We had a spectacular dinner here. The only difficult part of the night was choosing what to order. Our seats at the chefs counter made it almost impossible to choose what to get because everything looked and smelled so darn delicious. Shrimp scampi toast, we had to resist the urge to order 6 and just have that. Good thing because the meatballs were also so good I wanted a giant straw to slurp them up like some unholy Italian boba tea. The pastas were great and so were the desserts. The ribeyes were taunting me by the time we left and when we come back thats what I will order. P.s. we did order a burger to go due to us going end of the season and we were so happy late night eating that burger.
Perfect dinner in a beautiful location! The walkway leading up to the Barn was lovely and the food was outstanding. We had the Brussels, oysters, salmon, and Cornish hen, followed by the mocha dessert and the coconut Panna cotta. All of it was to die for! The patio was nicely heated for the chilly evening and the views of the water were incredible. Would highly recommend! @forever.a.nomad
Most romantic restaurant on Block Island with exceptional food and service. My fiancé and I dined at The Barm last evening and were totally blown away. We were seated in the back outside tent that had a glimpse of the water. The tables outside were dressed with white linen tablecloths, fine china and a candle. White sheer fabric with sparking lights decorated the ceiling above. Our waiter, Sunny, was courteous and attentive. Our meal started with two delicious cocktails and a small crusty fresh baguette with a dish of olive oil and garlic. We shared a Mediterranean salad which was scrumptious and plentiful My fiancé had the special which was Striped Bass and I had the Halibut with fresh vegetables that were grown in their garden. Both were magnificently prepared and presented, and tasted divine. The manager even checked in on us during our meal to make sure everything was perfect, and greeted us again as we were leaving. It was a perfect evening and I highly recommend The Barn to anyone looking for somewhere to dine that is 5 stars on Bock Island. Note: There was also a large garden of Sunflowers next to the parking lot that made a beautiful backdrop for photography.
Review from 2022: this place is now, in my opinion, the best restaurant on the island - been coming to BI for many many summers - The Barn has been consistently quality and evolved to an amazing establishment and a must! Review from 2019: Great Block Island hidden gem. You walk up to this place and it screams New England. You are doing a disservice to yourself if you don’t sit at the bar overlooking the two amazing chefs. My wife and I had the Oysters Rockefeller and Lamb Lollipops to start - they were fantastic. We then had the Ribeye and the Osso Buco - again off the charts - I definitely recommend trying this place out - dress nice!
Little gem of a place. Limited menu, so look before you leap! Our food was spectacular. The scallops and brussel sprouts shouldn't be skipped for apps! Mella, our server was outstanding, certainly would return!
We had a wonderful evening and extraordinary dinner. Brad the host was incredibly friendly and welcoming when we arrived without reservations and our server Jacob took excellent care of us. The heirloom carrots were exquisite and the baked oysters delish. Favorite restaurant on the island!
Had a phenomenal dinner here with a group of 8. Walked in and were seated immediately. Service was excellent. Dinner and wine selection unmatched on the Island. Highly recommend to everyone!
Always delightful. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. We enjoy our every visit to The Barn!
One of the best meals I’ve had in decades! The ambience is incredibly unique and very non-traditional in comparison to all of BI’s nautical motifs. You can actually see the three chefs cooking in the kitchen and pushing out some damn good food. We had: charcuterie board, scallop app, bouillabaisse (the best I’ve ever had…ever,) and hen (I think? I paid no attention to the hubs poultry but he said it was divine, so there you go!) Anyway this is a must visit.
My wife and I decided to check out Block Island during the offseason. We have never been to Block Island during that time of year. The summer time can be so crazy busy and we wanted to experience Block Island during a more laid back time of year. We booked a room at The Inn at Spring House and dinner reservations for both nights at The Barn. We chose to sit at the counter overlooking the chefs cooking. What a cool experience to watch them work! My wife and I really enjoyed it. Both nights the food, service and overall experience was excellent! The head chef, Adolfo Munoz, is an incredible chef! His organization and skill during the dinner rush was incredible to watch. Our food was cooked perfectly and everything was delicious! We were both pleasantly surprised he was the chef for breakfast at the Inn at Spring Hill as well. What a treat to have a chef of his caliber cooking us breakfast! Obviously the breakfast was delicious both days as well. Chef Munoz was a pleasure to converse with as well. Thanks again Chef Munoz for such a great experience. You are a true professional and an asset to Spring House! We will definitely be returning to The Barn as well as the Inn at Spring Hill.
We love it here! Consistently amazing food and service. Best steaks and pistachio martinis. A must when visiting BI.
