Opinions de Flamingo Baby Kitchen Brooklyn
I traveled from Albany, NY to Brooklyn to celebrate a friend's birthday and before getting back on the road we wanted to try this place out. There was a 30-minute wait, but it appears to be a favorite spot to many and we walked around the neighborhood to kill time. The food was very good and the two young ladies that checked us in and waited on us were sweet and helpful (I think one girl name was Shanice?). The Mimosas were perfect, and we tried the tropical and the original. The catfish is made to perfection! Very cozy environment with a chic Carribean ambiance. There was a woman who cleaned off our tables and on the way out I asked her was it a family-owned business because I was so interested in the story behind this gem & she told me that she was the top chef and owner! She was very nice; I believe her name is Nikki and she was working just as hard as the rest of the staff there! I would give it 10 stars if I could and next time I'm in town, I'll pay them another visit. BRAVO FlamingoBABY!
The food is a great, but the short loc’d haired hostess with the chest tattoo is a godsend! Her service will make you come back again! She is important to the social progression and experience of this restaurant. :) highly recommend.
🗣 This spot right here is money you hear me. Let me get into details so first off the spot is kinda cozy if you know what I mean (small). Although its size I must say the staff and their whole attitude and friendliness is big they dont fall short of customer service as they do aim to please. I was skeptical at first but as my wife and I waited for seating which was a good twenty to thirty minutes we started seeing the food come out and I was just like I hope it is a good as it looks. Ladies and gentlemen this ish right here my God if I didnt have shame I would've picked the damn plate the food is an all around 100 out of 10. Ok so now onto the food I had the jumbo fried shrimp appetizer that was phenomenal it was lightly battered fully flavored and paired with a house kinda dill tarter sauce OMG so good I ordered two we definitely enjoyed that. For the mains the wife had the jerk chicken platter with a house salad dressing and the fried plantains. I had the southern platter which consisted of three pieces of golden brown crispy fried goodness damn I love chicken lol but yeah it was top tier paired with a house salad and candied yams. The yams were perfectly sweetened but might be too much for someone with diabetes like me but still enjoyable (everyone has different levels of sweetness they can tolerate for me it was fine even tho im diabetic). Also ordered a side of their mac and cheese thats was cheesy, creamy goodness and that crust on top perfect 👌🏿 shout out to their chef and sous chefs he/she/they did their damn thing back there. The food like I said was well worth the wait so frigging delicious. For drinks I had the rum punch and she had a Belini if thats how it's spelt drinks were on point my only complaint was I like a little more rum in my punch but too each is own .This spot again is cozy but the vibes was nice the music was dope had everybody singing it's a nice spot for a brunch date or dinner. Definitely recommend checking this spot out 10000/10. Yall did that Southern/Caribbean is a vibe 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
We were hungry for a “between little league game brunch” and found a gem. Get ready for a southern flair treat. Tucked into Union Street you’ll find a tiny, but airy and colorful escape. We’ve only been to brunch so far, but excited to try it for dinner too. Bring the kids and sit outside for a great Al fresco experience. The Banana French Toast is beyond… probably enough for two kids or at least a big kid and a few adult samples. Treat yourself to the basket of breads and fight over the biscuits with some of the sweet butter. The wait staff are all super friendly and are pleased to steer you in the right direction (ahem, the bread basket). You might not have found the flamingo by walking along the drag, but it’s worth the quick turn.
Love this new addition to Park Slope. Met the co-owner/chef/server Nicki when a friend and I decided to give it a try for Sunday brunch on Halloween. Living virtually across the street from flamingoBABY, I've waited and wondered what would fill the void left by Rose Water, a local favorite in this same spot for many years. This is a different experience for sure, but you can literally taste the love in every bite. I had an amazing scrambled eggs with sausage on brioche with grits on the side to die for. My friend had a salad with a salmon cooked to perfection. And I am just really rooting for this place. We might not have walked in had it not been for a couple post-meal raving about it. So glad they did and hopefully the neighborhood will turn out in support. This restaurant deserves it.
Had to be one of the HOTTEST days but we sat outside and somehow caught a lovely breeze for our Southern fixens with a Caribbean twist! Loved the Jerk chicken and waffles and the Ginger juice. I almost don’t want to review the place because it is so good and I don’t want a line of people out front the next time I go!
Food is great ! waitress was extremely rude came with my mom and nephews , maybe she wasn’t used to kids gave soo much attitude. It was my moms birthday
Great small space with huge personality and great service. Our waitress NaTasha was amazing, full of personality and a beautiful voice as she sang while moving around the restaurant. Nothing bad I could say here. I would definitely come back.
Me & babygirl had dinner at Ms. Nikki's restaurant, I had the broccoli & chicken tender and babygirl had chicken tenders with French fries. It's the best ever, but the broccoli is on point with the flavor and saute with onions. No matter what you order you will not be disappointed 👍💗 Ms. Nikki much love.
Food was 10/10. Drinks were drinking!!! 11/10 Customer service was also excellent, they took my number down and called me when table was ready, I let them know it would take me about 5 min to walk back and they were perfectly fine with that. The music was also great! Good vibes & very welcoming! Can’t wait to come back and try something different on menu. 🫶🏽
Best brunch restaurant in town! The staff here are amazing and super friendly, making every visit a delight. The food is ALWAYS made just right, with a unique menu that you won't find anywhere else. The laid-back atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing meal. And a special shoutout to Chelsea, who makes the best brunch cocktails—truly puts this place over the top. Highly recommend!
