Opinions de Rancho Viejo Mexican Restaurant Batavia
It looks like standard Mexican fare on the outside. The drinks and the food are far from ordinary. Treat yourself to non spicy and spicy entrees and lunches and grab a margarita or corona while you are at it. This place is top notch. We had my wife and 2 kids there and the kids food and the entrees were great. Very attentive maseros (waiters). Definitely took home what we didnt finish. Also a great stop on your way to college, Niagara falls or whatever.
Amazing place, so beautifully decorated. The food and service was amazing. We will 100% be back again and again. Edited a year later to say I still love this place. BRAVO. Thank you for being great in what seems to be a time of restaurant mediocrity
Ordered takeout. Was ready super quick. Food was fantastic and super good pricing. Staff is always nice and pleasant. Their lunch menu is awesome.
I'm not a mexican food expert ... My burrito was awesome and everyone loved what they ordered. Service was good.
Everything was really good so well worth it the food was really good the drinks were really good and our waitress was down to earth and easy going yes I would recommend eating there
Great food, great service, reasonable prices.
We had the opportunity to preview the upcoming new menu and order from it. Gilberto cooked it and the two new dishes we tried were phenomenal. Everyone should take the time to stop in and try the all new menu, you won't be disappointed. And as usual our server Antonio was the best.
Delicious! We decided to exit interstate 90 to get a more satisfying lunch than can be experienced at the rest stops. This place exceeded our expectations with fantastic salsa, lively atmosphere, friendly and efficient service, and delicious main dishes. We have 2 young kids and there were plenty of options both authentic and not. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling on 90 between Rochester and Buffalo.
The only thing that would have made our visit better was if they had fried ice cream in stock. We'll call ahead and confirm they have it. Enchiladas were excellent. Update: they had fried ice cream on this visit and it was great. Chips weren't multicolored like before and I think they mixed up which sauce went with the correct enchilada.
I had enchiladas supreme and a medium margarita - both were fresh and delicious. Service was prompt and extremely courteous. Restaurant atmosphere is very clean and lively with a Mexican theme of bright colors. Lots of seating. I was alone and sat in a comfortable booth. Highly recommend.
If I could give service 6 stars, I would. Our server was amazing. Personable, engaging and caught us in the parking lot with our leftovers I'd forgotten at the table. The food was great, as were the drinks. Atmosphere within the building is spectacular. All around a perfect dining experience.
This was truly an outstanding place to dine. The service consisted of efficient, friendly, and attentive people, followed by a delicious $3 Margarita (the salted rim was not overbearing but did, in fact, compliment the flavors). Our food was hot and delicious. What stands out about this restaurant was the decor and art work. Each chair was its own carved piece of history. The walls were covered in murals. Excellent, delicious and integral. Well done.
We had the Santa Fe burrito. It was huge! It was delicious! Lots of chicken and cheese! Definitely will eat here again. Huge menu with lots of choices. Friendly staff
Good Food, large portions. Try the Pollo Norteno, nice combo of chicken, shrimp and pineapple flavors, chicken burritos were traditional Mexican style stuffed with nicely seasoned, large pieces of chicken instead of the Mexican wanna be restaurants where the chicken heavily spiced and shredded . Definitely attention to detail here. Great fast service, our server smiled and never seemed like she was inconvenienced. Cute decor, typical Mexican music, liked that the staff all seemed to thank every customer when they left, giving that family friendly feeling to the atmosphere. Definitely would return here again.
I Love Love Love this place !!! First off, they have the best Dr Pepper I’ve ever had in any restaurant, and believe me that’s my first priority !!! I also love it that they have lunch specials !! Their food isn’t that spicy ,which is awesome, because I’m a wuss when it comes to spice 🤷♀️ 😞Sometimes I go there twice a week… with the brightly Mexican theme and the awesome Mexican music… it feels like I am on Vacation!!! Yay for me !!😉😃
Great food, great service! Would go back again next time I'm near by.
