Back a u should to bagels it’s like And u should go I think this is the best bagel I ever ate and I eat a lot of bagels hahA
This is unquestionably the best bagel shop, at least in Brooklyn. We ordered Salmon on Pumpernickel and Everything Bagel, which were excellent! Staff were very friendly.
Moved to the area recently and was in search of our new go-to bagel place... And this place is it. The service is good, breakfast sandwiches are quality, and the bagels are not too shabby.
I enjoy the coffee and breakfast here. Neber have to wait and the coffee is always fresh and hot. Its a little expensive vut at keast you can park your car and run in. Never had any issues here and the bagels are always fresh.
My friend lives within walking distance (I guess everything is within walking distance in NY) or close. I can't visit her without visiting them! Love the food & staff! A+ it can get busy but its worth it!
Fast service. Very fresh bagels. Yummy assortment of cream cheese. Good coffee. Nice customers, too. You rarely find laptop hobos and table hogs taking up space the way they do elsewhere long after they have finished a coffee.
Very cozy place, I wish we had more of these around Bay Ridge. I am in love with my Toasted Sesame Mini with Raisin Walnut Cream Cheese. They have a great assortment of homemade cream cheeses. Thumbs up!
Clean, fast and friendly place. Bagel's are fresh and the food is good. It's a great shop. You can even sit down to eat in their small but cozy sitting area.
Never dissapointed when I come here. It is super quaint and the cream cheese selection is better than any of the other bagel stores around. Everything is always fresh, 10/10 will return.
Very consistent bagel size and freshness, every day of the week. I was pleasantly surprised at how big and puffy they actually are. My favorites are the cinnamon raisin and blueberry. Also, attentive customer service and good prices
nor for nothing, gotta show this place MAD LOVE because is really, really, effing good. Like, I used to order from bagel boy and haven’t since this place. They deliver insanely fast, my 4-year-old loves to give the delivery men the tip and they always amuse him, which is so sweet. And best of all; the food is amazing. The breakfast sandwiches are literally delectable. Now if they start making iced cappuccinos (bye bye b-boy). Anyway, in conclusion, I didn’t want to write this review because I want this place all for myself.
This is the only decent bagel spot in the neighborhood of the Third Ave and 75th street Brooklyn. It was my first time there. I ordered puppy seed bagel with cup of coffee. My bagel was fresh and crisp! I loved the fact that the poppy seeds didn't fall off the bagel easily. There was a generous amount of cream cheese on my bagel. I will definitely be back for more fresh bagels at Schmagel Bagel!
We stopped here for New York bagels and we were not disappointed. The bagels were delicious and decently priced. The girl working at the counter was incredibly friendly and patient. It is a small store and it got pretty busy so it's definitely a grab and go place rather than a stay and eat place.
Great atmosphere with friendly staff and lovely owners. This neighborhood bagel shop is a gem in Bay Ridge. The food is great and reasonably priced. It's a small seating area but comfortable. If the owners are in, they are super friendly and enjoy talking to thier customers. I think it's a great touch to be treated like family when you go get your breakfast or brunch!
Great bagels, I get a BEC from here all the time delivered. Delivery is always punctual, people are very nice. Called today and while ordering asked to make sure I got to the right size smoothie cause in the past it was mixed up and I happened to catch the owner on the other end of the call. He apologized, and took full ownership of the mistake, with impeccable customer service. He even gave me a large smoothie and charged me for a small to make good. Great guy, great customer service, great way to run a business. 5 Stars.
My wife and I have been here around six or so times, and enjoyed every experience. We have tried other bagel shops around and none are as good. The bagel sandwich menu is good, but you can never go wrong with an everything bagel with home-made cream cheese.
I used to live one block away from this wonderful place a few months ago. Every morning I started with them. Plain bagel with salmon and olive cream cheese within hot gentle capuchinno. I liked music there, staff (remember one girl was studying in law school or considering about it, hope you are doing well), atmosphere. Simple and cozy. Highly recommend this place.
So any bad reviews here I can say are def false! Arielle from what I can tell is the owner or manager is extremely nice as well as Anoshka apologies for any misspells! but the bagel was amazing (got the last rainbow bagel for my child) The four leaf clover cookies were an awesome touch I do not like sugar cookies but these were really good !
