Want a worthwhile dining experience when in Bodega Bay? Check out Drakes, as we recently celebrated there with a birthday dinner. The food was delicious. We shared a large Young Lettuce Salad that was fantastic. For entrees, my partner loved her halibut, especially the sides; I went with the oven-roasted chicken, which was one of the most tender and flavorful pieces of poultry I have ever experienced. For dessert, my partner enjoyed a piece of birthday cake, while I enjoyed three scoops of gelato. Excellent finale. Wine selection is good, with a number of choices "by the glass." Service was great. Our server was attentive, prompt and personable. He answered our questions, which helped us in making our selections. The environment is very nice; for attire, we saw everything from jeans to sport coats. Views look out onto the water. The restaurant was packed on a Saturday night -- in the dining room, bar and at outside fire pits. Noise level was pretty high, but easy to talk over. We stopped at one of the fire pits one the way out to combat the chilly January night. If you want a great dining experience when in Bodega Bay, check out Drakes.
We absolutely loved it! Heaven on Earth! Luis made us feel like princesses! The food was amazing! We enjoyed our cocktails. The views are spectacular with the fire pits when it's chilly you will never want to go home! :-)
Wow!! This hidden gem is a wonderful find! Took my boy Brey to Dillon Beach and then here for brunch. The roads in the area are dicey- on the level of Hwy 1 but worth it. I had the BEST Eggs Benedict of my life!! Seriously the potatoes were cooked exactly how I like crispy on the outside soft inside- nothing soggy or mushy. The bearnaise was perfect, I love when they stick to traditional English muffins and ham- both excellent! Egg poached perfectly. I fear I am now ruined for any other eggs Benny!! In fact a place I subsequently went and ordered used brioche bread - which soaked up all the good flavors and left w w a mouthful of bread!! Thank you for what will likely be the Eggs Benedict that all future EB will be compared with!! Phenomenal!
I was a bit hesitant to try this place out due to some of the mixed reviews, but it was an incredible dinner experience! Beautiful coastal views and outstanding service from the restaurant staff. My daughter’s “butter noodles” were even delicious. Highly recommend the clams with chorizo and the pork chop mains.
Our table was by the window, so we had a beautiful view of the bay. Scarlet, our waitress did a great job of pacing our meals so that we could thoroughly enjoy our cocktails before dinner arrived. Both dishes, the pork chop and halibut were divine. The pork chop was cooked to perfection with a lovely mango salsa and mushroom bread pudding. A unique and yummy combination. The halibut was stewed in a corn miso broth with fresh tomatoes and summer squash. Both dishes had wonderfully developed flavors.
Beautiful service with kind and sincere staff. Our meals were well crafted with excellence and clear talent from the chefs. Wonderful pairings within the menu between Entrees and their accompanied sides. Everything served was certainly made with passionate hands. Our view of the tides of Bodega Bay beautifully encompassed the serene atmosphere and gave a relaxing experience. Quality food and quality service. We enjoyed a blessed evening and look forward to returning for our anniversary. The Lord has been good to us, especially with their banana bread pudding dessert.
Excellent service. Gorgeous location. Lovely inside and out. Kind, courteous and professional servers. Food is top of the line. Excellent flavor and presentation. Eating here was quite the treat. I highly recommend it. Sunset views are romantic.
The best place to watch a sunset with a cocktail and great food. Drakes has outstanding service, a vegan/vegetarian menu, and the view from the bar is the best kept secret.
The service and food are exceptional! We only visited for breakfast, but the atmosphere was just what the doctor ordered. We did not have reservations but that did not affect us getting amazing seats with a view. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Bodega Bay!

We booked a private room here for a good friend’s 50th Birthday. The food was fantastic and the staff was very helpful. It was a beautiful day & evening. We watched the sun go down over the pacific from our private room and patio, and finished the night around the fire pit on the patio.
My husband and I had dinner here last night, and it was easily the best meal of our trip. We were able to make a reservation the same day. They were running a little behind when we arrived, but it was no issue for us and absolutely worth the wait. The host walked us over to the lounge bar, where we enjoyed drinks while waiting for our table. I ordered the Spiced Merchant, which was excellent — I would definitely recommend it if you enjoy rum. The food is priced on the higher end, but the quality, flavor, and portion sizes make it well worth it. My husband started with the Gem Caesar salad, and I had the beet carpaccio, which was incredible (and a must if you love beets). We also added a bread basket, which was a great addition. For our mains, my husband ordered the pork chop with mushroom bread pudding. He really enjoyed it, and the bite I tried was delicious. I ordered the ribeye. It doesn’t come with a traditional side, but we shared the sautéed mushrooms, which paired perfectly. My steak was cooked exactly right, and the chimichurri was outstanding. We finished with the crème brûlée special for dessert, which was fabulous and a perfect ending to the meal. Overall, the service was great and the food was even better. It’s definitely a splurge, but worth every penny. If you’re in the area, I highly recommend making a reservation and dining here. The only downside is parking if you’re not staying at the hotel (we weren’t). I suggest arriving a little early to allow time to find a spot.
Drakes Sonoma Coast Bodge Bay is absolutely the best food I’ve ever had near the ocean. The whole experience was amazing — from the food to the views to the friendly servers. My daughter ordered a shrimp dish that she really enjoyed, and my husband had something with chicken (I can’t remember exactly what, but he liked it). I ordered the halibut, which was perfectly cooked and delicious. At first we thought of sharing it with our daughter, but she said halibut wasn’t for kids, so we didn’t. Still, she had her own kid’s meal option, which was great. The servers were attentive, the atmosphere was beautiful with a nice ocean lookout, and everything felt so relaxing. It was such an amazing experience overall, and we’re definitely planning to come back again. Highly recommend!
The food is great. Most meals can be shared which 4 of our party of six did. The service was fantastic. And what can you say about atmosphere when on the coast. It wasn't noisy the Wednesday evening we went but it probably could be if the place was crowded. This evening was a 5 star night but other times it was a 4 star night.
My wife and I just celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary and Chef Brenda Lee’s menu and meals were delicious. We had wonderful service and attention provided by Wendy, Kelsey and Tommy. The seating, by the windows, provided spectacular views of the Sonoma coast. If you stop by early for a drink bartender Christian is very personable, a delight to engage about anything and everything.