Loved loved loved this place. Food was delicious, the service was great and over just a 10/10. My friend and I had the oxtail which was a decent portion. We know most places give you 5 pieces and charge an arm and a leg but their portion was great. We also had the French toast with the chicken which was fried to perfection. The sweet and spicy wings remind me of general tso wings but they were delicious as well. And the Mac 🔥🔥. I would really love for them to expand in the near future. It’s definitely a vibe here
I took myself on a solo brunch date to this restaurant. I would recommend making a reservation prior to your visit. However, they do take walk ins. If you're a walk-in, you might be waiting a while. I had Demmoy as my server & he was very attentive & great! I ordered the Spiked Sorrel drink, which was delicious & refreshing. I ordered the "Basket Baby" as a starter & it was yummy! Warm cornbread & biscuits with honey butter & housemate jam. Then for the entree " Colossal Shrimp & grits". In my opinion, the food portions, drinks, atmosphere & service were amazing!
Some of the best food I’ve had! The hot honey wings are to die for. I crave them all the time. The Mac was good but wish the portion was a little bigger. Restaurant itself is cute but tight in there. Service was amazing. The waitresses are very friendly and polite.
We have officially found our favorite brunch spot in Brooklyn! We enjoyed cornbread, ackee and saltfish, fried chicken, blueberry French toast, and mac and cheese—everything was phenomenal. We also tried the sorrel and loved it so much that we ordered another round to take home. Chef Niki, thank you for pouring your love into your food, and a huge thanks to your team for the outstanding service and the warm ambiance. Please note that the restaurant is small and can only accommodate parties of up to four adults. They do not take reservations, but don’t let that discourage you. The food, drinks, and overall experience are absolutely worth the wait. We can’t wait to return during the week to try the curry and roti!
We had a private event for a birthday celebration. Food, drinks and service from the staff was great. Very cozy atmosphere with good friends made this a win. Definitely will be back, thank you!
Wonderful Sunday Brunch with my husband! This hidden gem transported us to a sunny paradise with great drinks, food, playlist and the kindest Chef and Owner Nikki. Her hospitality and energy mirrored the colorful and fun decor. I had the FlamingoBaby stuffed French toast which I worried may be too sweet, but it was just right. It’s a must try! Can’t wait to go back!
Delicious! We just left the restaurant and let me tell you, I’m already thinking about my next meal from there. This is an amazing spot. My husband and I ordered jerk chicken with French toast and crispy chicken biscuit sandwich with candid yams. Let me not forget the 4 cheese Mac and cheese. Chefs kiss 😘 Delicious! Everything was cooked perfect, taste was on point and the atmosphere was very welcoming. It felt like I went to aunties house for thanksgiving. Shout out to the owner and chef, she’s so sweet and welcoming. You will be in a food paradise coma!
Omg it was so freaking delicious. If you haven’t been to this place….👀 u playing!!!!! Such a quaint spot, music vibes✔️, front porch with outdoor seating options✔️and pleasant staff✔️. Let’s talk food!!! Hubby and two children at the table… decided to order three meals so I can enjoy them allllll 😃. So, I ordered the chicken and waffles….the waffles were golden and soft topped with fruit but the chicken😋 crispy, nicely seasoned with a tiny kick! The banana stuff French toast was made for dreamsssss!!! it sat in some sweet banana sauce and I was completely in love! Side of turkey bacon was the perfect compliment. I also got to enjoy the shrimp and grits 🥰 it was out of this world! It had this creamy sauce that I stirred through the grits before devouring them uggggh delish. The shrimp was cooked and seasoned to perfection…. But wait🙌🏾🙌🏾 the biscuits and cornbread basket. So good….👀 listen if u don’t order the basket… u playing. The biscuits are super tiny. But the soft crunch and honey butter 😋😋 my Gawd!! I’m and I’m a cornbread lover, def approve!!! Slather that thang with the honey butter and forget the calorie counting for the day😝. The rum punch 🍹 was punching…. All and all a 10 out of 10!!! Black owned ✔️ woman chef✔️ service✔️ New FAVORITE SPOT✔️✔️✔️✔️✔️
Find time for this place. The service personnel showed skill beyond any restaurant I've visited. The vibe is excellent, with spotless space and minimal decor. Food speaks itself. flamingoBABY Kitchen represents the ideal intimate eatery.
The food here is BOMB! We ordered the jerk chicken, vegetable roti, and cornbread skillet. Everything was fresh and packed with flavor! We sat outdoors and the outdoor seating area was super well set up and felt very COVID safe. The chef/owner is also the sweetest person and clearly pours her heart into every dish she makes. Will definitely be back here often
Well Well Well … where do i start ? Today my tastebuds danced and shouted from the TOP TIER dishes at FlamingoBABY Kitchen. This is definitely my number one go to spot for the rest of my entire being. I have never tasted something so amazing . The staff were very sweet and attentive; the Chef was so kind to come out and greet everyone individually to ensure we were enjoying every bite which added that nice comforting feel. If you havent has the pleasure of visiting this restaurant GETTTT THERE YESTERDAY! TELL HER I SENT you ! I cant get enough !
I haven't been disappointed with the food at Flamingo Baby Kitchen yet! The menu changes from the weekend and during the week so I guess that's good to be able to experience a variety of foods. The fish sandwich is delicious! If I recall, that was on the weekend menu. The salmon bites were fried to perfection 👌🏾 and had a light tasty crust, not heavy at all. The wings are good, as well as the yams! The curry goat was moist and tender! We had rum punch the first time I went but decided on a non-alcoholic beverage the ginger pineapple drink the second time around and it was very refreshing and complimented my meal perfectly. I'll be back FlamingoBaby Kitchen!
Short and sweet review: while the chicken was great, there’s probably many reviews of it, so commenting on a few other things. The lemonade was great in original, the Strawberry Passionfruit also hit the spot after a hot and humid day on the town. The cornbread skillet was fantastic, as the skillet created the perfect amount of crunchiness. Thanks, Demmoy for being an ever attentive server: again, hot and humid day meant lots of water consumed and our glasses never quite reached empty.