If you’re craving authentic Mexican cuisine with a perfect balance of flavor, atmosphere, and service, look no further than Ranchos! From the moment you step through the door, you’re greeted by a warm, vibrant ambiance that immediately sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience. The staff is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to ensure every guest feels at home. (Even if you say the wrong words in Spanish 😂)
Love the food. I can't get enough of it. I go about 4 times a week.
The service wad fast and very welcoming, out server was totally on top of all refills and everything we could need. The food was absolutely amazing. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and a very comfortable. The margarita ugh! Just alone is worth the visit. You get more than you pay for here! I wanted to go back when I was still on my way home. Thank you!
Husband and I just moved to the area and have heard wonderful things about this restaurant!! All were true! Delicious meal, clean, excellent service and great margaritas! Definitely will be back!
Friendly service , great food , very clean. Reasonable prices.
Great food, fast service. I loved their margaritas! Really joyful experience.
Last time we went to Rancho the food and service was very good. This time it was Amazing!! The queso fundido was full of chorizo and absolutely delicious. I had the El Combo and the moles were unctuous and savory. My wife had the majaras and was just as authentic and tasty as what we had in Central America. Our friend had the vegetable fajitas and it was a vegetarian's dream. We are looking forward to the next time we are in Batavia and revisiting Rancho Viejo.
Had really great food. Prices are a little steep for other restaurant options in area but worth the extra once in awhile.
The dining experience felt both luxurious and comfortable. It was a perfect night out.
Only takeout today, but delicious, as always. Some recent indoor updates have made the atmosphere better than ever. Staff is always friendly!
Just incredible. Stopped on a whim during a road trip and so glad we did. All the tables and chairs are authentically artful, the food simply amazing and the service was warm and inviting. Now I just wish this place was actually close enough so I could be a regular!
Tonight was our first time coming. It was worth every minute! The service is excellent, the food was so delicious and the portions are large. Warm and friendly atmosphere. We're going to come back often.
Best Mexican food in Batavia. The staff is attentive. The food always comes fast and accurate. Enchiladas is my go to and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is authentic and pleasant both aesthetically and auditoryly. As I have traveled to Mexico I assure you this place serves authentic Mexican food .
Always amazing. Wait staff is incredible and food is amazing. Always have a good time and good food anytime I come here. EDIT: July 2022- this place has unfortunately gone downhill. They increased the prices which is absolutely fine, but the service and quality of food has gone down instead of up like it should have. Very disappointing as this was one of my favorite restaurants but unfortunately we will not be coming back.
I have been to my fair share of Mexican restaurants around the Rochester area but this was pleasantly a nice surprise! The food I has was awesome and absolutely delicious! I ordered a taco salad and two burritos one chicken one beef and it came with rice and beans, I have never been more satisfied with my meal! Our waiter was very friendly and so helpful for our first time there! We ordered churros for dessert and they were so soft, succulent and sweet! Filled with caramel and covered with cinnamon and so great! I am more than pleased with the experience I had! Definitely planning on coming back next time I'm in Batavia!
Five my "A" ! Amazing: Place Amazing: Food Amazing: Service Amazing: Music Amazing: Time Very tasty food. You are literally understood without words! Very competently selected musical support. Recommended for meeting with friends and beautiful women ;) And of course go there as a family
Stopped in Batavia for the night on our way back to CT. Discovered this beautifully decorated Mex restaurant. It’s a real gem. We split a Fajita Quesadia which was just excellent. Service was excellent as well. This place is the real “McCoy” as the old saying goes. Spanish folks run it, and Spanish folks eat there so you know it’s completely authentic. Wish it was in our town!
The restaurant is perfect. First thing caught my eyes is the atmosphere, very nice decoration with Mexico style. The Mexico music is also charming. Regarding the food, it’s also perfect. We tried two dishes, grilled shrimp salad and Quesadilla. Although the grilled shrimp leaned toward salty, pairing it with crisp cucumber and creamy avocado balanced the flavor beautifully. The quesadilla—filled with juicy mixed meats and melted cheese—was even better when paired with dipping sauces. Only thing is service level, they even mixed our bill with the other table!