First time here. Bar is fantastic and restaurant is cozy and warm. Food presentation was incredible. Staff extremely attentive. Delicious cod and Caesar salad. Our server, Amanda, was great. Highly recommend!
Beautiful setting, staff was a little frazzled, food service staff learning, getting ready for the summer crowds. Those 3 chefs rocked the open kitchen. Our food was awesome!! Our table candle never got lit, I wasn't going to ask.
Great food and service. Reservations are needed during peak season.
Probably the nicest dining experience I’ve ever had. Food was amazing! I had the pork chop and it was the BEST one I’ve ever had. Very nice setting out on the porch and very friendly waitresses. Thanks for the experience!
We had a wonderful meal here...service was excellent! The filet mignon might have been the best ever, seasoned and cooked perfectly...not an easy task when you like it black and blue! Highly recommend..can't wait to go back!
Excellent service, excellent food. The chef is an expert at cooking on the wood grill. Several servers were involved in our dining experience so we always had plenty of attention and wanted for nothing.
A must visit. The food and cocktails were incredible, the atmosphere is intimate and warm. I love kids, but it is so nice to dine with peace and quiet and company of other adults. Our server was very kind, and all of the plates were timed out perfectly. Also really cool to watch the chef while your dining, they made a point to tell us to have a good evening as well, which was nice! Will be back on our next visit!
Absolutely exceptional experience. Came here for my birthday dinner and was blown away with the atmosphere, service and quality of food. We split the meatball appetizer and the ribeye and both were immaculate. I had the black and blue martini w/ blue cheese stuffed olives and was in heaven. I pretty much only drink beer but this cocktail blew me away. Will absolutely be back and hopefully stay in the hotel after reading about the history!
We were truly impressed by the food at The Barn. It was our first time there, tho we’ve been coming to Block Island forever. There’s no ambiance to speak of — it’s basically an old house (i guess) and we sat in the room with the bar — nobody was sitting outside although there are a few tables out there (no view and it was chilly). However, the food was excellent. The artichokes appetizer was a real standout, especially as it’s hard to find artichokes anywhere. Perfectly cooked. My scallops entree, beautifully presented on a polenta cake and dotted with color such as edamame and cherry tomatoes, was delicious, tho 4 scallops were $46. My husband’s wood-grilled pork chop ($43) was also perfectly cooked and flavorful, tho the green beans were oddly tough. We each took half our dishes home so we could try the pistachio cake, which was light as air. Our server was perfect. Well done, everyone!
The food (scallops and lamp lollipops) was amazing, and our server was the perfect mix of attentive without being overbearing. This was our favorite meal after a week on Block Island!
Very special place on a very special island ❤️ Great food, wonderful service, very accommodating all throughout. Warmth, hospitality and professionalism right on point. Many thanks for all the good experiences!
We absolutely loved our experience at The Barn 🖤. Kasey was an amazing server with bubbly attitude. Always checking on us and making sure are needs were met 🤌🏻. Thank you we def coming back.
The food was delicious and the ambiance was excellent. We went there to celebrate a special occasion and it felt like the perfect spot to celebrate. The wood fired flavors are totally worth the price. Every bite was amazing. It was cool to see the chefs cooking over open fire and seeing a little bit of smoke traveling to the dining area. The meats and seafood were cooked to perfection. The drinks were great. The service was great. Highly recommend!
By far the best restaurant we ate at during our visit to Block Island. Farm-to-table, chef driven menu that rotates seasonally. Everything was prepared excellently and to our preferences, service was great, and the restaurant had a great ambiance that felt cozy and upscale, but not too pretentious. Will definitely come back!
This is really the place to go on Block Island for exceptional food and service to match. These people are passionate and are executing at a high level.
The best. sinethemba the chef was awesome. The waitress , Maya was excellent’! Great atmosphere
Great dinner at the Barn at Spring House which was packed with local folks on a Friday night. We sat at the bar which had a great volume level for conversation. The bartender and service were excellent as was the food. Sausage-stuffed mushrooms were tasty and an excellent portion size and fingerling potatoes were super crispy. The specials the night we went were outstanding: cream of asparagus soup and gnocchi with duck confit. Only improvement would be a little more variety in beer offerings.
Fantastic meal, great drinks, nice atmosphere - though a little crowded. Friendly staff. Small bar in front with larger dining room outback, there is also a covered deck for with tables. Scallop appetizer was very good, bouillabaisse was delicious! Great drinks. This was our favorite meal on the island during our stay. Seemed to have many locals, too.