I’ve been wanting to go to Flamingo Baby Kitchen since last year, when I saw them on IG. I finally made it there this weekend. The food was amazing especially the potato salad. The place is small, I wouldn’t take a large party there. It was two of us and we waited two hours to be seated. I like the atmosphere it is chill and the staff were friendly. However that wait time can ruin the experience. People like myself waited because they hear the food is good and want to support the establishment. Giving a complementary item to say thank you for waiting that long would go along way. Or they can just post, expect to wait two hours so people can make an informed decision before they get there. Overall, the food was great!
Okayyy…the food at restaurant...WOW! Me and a friend came here spontaneously. There was a wait to get in but he told me the food was worth it. My expectations were low at the moment but when the food came out…NO TO GO BOXES! It is hard to choose which dish I enjoyed more. *Check the photos* I was tossing the oxtail in my mac and cheese. Salmon had a great texture; nice and thick. Rum Punch had me vibing to the music and our host was so kind! Definitely coming back!
I can’t wait to go back! I visited Flamingobaby Kitchen for Saturday brunch and everything tasted fresh and was delicious. The place is small but cozy. They offer indoor and outdoor seating. I had the pineapple ginger drink which was tasty and the strawberry passion fruit lemonade. I couldn’t really taste the passion fruit but it was still good. I ordered the wild Berry french Toast (my favorite brunch item) - 9/10 and the blueberry cream pancakes 9/10. The compotes with both items were really good! The food took around 15mins or so to come out but everything was fresh so the wait was fine. They have unlimited 1 hour drinks for $28 and the savory items like the Mac and cheese and chicken and waffles looked so good. So I have to go back!
Arrived at 12:30pm and felt like the latest to show up. We were sat right away then crowds started coming. But no one rushed us. I like to drink but that one rum punch had me feeling good. Food was very tasty! I wanted the full experience so I got their signature stuff French toast with jerked chicken. Best plate! I finished it. I’m probably gonna get the bottomless drinks next time.
Good food. The biscuits are of note. Skip the minis and just get the regular sized ones. It's worth it and a much better value (personally). We were served by Demmoy. They were kind and kept our water glasses and my friends' mimosas as well. Just be prepared for a wait. (Sunday afternoon) It was maybe 90min even though we were quoted much less. We did not realize how small the place was. Seats maybe 20-22 max. I do wish them success and plan to help them succeed... Because I'll be back (just next time, off peak 😅).
I’m from the south, so I’m a tough critic when it comes to biscuits, but Flamingo Baby did not disappoint! The biscuit is flavorful (not overly buttery nor greasy), moist, flaky, and not dense nor gummy. The eggs were cooked exactly how I like them - soft but not runny at all and not overcooked either + the cheddar tasted like good quality. The breakfast potatoes are crispy and flavorful, but also have a nice potatoey bite. I thought the Chicken sausage was Turkey sausage for a second, which I didn’t mind, because I like both - but the waiter confirmed it was indeed chicken. The service was fabulous with everyone who worked there being friendly and checking on us from time to time but not too much. I am looking forward to visiting again to see if I have a consistently good experience. Please do not change the biscuit recipe!
An unforgettable experience from the time you step foot into this establishment until you leave. I took my husband to celebrate his birthday here and as soon as we walked in we were greeted with such a warm welcome by the Owner/Chef, Ms. Nicki. Now let’s talk about the mouth watering FOOD, I am a very picky eater and when I tell you EVERY SINGLE DISH we ordered was not only perfectly prepared but so fresh and full of flavor. For starters, we had the codfish fritters and the cornbread (as you can see it was so delicious we started eating before we could take a proper picture). I had the escovitch snapper and my husband had the shrimp and grits and a side of Mac and Cheese. I will definitely recommend to all my friends. Thank you FlamingoBaby for an excellent meal, we can’t wait to come back for brunch!
Sooo got this recommendation from Instagram and it was a hit. We ordered a few things and shared them all. We started with the baby basket witch included the baby biscuits and corn bread with the codfish fritters. Some honey garlic wings side of Mac and cheese with candy yams and to end it We had the berry and cream French toast. Can I tell you everything is made to order so the wait was longer than usual but the food did not disappoint. Our mamasoas gave us 5 glasses By the end of it all we were stuffed and satisfied. Brunch well done😋😋😘😘
What a lovely and cute place! Came here for brunch on a Saturday shortly before 12 and were seated right away. After reading the reviews we were prepared to wait for our food, which they also mention in their menu. It took about 40-45 minutes, which didn't seem unreasonable and we also got unlimited mimosas so we were enjoying ourselves. The food was awesome. The fried chicken is so good, juicy, crispy, flavorful! The banana french toast is incredible, the filling was banana-heavy, I wish it had some creamy flavor as well. The mac and cheese was creamy and gooey but I wish it had a bit more flavor. The service was excellent! One of the best brunch places in the area and we will definitely return!
Customer service was amazing very nice staff and attentive as well. The food was great also especially the fritters it’s a must try. I got the chicken wings and oxtail with rice and peas which were both great and a large Mac and cheese to share. Real good spot I’ll definitely come back again.