A gem in this area. Food was delicious, service was fast and lively atmosphere. Family friendly. It's spacious for a Mexican restaurant. We tried chicken flauntas, fajitas, pulled pork tacos and chicken quesidillas. The house hot sauce was super spicy. Would recommend to try.
Great food, great service from Jessica, love the atmosphere, super clean. Seems to be a local staple as it should be.

Fast, delicious, and exceptional value! The salsa was excellent, the food was delicious, the drinks were reasonably priced too!! The staff were friendly and helpful as well!!! Highly recommended…
Dinner rush can extend wait times a bit but the food is usually solid. Out of the two main Mexican restaurants in town I like this one better.
My friends and I stop.tgere tonight for some authentic Mexican food ..it was delicious The server on the other hand seemed like he couldn't be bothered . I originally order a raspberry tea. Because there was no diabetic options on the drinks beside Diet coke. And that makes me sick When he asked if I wanted a refill I asked if I could get some ice water and this gentleman rolled his eyes at me like it was an inconvenience to him Would go back but probably would not want the same guy
I love the lunch specials at this place. I frequntly get the fajita nachos or fajita burritos. I order online, and everything is done and ready in 20-30. Minutes for pickup. Waiting for pickup in the restaurant can be really quick to up to maybe 5 minutes depending on how busy they are. Pick-up meals come with their house chips and salsa, which is one of my favorites. Everything is always delicious. The portions are large. They have a bar area and regular dining area.
The atmosphere was so vibrant and fun! My street taco entree was delicious and hot.
The service was very good, walked in with party of 8 and got sat quickly and server was great. The chips and salsa were not as good as I wanted them to be. Depending on what you order the food can vary from very good to alright. Fajitas are great. You never know what you will like unless you buy it and try it. I tried the Santa Fe burrito last time I was there and didn’t care for it. Wife got the enchiladas, beef, chicken and pork. the homemade sauce was spectacular, the chicken was great. The beef and pork were not as good. I ordered a medium frozen margarita and it looked like a large! I wasn’t able to finish it lol Over all will go back when in the area, had a great time.
First time customers! And enjoyed ourselves immensely. Restaurant very colorful and lively. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Delicious warm chips and mild salsa delivered to our table fast. We ordered guacamole. Creamy goodness! We ordered Carnitas plate. Came with rice, refried beans, pico de Gallo. Sautéed onions and a generous portion of succulent pork. So delicious! Tacos Diablo Three tacos steak & Mexican sausage taco's. Serves with onions and cilantro on the side with their special sauce & lime. Again very generous portions. We topped off our meal with homemade Flan that was made to perfection. This was our first visit, but it will not be our last. Pricing was very good. Thank you for business done well. See you again soon
Food is good, wish portions were a bit bigger. Margaritas are always good. Servers are nice but usually don't check back on the table very much.
Food is very good. Service is usually friendly and attentive. Need to update restrooms. Surprised they havent got handicapped accessible restrooms.
I would say that the flavor of the food gets very close to authentic mexican flavor, the service is very good. I got to taste all the food that was ordered by my friends and all of it was good. Their Margaritas were also very good. If you are passing trough this town and you are craving some Mexican, this place will be a right fit for you.
Food was very good and service was friendly. Got there fairly early for dinner so not sure how loud it gets when busier. Took advantage of the margarita special and it didn't disappoint. Would definitely return next time in the area.
A nicely decorated Mexican restaurant in the small town of Batavia serving traditional Mexican plates. Would recommend if you're stopping by with a family, the restaurant is fairly large and the portions are just right. The chips and salsa were nice and fresh. Will definitely stop by again.

The food was basic Mexican. Our server was very attentive and professional. Our only issue was the margaritas. You would expect something handmade and flavorful from a mexican restaurant and not so…
A beautifully & festive decorated. The staff are very friendly. Food is very tasty, Family oriented. Reasonable prices. We take out of town guess here.