Quaint and cozy. This is a Great place to have dinner at. We've been there multiple times and each time there we have always had a very nice server or bartender. Food is Consistently great.. One of our must stop spots when visiting Block Island
I had a great evening. Wonderful dinner it was ........ I was dinning with my wife for the first time trying the Barn. They welcome you with a friendly smile, clean dining room.... the ambiance. The food was delicious we had Lam lollipop "char grilled "with arugula and pomegranate . The filet mignon and the tomahawk it was to die for, it melts in your palate . To the chef and your team from front of house to back of house you have out done yourself .
My husband and I along with a friend of ours had dinner at the Barn on Saturday night as our previous dinner plans fell through. We were supposed to dine at the Block Island Oyster Bar and Grill, but less than an hour before our dinner reservation, the management called to inform us they could not seat us or any parties that evening, as their was a Covid-19 related issue and they had to address the problem. We have eaten at the Barn before and had a great experience, but it was quite some time ago. My husband started calling around to see what might be available at some of the other local establishments. We were able to get a table a the Barn for 6:30. Let me just say we had an amazing experience!! The food, service and atmosphere were pure perfection. Our server had actually waited on us at Victoria's at Spring House back in May over Memorial Day Weekend. I had the Pan Roasted Local Cod....it was terrific. My husband and our friend shared a steak dish that was on the special's menu. They loved it. Our appetizers were fantastic. The entire evening was incredible. Thank you for such an amazing experience! We were really worried we wouldn't get a reservation anywhere, as most restaurants had nothing available.
Ate there three nights ago. Fabulous. Outdoor dining is fantastic. Awesome view of the ocean and just a very pleasing setting. Roasted oysters app was delicious. I never had oysters served that way before. I also had some of my wife’s panzanella salad. Huge salad. Delicious top quality tomatoes and cucumber. Really excellent. I had the bouillabaisse. Best I’ve ever had. The sauce was perfect and plentiful and the seafood was insane. Huge shrimp, scallops, fish, huge clams and half a lobster. I was stuffed. My wife loved the halibut which was probably a 3/4 pound cut and their chocolate toffee dessert was also awesome. This place is a must go. It checks every box.
In my opinion, this is one of Block Islands best kept secrets. I cannot speak highly enough about the food here. I absolutely love the atmosphere, it’s a very cozy place. One of my favorite features of the restaurant is their kitchen, the chiefs cook on an open flame in front of you. It’s as if you’re in your own home. My favorite items on the menu are the, Roaster Brussel Sprout, Filet Mignon and the Salmon Entree. This restaurant is located directly behind the Spring House, best of all, they’re pretty much open all year round. ( If your not familiar with Block Island, that’s extremely rare ) You’ll need a reservation most of the time so make sure to call a head. Do not pass up having the opportunity to eat here.
I had the opportunity to live an unforgettable dining experience at The Barn at Spring House, and I can certainly say that it is one of the best restaurants in all of Rhode Island. From the moment you enter, the atmosphere is elegant, welcoming and intimate, perfect for enjoying a special evening. The open kitchen and the use of wood-burning grill make each dish taste authentic and spectacular, something that really elevates the culinary experience. Every detail, from presentation to service, is simply impeccable. But what really makes the difference is the talent of chef Adolfo Muñoz. His passion, creativity and dedication are reflected in every dish that comes out of the kitchen. The flavours are unique, perfectly balanced and with a quality that exceeds all expectations. There is a love for gastronomy and a commitment to offer only the best to each diner. Without exaggeration, I consider Chef Adolfo Muñoz to be the best chef in all of Rhode Island. Its culinary level is at the height of the greats, making every visit to the restaurant a memorable experience. If you are looking for a place where the food, atmosphere and talent of the chef come together to create something extraordinary, The Barn at Spring House is undoubtedly the best choice.
We frequent The Barn and it never disappoints! We had an intimate table for two overlooking the water and then after our delicious meal we paid Annie a visit at the bar-for a digestive—Annie makes the best old fashions and martinis! It’s upscale dining with a home town feel!
Always a great meal and the staff is fantastic. Sat st the bar and Tristan and Mehigh (sp?) were such great bartenders. Lamb lollipops and artichokes were a great starters. The halibut is always very good. I do wish they had more specials BUT everything is good.
