I've passed this place for decades. Decided to take a friend there for his birthday. We were not disappointed. It was busy for a Monday evening so that should tall you something. Seating was fast and service was awesome. we ordered the Franciscan cut of prime rib. Dinner included a great side salad, choice of potato, and a delicious sourdough round on the table. We will definitely be back. Great service and delicious food is the cornerstone of the San Franciscan. If you want great prime rib, this is the place!!
The San Franciscan is renowned for its flavorful prime rib, a reputation that has developed over the years. Tonight, our social club had dinner here and found that despite reviews advising reservations, communicating with staff about our large party of 13 was quite difficult. However, the service provided was good and the wait staff attentive, the food was superb aligning with their overall reputation.
Stopped into The San Franciscan for a drink after not being there in a while and was honestly really pleasantly surprised. The vibe felt cooler and more alive than I remembered, almost like the place is having a little revival. Normally the bartenders there tend to be older (which is totally fine), but it was kind of refreshing to see a a younger, blonde guy behind the bar with casual hipster scruff this time. He made me one of the best drinks I’ve had in a long time, too. I’ve always liked this place, but this visit made me excited about it again. Still classic, still cozy, just with a fresher cooler energy.
This is an exceptional steak house. It has a great menu, delicious food, and fabulous service. The most amazing part is that you can still afford to order a good steak here as their prices are reasonable.
Classic steak joint, known for their prime rib and chilled salad plates. Service is always great, stiff drinks, no frills, regulars at the bar and karaoke on specific nights a week. This place is a South Bay staple and you feel welcome and at home when you dine here.
Shortly before Christmas, had prime rib at San Franciscan. A little more than a week earlier, had prime rib at Lawry's. The San Franciscan's was better. More flavorful. The smallest cut bigger than the smallest cut at Lawry's. And, of course, considerably less expensive. Was seated right away, not directed to the bar first even when tables are available to spend money, as is the custom at Lawry's.
I came here for the prime rib and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The prime rib at San Franciscan in Torrance was cooked perfectly — incredibly tender, juicy, and full of rich flavor. You can tell they really know what they’re doing with classic steakhouse-style cooking. The portion was generous, and the meat was so soft it practically melted in my mouth. The seasoning and au jus were spot on, and every bite was satisfying. This is the kind of place you come to when you want a real, no-nonsense, old-school prime rib experience done right. The atmosphere also adds to the experience — cozy, classic, and comfortable, like a true neighborhood steakhouse that’s been perfected over the years. Service was friendly and efficient, which made the whole meal even better. If you’re in the South Bay and craving prime rib, this place is a must. I’ll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
This is a great local restaurant for enjoying prime rib. Reservations are accepted by phone only, and walk-in guests should expect over a 30-minute wait. The steak has a deep, rich flavor reminiscent of a long-established steakhouse, and it melts in your mouth the moment you take a bite(medium). Among the steakhouses I’ve visited recently, this is one of the best. If you’re looking for a high-quality steak at a reasonable price, this place comes highly recommended.
By far, the BEST prime rib I've ever had! Absolutely loved everything there. Especially the fresh, hot, sourdough bread they have.
Sat in a booth near the bar. Atmosphere is old school. Betty was a great waitress. Cocktails were stiff and the prime rib was really good. Not much more than I can add. The San Franciscan cut was more than enough. I brought home left over prime rib for some street tacos the next day.
To be honest, I haven't had such a delicious steak in a long time. Even though I'm in America, it is hard to find something that is so good just anywhere. No sauce was added, just a sprinkle of salt, allowing the meat to bring out its perfect flavor. I was so lucky to find it here tonight!
I've been told about this place for a while now. They have a great selection of Americana style food. The prime rub is amazing. The shrimp cocktail was tasty as well. I would definitely recommend visiting if you want a hearty, tasty and filling dinner. It's priced well too.
Food was excellent. Prime rib perfectly cooked, generous lobster tail. Eggplant parmesan was the best we ever had. Split pea soup is outstanding. Generous portions, great service. Exceptional value.
There is a reason why The San Franciscan Steakhouse has been in business since 1963. It has survived the Vietnam War, disco,stock market crashes,recessions, weather disasters,the dark days of the Pandemic. My husband took me here for our first time to celebrate my 60 years circling the earth and WOW, it did not disappoint! CHRIS, our server, was Excellent, attentive, handling HOT potato foil without batting an eye, he could not have been nicer! Other staff members were friendly as well. The food speaks for itself, tender Prime Rib, sitting next to a loaded baked potato as big a man's hand. Sourdough bread so good, it'll make you want to weep for joy! 5 grilled shrimp big enough for 2 people. Perfectly grilled rib eye steak. Btw, the BATHROOM was Lovely,clean,pleasant scented! L💙VE the old school vibe.
