Opinions de The Dining Room at the Vanderbilt Newport
Just had one of the best Thanksgiving meals ever. Fantastic food, creative, tasty, perfectly prepared & served, visually appealing. Every member of the restaurant team was stellar in all aspects; especially during an all day, continuous flow of hungry families. One of the standouts was our main server, Tiffany. The atmosphere, decor, and comfortable rustic ambiance added to this world-class dining experience.
LOVED absolutely everything about this place! I am sad that I count try everything. The servers and staff was very considerate. Having explained about portions and being vegetarian...they did everything they could to accommodate it without us having to request. The food was delicious! I am in awe of the Ribolitta they served and would love to shout out about it from the Newport lighthouses. I could not take better pictures due to the lighting. The prices are competitive with other restaurants in the area and is nothing over the top. I would have been more cognizant about dress code, but we had been traveling and were exhausted. Definitely would be coming here again. Highly highly recommend!
Everything about this restaurant is perfect. Atmosphere is sooooo romantic. Great vibe! The food was amazing and the waitress was beyond sweet! Fabulous drink menu. Get the pistachio bourbon drink. You must go!!
If you go to Newport at some point you must eat here. Not only was my food delicious, my cocktail the paper tiger was one of my five to cocktails, anywhere, ever! This is nice quiet spot for couples or small get togethers. Loved the Christmas decorations.
We went to the Newport Hour, the Vanderbilt’s version of Happy Hour on a Friday night this winter. We got the first seats at the bar which filled up quickly. The mixologists were awesome. Drinks were delicious. We tried several from their curated menu. The ambiance is great. The classy, classic setting combines history with modern menu twists. The anchovy toast was magical, oysters fresh & delicious, bread and butter was dreamy. We were a mix of couples, & friends.
Three in my party dined here and all had an amazing meal. The quality of the food was outstanding. We started with shrimp cocktail, smoke haddock croquettes, and garden salad. All excellent. The main courses consisted of duck which was cooked perfectly as was the ribeye for two. I selected the Frenzy Sauvignon Blanc and was very pleased. For dessert we tried collectively the sticky toffee pudding. It was a spice cake with coffee ice cream and a caramel base. All in all the ambience was excellent and staff was good as well.
We had such a great experience at the Vanderbilt dining room. The atmosphere was dark and moody in the best way — it gave off a true old money vibe that made the whole night feel a little more special. We started with raw oysters, clams, and Old Bay cocktail shrimp, and everything was sooo good — super fresh and flavorful. We also split a Caesar salad (because why not?) before diving into our main dinner, which we picked off the specials list: steak frites, cooked perfectly medium rare. Every bite was delicious. Already looking forward to coming back!
When you want to escape the tourist riff raf of Newport and enjoy an elegant old world dining room, look no further than here. The ambiance is 1st class, without being pretentious and quiet where you can actually hold a conversation over dinner. The cocktails we started off with were all expertly made, I had the sweet heat while my friend ordered the nomadic old fashioned and my wife ordered the paper tiger. For food we had 2 Royal’s(burgers) and they were ligit, so so good. My wife had the Harry’s Bar Ham & Gruyère, very, very good. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for.
A classic restaurant, offering a prix fixe menu for Christmas Day. The atmosphere was wonderful, resembling a colonial style, New Orleans like environment. There was live music. The food was great, very tasty and plenty. After dinner, the restaurant manager gave us a quick tour of the rest of the hotel. It was a great visit.
My husband and I dined here for our 8th wedding anniversary. The food and service were top notch. The tableside Vanderbilt Martini was the smoothest martini I've ever had. The Lover's Gimlet was wonderful as well. I highly recommend the Berkshire Pork, Green Asparagus Burrata, and the Artichoke dish. For dessert, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding and the chocolate nemesis. 5 stars all around!
The atmosphere here was amazing, specially for a brunch. The service was amazing and the drinks spectacular. It has like a man vibe with the blue colors and the notes perceived in the air are wonderful. We tried the duck potatoes and I was a pleasant discovery for us along with their classic lobster roll.
We were looking for upscale dining in town, something other than pub fare that seemed to be served at most places we walked by. Very pleased we decided on this place. The dark walls in the dimly lit dining room gave you privacy and had an intimate feel. Food was great. I had the fish croquettes, octopus and chicken liver mousse. All were delicious. I had a bite of the duck which was also very good. I'd go back if I am ever in the area again.
10/10 experience! This was one of the best dining experiences we've had in a while. The service was outstanding! Very welcoming, kind, and just overall above and beyond. Snehil and Martha, thank you for making the experience so positive. They had a custom requested cocktail prepared for me and the signature martini for my fiance was mixed tableside in a show of sorts. He said it was the best martini of his life! We ordered the octapus to split and it was so tender and well prepared we wished we ordered another one. But we're glad we didn't so had an appetite for our main courses. We ordered the duck and salmon dishes. The duck was truly mouth watering. I have eaten a lot of duck in my life and this one is a standout. My compliments to the chef, you blew me away. The salmon was also cooked perfectly. And then we ordered the pavlova and they made us feel extra special with decorating it for our celebration. We will be back...soon!
We loved all of our experiences at The Dining Room. From the amazing and attentive staff to the delicious cuisine served there, 5 stars does not do them justice! If you get the chance, try the Behind the Oyster experience. What a treat!
No surprises here. An atmosphere of luxury from the past is evident in all areas of the property that we were able to see during our brief visit. We were on a cruise, reached port early in the day, and made the short trek to The Vanderbilt for breakfast. Quiet, subdued luxury is the vibe here. Standard breakfast fare is offered. Our meals were well prepared and presented nicely. Service was fast and friendly. The price was consistent with a meal from an establishment that has the name "Vanderbilt". All-in-all a nice experience at a price I expected.
I made reservations and visited for brunch with my family. Quite a charming resort and dining area, wonderfully decorated and had a very welcoming feel. The brunch was very good and the cocktails were outstanding. The service was impeccable, and the staff was incredibly friendly. I will certainly visit this place again for a meal and hopefully stay the weekend in the near future.
My family and I had Thanksgiving dinner here. The hotel is beautiful and we loved the ambiance. The food was pretty basic and not exciting. It was a pre fix menu and there wasn’t many choices. The food was bland, but nicely presented. The service was great. It was cozy and a nice place to spend Thanksgiving with my family.
I love the dark walls and cozy, relaxed, yet stately feel of the restaurant. The back-lit bar is the focal point of the room and sets a lively tone. We sat at the opposite wall where there is a long bench with dark velvet seating, which is a bit higher than the chairs opposite of the table. So it felt a little funny, but not a deal breaker. The chicken entree was very dry and they offered to comp desserts or more drinks, which was really nice. All of our other choices were excellent! We would go back again.

Dining at The Vanderbilt in Newport, Rhode Island, offers a luxurious and memorable experience. The historic mansion-turned-boutique hotel features elegant dining spaces, including a formal dining room, a casual conservatory, and a stunning rooftop bar with views of Newport Harbor. The service one server was not quite friendly for us but overall was ok. The menu showcases fresh, locally sourced ingredients with a mix of classic and contemporary dishes. The extensive wine list, creative cocktails, and craft beers complement the food offerings. The fries are way too salty need to ask for water again and again. The server never ask how to cook meat, and serves very well-cooked meat. While dining at The Vanderbilt is on the pricier side, the exceptional quality of the food, service, and ambiance makes it worth the cost, especially for special occasions or casual.
