Opinions de Soda Club Avenue B
I am going to attempt to relate what a delightful, even joyous experience. It was eating at soda club last night. I think I could be classified a carnivore, in that I don’t remember going to a vegan only restaurant. But when I was doing my research for new places to dine here last week, I was so intrigued by the menu, I somehow missed the fact that it was vegan only. Honestly, I don’t think I would have chosen it. Now… I’m considering going vegan. But I’m not sure there’s another place like this. It didn’t start off good. We had gotten up at 3 AM in Austin To catch the flight and were beat And ready to eat dinner early. After a cold walk/ long cab drive from where we staying near the park. we found ourselves at an innocuous corner a bit early a few minutes before it opened at 5:00. It is difficult to see before they open the door, but at five, a young man walked up and rolled up a graffiti covered garage door to reveal the inviting entrance. We walked across the street to the friendly Niagara bar for a drink before ( recommended- great Village vibe ) Still unsure as to what we would find, we walked in to a wonderful cozy spot. We started off with a delightful French cab , exquisite. By the time we had the focaccia, we knew we were in a kind of a magical space. We’ve had focaccia bread all over the world from California to Italy. This was undoubtedly the best. Dipped in a fresh garlic sauce that I can only describe as divinely inspired. I had the carbonara which had an incredible smokey flavor with mushrooms and artichokes tempura . Uniquely delicious. My wife loved the Butternut Squash Medaglioni, and I was lucky enough to get a few bites. Never had anything like this. The intimate dark setting is small but very well designed, and clean. Our server Owen was gracious and very helpful with selections. After dinner, Katy stopped by our table and we went on even more than this review about how much we enjoyed the experience. She obviously really cared about our experience, as was evident by every detail of this restaurant. I’ve never read the review this long. Bordering on a short story. But I was inspired … I think you will be too.
Here’s the thing… I find nothing more appealing than when a restaurant has high principles and strong technique but does not show them off in flashy and attention grabbing ways. We walked into Soda Club off the street, drawn in by perfect lighting, cozy decor and that feeling that these folks knew exactly what they were on about. Service was 💯 on point and friendly. The herbed ricotta was creamy, decadent with jammy confit cherry tomatoes. The watercress salad sang with perfectly complimentary silky feta and sweet roasted grapes. The light, crisp Roman style carbonara pizza was perfectly balanced with gently fried artichokes, smoked mushrooms and bright, lemony arugula. We finished with gigli pasta showcasing white truffles, crispy leeks and a velvety cream sauce. Overall, a spectacular, thoughtfully prepared, soul satisfying feast. Now… here is the twist, half way through the meal, we asked about the spice level of the chorizo on another pizza. The server said, the -tofu- chorizo… wait… what? Tofu chorizo… is this place vegetarian?? !Vegan! We were shocked and delighted. And this brings me back to my opening gambit. This was the best vegan dining experience we had ever had (and we have enjoyed many) and there was not a hint of the virtue signaling that drags down most of the field. —Nothing— about the experience was sacrificed to promote ideals or a lifestyle imperative. There was clearly some masterful chemistry happening in the kitchen but no floating spheres or insubstantial foams. The meal was decadent yet sat lightly with us. Not a sliver of texture or flavor was compromised in the pursuit of healthy living. This was a delightful dining experience, executed with style, finesse and attention to every detail, and, oh, by the way, the food was vegan. Also noteworthy is the substantial, well curated natural wine list from which a glass of the Georgian Sapervani was a perfect compliment to our meal. Hats off to everyone involved. We could not be more impressed.
Went on a Saturday and it was really nice! The food was great and the customer service was spectacular. I felt really welcomed as I asked about many menu items and they happily explained the dishes. I got the Medaglioni with the butternut squash and it was so delicious. The sweet wine was one of the best I’ve ever had. Will definitely be back to visit.
came here for my last dinner on my nyc trip and was very impressed. we dined on a monday and the restaurant was still quite busy and had a great ambience. the wine list is extensive and their chilled red is honestly one of the best that i have tried. we ordered arancini, the grape salad, tagliatelle, and radiatori. all were incredible, i especially loved the radiatori. the pasta tasted very fresh and the service was attentive. we also tried the date cake for dessert which was delicious. i wish we had somewhere like this in australia but i will definitely be returning on my next nyc trip.
