This family owned/run business is an absolute favorite of mine here in Big Bear. I go here regularly for a great Burger. Kim or Holly will take care of you and both are exceptional!
Great little place. Fantastic burger. Reasonably priced beers in a frosty mug. Friendly staff. Love it.
Sweet owners. They've been here for 40 years. Please support them. Cash only for pick-up and outside dining. Good beer on tap
I stumbled across this place while exploring Big Bear. Tasty food, reasonably priced and very friendly service. A must for lunch I will for sure be coming back. Thanks
Really fast and friendly service, beer served in a super frozen glass (A+ work there) and delicious food- this place is CASH ONLY but there is an ATM at the shop next door. We will definitely be coming back!
Good sandwiches, fast service, just be aware that when they're busy they might not pick up the phone for your takeout order, just head down and they'll have your order ready in ten minutes or so.
The food is awesome! Very cold beer ! Heidi and Chuck , the owners , are very nice people too. Highly recommended!!!
Anything you could ask for! Great food small family owned good atmosphere! I make it a point to go here at least once every time I'm in big Bear!
I had a bacon cheddar cheeseburger with the famous potato salad and the burger was the best I have ever had. Omg just what I was craving. The charcoal bits with that thick burger was so good!!
A "Burger Joint" that is well known among the locals of Big Bear. Great burgers and other sandwiches. Situated in a old "Log Cabin" style building.
Good solid sandwich Great service Cash only!!!
Exceptional food and service! We had the beef dip sandwich and hot pastrami. Fun atmosphere and reasonably priced.
So good. I've been eating here for 40 years and it's still amazing. Best burgers on the mountain.
The food is excellent! The staff were very friendly and the service was fast. "Better than Jersey Mike's"!
Chuck cooks up some mean burgers, melts and sandwiches. My favorite burger spot!
Nice small family cafe with outside balcony area and typical design. Cheese sandwiches were nice. Happy Christmas to everyone!
Cute lil cabin deli glad we found it OMG 😯 it was delish!!! Price was good and worth it. Vegas vacay!! Will stop again during our stay!!!
Food was delicious. Service was fast and the people were very friendly. Would definitely recommend this place.
This is hands down my favorite restaurant and BURGER in Big Bear! Cash only, in an effort to keep prices low, and boy are the prices a steal! Their specialties are burgers and sandwiches, and they have fantastic homemade sides including potato salad, macaroni salad, and a balsamic coleslaw. You can get beer / wine for ~$3/4 per glass, and pitchers offered as well! It’s family owned and run, the waitress & cook are the owners, I believe! It does have limited indoor seating, but they turn over tables quickly, and there’s lots of room for outdoor seating in summer / if you have your warn gear on in the winter. The building is old, and the seating is picnic table style, so there is some aging. The decor is hilarious vintage Big Bear in the best of ways, a legitimate version of what an Applebee’s tries for. Families welcome. To combat an early review on the cleanliness… 1. I’ve been here many times and I was not aware they even severed French fries? Never mind how “greasy” they are. Also, you’re mad that food that had been deep fried is greasy? Hmm… 2. I’ve seen into this kitchen many times (anyone can from the dining room) and while it’s not aesthetically pretty, it’s clean. I’ve worked in many kitchens, and it meets the standards. 3. A bathroom is not a kitchen. They don’t cook in the bathroom. Complaint noted, but did you tell the staff or just troll about it on the internet?
Super delicious! Service was great and we didnt have to worry about overcrowding. We were at another place and masks and distancing were supposed to be happening but they werent. We left and came here! Awesome food and they were not seating big groups. Its hours later and I just ate the second half of my barbeque ham sandwich. it was better than when we were there! Prices are great too. Thank you, guys!
One of the best burgers on the mountain. This is one of my favorite places to come to. Their burgers are very unique and are gigantic. Their sandwiches are delicious and their homemade potato salad and maccorroni salad is out of this world. The owners are extremely nice, and there is seating outside for enjoying a beautiful day in the mountains. Their beer is served ice cold. This place is perfect for a quick bite to eat with friends and family.
Terrific food and excellent service. The beers come ice cold. They make the best ruben sandwhiches… and you have to try the chili! Be sure to bring enough cash.. it is cash only :)
Fantastic local place to get a bite! I come here a few times a year and always enjoy the food. Service is good as well. It's a small place so you're never far from your server. The Ruben is great, highly recommend.