Overall our experience here was very good. The atmosphere was inviting and comfortable. The service was good. And the food was good, mostly. The cheese sauce was watery and milky. It's one of my favorite parts of coming to a Mexican restaurant and this did not even come close to expectations. Outside of this, the portions were good and so was the food. The issue really comes down to price. The fact is this isn't the best Mexican food I've ever had. It's not even the best Mexican food I've had locally. But it is the most expensive Mexican food I've ever had. After paying $5 for a bowl of milk to dip my chips into, I cant justify a higher rating.
Food is definitely not authentic but im sure it tastes better sitting down than in a to go container
I think it's a 2.5 stars. We waited a long time until someone came to our table to ask what we wanted to drink. Rice and beans were microwaved (hot dish, and warm food). The manager apologized when we were leaving for the service, but we saw him run all the time, and was him who told the waitress to came to our table.
Came on a Saturday, and the place wasn't too packed. Waited for a while to get our food, and it wasn't hot. I had the Street Tacos, and there was way too much cilantro on them. I couldn't eat more than one taco. Nobody checked on us until we were finished with our food. The server was nice, though. Prices are fair. However, the churros were absolutely phenomenal.
The BEST cheese dip I have had. The service was great and the dip was phenomenal but the prices are outrageous. I haven’t ever been to a Mexican restaurant that was THIS expensive. When we visited over the weekend I was shocked to see how empty it was… I opened a menu and figured out why. We had 2 margaritas and cheese dip, our total was $42. I’m sure the food is fantastic judging off the cheese dip, but I can’t fathom paying $22 for Quesabirrias.

The chips were good but they advertise that extra chips are $2.99 per basket, who were the cheapskates coming in and filling up on free chips? Lame. We got a pitcher of margaritas but the kind …
Ordered from DD the 5 dollar dessert didnt look anything like the pic 😂 no cool whip or chocolate drizzle and a small portion...what a rio off
Margaritas barely had any tequila , chicken fajitas were blah… no flavor. Same goes for the rice and beans !
The quesabirria was pretty good but 3 tacos for $28 is ridiculous and the most expensive I've seen in all 50 states. It's definitely not the best mexican food and not worth the prices. The enchiladas have too much tomato. The lettuce tastes like chlorine and if you close your eyes tight enough you can almost taste the hint of flavor that's in their rice. I'd rather save my money and make better food at home
Ordered chicken fajitas for takeout, when I got home (20 minute drive) I found out they didn't give me any tortillas. I called to complain and was told sorry, you should have checked when you picked them up. This is not the first time it happened.
Lunch menu isn't available on the weekends? Really? And then on top of that you're also out of tamales? Pitiful experience. After I finally got my order after our waitress brought out the wrong dish I was not impressed. The rice was a sight for sore eyes and did not taste good. Chicken was alright, drowned in too much cheese for my taste. The inside of the restaurant was cute but my boyfriend's grandmother nearly slipped because of something on the floor. Won't be coming back
Small portions not enough rice and expensive for the quality of food. I was hoping to have my taste buds wow but instead they were disappointed and the amount of rice they give you is small and a tease. Then when the bill came I was so upset not worth the money we paid.
I had made a review about 6 months ago and I am updating it. This place was a great place to eat but somehow it fell off in quality. Prices are sky high. Quesabirrias are $25 and the taco birrias 22.50 The quantity of food as well. Will not go here again. I’m done.
This is /was our favorite Mexican Restaurant until yesterday. Went for dinner, food was great, but they have raised their prices this week!!! $4.00 for a coke!!! Seafood dishes... their prices are ridiculous! I'm sorry, but this is pure price gouging!!! Good luck with that!
