Opinions de Caroline's Donuts Bergenfield
I am not a fan of donuts because they are usually oily or too sweet but this place deserves a review! The donuts are fresh and super fluffy, not too sweet (which is the biggest compliment from me for a dessert). We got the caroline, strawberry, and crème brûlée. Bit on the pricier side but definitely going back to try different flavors👌🏻🍩♥️
Amazing Donuts. Good prices. With a cozy shop and a great assortment of donuts, you will love em.
Popped in to pick up donuts to surprise my wife with. I really enjoyed the Mango donut, lemon donut, and the original glazed was also good! Person who took my order was nice and I was serviced quickly. Will be sure to come back (:
Even the sugar donut was a piece of perfection. Amongst the cream-filled, Boston cream took the better of all, and Nutella lovers have to give their Nutella a try. Great service, and they were really cordial with the customers. I'll be coming again to keep up this tour through their offerings.
Caroline's Donuts, a French bakery, is destined to be legendary on the Upper East Side. Their doughnuts, which are beautiful, creative and incredibly delicious, are more than just doughnuts. They can also be served as desserts or just incredible treats that everyone will enjoy. I tried two different ones yesterday. The "Dough Cro" with sugar, which was a cross between a sugar doughnut and a croissant. It was incredible. The Crème Brûlée doughnut, which was topped with caramel and filled with homemade pastry cream, was one of the most delicious baked goods I have ever had in my entire life. There are many more doughnut options to choose from, from Nutella-filled doughnuts, to doughnuts that are topped with a choice of lemon, chocolate, raspberry, coffee, coconut, apricot, mango or Dulce de Leche (cocoa nibs). This is a destination that is worth traveling to from all parts of the city, as there is nothing else quite like or as good as Caroline's Donuts anywhere else. Luckily, it is possible to place a pick-up order in advance and pay for it online. Just call the bakery directly. The owner is extremely friendly and the bakery is very clean. There are delivery services, too, such as Seamless Web and Grub Hub, that will bring Caroline's Donuts to your home. I highly recommend this amazing bakery. I called the bakery and have already placed my next order---I am getting a dozen this time! Caroline's Donuts is a gem on the Upper East Side! I highly recommend. Five Stars out of Five Stars Top Rating!!!
Outstanding donuts, not too sweet, natural flavor without dye. Belgium influence, you will never go back to industrial mass produced donuts after you try it.
Magnifique! These donuts are a work of art for the eye and the taste buds. The flavors are so unique or have a twist--how about a Crème Brûlée donut!!! The service is very friendly and there are cute little tables and chairs in case you can't wait to until you get home to try what you bought.
Caroline, maam I need to shake your hand. First off the gentleman at the counter was a pleasure. He was so kind and sweet to us. The raspberry donut is delicious. That glaze is to die for. Now the lemon donut with lime zest was my favorite. I love a tangy treat. The donut-eclaire combo was amazing too. The creme inside!!! Omg. The glaze donut was a hit with my daughter. My boyfriend had the Boston creme but he’s a Dunkin guy. So it was a little too gourmet for his liking. Overall I think this place is great. I am definitely returning !
I enjoyed the donuts here. I had the cronut looking donut with the cream and strawberry on top. It had a nice crisp on the outside and it was nice and flaky. I also tried the coffee one and so far I think that may be my favorite but I still have the crème brûlée to try tomorrow. The lady there was very nice, I’d come back.
! Wandered in after brunch to grab a quick donut. Had the lemon and it was DELICIOUS. The service was even better! The person at the counter overheard us debating whether to get the lemon or apricot and he gave us the second for free!! they both were AMAZING. I’m running the nyc marathon for the first time tomorrow and this was a great bite and even greater vibe before the big day.
Three weeks ago, I stumbled upon what can only be described as transcendental experience in the realm of donuts. As someone who has been raised on the European homemade versions of these pastries, my standards are set sky- high. However, these donuts shattered every expectation and transported me to a culinary bliss reminiscent of my grandmother’s legendary baking. The dough, light, airy, not overly sweet, perfect balance that leaved me craving for more. The donuts are bigger which I appreciated once I tried them. I bought 8 pieces, variety of flavors. Each one more extraordinary than another. It was the orange cream cheese donut that I wish I could eat every day ( I love cream cheese based cake creams aka red velvet cupcakes/ carrot cake creams). I finished my big donut before I left the store… once I tried it I couldn’t stop enjoying it. Even the humble sugar donut, often overlooked for simplicity, was a masterpiece! Boston cream, another gem!! Do you love Nutella? Go for Nutella one-great! If you seek donuts that are on a next level, look no further. I will definitely be back!!! I just wish they will sale them in DC…
I've been a fan that I've returned enough times to enjoy every flavor of doughnut Caroline's has, including most recently their orange cream cheese doughnut. I also zealously love introducing others to these extraordinarily delicious doughnuts. They've received raves from friends and family—my friends becoming immediate fans of the creme brûlée doughnut, among others—such as this opinion from my 10-year old nephew (a doughnut aficionado if there ever was one), "This is one of the best glazed doughnuts I've ever had!"
I am a French Journalist living in New York for 11 years. My son took me to this amazing place ! The crème brûlée donut is just… amazing!! They mixt French taste and American ones. The coffee is really good too. Not too strong, not enough strong. Thierry the owner is so French and funny! All flavors are making this place unique. I think they deserve to be known all over New York since it s the same quality than the other top rated fresh bakeries I used to go. 100%.
These yeast donuts are so fluffy and delicious!! I got a glazed and sugar coated, priced $3.75 each for "classic" flavors, I assume the fancier cronut ones are more costly but everything seemed very reasonably priced for an incredible treat in my opinion :) welcome to the neighborhood Caroline's!
First off, Darcy is such an amazing worker she is patient and super sweet! She answered all the questions I had and her service is wonderful! I tried the Nutella filled doughnut, the coffe doughnut and the twist one…All I have to say is 10/10 they are so delicious! I warmed them up when I got home and they were absolutely amazing! I will be coming back for more treats!!
We usually get their donuts which are really good. My mom came to NY for her birthday and we got her a carrot cake. It was really delicious. It was well spiced, has lots of nuts and candied orange peel, and no raisins.
At Caroline’s, I tried several donuts: the glazed chocolate (delicious), the sugar cinnamon (very good), and one made with croissant dough, which looked excellent. The prices are very reasonable, and the donuts are soft and flavorful.
I was actually taken aback with this doughnut. I got the creme brulee. It was the best doughnut I've ever eaten. There was so much filling and the dough was soft but bready and it was just perfect. Sweet but not overly sweet. I haven't stopped thinking about it. The service was lovely and there are a few places to sit. I didn't love the iced coffee but try for yourself and see! Get the doughnuts though. I'll be back before I leave new york.
i loved this place, the costumer service was amazing and i this was one of the best donut’s i have ever had!!! is not too sweet and its very nice and light. i will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu💓 in the pictures i ordered the passion fruit clair and the brulee donut.
Tried the donuts here for the first time today. They were so fresh and tasty. Will definitely be back. Wish they had more tables 😍. The lady at the counter was very nice, too.