Stumbled into The Barn on a Sunday evening...warm, cozy and cheery. Sat at the chef's counter in front of three chef's(?) watching them do their magic. Reviewing the menu, the Bouillabaisse seemed to call my name with some coaxing from the chef zone. Just wanted dinner-warm, cozy, done and delicious. So much so, reserved for our anniversary a few nights later. On to the night-weekday. Arrived to be graciously seated in what felt like tight quarters a room in the barn. It's a weeknight. Barn-made rolls arrive with a dish of roasted garlic bathed in olive oil. Menus arrive...extensive wine selection and quantity, but limited food selection + Specials + Sides. Steak options – filet mignon or tomahawk rib eye for three! The bride went with swordfish and the Pantanella Salad of heirloom tomatoes. When asked which of the heirloom tomatoes-brandywine, cherokee purple, green zebra, persimmon, speckled roman-to name a few; we were told - the red and the green ones. Regardless, it was delicious. A must have. Mr. Meathead loved the filet with fingerling potatoes, adding the roasted garlic sent it over the top. Add to that - our attentive server was an islander. A charmed evening!
Despite having a rather limited menu, everything was quite good and we found lots to enjoy. And despite it being offseason, the place was actually well attended. Cocktails limited and somewhat hit or miss but creative and enjoyable nonetheless. Definitely could use more dessert options though. Social distancing and covid precautions handled well. Apparently they just remodeled this summer or fall . Strongly recommended even though there's nothing specific we can rave about, overall just he's a very good dinner.
Used to be great. Idk what happened. The service was remarkably bad tonight. It is clear people are not well trained. No drinks offered at the bar while we waited for our table. They plopped the bread and oil in front of one person at the table instead of making space in the middle of the table. They got one of the meal orders completely wrong, but tried to get us to take it twice. The server reached over everyone every time she came to the table. The vibe didn't feel at all like it used to. Other's food was ok but I was served a bad piece of lobster with a funky claw with holes in the shell and weird looking meat in it. Once I saw it I sent the dish back. Manager came over to discuss 20 minutes later when it was far too late to properly remedy. They took the meal off the bill but there was no apology for serving off seafood. I am really hoping I don't get sick. Can't imagine we'll be back. Used to be our #1 BI dinner spot. Very disappointing.
Great food, remarkably subpar service. The food: French onion soup was superb. Haddock and ribeye (along with their accompanying veggies/potatoes) were well cooked and perfectly seasoned. Service: - Significant gap between seating and initial server contact - Server switched immediately and without introduction - Unreasonably long delay between soup service and entrees (think 45 minutes) - Extra soup and beer sent to table (soup was sent to the wrong table, beer was likely because of poor communication between waitstaff) - Wait staff repeatedly walked by table after we were clearly finished without checking in Ambience: Well decorated space but fairly stuffy with the grill in the main dining room. I did hear they haven’t been open long this season, but it is a weak excuse for the poor service which led to an overall underwhelming dining experience.
My friend and I had dinner at the Barn last Thursday, April 17th. The food and table service was excellent; however, we asked to sit in the white room near the window and was told it was reserved by the hostess on that evening. We ended up sitting in the darker room with no view. Our entire dinner lasted 1.5 hours and no one ever sat in the two seated table near the window. I mentioned this to one of the waitresses and hopefully she let the manager know. We were disappointed. Sorry.... maybe better service next time.....
Went on Saturday evening as it was within walking distance of our hotel and the menu looked amazing. We didn't make a reservation in advance because we checked OpenTable and there was plenty of availability. When we got to the restaurant, there were plenty of open tables but they sat us directly next to two other couples (understand if they're trying to close or the other sections to prep for next day) but it would have been nice for a bit more space and not to be right on top of the other couples. Food and drink were awesome. The culinary team did an outstanding job. Would definitely return for food. The service however was left to be desired. In the middle of us eating dinner (around 9pm or so) the server brought us boxes, unasked. We thought it was a bit odd to do that and felt we were being rushed. We decided to order dessert and we were debating on taking it to go but then said we'd have it there and the server brought our dessert over in a box and dropped the check. We were there celebrating my birthday and though we did not say that we were, no one had made any sort of conversation, the type you typically would have as a server to find out why someone was visiting, if they had been before, how long they're here, etc. I have a hospitality background and thought a lot of service aspects were missed or just ignored. On OpenTable, they were accepting reservations as late as 9:30pm. If you're advertising that you can take a 9:30pm reservation, where someone would arrive at 9:30pm, why rush tables that are eating at 9pm? Not sure if they did that because it was a slow night and wanted to get out of there or what but it was really disappointing they did this. Another couple we know who ate here on the exact same night as us, earlier in the night, told us their server dropped off the check mid dinner and didn't even ask them if they wanted dessert. Would not recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a relaxed dinner as they will likely rush you out but if you are looking for food to go, they clearly have that covered.
