Took my girlfriend there on 1/28 for her Birthday dinner. The interior design was modern comforting and clean. I recently had a hip replacement, upon entering the establishment the owner observed that before I was using a cane assist and it had been snowing and he immediately opened the doors to assist. He also and one staff member did the same upon leaving and also offered to assist in making sure I got to my truck safely. An excellent caring individual. The bartender was also excellent and interesting to talk to and also knew with expertise how to make the signature drinks. Dinner server was extremely excellent and had been there 18 years . She knew the product well and explained as such . Food is an excellent and even beyond.. Prices reflect the times but no corners are cut and you get what you pay for which is well worth it in the way the food was cooked and premier cuts of beef are only used along with fresh seafood. This is an extremely nice restaurant with everyone from the owner , server and bartender all excellent. It’s well worth any price one might pay !
We had a Birthday dinner with Amy as our server, she did a wonderful job with our table of 12. Again food was great! We have continued to be very happy with our service, food, this is our 3x as a group to enjoy your restaurant!
People saying this food is bad is hilarious. They must give McDonald's 5 stars. Their lobster mania dinner is the best. Tamara is incredible. Ask for her.
Red Osier was great. The specials are great and service excellent. Great food!
So I now see why this place has the reviews it does. Phenomenal. All the way around the comfort of home feeling, the service and the food time spaced between servings allowed us to have a few drinks and digest for the next course. First time trying escargot highly recommend don't be afraid just do it. Will be back!!
Their entire restaurant was booked for multiple Christmas parties but they gave us a bar seat anyways. I'd be more impressed if they hadn't given someone else their own table later. Price is very high and for the Prime Rib being their signature I was sad at how normal it was. It was better than average but I've definitely had better for less. Didn't get to experience much of the atmosphere, but it seems like a typical bistro venue with some art on the walls, and a lot of Peanuts Comic related stuff.
Another great birthday dinner! I had the prime rib. Delicious and melts in your mouth! Starting off dinner with the rolls and strawberry bread is always fun. We sat in the dining room to the right which we haven't been in a long time.... It was so noisy, we couldn't hear each other talk. Maybe it was the time of day, we went at 7 PM, we usually go to dinner much earlier like 4PM. We will try that again next time.
After our server warmed up to us he was very nice and attentive. A little disappointed because when I made the reservation the person taking it made it a point to find out if it was a special occasion. It was our 41st anniversary; I told him that and he repeated it, twice. I thought that maybe we’d get a complimentary dessert or drink. No mention was made by anyone. Why ask??
I can't not express how happy I was with tonight's dinner experience. I was in tonight to celebrate with my elderly grandparents birthdays they're both in their 90s. The staff was beyond helpful and attentive. Our waitress was a saint and beyond helpful and accommodating. The food was delicious as always. Best lobster bisque ive ever had. We're from by buffalo and always worth the drive.
Mitch and I called while kitchen closing on Tues and they graciously made us to go meals. They didn't have to do that but was so nice after my long day of my mom in the hospital. Everything was delicious amazing potato salad and prime rib. Thank you for your kindness.
I want to thank you all for not only amazing food, but amazing service. My son has sensory issues and it was his first time so it was a bit of a struggle to get him through dinner. But our waitress understood completely and made sure he had everything he needed when he was ready. Also thank you to one of the owners (at least that’s what my daughters said) for opening the main bathrooms when they needed it. They came back to our table and said nothing but great things about how nice the guy was to them.
Delicious prime rib and the bloody mary rocked! And the service was wonderful with the young man who seated us, Sandy, Emily and Rose (who did an awesome job of selling deserts but we were just too full). Now I have regrets as I want that carrot cake...Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Words cannot describe the incredible service of this establishment. The staff is by far Stewart's of their profession. The owner is truly by all means a most gracious host. The ambiance just awe inspiring and so very welcoming. The presentation of every meal possesses flavor equal to personality you can tell love was put into every dish. My husband and I will gladly return
The entire experience at Red Osier every. single. time. is wonderful. From the friendly staff, to the amazing chefs and top it off with owners who give back so much to the community, to their employees and have the best customer service. Famous for prime rib and seafood, BUT... if you call in advance with enough notice, they will prepare the best vegan or vegetarian meal you could imagine! Thanks to Steve, Tim, Nicole, Bob, and everyone else...another amazing experience!
It was my first time going here, On Veterans Day. I had never really had prime rib prior. But, it turns out I went to the right place, I was very happy with my experience, and will absolutely be returning.
ABSOLUTELY top notch service (Sandy and the staff was amazing!) I've never had better food (prime rib? Get the big one.. leftovers!) dessert? All chocolate pie. French onion soup is simply amazing 11/10 would certainly recommend and We managed to close down. Last table for the night. I'll remember the jokes, food and Sandy for the rest of my life and I'll be back for sure, if I'm able. A bit pricey (it's not Denny's) but FAR better than chain steakhouses, the Western Door steakhouse at Seneca Niagara casino (terribly overpriced) and doesn't hold a candle to longhorn or Texas Roadhouse. It's a special occasion unto itself and will always be a treasured memory.
