Opinions de To Eat Sushi Avenue A
My favorite Sushi place in the lower east side. I love it, the flavor is amazing, other the Shrimp tempura you will thank me later, New York roll my favorite
The king salmon hand roll was so good! All the Maki rolls were great I tried a sweet potato roll for the first time and I would get it again! & the price is right (not overpriced)
My go-to takeout spot for sushi. They always make the order pretty fast, I've never waited longer than 15 minutes for my takeout, even on a Saturday. The fish is incredibly fresh and everything I've eaten has been well seasoned. Definitely try the salmon belly, yellowtail belly, and toro rolls!
Not a single miss. I did the Miso soup, Shishito, Tuna, Salmon and Hamachi sushi (separately), followed by the fried ice cream. Unbelievable!! And fast too. Cherry on top is getting to watch the chefs at work. I’ll be back every time I’m in NYC!!
I love sushi and this is the best I ever had. It was super fresh. The appetizers were delicious. The people that work there are super nice. I can’t wait to go back.
A true EV institution. I have been a regular at Takahachi for over 10 years and have only had excellent food and service each time I go. The fish is fresh, the staff is friendly and professional and the atmosphere is that of a true local joint. Absolutely love it and can’t wait until the next time I go!
I don’t think I’ve had such beautiful take out *ever* before. Photo of the skateboarder roll and the lobster roll. I enjoyed them both but probably the lobster roll the best - I just really love the presentation. I was so pleasantly surprised when I opened my to-go box! Well done, very well done ❤️ I stumbled upon this restaurant looking for a different sushi place and since it was almost packed, decided there must be something good going on inside. I had a tough time deciding which of their special rolls to get - both of these are part of the regular menu. I will DEFINITELY return for sushi (and had a little sake too) the atmosphere was great, good food, full of neighborhood friends and solo diners. All around a great sushi experience 🍣 ❤️
Been coming here since day one. My parents used to bring me here every Sunday as a kid. Best Japanese joint in LES. After moving abroad for 15 years, this was my first stop upon returning to NYC. The chef curated a beautiful platter of nigiri for us. Been dreaming about the fried green tea ice-cream for the last decade, and the chef made it specially for me despite it no longer being on the menu. Even better than I remember. Big love.
This was my first time eating sushi, and my sister recommended this place. The atmosphere is minimalistic with dining areas to accommodate both small and large groups. We picked a variety platter, and I found some that I have deemed my favorite, like the eel roll. The cost was affordable as I was able to order food to bring home.
Excellent tofu salad that was very refreshing. The black cod was delicious with a great crisp to it. But the star of the night was the crispy shrimp in a spicy mayo sauce. It was the perfect amount of sauce not to overwhelm the shrimp. I topped it off with a nice big bottle of Sapporo. Highly recommend the shrimp.
This is one of my five favorite sushi places in Manhattan. It has been since 1999, and I've been to a lot of them. It's small and it's not fancy and you won't be "pampered" but the sushi and other foods have always been top notch, the service is always friendly and fun, I have never had a bad experience, and I've probably been here over 30 times. It's busy, there is usually a wait.
Solid sushi and Japanese dishes at reasonable prices. This place has been around for decades. You can tell that special bonds have been formed between the staff and the locals. This is truly one of those places that make the trip to Alphabet City worth it. I've visited twice now during spring and am very impressed with the leveling up of the special sushi rolls and appetizers. The winter roll, the tuna jalapeno roll, the 007roll and the loco roll are outstanding. So is the seafood gyoza made with whitefish. And finally, if you and your party have room try the green tea ice cream with the fried banana desserts. Outstanding.
Awesome Sushi! I personally like it better than nakazawa, sit at the counter and let Chef Jack do his thing. They've had some of the best toro I've ever tasted. Chef jack uses generous pieces of fish and combines modern flavors on sushi. Cilantro roll is a must have if you don't hate cilantro. Have been going for years!
Great sushi, very innovative rolls that taste amazing. However the portions are a bit small even for the "big" rolls and the lights constantly go bright and dark making for a strange atmosphere
A coworker of mine recommended this place and I’m very sensitive to sushi since getting food poisoning at another restaurant about a year ago. The food here tasted fresh, I sat at the bar and saw where they made the sushi. I had the sushi for two and it was a lot of food plus some lovely miso soup. The green tea tempura ice cream was spectacular. I think the tables, counters, and glasses could have been a bit cleaner, but that just might be my hypersensitive reaction to sushi
Few Japanese restaurants have an authentic Japanese feel to me these days, but Takahachi had me feeling like I had just teleported into a lowkey family run sushi place in Kyoto. 7/5 for the ambiance. I have yet to find Sushi in East village that blows me away, so I was excited to try this place based off the ambiance alone. I STAN a good seaweed salad, but this one really missed. It was 4 different types of seaweed and you pour the dressing on yourself, idk it just really didn't do it for me. I hadn't been that let down since John Frusciante left the Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2007. However, the sushi plate for 2 truly restored my hope for Takahachi. At $59, it was a great portion size and the fish was fresh. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the fish. The only miss on the plate was the shrimp nigiri, but I don't understand how people actually like shrimp nigiri. I just firmly believe it doesn't belong with pieces of QUALITY nigiri. Anyways, I WILL be back. My new goto sushi spot in EV.
Was on the way to meet up with a few friends down the street and had some time to kill before they would arrive, as well as a need to get some food to combat the drinking I'd be doing later on in the night. Takahachi caught my eye from its unique recessed entrance reminiscent of the mouth of a cave, with large glass window panes. The view from inside - while facing a brick wall across the street - is still quite open. The service was prompt and timely taking freshly finished plates as new dishes arrived. I ordered their Age Shishito, their Tatsuta Kawari Age and their "Amazing Sushi" special. The shishitos were quality, with only one pepper being a bit too small for my liking. That's not to say that small fry wasn't full of flavor, I just wanted more! The Tatsuta Kawari Age was the loser of the visit. The description reads "Ginger flavor fried chicken" which sounds amazing - but that's about all it does well. On first bite, you'll be looking for that ginger taste - you'll also be doing that through the rest of the bites as it won't be found here. The frying was bland, as if they opted to go with a tempura batter and zero seasoning for the chicken. I had to squeeze the lemon provided as well as dunk other pieces into soy sauce to add a bit of anything to these chunks. The "Amazing Sushi" special was pretty good! The award ceremony would go 1st place to the Tuna with cilantro sauce, 2nd place to the Yellowtail belly with jalapeno sauce and third to the Salmon belly with avocado and "spicy" mayo. My reasoning is personal, and you will probably have your own rating for these three pieces. I personally don't enjoy an imbalance of creamy that over powers any spice in a dish and unfortunately that's what I got with that Salmon. Price wasn't bad for the experience and I would probably come back here for a quick bite on the way back from the bars.