Great food! We had the Arugula and radicchio salad, which paired perfectly with the Calabrian pinsa. We also tried the Medaglioni pasta with the butternut squash. We paired the food with the chilled red Trollinger. Yummy!! For dessert we chose the date cake - I loved the contrast between the sweetness of the cake and the saltiness of the ice cream. The atmosphere was very cosy with the dim lights - staff was kind and efficient. I would definitely go back!
Had dinner here last night and it was incredible! I had 0 clue it was a vegan restaurant and my friend refused to tell me until the end! Place is very cute and the bar is gorgeous! Incredible wine selection. Madison was our server and she was the best! She walked us through her favs and recommended the perfect plates for us! The ravioli might have been 1 of my top 5 pastas I've ever had! Do not skip out on the tiramisu ! The entire staff was lovely but again Madison was the star of the show! Really friendly and made us feel very comfortable ! Awesome atmosphere and the food is 11/10!
This place is amazing. For starters, my server Madi and the bartender Manu were great company. Manu played great music, made delicious drinks, and was a fun conversationalist. Madi showed me a bunch of great wines from across the world with super detailed flavor profiles, truly a fun wine-tasting experience. From Italy, to Slovenia, I tasted notes of strawberries, chocolate, raspberry and more. She also made impeccable food suggestions and I was blown away by the focaccia, ravioli and arracinhi. We topped it off with a tiramisu. Focaccia- crispy on the outside, soft, warm and buttery on the inside. The garlic and chili pepper paste to dip was a nice contrast to the usual olive oil at most spots. Arracinhi- also very crispy. The star of the show here was the tomato sauce. Sweet and savory. Just straight up some great tomatoes. Ravioli- Wow. Just WOW. A very happy marriage between lemon and creaminess. You would never guess it’s vegan. While it only came with 3 pieces, it was pretty filling. It also had these juicy mushrooms and sweet grape tomatoes that really added to the deliciousness. Tiramisu- Delicious. Not too sweet, surprisingly a bit chocolatey. Great way to end the meal. I don’t eat a lot of vegan food but after this meal I’d like to add some vegan spots to my rotation. Even my boyfriend, who said he didn’t want to eat vegan food, will most definitely be coming back. I would be more than happy to try the rest of the food, cocktails, and wines at this spot. Soda Club is my newest obsession and go-to elevated date spot. The vibe is homey, romantic, and intimate, while also being funky and innovative with their menu.
Food is scrumptious, high quality, and FRESH!! I tried the raviolis, pizza, the focaccia which was delectableeeee. Don’t even get me started on this damn tiramisu. The best tiramisu i’ve ever had in my life… seriously i’ve been having vivid dreams of my soda club tiramisu experience. Express martini was 10/10, ambiance made for a perfect date night with my hubby. We loved it ! A bit pricey but it truly makes sense.
Absolutely one of the best pizza places in the area! the Roman style pizza is very authentic. It was my first time eating it. The crust was perfect. the pasta is outstanding ( i would like a less al dente option and a regular red sauce option) and the fig cake dessert was great. I wanted to sit inside but the fans blow from behind the bar and there is a faint smell of old alcohol that occasionally hits you. I hope they fix this. Also, the bench in the corner by the door moves when you sit back on the cushions for your back. again, another small detail that they hopefully will fix. as far as the food, FANTASTIC! Wine list is also great!
Cute pasta bar that serves tasty handmade pasta and a few other sides. They also have a good selection of wine by the glass and original craft cocktail. From what I’ve seen there are no meat dishes on the menu and many (most?) entrees are vegan, but as a non-vegan person I didn’t notice it and couldn’t tell.
I received a gift card for Christmas to Soda Club and finally got around to using it at the end of June. I hadn’t heard of this place, but I’m so glad I went! Truly, the other reviews are spot on - this place is a diamond in the rough when it comes to treating yourself to a nice vegan meal. I was celebrating an anniversary on the night of the meal and the entire staff could not have been more kind and attentive. The staff went above and beyond to make the evening feel special, which is a rare find nowadays. The service was just…well, outstanding. The vegan ricotta appetizer with bread and fresh tomatoes was my favorite of the couple we tried. As for the pasta, for me I really enjoyed the ravioli. The pasta is freshly made and you can definitely tell. I would definitely go back and would recommend anyone wanting a good meal with great service to enjoy their evening at Soda Club!
