First time experience in historic Benihana with significant Hibachi style cooking. Food are cooked in front of you and fresh! The chef 👨‍🍳 is very entertaining and shows tricks as well as engaged with guests specially with kids. Loved the hot soup at the beginning and green tea ice cream after food.

This place has an outstanding view of the bay. The service is cheerful and very helpful. I came here during lunch time which isnt the usual, though they do have separate menus available with different portions and price points as well. I had a feast of a lunch with 2 entrees, a starter and a cocktail and for what it is, 50 dollars is a very reasonable price range. The yakisoba is nicely flavoured and the meat is juicy and delicious. The cocktail.. i had the cucumber collins and it was.. interesting. I enjoyed it but i see why its a hit or miss.

Great food. The chef is very skilled. Has been working in the same restaurants for 20+ years. The lunch menu is cheap. We had the two item meals with soup, chicken fry rice, and vegetable included. The chef did a lot of tricks in front of us. Quite impressive.

I like to visit this location because of the great happy hour options and prices. Philip is another reason we like this location. He is always attentive and greets us like friends rather than just a customer. It’s nice to be remembered when we visit. Oh and the waterfront views are priceless. Food is delicious as always. It’s always an amazing time, I enjoy watching the show the chefs are pronominal. Elio was an incredible waiter checked in on the table multiple times, any time the drinks were looking low emoji was there asking if we needed refills, had great recommendations on what to get from the menu very satisfied. Excellent service. Had Grace and Rames check in on the table, I couldn’t help myself but tell them how wonderful the experience was, it’s great to see management on the floor making sure everything is running smooth. I enjoy coming here and will continue to come.

He anticipated our needs without being intrusive, kept everything running smoothly, and had such a positive, kind energy throughout the meal. I had a great experience this year celebrating my birthday at Benihana’s! I’ve been coming to location for over 10 years to celebrate my birthday and I can honestly say things are changing in the right direction! The manager greeted with a smile and excitement!! It felt welcoming! Our server Elio had a great personality, interacted with everyone at the table and he also smiled the entire time. The chef James had all the jokes and gave us a great show! The food was great but they seem to be very short staffed. We waited ~30mins to have someone come get our order. The staff is kind and nice but they don’t have enough of them. So if you come, come with patience. The food is fabulous. The wait was worth it.

The food was amazing! Benihana has hibachi food down to a science and I only prefer them. The view at this location is top tier. I visited this location a couple of years ago, when I was visiting the area and fell in love with the view. It's off the water and by the airport. Watching the planes fly in and out of the airport is my favorite part. I brought my cousin here, this time, for his birthday. He loved it and is a Benihana fan, like me. Our server, Marcus, was phenomenal. We had a little food allergy misunderstanding/mishap and Marcus addressed it very promptly. I'm grateful for his response to my mom's allergy. Alphonse took care of the matter, swiftly as well. We look forward to visiting again when we are in town and hope to have Marcus again.

His excellent service, attention to detail and wonderful care made our dining experience stellar.! Thank you, Elio, this is the kind of service that all restaurants should provide. Hostess greeted us as soon as our foot stepped in. Seated us in choice seat. Day upgraded as we met Philip. Kind and professional service . We just returned from a world trip and Philip can hang with the best of them. Great send off to our last flight home and to end a wonderful world journey! 10 Stars 🌟 In my excitement I forgot to mention that the food was delicious. We enjoyed sliders and sushi. The vibe was great too! We definitely will return if we visit the Bay Area again!

My family and I went to Benihana’s to celebrate my nephew’s birthday tonight. We were seated in one of the private areas with two other couples, who were very nice to speak with. Our server was wonderful, our chef, Esdras (sorry if I misspelled the name) was personable, funny, and everything tasted excellent! He also made sure not to cross contaminate (we have people in our party with allergies). Our server (didn’t catch his name) was so attentive and kept our drinks filled. What made me want to write this review was that our chef was asking to show our table the colossal shrimp, because we’d never seen one. The manager, Ramez, (sorry if I misspelled that), happily went to bring out the shrimp. Ramez came out smiling and handed the shrimp to our chef while he enthusiastically showed us the shrimp. It was truly colossal! This is a very busy location. We come here several times a year and service has been hit or miss. But tonight, we had the best experience! I don’t know if they’re under new management or what, but tonight was a wonderful display of a business that’s well run with a competent, professional, and friendly staff. The small act of the manager listening to his staff and going to get items himself is an example of what I consider great leadership. I’ve worked in the service industry before and I was happiest and our business made the most money when we had leaders that worked WITH their staff to ensure the flow keeps moving. Tonight, we witnessed a well-oiled machine of a popular chain restaurant that keeps their staff happy. I am very impressed with our experience tonight. Thank you Benihana!