My first visit to Red Osier and I was totally impressed! (Give them a standing ovation for the outdoor Christmas Decorations, as well!) We didn't have reservations, yet, the hostess seated us quite promptly. Our server, Emily, was an absolute darling. She was very attentive to our needs, checking often if we were in need of anything, but not too much; just right. She brought our drinks, nice fresh water, starter salads, fresh rolls and bread with cinnamon butter. Then, our main courses followed. My first ever Chicken Osier and it was the MOST DELICIOUS meal with a red sweet and sour sauce. Melt in your mouth tender! The Prime Rib was cooked to perfection. Our hats off to the chef! Then, DESERT! Carrot cake and Pecan Pie. The Pecan Pie was Homemade Grandma quality . . wait, WAIT . . NO . . IT WAS THE BEST I'VE EVER TASTED! Wanted to take some home but it was so delicious I couldn't stop. Needless to say, we devoured the entire piece. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with the nautical theme, everything is clean and dusted. Great great place for friends, family, or a date. If I could give higher than a 5 rating, THIS restaurant would get it! Enjoy~
A long time in the making, we finally got to this restaurant! I was reminded of the supper clubs of years ago like Fannys, Ava Ransom and The Wishing Well. A lovely sized room decorated tastfully in primitive style. Very live room, can get loud but we were happy. We really enjoyed seeing the tableside presentations. The crab and lobster seafood bisque presentation was lovely but the taste, that was very very good. Will go back to try the Prime Rib next time. We both had the Ultimate Filet. Delicious sweetbread, tasty strawberry butter with baked potato and black and blue mashed potatos. Bananas Foster for dessert with presentation. We also noticed there was a presentation for the Caesar as well as the prime rib presentation. We had a very enjoyable evening, welcoming staff and excellent food. Thank you!
We drove an hour to take our mom here for her 70th birthday. Our server was wonderful and spent time with us explaining the menu and answering all our questions. Casual attire and atmosphere meets fine dining and table side service. The prime rib combos were a favorite at our table. Everything melted our mouths. It is on the pricey side. Expect to spend $100 per person but all is worth it. Great special occasion place.
We had a wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner last night! The food was delicious & friendly service! They made a wonderful vegan meal for a member of our party. Thanks to the chef for not only making the meal, but dropping by our table twice! Can’t go wrong with eating here! Added bonus, seeing it decorated for Christmas.
My family and I enjoyed dinner here for my birthday. The food was delicious and our sever was attentive and friendly. Personally I love the warm interior decor. I also appreciate that you are asked to silence electronic devices and the removal of hats. That was very nice. The prices are high but we all enjoyed our meals and desserts. Plus all was fresh so it was worth it. The filet mignon cuts like butter! I only mention the price to prepare others. I’m sure it has to do with the current economy and prices being high at most places. If you have never been I definitely recommend going! I did not feel the need to take off any stars but I did think my lobster tail was over-cooked because it had a more rubbery texture. The crab and lobster bisque seen in the picture was the best I have ever had though! Also my husband told them it was my birthday and there was none of the typical recognition that you receive in some other restaurants. Again, I do not feel that deserves to take a star off. Perhaps it’s just not something they do there. Otherwise, it was a wonderful meal and time spent.
Loved my experience at the Osier. The staff was very welcoming and friendly, patient and comfortable. Absolut must go on a weekday had the palce to ourselfs for some time!! food was good, the choices are good and intresting. I got the Tommahawk steak cowboy style high recommend it. the prices are high, you will spend a lot of money here. I left feeling stuffed statisfied and my wallet needed a wheelchair.
Beautiful restaurant from the outside in, friendly staff. The clams casino and black and blue Steak was fantastic. This restaurant is more for special occasions as it is more expensive, but reasonably so for the quality of their food. It was very fun to watch how some food was brought to tables and made table side.
We had a wonderful night out with friends! The food was amazing. The lights were flickering due to a wind storm but the staff just kept up their business of serving the packed house. A special thank you to Red Osier for the Christmas light display. That was a special treat after dinner
What a wonderful establishment.great old fashioned ambience and decor.was my first time here and I was blown away by the wonderful staff.kind and very informative.always there for you.explaining the different items I did not know.suggesting different dishes.the food was absolutely out of this world delicious.everything was cooked to perfection.the stuffed mushrooms appetizers were amazing. I had tried the lobster and crab bisque,YUM.the filet minion was cooked to perfection and the Blue cheese mashed potatoes were delicious.desserts were fabulous.all in all a wonderful experience.will be returning.
I took my sister to the Osier for her birthday dinner. We had a cocktailsl at the bar before dinner & the bartender has a great personality and can make a good Margarita & Moscow Mule!!!! Our waiter John was wonderful! The Caesar salad that he made fresh at the table was delicious! The French onion soup my sister ordered was also very tasty. Neither of us could finish all our dinner which was prime rib, lobster, langostino & some of the best mashed potatoes. I will be back & would recommend coming here & to experience the ambiance, great service & food.
These guys are known for prime rib. I'm a real beef snob. I was not only not disappointed but genuinely impressed. I would come here again even though is is 6 hours from home. Worth the trip. Service, food quality, ingredient quality, presentation, food temperature, unique homemade condiments, liquor offering and, staff attitude were all spot on.
The food is amazing, and the staff are wonderful. We visit every year to see the Christmas lights they put up, and my 5-year-old and 3-year-old are absolutely star-struck every time. This has truly become a special family tradition for us.
We received a gift certificate here for our wedding and I was a little worried based on some of the reviews. I’m so so so so glad we came and we will be back. First, Emily was our server and she was wonderful. Very attentive, kind and on top of everything. We arrive around 550, 10 min before our reservations. We were greeted immediately by one of the owners who sat us immediately and was very pleasant. My husband ordered one of the specials, 16oz strip steak with French onion sauce and garlic bread, he subbed a potato for salad and got soup as his side. I ordered the Osier chicken with white mashed. I asked if I could get the French onion and was told it was an up charge which I had no problem paying. I don’t eat steak, ever, which is why I got chicken. My husband’s steak could literally be cut with a fork and was the best steak I ever tried. I was so envious and wished I got that entree instead and I never eat steak. He loved it also. My French onion soup was cooked to perfection and it was so refreshing to not have salt over power the soup like you normally get at most establishments. It was great. My chicken and potatoes were also cooked perfectly as well. There only thing on my chicken I wish was different was that the chicken itself was seasoned more. However, I am not a chef and maybe they feel it would take away from all the toppings, it was good either way. The other thing is that my “up charge” for the soup was actually the full price for the soup. Had I known that I would have got the salad that came with my meal too, for free, and the soup as well. I should have clarified and asked what the up charge was. Lastly, most of the complaints I saw on google was because of how long it took to dine here. Wasn’t our experience at all. I purposely noted the times to see what the fuss was about. One of the quickest dinners we’ve ever had. Seated 550 Drinks immediately Order taken 605 Soups delivered 609 Finished soups 620 Husbands Salad and bread delivered 621 Said she was checking on our entrees at 632 Dinner delivered 646 Finished dinner @ 7 (left overs) Boxed at 705 Asked about dessert at 708 Received the check at 710 Out the door 712
I was leary after reading some of the reviews. I was in town visiting friends and family. We came to hear the band Bad Sign but due to weather they had to cancel. But glad we kept the reservation for dinner. Every steak and prime rib melted in our mouth. My daughter in law had seafood Alfredo. Banana fo was wonderful too.ster and creme boulette
Wait and bar staff was very attentive and responsive. One of the owners spoke with us a while, he was friendly and personable. The food was delicious. I mean, very well done. Lobster bisque, prime rib, peanut butter pie - amazing. The Christmas lights were what pushed the evening over the top. Well done.
