, as well as the “soft pretzel and queso”. What’s so ironic about the name “soft pretzel” is that was literally the hardest pretzel I’ve had in my life, I could barely rip it apart and chewing it was a jaw workout. The fries were good and the house made ketchup had a different kind of zesty taste, was very good. Next we got a cheesy garlic hasselback baguette, it was very hot (not a complaint) but was also extremely hard; we didn’t eat much of it, flavor was good but just too hard. I know baguettes are a harder bread but this was very hard. Now to the main item we went for, the cheeseburgers. According to the menu this is what it consists of: **two wagyu smash burger patties, american & pimento cheese, pickle, secret sauce, challah bun.** The burger was okay, definitely a good deal especially for a smash burger in Austin. I will say the taste was not really there though, the burger was completely carried by the cheese and sauce. I could barely taste the meat, 5/10 on the cheeseburger. My gf got a single cheeseburger and said “that’s a burger you need to be a double because as a single the proportion of bread and sauce was off, so needs two patties”. With all of that being said I will probably be back because I liked the outside environment and seems like they have good deals. They have a lengthier food menu with some items that caught my eye. Came on Friday around 5ish, was very busy. A significant amount of people had children and a couple dogs; so I assume it’s kid and dog friendly.
I wanted to love it. $4 drip coffee should not be lukewarm. Actually $4 drip coffee perhaps shouldn't exist. Are the employees getting $40 an hour? Of course not, so I am mystified why it is so expensive. Bread is good. I don't live nearby so can't try again.
Lunch on a Friday, was about 50% full of patrons and a beautiful day. Seated myself as instructed by a placard and proceeded to scan the QR code at my table after shooing away birds that were trying their best to find scraps on the empty tables. My drink came first and the waitress was pleasant enough. That’s when I noticed the non stop reflections of light bouncing everywhere from mirrors blowing in the wind. Clearly an attempt, along with the random fake owl, to keep the birds at bay. My food came shortly after and my burger and fries were delicious as many have stated. Although I wish the fries were crispy. When those were dropped off by a different waiter that was the last time I interacted with anyone my entire meal. No one checked in on me to see if I wanted anything else or if I was happy with my meal. I definitely could have used more ketchup and I was curious if I could get a refill on my tea. But clearly the few waiters were too busy attending to delivering food to others to stop by or even come near or make eye contact to give me a chance to say anything. I could have waived my arms or chased one down but didn’t want to interrupt them as they ran about. I got up when done, cleared my own plate (was I supposed to?) and proceeded to pay on my phone (which is also required). All i’d like is a little more human contact considering the reputation of the establishment and $28 I paid for a burger, fries and tea. Especially when the restaurant wasn’t all that busy. 3.5 stars.
We arrived on a Saturday morning at noon and only the brunch menu was available. I chose the smoked brisket chilaquile. I have to say I was disappointed. There were only a half a dozen pieces of brisket over a layer of tortillas chips. The first small piece of brisket was delicious, perfectly served cooked, but the others were dry and tasteless. Brisket in Austin should be amazing. Service was fast and polite. Atmosphere was typical tx roadhouse. Prices seemed high.
Stopped by for lunch with a friend and ate in the second building (the one with a bar). Place was pretty slow so we got our food pretty quick which is great! Ordering and payment is done using a qr code/ your phone which is convenient, no talking to staff unless ordering a drink form the bar. I got the wagyu burger, fries and the pretzel to share with my friend. The burger was decent but not great for $15 (just the burger) the fries were amazing however, I could live without the pretzel it was kind of stale. We did end up grabbing coffee in the other building next door and it was excellent. Could definitely see myself swinging by to grab another cup but not to eat.
I really wanted to like this place, their baked goods look stunning and the vibes are great. I went for brunch to scope it out for a date and ordered 3 dishes and a coffee to give it a fair chance. Again, everything came out looking spectacular. But to me, it didn't taste like much. Everything was bland. I got the breakfast sammy, the mushroom danish and the pretzel with queso. All three were disappointing. Will probably not be returning, although I do want to try their cocktails.
Don't go here for the food. Maybe the atmosphere. But the burger was the worst burger I've ever had. I can make a way better tasting burger for less than half the price. Barley any sauce. The chicken sandwich was mostly breading and cumin. Very crispy and a little bit of chicken. It was borderline burnt. For how expensive the food was, I'd go elsewhere.
I frequent Sour Duck and I have tried nearly the entire menu. The daily soup is my comfort meal. However, the other day, I ordered the Spicy potato soup and it was my first disappointing experience at Sour Duck. It was entirely too salty and tasted as if it was just a bowl of pure queso. I found it extremely difficult to eat. It also seemed that there were clumps from being sat out for too long. I couldn’t eat more than a couple bites. I found it difficult to communicate to the servers about this issue. Overall, just not a pleasant experience and I won’t be back for a while
Went during a happy hour, ordered a double with queso, a lemonade, a dreamscicle and a non-happy hour pretzel. I was happy with the food and ordered everything on my phone, which felt really convenient - but when I checked my credit card the next day, I noticed the amount the business was charging me ($34) was more than what I expected. I tried to see if I could pull my receipt the next day and that wasn't an option, I also tried to call and the phone would get picked up and then placed on the side (I could hear the restaurant, but no one answered). I did not leave a tip and I also closed out my tab (tip is prompted right before that happens). I did see that their website says they charge 20% on unclosed tabs, but I don't think that applies here, even assuming a 20% tip, the math doesn't tie The whole experience feels weird.
I used to love their half chicken. They smoke it and add a vegetable component and even though it's pricey at almost $30 it's hefty and delicious. \n\nI recently went for my birthday and they started…

Fried chicken sandwich turned out to be thigh meat and about 1/3 of it was fat / cartilage nastiness that couldn't be eaten. In my opinion you don't give a customer anything on the sandwich…
The table was wet and dirty and nobody cleaned. The people who served the food did nit greet us, nor seemed to care about the dirt on the table, and walked away so fast that we could not ask. For worse, the minimum tip they have us 18%. Tip for what?
The menu changes are not it - they changed the seasoning or recipe on the fried chicken sandwich and it was not a hit. Too spicy and not enough flavor in the right places, overall a miss. Not sure if I'd recommend bringing friends here. Also, the fact that they serve such a tiny side of sauce for the amount of fries served is a little, if not totally bonkers. I always feel like I'm inconveniencing someone when I ask for an extra serving of sauce - which by the way the only thing that hit this evening was that sauce, everything else was pretty mediocre.
I was excited to try this place and was underwhelmed by the food. We ordered the chicken, salad, and brisket sandwich. The brisket was dry and the chicken was below par. I was going to leave it but both of us have a upset stomach after eating there.