I love this place great customer service bagels would be done very quick and efficiently in the mornings I always dine in and there’s always space to eat
Literally the best bagels I have ever had. Been here multiple times, it's always delicious and they've never once messed up my order. Usually pretty fast as well!
I got the gluten free bagel. They have everything, cinnamon raisin and plain. Their gluten free bagels are made by them and are not a store brought brand. The bagels were actually nice and chewy, similar to a real bagel.. They are a but small in size but the flavor makes up for it. I have this place a 5 star not just for food but for their service. The Hispanic guy working there and the lady at the front were super nice people. Definitely recommend this place for my celiac community. They also have some packed gluten free items such as corn muffins and brownies.
Not only is the place super clean and well put together but their bagels are phenomenal!
Super clean, under new management/owner are so nice, great service and most of all delicious bagels 🥯
Best bagel shop in Bay Ridge! Delicious, handmade on-site, high quality bagels. Equally delicious coffee, muffins, smoothies, etc. It’s recently under new management and the new owners are kind, respectful and truly care about delivering a quality product & keeping customers happy. Cute outdoor seating too. Worth traveling to!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely love this place. The bagels are always fresh, the breakfast sandwiches are delicious, and the coffee is spot on. The staff is friendly and the service is quick — perfect for grabbing something great on the go or sitting down for a relaxed morning. Highly recommend!
Bagel Schmagel is a hidden gem! The bagels are always fresh, soft on the inside, and perfectly crisp on the outside — exactly how a New York bagel should be. The staff is friendly, quick, and always gets my order right. Whether it’s a classic bacon, egg & cheese or a simple everything bagel with cream cheese, everything tastes delicious and made with care. The coffee is great too — strong and smooth. It’s become my go-to breakfast spot. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!
A great spot to get your bagels, coffee, and muffins! Bagels are always fresh and delicious. The new ownership have really elevated the place and have made it even better than before. My go to spot for breakfast.
Bagel Schmagel my go to for everything! Best bagels, friendly staff and clean place. One of the nicest shops you’ll find in bay ridge. Great food and service! Love this place
I’ve been coming to this place for years. It’s under new management and the new owners have completely transformed the place into something special. Hands down the best bagels in bay ridge. The service is great and the atmosphere amazing.
I was so thrilled to be able to visit Bagel Schmagel again this morning! The lady that served us was very professional and friendly. She recommended that we try the strawberry cream cheese with the blueberry bagel. My sis-in-law that was with me ordered everything with scallion cream cheese! Everything was beyond perfect!! Btw- The updates to the shop look AMAZING!
I went there for the first time with my daughter. She had a bacon, egg and cheese on a plain bagel. I had the avocado, bacon and cheddar cheese on an everything bagel with a coffee. The food was good, but the coffee was so amazing I had to ask the cashier where did they get it from. I recommend this place.
By far, this homey bagel shop has some of the best bagels I've eaten. Made with fresh ingredients, the food options are hearty and definitely priced fairly. The variety in cream cheeses, bagels, and meal options offers all so many great choices. The staff only add to the warm experience when ordering.
I go for coffee and have had a few bagels as well. The staff are attentive and friendly. One of the few places I've found that has blueberry bagels. An added plus I'm my view.
I used a groupon that I got here twice and no regrets my friends! Go for the sandwichs that have chicken in them if you are hungry. I was even short on change by a few cents and the guy let me go. Nice service and good management. Stay in Bay Ridge and do not leave!
Bagels are pretty good. The breakfast bagel #1 ABC amazing! I ordered a latte and it was not good, too much milk and my sister ordered a cappuccino and the same thing. I guess their forte isn't espresso drinks maybe just plan brewed coffee. Prices are fine and the staff are friendly and work very fast
I get bagels here almost every Saturday morning. Definitely good food. Could do a little better on their portions. Maybe it's just a NYC thing, but I don't understand having so much cream cheese on one bagel. Service is super friendly though, and I will continue to give them my business.
So when this place first opened years ago I tried the bagels and it was not to my liking, but just recently I decided to give them another chance, and boy am I glad I did I was shocked how delicious these were, much different. Friendly staff, quick service, I have been going to another famous bagel spot for years, I have found my new favorite bagel shop. The only reason for the 4/5 and not 5/5 is bcs it is overpriced I order 3 bagels toasted with cream cheese and butter and was charged $18.52.