Ask for Natasha 🫶🏽 tell her Kay sent you! Great food 🥘 great atmosphere a nice lil quiet corner that eventually gets packed with people waiting to eat the food here! I came hungry 🤤 and smacked my plate 🍽️ I was lost🫡definitely full for hrs afterwards! I had leftovers for a to go bag, and everything I had was delicious and very nicely portioned on the plates! I was treated extremely well which I always appreciate! Besides the food, Natasha did it for me …… she do not play! The kitchen do not play! They are here to slay you 🧏🏽♀️ hear me
Honestly, I was really pleased. The wait was about an hour so that was a bit of a downer. There were seats open but perhaps on reserve. Nonetheless I was not disappointed. The staff are friendly and down to earth. Demoy - I hope I'm spelling it correctly was great!! Gave great details and recs about the menu. Everything I had tasted good. The oxtail was tender. Rice n peas was good. Spiked sorrel is a yes. Margerita, a yes. My bf had jerk chicken... enough to share. My mom had the fried catfish and extremely particular... so if she likes the food then 🙏🏽. So should you go- absolutely
such a fun brunch spot with some DELICIOUS food and drinks. they had an off-menu special of curry chicken empanadas which i had to try. i also had a side of plantains and we all split the mac and cheese. the food was a 10/10 and the service and atmosphere were great as well. i came all the way from Harlem and i will definitely be bringing others to this spot.
Came here on a Sunday with one of my friends after Church. Listen - if you are starving on a Sunday - do not come here. Yes, the wait is LONG. It’s a small, quaint space- & that’s just what it is. Be prepared to wait 2 hours- but all in the name of supporting a Black Woman owned business. Now let’s get into the experience: I ordered the Catfish and Grits with a side of Greens. My friend ordered The classic French Toast with Catfish. IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT! The only thing I wasn’t the biggest fan of was the greens but in their defense - my moms greens wins awards ! So I’m biased. The service was warm and friendly. Everyone was so pleasant and patient. I really can’t wait to come back and try some of the other items on the menu. Definitely during the week next time though.
The vibes were immaculate! Small indoor/outdoor seating, and we waited 30 mins before being seated. (We lolligagged in a bookstore in the meantime). Friends and I did it as a last stop to a girls weekend to see Denzel in Othello. The food was truly immaculate, with LARGE portions, and bomb vibey waitstaff. When they didn't have the one thing, I wanted, our waitress was patient and kind, asking the kitchen staff for accommodations for my next order. For drinks, they had bottomless mimosas and bellinis; $35 per hour, and it slapped. I had the jerk chicken and "waffles" (which I substituted for french toast), and mac and cheese. BAYBEE! I stuffed myself with as much as I could and am excited for the leftovers later! If this place gets insta famous and adjust their menu to appease others it'd be a shame, because this place is just perfect the way it is. As an Afro-Caribbean person, I was overjoyed!
I was with a party of 6 and arrived right before opening and there were already a few people in line waiting for the restaurant to open. The chef came out personally and thanked us for waiting and explained that it’s a small black owned business where she’s the only one in the kitchen. She was realistic about the wait times for food but let me tell you guys, the food is worth the wait. The drinks are amazing and make you feel as though you’re in the Caribbean. I enjoyed everything from the waffles, pancakes, jerk chicken, fried chicken, to the mac and cheese. Overall the service and food was amazing. I would come here again and I recommend everyone try this place out.
This place is really cute and small, I feel like on the weekend it has a high chance of being jam packed. Everything on on our plates was extremely tasty, the mac for me was a bit underwhelming though but still tasty. The drink was definitely hitting and was also really good. Our server was very attentive. I’m for sure going to make my way back because the menu is enticing, they even have a weekend menu, so I have to come on the weekend. 8.5/10 So I made my way back finally and I had brunch, ABSOLUTELY delicious. I REALLY enjoyed the baby basket, flaky buttery biscuits truly do something for me and they hit it right on the nose, love a sweet cornbread as well. My catfish was delightful and paired well with the grits, the cheese is extra but how do you eat grits without cheese? Service was great, still not too keen on the seating but the food definitely makes up for it. Definitely will be revisiting for a weekend brunch soon! If you’re look for a tasty brunch and a chill environment, I highly recommend. 9.5/10
First time visiting Flamingo baby , I must say , I'm pleasantly surprised , I love good food and found it with Google . The reviews online got me hooked . The food was great, everything we ordered was excellent no complaints. I especially love the banana baby French toast with jerk chicken and the Sorrell w Gin. My better half enjoyed your Ackee / plantains. Thank you , service was great 👍.
I love this place! It has a homey, intimate vibe and atmosphere. Staff is wonderful, they’re all very attentive, sweet and have great personalities. The food is amazing!!! Literally the best fried chicken and waffles, and rum punch I’ve ever had. They also have tasty appetizers and yummy grits. I also really enjoyed their spiked sorrel You’re paying for great quality food; portions are generous. They even have great music! I’ve been coming here for a few years now. Ignore the people complaining about the wait. You don’t have to wait hours for your food or to be seated, maybe 25-30 minutes max. However, that’s beyond reasonable given it’s a small space and the food is made fresh. I’ll continue to be a customer and I highly recommend.
The atmosphere is amazing. Nice and cozy. Food was tasty. The chicken is a bit heavy on the pepper. The catfish was really good. Fried well. The staff was welcoming. There is 20% gratuity a automatically no matter the size of the party
The food was great chicken was a bit under seasoned it was a very long wait and it was only me I waited for a hr & a half to be seated at the bar and the bar chair was really high so my legs where squished between the chairs and bar top drinks where good but it’s a bit pricey I also got the codfish fritters there where really good overall food was a 8/10
There's not a lot of space inside so the wait time will vary depending on the day. I waited about 20 minutes for two people to be seated on a Sunday afternoon, and the food took even longer. Despite the wait time, the food was awesome. I ordered the chicken and toast, which was a nice contrast from the traditional chicken and waffles.
Long wait on a Sunday afternoon but definitely worth the wait for the dishes we ordered. Oxtail 10/10. Mac & cheese was 10/10. Basket of biscuits/cornbread 10/10. Jerk wings 5/10 Very tiny and cozy place but because the chef probably prepares the food as you order it’s a very good quality. Would go back but would arrive very early!
