I love when I have the chance to get takeout here. Tasty food, reasonably priced, quick turnaround, and kind staff. It’s my favorite place on the upper east and for a good reason
This place is a hidden gem. Nothing fancy but some of the best Szechuan in NYC. Definitely go for the Kung Pao if you're undecided. The noodles are fantastic too.
Amazing food and very reasonable prices. Would especially recommend the Young Chow Fried rice, crispy chicken in garlic and the egg drop soup.
The food and service are excellent. You never feel rushed. Their dumplings are really good. I will come back next time I am in the area.
This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the city. They are just good and authentic! Their braised fish fillet with cabbage and chili is like what I had when I was in China. And they give you so much food proportion-wise!
Do not trifle with their spices. Very authentic but a bit salty. Would recommend ordering a plate of veggies with any entree and definitely try their Dan Dan Noodles. Price: A- Taste: A-
This was my second visit to A-Jiao, and it was just as great. I love celebrating Father's day, with my husband, and children, enjoying a little bit of our delious food with each other. Great for a family gathering, or for a small one. The woman who attended us was very friendly, attentive to our needs, and most of all very kind.
Consistently best Dandan noodles and Mapo tofu I have ever had. Pleasant, uncrowded restaurant with kind service and reasonable prices.
To this day the best chong qing chicken i’ve ever had. i’ve tried almost every szechuan restaurant in portland and it’s all mid
Food was delicious and served quickly. Hostess and server are amicable, attentive and courteous. Menu pricing of dishes was very reasonable. Overall a delightful and pleasant experience!
I love A Jiao and not because it’s literally 2 min away from my place, but because this restaurant is the only true sichuan restaurant you can find in UES. Admittedly, I’ve only done pickup and delivery with them but their mapo tofu is to die for! A bit spicy, but that’s the way I like it - and they even make a great non-meat mapo if you request it. Also, they are always so kind and welcoming. My other favorite dishes from them are: Chicken chow-fun, shrimp fried rice. I wish them at least another 10-12 yrs especially during these difficult Covid times. ❤️ A Jiao
I didn't think there would be such a good Szechuan Restaurant on the Upper East Side. Everything we had there was terrific complete with the taste of Sichuan peppercorns. Also had excellent har gow and scallion pancakes. Very generous portions too!
Very good and consistent Chinese - Szechuan restaurant on the UES. Had the ma po tofu which is pretty damn good and so is the beef noodle soup thing.
Ordered for pick up for the first time, totally worth it. Decided to call the restaurant and the woman who answered the call was extremely polite. The food was great! Genuinely recommend. Will be my new go to spot, def try it out!
The food was amazing. It was my first time with Sichuan food and I'm usually not into spicy. I ordered from options that indicated less or mildly spicy. I had calamari, which weren't your typical rings, but to me it was enjoyable, especially with rice. Speaking of, it was brown jasmine and I prefer short grain rice so I was happy. It was also cooked to perfection. We ordered steamed veggies from the light cuisine menu as well and it came with non spicy brown sauce. It was a great match up with spicy appetizers (along with rice). For dessert was also my first time tasting warm rice balls with red bean inside. I really liked it and the temperature was just right. All this was ordered for pick up though. However the place inside was cozy while I waited. I could tell that it was cared for because of real plants rather than fake ones. The only negative aspect was the woman who was quite condescending to me. She did not even ask me to sit while I waited for the food to be ready. The only thing she uttered to me was "one moment" twice to my inquiries even though I was notified via the App that it was ready and had to wait for a bit. I also had family waiting for me outside. I let it go at first but then someone else came and I noticed a different demeanor from her toward them. I was not pleased and could tell that it could be the reason the restaurant was empty and people only ordered take-out since the food is delicious.
This food is delicious! I used to live in China and ate Sichuan food all the time. Once I discovered this restaurant, I automatically remembered the taste of authentic Sichuan food. The food is so unique and you can't get this flavor anywhere else in Manhattan, aside from Chinatown. You MUST try the steamed fish, the crunchy noodles, the flat noodles, and overall every single item on the menu. The service is amazing, the waiter doesn't rush us when we are ordering off of the menu and gives great recommendations. She treats us with such genuine kindness, that we would come here every week or every day. Overall, the service is amazing and the food is truly the best!