lol Great experience at Benihana today! We arrived right at opening, and the staff was already making sure everything looked perfect. Irma took care of us and was amazing; friendly, attentive, and always checking in. She explained everything clearly and kept our drinks refilled. Starting with his warm, fun & friendly vibe, to his awesome cooking skills. He even did a few different/new tricks just to keep things fun & interesting.🤩 He was super attentive and made sure we were all full, smiling and satisfied. And of course the food was absolutely delicious as always! James is the best chef I’ve had so far! Also, I forgot to mention that he even got my mom to order her steak cooked to “medium” instead of well done. First time she’s done that ever! Now that says something! lol We’ll definitely be back soon and hopefully we are lucky enough to get James as our chef! 👨‍🍳 Huge thank you to James! 😁

Our chef, James, didn’t just cook for us—he truly connected with everyone at the table. From start to finish, he went above and beyond with both the food and the overall experience. His cooking skills were incredible, but what stood out even more were the new and exciting tricks he performed that we hadn’t seen before. Large party of 9 so seating was real tight. It's a fun long dinner experience especially for kids. Chef was playful with fun shaped food and knife tricks. The food quality was meh - ordered the seafood platter stir fry but the shrimp was less fresh vs the calamari. Would rec the surf n turf with some red meat instead. Plenty of cocktail options.

I recently dined at Benihana and was thoroughly impressed with the main course, especially the fried rice, which was absolutely delicious. However, I found the Fried Calamari to be quite disappointing—it was the worst I’ve ever tasted, and I usually order calamari whenever I dine out. Benihana is one of those places that you don’t just go to for dinner—you go for the show. It’s the classic special occasion spot, and we’ve celebrated everything here over the years: birthdays, anniversaries, and probably a Tuesday or two that just needed a little flair. We’ve visited this Burlingame location several times, and reservations are definitely the move. On a recent Monday night, it was pretty quiet, and we were seated right away. Only one other group shared our hibachi table, so we had a few empty seats between us—love the extra room to spread out! 🍹 DRINKS: As always, we kicked things off with drinks. The cocktail menu is solid, with plenty of sake, beer, wine, and some rotating specialty cocktails. Right now, they’re running a “Dragon Bloom” series—highlight: margaritas with homemade dragon fruit sour syrup. There’s also a bubbly number called Pink Paradise (Prosecco + grapefruit liqueur + rosemary), and a Sweet Heat Paloma with tequila, blood orange, lime, grapefruit juice, and a spicy chili-salt rim. If you’re not drinking, no worries—they’ve got non-alcoholic options like lemonade, tea, soda, and a nostalgic classic: Ramune. 🥢 SAUCES: Each meal comes with their signature ginger and mustard sauces, both excellent for dipping everything in sight. Pro tip: ask your chef for “ice cream”—a.k.a. garlic butter—and thank me later. They’ll pop the cup right on the grill to let it melt slowly into buttery magic. I shamelessly ask for multiple refills throughout the meal. It’s THAT good. We even order extra containers of the garlic butter to take home. The price went up recently from $5 to $7.50, but honestly? Still 100% worth it. 🍤 FOOD: You’ll find a few appetizers like dumplings, tuna tartare, calamari, edamame, and shrimp tempura. There’s also sushi available if someone in your party isn’t into hibachi (but like… why are they here?). We usually go for the main hibachi entrées. I always order the Benihana Trio—filet mignon, colossal shrimp, and chicken. It’s the holy trinity of protein. My partner swears by the Land ’N Sea, which pairs filet with scallops. The scallops, grilled with garlic butter, are insanely good. You can customize your entrée by adding lobster, shrimp, scallops, or even a NY strip if you’re feeling extra. These dishes come as part of a six-course meal: soup, salad, hibachi shrimp appetizer, veggies, mushrooms, rice, green tea, and a scoop of ice cream or sherbet to end on a sweet note. Word to the wise: upgrade to fried rice! Yes, it’s an extra $7.50 per person. Yes, you’ll regret it if you skip it. It’s part of the experience, and tastes way better than the standard steamed rice. We also like to throw in an order of noodles on the side ($7.50 as well), because, balance. 🍨 DESSERT: We’ve only ever had the included dessert—scoop of ice cream or sherbet. I go rainbow sherbet every time, and my wife loves the matcha. If you’re celebrating, they’ll jazz it up with whipped cream, a cherry, and a candle. Cute, simple, and the perfect cool-down to finish the meal. 📸 EXTRAS: Toward the end of the meal, a staff member usually offers to take your photo. If you say yes, they’ll print and frame it for you on the spot. Not sure if it’s just for celebrations or for everyone, but it’s a nice keepsake to take home (along with your to-go box of garlic butter, obviously). ⚠️ ONE NOTE: We’ve had mostly great visits here, though there was one time they were seriously understaffed and the whole meal dragged out to over 3 hours. That was a bummer, and we took a bit of a break after that. But we came back recently to celebrate our anniversary, and it was back to the high-quality, fun dinner experience we remembered. 💸 OVERALL: Benihana isn’t exactly budget dining, especially if you’re having drinks or splurging on extras—but it’s always a good time. Between the dinner-and-a-show vibe, the garlic butter obsession, and the celebratory energy, it’s a worthwhile splurge. Celebrating a birthday. We were seated at the hibachi table with some unfriendly people decided to eat on the sushi side. Marcus was a very pleasant waiter. He listened to my allergies. Had an unexpected incident with yum yum sauce on my Ahi Tuna wasn’t aware there’s shrimp sauce in it had the food remade and was charged for the food that was discarded but removed later after speaking with the manager who gave me push back. The view is very pleasant.