The store is located in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn. They offer bagels 🥯, cereal, sandwiches, platters, wraps, salads, desserts and beverages☕️ . Several places are available to dine in but there are no servers. I ordered two eggs, home fries, bacon and toast in a platter. They forgot my toast order. The food was very good and tasty.
That’s one of the best bagel shop and delicious bagels always fresh and tasty, but the workers girls that is in charge with costumer are not too friendly the chubby Mexican Spanish girl wasn’t very nice to me she was kind of rude giving me some attitude like stuck up, I will come back to get my bagels from there one of these days I’m a speak to the boss or manager
My vegetable cream cheese on a toasted sesame bagel was prepared quickly and with a smile. Although the bagel was a bit small, the cream cheese was surprisingly creamy and very fresh. Overall the sandwich was a bit pricey but possibly the best tasting in Bay Ridge. As you walk inside you can’t help but notice their wall decorated with nostalgic theme based signs that add a nice touch. You also can’t help but notice an adorable life size dancing Santa Claus in the store front window, but the wow factor is a bit negated by the exterior cloth flag bearing the store’s name which is torn and in urgent need of some thread and a needle. On the interior the overhead exhaust duct registers needed cleaning as they have extensive built up dust accumulated from air passing through the vents. Also the floor under a few tables and behind the counter needed sweeping. The gentlemen at the register who appeared to be the owner was friendly and had a nice rapport with many of his customers. His outgoing personality along with a delicious cream cheese and tasty bagels has a lot to do with the store’s success as it has several repeat customers.
Best bagels and coffee in Brooklyn. Can’t get any better then that. Love that I only live a couple of block away from this place and I just love the vintage look of the store. One thing I do hate is ordering on Grubhub and they forget items from my order. But other then that i love this place. Also hands down best homemade orange juice I ever had.
The bagels are good, but they really skimp with their cream cheese. And when I asked for extra cream cheese, they charged me the price of an additional bagel (I clarified the price difference with the sales person).
Bagels are OKAY if you’re in a pinch but the cashiers continue to be extremely slow, unbothered and unpleasant. Despite the convenient location, I think I’ll see what else is in the neighborhood.
Such a cute little bagel store in Bay Ridge! They are very slow with service but I guess they are more detailed. The coffee was ok! The bagels were good! The spot is super cuuute! They are busy!
The food is okay but they forget things. I ordered an ice coffee and a smoothie, came with no straws. ordered a knish with mustard, no mustard. another time ordered iced coffee and got regular coffee, when iced is more expensive. Delivery man is very nice though. This place just needs to take orders more seriously. If a customer is paying for something then make sure they receive what they ordered.
Fresh and delicious. Also gets done quickly. Had to bring it down 1 star. 11+ bucks for a bacon egg and cheese bagel is too high. I know inflation is up but this seems like it's being taken advantage of. Hope this changes.
The bagels and sandwiches have been very good. However they have been skimpy with the amount of cream cheese they put on the bagels. Also, the place is small and can get very crowded, none of the staff wear face masks and they don't require customers to wear them when they come in to place takeaway orders. I'm fully vaccinated but avoid crowded places, so I'm staying away and patronizing a nearby bagel shop.
Just bought bagels. ..ok. So, the plain bagel looked as though it was not cooked but I was more shocked that I was charged TAX. The only bagel store from Bay Ridge past Dyker to Bay Pkwy. And I know them all. Have NEVER been charged tax! Wow
Small bagel shop in Bay Ridge. Not a bad looking place. Don't know how long it's been at this location. The service was good. The girls behind the counter were friendly. The food was good. There was also indoor dining. Would recommend.
I was disappointed with the size and taste of the bagels. I went early Sunday morning and the bagels just seemed small and kinda not-fresh. They were on the hard side and they didn't have that yummy softish bagel flavor. It was also expensive.
Be careful with that blond woman at the front. Twice she over charged my husband . First time my husband let it slide. Second time thank God i was with my husband to correct her. Its just very suspicious because how can she make a mistake when everything is punch in the register and register gives you the total charge. Just be wary everyone. Though I can’t help coming back to this place because they have great bagel and muffins
When the worked said "careful, it's a little hot" I did not expect the coffee to be scalding hot and burn my fingers.
I wanted to like this place, they delivered on weekends. But after three attempts, i cannot suggest it. The bagels are gummy. The scallion cream cheese sparse of scallion flavor. The lox was dry abs 1 slice only. The fresh squeezed OJ came in a presealed bottle and made my tongue tingle. No date on it, but it was made in advance. Thanks Tropicana does that already. The egg burrito shell was stale, eggs were dry like they were premade. There's a deli at every corner in this area, please step up your game.