We stopped for an early dinner while travelling. Based on reviews, this seemed like a solid choice. First, the waiter assigned to us told the hostess in Spanish to switch him out. Next, another waite…

Ordered chicken, was given something that tasted like salty beef. Wanted to charge us $6 for chips & salsa, tried to explain to the second server that they gave us incorrect food, and that we were never given an initial round of chips & salsa. They proceed to bring out correct food, stone cold! Then when our second round of drinks came out and to our surprise we recieved a free chunk of Mexican rice in the bottom of one of them. Asked for management, gentleman came over and speak no english. Instead of correcting the situation, he RAISED the price on the check saying we recieved a dinner portion....even though we were that 11:45am for lunch. It's unfortunate as I probably wont be back, and my Son and i were the very first customers at Rancho. At one point they had our picture hanging on the wall.
So I ordered take out. 2 regular burritos, lettuce, tomatoes, the works and added shrimp on both (11$) and sides of rice and beans and a marg. 88$ total. Ok. Get home and the burritos are soaked and sitting in a sauce. (I live 30 mins away, so super soggy) I’m sure it’s good but not what I ordered. I called the restaurant, explained the situation and asked if that’s the normal thing for burritos. I get told it’s made perfect. Yes, I’m sure it is if you want a smothered burrito. But I didn’t. So I explain further that’s not what I wanted , he says ok hold on. The phone gets set down , I hear music and him greeting a customer then abiut 3 mins later it hangs up. I call back n explain who I am I was just on the phone and they hung up on me. Called right back n no answer it just rang .
Atmosphere fantastic. But....food was mediocre at best . The service here is the worst service I've experienced in 20+ years. Waited 18 minutes to get my check, I had cash in hand to pay it right then. The waitress gave me my check and walked away. I waited yet another 10 minutes for her to come collect payment. Yes I till tipped but only 15%. For really good service, I'm one to tip 50% or more so she lost out. It's not busy in here at the moment either. I won't be back.
It was the usual flair of American Mexican without any bells and whistles... the nacho chips were quite disappointing. The queso dip was ok. The food in general was okay. Bathrooms were quite clean.
Three times in a row I ordered food from there and they don't give you everything you're supposed to get. My favorite part is the hot sauce. Geneseo is way better
Honestly I love going here but highly dissapointed today !! I order arrow con Pollo abd a side of cheese sauce plus its suppose to come with chips and salsa. My arrow con Pollo had no peppers onions tomatoes in it like usually barely any in the container for 14 bucks. Then there wasn't any Salas and had maybe a half a bag of chips of the cheese sauce we purchased.
Just took my mom there for Mother’s Day lunch and after eating (food was ok) paying, and leaving a generous tip, we pulled away and at the red light right outside the restaurant a group of teenage girls who didn’t even seem to work there chased after the car and were screaming into my window at me about not paying our bill (which I most certainly did). I have no clue why this happened and when I called the restaurant afterwards the person on the phone wasn’t able to explain. Not sure if the staff is responsible but it was very jarring and spoiled the whole day and we won’t be going back.
My wife and I were kid free on a Friday night so we decided to treat ourselves to some Mexican. Probably the worst food experience we have ever had. Everything was luke warm, except the plates those were hot! Maybe that's how they warm the food up a few degrees. The health department would have a field day with their food temps!! The meat used for the taco salad was coated in so much water it soaked the shell. Not to mention it smelled like cat food. The server asked if we wanted boxes for our basically untouched meals and we said no thank you with a very disappointed face. He took our full plates away didn't ask why our meals were untoched or if we wanted something else. We paid our tab and will never return.
We decided to eat here because we thought it would have a nice Mexican atmosphere. We are Mexicans too, but we received terrible service from a waiter. He made us repeat each of our orders as if he couldn't hear us, even though we were speaking loudly enough. We were the only ones who received this kind of treatment. Perhaps it was because we entered speaking Spanish, and he only responded in English, even though he speaks Spanish. He could have simply told us if he didn't want to speak Spanish instead of having that attitude.
The food is great, hands down. BUT the racism that these people have is insane. We didn’t believe when people told us, but My fiancé was spoken to rudely, when he went in to pick up our food, they told him our food was ready the didn’t say another word to him, and when he asked about it because no one brought it up he was ignored by the staff, but when I came in (because it was like 15 minutes later) they acknowledged me and gave me no trouble getting our order.