Absolutely delicious! My wife and I came here over six years ago and it was ok but I remember that my prime rib was cold. But know it was my wife birthday so I made reservations since it was under new management. Wasn't disappointed at all, food was hot service was great and we were full.
Red Oshier was packed on New Year's eve. They were behind about an hour but the bar staff expertly handled getting drinks out, joking with customers and multitasking. As expected the spinach salad, twice baked potatoe seafood bisque and asparagus were super. My steak was a little overcooked but everyone else's food was perfect. All in all a very enjoyable evening.
Iconic? Yes. Exceptional prime rib and filet and langustinos? Yes. Kind server doing the best she can? Absolutely. This is a beef and seafood fine dining (read $$$$) restaurant, and the beef and seafood were fantastic. The salads were nothing special (house and wedge), and the prime rib potato skins app were definitely not easy to eat and definitely skippable. But the portions are giant, and it makes it less financially painful to bring home a big bag of leftovers (if you do leftovers). And go with people you like to talk to, this is not a place for a "quick bite". But it was a very nice way to spend an anniversary evening, and do TRY to save room for dessert - they are also fantastic!
Our go-to spot for Prime Rib. It was excellent, as usual. Salad was fresh and crisp. Rolls were served warm out of the oven. Server was pleasant and meal arrived promptly. We were thrilled to see that they still had their holiday decorations in place, and despite the time of year, it did not come across as overly tacky. As we arrived before sundown, we were again delighted to see the many outdoor holiday lights still in place. It bonded well with the recent snowfall and we went away with full bellies and uplifted spirits. It would have received 5 stars, except that I do not tolerate well both garlic and onions. I requested my salad without onions, and it arrived that way. However, it is evident that they're pre-made with the onions, and they just removed them from the salad they served me. Also, the Au Jus served with the meat had some garlicky flavoring, as I continued to taste it and suffer the repercussions all evening. Overall, a good meal, despite the few minor complaints. Highly recommend if you are looking for a good piece of meat.
Sat on the outdoor patio and took a while to get someone to take drink orders (had to go to the bar for the first couple rounds). Once we ordered dinner, he visited regularly. The band playing was a Fleetwood Mac tribute band and they were awesome. Had a great time and considering I haven't been here in over 40 years...
Had a wonderful experience with the manager heather. And the owner. will be heading back to try some other menu options. They offered a prime rib dinner special which I’ve never had prime rib so it was nice to not pay full price to try something new.
Arrived 10 minutes before our 5pm dinner time. The owner was the one who greeted us and told us we had to wait till 5 to be seated at an already empty table. He did tell us we can get a drink at the bar or go to their gift shop. So don’t seat me so your hoping I drink or shop instead? The stuff for sale inside was mostly from TJMax and marked up in price we noticed as we waited to be allowed to go to our empty table. When the specials were given we were not told of the October specials I found in the restroom on a flyer, so when asking after we ordered we paid $41 for the $18 special. Maybe when telling us the specials tell us ALL the specials. The steak was mildly warm but cooked correctly, and I didn’t want to wait for them to heat it up. My wife’s shrimp was fine. This place isn’t what it used to be, but it is what it is. Most likely won’t be back over a hour drive on our Anniversary for meals that were extremely over priced. I did find their menu fun to warn you that their prices have tripled and they are slow as hell in the kitchen so this may not be the place for you with the words from the owners. All in all was an average experience with a longer then normal wait and very overpriced food. Reply to owner. Snide remark? You mean a honest comment. You asked me when my app was served if all was fine. And you should go to every table it’s your job. It’s ok, read all your reviews and do better. We eat out often, and do know how reservations work, sorry your trying to increase you bar and gift sales. You weren’t that busy that your kitchen would be overwhelmed by any means. I wish you luck.
Haven't eaten here in over 30 years. Was disappointed. My prime rib was ordered medium rare, came VERY rare, and really was not very tasty. Salad was good. Table VERY crowded (water pitcher took up a LOT of space, as did the salt shaker!). Will not be returning, dorry to say. Our waitress (Emily) was VERY busy, but did a good job!
Was taking a drive and thought we'd stop in for dinner. Husband loves prime rib and I like delmonico steak (they don't serve that), so I ordered a filet mignon. Both steaks were pretty so-so. Ordered medium rare; wasn't overcooked but it just didn't have any flavor (lack of seasoning, perhaps?). Almost $200 for dinner for 2, but left unsatisfied and disappointed. Was a meh for sure. Probably won't go back.