Best donut ever. They are a little more expensive than other places but well worth the extra few dollars. The glazed coffee one didn't get shared... it was that good.

Solid, but not so impressive. You should not pay 10 dollars for two doughnuts. Krispy Kreme is right up the block. Whole Food is right up the block; these places have superior doughnuts. I’ll say Caroline’s doughnuts are on par with Dunkin’s Doughnuts. Dunkin’s is superior due to being less expensive. Eat well my friends.
I really really really wanted to love the doughnuts as what's better than supporting local doughnut shops?! But I feel a bit mixed: - I absolutely LOVED 2 doughnuts (strawberry and passion fruit) - I didn't like 2 (creme brulee and lemon) - The $7 strawberry lemonade was way too watery (tasted like homemade strawberry jam mixed in water) This tells me I will definitely go back for jam filled doughnuts (heavenly) but I will stay away from doughnuts with no fillings. Idk, this may also be a personal preference but the lemon and creme brulee doughnuts felt like just heavy bread and not a doughnut. I took a picture of the inside of the lemon doughnut - it looked dry and tasted like thick dry bread (how a white loaf of bread tastes like?). I saw other reviews of doughnuts being too oily but this felt the opposite. All in all, they really hit the spot for a couple of flavors and not so much for the other flavors. I will probably not get drinks from here but it's a doughnut shop, not a cafe.
Solid. The strawberry jelly donut was excellent. I generally like my donuts a little more pillowy. These were a bit of a heavier, heartier dough than from, say, Donut Project or Supermoon Bakehouse. A little cakier maybe. Which is great in the sense that it makes them more filling, but not my personal preference. That said, again, the strawberry jelly filled was excellent. I also got lemon, which I thought could have been a bit more tart, and raspberry (delicious) and coconut (I bet would be GREAT with a cup of coffee). I'm so happy this place is in the neighborhood but also happy it is not too close to my apartment so I'm not quite so tempted.

