This was our first visit to Chakana, but won't be the last. My husband and I decided to try the tasting menu as we have never had Peruvian food before. Every course was delicious, very tasty and nicely presented. Flavours were familiar but yet, surprising. You won't be disappointed. If you've never had Pisco, give it a go! Best cocktail I have had for a while. All the staff was very knowledgeable and really helpful. Thank you Chakana!
I am a visitor in the city and me as a Peruvian i can say all this menu are the most perfect creation honored the ceviche the flavoring of every sauce and the great choise in every dishes you have to visit chakana and you will love it for live excellent service. Congratulations to all your team
Had an amazing meal here. We had the tasting menu and as someone who doesn’t eat seafood, they were so accommodating and let me swap out the seafood dishes for the veggie options. I couldn’t fault a single one of the dishes, and the service was impeccable. Would definitely come back again! And I highly recommend the purple corn sandwichito - 10/10!!
We had an absolutely wonderful Sunday lunch here yesterday. The service from Erika was charming, informative and attentive. The restaurant is very well designed. We had delicious cocktails to start and then two courses of truly delicious food. Highly recommended, I would most certainly go back.
We had the pleasure of dining at Chakana and trying their tasting menus my wife had the full menu, while I had a pescatarian version. Both were absolutely incredible! The creativity and flavour in every dish blew us away. My personal highlights were the Hot Crab Causa (so rich and full of depth), the Red Mullet in Hot Ceviche (the fish was soft, sweet, and the sauce was just 🤯), the Purple Corn Sandwichito (my first ever squid “burger” and amazing!), and the Hake Amazonia with yuca stew, kiwicha grain, chocolate, and seaweed so unique and beautifully balanced. My wife loved the Roasted Suckling Pig Pekinés, which she highly recommends, as well as the Hot Crab Causa and the Warm Beef Tiradito. To finish, the Cherimoya Mousse with dulce de leche and miso paired with freshly made mini doughnuts was the perfect ending light, playful, and full of flavour. The presentation of every plate was stunning, and the service was spot on our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable and made the experience feel very special. Chakana might be Michelin-recommended, but honestly, it deserves every bit of praise the food, flavours, and creativity are on another level. Highly recommended!
Delicious food, presented beautifully. Unique menu. Cocktails were great, very tasty and inventive, lots of choice of bespoke cocktails. Tried ceviche and wouldn’t recommend if you aren’t expecting large chunks of fish. Quite pricy but a unique dining experience. The Sunday dinner was a strange choice but was still tasty.
Fantastic restaurant where I always love to come back for a special meal. Me and my husband were celebrating a wedding anniversary so we came for dinner on a Thursday evening. The service was great and attentive and food came relatively quickly. We ordered a pisco and a cocktail and they were both superb. Then we had a delicious complimentary bread with a dip and starters - seabream ceviche, tuna nikkei and salmon ceviche. All of them were excellent but I would say the salmon was the best (my husband said that for him it was the classic seabream). We then had suckling pig and hot red mullet ceviche. Again, both were superb, very interesting and creative flavour combinations and beautiful plating. For dessert we had picarones (doughnuts with ice cream) and they were a perfect sweet ending of a special meal. We even got complimentary anniversary plate with ice cream! :)
I can only put this one way - I found my new favourite Birmingham restaurant. Planned a date night with my partner, we felt experimental so decided to try Chakana which proved to be a fantastic decision. We ordered a selection of dishes including seafood, pork, deserts and cocktails. Every bite held a new surprise in terms of flavour and texture in the best possible way. Combinations I would never have thought would work so well together provided the most luxury and extravagant dining experience. I am completely confident that had I closed my eyes and picked a dish at random I would have still thoroughly enjoyed it. As for the service, I cannot stress enough how impressed I was. Even though the restaurant was packed we never had to wait more than a minute or two for the server or the host. The server did a terrific job at explaining the menu including recommendations - and warning us about Pisco being stronger than we anticipated which of course fell on deaf ears haha. Overall the staff was both efficient and great at creating a welcome atmosphere which seems to be increasingly uncommon in Birmingham. As to the price - I thought it was completely reasonable for the culinary experience and level of service we have received. I would strongly recommend Chakana for date nights, special occasions or even impulsive reservations where you need a solid restaurant that will deliver all of your expectations and more.