The setting and interior of this restaurant are about the only thing we enjoyed last night. Girls weekend and birthday celebration that was left to a cramped table sandwiched between two other parties, a complete Disregard to our request when we reserved our table online. We even asked to be moved outside to the beautiful deck and we were told those tables were taken already. It was 7:30 on a Thursday night and the place was half empty by 8pm. While the lamb lollichops were delicious, the pomegranates were a good pop of flavor, bringing the Tuscan bean soup 10 seconds after our lollichops arrived was not becoming of such a fine dining establishment. If your going to charge $26 for an appetizer, give me a minute to enjoy it. We kindly asked our server bring the soup in a few minutes, which she did reluctantly with surprise at the request in her face. At this point seeing the open tables in half of the restaurant while we were sandwiched in the loud corner, we decided it was time to go and not invest in more of the 5 Star priced entrees for the 3 Star service.
To start, the menu on their website is entirely different and much smaller than the one given to you at the table. We were extremely disappointed. The appetizers were great, the tuna tar tar and muscles were fantastic. We were served a basket of bread (mind you, around 25 minutes into already having been seated). It was already small, and we are 6 people when a 2 person table is sharing the same size basket of bread. So, we asked for more to dip into the mussel broth. The waitress brought out about a quarter as much as we got initially, it was honestly so weird and almost cringy that a restaurant charging so much for their dishes skimps on bread…? The mains were fine. Lemon chicken was good, I would say the filet is probably the best as it has the most flavor. Though overall, not really worth the price, and the options were extremely limited. Sides lacked a lot of flavor, for example the fingerling potatoes were very bland. The bathroom was gross. It is shared gender bathrooms which is perfectly fine, but there was pee sprayed all over the toilet seat and floor… also our waitress was really not very nice at all. Used to be such a great place. Not sure what happened.
I really wanted to love it here. We had a reservation with Open Table that was confirmed, however, the restaurant had no record of us coming. This was beyond awkward. The four of us ended up sitting at a table for ten. Odd and uncomfortable. The meal was mediocre at best. I sent my medium rare steak tips back as they were well done. My husband's turkey dish was so salty that he didn't take his leftovers home. Our friend's pasta was amazing leaving us both feeling jealous. Overall, there are many better dining options on the Island.
I wish I could tell you what eating here was like. Sadly, although I made a reservation on Open Table and confirmed on the Block Island app, the Barn was closed when I arrived. Since it was off season on Block Island, there was literally no other restaurant open and the only grocery store had closed for the day. The inn where I was staying had yogurt in the frig and I had some cheese and crackers that I brought with me to the island. Hope I get to eat at The Barn another time.
Lamb chops were the only special offered Meat was tough and cut thin to medium in thicknesses. The other three had good meals however when you offer a special it should be special
Unfortunately, this restaurant really disappointed us last night. Our server, Amanda, was lovely and accommodating, but that couldn't make up for the quality of the food. The one thing that was delicious was the garlic olive oil dip for the rolls. Here were the problems: Scallops served on butternut puree was dreadful and had to be sent back. The strong smell of fish was the first red flag. Then, the puree was cold, the scallops very salty, and the flavor overall just wrong. Next, Panzenella Salad with burrata was not Panzenella, but dry unseasoned croutons throughout. Cucumber chunks instead of slices were sloppy. Dressing was flavorless, burrata served ice cold. A dish that could have been delicious was made without finesse Carrot cake: why drizzle loads of raspberry sauce on carrot cake? So 1980s, to drizzle everything in a sauce, and to use a sauce that doesn’t mix well with the main item is thoughtless and sloppy.
Brought the family to the spring house hotel for dinner and drinks out on the lawn sitting among the beautiful Adirondack chairs. Wonderful views, but not much to say positively beyond that. We ordered drinks and a number of shared plates (limited menu outside) for our family of six (including two under two years). We had dinner reservations inside, but thought we could keep the chaos of our young children outside on the lawn so that it wouldn’t be shared by others. Promptly after ordering, we were served our drinks. Another forty five minutes passed without food, so we politely inquired to make sure we were not mistaken as to being served outside. The staff confirmed our order. Another half hour went by, but no food. At this point, we were approaching our two year olds bedtime. We again flagged down waitstaff and we’re informed it should not be much longer. We waited until more than an hour and a half after placing our order (for small shared plates: buffalo cauliflower bites, sliders, etc) until we informed our waitress that we would need to cancel our food order. She went inside to check again and assured us the food “was ready and would be right out”. If this were true then I would expect the food would be there after several Inquiries. Regardless, we said no thank you as we were past our allotted time. Things happen and it was a busy summer night. The more infuriating part was when the manager came out to speak to us. He said that he did not understand why we were cancelling our order that was ready. I was stunned at how brazen he was that he felt we were the ones being unreasonable. A simple apology or acknowledgment that they were busy and the kitchen was behind (or our order was misplaced) would have gone a long ways. Oh well.