We came to The Red Osier to celebrate a very special occasion—my grandparents’ 50th wedding anniversary—with a party of 10. We’ve been here multiple times in the past (with having good experiences) and this time unfortunately, the experience was nothing short of disappointing. To start, it took 20–30 minutes just to have our drink orders taken, despite the restaurant not being busy. We had to ask the hostess to bring bread after waiting far too long, and at no point throughout the night were we offered drink refills. When we mentioned this to staff at the end of our visit, we were met with the response, “Why didn’t you ask for them?”—which is absolutely not the kind of reply you expect from a fine dining establishment. We expected to be waited on, not ignored. As for the food—most of it was subpar. Two chicken entrees were completely dry, the scallop scampi did not taste fresh, and the scallops themselves were clearly not fresh—chewy and unpleasant. The prime rib was basic — not worth the price when you can get the same quality for a lower price elsewhere. For a restaurant at this price point, that’s unacceptable. The most disappointing part was the lack of follow-through on a very simple and meaningful gesture. When we made the reservation, we informed the staff that it was our grandparents’ 50th anniversary. We were told they would bring out a cupcake with a candle to acknowledge the occasion. That never happened on its own. The dessert was brought out after they had already ordered their own dessert and after we had complained. For a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, it was very disappointing. After voicing our concerns, we spoke directly with the chef—who apologized, but politely argued. Our bill was adjusted slightly, we were told desserts would be on the house, only 3 out of 10 guests had eaten desserts —so this offer felt more like a PR move than a true attempt at making things right. We had high expectations for this evening—both because of the occasion and the price tag attached to the meal. There were other things that did and did not happen that you expect from an expensive restaurant. Unfortunately, The Red Osier failed us on nearly every front. We will not be returning, and I would not recommend it for anyone looking to celebrate something meaningful or expecting a fine dining experience. Edit: To say I "like to hear myself speak" is a wild accusation -- especially considering since we were addressing OUR concerns about OUR service -- the public should be made aware. Yes, you're right, one guest in our party mentioned they would return AFTER the awkward encounter we had with the chef, and it was said to keep the peace. After reading your responses to other critical reviews, it's clear that any form of feedback is met with defensiveness instead of reflection. Your inability to accept constructive criticism and the rude way you choose to respond to paying customers says far more about your business than anything I could write. I stand by everything in my original review -- and your reply only reinforces why WE won't be returning. Please do better.
Service was good. But the experience and food quality did not meet expectations of previous visits. At the distance to drive and the price of meals, we will not return again. Apps were good, but shrimp cocktail not. It tasted like it was cooked somewhere else and not serve chilled. No cocktail sauce, but a sauce that looked like salsa. My bisque was a different recipe ( tasted horribe), snow crabs not impressive and were bland. Prime rib was ok. We were disappointed. But the staff were very nice and the dining rooms very nice.
In its hey day a wonderful place over the years and with the new owners it's nice but some items have been el"cheepo. Nice well taken care of clean with helpful staff but lacking consistency. Would go back again but if no improvement then will take them off the list! Great light display.
Had dinner with 4 old friends prior to attending my uncle’s “celebration of life”. I thought it was appropriate as we had been there roughly 30 years prior for his wedding rehearsal dinner. Thought it would be a nice “closing of the circle” thing. Two got the rack of lamb which they really enjoyed and the other 3 got prime rib (one 10 oz and two 16 oz). Salads were ok. The onions had dried out a bit and were slightly shriveled. They are using canned black olives in the salad, which for a average entree price of $+50 seemed a bit of an odd way to shave pennies off the food cost. As noted in several other posts, the prime rib has significant amounts of gristle that was challenging to cut through and there was a LOT of silverskin between the cap/deckle portion and the eye portion. I’ve had prime rib several times and I have never noticed a steak knife impenetrable band between the cap and eye in the past. It was good, but required quite a bit of at the table butchery to remove the silverskin and parts that were challenging to chew and cut. Frankly, I expected better at the price. Edit: my friend discussed sandwiches and the food truck business at the bar as we were leaving. We went to your location because of the reasons I stated (uncle’s service). Going to the restaurant was his idea. I mentioned the reviews that were negative and he noted that the food truck products were indeed excellent, so we went. I’ve worked in restaurants since I was 14 years old starting as a dishwasher and working in several mid level steakhouses and then moving into grill/broiler positions. I’ve loaded the Alto Shaam with thousands of prime ribs and sliced and served them. I then went on to work in the industrial food production world. Either all the reviews stating gristle/silverskin/fat are all vitriolic anger focused at you irrationally, or your product regularly is exhibiting these characteristics. I gave the review of a 3 because it was ok, not awesome, not bad, but ok. Your servers were outstanding by the way.
The food was delicious, but it took two hours to get our food and the place was not busy. The prices are crazy ($66 for a steak and potato) and after our plates were cleared it was another 20 minutes to finally get our check. Won’t be going back.
The food was good but not outstanding. The Raspberry Parmesan dressing on the salad was exceptional. However the service was pretty poor. We were 5 couples. All seniors and had decided to take advantage of the early bird specials. When we asked John our server about them the whole mood changed and he acted like he was a bit put out. Rattled thru items quickly, seemed upset when one of us did ask for a repeat of something. Overall not a very personable waiter at all. He definitely picked the wrong profession. And this was not just my feeling it was a consensus. If it had not been for the fact that they add the gratuity automatically he would have been in a much worse mood for his next customers. The atmosphere was awesome but the service, not so much.
Disappointed. The food was just ok. For 4 people our bill was $540, only calamari and onions and mushrooms as extras. Not worth it as my prime rib was tasteless and was not as tender as it should have been. The steaks were small. The lobster bisque was good. I could tell none of us were thrilled. We thought to make it better we took deserts to go. The carrot cake was huge but for $22 it was dry on the side where they cut it and the peanut butter pie was so dry it crumbled. Another $54 wasted. I had wanted to go there for years. Finally was treated by our kids and felt bad that they wasted their money. Sandy our waitress was the best part.
Beyond outrageously priced. Can go to any comparable high end restaurant or steakhouse within 50 miles and probably pay 1/5th the bill we received. Takes the joy out of a nice dinner when you have to decide between making your home mortgage payment or a nice dinner. Otherwise, the food was good and I appreciated the “no hats” disclaimer.