I don’t say this lightly: I had the best meal of my life at Chakana! ✨ This Peruvian gem in the heart of Moseley completely blew me away. I ordered the hake, and it was nothing short of extraordinary – perfectly cooked, melt-in-your-mouth texture, with bold, vibrant flavours that somehow managed to be both refined and deeply comforting. Every bite felt like a masterclass in balance and freshness. To drink, I had a watermelon-based cocktail that was just as impressive. It was light, refreshing, and beautifully paired with the food – the kind of drink that makes you stop mid-sip just to appreciate how clever it is. The service was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between relaxed and refined. Chakana doesn’t just serve food – it gives you an experience. If you’re even remotely curious about Peruvian cuisine, this place is a must. 🫶🏽
We went for the tasting menu as it was a special occasion. Food was full of interesting flavours, utterly delicious, and beautifully presented. I had made a mistake on the booking and it could all have gone horribly wrong but the staff sorted it brilliantly with kindness and grace. Compliments and thanks to all the staff - was a wonderful experience and well worth the long journey to get there.
Lovely experience and food. Will visit again. Don't be intimidated by the plate presentation, the servers are friendly and not stuck up. You can definitely feel satisfied after an appetizer and main. I feel like the meat could've been seasoned a bit more but that's my only criticism (it's quite bland without any sauces).
Literally joy on a plate. The food was exceptional. The team kind, knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. AND dog friendly. Words are normally my thing but this food is so bonkersly good, that it defies words. Just try Chakana, if you are lucky enough to be in Birmingham. If not, travel to Birmingham to try it. It really is that good.
I couldn’t recommend Chakana highly enough; it’s possibly the best restaurant in Moseley! The staff are incredibly friendly, the food is absolutely divine, and the presentation is always so captivating. If you’re looking for the best ceviche in town, this is the place to go. But it doesn’t stop there. Every dish on the menu is thoughtfully designed, expertly prepared, and from the very first bite, you can tell the food is exceptional. We came here on our first date two years ago, and we’ve kept coming back ever since. Whether it’s for a special birthday celebration or a casual meal, Chakana never fails to impress. This place has truly become our happy place; from the moment you’re greeted to the moment you leave, you know you’ll be well looked after, both in terms of the service and the food.
Absolutely amazing! The perfect place to celebrate my boyfriend’s birthday. The food is gorgeous, such a lovely experience for those familiar or unfamiliar with Peruvian cuisine. The team are fantastic, so lovely and kind. They were so accommodating with food allergies. Already planning our next our next visit.
Excellent restaurant! Has won handful of awards and the chef is michelin starred, which increased our expectations.Amazingly met, the beef and chicken was tender, sea bream ceviche was so fresh, and the crab starter was so creamy! The quality of the ingredients were phenomenal, portions are generous too!! Even the starter ceviche I had a lot of the fish 😹 Erica is excellent in her service, we had a brief chat and she originally hails from Mexico. She was very knowledgeable about the dishes & was so friendly! Thank you!
My wife took me out for my Birthday and we had the tasting menu. We were greeted immediately when we walked in. Our booking was for 6pm so it was not busy yet. The food was great and would definitely recommend the tasting menu, it will fill you up. The staff were great and explained what each dish was when it came out. Cocktails were really good and I also tried the Peruvian beer (dark version) which was surprisingly good, think Guinness but not as bitter, would have been nicer if it was colder, so if you order this make sure it is chilled well. We are definitely going back to try the menu, 100% recommend!!!!
Before the food came, my family and I already knew this was going to be our new spot to bring our friends and family. The environment is a good combination of modern formal and family warmth. We went for my father's 85th and said the salmon starter was some of the best he has ever had. This is the same person who would criticise my grandma's cooking! Most definitely recommend, though I hope it remains my 'secret' spot, I hope I see it with every table full the next time I come. I also have allergies and always judge a place on how well they react and they were fabulous. No complaints! I was really trying to find a fault but if anything the drinks menu was a bit sticky but as with any place that serves yummy mocktails or cocktails. Definitely recommend if you haven't already guessed :)
We visited Chakana for first time for my hubby's birthday, Tbh we had no idea hows Perusian cusine look like , even look at the menu we couldnt make our mind what to order as everything sounds tasty ! We ordered four starters and three mains as well as three drinks and turnout the bill is less than £90 ! amazing price and good quality. What a great experience for fine dining HIGHLY recommended for everyone who is foodie and looking for any nice dinner with partner. What we ordered : starter / duck breast traitor, Tuna Nikkei ceviche, beef tartar, croquets de aji de gallina .Main:suckling pig, braised octopus 🐙.
My husband and I had a date night here - and it was fabulous. We both had the tasting menu, myself the vegetarian one and we both thought our food was delicious. Sanjeev looked after us really well, explaining each dish and even humoured me when I told him I thought he was a Tom Hiddleston look alike! We'll be back for sure. Thanks for a lovely evening.
