When the trendy downtown Culver City restaurants like Meet in Paris have half-hour waits, go around the corner to this place. Usually no lines, even on the weekend. This place reminds me of the 50's Diner that used to be on Lincoln in Venice. They have big portions at affordable prices, but bring cash, since they don't accept credit cards.
A place to eat when you’re really hungry and want a good amount of grub for your money, and the staff is friendly and pleasant. Hot chocolate is tasty and served in an extra large cup. Probably the largest biscuit I’ve ever had with sausage gravy, and it was soft and fresh. Omelette are well made with your choice of ingredients and they don’t skimp on the cheese. CASH ONLY, so be prepared
Classic American diner with friendly staff and great food. My wife and I came here for many years, love this place. Get the hash.
This is a fantastic place to eat, but only if you are looking for great tasting food, friendly and professional staff, and reasonable prices! Michelle was, is, fabulous. She has a way of making you feel welcome without being overbearing, and her smile is infectious. I would recommend this yummy eatery to any and everyone because it caters to all ages and tastes. Give it a try, I promise you will not be disappointed. 💫🏔
Good food and coffee. Is cash only
This is by far one of my favorite places to go eat breakfast. The staff are amazing, and the food is always consistently good cooking. Nothing fancy, it is a Cash ONLY place, so beware. They do not accept credit cards. The cost is very reasonable. 👍 My favorite food their are the hashbrown's, well done, Biscuits and gravy,3 eggs scrambled, and cup of coffee around $15-$18.
Perfect little hometown breakfast spot. You'd never know you weren't in the middle of the countryside. Very classic brekkie, great service.
Very eclectic. The place reminded me of the way live was before mass fast food. The service was on point. The food was delicious. Im sad I didn't take a picture but got overwhelmed with the flavors. Corned beef hash with 1/2 B&G is 🔥
Cash only. I absolutely love this authentic diner. I hate to even give the review I don't want it to get too crowded. I can often get a booth seating here. Staff is great. Food is on point diner - I'm a breakfast fanatic.
Michelle was terrific. I didn't realize they only accepted cash until after I ate. She was so sweet, she allowed me to Zelle her. Did I mention the food & coffee was fantastic. Thank you Michelle for making a dim morning brighter!
Consistently delicious diner sandwiches. Could eat the turkey club every day of my life. It’s perfect. Curly fries are great too. They also do takeout and it’s super quick, would definitely recommend for a WFH weekday lunch.
We had an excellent breakfast! The food was very well prepared, service was also very good. Attentive but not rushed. The atmosphere is a vintage vibe, a throwback to an earlier time. We didn’t have to wait, but were told that sometime they get busy and can have a short wait. It is cash only. A great choice for a traditional home style breakfast. The hashbrowns were very good, as was Sam’s special hot coffee.
What a fun place I got so lucky and got parking outside, but I have to tell you only the best place in the world could serve a peanut butter and jelly and banana sandwich. The menu is huge here from my part. Had to do the two enchiladas with ground beef I ate them so fast. I don’t even think they had time to cool down. I would’ve eaten the plate if I could’ve gotten away with it, but you can’t eat plates… I thought the service was incredibly friendly. I love the environment. It’s very straightforward and very honest and the seating is comfortable. You can even sit outside, but if I were you, I would enjoy the fact that this is one of the few places you can get a really good meal for under $15 and there’s a lot of choices here and the food. I didn’t even have to wait seven minutes my next visit? I’m coming for breakfast.
Classic diner experience with the food, quantity and prices to match. Very cute Culver City area to walk around before or after too. Chicken salad sandwich - yes Banana pancake - yum. Onion rings - hard pass. I ordered the corn and chili pancake, just cause I’ve never seen that before so it’s an interesting item. But, it’s not commonly seen because it’s kind of weird. The corn and chili just don’t add anything to the flavor it’s just every other bite you’ll have a kernel of corn or a bite of chili try it if you want just because again it’s not a common and new item but you’re better off of the bandit can’t cakes with her actually amazing. Don’t order the onion rings though - not good. Thin, flimsy and old.
Exactly what you’d want from a diner with an affordable menu. The full stack of pancakes is massive, only order if you’re sharing and haven’t eaten for a day. Everything was delicious and the service was great
Loved the atmosphere and the prices. Great for the area. Metered parking. Got the 2 egg plate with the bagel and cream cheese, lots of side options. Good coffee. Bring cash
I came here while on vacation visiting my son best breakfast I’ve ever had and the owner and her son are very friendly and down to earth ☺️ Can’t wait to come back again And the country steak was Delicious 😋

