Opinions de Rutba Indian Kitchen Bon-Air
This is a perfect place for date night. This restaurant was decorated very nicely with comfortable seating and use dim lighting that offers a romantic setting. We ordered: Chicken 65 - good flavor, it had a nice kick to it! Chili Milli Gobhi - this was delicious, the batter had a great crisp to it but the cauliflower instead wasn’t overcooked or mushy Goat Biryani - very good, they gave you a decent amount of meat and the rice had great flavor! Lamb Chops - perfectly cooked with great char on the outside. This came with potatoes and asparagus with a side of sauce that tastes similar to butter chicken. Overall - all the food was fresh and delicious. I will say that while the food was flavorful, the flavors were not as intense as how other Indian restaurants I’ve had. It’s more “muted”, which is not a bad thing but thought I’d point that out!
Absolutely Delicious! Our bartender Zinzi was so kind and polite. Rutba Indian Kitchen blew me away! The chilli milli gobi was bursting with flavor, the tikka masala was creamy perfection, and the garlic naan was soft with just the right char. Loved the mango lassi the taste was amazingly creamy and oh so refreshing. The fluffy basmati rice was flavorful. The Mango pudding was smooth and the chunks of fruits that were subtly mixed in took it over the edge. The Tamarind Twist was tangy and tasty. Warm service, beautiful presentation, and flavors that make you want to come back tomorrow! The food was a symphony of flavors that came together in a perfect matrimony.
My wife and I visited Rutba about a month ago and had a great experience. A few weeks later, we were heading back but found it very busy, so we decided to try another Indian restaurant at the Village Shopping Center up the road. Let’s just say that will be our last visit there. From now on, we’re happy to wait for a table at Rutba. It’s truly an amazing place. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the server was incredibly kind, and the owner took the time to answer all of our questions. As for the food—this is the best Indian cuisine my wife and I have ever had. The portions were very generous, and the flavors were absolutely outstanding. Very well price as well. We will definitely be returning many more times. Thank you for bringing such a wonderful restaurant to Midlothian. We can’t wait for our next visit!
Amazing! The food is fresh and flavors are perfect. The owner is very personable and friendly. This is by far the absolute best Indian restaurant we have gone to and is the ONLY one we will dine at. Prices are very reasonably priced and they provide a lot of protein in the dishes. Delicious doesn’t describe the dinners we have had here!
Best of everything. The manager is wonderful and remembers me every time I come. The lamb chops are AMAZING- flavorful and tender. Everyone here has been nice and the service is AMAZING! What a wonderful experience. I drive 30 minutes to eat here.
Rutba is a very relaxing and enjoyable place to get high quality Indian food. My family and I have never had a bad experience since we started eating here. The staff is always friendly and ontop of making sure our orders are in and our food is made fresh. The atmosphere is relaxing from the lightening to the seating and even to the music. The tables are always clean and the restaurant is well taken care of. I recommend visiting not only for good food but for the friendly staff and well taken care of restaurant. My family and I will definitely be back!
First Indian Restaurant to Make Food Spicy without just adding extra chili powder. I ordered a 5/4 Spicy on their Spice Scale for a Custom Curry, it was the Spiciest thing I've ever eaten, but I could still taste the flavor, and it didn't taste like it was just made out of Chilies. The Flavor on the Non-Spicy Curries was immaculate.
What I love besides the food is that they took an existing Wendy's and renovated it! The inside is very nice, clean, a lovely atmosphere. Extremely welcoming staff. We had lunch and it was really good. You have the selection of lunch entree, comes with soup or salad, a side of rice, side of chickpeas/potatoes (which was delicious), mango pudding and a lemon pickle (this was very different, it was like preserved lemon peel with a spicy sauce). Prices are good too. I can not wait to go back and try another dish! Pardon the pics, was so excited we started eating and then I realized I needed some photos. Many thanks to our server Aleana (sorry I am sure I have misspelled your name).