We tried the 10-course tasting menu (£85 per person) and overall it was an excellent experience. The dishes were beautifully presented, and 9 out of 10 were outstanding — fresh, well-prepared, and full of flavour. Only one starter( potato and quinoa nigiri) didn’t work for us. The menu is very filling — we arrived hungry and struggled to finish the last courses. The staff were exceptional: attentive, kind, and very knowledgeable about each dish. They even helped us fix a broken paper shopping bag, which was a lovely touch. I’m taking one star off for atmosphere as the restaurant felt cold, and I had to keep my jacket on throughout. Overall, definitely worth visiting for the food and service.
Excellent dinner here last night. The food is bright, has amazing flavours and is delicious. The snacks have stunning presentation and the taste matches it! Starters and mains were equally visually appealing and full of flavour and texture. Absolutely delicious. Service was friendly, personable and efficient - in other words, excellent. We really enjoyed our visit and will be back.
Had a family Sunday dinner here! After having had a wonderful holiday in Peru earlier in the year I was hoping to re-live the experience. It didn't disappoint in fact the food here was if anything better than in Peru! Absolutely delicious as were the cocktails. In addition to the taste the starters, mains and desserts were all really well presented Highly recommend! (but OMG the doughnuts were to die for, I had full on food envy!) We are going back for the taster menu.
Beautiful restaurant in an old bank with luxurious feel. Great attention to detail and service from the whole team from the moment you step in the door. Amazing cocktails that are reasonable price for the creativity and quality. Great dishes with lots of flavour, colour and textures. Hope to be back for the tasting menu!
Amazing food, amazing service!! Good quality product in very elegant dishes. The tasting menu was well designed, we learned lot of history about Peru as well from very knowledgeable waiter. We cannot fault anything. Definitely recommended it.
This restaurant is a must visit. The food has no equal in Birmingham (surely no other Peruvian here?) and the service is professional but relaxed and friendly. We were so well looked after. From our cocktail aperitifs to the selection of deserts, our meal was a delight. A riot of bright colours and beautiful presentation which was backed up by interesting and surprising flavours. This is fine dining and exciting modern cuisine. There is almost certainly something on the menu you won't have tried before. Throughout the meal we were always well attended and any requests were more than satisfied. All the food was very well prepared and presented. You would be very happy to celebrate any special occasion here and know that you will be well catered for. The stylish decor adds to the atmosphere although despite plenty of room around the tables, it was a bit noisy when full.
A return to this restaurant produced a much improved experience. As before, the food was original and abfab, but today it was much warmed and was better lit. Service from young, well trained, engaging staff was lovely. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Fresh, extremely flavourful food and excellent service. My wife and I have visited a few times in the past year and taken friends here. The menu had different mains but each were equally amazing. The staff are also very attentive and friendly. Overall an outstanding experience. One of our favourite restaurant in the area and we can’t wait to return!
Had an amazingly time here last night experiencing the Peruvian tasting menu. Erika the waitress was lovely and explained each dish she brought to us. All were delish, favourite for me was the Confit Suckling Pig. We will be coming back for sure 👌
such a warm atmosphere created by the staff and the food was incredible! photos are from tasting menu, each course was beautifully presented and the waiter was very informative of every single detail. the dish with scollops was my fave, so mouthwatering. the staff were so accommodating to our needs, my partner was not feeling well before the meal but I forced him to go and the staff gave him some dessert to take home 🥺 it’s the little things that make a wonderful restaurant, we would definitely go back again!
Went here with my wife for her birthday today. We had an awesome food experience and the quality of the food, ingredients were very good, well presented with fresh flavors. It is always an exciting time for us to try out new cuisine, especially when it turns out great. This was our first experience of Peruvian cuisine and it did not disappoint. I know some reviews said the portions were small but both my wife and I were full after a starter, main and dessert each. We shared all dishes and worked out well. The 25% voucher discount made it well worth the visit and we will definitely go again to try the other items on the changing menu. Our waitress, Daniela was awesome, had good knowledge of the menu and recommended us well. Thanks for an awesome dinner.
This restaurant was just amazing. We had the tasting menu. It was out of this world. They really go the extra mile, with authentic ingredients sourced, creative recipes, bringing traditional Peruvian flavours and colours, into the world of ground breaking fine dining and presentation that is artistic and fun. Add to that the exceptional service. They had plenty of staff and our waiter was a credit to the place. Seemingly taking great pride in his work and sharing information with passion, about some foods that most English people will have never heard of. Never intrusive, but, always attentive. Highly recommend to anyone wanting something a bit special.