Wonderful local dining. Good food, friendly staff. Parking can be tricky, we parked on street near Wells Fargo Bank about a 3 block walk.
S&W is a classic American breakfast/lunch cafe in the heart of Culver City right near the Kirk Douglas theatre. The location can't be beat but parking can be an issue(not in my case though as I used the excellent Culver City bus). The menu has the classics and I liked I could build my own 3 egg omelette stuffing it with jack cheese, onions, corn beef, ground beef, bell peppers. It also came with sourdough bread and hash browns(other options available like pancakes. I spent $20 total but the value is above average it was alot of food. Note: I really like that they ONLY take cash because it contrasts to the trend I really dislike of places not taking cash. Recommended.
Old town diner vibes. The food and customer service is excellent. They have counter seating as well as tables.
S&W is a cute place, but not as good as it used to be. I was trying to decide between 3 and 4 stars, my husband loved his burger so I went with 4, but I doubt we will be back, unless I want a burger. The service was just okay. We did get waited on right away and our food came, but we never saw a server again, we had to ask for a check. The place is still cute, but dusting of the stuff on the walls needs to be done. Other than that, it was clean. Parking is on the street and not easy to find. I found the rest of the food to be just average. The biscuits and gravy were not good at all and the gravy was watery. No one ate it. The pancakes had no butter on them and were bland and dry. The eggs were cooked perfectly. The coffee was just warm and no one came to ask if we wanted more. The salad was very good. It does get very crowded on the weekends so I would go elsewhere for breakfast if I were you. This is the not the first time we have been and found it lacking. I really hope they get it together. Good thing I did not want syrup on my pancakes.
Went here with the wife for breakfast on a rare rainy day in LA. Had been here before for lunch. Then I had the cheeseburger combination. Although I didn't write about it then, this was one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. Everything you want in a diner burger plus the absolute best bun. The burger was tasty and juicy but the bun refused to fall apart. That NEVER happens. OK, back to breakfast. I had my go-to dish of French Toast. It was just what you would expect from a country diner. Four pieces for a full order. Lightly browned, tasty but unremarkable. The coffee was good and a glass of water appeared at the start, just like you would expect. The wife had her usual dish of two eggs over easy with bacon, hash browns and toast. Again, this was just what you would expect from a country diner, unremarkable but adequate. The ambiance (can you use that word for a diner?) reminds me of a place I frequented 40 years ago near Chicago called Steel's Grill. Country diner. That's all you need to know. The diner is open for breakfast and lunch. It closes at 2 pm. They only accept CASH, so hit up the ATM before coming. There is plenty of metered street parking in the morning but you may need to walk a bit for lunch. So, we'll definitely be back for lunch. Breakfast was good but not great and there are a lot of places for breakfast that we haven't tried yet.
Important to know that it is cash only. S&W is a really solid, classic diner. Inside has a really great retro look, with the theme of a diner in the country. They have plenty of table and booth seating as well as a large menu. Service was very quick and we were able to sit down right when we arrived for an 11 AM Sunday brunch. Parking in the area can be a bit tricky, we were not able to find street parking, so we parked in the parking garage on Watseka Ave a few blocks away. The garage has first hour is free parking and plenty of floors. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, which was done very well although the ham could have been cooked a little more, as well as a Scramble and Blueberry Pancakes. I tend to like my pancakes a bit fluffier but still these were very good. We also ordered a Biscuit & Gravy and although I enjoyed the gravy, the biscuit was not a traditional biscuit and tasted closer to a light cake. I held back a star due to some personal preparation preferences, and the cash only policy. Overall it was a nice breakfast.
S&W is a super cozy hole in the wall diner that reminded me of where I grew up in the south. The food was good but nothing amazing. The "Louisiana hot links" aren't at all the country red hots that I expected, and the turkey sausage patties are a bit dry, but the pancakes were tasty. Service was speedy and attentive though the servers lacked personality. Overall decent experience and would return again.
You will not leave with an empty stomach. The breakfast was delicious and the pancakes were huge and fluffy! The table coverings also give you something to read while you're waiting for your food. Cute!

