Opinions de Pylos Restaurant New York
My partner and I enjoyed a delicious meal at Pylos last night. Service was also great!
Amazing, probably the best Greek food I’ve had. I would happily eat the meatballs and the mousse every day. Very reasonable price too - 2 appetizers, 2 entrees, 2 desserts for $100. Not bad at all!
We had a lovely and delicious dining experience. Our waiter was impressive, the food was delicious. Highly recommend! Come hungry … portions are large.
Greek Cuisine That Will Steal Your Heart ❤️ Stepping into this Greek establishment in NYC wasn't just a meal; it was an absolute revelation... hands down, one of the best Mediterranean dining experiences I've ever had in the city. Every element, from the first bite to the moment I left, was pure gold. The baked feta wrapped in crisp black sesame and served with a side of sweet marmalade was stunningly complex and a perfect balance of salty, savory, and sweet that you’ll dream about later. The dolmades (or tolma) in their bright, rich lemon sauce are a must-try. They left me desperately in love with them 😁 and instantly planning my next visit. Even the simple things shine, like the old Greek salad, served in a truly huge portion, it’s refreshing, authentic, and amazing. Beyond the fantastic plates, the experience is enhanced by the generous spirit of the house. The wine pours are legendary and truly, a "glass" is more than a glass in volume! Most importantly, the service is excellent. Host Tamara is fabulous, greeting guests with warmth, and the entire staff makes you feel like family. If you’re looking for fantastic food, generous drinks, and impeccable hospitality, go go go. I will absolutely be back soon!
We decided to try Greek food for the first time for our dinner date and stumbled upon this restaurant - and it turned out to be the best decision we could have made. When you walk in, you’re greeted by the host with a warm smile and seated immediately. Our first impression was that the place looked phenomenal - the clay décor on the ceiling, the wine bottles, and the vibrant colors all contributed to an amazing ambiance. It felt both cozy and welcoming. The service was exceptional. Our server gave us excellent recommendations for both food and wine, clearly speaking from expertise. As first-timers, we found their guidance incredibly helpful in deciding what to order, and they made sure our glasses were never empty throughout the entire evening. The food itself - besides looking like a painting Apollodorus himself could have created - was absolutely delicious. We had the roasted red pepper stuffed with whipped feta, which was creamy and perfectly spiced. We also enjoyed the saganaki and the htapothi scharas (grilled octopus), which were my personal highlights of the night. Everything tasted fresh, was seasoned to perfection, and transported us straight to Greece with every bite. Thank you so much for such an exceptional experience! We will definitely be back to try the other dishes on the menu.
Fantastic! The food was terrific. We split the Maroulosalata salad, which was huge and easily enough for 4 people. My wife had the pork shank, wow! Exploded with flavor. My wife’s friend had the Pastitsio. I had the sirloin steak. All were so delicious. Our server appeared to be confused at various points during our visit. I expected problems, but thankfully none occurred.
This restaurant has the most unique and Greek vibe I have found outside of Greece. It’s a long, cave-like place that feels cozy and homey thanks to the large kitchen island like bar. There is quiet electronic music playing in the background. Service was impeccable. They started me off with a delicious Fava bean puree and pita bread. The octopus was delicious, though I’m not a fan of the balsamic drizzle on top. What’s wrong with lemon? (I guess there’s nothing more Greek than trying to be Italian). I loved the lemon potatoes. The wine selection was good and they let me taste before ordering a glass.
What an amazing find! Search for a good place to have lamb chops got us here but we had no idea we were in for an absolute treat. The meatballs and moussaka as appetizers and lamb chops for main course was an experience for the taste buds. Everything was fresh, plentiful and delicious. The Galaktobourekakia was the perfect end to an amazing meal. Not to forget...the friendliness of the staff and pleasant ambience makes it an ideal spot for a special meal. We will be back!!
An exceptional greek restaurant upscale but reasonable priced. Fresh ingredients and unique sweets. I have been in many greek restaurants and pylos should ranked at the top 3. Brunch is $18. We had lunch 3 appetizers 4 glasses of wine 2 Main dishes Entry 3 Brunch . 2 desert around 70 per person includes tip and tax. Revisited pylos in June 24 Still one of the best greek restaurant around. Great service as well.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC and for me certainly the best Greek food in NYC. I’ve been going for more than a decade and it’s still delivers consistently great quality. It is a relaxed and more causal atmosphere with amazingly authentic and sublimely executed dishes. The octopus, lamb chop, the trio of dips, the whole fish, hummus, the halloumi cheese, and the baked pasta are highlights for me. The octopus especially is cooked to perfection. The wine list has a good selection of Greek wines. The service is very personable and attentive.
Food was incredible server was incredible, just a bit pricier than average Mediterranean/greek food! Tables were also very close to one another, so very intimate seating and dining experience. The meatballs were incredibly juicy and flavorful, the blend of meats was perfect! The spicy feta presentation was unlike I had ever seen, you had to cut into the pepper to get the feta; made me a bit confused as to, should I eat this on pita? Or is it to be eaten alone? Overall, it was incredibly tasty and whether I ate it with Peter or solo, I would definitely order it again. Unfortunately, only stopped in for apps in a drink, but the rest of the menu was very expensive and atypical Greek would be well worth a return visit.
Elegant atmosphere with friendly staff. Lamb shank was excellent. Pistachio crusted wild bass was a little salty on outside and a little tasteless on the inside. Arugula salad was basic with isolated elements (more of a DIY salad). Restaurant was mostly empty but we were told to sit at the bar because we didn’t have a reservation.
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4.5/5 We ordered the most popular entrees but I wasn't really impressed. Lamb chop: the grilled flavor is nice but doesn't have too much seasoning Lamb shank: it's braised and falls off the bone. The sauce probably has some balsamic vinegar which is interesting but it doesn't go into the meat - might be better if the shank were marinated longer. Whole fish: nice and has char grilled flavor. It's fresh but is a pretty standard entree compared to other Greek restaurants. Greek salad: like it. The feta cheese is very nice and generous portion. Overall I think it's a place for Greek food and wine that won't stand out but good enough. Reservations highly recommend especially for Friday and weekend.
Been a very long time since I had been there (pre-Covid). I was a bit disappointed. The food wasn't nearly as good as back in the day. The meatballs used to be heavenly. Now they're mealy. The halumi was lukewarm. The quality of the spreads just aren't what they were. On the good side, the lamb shank is still excellent. Best octopus I've had in a while. The staff were very attentive. The wines are very reasonably priced. The tables are a bit packed, but it wasn't crowded when I was there (it might be less pleasant when full).