First visit to this establishment. Wife had the duroc porkchop and I had the black rice bowl with halibut. Chocolate cake for dessert.
We made reservations for their earliest dinner at 5pm and they accommodated with helping us push it out 30minutes. Our server was, Kelsey, and she was super friendly and helpful. We arrived with our baby and was able to choose a booth to sit at so we can sit next to her and feed her too. We had the Hamachi, baked oysters, black cod, mussels with noodles, and a peach mocktail. The drink was a little on the sweeter end but the ice melting helped dilute it. My favorite were the chewy noodles with the mussels and the crispy exterior of the cod with corn sauce. We also ordered the artisan bread (comes freshly warm) with yummy seaweed butter. There’s a beautiful view by the windows too and lots of seating outside with a fire pit to relax at if you’re there for drinks. We also love the convenience of it next to the lodge we were staying at.

We started with the tomato salad and the scallop crudo. Neither was great. The tomatoes seemed cold which dampened their flavor, the dish lacked salt and the sour dough croutons were totally left off the plate. The crudo just didn’t taste good. Too much “stuff” ruined what should have been a simple dish highlighting the scallops. Orchiette was ok but also lacked salt. Salmon had a great crust to it but was overcooked and lacked flavor. Neither dessert was to our liking either. They forced a prix fixe menu which in almost every combination ended up more expensive than the individual dishes which I didn’t really appreciate. I know restaurants are struggle with staffing issues so I’m not going to ding them for that. Service was friendly and trying their best. If you’re staying at the lodge it’s obviously a convenient option but I personally would never go back for dinner again. Breakfast saved it a star since it was pretty good. Dinner was almost a total miss.
Overall disappointing experience. Started with a very odd window table arrangement which required you to sit at an angle to one another (2 people) and stare at the reflective windows. Oysters were small and had parts of shell. Mains were ok, halibut was over cooked and we found a pice of plastic in one dish. Service was hit and miss. Disappointing and didn’t stand up to what is a great hotel.

We were hit with an unexpected upcharge for just a couple of cucumber slices, never mentioned in advance. When I politely asked about it, the server (woman in her 30s, brown hair) reacted rudely and loudly, embarrassing me in front of my friends. She eventually removed the charge but only after saying it would come out of her own pay—making things even more awkward. On top of that, she first brought pickles instead of cucumbers, and it still took 20 minutes in total (and 4 reminders) to finally get the cucumbers. All this during a $250 meal. The food was good, but no diner spending that much should be treated with rudeness or made to feel uncomfortable. Management needs to work on transparency and professionalism.
Second time in Bodega Bay and I was ready to try Drakes that was highly recommended. Disappointed in the seasoning of our appetizer platter and fish dish. Over dressed salad and very slow service. Took 50mins to get our clam chowder! Oysters were the only great thing we had.
This restaurant was definitely the lowest point of my stay at Bodega Bay. How it has such a high star rating, does not make sense to me. I strongly recommend skipping this restaurant. The experience started off shaky. There is not enough parking for the amount of patrons this restaurant can service. We were seated by the window which had excellent views of the bay. Hence the three stars for atmosphere. My first dish was the soup of the day, New England Clam Chowder. It did taste pretty good, not the best one I have ever had but good. My husband outside of getting the wrong order at first, his baked clams were good. After glancing around the room we noticed that people were provided with bread. We never got bread nor asked if we wanted some. The main course…oh the main course. The positive: the sauce for the scallops was delicious. The scallops could of been cooked better but most of the plate was edible. Now the very not so positive: The ribeye steak was suppose to be cooked medium rare and it was tartare, had no flavor and I had to send it back. A manager stopped by our table and told us a round of drinks would be on the house for the inconvenience. We were grateful. The return of the steak, which took a while, was still not cooked properly. Now it was on the rare side but at least edible. So instead of sending it back I just ate most of it. The fingerling potatoes were bland, the pickled onions did not go with the meal. The fried onions were stale. I put a lot of salt on them and it did not help. This was a $56 steak!!! Not worth it. The dessert was good. I had the Pavlova. Avoid this restaurant!!!

Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was mediocre. Unseasoned halibut and shrimp, lukewarm warm butternut squash mash, Brussels sprouts covered with balsamic are what you can expect. The location and view is great. Fireside lounge might be the better choice if you can get a seat by the fire.