I had the BEST beef Chow Fun I've EVER had in the city and I am very picky. Very comfortable place and friendly waitstaff. Our meals came exceptionally fast which means they came very hot which I love. My friend had problems ordering and the waitress was very kind to him which I will remember. I have already returned!
Loved this little spot! Very clean, pleasant dining area with friendly, welcoming staff. Food is well prepared and presented. They appear to have a strong Asian clientele, some of whom were ordering from the menu in what I imagine was Sichuan. Absolutely loved the fried dumplings…thin crust, flavorful interior and perfectly fried to a light crisp! Dan Dan noodles are tasty too! Looking forward to a return.
I walked by this place for years, always believing the negative reviews — and now I seriously regret it, because A-Jiao is so good. Their lunch special is generous and comes with either a spring roll or soup. The hot and sour soup was one of the best I’ve had, and the General Tso’s was actual chicken, not mostly breading like so many places do now to cut costs. The indoor seating area is surprisingly nice and perfect for a casual meal. I’ve ordered A-Jiao three times in the past month, and before this I’d ordered Chinese food from other spots maybe three times in all of 2025. Honestly, I’ve surprised myself by how much I like A-Jiao.
The best combination of affordability with quality, service, and authentic cuisine. Highly recommend, tasty.
Flavorful, authentic, delicious Szechuan Chinese food! I came in at 8:30pm and was the only one dining. The waitress was very kind and recommended me the Dan Dan noodles when I was undecided on a second appetizer to go with my dumplings. Great food and great service
Hey there hungry folks and foodies of Google Maps, have I got a tasty review for you! If you're in the mood for some mouth-watering Chinese cuisine that'll have you and your taste buds doing the happy dance, then look no further than this hidden gem of a restaurant. Let's start with the General Tso's Chicken - this dish is an absolute knockout! The chicken is perfectly cooked and coated in a crispy, tangy sauce that's just the right amount of spicy. It's so good, I could eat it every day and never get tired of it. And don't even get me started on the house special fried rice - this stuff is magical! Each grain of rice is fluffy and perfectly seasoned, with chunks of tender meat and veggies mixed in. It's like a party in your mouth with every bite. And let's talk about the atmosphere - the restaurant is always spotlessly clean, with a cozy and inviting ambiance that makes it the perfect spot for a romantic date night with my lovely wife. So, to sum it up - if you're in the mood for some seriously delicious Chinese food that'll have you coming back for more, then do yourself a favor and check out this restaurant. You won't regret it!
The twice cooked pork, sautéed string beans, and yangzhou fried rice here are all pretty good. The owner is very sweet and the service is super quick. Glad to have such a homey chinese spot on the upper east side.
Authentic food. Reasonable price. Definitely revisit.
Everything was so so good. We especially loved the grilled pork rib and spicy sauce tofu… superb 😋
Authentic Sichuan Chinese food. Ordered mapo tofu and eggplant, only $15 each including tax. Lunch special for $10.
Lunch menu deal is amazing! Good price, good food. Mapo tofu was great. Very kind staff.
A neighborhood asset! Delicious food in a pleasant space, served by a cheerful staff. Their delivery service is also excellent if you're just staying in.
Awesome place to get chinese food. Nice staff and good food

Awesome place to get chinese food. Nice staff and good food
The ambiance is nice, the staff is excellent ( very attentive) Most if all...the food was DELICIOUS!!
Delicious food; best to take away, as the atmosphere in the restaurant is not good. But owners super kind and prices very good.
Wow I was so pleasantly surprised. We just went out to a neighborhood Chinese joint but this one is so reasonably priced AND the portions are ENORMOUS. We definitely over ordered.
I've been coming to this restaurant very frequently since December of 2023, and I've always enjoyed it a lot! It's very clean and peaceful inside, the staff is chill and friendly, and the food tastes amazing and is also reasonably priced. Sometimes I come alone and sometimes I come with my family and it's still absolutely an enjoyable restaurant.
No frills, amazing food. Highly recommend for a great meal
Not the expected Chinese take out joint. This restaurant welcomes you to an inviting dine-in setting. The kitchen is magical. Everything coming out of there is perfectly prepared and delicious. A pleasing experience, without having to visit Chinatown. My recommendations: Wonton soup and Young Chow fried rice.
Very consistent, solid Sichuan food in UES. Vibes are okay, nothing great, but the food is great & affordable and the service is friendly. Been here ~4-5 times and have had a great food experience each time.