I had the pleasure of trying Flamingobaby yesterday. The food was really good, although not being able to order anything extra after you put your order in is a little disappointing. Our experience with our waitress (Shenice) was not a welcoming one. She made a margarita for my friend, which basically tasted like artificial flavored water. We expressed to her, not liking the drink and got nothing but attitude because of it and she didn’t even bother to offer to take it off the bill. She did give us another drink, but refused to make another margarita which again was a bit offsetting and disappointing. This was not good customer service by any means and would deter me from coming there again because of this.
My sister took me here for my birthday today, the food was great. Waitress was unprofessional and not friendly at all. For the prices you have at this resturant yall should have better waitresses with better attitudes here. I would love to come back only if I don't get the same waitress. The funny part was she was not even cute at all she should stay humble at all times.
The food was INCREDIBLE! Met the chef, she was the sweetest and knows her stuff. Service was a little green, but I'm sure the staff will work harder and be more knowledgeable and service oriented. Cute spot. I came prior when it was a different restaurant, wanted to check out the new cuisine. Great brunch spot. Came with the BF. Flavorful.
My friend and I decided to check out Flamingobaby Kitchen for brunch on a Sunday at 12:30pm. They do not take reservations, but Google estimated a 15 minute wait, and that was fine by me. My friend got there earlier than me and was quoted 30 minutes for a table. We checked in at about 1:10, and the staff informed us that the tables were turning slower because they were understaffed. There was one person for the entire restaurant. At first, I was going to give them 5 stars because that really sucks if people call out and you still have to operate, but when I looked at other reviews, long wait times are not an anomaly. The inside is small, so they can only seat about 10 parties at once. The ambiance is casual and the larger tables in the back have cozier seating options. We got the mini biscuit basket ($14), chicken and waffle with jerk chicken ($24), and Bananababy! stuffed french toast ($20). The biscuits were TINY yet delectable bites. These are the first biscuits I have had in NYC that were not dry. However, I think $14 is really overpriced because they are so small. The other dishes were definitely worth the price taste-wise and portion-wise. I would definitely recommend ordering a regular sized biscuit if it is something you wanted to try instead of the mini ones. The idea of the stuffed french toast is genius because french toast doesn't have a lot of flavor on its own and is pretty dry. Again, no problem with the price on this, but since it's a pretty heavy dish, I would prefer a smaller portion size for a lower price, which I still feel would be filling. My friend said that the jerk chicken was moist and that the dish was tasty as well. When we were waiting for the table, the hostess explained that it would take a while for someone to take our orders. Since all of this was said up front, I feel like it would be unfair to criticize the service too harshly. Everyone was sweet and friendly despite the stress of being understaffed. The food also came out within a reasonable time. The one issue I had was that the water refilling was slow, and heavy dishes need liquid to break it up! Overall, it was a great experience, and I would be interested in returning for brunch or to try their dinner service!
My goddaughter took me out for brunch to Flamingo Baby. The wait time was 1 hour, which we knew it would be a little wait because the restaurant is so small, it looks like only 20 people can fit inside. The hostess/waitree/bartender called us to say our table was ready. Our order took about 20 to 25 minutes which wasnt bad because we ordered biscuits, drinks and was conversating. I ordered fried catfish and grits. My goddaughter ordered fried chicken, yams and mac. The food was delicious!! Compliments to the chef! I ordered a coffee. They had no sugar substitutes to offer a diabetic. No Equal, No Splenda. My coffee was not hot. For $5, i wasnt asked would i like a refill. As a matter of fact we were never asked how we were doing, was everything okay. Our waitress was okay. She really didnt jave nuch personality. I told her it was my first time there and i thought about ordering the catfish, did she recommend it? She said You want the strips or filet? My question went over her head. The customer service i wasnt feeling. It was like, sit, take your order, eat and get out we have people waiting. I think they should enclose the outside deck to make more space because when its cold who wants to eat outside. The only reason I would eat there again is because the dood was great but i would do take out because i dont work hard all week to go out and spend money for not so good customer service.
This is a fairly small restaurant in terms of seating but delivers very big! Ashley our waitress was excellent and the food. The food! The food didn't disappoint. Great big portions withe even bigger taste. I had the snapper with 4 cheese Mac and friend plantains. I felt like I was back home in the Caribbean enjoying a Sunday lunch! Highly recommend.
Flamingo Baby Kitchen was absolutely fantastic! Although we had to wait over 30 minutes, the service was impressively quick. Our waitress, Shanice, was delightful! The food was scrumptious— we enjoyed the Jerk Chicken and Waffles, Catfish, and Chicken Tenders with fries. The drinks were refreshing as well. Overall, this place is definitely on our list to revisit!
Waitress was not friendly. (Shanice) I didn't like the service. She placed her bare hand on the straws we asked for. She took too long to come back and see if we needed anything else. Sat and waited over twenty minutes for the bill. The food was good. I had french toast with fruit. I had coffee and cream. I was charged for the cream, Omg! My daughter had fried chicken, mac and cheese with a salad. Due to the poor service, I will NOT return.
The food was great but the service sucked. This place is really small and would probably benefit from taking reservations instead of walk in only. Telling ppl they need to wait outside in the middle of November is crazy… our food came out before our drinks. And the two waitress weren’t very friendly.
VERY small space. If u don't get there when they open you will be waiting a LONG time. Once seated, be ready to spend some time there because it takes about 30-45 minutes for your order to come out. Staff was nice. VERY pricey (side of 2-piece chicken was $11!!!). Not sure I would return because I like to get the most bang for my buck, but it is a cute little spot. I ordered the Berry French Toast which was good but WAY too sweet. All the best wishes for this establishment.