I honestly don’t know why I haven’t written a review for The San Franciscan before now—because I’ve been here several times and it’s always been great. Normally, I just hang out at the bar, which is always a solid vibe. A couple of weeks ago, I came in with my parents, sat in the dining room, and had full service—amazing all around. Today I had to stop by to pick up my Michael Kors sunglasses (shoutout to the staff for holding them for me for two whole weeks 🙌🏽—I love them for that!). While I was there, I grabbed a seat at the bar and actually had food this time. Let me just say… amazing. Great service, great food, great people. All, all, all good. One of the best places in LA 😎 Cannot have another rib other than the one you tried. Order 1/2 oz for one person but it's really enough size for me to fill up the stomach and 150% satisfied. The homemade Thousand Island dressing with salad was awesome. I'd like to purchase it to bring back home. We walked in on the day without reservation at 8pm on Friday night and managed to get the table after 30mins.
Wonderful atmosphere and insanely good steak! I recommend the ribeye with baked potato and chocolate cake or carrot cake..bartender and staff are like family to you. The red elegant leather booths are so huge and Sinatra-like. The bar is my favorite to eat at. Like stepping back in time to a more relaxed vibe. This place is so welcoming and warm! The steak, my god the steak! So good you will eat the fat and lick the plate! Great bar and easy to get lost in here talking to just about anyone! Highly recommend.
We started with a dirty vodka martini in celebration of our anniversary. There was no skipping on the vodka in that drink! Delicious meal. I had the filet and my boyfriend had the rib-eye. Both were cooked to perfection. The salad was just lettuce with a slice of tomato but the dressings were delicious. I had balsamic & my boyfriend had ranch. We shared a piece of cheesecake for dessert. No plate during this meal was left unclean. They almost looked licked clean. The meal was that good!
Great service, high quality food and old school atmosphere that was the perfect touch. My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and we were happy with everything. Will definitely come back to try more of the menu
We've been to this restaurant many times over the years. If you want the best Prime Rib, this is your to go place! I've had their other steaks which were simply the best. The Franciscan staff are great, never had any bad experiences there. This place is a combination of a bar and restaurant and a little dated, but I'm there for the prime rib. The price and value is pretty good.

Big portions, especially the ribs. Free bread fills you up quick. Food’s good but not crazy. Make a reservation or you’ll be waiting.
Like stepping back in time the moment you step in. Great relaxed atmosphere. Ordered the bone in rib eye and sides included the salad and chips. Steak was cooked perfectly medium rare as requested, very tender and flavourful. Had the roasted prime rib on the previous visit, also a highlight on the menu and thoroughly enjoyed it. Been coming here for years and have always had a great time and left super satisfied. However, 2 days later and i'm still sitting on the toilet pretty much, taking a piss out of my ass. So we came to the San Franciscan for my mother in laws birthday. Everything was going great. We had a great server, atmosphere was lively as usual, and the food taste and mega prime rib servings were just as I remembered. We had a great evening and after an almost $500 bill after tip, we all left with stuffed stomachs and we still had to get boxes to go for our left over food. The problem started about 3am I noticed something wasnt sitting right in my stomach. I woke up to a bad stomach ache and my body was telling me I had to use the restroom. That's pretty much when the diarrhea started. From that point it was pretty much every 30 minutes to an hour that I found myself having to rush to the toilet......this is not fun to deal with while at work! To make matters worse, my wife was experiencing the same problem. So here we are 2 days later and it's Saturday morning and i'm writing this review. We both have been playing musical chairs with the toilet. We asked the other family if they got sick and only 1 other person said she had other than hard poop, but she's pretty sensitive so we dismissed that. Everyone at our table had pretty much the same plate, prime rib with a salad. My wife and I did not. We had the CHILI BEAN SOUP instead of salad. When the soup came out it was lukewarm and hot in some spots like it was microwaved. I just stirred it around and even after, it was well on the colder side. My wife even mentioned it but it tasted good so we both just shrugged it off and ate it. If you've made it this far you probably know eating it wasnt a smart idea. So long story longer....My wife and I both got Clostridium perfringens food poisoning from eating the lukewarm Chili bean soup. So for getting food poisoning you get 3 stars San Franciscan. Up your game and make sure your cooks know safe food handling practices.

I think this place is overrated. Our food was delicious but our waiter was horribly unprofessional. First, she refused to repeat salad options to one of the members of the party because “she already said that” and later she forgot to bring one of the orders. Her behavior was rude and arrogant. The light in the restaurant is extremely dim (which you can see on the pictures of food). It’s very uncomfortable to read the menu. I will not come back here again. I do not recommend this place.