Everything was fine, my meat was weird. I'm not a newbie to prime rib. One end of my 16oz cut has a texture I've never experienced before. It was like a watermelon rind texture.. but you could not cut it with a steak knife. Most of the cut was fine.
I had dinner reservations for me and my family at Red Osier on Mother’s Day. A lot has changed since the last time I ate here (over a year ago). I guess new owners stepped in and made some changes. IMO, the quality of their food went down while the prices went up... Ridiculously high prices. For example, the price of a glass of wine here is the same as the price of the bottle at other places. I ordered princess cut prime rib, dozen steamed clams, and mashed potatoes. The prime rib was overcooked, and there was more fat than meat on what I got. They forgot the clams and I had to ask twice before I got them. You used to be able to choose between garden or Cesar side-salad. Now if you want Cesar then you have to pay extra for them to make it at your table. No kids menu. IDK why, but our server seemed generic and artificially nice. On a positive note, they redecorated inside and built an outside bar. The best part was the outdoors bar, and I don't even drink. I loved the layout, the memorabilia, the style. I also liked how there were comfy rocking chairs and a fire pit too.
Friday night dinner every customer got shuffled into a smaller room where it was loud as hell. There was no way to have actual conversation with my wife and we rarely get away from kids to actually enjoy each other. Meanwhile, the other large dining area was completely empty the entire time we were there. They continued to pack people into the smaller room for dinner and it was obnoxiously loud. Usually if you are expecting to spend $100 a person you would like to have somewhat of a quiet evening. If I want to do sports bar atmosphere I would save a lot of money and go elsewhere. Update post owner comment: We did mention to the waitress that it was "so loud in here we can barely hear each other..." Only for the waitress to get big eyed, agree and carry on. I would think if other dining rooms are available, you'd NATURALLY AND PROFESSIONALLY offer other seating areas to be spread out a little bit. No idea why I have to make a more direct request when it was so damn obvious! Your reply is lacking in explanation and realistic expectations from someone that would expect the best at $100 a plate!!! This is a completely reasonable expectation. If there is a next time, I will be sure to give my list of demands upon entering and make certain it's clear how a high scale, high priced restaurant should perform business.
After reading all the negative reviews, i still didn't want to believe what i was reading. But everyone at our table had something negative to say about the experience. 4 people ordered the prime rib with shrimp special, and I ordered a strip steak. After about 45 minutes of waiting, the entrees finally arrived. The shrimp was missing from each special, and the meat was cold. Even the well-done cuts were cold and pink. The place was busy, and our server did a pretty good job of staying on top of things despite being new to the job. The atmosphere of the restaurant is basic, but what we all immediately noticed when we sat down was that the acoustics were horrible. I had difficulty hearing the person sitting right next to me. There are just too many negatives about this place to warrant the insane prices they charge.
I have never had a prime rib with almost zero fat, it was very disappointing. Also the waiter decided without asking to pour the as jew on my meat and made a pool of it under my meat which was way to much. My husband enjoyed his meal but did not spend a ton on a prime rib meal. This was my birthday dinner and was extremely disappointed. I will seriously consider somewhere else next year.
The staff was friendly and attentive. The food was not very good. The tomato on my salad plate was rotten, the clam casino was all breading, the baked potatoes were over cooked and tasted reheated, the prime rib was over cooked, and the seafood was mediocre. The prices are VERY high for the quality of cooking and the presentation of all this dishes with kale and chopped parsley was very dated. I will not be returning or will I recommend this restaurant. The bill was over $300 for three people and none of us were happy with our food.
We did not have reservations. When we walked in right at 4pm the hostess said we can take a seat at the bar for 5 minutes as she found us a table since we did not have a reservation. Are reservations expected? We were confused as the place was empty. But we sat at the bar and our bartender was lovely. She made amazing key lime martinis! One of the best we have ever had. We were seated within 5-10 minutes. At first it was very warm in the dining area, but the air came on quickly. The dinner tables are relatively small, we were struggling to find space for the appetizers and drinks from the bar. Our waitress was friendly and she was training as well. Calamari was very good. Disappointed the Caesar salad didn’t have anchovies. When I asked the waitress she said we have to request the anchovies. When we ordered our filets we were asked if we wanted mushrooms and onions, so just not sure why we wouldn’t be asked if we wanted anchovies in the salad. French onion soup was good. My husband was served my filet and I was served his.We noticed a few bites in and swapped. The outside of the filets were almost crunchy with a smoky taste, like from a grill. The mashed potatoes were disappointing as they were super runny and almost watery. The ranch dressing on the salad was the same. We kept finding ourselves handing the plates to the waitress because she said she didn’t want to reach over and be rude. Which was respectful of her, but when going out to dinner, I don’t expect to be cleaning up my table. The tables really are too small. We ordered peach cobbler for desert. It was alright. Tasted a little doughy, and not completely cooked. The bill was pricy, to be expected, with our drinks as well. But overall I was disappointed this visit! In the past, we have experienced better. We were asked what we were celebrating and it was my fathers birthday. No complementary dessert or candle in the dessert. That was also a bummer.
My mother cried on Mother's Day should be sufficient to explain the rating, but I will go into some detail in the hopes that it might make some change. It took over 2hrs from our 6pm reservation for food to reach our table. In that timeframe my mother's blood sugar dropped to the point where we had to ask our waitress to bring her dish out first. So my mother sat there for almost 20minutes eating her meal by herself and felt so upset that she was ruining her sons dinner (which is ridiculous because the night was supposed to be about her). I am frustrated by the night on many levels because I was the one to suggest this restaurant due to my wife's and I previous experiences here. The food was good. The steak and prime rib were cooked well...........but Gordon Ramsie cooking himself could not have made up for the complete lack of service and the utter disinterest of management when the problem/experience was brought to their attention --- quote "I'll pass it along". Summary - Red Osier clearly overbooked/understaffed for Mother's Day dinner and chose to barely even acknowledge the sad experience. Edit: I stand corrected by my brother, the wait time was around 1:45minutes......so just shy of 2 hours. The owner's response is a good reflection of my point though. Our meal was paid in full, the waitress was tipped well. We will not be back though. My recommendation is drive a bit farther down the road to Alex's Steakhouse for the same quality food and a likely better experience.
