This is a very nice place. Quaint is and adequate description. Went for a quick breakfast. Was really impressed with the quality of the food. I ordered an egg sandwich... which i can say the eggs were cooked perfectly. The sandwich was spot on. Friends ordered Berni's Breakfast Bowl and Breakfast Combo.... i am bit particular when it comes to scrambled eggs but those were moist without being runny. The homefries were seasoned well and not overcooked or mushy. These sound like simple things to get right but many places miss the mark. On a side note, not sure where they get their coffee, but it is delicious. I pride myself on my taste in coffee.... a good cup with some cream is ideal.... and they kept filling my cup!! God, I love that!!! If i had one complaint, a friend asked for glass of water and it took three tries to get it. The younger server seemed to be lost in his own world, but i chalk this up to age and lack of experience!! Good help is tough to find these days!! I have friends that have gone for lunch and tell me burgers are a must try item!!! Go here if you want good food and atmosphere without breaking the bank!!

My parents discovered this little gem when visiting me from NJ, and we absolutely love it! The blueberry pancakes(short stack) are always our choice for breakfast, and you definitely don't want to finish dinner without a slice of pie(apple is one of our favorites). I love the meatloaf, too. The service has always been great when I have dined there, and I am so glad they are also on Door Dash so that I can continue to support them throughout the pandemic. I am thrilled to be a returning, happy customer, and I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

I just moved out to the area and took a Sunday morning drive just exploring Montauk highway. Got Hungry around 8am and found this place on the road with my girlfriend. We sat at the counter because it was busy at the tables (a good sign) and were treated warmly from the second we walked through the door to the signature on the check. Perfect spur of the moment stop on a Sunday morning. All of the staff was very warm, welcoming and professional, particularly the young man at the counter. We're definitely coming back!

I judge a breakfast place based on their Eggs Benedict, so every time I go to a new breakfast spot, that's what I order. Let me tell you, I was NOT disappointed. Perfectly cooked eggs, hollandaise was on point, and the home fries were perfect as well. Ordered the short stack for my daughter and I haven't seen my almost 4-year-old eat that much in a while! This establishment was truly great. We all left full and happy, and the prices are reasonably low for all the food we received. If you haven't been here yet, make sure you make a trip down. P.s.- For those Islipians who miss Poppy's breakfasts, this should be your new spot!!

Quaint, quick, delicious, cheap and no frills breakfast. Workers were very kind and food was delicious! I usually go to ihop when I go out for breakfast but honestly this food is of much better quality and for so much cheaper! (Even the pancakes are better 🤭) Excited to come back here for dinner or lunch!

This place is exactly what you want in a breakfast spot. The food was fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the home fries were crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the pancakes were light and fluffy. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. Coffee stayed full, and our food came out quickly even though they were busy.

Small little breakfast and lunch spot. I love the farmers omelet while my grandfather had the western omelet both with home fries and toast. They do have a cozy feeling inside and a nice bar for seating if you like that or are sitting alone.

What a find! When a little snow scares off lesser cafes from opening, Hometown pulls up the slack. Old school rugged mindsets and hearty meals for more than reasonable prices. I'm glad my usual breakfast stop was closed, Hometown is my new favorite! Eggs bacon toast and coffee done right. Came out fast after ordering. You cant go wrong. Fabulous service. I noted everyone knew customers names as they entered. That is a great sign. It was like being at an aunts home or at Grandma's. Cozy place with a fireplace going too! Forget the diners, hometown is the perfect stop.

I placed a simple order over the phone for takeout. 3 egg omelette and a plain toasted bagel with cream cheese. Placing the order was very easy and the young man taking my order answered all my questions and was very polite. The eggs were perfectly scrambled, toast was just right. No complaints, will be back soon!

I went back a few days ago, I had egg in a hole I believe its called white buttered toast with fried egg in the hole to get two and a side of breakfast sausage. The best breakfast I have ever seen. One day I will move to New Hampshire, or Vermont, until then, when I want to have a local breakfast with my neighbors there is our Hometown Cafe! A local breakfast (and lunch and dinner too) place for a quick bite to have a nice meal and hear the talk of the day! Prices are fair, food is good, service is friendly! Been coming here since Day 1 and to Poppy’s before then...stop by!