Been here a dozen times at the least, food is pretty consistent but service varies. The chefs each do different tricks and cook a bit differently from one another, so your experience will vary. Service as a whole also can be either very efficient, constantly checking in on you and helpful, or barely visible and rare to see. The view is also really nice, beautiful to be at during sundown with the dining room being nicely lit with an ocean view. Just know unless your in a group of 7-9 you will be squeezed in with random people.

Elio's service was superb. He always checked on us to make sure we have everything we needed. He's an asset to your restaurant. The food was great but the steak could probably do we less salt. Other than that, everything tasted good. The teppanyaki grill should be cleaned.

I sat in the bar so I didn't have the traditional BH experience. Food was average. My server was great. Sat near the bar and didn't hear much but the bar tender running his mouth, swearing and complaining to his co workers about his car loan. So insanely busy. Luckily we arrived just before the crush of craziness. Too many cars for valet to handle with not enough room to park em all. We each tried different dishes from their special Benehana 5 course special. I ordered the hibachi steak Med.rare and recieved well. Salad came quickly nothing special there. The others ordered great appetizers Tempura shrimp looked the best. The sushi Dragon roll was eaten with lots of love and others said it was so much better than the California roll that I tasted . It was bland and disappointing. I ordered the hibachi shrimp as my appetizer and was truly disappointed as it was 3 little size 26-30 count size. The chicken fried rice we had to add lots of soy to make it tasty. The one lone Mai Tai drink was great. I asked and got a hot tea that was Luke warm at best. The bar was so crowded as was the lobby gauntlet trying to depart. The bar was four people deep waiting to order drinks over the top of counter customers.

$$$ prices are scary 😱! First you walk in and the decor is ugly with cream colored walls and little to show for so what the ambiance cause its ugly! Come on, you get about .25 cents of onion soup 🥣 ,.50 cents worth of salad 🥗 , $2 worth of rice 🍚 and $5-8 dollars worth of meat or seafood. How does that add up to $50 not including a soda which is about another $5. Come on! I know you have to make a profit but stop with the price gouging. I will never go again!!!!!!

Make sure to check the pictures I’ve shared below before considering a visit to this place. It’s really dirty—oily and greasy ceilings, rusty spots, and utensils that weren’t even clean. The whole place felt like a mess, though I’ll give credit to the chef’s performance and the service from Mehmet, who did a great job. The restaurant itself is very old, and the staff at the front desk come off as cold and rude, with a noticeable attitude. I’m not saying I expected to be treated like royalty, but for a place that markets itself as upscale restaurant, some basic politeness would’ve been nice. And just to be clear, I’m not even talking about respect here.

First time at a Benihana. Ordered at 9:06p. Said ready at 9:34p. Waited until 9:55p for food. Paid $55.48 for a KID MEAL and cheesecake slice. So overpaid and waited over 20mins past pick up time. 6-8 employees at the host stand the entire time, including 1-2 suits (assume managers). Watched the hostess (?) walk through the waiting area with my cheesecake in her hands. A few minutes later, watched another girl walk thru with a box asking where girl #1 went with the cheesecake. Literally couldn’t believe it. No salad dressing. Honestly, most annoyed I tipped for this crap service and pissed I paid for this crappy food I had to microwave because it was cold. This is what the hype is about? Not sure I get it. Also, valet only parking? Ok? You realize you’re FAR from being an establishment fancy enough to require valet right? Restaurant was soooo dingy. Yuck to this entire experience.