I never leave a review but food was disappointing service not up to par and didn't realize a 4 month old baby made a party of 4 turn in to a party of 5. So they tacked on 20%gratuity which I paid but very disappointing! Would not recommend!
Based in owner responses towards customer complaints, I will not be going here. I was going to take him for his birthday. I thought a bit of nostalgia would be nice. However Im seeing the reviews and the feedback. There is no way Im taking him somewhere where if hes not happy you think you can talk to him in that manner. I sure wont accept that behavior either. You'd better learn to be more professional because youre driving away customers before we eve come in.
Salads that were listed as “choices” were additional charges with no advance notice. Twice backed potatoes were offered by the waitress without mentioning the additional charge. Mushrooms and onions were offered to the person who bought the most expensive steak (2 pound tomahawk) with no mention of additional charge. We knew that the meal was going to be expensive as we researched in advance. We did NOT expect $170.00 in hidden charges. These additional charges should have been noted on the menu or at a minimum by the server!
I’m a long time patron. We just went there in the spring and had a wonderful five star experience. After their new reopening I’d advise some caution, I had requested same table, main dining room. When got there we were basically put in hallway to huge dining room in back, acoustics were awful had to shout to each other, couldn’t hear servers. Then the service. I don’t pay $80 for a steak and 20% mandatory gratuity to have pitchers of water on the table. I go to chunky cheese for that. And the whole experience was more fast casual versus fine dining. The food was good, not their best by any means. And family dessert staple crème brûlée not available, then final send off waitress calls my birthday grandson by wrong name. So they were subpar on every front, are they becoming party house? I may never pay to find out hopefully can find other place between Rochester and Buffalo. If anyone has suggestions please chime in. The evening was saved by being with good family, but we don’t have to and won’t drive 50 minutes for the experience of last night.
We have gone to the Red Osier for years to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. We ordered the dinner for two special, and I ordered the filet and my husband the prime rib. Both to be done medium. My husband's was perfect however, I received a tiny piece of meat that looked like the shape of three fat fingers with with two spaces between them. Upon cutting to this supposed piece of beef, I discovered that it was charred and blackened and very, very over done. Not wanting to make a scene I tried to eat the middle of one of the fingers and just couldn't eat the rest. The waitress came by and asked how everything was and I explained that the meat was charred and she asked if I wanted another and replied, no, as I had lost my appetite. Let's see what else happened. We heard other waitresses asking their customers if it was a special occasion for them and we were not asked. The mushrooms were way over salted, the ice cream came out all melted with hot fudge dripping all along the outside of the dish and we had to wait for spoons which made the ice-cream even more soupy. Oh. the bill came without any deduction regarding the over cooked embarrassing piece of meat and we were told that a new chef was preparing the food. Also, the outside landscaping had always looked so beautiful. Now there are weeds and no flowers and carriages covering the previous flower beds. Oh, and we came at 4:30 not a busy time. Sorry, Red Osier you have lost two faithful customers, and we will not be buying gift certificates for our children any longer.
Read all one and two star reviews before you decide to dine here. It was much of the same for us. I was soooo looking forward to trying The Red Osier after all the years I heard people talking about it. Nope. My husband said it is not what it used to be. He ranks our meal here in the top 5 of the worst dining experiences he's ever had. I agree with him and all those who rated it one or two stars. Enjoy pictures of our medium well prime rib dinners placed in front of us one hour and forty-five minutes after we were seated.
I travel weekly for business SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!!! The prime rib we ordered was extremely underwhelming—lacking flavor, undercooked, and rubbery. It was so disappointing that all three of us could only manage a few bites. I was hoping a server would check in on us, but unfortunately, no one approached our table to ask if everything was satisfactory. This lack of attentiveness is not only poor service but also concerning, especially given that at 7:00 PM on a Saturday night, only six tables were occupied. As someone in the service industry myself, I understand the importance of staff being trained to recognize when a customer is dissatisfied, particularly when a meal goes largely untouched. On a positive note, I will say that the appetizers and soup were excellent. I attempted to speak with someone before leaving but was unable to find anyone available. MY RESPONSE FROM THE OWNER WHO CLEARLY DOESN’T care about his business: Hello Jeanette. Thank you for your email. We will certainly look into this. I am the owner and also the host last night. I do make rounds to every table, and as I did last night, when I went to your dining room, a guest was using the restroom with a child, I ran into them coming out of the restroom. I apologize I did not come and check after that, I saw no issue or sensed anything being wrong. All of our servers are trained to check back with their guests after dinners are served. Emily has been on staff here for many years, so I again apologize if that did not happen. I also do not know how you could not have found someone to vent your disappointment. I am literally the last person in the restaurant nightly as well as my bartender, last night was no exception. There was certainly someone here to speak to. I did check with your server. She stated she did indeed check on your table. I certainly believe her for she said she had to grill up one of the steaks to someone's liking. Stating that there was a lack of attentiveness is incorrect. As well, I checked with my bartender, and she stated as you were leaving you were "standoffsish." My response to him: Your defensive response is a clear reflection of why your business is struggling, as evidenced by the limited number of occupied tables on a Saturday night. My perceived “standoffish” demeanor stemmed from my complete dissatisfaction with your restaurant. I also find it difficult to believe that you are a premier catering provider for multiple facilities across Western NY. Your inability to accept criticism constructively, coupled with a lack of empathy, suggests poor business practices. I did not seek compensation or any form of reparation—only to express my dissatisfaction. As a business professional, an appropriate response would have been to acknowledge the feedback and perhaps offer a second chance, possibly with a small incentive. However, your approach speaks volumes about your business philosophy, which may explain the decline in customer traffic. I remember a time when The Red Osier was thriving, with weekend reservations being nearly impossible to secure. Unfortunately, that is no longer the case. Rest assured, I will not be returning, and I will be sharing my experience with others.
