Opinions de El Charrito Burlingame
My favorite place for the best tasting carne asada tacos, homemade green & red sauce. I absolutely love it and reminds me of the best tasting food growing up.
Delicious food at very good prices! I had the carnitas chimichanga, which was amazing. Also tried some tacos - al pastor was very very good, and the lengua was perfect. Inside the restaurant is very laid back - don't expect silverware, plastic utensils will suffice. Inexpensive beer rounds out the meal. Definitely coming back!
This place is a treasure! Small and not very assuming, but it has, by far, the best carnitas I've ever had. Add a little of the home made green sauce and you have yourself the best burrito on the peninsula. I used to work in Belmont almost 10 years ago and would come here at least once a week for a carnitas burrito. Yesterday I was passing by and my mind and body involuntarily pulled over and went inside. 10 years later this is still the best burrito around!
A bit of a hike in the wall but food is great, fast, and fresh. Parking is very hard though as they have only 3 or so spots and it's at a corner of a busy street. You may need to park a block away.
Hole in the wall that is always consistent. Consistently good. Parking could be a pain though as there’s only 4 or 5 spots.
Best chili verde burritos around! Also, that verde salsa is to die for. I can't disagree more with the "local guide" below... I've been going here for ~15 years and always had great service and food. A place can't not-have certain food? Go somewhere else but don't ding them for your expectations!
My husband and I eat vegan (no meat or cheese) and the guys at El Charrito fix us a delicious bean and rice burrito every time. Their red sauce has great heat and is very tasty.
Was there an hour before they closed. For business. This guys. Have a great attitude. Customer service prompt. And atmosphere. Will come back. Food. Was great.
Consistently good, open late (for San Carlos), and friendly staff. Is it the best taqueria in the area? No. Is it a place to get a solid burrito or plate of tacos for a cheap price, served with a smile? You bet.
Fun little place. Very casual. Good for takeout but they do have tables. Great carnitas burritos. Free chips and salsa!
Great food. I keep going back. The cooks and cashier always do a great job. I always call ahead for my order especially during peak hours. I recommend this place 💯 Gracias primo
been coming to this place for years and it’s one of my favorite burritos in the bay. get the carne asada or chorizo, and make sure to try the excellent salsas!
Great little restaurant rocking your classic Mexican favorites. Food comes out fast, cooked well and perfectly seasoned. It's not clean eating and every table has a full stock of napkins for you to work down. There's a sauce and chip bar on the side, next to the restroom. Seating is limited, so try to keep groups small. Loved their tripe tacos
THIS IS THE BEST PLACE IN THE BAY. THIS PLACE HAS THE BEST TACOS EVER GET S NUMBER 9 WITH CHICKEN TRUST. i love el charrito so much they deserve everything and more <3 they are so nice and friendly and i go here AT LEAST once a week. amazing!!!! i would give it a 6 stars if i could !!!
Highly recommend the prawn burrito. Very tasty, quick service, decent value. Take out worked great but plenty of space and good atmosphere to dine in
Delicious! Every is delicious, they even had delicious pineapple salsa. I think this could be the best Mexican food I’ve ever eaten. It’s definitely one of the best I’ve had. Extremely clean and friendly staff. I’m definitely coming back when over this way every chance I get.
Food is amazing and can't wait to go back! My wife has been last time she was in town I said it's a must and she did not disappoint! I had a super burrito with carnitas! She had the 2 taco plates asada and pollo!🔥🔥🔥
These guys make a great burrito for under 10 bucks. Service is mostly fast. Most cases I receive my food before signing the receipt. The only tough thing to work around would be the parking situation. So I'd recommend go bright and early in the morning.
Love this place...Chuy is the best! Been getting my Mexican food there for decades. Best burrito in town!
this is our go-taqueria, love the taco salad with lengua, chicken burritos, plus free chips and salsa, food is great , service friendly, call ahead phone orders, fast service, cooked to order, not pre made. A+ consistent hours 8 to 8 daily
My brother and I can't get enough of how delicious the burritos are here. Plus they offer reasonable prices for genorous portions. They're also extra friendly, it only contributes to us wanting to come back more often.
Our favorite place for fast Mexican food. Kid friendly and the food comes with a reasonable amount of lettuce and tomatoes so you don't feel like you're only eating carbs and protein. The meat is flavorful without being overly salty or dry.
Wonderful service got tacos horchata and a burrito they were awesome
Best breakfast burrito I've ever had. Get the egg and chorizo. Richly flavored and spiced. Wonderful red and green sauces.
In love with this place! Met the owners when they first established, they are family owned and been doing GREAT since and continue to do so. I've never had an issue with anything there always been above and beyond on their food service and cleanliness. Usually there's not much parking but that's a good sign, usually means places is busy and everything is absolutely FRESH, depends also on where u park because I definitely look forward to the small walks back to my car after eating their amazing food, normally I over do it but that's fine. Can't wait to eat here again tommorow.. Good Work! jesus senior and jesus jr and the rest of the family and crew!
great place friendly people complimentary chips and salsa and food was amazing
Not sure I can say anything that hasn't been said. This place is small, not very fancy, kind of a hole in the wall restaurant, and during a 3 day stay in the area, I had to eat there twice because the food is so good. Love both homemade salsa's, love the wet burritos and the enchiladas. Simple menu, but delicious. Very friendly service too.