Insanely delicious! Great service, really cozy inside. One of those local treasures - stop reading this review and go! I ordered pastrami on sourdough with macaroni salad and it was FIRE!
If you are in the mood for a brew and burger, this is the place. Cool atmosphere, reasonable prices and extremely good food. The chili is absolutely fantastic. It's cash only, but so tasty.
Love this place. Burgers are great meat and taste like Dad made them on The Grill, that is if your dad made great hamburgers -mine did. Very welcoming place.
Used to come here as a kid for $1 pancakes. While they no longer have that, food is good and very well priced. Got the Pastrami dip and it was super cheesy! Wife got the garden melt, which she enjoyed. I got the coleslaw as my side which is different as its made with balsamic instead of mayo. Very cool. The owner Chuck and his staff were very nice, and service was top notch and quick.
Really great food. I highly recommend the veggie sandwich. It was so great with the vinegar on it and tasted really clean and fresh. They accept to-go orders too if you want to grab some food then head to the lake. 🥪
I’ve eaten burgers from all over... and this is hands down the best burger I’ve ever had in my entire life! If you’re in the big bear area please do yourself a favor and visit this gem! Great service and even greater food!
I have been coming here for a long time. The food is always great and the chili 🌶️ is the best I have ever had. Service has always been good also. This place is the only place we eat at when in big bear city.

What a groovy little spot! We stopped in after a ride at the ranch and enjoyed ourselves here. A lot of really kooky cool eye candy on the walls and everywhere. Cozy and small. Outdoor patio if it’s not too cold. Heidi and Chuck are the greatest! Very friendly and helpful and made our visit extra special. BJ’s has been around so long I find that fabulous! I started with a glass of red and moved onto a rolling rock and they’ve got very decent prices. I had the Rueben sandwich and the sauce on. It was just lovely! It was cooked nicely and came out very hot which was great! My only complaint is there wasn’t nearly enough meat in it. I tasted mostly bread but with a little more meat that would’ve been perfection. The coleslaw has a nice twist instead of mayo. They use balsamic vinegar! Tart but lovely! Will definitely be back!
On vacation in the mountains and we found this place we went not once, but twice and honestly might be a third before we leave the area. My group of 3 enjoyed the burgers on our first trip the 2/3 pound burgers were perfectly cooked and delicious. Second time around we had the 1 pound burger, tuna melt and roast beef melt. And not a plate was left with any food on it. Amazing place to stop at if you are in the area. Super friendly people running the place and whoever cooks those burgers please let them know that those are some of the best burgers that we have had
Superb. It does what it says on the label. Good honest simple food from a ripping pair of folk. Yeah, it’s not flash but that is the coldest beer I’ve had in years and some of the best service since being stateside. Thanks folks, catch you next time.
Absolutely love this place. So friendly, so accommodating, and so delicious. We walked there because the restaurant at the airport is closed. We had our two dogs with us and needed to sit on the patio. The first place we walked by told us they would not let us sit on their patio because the patio was closed. We walked further east and saw BJ's. The lovely lady there not only opened the patio, she took our order and brought our food. Thank you. You ROCK!
This is one of our favorite places to eat. It's a local favorite within the community, and the owner is wonderful. Please try this place, you will not be disappointed. Hint, the tuna melt with sliced tomatoes and pepper jack cheese, on sourdough is phenomenal.
Best burgers ever. Miss going there.
Really yummy sandwich! Pastrami was soooo juicy. Owners are nice and chill :) good music, Menu is pretty varied as well. I'm so happy I found this place. Def check it out.
Absolutely the best sandwich I have had in quite some time. Super friendly staff. Cash only. Huge portions.
Love it! It's a must stop for us every time we are up the mountain. Owners are the best. Chuck cooks the best burgers around and Heidi is always welcoming and gives phenomenal service. Chili is a staple too! It is a locals place and we love it for that. Slightly off the beaten path. Tons of character. And the beer IS COLD! The deck is open in the summer and the wood stove is kicking in the winter.
Great atmosphere 👌 Cook was very nice, friendly and made us feel welcomed. The girl that waited on us was just as pleasant 😊 I highly recommend this place.