A perfect vegan Italian meal! I’ve dined at Soda Club on a few occasions and it seems to just get better and better. Their pizzas have a variety of toppings making it a delicious, unique experience and their pastas are very good as well. The gigli is popular but the bigoli is much better in my opinion. It has a resemblance of fettuccine Alfredo with the thick noodles and creamy, indulgent sauce. Now for the pizza - I really enjoyed the carbonara pizza (without the apples). The base is a white sauce and the fried artichokes were a pleasant surprise. Overall would definitely order again. They also had a pesto pizza a few weeks ago that was actual perfection - hope they bring it back in the future. And if there is anything that you do, you MUST order the date dessert. It consists of a warm date cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on a bed of crumbs/crust. Trust me you need it. The staff is always friendly and outgoing. The small details like acknowledging return guests really mean a lot. Will be returning very soon!
I visited Soda Club with my mom during our trip to New York, and we absolutely loved it. The whole experience was amazing from start to finish. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish — the perfect spot to relax, enjoy a great meal, and have meaningful conversations. The food is 100% vegan and absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was flavorful, fresh, and beautifully presented. You can tell a lot of care and creativity goes into the menu. A special shout-out to Manuel, our host, who was incredibly kind and patient. He gave us the best recommendations and made us feel so welcomed and comfortable throughout our time there. We had such a lovely evening — great food, great service, and a beautiful moment to share. Soda Club is definitely a place we’ll remember and would come back <3
Soda Club has been on our list for a while but it took us a surprising long time to finally make it. Glad we did, and we will be going back again for sure. We tried the - Arancini with tomato sauce (loved it!) - Gigli with truffle cream & crispy leeks - Tagliatelle with lemon nori butter & broccoli rabe - Calabrian pizza with figs, pistachio & onion jam (a must) - House-made tiramisu Everything was super fresh, light, and full of delicate, subtle flavors. The ambience was just perfect as well! Highly recommend!
Loved being able to go a fully vegan restaurant! My friend and I got two pastas as well as the pizza and all was so well made. The pizza crust was the mainly highlight it was so well made and perfectly crisp and chewy. Also absolutely loved the date cake The service started really great then at some point in the evening it all changed and took a while to get the servers to the table to move through the dinner. Could be that they just recently opened the location.
I had so much expectation about this restaurant because I love pasta, I ordered the GIGLI pasta, it doesn’t look like the pictures at all (in the pics it looks like it have shaved truffle), mine doesn’t come with any… the pasta was ok 🥲 I wasn’t expecting that, but the arancini OMG delicious!!!, so good!!, next time I want to order just that! ❤️ My sister ordered the BIGOLI (cacio e pepe), it lacked of flavor too, I asked if they have any garlicky pasta, but they don’t, it was very disappointing, because the garlic it’s an protagonists in most Italian dishes, at least I thought they could have one pasta with some garlic 🥲 Love the decoration and the place in general!
I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed. We had heard a lot of hype about Soda Club, and we were particularly inspired to go after being hugely impressed by their sister restaurant Third Kingdom. When it comes to Italian food, I feel like a restaurant has to come through either with big comforting portions (e.g. John’s of 12th Street), or some kind of innovation (e.g. Coletta). Soda Club didn’t really do either. We started with the focaccia and herbed ricotta appetizer, which was good but not memorable. A few skinny slices of toasted focaccia. In terms of pasta, I had my heart set on something with red sauce, so I was shocked to hear that only one pasta dish on the entire menu had tomato sauce! We got this one dish, the bucatini, which was good enough but underportioned. The other pasta dishes all sounded really rich and creamy or had too many fried components, so despite having come to Soda Club (a self-proclaimed pasta bar) expressly for pasta, we ended up getting a pizza as our other entree. We asked which of the three pizzas had tomato sauce, and we were informed that one of them did - the current special - so that’s the one we ordered. It came with vegan chorizo, mushrooms, and microgreens. It notably did not have tomato sauce. It was a weird but pretty tasty dish, and thank goodness it filled us up after the scanty little plate of pasta that was gone in four bites. Lastly, the service was pretty disappointing. We had to sit outside because they were so crowded even on a Thursday night. This would have been fine if they had checked on us a little more frequently; the hostess actually ended up being the one to check on us/refill our water/bring us the check etc. m All in all, we were underwhelmed and can only assume their popularity is largely due to their cute atmosphere and extensive wine/cocktail selection.