I was disappointed I ordered a bagel with lox and cream cheese and onions. I reminded them I would like the bagel toasted and I was told that he had already put the cream cheese on the bagel. Who wouldn’t want a bagel toasted with lox or at least ask? I didn’t know I was also charged an additional 0.75 for onions.
I love the bagels. Service has allways been great. But what is going on with their coffee. It's cold and disgusting. Do not heat it up because other cups are being heated up with their steamer. Usually after they taste the coffee. I am so disappointed I won't be going back unless they provide hot coffee after 10am they told me they only keep it hot in the morning. Bring back the son. The coffee was hot until 2pm
I went into the store yesterday placed my food order and bought 2 bottles of Manhattan special. I paid for my order with cash told the cashier I'm taking it home. She packed the food in a paper bag and I said I need a bag for the Manhattan specials. I was going to Starbucks and didn't want to carry them without a bag. The cashier was annoyed I asked for a bag and said cost you .25 cents. Really state law 5 cents for the bag. Anyway was poor customer service. The bag cost 2 cents from manufactor I buy them all the time by the thousands. I had too post this train your employees better!
This was my favorite bagel place for years - I went every weekend. Delicious bagels and sandwiches, awesome coffee and fantastic front and back of house team. It was never the cheapest of the local places but the quality made up for that. Five stars all around. Recently they changed their front of house - and the experience is awful. Longer waits, significant attitude and lack of service. Everyone seems bothered that you're there and speaks to you like you're an idiot. This isn't just the weekend team but even M-F. This is NOT an isolated incident and so I've since stopped going. I did return this past Monday just to see if anything has been refreshed and it hasn't. It's just the attitude of the new team, which doesn't seem to be getting better with time. Heartbroken. I hope ownership does a refresh to bring back this staple.
I normally use a food service app (GrubHub) to order food. It's convenient and I can pay with my saved credit card. It's ideal as I don't carry cash. Without fail, Everytime I order here, the owner/manager lady that works the register tells me to "call in your order next time". I assume there's some back end payment issue and perhaps they lose money on online orders. Whatever the case may be, if you don't like having people order with these apps, don't use these apps. It's simple and doesn't involve talking down to customers. Fast forward to today.. I called! The lady took my order of 3 bagels, not toasted with cream cheese. Once I picked up my food and got home, I opened one of the bagels and it was toasted. The cream cheese had softened and was a mess to eat. All in all, it was still a good bagel but I'm 100% positive that if I had put my order in online that my order would have been made correctly.
I hate to write a review for local businesses but when I saw my chicken Cesar wrap I have to do this. When I got turkey wrap from here it was delicious and worth of my money but today when I got my chicken Cesar wrap I was like this got to be kidding. They put 4 skinny strips of chicken and lots of lettuce. Like almost feel like this is lettuce wrap with garnish of chicken. So if you go here don’t order the chicken Cesar wrap you will see something like my photo and it’s $12 something and I asked onion of course they forgot. But the cashier is very nice I give that.
I really wanted to like this place. Clean inside and outside... but the set up inside doesn’t make sense. You order and pay up front but the prices and options are in the back. So if you’ve never been there you need to go see what you want before being able to come and order but by then other people have come in and will order before you. The system is wacky and inefficient. Then when you go to order it’s any number of people who will take your order- including the cashier. Our order was taken by a guy who then went to the back to give our order to the person making it. ‘Toasted bagel, American cheese w butter. A tiny bit. Like a drop not piled on’. Then we stand there... then the cashier says ‘so were you charged?’ - im thinking shouldn’t she know this... but anyway, ‘no we werent...’ ‘so what did you order?’ - again, lacking efficiency in the payment process. Then the bagels come so we leave - hopeful... we get in the car and drive away. Go to eat them about five minutes later - open them to find a cardiac arrest amount of butter. Easily 1/4 to 1/3 cup of butter for each bagel. If we had not asked for a minimal amount of butter it would still have been an obscene BUT since we specifically asked for a drop it was offensive. Again - lack of efficiency and communication. I won’t even go into the attitude we got from the cashier when we were asked about paying. Our total order came out to $6.52 and normally I would just walk away feeling cheated, it’s just a few bucks but I couldnt. I needed to share my disgust and warn you all. Where there are bagel shops every other block in Brooklyn I can’t deal with this mediocre place. WILL NEVER GO BACK THERE AGAIN. Not missing the official NY attitude like they were doing us a favor. Ugh (picture of saturated napkin - there were a total of four needed to remove the butter)
Worst bagel I ever had. Tasteless, and little cream cheese on it. I bought the cinnamon raisin, for $4.10 totally not worth it!