Went for breakfast on a sat about 10am , food was good and so was the service, only complaint very noisy and tables were a little cramped together , had to move my chair so people next to us could be seated. Understand they want to get as many as possible. Place is small. Probably try it again

Very hometown! It is set back on the lot so much that I have past it almost daily for 3 months and didn't realize it was there. I ran in to try it out on a week day at lunchtime. There is plenty of free parking and upon entering I was greeted and seated right away. The inside is dark and has older wood paneling of some kind on the walls. The tables and chairs are a 1990's style and there are some old plaques hung on the walls. The lighting is also dim so it is not a bright sunny place. There is a flat screen TV hung where everyone could see it but not hear it and there was no closed captions so you could not really tell what was going on. It was a hot day but very comfortably air conditioned. The waitress took my order right away and it took only a few minutes to get my food. I ordered a BLT which came with a large pickle slice, wonderfully fresh, thick cut fries served nice and hot and the BLT on thick sliced toasted White bread. This was made with honest to goodness REAL bacon, not the microwave stuff. It had very thick cut slices of real summertime homegrown tomatoes a d cold, crispy fresh lettuce. My only dislike was that it was slathered in real mayo (which others may love). A great thick fresh sandwich! It was served with an icy cold coke..yummm. One thing they can Improve is the cleaning I would not say it was dirty, but as I picked up the salt & pepper glass shakers I felt as if they had not been run through the dishwasher in a very long time and the same with the ketsup glass bottle. When I left there was a couple pieces of crumpled papers and napkins right by the door. Food A+, cleanliness a C.

The interior is nice. There is a ton of wood paneling. The employees are all high school/college kids. They are all very nice. The food is just okay. It's not bad but I probably won't go back.

Younger servers are terrible. Maybe dont know better. Teach them, eye contact. Maybe a thank you, maybe even stop by table. Food nothing special but not awful. Think they survive due to years in business. This is what happens when you inherit a decent business that's been around a long time the old-timers keep coming but food ,servers and customer treatment suffer. I guess owners do a better job when they start and have to build their business

I wanted to love this place, but I just couldn’t. The water had an awful taste, they serve the same syrup that school cafeterias use (yuck!!), and the pancakes were hard and cold. The bacon was over cooked, but the sausage was good. Home fries lacked flavor and were burnt. Cute place with good service, but unfortunately the food is very subpar. Three stars is generous and based mainly on the service and homey feel of the place. I could not get over the junky syrup they serve - for a “home town cafe” it was garbage syrup that made the bad pancakes that much worse. Will definitely not be returning - much better places out there for breakfast.

We used to go a lot. I have a problem with the scrambled eggs. They are not scrambled. It's like they are making it like an omelet. And seems like portions are getting smaller. Also use to get to sausages, now only one. Went back today, March 8, 2018. Sausage gravy and biscuits made with Italian sausage, wish I knew that before I ordered it. Not a fan of Italian sausage. Love traditional breakfast sausage with biscuits and gravy.

Ordered the breakfast burrito and strawberry pancakes. The burrito wasn’t warmed up with the tortilla so it was soggy and the cheese was cold. Then the pancake was very flat with very little fluff. The pancake kind of reminded me of when someone makes a pancake from scratch for the first time and they don’t put enough flour or something. Service was moderate. Improvements could be made

I’m not here to say this place is bad or anything like that, the reason for my 2 star is because I went here for the first time and my experience was poor, now I understand this place was packed when I went there. Anyways I waited for 20 mins not bad. We get a table and did not get proper service, first the person that was our waiter did not seem to want to be there, second we ordered coffee but then they did not have cream so the waiter very normally went to another table and grabbed someone else’s cream, and I mean to me this would be super normal if it was a container but this was in an open container and not only that there was like too spoons of cream in this container and I was super annoyed by that, but ok I still wanted to support the local business. We waited like 30 minutes then the waiter comes and he says and I kid you not, he said “I’m sorry there was a mix up and I didn’t put in your order” this was super disrespectful for me and I just said no we are leaving and he goes in to say that he will give us a discount, and I still wanted to leave, my wife says we can order it to go with the discount, then when I go to pay for the food to go it was a full price order 🤦🏽‍♂️ by this time I just wanted to get as far as possible from this waiter, so I end up leaving and when I get home the food seemed to be made in a rush and all over the place. In conclusion I don’t think this place is worth the time if you are trying to do a quick breakfast for four, if you are willing to have the patience then be my guest.

Walked into this restaurant with my sister & felt like I was walking into a sauna! Many people there, but no a/c running. I was sweating by the time I sat down to a table. NOT GOOD! If their a/c is not working while it was over 85* degrees outside, it should not be opened till they get it fixed! We left this restaurant!

