Yesss please! So good and so much food for just $40ish. The broth was delicious and everything was served almost immediately. We went in toward the end of the night so not too busy. All staff was attentive.
The food quality here is decent, and the service is excellent. I would particularly like to praise that tall Asian gentleman with light blonde hair. I visit this restaurant on a weekly basis. You won't be disappointed if you choose this establishment.
It‘s here for this cold weather. You must not miss the delicious shabu and grill on a cold day. The meat is fresh, clean, delicious, and quality. The staff is lovely and take good care of every move. He will always take care of you. Describe the beautiful, quiet, clean shop. And finally, you will be able to wash your mouth with delicious desserts that are not on the menu. Of course, it is another point that I will definitely have to come back to eat. And you guys miss and enjoy a good restaurant like this?
Great all-you-can-eat hotpot and BBQ spot in Chinatown. The restaurant is clean, spacious, and everyone gets their own individual pot, which makes it very hygienic. There are many soup bases to choose from, including tomato, mushroom, herbal, and spicy beef tallow. The Angus beef slices and beef tongue were tender and flavorful, perfect for hotpot. The BBQ skewers were excellent as well — garlic shrimp, garlic clams, steak ribs, and chicken wings were all cooked perfectly and full of flavor. They even had fresh live blue crab, which was a pleasant surprise. Service was friendly, food came out quickly, and the overall experience was great value for the price. Highly recommend this place for anyone looking for authentic Chinese hotpot and BBQ in Manhattan Chinatown.
Fresh and high quality hotpot spot. Highly recommend the spicy soup base. For appetizer, get the fried bun, fried wings, fried pork, and pumpkin cake. For protein, fatty beef is a must, fish filet, shrimp paste, and duck blood if you’re adventurous. For veggies, lotus root, taro, tofu skin roll, and frozen tofu. And finally, the jelly dessert was very refreshing and perfectly sweetened to finish off the big meal.
I came here for a dinner with friends the day before my birthday and was pleasantly surprised to find out that they give you free AYCE if it's within 3 days of your birthday! The interior of the restaurant is a bit more traditional and cozy with lots of booths for hot pots. You order with staff here and their service is fairly quick. You have the option to do individual hotpot or communal hotpot and my friends and I opted for the communal hotpot. We ordered a variety of meat, veggies, and other ingredients and everything was delicious. The veggies were fairly fresh and the meats were good quality for AYCE, and there were so many options to choose from. For the value, I think this is a great deal. And, at the end of the meal you can get free dessert (a pudding), AND if it's your birthday then you can get shaved ice and a free chopstick set!
Another great experience at Lao Jie! Started eating at Lao Jie back in 2020 (or whenever it opened) so it's exciting to see the franchise grow into something more! Great and attentive service. Our waiter / waitress were making sure we had water and our soups were refilled every 20-30 minutes. Our (uncooked) food also came out fast. Really affordable considering the amount of food and services we have access to: sauce bar & all you can eat appetizers, meat , seafood, and veggies. The food has never been an issue for me since we (the customers) are cooking them for ourselves. They’re so thoughtfully plated for us to enjoy with our eyes. I've always loved the theme they go for: vintage Chinese films / traditional scenes. This spot did not disappoint the legacy of Lao Jie Hot Pot!
We usually go to the one in Brooklyn but this location is good too. The broths were rich and flavorful, and all the ingredients, especially the meats and seafood, were fresh and high-quality. The service was excellent, with friendly and attentive staff ensuring a great dining experience. The restaurant was clean and spacious, making it even more enjoyable. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!
We came here as a party of four to celebrate a birthday. All you can eat hotpot with unlimited meat options. There’s also seafood included in the menu as part of the all you can eat such as crab meat and shrimps. The sauce bar is enough but not as comprehensive as some other hot pot places. Drinks are charged separately. There’s a discount if you come here on your birthday.
Not bad for a NY hot pot spot. Spicy broth could be a little more aromatic. Neat that they have both hot pot and BBQ skewer options
I left my stuff behind after eating at the restaurant today. A tall, kinda chubby guy with short hair ran out in just a short-sleeve shirt to remind me I’d forgotten my things, even though it was well below zero. I was totally stunned! The service was amazing, but the food was just so-so. Trust me, guys—come check it out, it’s definitely worth it!
