Opinions de Han Bat Broadway
Fantastic little Korean restaurant. Great service, fun atmosphere, and generous portions. I stop in every time I’m in the Big Apple. The food is legit Korean and tastes fantastic. I recommend the Bi Bim Bop or the Gobdol Bi Bim Bop (served in a hot stone bowl).
This place deserves more stars! The banchan was easily one of the best in K-town. We ordered the steamed pork with salted cabbage and it was so delicious and quality meat. The atmosphere is warm and homey and feels like you’re being transported to a little restaurant in Seoul run by local Korean aunties. Highly recommend a visit!
Delicious! Amazing service, food came very quickly as well.
I have been coming here almost for 3 decades. Always welcoming, good price, generous portion. Never had stomach cramps or discomfort from the food. The food is very satisfying. The lady(owner) is very nice. My usual orders are Do gani Tang, Sul lung Tang, Gamja tang. More about authentic Korean and traditional hot broth ones.
Delicious Korean spot with authentic food and a homey vibe! The banchan is super filling, the food is delicious, and the staff are friendly. Some reviews have said the service is slow but it’s relatively fast and any delay is because the food is extremely fresh. Definitely a hidden k town gem.
I’m not usually a huge fan of Korean food but eating here with a friend who 1. Is from Seoul and 2. Has been eating at this place since shortly after it opened in the 80s/is friends with the owner was an awesome experience. The free apps (friend dumplings and seafood pancake) were great—both were extra crispy and the seafood pancake wasn’t overpowering. I got kimchi soon which was good though honestly I’ve eaten so much at BCD Tofu House that I don’t like soon at other places nearly as much. He got gamjatang—pork neck and potato soup. I tried a bite and ended up eating about a third of his bowl. It was one of the greatest dishes I’ve ever tasted—almost like a Korean version of menudo with neck meat instead of stomach and added potatoes, spring onion l, etc. I’m seriously addicted to it. Cannot recommend this restaurant enough!
We managed to get a booking for 10 people though we squeezed into a table for 8. Young kids so we made it work. Everyone sat on their winter jackets. Space is definitely tight. The lady serving us was busy but alert and attentive. She brought us an other round of appetisers by observing what we liked best. Our orders cane out fast and the food was hot and mostly served in stone bowls. Salt and sauces are all added to taste. It is tight, it is noisy and yes there’s a perpetual queue for the ladies bathroom. But an enjoyable dinner of soups and bibimbaps and chap jae. Full house and queues unabated so call in advance if you don’t want to wait out in the cold for some time.
Best Korean in the city in my opinion. Licked the bowl clean! The staff and service were top notch and the food was out of this world. Not too sweet or salty and fair prices. Must go in nyc
Nice selections of Korean comfort food, especially for a cold autumn day. All of our dishes came out fast and piping hot. The service was prompt and efficient. Finding the soybean curd (豆腐脑)soup pot here was a very special treat. We felt lucky that we didn’t try and wait next door for a long time.
I absolutely mean it when I say, this is THE BEST restaurant I have eaten at while in New York. Genuinely nothing else compares it was that good. As a Korean, I can say with certainty this is also one of THE MOST authentic Korean dining experiences I have ever experienced while in the United States. It’s also just hands down a contender for the best food in general I have ever eaten it was just that good. The food was delicious, I got the Clam Kal Guk Su and it genuinely tasted so much like the ones from Korea, I felt like I was transported back home. Everyone else in my party also raved about how excellent their food was and we all couldn’t get enough of it! The staff was so so friendly, so extremely accommodating and friendly, making sure we were well taken care of during the dining experience. When we asked for more side dishes, they happily gave us a handful more, it was wonderful! I genuinely URGE YOU, if you are in the area, PLEASE give this restaurant a shot I so strongly recommend it!
This used to be my go to delivery restaurant when I used to live in Hell’s Kitchen which I always enjoyed, esp the budae jjigae. Tonight was the first time I dined in person, and the restaurant is very warm and cozy. Went with a large group since Cho Dang Gol had an extremely long wait time. We were able to grab a table for 11 right away, and the servers were attentive and very friendly. We all ordered different items but I got the O Jing Uh Gob Dol (spicy stir fried squid with rice in a hot stone bowl) which was tasty and def recommend. Everyone was satisfied with their order and we all drank a couple of bottles of Makgeolli that paired very well with our entrees. If you want a warm drink other than tap water, you can ask for hot barley tea along with banchan refills (which are both free).