I went to FlamingoBABY for brunch. To start they do not take reservations and the place is quite small but they do have outside seating as well. The hostess took our names and number down to call once a table was ready but we told her we would be sitting right out front since they had seats there. We waited an hour before I had to follow up with her on the status of us being seated. She went on to say that she came outside and called my name which I let her know she did not because we are literally sitting right in the front. She was able to get us a table within 5 minutes but I was already annoyed and hungry. Once seated, I ordered the ackee & salt fish as an appetizer, which were really good but all of our food took so long to come back out. For the entrée, I got the buttermilk pancakes, which were delicious. Crispy edges but still nice and fluffy. I also ordered turkey sausage, which had a hair in it, so I sent them back. We waited about 15 minutes for our drinks, 20 minutes for the appetizers and 30 minutes for our entrees. And by the time the waitress came back out with my turkey sausage, I was basically done with my pancakes. That's how long it took for them to bring me fresh sausages. I would love to go there again because the food was actually good but the wait time to be seated and to get our food makes me think twice. Due to how small the place is, they should consider accepting reservations.
Just wanted to give heads up that this restaurant only seats a max of 4 people. I called ahead, looked at the website & even arrived an hour early to meet the walk in only requirement, this was never mentioned. I had to find a place to seat for 6 on Mother’s Day, with the majority of the party coming from Harlem. I’m sure the food is good but the overall experience logistics and customer service wise is terrible. This is the second time something like this has happened with seating so I wouldn’t recommend for anything that isn’t casual
We waited over 30mins to be serviced despite there being tables available. The food was mediocre and over priced. The service was horrible. We felt a bit uncomfortable while eating due to the attitude and the disorganization .They are understaffed and it is evident in how guests are serviced.
Great location! And cute restaurant - can dine inside or out. We’ve wanted to dine here for several months. Finally made it. Unfortunately, I’m not sure why we had to wait over half an hour for corn bread starters and witness two other parties arrive after us yet get served before us. We then waited - what felt like an eternity - for our main meal; kale salad and French toast. Not complicated dishes. While waiting we drew this to the attention of two of the wait staff. Would have appreciated some attention from our server - perhaps a check in now and again just to see if everything is okay. We wanted a dessert although thought we would be waiting for a long time, so paid up and left. Still worth a visit. They have a good choice of food menu items and drinks. Nice place to go during the warmer months when the weather is comfortable to sit outside. Aside from the service - recommended.
Get ready to wait. We waited upwards of 1.5 hours to get in, and we saw others waiting when there was space inside. They likely do not have enough cooking staff. A pair got their food before our party of four did and we waited about an hour to receive our food. We ordered, but one of the items we requested fell off the list somehow. 20% tip is built in.The food wasn't bad.
This place had good reviews so decided to check it out with a friend. We got there at 1:30 and were told the wait was 40 minutes, we didn’t get seated until 4pm. The owner came up to us and apologized and asked if we wanted mimosas however, she never came back and brought them and we didn’t see her again. I ordered the jerk chicken and waffle and the chicken was dry but the waffle was delicious. My son had the children’s chicken and waffle and the breading was falling off his chicken. I really wanted to enjoy this place but we left feeling disappointed.
Randomly decided to go out for an early dinner on Saturday afternoon. We arrived at around 5:30 and were told it'd be about 30 minutes. The door had multiple signs stating they were CASH ONLY so I used the wait time to walk to a local bank to take out cash. We also walked a few blocks down to Starbucks for a beverage before heading back. Once we returned at 5:57 I went back to the hostess to see the status of our table. She turned and said "it'll be about 25-30 minutes". I responded "you told me it'd be 30 minutes 30 minutes ago". When she realized she'd already told me that she apologized and said she'd seat us shortly and to just wait at a table outside. We obliged and at around 6:20 she came out and got about 4 couples and led us inside to our various tables. The venue is small but cute. They were playing mid tempo afro beats the entire time which was nice. The menu was updated and more extensive than what I'd seen online. I decided on the basket of biscuits and cornbread to start. My daughter ordered the FlamingoBaby chicken platter with candied yams and I got the sweet and spicy wings and potato salad. The bread basket came out after about 25 minutes. It was just ok. The 2 mini biscuits tasted like pipeyes but less salty. The cornbread was ok but didnt taste fresh out the oven. The honey butter was the star of the show though! The rest of the food took about 45 minutes to come out. I honestly should have left being that I'd been "waiting" to eat since 5:30. The staff was very polite but honestly seemed clueless. Almost like they were kids managing the house while mom and dad were gone. My wings were mid at best. More sweet than spicy, not too crispy and warm when they were brought out 5/10 The potato salad lacked flavor...it wasn't "eggy" enough for me personally. It gave potatoes and mayo so that was also 5/10 My daughter said her fried chicken lacked seasoning (so she doused it in their house hot sauce). It was crispy and she got 3 big pieces so I'd give it a 7/10. Her side of yams was decent...a little too soft for my liking but they tasted ok. 8/10 The best part of the meal was honestly the side platter of MAC and cheese we ordered after waiting for the bread basket. The serving size was large- more than enough for 2 to share. It was hot and fresh and very creamy and cheesy. It perfectly complimented our meals and provided a substantial amount for a doggie bag. 9/10 Our bill was less than $90 (without tip). I thought that was excellent being that sometimes I can spend $100 at Applebee's for mediocre chain food. I didn't order any cocktails as I was on an empty stomach and honestly none of their signature drinks sounded appealing. They are CASH ONLY so we were able to pay and walk right out which was great being that I'd spent almost 3 hours there smh. All in all I'd give the experience and food a 5/10. Definitely not worth the crazy wait times. The staff was very polite and well intentioned but they seemed understaffed, untrained and overwhelmed by 20 something patrons they had (both inside and outside). I can't say I'd go back honestly 😕
Employee turn over's speak volume. Brunch here is really good, but I've ordered fried chicken here twice and both times the cook has missed the mark with flavor. No taste at all. Its fried well but taste nope! You should also be ashamed of yourself charging $8 for cornbread. Its literally one medium size slice, sliced 4 ways. I believe in supporting my people, but my people must listen.