Parking was a bit tough but that's California in general I suppose. We were visiting from out of state & I wanted to try this Diner that had good reviews. The food in general was good although the cottage potatoes were kind of plain with no seasoning; And they only take cash so keep that in mind.
The food was so bland, thankfully they brought A1 sauce to serve with my steak and eggs because, my god that steak was nasty! I ask for medium and got it served up rubbery and not seasoned. Keep the salt and pepper close to you as you will need to douse all your food in it as this was the saddest flavored breakfast I’ve ever had. Should have saved my money and cooked my own breakfast. The servers do the bare minimum, and looked a lil jaded if I’m being honest. The atmosphere was cute though!
The place is eclectically decorated but not overly decorated as some places are. It’s a smaller diner that has on street metered parking. Good breakfast with friendly service. Pricing was very moderate. They only take cash, so have some cash on you or be ready to go across the street and pull done out of the atm.
Food is just a little worse than what I would consider to be basic diner food, hence the 3/5. Corned beef hash was super disappointing, as was the chicken fried steak. If I went back I would just order bacon and eggs or something more basic which would probably be fine / a little better.
Came here with a friend for a quick breakfast and coffee. As soon as we sat down the waitress brought us menus and asked if we wanted some water and coffee and brought those right away. When we were ready she came and took our orders and everything came out quite fast. While we were seated she came by several times to make sure we had coffee and refilled the water. I always appreciate places that make sure your water is always topped up. The food is average.. nothing really stood out, but it works for what we wanted a nice quiet place for a quick breakfast. One thing to keep in mind is that this place is cash only, but if you don't have enough on you like we didn't, there is an ATM from Chase right across the street. So come prepared.
Cool vintage diner in downtown Culver City. The corned beef has was good. Solid breakfast. The tuna salad was blah. Service and staff are super nice. Be aware it is cash-only.
CASH ONLY. Sam’s Special Hot Coffee was great. I ordered the Homemade Corned Beef Hash and found it to be overcooked and oily, but flavor seemed good otherwise.

I usually love S&W but I made the mistake of ordering the "chicken salad sandwich" the other day and it was awful. There was just a bunch of chopped chicken and celery on bread (toasted, which I hate, and I was not asked if I wanted it toasted). No mayo (which I think most people would agree is something you can expect in a "chicken salad sandwich") and no seasonings that I could detect. When I tried to eat it, everything fell out because, again, there was no mayo or anything to hold the "chicken salad" together. So I was left with a plate of bland, slightly watery chopped chicken and celery bits that needed to be eaten with a fork, and a side of wheat toast. It was gross. Unfortunately we were having a sensitive family discussion and it was not a good time for me to speak to the manager about it, but I guess the lesson is to stick to breakfast at this place.

Cash only , and they don't notify you before ordering so your stuck running around after to an ATM. Food , so so potatoes and peppers were the best. Chicken fried steak is very lack luster more like a mediocre pork chop. Very cool outdoor eating , waitresses were 100% on it. Overall I would say step up the meals a little and add credit card pay out and this place could easily be a 4 star.
I would give one star but the cashier was sweet and tried to take care of us. Unfortunately the food was terrible, I paid too much for this poor quality. Just lazy cooking, potatoes were gross and rubbery and completely unseasoned , the eggs were not good and the French toast was beyond disappointing. This plate resembled something you get for free at a soup kitchen. I’m really mad because Im so hungry and know of much better and cheaper spots but I wanted to give this place a chance. I do not recommend coming here. Go literally anywhere else!
We wanted to like the place more but...It's a good idea with a cute interior and plenty of seating but the food was really lacking in flavor. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Street parking only. The restaurant is also cash only (Chase Bank right across the street). Unfortunately I cannot recommend breakfast here as there are so many places that serve tastier morning meals.

First off their staff is incredibly rude and racist! They found out that my friend was from Israel and they didn’t want to serve us. Not sure why we didn’t want to walk out then but they served us eventually. The food was horrible. Please stay away from this restaurant. They deserve to go under. This is not the last time you will hear from me! Going to the news station to tell them this story.
PLEASE SKIP. THE WORST sloggy GRITS & Biscuits in Gravy I've EVER eaten. I'm from the South & expect much better. They should pay you to eat them. 1X & Done.