Had a ball of a time here! With goodness knows how many vivid if not bordering on garish plates of delicate fish and succulent meats, Chakana really knows how to wow. The vegetarian options are a bit less wonderful, but otherwise the menu is brimming with rich, sumptuous and visually dazzling choices. My friends and I quickly found ourselves ordering more and more food despite clearly having enough, including a whole second round of desserts because they were just that good. The atmosphere was warm and bustling, yet pleasant and not too loud, and the staff were both friendly and knowledgeable. It's not the cheapest restaurant, but totally worth a visit - just try not to get as carried away as we did!
Phenomenal Peruvian food - the sea bass and tuna ceviche were both incredible. Fantastic cocktails. Warm, friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommend!
Fantastic food! Full of flavours and colour. A good selection of dishes and the staff is very helpful and friendly! The cocktails are creative and fancy looking. The restaurant is very different from what you’ll find in UK in general and even the food combinations are different from what I’ve seen in other restaurants. Absolutely would recommend!
I would safely say this is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. The taster menu was a great experience - each dish seemed so unique with ingredients and combinations I’ve never heard of before (tigers milk was delicious). The staff really put effort into talking through each dish and the intention of the different flavours. I think the pricing is very reasonable, and with that taken into account it further justifies my claim that this one of the best restaurants I’ve been to
The food is absolutely amazing!! I cannot recommend Chakana enough, I have been around 6 times or more now. Always fantastic, every time, and the menu is so interesting and it changes too!
Very up-market Peruvian restaurant in the heart of Moseley. We were very impressed by the etiquette of the staff, the very warm welcoming that we recieved upon arrival was greatly recieved. Ben especially whom built excellent rapport with his customers added that extra attention to detail by offering us detailed descriptions of the menu and offering his best suggestions. The friendliness and heart warming character in Ben wasn't overlooked by us! We wholey appreciated his efforts! Tipped. The restuarant is immaculate; the room is well lit and open spaced with beautiful art work on the walls. We recieved some unique purple corn bread and Peruvian sauce as an offering to begin with which was a nice touch. Each dish has it's own personality, they were light and delicate however very palatable and very fulfilling! We could not fault any of it, we thoroughly enjoyed it. Shout out to the Chef!
We went to this restaurant for my partners dad's birthday. The atmosphere was really good and service was excellent. The food had Peruvian theme running through with a fine dining twist. All the dishes we tried were executed to a high level. Don't miss out on this place!
First time booking with First Table and my first visit to Chakana after being recommended it …and it didn’t disappoint. The food and service were absolutely faultless. Sanjeev was really knowledgeable about the menu and drinks, and his friendly, attentive service made the experience even better. Even though the restaurant was full by 7pm, he and the whole team were fantastic. I’d love to come back again. Thank you!
Great food, real top notch Sunday dinner with a Peruvian twist. Great pisco to wash it down and really nice interior and settings. Sanjeev in particular was excellent in attending to us and making sure we didn’t go wanting for anything! The gravy that came with the roast in particular was delicious!
Had the tasting menu as an anniversary celebration and it was delightful! Every course was delicious but I'll be dreaming about that suckling pig for the foreseeable and the 'happy anniversary' plate was a lovely touch! All the staff were brilliant, especially San who we had a great laugh with.
We visiting Chakana for the first time on Saturday evening for a family birthday. We enjoyed eye-catching vibrant plates of food packed with layers of flavour. I loved the signature Maracuya Sours. We will be back!
Chakana Birmingham offers great value for money with flavourful dishes and friendly, attentive service. The menu has some standout items, though I felt the food presentation could be varied as some dishes looked a bit similar in style. The interior is pleasant but could benefit from a more subtle and refined touch to elevate the dining experience. Overall, a good spot for fine dining at a good price.
A good find. Charming Peruvian restaurant with Japanese/Peruvian food offering. We went for the tasting menu with wine pairing and were very impressed. Tasty and unusual dishes and good wine. We had a great night and the staff are lovely.
The reviews here had been very good and I have heard lots of good things. I went with a vegetarian so it was a good opportunity to try both the veggie tasting menu and the non veg tasting menu. The vegetarian menu seemed to lack variety, there were a couple dishes that had the exact same sauces etc but just a different vegetable. One of the dishes was very vinegary and unfortunately this was the dish that was duplicated. Upon asking a staff member if it was the same dish with just a different vegetable they confirmed. The non veg menu was ok, their was one or two nice dishes howver for a tasting menu and the price that is paid its not something I would say was a stand out tasting menu experience. In general the staff were very friendly. There was one issue where we had one lady who was serving us throughout the night and was aware there was one veggie and one non veg. For one dish another lady took over and served non veg to the vegetarian which luckily was spotted by us. The lady who served this was not apologetic and just took the dish away and brought the vegetarian one.
