I have to say a very friendly place with good food, I’m paralyzed and they made me feel right at home, even let me leave my car parked in the handicap parking so I don’t have to roll a long ways from the other parking lot while we went for a couple of hours to ocean beach, 🙏🏾 If your in the area stop by and get fantastic food
Grace was an excellent waitress! Thank you! Great service, awesome food!
Excellent seafood restaurant. Very small place. Even better off season because the crowds from the ferry boat terminal are not around. The specials may seem a little expensive but always well worth it.
A nice little place to stop and grab a bite to eat before you hit the ferry to Fire Island. Closed in the winter time but very active during the Spring and Summer
Been coming here for over 30 years. Best place for steamers. Very pricey. But it is a tradition. Service tonight was fabulous.
Delicious fresh seafood. Excellent service. Recommend lobster roll, oysters and mussels.
One of our favorite places to eat seafood! Great service in a relaxed atmosphere.
Fantastic fish spot especially while waiting for a boat. Favorite items: Clam Barge, Soft Shell Crab, Shrimp/Crab/Lobster Salad, Lobster, steamers, New England Clam Chowder, Lemonade.
Great place for all food, but their specialty is fish. Love their fried clam and oyster platters, and no one matches they're soups!
Delicious food, i had one dozen clams and a lobster roll. I also tried the rocket fuel frozen drink (i think its rocket fuel) i felt it after 1 drink.
We love ❤️ Nicky's great food and the people there are soooo nice!!
Great spot for steamers after the beach. Justin and carlee were great. We enjoyed the food so much and the staff is excellent. Thank you.
I always love it. Great food, icy beer, raw shellfish, great service, the best lobster bisque, fun!
Perfect little spot with the best seafood dishes. Service is wonderful. Food is great! An absolute recommend!
A delicious little place. Cozy. Glad we went before they closed for the season.
The new covered patio is fabulous! We had great service and the food is always delicious! Looking forward to going back.
Everything was very good. My first time there.
Fresh and delicious! The scallops were HUGE! And they definitely dont skimp on anything including the alcohol beverages!!
Great and fast service with awesome seafood. Perfect for grab and go to the ferry!
Great food ...a little pricy ...but best friend shrimp i had in a long time and huge portions ...nice service
Skip the diner, for breakfast this weekend (lunch and dinner, too) and check out the cuisine inside this cozy and casual beach bungalow across from the entrance to the Fire Island ferries off Maple Avenue! Best place to dine in all of Bay Shore! Creative Chef really knows how to cook all egg (with seafood ) dishes(Benedict my fav) well and to order. Pleasing customers and their taste buds is easy with freshest seafood, attentive wait staff , and kindest waitresses! Bar offers wide range of beer, wine, and clever cocktail potions! Stop in for just dessert ; cheesecake and rice pudding I highly recommend. Children's highchairs and menu available, too! Secret ingredients in BEST potato salad still can't fathom but this I know: eat at Nicky's this and every weekend!!
I had 1 hour to kill before catching the ferry to Fair Harbor. I had breakfast here- omelet, sausage potatoes and toast. Service was great and food was delicious. They have large portions! They also allowed my dog to come inside the restaurant as long as he was in his carrier.
No better place to enjoy summer in Long Island. Food is pricey but it’s because you’re on the wharf but the food is good. The bleu cheese mussels sounds terrible but was absolutely incredible. The seafood bisque is great too but it has a uniquely purple color to it.
My wife and I love this place!!! The seafood is always fresh, the service is great and they make some really great drinks, the new outdoor seating is an added bonus if you like to enjoy your meals outdoors.
I come here all the time with my friends, especially in the summer! The cocktails are so good and the food is delicious! I highly recommend it, even if you don't like seafood the owner is extremely easy going and will make your food to order.
Still the best if not better! LOVE the expanded menu. Celebrating my 60th birthday on Mother's Day, this dockside tiny gem was hopping! Thank you, Caitlin, for your friendliness, knowledge of menu items. As well to chef/staff for accomodating my lump crabmeat quesadilla. Above and beyond, so much appreciated! Quick, prompt service especially on such busy day. Dad's fried oysters and cajun fries were abundance for half size, delicious, too. Can't wait to return and enjoy the recently added outdoor space or just grab a cocktail at the bar.
Went here for mothers day, on. Whim and what. Great surprise, our waitress, Alex was awesome, the food was great and the food was good. Mom had the avocado toast with smoked salmon, capers, red onions and dill. I had the carb cakes Benedict, both were delicious. I will be back for sure!!!