I have tried to have lunch at this restaurant four times but each time I’ve gone it has been closed. I made sure to check the website prior to going to make sure I was going on a day it listed as open, yet it was closed again today. I was eager to try the food since it has great reviews but unfortunately I’m done trying.
The Jerk Chicken Tenders tasted burnt and the meat was DRY. The Cod Fish fritters were too salty, they had a good flavor but the fish itself could've been soaked longer prior to preparing. The catfish was too salty as well. The Sweet and Spicy Wings were Mid at best, lacked flavor, which is odd considering it was covered in sauce. The Tropical BBQ Tenders were overly salted and needed more of a flavor to them it didn't taste like much, it reminded me of Sweet and sour sauce a bit, but diluted unfavorable kind. The Chicken and Waffles; Chicken came out appearing to be over cooked was very dark and looked like it was cooked in older oil. The skin had more flavor than the actual bites of chicken. The waffles actually tasted good. The fruit on the waffles tasted fresh. The Mac and Cheese was also good, not great. Instagram influenced my decision to go here, I fell for nice pictures. At one point a server asked us "how's the food?" We told them it was "ok, but a few items are overly salted." Then she proceeds to very loudly ask every table around us " how's your food?" They all said "ok." This made us feel very uncomfortable. Like it was there way of saying "oh, well everyone else liked there's." I actually didn't see the point in asking if they didn't plan in addressing any if my concerns. Truthfully I was prepared to leave with my concerns unaddressed because I had already made up my mind, "NEVER AGAIN" I didnt find the service good nor the food and will NEVER recommend or go back. So, again, dont understand the point of asking. $152 down the drain. They added an 18% gratuity, which on the menu it states will be added to parties of 4 or more. We were a party of 2. When brought to their attention, it was some nonsense about the menu needing to be updated. I go out to have a good time and am not in the business of being argumentative. So, okay, they got that. Trust and believe it was the 1st and LAST TIME going. A complete waste of time and of a dining experience.
Where do I even begin with Flamingo Baby Kitchen???!!…. I was so disgusted and disappointed at the same time. Let me preface by saying I have been observing all of the cool reels on Instagram for this restaurant. I saved it in my things to try folder. I should have shared this restaurants information with friends that needed places to go For their celebration. I originally was supposed to go here for my son’s graduation, but couldn’t get there on time. I was so excited to be able to finally treat my husband to this restaurant for his birthday. When we got hit there, needless to say, the place did not look aesthetically pleasing from the outside nor when I went in on the inside. But I didn’t let that deter me. I will still excited sit down and finally experience this and talked about restaurant. So when we went into the restaurant, I was greeted by the manager, who was standing behind the bar area saying you can step back outside someone will be with you. Strike one the way she said it was not welcome. When I met the greeter, she was Nice. I was then informed that our party was too large to be seen to be accommodated. We were a party of eight. She asked the manager hey can they sit in the restaurant and the manager told us no absolutely against our restaurant policy to sit parties over six. She stated that it’s on their Instagram and on their phone when you called, I didn’t see it on any of those places. But I digress.. I looked around the restaurant and there were only three people sitting down eating in the restaurant and one person outside in the patio space he wasn’t even eating. So I asked can we break our party into two separate tables? We won’t even sit together and you can serve our food at two different times it’s OK. And she still said stated no She will not accommodate us even if we are too separate tables because we’re going to still want to wait around for each other. Mind you this is about two or 3 o’clock in the afternoon and their restaurant is pretty much empty. She also informed me that there was only One chef as well. But I think what turned me off the most was the managers attitude. She was not nice. She was not a great representation of the restaurant. She had turned myself and my whole family off so much. I had to call a couple of my friends and let them know. Don’t worry about going to that establishment. I cannot read the food, because I wasn’t even greeted nicely or seated or given the opportunity to be two separate parties to enjoy the food. But I decided to come on here, just merely on the merit of nasty attitude and the inability to accommodate when your restaurant is empty. Attitude is so important when it comes to where you were spending your money. Downside I will not go to flamingo ever again nor will I recommend it to any of my friends, family or associates. But on the bright side, I was able to go to a really nice restaurant about eight minutes away call Shane’s Here in Brooklyn and it was nicely accommodated and the food was delicious.
Waited 45 minutes to get in (no problem) 15 minutes to get the waiter to the table, then we order & our drinks come but the appetizer took over an hour. Terrible service. The waiters are absolutely horrible . Attitude attitude and more attitude for them to do their job. If I could give them a -1000 I would. We ordered the rum punches it's a solid 6.
Please go when you have time to waste I mean that literally, I love supporting small black businesses especially in Brooklyn but some need to do a bit better, I understand this is small and family owned however we never got seated. we walked in at 2:19pm Gave our name was Informed the wait was only 35mins long, we agreed she took our information down, we walked outside and waited. 35 mins turned Into an hour; we still have yet to receive a phone call at 3:45pm. We left went to Shane’s Brooklyn, arrived reservations were honored and we were seated within a short period of time. We are still waiting for the call to be seated
Decided to take my younger brother to this restaurant for his birthday and that was my first mistake. Greeted with attitude as soon as we were seated in the patio area. 20 mins later we were able to place our order. Fast forward 30 more minutes and we are still waiting for our appetizer. At this point we decide to inquire on the reason our order is taking so long (which we haven’t been updated on during the entire time being there). While question the waitress and manager we were met with more attitude as if it was our fault the food had not come out yet. We decided to wait another 10 mins before being asked by the party diagonal to us if we are having the same issue as them (terrible service and food still not provided). At that point we decided to cancel our order and leave the restaurant. I would not recommend anyone go to this establishment on a regular day, let alone a birthday.