20 cents extra to toast a roll?! 30$ total for a BEC, BLT and 2 coffees is insane and no mention of all the extra add on prices when u order.
DO NOT EAT!!!!! Easily the most disgusting place I’ve ever eaten. Horrible on every front. Walk the extra 4 blocks for real food at bagel boy. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE
Was really looking forward to a bagel and some coffee, to get there at 6:50am and still closed, and to top it off an employee was making themselves a sandwich touching everything with no gloves or hair net… fix your hours of operation. You don’t open at 6:30 walked a good bit to get here with my grandmother who is elderly
They close the grill an hour before closing time, they charged me for bacon than had to refund me how ridiculous. The blonde red head was rude the Spanish girl was really nice trying to explain but what a waste of time walking over here.
Ordered 2 breakfast sandwiches from here on Seamless at 9 am on a Sunday with a promised delivery of 10 am. 10 am no food, called up, promised that they will be there within 10 minutes. I told them that I had to leave the house at 10:30 and was assured that the food would get here before then. 10:30 no food, called up again and was told he will be there momentarily. Left my house at 10:45 and food still wasn't there. Called seamless to cancel and Bagel Schmagel didn't want to issue a refund. Received a call at 11:10 from delivery guy who is downstairs. Never again
Just walked out of here with my daughter. Have to say place looked clean and food looked good. However the customer service by the 1 woman taking the money from the customers was the worst I have seen in a while. She was rude and nasty for no reason. I come from a customer service background and firmly believe that you should at least be courteous to customers especially new customers. However since she was so obviously rude for seemingly no reason, even my 10 yr old daughter asked me what her problem was, I will not be a returning cutsomer. I will also let my sister and her family, who live in the neighborhood, know not to go there as well.
None of the prices are shown and all of the menus are outdated according to the staff. Way overpriced for a sandwich. Ordered two separate sandwiches and told them the order twice, but both orders were wrong when I received them. Not worth the money. For owner's response: this was my order, not someone else's. There were two people on line with me and they received their orders before hand. If you are updating your prices than you should not have menus with other prices listed and then say everything is subject to change. That leaves all the prices up in the air. Sorry but I will not give my business to a store that is not open with its prices is trying to blame the customer for an error the staff made.
Staff here is the absolute worst of the worst. Talking amongst themselves when there are customers waiting for orders. Engaging in workplace conversations and shenanigans while they were preparing my order, interrupting the process multiple times. Food is decent but the staff gives this place a bad rep. Taking my business elsewhere.
We ordered to wraps "lunch specials" asked to switch the cheese to something better than cheddar and to add onions to one wrap and jalapenos to the other. When we ordered they didn't say anything thing about costing more to add anything. We paid for the food. After waiting 20 mins for these two wraps we were asked by the girl at the counter what we ordered. She said I have to charge you a $1.50 more for the onions and jalapenos because I didn't charge you for it. Lol figuring well at least the foods ready.. Nope the food took another 7 mins before we received our mediocre wraps with dried over cooked chicken. Still wondering why they were "lunch specials" $25 bucks for two wraps and two drinks with no sides doesn't seem to special to me. SUGGESTIONS post prices or tell your customers what will cost extra, if you can't run your counter correctly you eat the expense of a mistake not the customer. specially if they were waiting 27 mins for two wraps.
I had my mom come get bagels this morning and the girl at the counter started asking my mom if she's Russian and it felt VERY off. NOT ok. Perhaps the staff needs to be educated on racism.
The man who was working the phone and front counter was extremely nasty to my mom earlier today. My mother and I are both business owners and the way that he spoke to her was just not right. This was on the phone but he told her it was to his fault and he doesn't need her as a customer and to never order from them again.