I had the softshell crab which was a great experience but the shell is still little solid on any softshell crab. My favorite is regular crab. No fault of theirs-They told me to order the seafood combo. The seafood platter looks amazing and the lemon butter they use is the best ever. Great experience and I have wished many times I could eat there again.
The greatest steamers you’ll ever eat . Always on point. Great service. Classic old world ferry station bar/ restaurant. I drive an hour . Worth it
A little hidden gem with tasty food and great drinks with options for those who don't eat seafood. A bit pricier then you would expect but had great customer service. Id recommend giving this place a visit.
Great folks serving very comforting food. Best crab sandwich on Long Island. The flounder sandwich rocks too... And you must mos def try the donuts! (Dine- in or dine-out).
This place is iconic. Been around for forever, and was around as Porky's forever before that. Great fresh seafood. Great soups. Friendly helpful staff And don't miss the plain donuts if you get the chance...
Seafood Cobb Salad! Chefs 💋 No matter what you order, you can't go wrong with the best seafood in town. And don't sleep on the fresh homade donuts and lemonade
Excellent! Small local Long Island seafood at its best!! We came in from florida and had to get great Long Island seafood and pizza. Nicky’s was awesome! I got the fresh flounder on a bakery fresh Kaiser, wow!! Others got the chowder, great!! Clams casino were also great! Super nice owner and staff! Must visit!!
If you want the freshest , best seafood on the south shore this is your spot! Nothing compares to the food and the family owned business that. Been coming since I was a kid , now come with my family and friends and couldn’t be happier . The steamers r amazing - dip in some broth to clean, eat and heavenly.
Everyone who takes the ferry from Bayshore to Ocean Beach, Fire Island or other communities, knows how wonderful this restaurant is. From the Seafood Bisque and the Clam Chowder (try mixed red and white and take home a quart) to the Clam or Oyster Barge, and even their egg on a roll and coffee everything is outstanding. I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. Dine in or take out quickly from their open window. New outdoor dining area. And try their donuts!
Great place for a quick bite. Really friendly staff. Right across from the ferry to fire Island. Good drinks, good food.
Great place to grab some seafood when dropping off / picking up family who are taking ferry to/from Fire Island.
I had the absolute best experience at Nicky’s Clam bar. The manager Chrissy was so welcoming and informative on the menu. This establishment is family run by exceptional people. My favorite dish was… actually I can’t even think of one because everything you get is better than the next. I’ll be back tomorrow and the day after that.
Took a minute to find this spot tucked away behind the ferry parking lot, but man was it worth it. The location makes it feel like a real hidden gem. And the best fried oysters I’ve ever had. Custardy, oceany goodness.
Stopped here waiting for the ferry with my best mate.. we had oysters & calamari with a few pints of beer. Thoroughly lovely staff who thanked me for my service even though I was a Brit but they overheard our conversation as my best mate was an ex-US Marine. Can’t compliment the oysters enough they were sooo fresh and tasty (some of the best I’ve had in years). Didn’t take any photos which was a shame!!
Literally, the best part of leaving fire island and coming back to "civilization" is that you get to go here. The food is reasonably priced, the people are NOT entitled (such a difference from the denizens who live on fire island), and overall, just a nice place to go. There's a Nicky's restaurant the other side of the pier. This clam bar is so much nicer.
Run, don’t walk, to the best seafood restaurant on LI... Nicky’s Clam Bar. The seafood is the freshest, the portions are huge and every dish Is delicious. Their signature drinks are great and you have to leave room for their scrumptious desserts (the doughnuts are the best). Not only is the food great but the atmosphere is friendly and the staff is incredible. Everyone is friendly, attentive and eager to please. We have eaten at many seafood restaurants but this one is by far the best.
Amazing as always. GREAT steamers. As busy as it was, including both service windows, full bar and all tables full, service was perfect. I wasn't waiting for a ferry, but they got those that were in and out in time, even though there was a wait and some people came 20-30 minutes before the ferry was leaving.
The food was SPECTACULAR! I started with the Clam Bisque, which was New England Clam Chowder. It was creamy, very well seasoned. Next, I had Clams Oreganata. The clams were sweet and they came right out of the shell. For my main entree, I had Fried Oysters, with a baked potato, and it also came with delicious garlic bread. There was also homemade tartar sauce. The Oysters were well cooked, the batter was crispy and the oysters weren't chewy. Overall, a 5 Star meal! High praises for NICKY'S CLAM BAR!!
The staff were so friendly, fun, and helpful and went above and beyond to cheer me up after I missed my ferry! I enjoyed everything and always look forward to visiting when I am in the area!