Like many others before us, we came here because CDG was full - and though I don’t think the soondubu is as good (I got the seafood one and found both the seafood quality and taste to be lower than CDG / BCD ) overall it’s a very solid option with a big menu, good banchan (loved the potatoes), and similar homey atmosphere. It was a very comforting lunch for the freezing pre-storm temperature and we really appreciated the immediate seating, definitely something that CDG lacks!
Han Bat is a small Korean restaurant located outside of the main Koreatown area, but still close in proximity to other Korean restaurants. The place was quite crowded when we went in, but we were seated nearly instantly. The service was a bit slow at times, and paying was a bit confusing since we had to go up to the register to the pay rather than the waitstaff collecting the check from you. The banchan was pretty standard, but they did include one that was like a sweet mashed potato. Other than that, it was pretty much average/what you'd expect at other restaurants. We got an assortment of bibimbaps and a kimchi bokkum. The bibimbap was quite standard with other Korean restaurants, it was satisfying as a meal but we didn't think it stood out from other place's bibimbaps. The kimchi bokkum was a bit spicy, but not overwhelmingly and it came with stuff such as rice cakes and pork mixed in.
We stumbled upon Han Bat and really enjoyed it. They are right next to the popular restaurant Cho Dang Gol, so unfortunately a little overlooked. However, the food was excellent and the place has a nice mom and pops vibes. I loved that they have a half portion sam gae tang (ban gae tang) for me to enjoy!
This is an old Korean restaurant located in Manhattan's Koreatown. The restaurant is clean and the food is neat and delicious. The rice cooked in a pot is particularly appealing. However, all the food is a little salty. It would have been more satisfying if it had been a little bland. There is a lunch special menu and the price is reasonable. It would be good to visit once for lunch.
I had lunch with a friend after a long time. The food wasn’t particularly outstanding, but I was impressed by how the restaurant has been consistently operating in the same spot for so long. I noticed a review below that seemed to target a specific individual with personal attacks, which I think is quite inappropriate. After reading that review, I paid closer attention to the staff, and today they were all very friendly, frequently checking if we needed more side dishes. I used to work part-time at a restaurant during school, and I know that when you’re physically exhausted, it’s hard to keep smiling. While professionalism is important, it’s not always easy to maintain. I believe that as adults, we should be more courteous when leaving negative reviews.
This was the worst Korean restaurant I've ever eaten at. The ingredients were incredibly stale. The seafood army stew ($59) was mid-range in price, but the seafood inside was extremely unfresh. They probably found fish and shrimp that had been dead for ages and just threw them in the pot to cook. I had to go to the toilet before I even finished my rice. Only the vegetables were edible, and I still got diarrhea.
I was expecting a little better quality given that it’s a Korean restaurant. I ordered the dak galbi (chicken), but unfortunately the seasoning just wasn’t good. Thankfully, the staff was kind enough to exchange it for their kalguksoo (knife-cut noodles), which was better—but still not great.
Didn’t feel like waiting an hour for the places next door so we tried this. What a mistake - wasted a dinner in NYC. I got the beef gobdol and there was barely any meat. Nearly all of the brown in the photo is sliced brown vegetable that looked like meat. The rest of the bowl was just white rice below a thin layer of vegetables. The shumai appetizer was just some frozen dumplings from the grocery store. It even had the imprints from the plastic tray. Not authentic handmade in the restaurant. There’s a reason there’s a long waiting list for the restaurants next door and downstairs and not this one. There’s a reason there’s not many Asians eating in here. If you’re in a rush for some hot food and don’t care about the taste, this is your spot.
Not sure why there are so many good reviews but the food is super mediocre. There's no flavor at all other than salt. No seasoning and no depth at all to the flavor profile. We tried the jap chae, bulgogi and tofu stew. Each dish was disappointing. Shocked at the low quality and lack of flavors. There's lots of great Korean restaurants nearby. This is a skip.
The worst Korean food I’ve ever had in my life. Not only were the portions small and the taste disappointing, but the grilled squid was made with the cheapest frozen squid, and the grilled beef was all scraps. No wonder customers are willing to line up for the restaurant next door rather than come to this place, which can’t even fill its seats. The worst Korean restaurant in Ktown!
We were waiting for table next door and it will be a good 2 hours wait. Therefore, we walk in to this place and got a table immediately. We ordered some regular Korean food. A little over-priced and I find the food is not tasteful.(the hot spice over power the taste of the dishes) I have been to many Korean resteraunt around the world and this is by far the worst. I hope others will find this review helpful.