The donuts are genuinely very good, but the opening time is misleading. The shop lists 8:00 a.m., yet I’ve gone twice at that time and was told nothing would be ready until around 8:30. If products aren’t available at opening, the schedule should reflect that. Also, the communication could be more welcoming — the response felt abrupt rather than helpful. Great donuts, but early-morning experience needs improvement.

this was a very underwhelming donut for the steep price of $4. the dough was too thick and chewy and the dulce de lèche frosting was scantily painted on and also lacking in flavor. the guy at the front counter had a lovely demeanor, though!
New place caught my eye with their presentation. Bought raspberry favor. Icing was nice but dough was plain and a bit oily. Probably would have been better if it was fresh out of fryer. I bought it after picking up dinner takeout. Worth a try if you are walking by. Maybe morning would be better.
Chocolate icing was great but the dough has an odd bitter taste almost like sourdough. The Nutella with sugar coating was better than the plain dough with chocolate icing. I’m sure some people would enjoy these, overall just doesn’t have that classic taste and texture. It’s tacky the shop is using ChatGPT to respond to reviewers.

The donuts have a great look, and the variety of flavors is great, but the actual taste and texture of the donut is sub par. Could not finish it. They don’t taste like actual donuts? It’s like a weird oily bread (very oily) with a sweet topping.
Had to throw out my donut almost immediately. It smelled like rotten fish! Luckily the THICK hot chocolate I bought with it took the fish taste out of my mouth.
Before I get to any criticism, I love how well the service is and how beautifully the workshop is. It’s nothing but respect and love which I admire. However the donuts on its own right need to be better. The presentation is well put together but the taste and texture need help. The texture of the donut felt like grocery store bread and the taste left a lot to be desired. The price is justified due to how big the donuts are but for its taste… I’d rather skip.
I wasn’t going to write a review, but after seeing some similar reviews with my same complaints, I decided I should. Saturday evening, I got 6 donuts for $28, all different flavors. Brought them to a small get together. After a while, I noticed that my guests had tried small pieces of each donut, but not actually eaten them. I ended up trying one and there was something clearly off. I tried 4/5 of them, all the same off taste. The only ones that didn’t have that taste were the glazed ones. I can’t describe it, some reviewers say it tasted like chemicals but I’d have to disagree. The best way I can describe it is that they tasted old and off. I then started asking my friends what they thought of them, and realized that every single one of them also thought they were bad. We ended up throwing them out. The donuts are absolutely beautiful and you can tell they make them in house. Maybe I went too late on Saturday and they had been left out since the morning, but in that case, they shouldn’t have even been sold. I don’t think they were spoiled, but something was definitely off.
Service and atmosphere are fine, but unfortunately the donuts have almost no flavor. The creme brûlée for example had a beautifully bruleed sugar crust, but had a simple pastry creme inside, not a custard. No egginess - not even any vanilla flavor! The dough itself was very springy and light, like a light bread dough, not a donut dough. The strawberry filled was similarly devoid of any flavor other than sweetness. It was extremely disappointing. The donuts look attractive, and it’s clear they are meant to be looked at, not savored.
Theses donuts may look pretty, but they have no taste whatsoever except they’re sweet. We tried the glazed, the crème brûlée, and the strawberry, and across the board they were not good at all. The dough has no taste, the fillings were bland and one note, and, as noted by others, there was a very odd chemical taste in the dough, most prominently with the glazed donut. Any reviewer saying these were the best donuts they’ve ever had or experienced some sort of nirvana is either a paid shill or has never had an actual good donut. Save your $ and go somewhere else—even Dunkin is better. This is in response to the donut shop’s response to my review above. I get that they think their product is great and feel the need to defend it through listing their bakery techniques and source selection methods. I just don’t think the results are very good. As for questioning my motives behind my review, apparently because I referenced the over-the-top positive reviews, I have no agenda here other than to share my humble opinion of a new donut place in my neighborhood. I also note my review is not the only negative one here. But if the shop can succeed with these donuts, good for them. I wish them the best in their venture.
The donuts were ok at best but then left a weird, lingering, chemical aftertaste. We tried 6 different flavours and all of them had the same issue. Aside from the aftertaste, there was nothing great about them. I would expect a LOT more for $6 each. They look nice but none of us cared to finish them. I don’t think any of us have declined to finish a donut before…
A friend recommended this place, so I decided to walk the 10 blocks over since it was a nice day. I bought two slices of carrot cake and two donuts. In hindsight, I should have taken a closer look at the carrot cake while I was still in the shop. As soon as I got home, I could tell just by looking at it that it was going to be dry—and unfortunately, I was right. I took one bite and ended up tossing it. The flavor was actually great, but the cake was too dried out to enjoy.
Dunkin donuts are terrible for your health (processed) to the max, they taste better. My stomach is still turning, These donuts taste like they been sitting in pool of motor oil,(old), no flavor at all. People who said they have flavor (Ha) must think salt & pepper is the only seasoning they need. Creme burlee top was so hard I tried to save my teeth, cream filling was so bland, Dulce was disgusting, tasted like malted laxative. Never again will I go into a shop I haven't reviewed first. 8 dollars they should be giving them away they were so bad.