We had the worse dining ever. We were there on Friday 7/26/24 with reservations for 4 at 5:30. We had 2 orders of the nights sea food special with shrimp, scallops, fish and sides. We also ordered a queen cut prime rib and a petite cut, both cooked to medium. After a very long time our food came. The 2 sea foods were cold, the queen cut was what I’d say was raw. We returned the seafoods. After another long wait they came out cold , again. We asked for manager who came over to hear us. She took my wife’s dinner, stuck her finger in it and said it was fine. She then brought it over you me, asked me to put my finger in it. And it was cold. Very unprofessional!!! My wife sent hers back and she did not have a dinner. They did bring a new rib over which was done excellent. Mean while our waitress was no where to be found!!! We were there over 3 hours!!!! So, we will Never be back. That is sad because we have been there before with no concerns!!!
Our waitress was absolutely the best!!! Ok but I ordered the small prime rib and plus ordered the 7 oz lobster tail. When I was eating my lobster it didn’t taste right, but I cut another piece I saw A bloody veins inside the lobster itself. It wasn’t the lobster shell it was red blood on my fingers and we called the waitress and told her. She took it back to the kitchen , then two minutes later the owner came out and he was loud and said there is nothing wrong with your lobster he was talking extremely loud and said you’re not getting your money back so would you like a lot of tailback? I said no it’s not right. I’ve had lobster my whole entire life was disgusting. And he’s holding my lobster in his hands and said would you like this back? I said no it’s disgusting and I would never eat it after you’ve been touching it. But bottom line the OWNER was so unprofessional, no manners, and doesn’t care about his customers when there’s something wrong. Terrible terrible terrible place. I’ve been going to this restaurant many years. It has went down hill since this new owner took over!!! It wasn’t about not paying for my lobster it’s about having fully cooked food bottom line!!! I will post this all over social media cause I was so embarrassed how he acted towards me and in front of everybody that was sitting and eating their dinners. Not a happy customer. And it was my husband and I wedding anniversary 15 years. Not to mention that we had a wedding anniversary there 15 years ago. Ever since they sold it, they went downhill. You are a horrible owner you scream and shout in front of everyone. Let’s get this clear I didn’t eat half of my lobster. I had to bites and the first bite was tasting funny, then I seen in between the lobster. You need to do research on your lobsters!!! This wasn’t my first lobster tail that I ever had. The color of the lobster was a light Gray. You have ruined this restaurant as being an owner. Look at all the reviews about your restaurant . Before you but this place omg the food was outstanding !!! What a shame a business owner doesn’t know how to treat his guest. You aren’t a professional business owner. Yes I’m still posting every where on your bad business .
Well, I hate to waste my breath on this place butttttt…..reason for the one star is because I’m with the family of my grandparents having their 50th wedding anniversary. Absolutely loved my food, no complaints from me honestly the people were nice. As so I thought. At the end of the day, lady made us feel bad, oh well. Just coming on to say your response to my family was absolutely disgusting. You were as rotten and disgusting language was not professional AT ALL. You’re clearly insecure I don’t understand how someone could forget a simple anniversary cake to bring out. I was just super ashamed of the way you people talk to your customers that aren’t pleased. You went on saying how we “couldn’t pay”. Nice try lol it’s cause your service was not what we expected we can pay thanks. Next time if you want a business to succeed past expectations be nice and respectful NO MATTER WHAT. It’s not that hard. -p.s. no disrespect towards yall at all. All good feelings but just speaking my opinion.
Holy crap it was expensive ! Amost $100 per dinner and the worst prime rib ever. So disappointed I talked my husband into getting the prime rib since it was supposed to be the best . It was bland ,steamed in some electric roasting pan so it had no bark, no flavor and literally the toughest cut of meat I ever had even if I managed to get a bite without grizzly tendons it was still tough. I think a chuck roast would have been better. Crammed everyone in one side of the room so you couldn't even walk to the bathroom or bend your arm without elbowing someone. The staff was rude and never bothered to ask how any was or if we needed drinks etc. This was a bucket list place to travel to and came on my birthday. Instead wanted to vomit the whole way home thinking about the $400 ( for 2 people) we just thew in the trash basically.
We went there for Easter dinner, and I hate to say that the prime rib was just ok. For the prices they charge, the prime rib should melt in your mouth. Unfortunately we’ll never go back. We were a group of 6 people; dinner, desert and no alcohol…..just shy of $600. Ouch! I would have rather gone to Russel’s Steak house. Sorry, but we need to be honest. I would never recommend this restaurant.
As per my Facebook review, I'll make it short and sweet. Made reservations for the first time in over 20 years ! We were seated on the patio 10 minutes prior to our actual reservation time . We received by the person who sat us an over sized kid shovel of popcorn 🍿 ( tacky? Idk maybe ) 2 servers and a busboy walked past us several times ! Not a glance not a smile not a nothing !! Feeling ignored I went to the bar to ask if I could order a bottle of wine and beer the bartender, said that I could but somebody would take the order at my table. She was short with her responses and in my opinion rude ! Went back to my table waited for a bit for my drinks and after still zero communication from any server decided we would go elsewhere. As we were in our car looking for other places to eat and make reservations the server was at our window and said " I know this isn't your problem but I have a server having a temper tantrum and was wanting to walk off shift. Etc. he pleaded for us to return but at that point we were done. I desperately wanted that bottle of wine and tomahawk steak but in the end the plastic shovel of popcorn turned out to be the best part of my experience!!