Edit: Being drenched in ice water and then asked to complete a long survey is not customer care by any standard. Do better. Original: Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this place at all. It was extremely loud and noisy, and the seating felt very narrow and cramped. The whole experience felt rushed, with the staff focused on efficiently moving guests through rather than creating a pleasant atmosphere. We were there for a team event, which made it even more disappointing. To make matters worse, at the end of the evening a waiter dropped four to five glasses of ice water directly on my back. All that was offered was a brief apology and two napkins, which felt completely inadequate given the situation. Overall, not a relaxing or enjoyable experience. I would not come back.

Beef Julienne and Shrimp This is my go-to lunch special at Benihana when I get the chance to visit on a weekday. Today, my family and I went to Benihana for lunch again. There were two other families besides us, and they, like us, were looking through the menu, seemingly searching for something. I asked first, “Why isn’t the lunch menu here?” The other person replied, “I was looking for that too!” We called the server over and asked if they had the lunch special. They said they did and brought us the menu. Why didn’t they give it to us in the first place? Why not provide the lunch menu when it exists? Isn’t that bad business practice? Maybe that was where my dissatisfaction began. Today, the food was noticeably less enjoyable compared to other visits. The beef wasn’t cooked evenly, and the vegetables were inconsistent in texture. What about the table behind us? They also weren’t given the lunch menu. Everyone at that table ended up ordering from the dinner menu, spending $50–55 per person for lunch. I can’t help but think this kind of business practice is wrong.

Worst experience! Ruined our Valentine’s Day. All this place cares about it making money and they do not care about their customers. We had a reservation and arrived 10minutes early. They had no parking and we had to park on the street and walk three blocks to the restaurant. Then when we checked in, we had to wait about 1.5 hours to be seated. I understand that it is Valentine’s Day but why wouldn’t they spread out the reservation times knowing that it would be busy? Maybe because all they care about is making money and not providing good service. Then once we sat down at the table (which they squeezed as many people as possible into) we still had to wait about another 20 minutes to get a drink. At this point it was almost over two hours waiting (with a baby in our hands) and no food. We ended up leaving and just ordering takeout at home. Worst dining experience have ever had in my life. I would recommend this establishment try a little to care for their customers.

I took my son to celebrate his birthday today, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. When we were seated, a drop of grease fell on me, and the table was greasy. I told a nearby waiter, but he didn’t do anything since it wasn’t his table. Our own waiter, however, resolved it promptly. Drinks took a long time, even though it was just opening for dinner and the restaurant was nearly empty. The biggest issue was with the chef. I was seated in front of him, and all the smoke from cooking blew in my face because the exhaust fan wasn’t on. When I asked if it was okay to move, he just said, “I don’t know” and continued working. Later, he served the wrong food because he didn’t account for our new seating. When I tried to order a steak for my son, he told me to go through our waiter, but by the time I did, he had already cleaned the grill and was leaving—again, no communication. The only positive was the busser, who was attentive and helpful. While I understand there’s a system to follow in the kitchen, better communication and basic customer care would have made a huge difference.

I’m not expecting amazing food from Benihana — I know it’s about the experience. But basic service should not be this bad, especially at this price point. We went on a Saturday at 11:30 AM, right after opening. There were only a couple of tables seated. Despite that, our empty soup and salad bowls sat on the table forever. The table is already small with the teppanyaki grill taking up most of the space, so leaving multiple empty bowls per person is just careless. The biggest issue was the server. Plates weren’t cleared, no check-ins, and even simple requests were ignored. We wanted an extra bowl for fried rice (which we paid extra for), and no one came by. I had to grab a tiny dish myself. I even tried asking another staff member — nothing. This wasn’t a busy rush; it was poor attentiveness. Food-wise, the steak was tough, chewy, and overly salty — I literally bit into a huge piece of silver skin. The shrimp and calamari were fine, but not $50-per-person fine. When you’re spending about $600 for a group, you expect at least competent service.

We ordered filet mignon and shrimp. They used to bring out a small fillet steak for each person that ordered cook and slice it and serve it. They brought a bunch of scraps from the end of the tenderloin that is grizzly fatty and chewy. When I complained about what they were cooking, they brought a manager, and he stated that this is what they are being sent currently. I asked so you are serving garbage to everybody and charging ridiculous prices? Nobody ate their steak or enjoyed it, and the manager did not have any other solution.