We usually go to okanee.but rher was no parking so we decided to try the hometown cafe well it was horrible rite from the start they sat us near the back door so when every time some one came in or out it would slame shut annoying!! The most bland food I’ve ever had. I don’t know how this place has 4.6 stars. It doesn’t make any sense. They don’t even put salt and pepper to the food? Are you out of your mind? This place was a joke. If you wanna eat the worst breakfast of your life then go for it.

Waitress was super friendly food was good until my plate was brought out with a non-flying insect on the plate. We sat outside but there were no other bugs walking or near the table where we were sitting. The insect was small and crawled out from underneath the eggs. I ordered the 3 eggs, kielbasa with sweet potatoes fries. After realizing the bug was on the plate only 10% into the meal I immediately advised the server who then took my plate. I lost my appetite and didnt want a replacement. I just wanted this item removed from my bill since it clear came out with the meal and wasnt even enjoyed or eaten. The server advised us that the manager stated that this is the risk u take when u eat outside and would not remove it from the bill. This my friends is horrible management on part of this restaurant. Speaking from someone in the hospitality field this is a big mistake. This was our first time eating here and because of poor management not poor service but poor management, will most definitely be our last!

Waked in on Saturday afternoon about 12:50. We sat down place was very empty. Waitress came by with dirty paper menus but fine No big deal. She asked what we wanted to drink my wife asked her what type of teas do they have and she said unsweetened or Snapple. My wife asked if they were any flavor snapples she said no just regular ok then instead of asking or saying what type of drinks they offer she said I’ll give you a few mins and walked away only taking my daughters drink order and mine. Mind you the menu has no drinks on it. So after 4 mins she came back dropped off our drinks and left again. About 7 mins after that she took our order it is not busy maybe 12 guest in total here. So we place our order and my wife asked for the regular Snapple ice tea. She finally came back with it and a glass of ice. About 14 mins later our food came ok great. I ordered a simple grilled chicken sandwich but what was on the bun was the thinnest grilled chicken I have ever seen put it this way the slice of tomato was thicker. My daughter orders chicken fingers and fries and the chicken was over cooked dried. My wife order the Philly cheesesteaks well one it had American cheese and too it was so watery and no flavor at all appears to be frozen slice meat not fresh. So to the point where my wife did not eat she it. You would think that someone would ask or say something since you have not touched your food is something wrong nope not a single peep from our waitress. Took our bill paid and left never going back again. I try to support local places but this is one I can not.

I have no idea who is rating this place on here , maybe it’s friends and family of the owners or maybe not as of recent as I had went . I first went with my girlfriend about two weeks ago. I ordered the bacon cheddar bomber. It seemed it was some type of pressed chicken with not much chicken on the sandwich. My girlfriend had ordered one of the salads and said it was ok but three small strips of chicken on it. Not to be to discourage as we only were there once. We wanted to be fair and give it another try and order something else. We went again two days ago. I ordered there home town burger and my girlfriend ordered the fish and chips. My burger was a patty that tasted like it was one of those frozen patties , I’m sure many know what I’m talking about. It was horrible. When my girl friend got the fish and chips , as soon as I seen it I could see it was not going to be good. If you have had fish and chips before , most will come out kinda puffy . This was flat like a chicken nugget , which wouldnt have matter if it was good. After tasting it you could tell it was one of the cheaper brand already cooked , frozen product.. terrible. I do see someone responds to these reviews from hometown cafe . So my question is and would like your reply ... is your burger a frozen patty or not are there made there from scratch ,Do you think your fish in the fish and chips menu is of a good quality ? Is it kinda on the flat side when most have a nice puffy outside to it.. I’m sorry for the bad review and maybe it could be your quality has gone down for some reason. I wish you the best .. thank you though for taking the time to read and maybe responding. I would give a place at least two visits if the first was not good .. I did .. I would like to say on the other hand , I give your staff a A+ in their service and hospitality , great staff ..

I wish I could give this place zero stars. We were told the wait would be 25 minutes, but we ended up waiting 40 minutes instead. To make matters worse, the host seated two parties who arrived after us at tables with four chairs, even though we had the same number of people. It felt like we were completely overlooked. When we were finally seated, we found out they didn’t have corned beef hash, which was one of the main reasons we chose this place. The server didn’t seem apologetic or even remotely interested in helping us find alternatives. The overall service was just terrible—slow, inattentive, and disorganized. Definitely not worth the wait or the hassle. Save yourself the trouble and go somewhere that actually values its customers.