They need to fire whoever is responding to these reviews. And honestly, Charging $9 for sautéed onions they deserve the bad reviews lol
I made a reservation for dinner to celebrate a birthday. In the past my husband and I would celebrate our anniversary and birthdays at Red Osier because we had a pleasant experience with the food quality, ambience, and attentive staff. Unfortunately, this was not our experience for my birthday. We were the first customer in the restaurant when they opened and the restaurant was not busy at all. The waitress brought us brown bread stated it was something new they were trying and wanted customer feedback. She never asked how we liked the bread after serving us. My prime rib tasted like it was yesterday's buffet slice. It was very salty and had more grizzle than meat making it difficult to eat and enjoy. The Roquefort mashed potato's were cold, the lobster pot was good but it would have been better if we had warm melted butter with it. The server brought us the butter and never lit the candle to keep the butter warm. Our server never asked how our dinner was or if we needed anything after serving us our main course. The restaurant was not busy, and there was plenty of wait staff waiting outside the kitchen door laughing and watching the customer's. The restaurant did nothing for my birthday so I don't know why they even bother to ask when you make a reservation. The prices are high, drink prices are not listed on the menu, and the food and service is not worth it. There are plenty of other fine dinning restaurants in the western New York area were a couple can have fine dinning under $100.00 and enjoy the dinning experience while celebrating an event. I am very disappointed with my experience and do not feel I was getting my high dollar money's worth dinning at Red Osier, and based on other reviews I am not the only customer who feels this way.
Used to be incredible food and incredible timely service under the old ownership. Now it has incredible food for insanely overpriced prices with wait times that are so inflated I ended up sitting in the car with our kids who had lost their patience while the rest of the family waited for food and finally ate well over 1 and a half hours after ordering. We were there as a family for my husband's birthday and I had to leave my husband's party because it simply was no longer fair to other diners having to listen to our children because they were seated for two hours, brought their food right away, had well finished eating their own meals, and still no sign of dinner for the party. Two of our party were running late so we ordered and asked for the order to go right in. Instead, they took our order and didn't actually place it until much later without advising us. Two $150 entrees between my husband and I that had to be boxed up and reheated at home. There is no excuse for this kind of LACK of service. We have dined with our children in far fancier and higher end restaurants than this with no issue because of normal cook times. Upsetting to say after years of this being a family favorite that new ownership has made it a place our family can no longer attend. But based off the answers to other's reviews, the owners no longer care about the reputation. Refused to even give a discount on the bill and the snarky waitress still got her absurd tip due to mandatory 20% gratuity for large parties. Here's a picture of one of our $120 meals at home heating up. $18 Oscar sauce next to a fork for perspective of the literal quarter cup they put on there. 32 oz prime rib that was literally RAW when ordered medium rare which is what we have ordered here for years and order everywhere else. *Edited to respond that our guests were thirty minutes behind, NOT over fifty minutes. I don't know of any other restaurant that takes an order to put in and doesn't inform the guests that they're actually withholding the order after they took it. Everything was NOT fine with the rest of our party when we left. My father in law wasn't given his full amount of meat and it had to be corrected on a $100 plate and bills were not accurate. The only reason the rest of the family stayed at the table was because the food wasn't there yet! And then the rest of the time was spent waiting for the checks to be brought and returned while they took the majority of their food home. I never asked for my meal comped. I actually never asked for anything. My mother did after I had to leave to which you denied that and also denied a discount. Free dessert was then offered and yet my husband was sent out being asked if he wanted to PURCHASE dessert and no free dessert was given. Also, as this is not your only poor review on professionalism, I'm not at all worried about our experience. Your diners' experiences and your responses to them speak for itself. I believe professionalism to the point of ownership should be extremely noticeable. My mother asked to speak to the owner so you lied.
Someone in our party did not like their meal and politely mentioned it to the waitress. Unfortunately, it was completely ignored. Im not sure if the manager was made aware, but they never came out. I am shocked at the lack of basic customer service and acknowledgment. Being dismissed made the experience far worse than the food itself. We won’t be returning. The only good thing about the experience was the light display outside. UPDATE: Red Osier based on your comment you couldn’t care less about improving your customers service. And come up with something original. You only respond to negative reviews with snide remarks. Keep on having crappy service! People should take note customers are not appreciated there.
Recently visited Red Osier for the first time, and unfortunately, I found the food disappointing. The service- was excellent. Each staff member we interacted with was professional, friendly, and attentive. We couldn't have been happier with our waitress- she was kind, explained the menu, and provided her personal recommendations and insight. All items came out in a reasonable amount of time. The ambiance of the restaurant is quite dated- however, it is extremely clean and well cared for. I also think the dated interior is perhaps some of the charm and nostalgia of the restaurant- so no problem there. Now on to the food. This place isn't cheap and as such, I have high expectations for when I'm dinning at a restaurant charging a premium. What I ordered: french onion soup, side salad, and salmon over asparagus. The french onion wasn't bad, but nothing special- and seemed under-seasoned- it was missing depth of flavor, however, they did a nice job with the crust and cheese topping. The side salad, very basic, yet the house-made strawberry vinaigrette was quite refreshing and and had a lovely strawberry flavor- without being overly sweet. Also, all of the greens in the salad were fresh. As for the salmon special, although the salmon had a lovely crust, it was overcooked and did not taste especially fresh. There was also a heavy sauce overtop, that not only didn't add to the dish but made everything taste the same. The asparagus were well prepared but lacked any seasoning. I did try some of the other dishes at the table- the lobster bisque had a respectable flavor and generous portion of lobster meat- However, I personally was unimpressed with the other dishes. For these prices, I expected more in terms of the food quality. I'm not someone who routinely leaves negative reviews- and this place certainly is not terrible and nothing was bad enough for me to complain to staff--- however, the food was very mediocre. Update: I initially gave a 3 star review- which I honestly thought was quite generous. I also tried to be fair and balanced, highlighting the good aspects. However, based on the unprofessional response from the restaurant, I will edit that to a 1 start review.