Don't let the building fool you—this is 5-star dining! My wife and I are always on the hunt for "special" Indian food, and Rutba just raised the bar for the South Side. Don't let the old Wendy’s building fool you; the moment you step inside, you are transported into a luxury, high-end dining atmosphere. The lunch special is an incredible value. It includes rotating soup, a veggie side, dessert, and their amazing garlic naan—which isn't just an "add-on," it’s delicious and distinct. We brought a Scout from my son's troop who had never tried Indian food before, and his eyes literally rolled back in his head eating the Lamb Korma. My son and I tried several new dishes (hard to spell, but easy to eat!) and every single one had a unique, vibrant flavor. Must-try items: • Garlic Naan (The best!) • Tandoori Chicken Sampler • Fried Gobi (Cauliflower) This is officially our new favorite spot. Honestly, I’d choose a meal here over Ruth’s Chris any day!
I have been to the restaurant two times now and both times it was absolutely phenomenal, especially the palak patta chat, which I literally could not stop thinking about for 3 weeks which is why I went back a second time with my boyfriend. It’s crispy, savory, tangy, and sweet and scratches all the itches in my brain I didn’t even know I wanted this until I had it. This time, we also ordered the Rutba kebab sampler- the chicken was very tender and cooked well, but the dish might be a bit on the bland side compared to the other dishes in the restaurant, but is a safe choice for those adverse to stronger flavors. I also ordered the Rechado Prawns, which were a little spicy and very herby, second favorite appetizer so far. Last time, we also ordered curries, where you can adjust your heat preference. I ordered a grouper curry in American spicy and my boyfriend ordered one in Indian spicy and he was very happy that this is one of the few places that serve to a spice level that can match his tolerance (he loves spicy food). American spicy is probably equivalent to a jalepeno, and Indian spicy is closer to habanero. Both were wonderfully flavorful and we also had flaming naan and paratha as our bread side order. This time, we ordered the house curry with lamb meat with paneer bhatura, and I think the paneer bhatura is my favorite bread type they have. Overall, a very cozy and clean environment, cute decorations, really good food, great service, and affordable prices. This is going on my top restaurants in Richmond list.
Took my teenagers here for lunch and it was amazing! Started with the kebab sampler, which was tender and flavorful. I got the chicken korma which was delicious. I got it medium spice, but it wasn’t hot at all, just had a little kick. The lunch came with a choice of soup or salad and I chose the soup, which was a comforting coconut lime soup. My kids got butter chicken and saag paneer and both raved about their meals. They both got the salad and the green were fresh and crispy and the lemon dressing was addictive. Each meal also came with stewed potatoes, fluffy basmati rice, and the most delicious coconut mousse. The naan was light and fluffy. Service was great a the space is beautiful. You’d never guess that it was a Wendy’s a few years prior. We will definitely be back.
We had a wonderful family dinner at this Indian restaurant and absolutely loved the experience. The food was delicious and full of rich, authentic flavors, and the portion sizes were very generous. Every dish tasted fresh and well-prepared. The ambience was cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect place to enjoy time with family. A special shoutout to Aleena, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. The owner was also very friendly and checked in on us, which made the experience feel even more personal. Overall, great food, great service, and a great atmosphere, we will definitely be coming back! 😊
I ate here this weekend and was blown away with the food! The lunch combo was an incredible value- the butter chicken and mango paneer were both delicious. The service was great and the restaurant itself is also beautiful. I look forward to going back soon- I think this will be our go to local Indian restaurant.
The food was amazing! I was recommended the chili chicken as an appetizer and that was probably my favorite part of the meal! The Naan and Chicken Vendaloo was also great as well (India Spicy). The waiter was new but attentive, and the owner was nice and asked how everything was. Whenever I pass through town again I'll make ot a point to stop here!
Had been wanting to try this for a while and now I wish I had done so sooner. Had the paneer bhatura, homemade garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and patia with lamb. The food was delicious. Our family of four agreed that this was better than Tulsi in Carytown. Service was very good and the atmosphere is nice. We will definitely return. If you’re looking for authentic Indian food in Midlothian Virginia, this is a must try.
The food is delicious. We ordered malai kofta and paneer and the food came out quickly. The paneer was creamy and the malai kofta tangy and smooth. We also ordered the palak chaat and enjoyed it very much. The restaurant shines not only in food but also in service. Our waitress was really friendly and attentive and was always on hand to answer our questions. We’d highly recommend Rutba to anyone who loves Indian food!