Way too long for a toasted bagel - rude, arrogant, inattentive service - try anyplace else Opened the wrapped bagel to find bits of avocado, from the previous order?? Threw it away - disgusting ! There is a diner next door where I will now have breakfast before banking on Saturdays
Clearly asked for toasted plain bagels with cream cheese and lox spread and they gave me rainbow bagels instead .I let it go.. when I get home ,I start eating, the bagels were hard as ROCK, had to throw to garbage. Never going to this place again. Overpriced too.
You know, it's so hard to review this place. The bagels are amazing, the coffee much better than any of the non-coffee-shop options in Bay Ridge, but the service is just abysmal -- every time I go there, I regret it b/c of how the staff treats the customers. 5 or 6 years ago, the place was great, all the way around. But then they started accommodating line cutters and extreme preferential treatment, and every visit became more and more miserable. More than a few times, I got in the long line waiting for delicious bagels only to have a staff members friend come in and cut in front of everyone, chat with the staff while all the other people had to wait even longer. So I stopped going in. I tried to solve the service problem by ordering it ahead of time and picking it up, but to no avail. They didn't have part of the order, so they substituted it for something less expensive and then gave me less than the difference in refund (yes, admittedly it was a tiny amount, but it was the nasty attitude of the employees that made me even care). They seemed so upset that I would want the full difference, that they become immediately and outwardly hostile. To make it even worse, they (purposely?) screwed up the order and half the food was completely inedible. It's been a long and messy break-up, but I'm finally ready to cut this place out of my life for good. And be happier for it.
I come here often enough, and I feel like the quality of service has gone to the lowest possible and then some. I normally swap between them and bagel boy, but am now reconsidering to drop this place completely. Decided to stop in and grab a quick bagel with butter and an iced coffee with oat milk. The girl working behind the counter, beyond incompetent. Now, when I ask for light ice and the coffee on the lighter side, that means less ice and more milk. The girl (long black hair- feel the need to point this out so if the owner reads this, they can properly address) fills ice in the cup to the top. I see her and correct her saying 1/4th of that. She spills out a little so the cup is filled 75%. I’m standing there annoyed, saying 25% of the cup, less ice. She begins to get annoyed but refuses to spill out the ice. I finally leave it at 50% and tell her on the lighter side, she fills the coffee to the top. Once again, on the lighter side (I’m saying slightly louder), she turns around, looks at me like a deer in headlights, and says “but we normally fill it to the top and put a splash of milk”. You are charging me extra for the oat milk and are telling me, only a splash? No, I tell her again on the lighter side. She looks all confused and grabs another girl from the back (brown hair, wearing a red cap that says Brooklyn with large hoops earrings) who comes out and argues that the oat milk is very light and it’s going to look this dark. I reiterate that I watched her fill the cup to the top, she did not add extra milk to make it light. Finally after going back and forth, they get it right to no lack of visual frustration from both women. The girl with the long black hair kept making comments and laughing, while staring in my direction. What kind of service is this??? The service at bagel boy would have NEVER been this disrespectful. After finally getting my bagel and coffee, my total for 2 small items came out to $9.77. Are you serious?? So prices have gone up, service is atrocious, and the quality of their atmosphere is beyond unwanting. NEVER AGAIN! I’m all about supporting local, but not when you run your business like this. I called it for Catrina’s and I’m calling it again. It’s only a matter of time before this place takes the boot as well. What happened to the lovely, kind, blonde haired young lady that worked here? She use to make my coffee perfectly, never any issues, and NEVER any attitude. When I mentioned her, the 2 disrespectful girls were quick to dismiss it and say no one has ever worked here with blonde hair. As if I’m new to this establishment? Do better Bagel Schmagel, do better.
I have been going to this place very often. I got 4 everything bagels with tofu veggies spread. One morning, the bagel was burnt and I called after one bite and I offered to bring it back into the store. "We can't do anything about this" was the response I got from the store staff. There is a different between toasted and burnt and the fact that they won't replace it for a regular customer blows my absolute mind.