Good food, fast service, decent prices.
I have eaten here a few times and the burgers are good. I have not tried the sandwich. I live un big bear full time. This is one of the best burger places on the mountain. The staff were nice a friendly. Do remember they only take cash. Next time your in big bear and want a good burger at a fair price try this place.
Cash only... We had a great club sandwich, veggie burger, and grilled cheese. The food is basic but very well done. With $4 beers and wine, plus good food--it's hard to go wrong. We will absolutely be back.
BJ's Restaurant and Sandwich Shop - Tasty food at good prices with a Big Bear experience. My girlfriend and I stopped at BJ's Restaurant and Sandwich Shop after a long weekend of partying and snowboarding in the Bay Area. She chose this restaurant because it was highly rated on Yelp and she was craving a sandwich. Getting to the restaurant was a bit of a challenge, as Apple Maps gave us an incorrect location. However, once we arrived, we were impressed by the unique cabin-themed decor with curated wall decorations, which we don't often see in the Bay Area. The food was great. I ordered a veggie sandwich and my girlfriend ordered a hot roast beef sandwich with au jus on the side. The veggie sandwich was healthy with great taste, and the sauce stood out as creamy and savory. The bread was a good balance of spongy and firm, though a bit messy to eat at times. My girlfriend loved her sandwich, saying the meat was juicy and flavorful. The au jus paired well with the meat. She wishes she had more of her Mac salad. I also loved the potato salad recommended by the owner, which had a great crunch from the greens and flavorful sauce. Wish there was more, but the small side makes me want to go back for more. The restaurant is cash only, but there's a shop next door that offers cash back. The owner mentioned that they have a balcony open during the summer and cold beer for the heat. For two sandwiches, the total came to around $20, which was a good price. The portions weren’t massive, but perfect for the price. We felt that BJ's Restaurant and Sandwich Shop caters to the local community, and if you're looking for a Big Bear experience, it's definitely worth checking out!
Very fast and friendly service. Burger was good, didn’t care for macaroni salad. Prices are good.

I had a grilled turket melt, hands down THE BEST ive ever had. UNTIL A INCONSIDERATE SMOKER was sitting right by us smoking a cigarette and ruined my lunch. It totally sucked smelling that. We left.
This place gets 1 star only due to the kindness of the server and her patience. The place has been around forever so I don't expect it to look new what I do expect though is it to be clean. It's not remotely clean, it's less clean than a hotel room where 10 drunk teenagers stayed for 30 days without ever cleaning. The benches, sticky, like my hand stuck to them, the bathroom, the door was the first indication and it was insanely sticky as if it hadn't been wiped down in a year, not a figure of speech. The bathroom looks like a set from an episode of SVU where they found a body. Standing water in the bathroom, bathroom floor cracked all the way though, zero paper towels and if you walk out the bathroom don't look into the kitchen to the right, it's the stuff of nightmares. Now to food, half our order was wrong, the server though was fantastic and was quick to fix / help with everything. She was kind, great with kids, super pleasant and is the best thing here. Food quality was bad, really really bad. Some of my favorite places are small, local BBQ places (like manny or dons in Yucca or 29). The food was caked in oil / butter, meat was sparse and incredibly fatty, potato salad was runny, like tip the container over and it just ran out runny. Avoid, seriously, go anywhere else. Unfortunate as I was hoping this place would be a gem but after digging it was just a dirt clod.

Update May 2024: arrived at 11am Sunday and their door was locked. The young lady server was setting up outside and I asked what time they open. She said 11. I said it’s 11. She says 11:15. I said really? I have a trolley to catch at 11:30 and can’t wait. She says ya, we were busy yesterday so we are opening late. Why not get there early if you knew that…and don’t say 11! You’re setting up for your valued customers while turning away one that’s ready to order while you’re supposed to be open? This threw off my day by not having lunch before leaving to meet my family and ended up having to inconvenience them later by me getting lunch late. Really, really off-putting, and you lost a customer that basically came there every day while here on vacation and was planning to on several more occasions. I hope the young server is related to the owners and has the authority to turn away and lose customers for good; otherwise it’s a shame an employee can use such poor judgment to ruin your business.