Any restaurant can have good food, which this place does! Any restaurant can be clean, which the food was fresh and environment super clean. But the service was top notch to boot! I especially value a restaurant that values people that come in with kids, interact with them, and make me feel like I’m not a burden for bringing in kiddos. To boot, the portions and value for the food was top notch. The lobster roll was absolutely overflowing and delicious!
Absolutely WONDERFUL and DELICIOUS! We keep coming back for their steamer clams as they are fabulous! We were 3 people and we ordered 3 orders of steamer clams! So fresh and sweet. Their soft shell crabs are one of my all time favorites as well. Their service is always wonderful. Highly recommended!
Great service. Fish sandwich was tasty. Outdoor dining. Thank you everyone for wearing masks.
Delicious fried oysters & fried shrimps ! Would recommend this location
Decent place, decent place was meant as a compliment apologies if taken in wrong context and thank you for responding back, definitely a staple in bay shore, 100%
NICKYS NOW HAS TWO CLAM BARS I PREFER THE ONE BY THE FERRY. THOUGH THE PRICE IS GETTING KIND OF STEEP. AND THE PORTION SIZE HAS GOTTEN QUITE A BIT SMALLER. BUT THE FOODS DELICIOUS AND HOT . THE STEAMERS WERE GOOD THE CLAMBELLY BOAT WAS GOOD .LOBSTER BISQUE WAS FINE ., SALAD WAS GOOD BUT I MISS THERE FRENCH RELISH DRESSING WE FINNISHE OF THE MEAL WITH MONKEY BREAD AND VANILLA ICE CREAM PRICE WAS ABOUT 55.00 A PERSON BEFORE TIP
If your looking for some delicious seafood give this place a try. I had the fried oysters and whole belly clams, both were very flavorful and cooked perfectly. They also have a nice beer selection.
Pretty good seafood, but expensive. Clam bisque was very tasty, and large portion. Seafood bisque was not that great. We shared a fried seafood platter which was a ton of food. If I was to go again, I would get just clam bisque and scallops. Worth going to if you are missing summer clam shacks.
The raw top neck clams are great! The steamers are yummy. It is a little cold in there, bring a jacket . Great staff. Nice atmosphere. Small and cozy.
Great spot to hit before getting on the ferry. Get to ferry early, sit down at Nicky's and get some comfort food. Chicken tenders are solid.
Lucky to park right in front of Nicky's. during summer. Very GOOD fried clam with fries. Large portion, fried to perfection - dark brown, but not too brown. They did a good job getting my fries well done. I would order again, BUT, my wife did not enjoy the lobster roll. The lobster was chopped or shredded to small unrecognizable pieces. Because the meat was so fine, it held a lot of mayo. so it was mushy and over powers the lobster. No lobster taste. I want to see pieces of lobster meat in my dishes. The larger the better. Here, it's way smaller.... not good. I would avoid.
Pricey but conveniently located near the ferry to fire island!
Food is decent and the only realistic option when you're waiting for a boat, and with that in mind it's still pretty good. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is always fun, at least in the summer.
We stopped here for clams on the half shell and they didn't disappoint. Fresh and delicious. We also ordered steamers and they were prepared in a great broth and a large portion and were also very good. Would highly recommend for clams or for the steamers. The service was also spot on. It's right where you take the ferry to fire Island, but there's plenty of parking out front just for the restaurant people. You can also sit outside if you want but it was chilly out and we sat inside. If you're looking for a fresh clams on the half shell, this is the place to go.
Would go again - I ordered the seafood bisque soup and lobster roll, which comes with fries. The soup has tons of seafood in it. The visual is quite alarming as it is very pink. However, that seems to be due to the heavy pieces of seafood in the soup so it is acceptable. Although the soup is too salty for me which is usually the case for a bisque, the many pieces of seafood swimming through the creamy soup is tasty for a bisque. It tastes more homemade than a chef serving it which is expected given the casual nature of Nicky's Clam Bar. The warm lobster roll was typical and nothing different than normal lobster rolls. The lobster itself was the perfect amount of salty and tender with the juiciness from the butter. However, I expect a good lobster roll to be different and unique than just good lobster on a roll. The bread was fluffy and good. Not just a wonderbread like how many serve lobster rolls. I recommend adding some interesting and unique toppings and sauce to differentiate from just a normal lobster roll.