I wouldn’t even give one star. Today we placed an order on seamless and added very specific notes for our sandwich, bagel and two coffees. Yet the order still came completely wrong. Our coffee had no milk or sugar and the bagel was not what we asked for. Then we figured we could call the restaurant to resolve this instead of seamless. The customer service was less than satisfactory. They basically told us we placed the order wrong, but then when they read our notes out to us everything was correct. I had no idea what they were confused about. I asked if you felt confused by this order why didn’t you contact us to resolve it? He gave no answer. Instead he blamed it on us and seamless. Then continue to yell at us, which then made us turn to seamless. Seamless let us know that the restaurant does not give refunds. SO FYI IF YOUR ORDER COMES WRONG THEY WILL NOT GIVE YOU A REFUND! WHAT GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. After talking to seamless for a bit seamless decided to give us the refund. We will not be ordering here ever again and I wouldn’t suggest it unless you want your meal and mood ruined. There are plenty of great bagel places around the area and I would suggest finding a friendly neighborhood bagel shop that won’t scream at you for their mistakes.
I wouldn't go out of my way to buy any bagels here. The employees gave me strange looks when I ordered my bagel with lox on it. As the man behind the counter made the bagel, then gave it to the cashier, I could see the very rude, judging stares that they were giving me. I expected the employees to be polite and respectful, but instead they acted like children. That is why I rate Bagel Schmagel one star.
This morning was the worst experience I ever had with a bagel store. It used to be a favorite until I realized I was over paying. God forbid I complain about a dry-stale bagel because the owner will bark your head off, literally. He yelled and gave me the attitude of a mafioso. Not to mention the cut down on cream cheese or asking for a toasted bagel. I saw him grab his genitalia and say he hated me. He was not very friendly or happy about my complaint.
The store hours are wrong. The grill is off at 2 and the google listing says it closes at 3. If that is accurate though why would you turn off the grill 1 hour before you close ? I work in the food industry and that is absolutely bizarre.
I am befuddled that this store remains in business with their unwavering track record of poor customer service. I believe in giving places and people the benefit of the doubt, so I refrained from judging the store based on my first encounter. Everyone can have a bad day, and I understand that. During my first visit to their Bayridge location, the store was empty, and I was the only customer. The woman at the cashier was joking around and chatting with the deli staff, leaving me standing at the counter for almost four minutes before she took my order, despite seeing me come in. When she finally acknowledged me, she simply looked at me without saying anything. I greeted her and asked if they had decaf coffee. She curtly said "no" and resumed her conversation with the deli staff. I was astonished by her dismissive attitude. "No" was the only word she had spoken to me so far. I wanted to order something from the deli, but she didn't give me the opportunity. When I finally interrupted her conversation to place an order, the deli staff pointed to a sign by the counter that said "order here," where I had been standing the entire time. By this point, I was understandably frustrated, but I still tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. When the cashier finally came over, she disdainfully repeated that they didn't have decaf coffee. I politely said it was fine and told her I wanted a sandwich. She then sarcastically remarked, "Oh, you want to place an order now." If she hadn't jumped back into her conversation, she would have known I wanted a sandwich. Despite the terrible experience, I left a tip, hoping it would encourage better service next time. On my next visit, I ordered a sandwich with fried onions. The same cashier took my order and then informed me that they didn't have fried onions. I was speechless. She clarified that they had onions but not fried, so I asked if they could fry the onions. I couldn't understand why this simple request was so confusing or controversial. It felt like I was in one of those new-age restaurants that are deliberately contentious as part of the experience. This was the last straw for me. On my way back, I ran into my neighbor walking her dog and shared my experience. She told me that she has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and has never heard anyone say anything positive about the place. This only reinforced my initial bewilderment that this store remains in business. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.
I love this store but sadly today was my last day ordering from this . The service is so bad . I live 3 min from this location one time I order food they send me the wrong order I called them they said no this is what you told me and I have to ordered again and pay money again for their mistake, anyways I forgot about . Second time today I ordered two omelets for me and my son and the bagel for my husband. It came so late the food was cold , is no way they came straight here I live 3 min from them . The omelet with no toast no fries, I never seen omelet like that with no toast no fries, I called I said why it was cold and why didn't have fries or toast?! She was acting like didn't ear me first and than after sorry sorry . Sorry not fix everything . I paid money for this order I work to buy this food . Be better than that. .
I don't know what happened to this place. I'm assuming they changed management and/or ownership. I would go here multiple times every week for 10 years. The cost was always a bit pricey, but the food was amazing and staff was so friendly and hard working. I was happy to pay the price. That is not the case anymore. I've had miserable encounters with the staff over the last few months including a 2 bagel delivery order that took over 1.5 hours and I only live 2 blocks away. No calls, no communication, no effort and reallllly sour attitudes. Really sad. Bagel Schmagel was a staple in this community... was.