I recently ordered delivery from Rutba and the food was absolutely excellent. Everything arrived fresh, well-packed, and still hot. While everything I ordered tasted great, a few dishes really stood out. The Chicken Malai Murgh was incredibly tender and creamy, full of flavor in every bite. The Paneer Bhatura was soft and delicious, and the Chilli Chicken had the perfect balance of spice and taste—definitely one of the best versions I’ve had. Overall, great quality, generous portions, and a really satisfying meal. I’ll definitely be ordering again!
My wife and I had a fantastic dinner at Rutba; a standout was the naan which is a lot lighter and softer than your standard naan. Also, when you order “Indian Hot” they don’t hold back, which I really appreciated. Our server was outstanding: friendly and attentive. My only complaint really is that the tables are a bit close together, it sort of felt like I was at my neighbors table and you can’t exactly have a private convo.
Finally an awesome Indian restaurant in Midlo. We’ve been waiting for more options and Rutba does not disappoint. It’s definitely in my top 2 Indian restaurants in RVA. Delicious Indian food with excellent service and ambience. We went for lunch and the food was amazing. You can clearly tell that they use high quality ingredients. Also, for lunch they provide a soup or salad, garlic/plain naan and dessert with any entree of choice. That is great value for money. The food itself was fresh and robustly flavored without being too spicy. My wife and I will be coming back again, especially for date nights. I also love the fact that the menu has some new dishes that I haven’t seen at other Indian restaurants in RVA. The ambience is unlike any other Indian restaurant in RVA. It’s spacious, bright and the decor is excellent. Great job on the interior design. Here are the food items we ordered. Chilli Gobhi and Rechado Shrimp for appetizers. Delhi style Butter Chicken and Lamb Rogan Josh for mains. We chose the lentil soup and garlic naan to go with it, which was included with the price along with a creamy fruit dessert. Definitely a must try restaurant for everyone in RVA, but especially if you live in Midlothian. I rarely review restaurants but felt compelled to do so this time. The food was that good.
We got the saag paneer, chicken tikka masala, and chicken korma with garlic naan. It was fantastic! Definitely recommend starting with mild spice level If this is your first time, it was still pretty spicy! We absolutely loved everything about it, the only thing we wish was different (and kept it from a 5 star review) was the fact that the order of garlic naan was really only 1 piece of naan cut in half. We both thought that was a pretty scarce portion and would definitely recommend increasing how much is included in an order!
We came after hearing rave reviews about this place. I want to preface this by saying that I grew up in the most heavily Indian American populated area of the country, which shapes my perspective. Is the food here good? For this area, yes. Did I personally find it phenomenal as others have said? Honestly, no. The space is beautifully decorated, clean, and thoughtfully laid out. The service is attentive and welcoming. We came for lunch and ordered the lamb roganjosh and the vind’alho. We chose the lentil soup, and with naan and basmati rice included, it is an excellent value and more than enough food for the price. Everything tasted fine, but the flavors could have been better balanced. The lamb leaned sour, and the vind’alho leaned salty. A better harmony of spices would have elevated both dishes. One issue we were not pleased with was pricing transparency. One dish was line item charged at a higher price than what was listed on the physical menu, which itself was higher than the price posted online. I understand that online prices are not always current, but customers should not be charged more than the price shown on the menu presented at the restaurant. That feels like deceptive pricing. We chose not to press the issue since our waitress was already handling a difficult table, and we did not want to make her shift more stressful.
First time trying this place. Overall a good experience. We had lunch which came with a few accompaniments. Definately a great value for the lunch menu price point. I love indian food and I've had a lot so I have a great point of reference. The food was average, nothing special quite honestly. I will say that the plain naan was amazing! The dining area was clean, decorated nicely, visually appealing but it was uncomfortably cold! Patrons in the restaurant kept their coats on. I plan to go back for dinner soon to give them a fair chance. I gave four stars because I liked the vibe overall and I think there's great potential. Plus we needed an Indian restaurant in that area.
We are SO excited to have Rutba Indian Kitchen so close to home! So so so delicious. Everything! Drinks....appetizer...naan...entrees...Everything! We did rate the service 3 stars but the owner was 1000% on top of making sure all guests left happy! We spoke several times just simply because he was checking in. Everything will absolutely fall into place there! Without a doubt our new favorite Indian restaurant!
Dont go here until they have their pest problem under control. Place is beautiful on the inside but spotted a roach crawling across the chair and that made me question if there are any in the kitchen. Unfortunate as the place could be nice but I cannot eat at a place that has roaches crawling around.