After returning from Fire Island, it was lunch time and we were all pretty hungry so we decided to have lunch at Nicky's Clam Bar, which is conveniently across from the Fire Island Ferries terminal. Most of us did not drink alcohol but I was curious about the Rocket Fuel, which consisted of rum, cream of coconut, pineapple juice, and ice blended together and topped with amaretto. I was surprised it was not garnished with any fruit such as pineapple and cherries like pictured. It was good but much stronger than the one I had at Le Dock in Fair Harbor. We shared two appetizers - Fried Calamari and Steamed Mussels. The Fried Calamari consisted of lightly breaded calamari fried and served hot of the press, and with marinara sauce. The Mussels were steamed with a garlic herb white wine sauce and served with warm french bread. The sauce was so delicious we had to get more french bread to enjoy. I was surprised the second batch of french bread was not warm like the first one. Some of us ordered soup, either Clam Bisque or Manhattan Clam Chowder. The Clam Bisque was a New England style clam chowder with clams and celery. It was served with oyster crackers. It was creamy and on the blander side. It was not as tasty nor thick as the one at Chowder Bar. All of us ordered Flounder on a Roll, either broiled or fried. The flounder was lightly seasoned with paprika, served with shredded lettuce, slice of tomato, lemon, and tartar sauce on a poppyseed roll. There was a debate on which Flounder on a Roll tasted better. Despite everyone's thoughts, I enjoyed the broiled flounder on a roll but I wish that it was served with a pickle.
Pleasant yet overpriced. Everyone that works there is very friendly but there just seems to be something slightly 'off' about the flavor of their soups.
It is fun to grab a snack and drink before you get on the ferry. The service can be a little slow and it isn't cheap but the portions are big
Didn't love the lobster roll. Meat was overcooked. The bisque was just okay. I think there are much better choices around for seafood.
Food was good but very expensive. $18/cocktail is not worth it. We ordered 2 cocktails, one lobster roll and one seafood bisque and it costs us over $100! Won’t go back.
Only gave this place a three star rating because my wife and I never made it in the place. Parking was 100 percent full with cars driving around but it was a Friday evening so I understand. If you go, get there very early so you can park!
Local long island clam bar that's open seasonally to service primarily the fire island crowds. Went here with the family for the first time, the dining area is small with a bar, there's also outdoor dining with a walk up order bar. The prices were reasonable and the food was good, not great. The service was great as they're used to quick turnover. At one point I had to remove a gnat from my water, not sure if he flew in while I was eating or if it had always been there. Great seafood choices. Go when the ferry isn't running.. parking isn't the best... but I'd go back.
Nicky’s clam bar is a cozy place. We ordered corn chowder, hamburger, lobster roll and chicken fingers and fries for the LO. The hamburger was not good, the lobster roll was 43$ which was not worth that money. The lobster roll had little pieces of lobster and soaked in oil. All I tasted was oil with a taste of lobster. The corn chowder soup was good and chicken fingers were dry.
The staff is really customer oriented and super nice….but the food absolutely doesn’t worth the expensive money you pay for it. Lobster roll super dry White clams linguine swimming in brown dirty water at the bottom of the plate. Not to repeat
This was a takeout order getting off the ferry. They didn't have clam chowder. They did have fish chowder that had more corn starch thickener than seafood. Maybe it was end of season and very little demand? Not expected from a great chowder house.
2 Lobster Rolls bread was stale/ portions are small sweet potato fries tasty but minimal 2 cups of Clam Bisc no flavor. Server never came by & we were his only table at lunch today. $100 very overpriced for less than average food and service.
Clam bar? The fact that this place has clam in the name is a disgrace. My sister and I have never turned down a fried clam roll in our lives, and neither of us cared to make it through more than 1/4 of the clam “barge”. The fried clams were too slimy and had a funky taste, we both agreed. And we both got a more-than-acceptable level of sand crunch as we ate the clams. We are no stranger to clams - these were not good. At first I thought they were just using bad or old oil in the fryer, but we had other fried items - flounder, fries, onion rings, and they all tasted fine. The other stuff is serviceable, nothing was outstanding. But dear God please avoid the clams! This place should be called Nicky’s mozzarella stick bar because the frozen & fried mozz sticks were a better part of our dinner than their preparation of clams.
Was told they were offering breakfast to 11:00. Both times I was there , they refused. Not the most pleasant place to eat. Too bad. There food is pretty good
Got so many questions. Why would seafood bisque be the color of a strawberry smoothie? How long does it take for oyster crackers to become this stale? Why is there so much crab in my “lobster” roll? Not terrible food other than the crackers. But something is off here. Update: made me sick all weekend.
