Opinions de Banh Mi Zon New York
The curry beef bahn mi is the best sandwich I have had in my life. I love it and think about it literally every day. I typically hate red meat and don’t eat it but something about this sandwich makes me forget all about that. I guarantee you will love it, I have been countless times and there has never been a variation in the quality. The carrots are so good. I sometimes get a side of the peanut sauce to dip the sandwich in and it’s delicious. This is my #1 most recommended restaurant and where I take every visiting friend for lunch (often more than once!).
The food is good but its a small spot so be mindful its not a sit down to eat type of place. The staff was really friendly and the wait for our order wasn't long so its easy to be in and out.Still I recommend ordering ahead for pick up since it can easily get crowded if busy.I always get the pork sausage summer rolls and the zon for me and my wife. The catfish is also amazing too
Banh mi was perfectly toasted and pate was delicious. Papaya salad was also good, nuoc mam sweet.
I stopped by pretty randomly because I was walking by and was so hungry after a day of viewing different apartments. I had their classic Zon Bahn mi and it was SO GOOD. I used to live in Houston, land of the Bahn mi, and this was on par. Thinking about going back for another one this week… that’s how good it was.
I have been searching NYC for the perfect Bahn Mi, and I have to search no longer. This is it. This is the best. The bread, the veggies, the meat, all amazing quality and so tasty and in the right proportion 😍 The problem with the rest of the Bahn Mi in the city is laziness and Americanization. I don’t want a giant greasy meat sandwich! I want exactly what I got here, you have to go for yourself. Also, the service at this place is incredible. They went above and beyond by letting us try ingredients before we ordered to make sure we would like our meal. They brought our food out to us, as we were sitting outside. I would go multiple times a week if I lived closer 😩
We found this place last year and I wish Banh Mi Zon is near my house so I can order it everyday. It’s better banh mi than what I had in Vietnam. I especially love sardine banh mi with tomato and egg. You don’t get to see this kinda of banh mi anywhere and it’s not fishy at all! There shrimp summer roll is refreshing and delicious. The only thing I wish they have is wet napkin or somewhere you can wash your hand since banh mi is not the cleanest sandwich with all the vegetable, meat and sauce.
Guys the coconut curry beef sandwich is out of this world. Might be a little spicy if you’re sensitive to that but it’s a huge, crispy, delicious sandwich and I can’t say enough about it. Other than that I’ve had the chicken banh mi which is also good. It’s a small spot so kinda for takeout but it’s really terrific.
When you ride the MTA 🚇 as often as we do, you look at subways stops as points of conquest. You pillage the surrounding area, visiting every potential eatery within a bà nội (grandmother 👵) walkable distance. Once you fully charge your battery pack and slip on your Adidas Ultraboost, the land of the unknown is there waiting for you. Bánh mì Zòn is one of those places located in the middle of the East Village that will take you 20 IG stories to get to. We arrive after the sun has set, choosing the window seats with dedicated lights spread evenly above. No.1 Zòn (aka crispy) comes out neatly tucked inside wax paper waiting to be unwrapped. A generous spread of pâtè creates a barrier between the top of the baguette and the rest of its peers, providing the beloved crunch. Attention to detail is key: not too many veggies, not too little meats, just the right amount to have the full experience in every bite. 🥖
Banh Mi Zon is the best banh mi sandwich shop in Manhattan. Quality has always been maintained at this spot. Highly recommend the shrimp summer roll and cat fish banh mi, ingredients are fresh and well balanced with these composed Vietnamese classics. An absolute hole in the wall, but a must try.
The banh mi craving hit me one night after having some drinks nearby. Banh Mi Zon happened to be on my bookmarks list and was still open. It was a little out of the way but we decided to make our way there anyway. I ordered the Zon Sandwich (Pate, Vietnamese Ham, Vietnamese Salami, Shredded Pork Jerky) which is pretty much the classic Viet sammie. It’s definitely not the best banh mi I’ve ever had and more expensive than I would generally care to pay for one of these, but it did the trick. The bread was perfectly toasty, which to me is one of the most, if not THE most important part of a banh mi. Plus, even though they were almost closing, the ingredients were not compromised. They didn’t skimp on anything, and nothing tasted like it was sitting out all day. I definitely wouldn’t come out of my way to come here again but I am grateful that Banh Mi Zon was able to satisfy that craving.
wish I could rate it 4.5 stars-it was pretty good! not even sure why I’m marking it down, I just don’t feel like it’s quite 5 stars because it’s nothing out of this world, but maybe it’s a bias because of the sandwich I ordered? the catfish was cooked nicely, everything else was pretty standard, and the hot sauce on the side (ordered separately) was so yummy. definitely needed it on the sandwich otherwise would’ve been pretty bland
We just got Banh Mi's catered from Banh Mi Zon for our weekly office lunch. Shoutout to our office manager for getting Banh Mi's for lunch. That's so gangster. I love Chris Voss's book "Never Split the Difference," which details how to negotiate well and get what you want in life. I negotiated my way to half a beef sandwich and half a Zon sandwich (house special), as I wanted to try both. Would I have been able to do this without using tactically empathy that Chris Voss preaches? I guess we'll never know... The beef was decent, but nothing to write home about. The Zon on the other hand, was the one. It was made up of pate, Vietnamese ham & salami, and shredded pork jerky wrapped in a crispy baguette. 8.5/10 for me. We were all seated around the rectangular table discussing life, liberty, and quotas over our Banh Mi's. A beautiful sight really. I must note that many other reviews say they charge different prices than their menu states, and that's just a great way to piss off the consumer. Just change the menu prices... I didn't experience this first hand though, so it's not affecting my rating. My favorite Banh Mi in the city still comes from Saigon Vietnamese Sandwich Deli in the Lower East side. $10 for a BOMB Banh Mi that was better than any Banh Mi I had in my time in Vietnam... Oh you haven't been to Vietnam!?!?!? Couldn't be me... IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov_reviews
The purpose of this review is not to hate or harm this restaurant in any way, shape, or form. That being said, I hope you take this review as an informative review. Atmosphere: Tiny restaurant. Seems like they have changed indoor dining experience compared to some years ago. The entrance was a bit disorganized. I'm not sure if this was just a season thing where they only offer indoor dining when it's summer. Other than that, it had a neutral atmosphere. Service: They were welcoming and attentive. They had my order ready by the time they said it was going to be ready. Food: I ordered the Catfish bowl. The food was well portioned, and the flavors from each ingredient complemented each other. I also ordered the Lychee smoothie. Although it was not the right weather to drink it, it still tasted really good. I believe it will taste twice as good in summer. Price: Honestly, their prices are fair. The quality and flavors of the food compensate their prices.
They also were closed all morning and didn't open until 2pm. When I arrived in the afternoon, I hyad to wait awhile for my two sandwiches to be made - seemed like they were prioritizing take-outs rather than in-person customer. Tried sandwiches based on the positive reviews but the filling was little expected more for the price. It was fine but I wouldn't go back again. I did appreciate they had vegan options at least.
I ordered the vegan lemongrass tofu sandwich with gluten free bread- I think my mistake was ordering the gluten free bread. The sandwich came out to be $20... I mean I guess... NYC right? Overall it was very meh and I would not come here again.
I ordered the sandwich without spice, but it's too spicy and has very little meat.
Got a zon Bahn mi. they forgot the pate jalapeño and sirracha I ordered. I called back. They said. next time they try and do better.