Call for reservations! LaoJie Hotpot serves three types of AYCE: hotpot, skewers, or hotpot and skewers. They offer a lot of selection for hotpot so our group of 3 all decided to go with AYCE hotpot ($36.98), as it would be more than enough to keep us filled without dipping into the skewers. And it was more than enough variety to keep our taste buds happy and tummies full! We enjoyed the fatty beef, beef tongue, pork belly, handmade fish paste, handmade shrimp paste, crab meat stick, and veggies. We each get our own hot pot, so I chose the mushroom soup base. Friend got the spicy beef tallow soup base, which does more than deliver a kick, so keep that in mind if you order it! We were too full to try anything off the appetizer menu. Our meal ended with a complimentary dessert of mango milk tea pudding, which was light and refreshing. Service was on top of things. Our requested items came out timely and our waters refilled. Space inside seems to support groups big and small.
Good ventilation it's bbq skewers grilled already and hotpot cook urself ayce. We liked the sauce station it was simple, and clean. Service was nice and everything was straight forward instructed, broth is clean but meat was ok. Had the chicken skewers today super juicy and good portion. The free pudding with milk tea is better at 8th avenue LaoJie. Bad seaweed and short ribs skewers today.
Around 38 dollars without tax, tips per person I like the tomato soup but the spicy one is a bit salty, especially when the water is down. They have a variety of hotpot items. Seafood is decent, not fresh though. The crab meat is friable, good things is they have crab crackle. Mussles and clamps are chewy. Squid has weird taste. The beef is pretty nice. Vegetables decently fresh. Shrimp paste does not taste “shrimpy” and quite doughy like other types of balls. The complimentary mango puddy is quite nice, except for its sweetness ok higher side. The customer service is good. Attendants pay attention to table service, adding water, clean up the table, ask if we need more ordering. The food comes out pretty fast. The atmostphere is vibey, but sitting near the restroom entrance is quite annoying since the handryer is kinda loud. It’s my birthday but we come as a group of 2 only so no discount available.
The ambience of the booths is really nice and it’s great that there is an individual broth pot option. The fish options were very good. The tomato broth tasted more like sweet ketchup than I’ve had elsewhere. The lotus root was cut way toot thick to cook and eat in time with other things. Only one member of our group had been before and the staff seemed annoyed when we asked what was and wasn’t included in the ayce. The menu has a lot of unnecessary pages. When it came to paying, the staff brought us the check but didn’t come back for a while so when they came they were aggressive and rushing about paying even though they were the ones who left the table for a long time. The vegetable and mushroom broths are good along with the singing for birthday celebrations but I wouldn’t rush back.
Starting out with the positive is that the food was delicious while I was able to enjoy it. It is a little daunting to order since the server you have is the one who will help you while there are others who will help top up your hotpots or refill water. Everyone seems to have a specific role. The music can be loud but maybe that is because we were towards the back by the bathroom/television. Now, off to the not so positive, there was a roach the size of my thumbnail that crawled on the table in front of me and moved around all over my portion of the table. I had to get up to get the server because no one would make eye contact with me. Our server came over to the table and disposed of the roach. I did not eat anymore food. Our server came back and asked if I wanted a fresh set of items, I declined. They left it there in front of me while my tablemates finished their meal. No manager came over and there was nothing said to me until the check came and they informed me that they removed my portion of the meal. While I appreciate the sentiment and removal of my portion, I will not be coming back.
We had a reservation for 8 PM, but we arrived early. We asked the front desk if we could be seated ahead of time, and they agreed. However, five walk-in guests suddenly arrived, and the staff let them in first. When I asked why walk-ins were seated before guests with a reservation, they kept avoiding the question. Then one of the staff members came over and started arguing with me. I really don’t understand why they reacted so strongly—we were simply asking why walk-ins were seated before people who had booked in advance. We were eventually seated in a private room, but the waitress had a bad attitude the entire time. When I asked for her name, she told me her name was “OP” (which I strongly doubt was real). Only then did her attitude improve, and she claimed she wasn’t feeling well because she had a cold. Overall, the experience was terrible, and I won’t be coming back.