Kind of a mixed experience. Ordered the chowder, raw oysters, steamer clams, lobster roll and tile fish special. Chowder was a bit bland however oyster were very fresh. The most egregious part of my meal was the amount of SAND in the steamer clams. You could legitimately see visible sand throughout the dish and a nice little sandbar at the bottom of the bowl. The flavor and texture of the clams was good but holy cow were they sandy; perhaps they don't know how to purge clams? When i brought it up to the manager she suggested i "wash them off in the provided broth" bizarre...The lobster roll was good and the tile fish special tasted good but was overcooked. Overall I'd look elsewhere for seafood dinner, perhaps white cap fish market
Called in my order and came when I was asked to pick it up. They had no record of my order. First guy was helpful in trying to figure out what happened. I was told I would have to wait an additional 35 minutes for one of the meals specifically since the order was never given to the kitchen . Not ideal but I got over it. I spoke with a Second Gentleman about the specifics of my order before he tried to run it back. Didn’t seem like he was listening. Got home and 2 of the 3 orders were wrong and missing key items. Absolute bummer of a situation. We loved the place so at some point we will give it a third shot since the first time was really great. Unfortunately probably not anytime soon after this.
Greaselke food and strange pink soup. I wouldn’t come back. I had fried clam barge with side salad with blue cheese dressing. I got the bowl of soup because the server said it was good. They put pink dye in the soup and was not good. I son ordered pasta with butter and sauce on the side. They forgot the butter and came back with melted butter. He said it “was butter water taste.” Chocolate ice cream was very good. Maybe a good place for a beer prior to going on the ferry
Clams were half full and had hard chunks. The soup was watered down and flavorless. The atmosphere/service was nice, shame the food had to be so bad
There is nothing worse then overpaying for food poisoning. Ate here while waiting for my ferry to Fire Island Thursday night, spent all day friday & sat with food poisoning from that chicken sandwich.
Went for the first time last night. Ordered a couple of apps which were mid. Then dinner came I had the broiled oreganata combo, overcooked and no flavor I ate it because I felt bad in the sense that I was sending back my wife’s Ahi Tuna dinner that she couldn’t even cut with a knife there was so much connective tissue in the piece my wife didn’t touch it. Brought the tuna to the waiter’s attention and his responses were a quick laugh with a solution for him to bring a sharper knife. Lol. As we asked for the bill I looked after I paid and asked why didn’t he take off the tuna that was returned, he then replied he couldn’t do that. When asked to speak to a manager I was told no manager was there. Very disappointed will advise everyone to definitely no eat at this establishment as the food is terrible and the lack of service was unexceptable. And way overpriced
Very disappointing! Had their clam bisque which lacked flavor and tasted more like flour than clam. The mayo roll I mean lobster roll was just that mostly mayo. Very pricy for poor quality food. Do not recommend it.
We just ordered a lobster roll and a calamari. The order was $74.25. I picked up the food in a bag with handles so there was really only one way to pick it up without instructions. And when I got to my car there was oil leaking from the bag and I found out that the food was on its side. Upon calling customer service, the response was ‘oh so you spilled the food?’ Ok let’s move past that, the food was terrible. The fries were cold, soggy and unsalted. The fried calamari was not even fried I think. It was also cold and soggy and I think I can safely say the worst calamari I have ever had. I am actually really worried about food poisoning and will be keeping an eye out for that. But once again the customer service response was we didn’t pick it up quick enough. Even if that were the case, what’s the amazing part is that they didn’t even give us an ETA and so we had to wait in the car for it. The call to the customer service just yielded insults. I cannot believe that I paid 74 dollars to a restaurant to be treated like this. I can’t get my money back because they refuse to be reasonable or come up with any solution better than 15% off my next order, not even off this order which would basically still only cover for calamari 😂. So I only hope this review makes you not go to this restaurant. Nicer people deserve your money. Response to owner: Because i cant do it any other way so i am just editing it here. As i mentioned in the review, there was no ETA given to me over phone. And saying you haven't had bad reviews in 33 years is besides the point since I paid 74 dollars for my food, not some other customer in the past 33 years. My food was bad and i complained and all the customer service did was insult us. this is beyond a problem of bad food. Its a problem of you choosing to be unhelpful and unsympathetic to a customer's issue. When i first called, I made sure to talk as politely as i could as this was a place i was actually excited to try but if you insult me on the phone when I am making a complaint that to me is unacceptable.
Newsday advertised it as the place to go for steamers not much you can do wrong with steamers but the price was $49 for the small portion or $59 for a larger one ( never paid that much for steamers) that did not come with anything no bread or fries, service was ok but felt like because of their location they don’t care for repeat customers, I certainly won’t be going back