Delicious excellent food. Prices are typically Upper East Side. For those who love spicy food, this is excellent. The waiters cannot speak one word of English. So just point to the item that you want.
The name represents 'Spicy Food' and spicy good it is. Very good flavorful authentic cuisine with both variety and flair. Love the sesame noodles, scallops with black pepper sauce, and all the soups, Nice sized portions. Excellent lunch specials. The decor is kind of drab. But when the food is this good, you won't notice. Speedy take-out operation.
The food was very flavorful. We ordered tangerine beef, shredded pork with garlic sauce, and Szechuan chicken with chili sauce. Every dish has a distinctive flavor. I love the numbing sensation in the chicken. The tangerine beef is too sweet for my taste. Overall, everything was above average. The servers were very nice and friendly.

I was excited and the reviews seemed good but I was missing an item and the food was over salted. The shrimp dumplings tasted like the shrimp was going bad. The spring rolls were under cooked. Won’t be trying them again
This restaurant is not suitable for vegetarians. I am a pescatarian and my wife is a vegetarian. Every single dish that we ordered was cooked with chicken broth. Including dishes listed in the vegetable section of the menu. This is not that unusual, but I think the menu should make a point to inform customers.
Chicken (in chicken and broccoli) was inedible - soft and without texture. Thought maybe undercooked, but on further cooking texture unchanged. Dandan noodles also total miss - noodles were very overcooked, and had no spice/kick, just lots of vinegary flavor. Yang chow fried rice was good. Have ordered before and been average local chinese take out, but will not oeder again after this experience.

The worst experience I have ever had. I was shocked because I had eaten in their a week ago. I purchased some food from them today and the chicken was spoiled I mean when I cut the chicken. It was dark dark brown and the only thing that they seem to be concerned about was, getting paid!! One staff member made up excuses about why the restaurant was the way it was the other one did not utter a word. The owner supposedly. Other staff told me that the rice was on the house.. the damn rice was not on the house it came with the meal. It should have been a sign that every time I’ve gone in there, there is never any customers in the entire restaurant. Will never go back and who puts corn in egg drop soup!
Wanted to give a better review but the dining in experience has been very inconsistent! Small restaurant but seem very understaffed all the time, I was with my family there a few times, because my parents live around the block, whenever we were at the restaurant, we were served by either a thin build waitress or another middle aged lady. After taking our orders, they always stay inside the kitchen, but not around the dining area, maybe helping to pack the delivery food, or cooking the food too? No matter what, we had to always run to the front desk for something, there’s either a young lady or a guy who were usually busy taking calls and he/she would have to run around to help us and other guests or to get the waitress out from the kitchen, it is quite chaotic for the staff and the diners! Otherwise it is a nice clean restaurant serving decent Sichuan style Chinese cuisine on the UES.
We have had dine-in, delivery & even pick up orders from A-Jiao. We moved to this neighborhood recently, came here for dinner 3 times, because the price is reasonable, portion is generous, there’s a young male server who’s pleasant & helpful during our first visit, we enjoyed our first meal here very much, however the second and third time have been very disappointing, we were served by some older lady and we just couldn’t get her when we were ready to order, or communicate with her clearly for ordering our dishes. After that, we called in to have a delivery once, and it took more than an hour to get our food and we live like 3 blocks away! A week after, we figured we will just called to pick up our food, was told the food would be ready in 15 minutes, we showed up 30 minutes after and the food wasn’t even ready to be picked up, it was after lunch hours and not even busy at that time, we sat there and waited for another 15-20 minutes, a total of more than 45 minutes for a pick up order! Never again! Many other choices for Chinese food around the area!
Complete trash. Oil taste old. General Tso chicken is soft and not crispy. Taste like fish and everything fried in same oil. All this for $15 hell no!
Arguably the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. Could not finish it
Ordered the sesame chicken, and Tangerine chicken. Not good, I have had way better Chinese food in this area, don’t waste your money. The chicken has some weird breading mixed in, not good quality meat. The Scallion pancake was okay. Wouldn’t order anything again.
I ordered the Stir Fry Prawns from this restaurant. The name says “stir fry,” but it came swimming in soup—clearly just trying to bulk it up. There were only four prawns in the whole dish. The menu also said it included minced beef, but there was none. Honestly, the owner is so stingy. If you’re going to offer a lunch specialty, at least give people a proper portion.