I’ve debated writing this review because the food here is genuinely phenomenal. Every dish I’ve had has been full of flavor, well-executed, and memorable. The menu is impressively varied, which makes it a great option for both adventurous diners and those who tend to be a bit more particular. On food alone, this restaurant easily earns the reputation it has, and I’ve recommended it in the past without hesitation. That said, my most recent experience left me questioning whether great food is enough to justify continuing to return. The establishment itself is very small, which I understand makes seating limited. It’s also first-come, first-served, which is fair. But what I cannot overlook is the lack of professionalism and courtesy from the staff. This past weekend, I called ahead as I was just around the corner to ask if there was space available. If the answer had been “no,” I would have happily gone elsewhere. Instead, I was met with a dismissive, almost mocking response. The woman on the phone acted as if my question was ridiculous and reluctantly told me, “Yes, I guess there’s space, but you just have to get here.” I arrived literally two minutes later and waited outside with my partner for about 15 minutes before anyone came to acknowledge us. When a hostess finally did appear, she shouted something unclear to the line and walked away. The guests ahead of us turned and left, but I didn’t catch what was said. I stepped inside to politely ask for clarification, only to be met with a condescending look and dismissive body language. When I asked again, she abruptly told me that they weren’t seating anyone or adding names to the waitlist, and wouldn’t be doing so for another 90 minutes. To add to the frustration, this interaction took place at 12:00 p.m.—two hours after the restaurant had already opened. Meanwhile, tables inside turned over very slowly, and when parties did leave, the tables often sat uncleaned for far too long. I want to emphasize that it saddens me to write this. I am a firm believer in supporting Black-owned businesses, especially those led by Black women. But it is frustrating, and frankly discouraging, to be met with unprofessionalism and outright rudeness when the food deserves so much better representation. Hospitality is as much a part of the dining experience as what comes out of the kitchen, and unfortunately, the front-of-house service has been inconsistent at best and, in this case, outright hostile. If this had been my first visit, I doubt I would have ever returned. And that’s the most disheartening part—because the food here is truly some of the best I’ve had. I only hope the service one day matches the caliber of the cuisine.
I was so excited to try this place with an old friend & catch up & eat good food.. but unfortunately was met with hostility from the waitstaff. A new member of their staff (food runner assuming) placed two starting dishes on our table right away (we have never been here before) & wasn’t sure what to expect. After 5 minutes we then started to nibble the corn bread & frits (assuming maybe they were like bread put out on a table) & the waitress or hostess comes & starts coming at us. We apologized for taking a nibble but we had genuinely not known the situation & would pay for those dishes. & then rest of the time was met with completely rude & disgusting behavior. Very unfortunate because the food was great! But I have not been met with such hostility & anger over something that wasn’t our fault & we were more than happy to pay for the food set down on our table. I work in the restaurant industry & regardless of any situation I would never think to come at my customers that way; especially if they were calm and apologetic after the harsh words. I would come back for the food possibly, but very very disappointed. I hope the hostess/waitress’s day gets better because I’d hate for her to just be that bitter on a day to day basis.
I actually love the food here, but the waitress that I had yesterday was the worst waitress I have ever had in my entire life. HER NAME WAS SHENICE. She was extremely rude, and made us all uncomfortable. The whole service was horrible: We asked for another order of cornbread, and she said that we couldn't add on anything. She never told us this before we ordered, just told us in the moment. Luckily, we ended up getting a second order of cornbread. I asked for a margarita to be made with top shelf liquor, as opposed to the pre mixed margarita. She ended up making an acidic, undrinkable mess. I tried to get her attention at first, but then A nice older man brought all of our delicious food to the table. I put the margarita at the end of the table along with the other things to be taken away. I got the attention of another waitress, and informed her that the margarita was not good, and that I could not drink it. She went and relayed it the message to our waitress who was at the other end of the restaurant. When our waitress came to clear our table, I informed her about the marg, and she became visibly annoyed and upset. She stated: "Well why didn't you say something when I first made it for you? Well, I can't take it off, so you can either get something else or not!" Then she just stood there with all this un needed attitude... It was very JARRING. I proceeded to tell her that I would like another margarita, ans she stated that she wasn't going to make me another one, and that all she had was the pre made one that I didn't want. She then told me that I had to choose something else. I don't really drink anything else, so I ended up just getting the rum punch and giving it to my bf. I just thought that was so rude and unfair. I felt like as a customer, a frequent patron, that I would have been treated better. I have been to this place numerous times, and everyone has been just lovely. I brought my best friend to the restaurant with me yesterday, because I had told her about how lovely the place was and that it was black owned. I love supporting my people, but this is the type of behaviour that is inexcusable. Throughout our dining experience, I literally was making excuses for this waitress's behaviour, to my friend, because I do really enjoy the food there. I kept telling her that the rudeness was worth it, because the food was really really good. In the end, I felt cheated and disrespected upon leaving there. I rarely ever leave a review, especially a negative review, but this experience really has me on the fence about whether or not I will ever return here...
The service was pleasant. In no world would I ever order takeout from here again. The wait is entirely too long! I ordered Oxtails at 12:08pm. I was told it’d be a 25 min wait and the only other people in the restaurant at the time were leaving. I didn’t receive my food until 12:47pm and the rice was hard and crunchy. For the final result to be what it was, this spot was a total waste of time and money. Responding to your response. I was offered Jasmine rice over rice and peas 5 min before I received my full order, so relax. I def voiced my opinion when I was there. I came online because the wait was ridiculous and I should’ve read the comments before visiting your establishment. You opened at 10am and I ordered at 12:08pm. The rice shoulda been done. I didn’t walk in upset at all. I didn’t even mention not being able to order over the phone until the wait for quoted at 25min. I also started my review by saying the service was pleasant.