In 18 years of living in New York, these were without doubt the worst bagels I've ever had. I called to complain (took about 25 times before they even answered) and the person told me they "freeze the bagels to keep them fresh" and "you can microwave them before toasting if you want". I told them I wanted a refund. They said (with a lot of attitude), "We didn't do anything wrong, so no". Terrible place. response to owner's response: advertised as 'fresh' is not the same as "baked every two weeks and kept frozen until needed" so product not as advertised. I'm not even sure why you as a business owner think it's normal to say in response "but we bake the bagels every two weeks". You should probably take that down, because no one will read those words and want your product. I'm not unreasonable - a little customer service skills and a re-make would have saved the trouble, without the refund, but you guys just tend to act as though the customer is wrong when issues arise. Reading other reviews bears this out. It's not a huge neighborhood and the population is not especially transient, and there are other options around that have a better product, with better customer service and better prices. Anyway - after the nastiness of the phone call I feel it's not my problem and I'm not rooting for you guys. Good luck baking bagels every two weeks and arguing with customers
I’m too often disappointed with my order and won’t be coming back. Today I got the stalest bagel at 8am on Wednesday, their coffee always tastes like the bottom of the pot, and there is a decent chance if you order a sandwich or wrap with more than 2 ingredients they will miss one. It’s also more expensive than other places in the neighborhood.
Ughhhh got a bagel with Turkey cheese and egg. The egg was cold! My husband got bacon and egg, his egg was cold. When we went back the blonde woman at the counter wrote a note to the next guy to her about us. No one speaks English or understands when you are asking a question. When we have vacationed here in the past we usually get bagels at least one day for breakfast, shamgels, was good back then. This is really bad, it is sad what has happened to the quality of the food and service. Please hire a chef to make fresh eggs and hire a customer service manager to train people and provide good customer service. Sadly it is becoming a lost art.
They are open until 2pm but they shut down the grill and don’t make hot sandwiches at 1pm? Why? So the workers can run away right at 2. They basically shut down way before they close. Could they easily start cleaning up at closing time? Of course! But they don’t care about their customers.
We took my college age daughter here as she used to love it when she was younger. She drove 5 hours and had to go to the restroom, tinkle to be exact. They made up an excuse and said the restroom was not working. I complained to one of the owners who said in the past some people have trashed the place. I reminded him that we spent close to $70 and they should evaluate before turning a person away. Regardless of the taste of the food the experience put a sour taste in all our mouths. Stick it Bagel Schmagel.
We went to get bagels and they were ordered a scooped out bagel he is literally scooping it out with his hands no gloves Caught an attitude when I didn’t want the bagel asked for my money back
Update: it’s $25 for 2 sausage egg and cheese bagels now Last time we went we ordered sausage egg and cheese bagels but they forgot the sausage. We decided to give it another shot a few months later. We called for pickup but when I got there they said they lost the order. I repeated it to them and they didn’t have what we wanted (sausage egg and cheese). Why not just tell me you don’t have it over the phone instead of losing the order and making me come there only to tell me to leave? Rude, unorganized and a waste of time 0/10
I seriously won’t ever get food from there again. On a Saturday and the bagels were ROCK Hard!! You could barely bite thru them!! Wth! The 2 used for egg sandwiches were warm but flaky! There’s no way these bagels are kettle-boiled! The ordering website is a joke! You can’t request how you want your eggs, or butter, S&P on a egg sandwich??! Bay Ridge has plenty of bagel shops, this is not one to waste your time or money on (almost $8 for 2eggs, bacon & cheese on a bagel!)! Responding to Owner: Thank you for the update. I will be back for a follow-up; nothing like Kettle boiled. I’m sorry you went thru such a rough stretch w/a trusted colleague. Best of Luck!
Asked for a toasted bagel with extra butter, gave me a whole slab of unmelted butter and a half toasted bagel. I thought it was cream cheese at first when I opened it. Asked then to melt it again, they only burnt the edges—butter was still cold….
They overcharged me twice on the same order. Then gave me a hard time about fixing it once I brought it to their attention. Posted prices are not accurate. Be aware when shopping there and review your bill!
blonde woman in the fronts attitude is just disgusting. Kept going back to ask her for things and she just made it seem like I kept bothering her. 15$ for a small coffee and bacon egg and cheese. I told her crispy bacon and this is all the goo I got from it. Place has potential but not with customer service like this.