Tasty. Highly recommended place for authentic Mexican food.
Best breakfast burrito in the bay area. Only have tried the chorizo 10/10 ... I do not recommend the super asada burrito. The super is not my style of burrito, it tastes tex-mex 🤢due to the shredded lettuce and guacamole combination 2/10. The guacamole needs more lime juice and salt...The rice, beans and meat were tasty 8/10. The chorizo that is supplied is spicy, and they add salsa de arbol 🌶 to the burrito. The regular asada burrito is magnificent 11/10
I came to get some breakfast here. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Restaurant inside was clean. We ordered burritos with chorizo. They were so gooood. My family was happy and satisfied. I am bringing friends in here. We are coming back to get something else from their menu…Enjoy…😎
Was driving thru San Carlos and found this gem of a Taqueria, I highly recommend checking this place out. The Tacos de lengua were delicious, my other coworkers had a breakfast burrito and regular grilled chicken burrito. They both said they were also very good. The place is small but very clean. Again if definitely recommend checking it out.
Quite literally the best mexican food I have ever had, and I eat A LOT of mexican food. I daydream about the green salsa. They need to bottle it and sell it in stores. Their carnitas is mind blowingly good.
Best taqueria in the peninsula by far. Cabeza and lengua can’t be beat .
Wow - what a hidden gem. such an authentic experience. easily the best tortilla in the bay, breakfast burrito was delicious, salsa was flavorful.
Their tacos hit a little different. It’s hard to explain but their flavor and salsa combination on their tacos resonate with me. Give them a shot, get at least 1 taco, customize it how you like, if you don’t like spice, ask for green salsa. Prices haven’t gone up over the years, great restaurant.
Parking could be better but the food was DELICIOUS!!!!!! Asada and Tripas tacos were so good, if we're ever back in town, we'll definitely come back 😊
Delicious breakfast burrito. Generous size and good price.
Got 2 tacos langua and 1 tacos chili verde. Both some of the best iv had, seasoned well cooked damn near as good as you can cook either. Will definetly come back, their quick too. My only gripe is the salsa verde isnt made the way I like it, but that's preference, it was still really good.
I have been eating at this restaurant for 20yrs+ and it never gets old and the food is always delicious so I would highly suggest you check this place out because to me it’s the best Mexican restaurant in all of the Bay Area bar none
Always good, always fresh, always fast, always affordable. For authentic Mexican food at a no frills price, go to El Charrito. I love this place, and I'm lucky enough to live within walking distance. The ambiance is very basic, but it is clean and the staff is very friendly. Most people get take out and they get you in and out quickly. I always go here for Mexican food. It's a real find in San Carlos.
Absolutely the best burrito in my opinion in the whole Bay Area. It can be a little spicy for some tastes, but for me it’s amazing. You can always ask for mild sauce and it will come perfect! The food is delicious, the service is fast and the staff very nice and polite. Definitely recommend it to anyone who appreciates good and authentic Mexican food!
My husband has been coming here for 16 years he is literally obsessed with their red salsa and burritos. I started coming here with him and I love their green salsa! I have ordered their quesadilla and it filled me up. I just had their breakfast burrito and saved half for the next day and it was just as delicious!!! We love the staff here!! Food is great. Service is awesome. Price is perfect.
Nice little quaint Mexican restaurant. A buddy and I went in for a bite. First time there. I ordered the wet burrito, it was tasty. The red sauce was not terribly spicy, and over powering. They have a self-serving chips table. Overall great food.
I'm from Boston and am by no means an expert in Mexican food, but this place has the best fish tacos I've ever eaten. How can I return home to the second best tacos? They are not a close second.
Super veggie burrito and horchata were both delicious. I called ahead and the order was ready for me by the time I arrived 10min later. Convenient, affordable and genuinely tasty!
Authentic Mexican food prepared to your request. I loved the food.
By far the best burrito and salsa verde I’ve ever had would 100 percent recommend
They always get my order right and fast. Great food and service.
Second time here and have been pleased both visits. Ordered the cabeza super burrito $13, lengua super burrito $13, regular asada taco $3.25, and regular Al pastor taco $3.25. Super burritos are a good size and have well balanced ingredients. FYI, they have lettuce in them. Meats were all good, flavorful, not too salty, and cooked just right. Asked for no added salt, less rice and sour cream, and they accommodated. They have a salsa bar, but it's mainly just sauces. No vegetables, pico de gallo, etc. Small restaurant with limited indoor seating, but they were not too busy at dinner time on a Fri night. Order at the counter and they will bring your food to your table. Self serve water. Small parking lot. Overall, great food and good portions at relatively cheap prices.
First time here. Food was absolutely delicious. Made fresh with a salsa bar and free chips. Quesobirria tacos extra crispy as requested were delicious and filled with meat. The Super burrito extra toasted was well portioned, freshly made and tasted wonderful. Last but not least the Asada plate had big portions of soft tender meat, rice/beans, lettuce, tomatoes, avocado and tortillas. Big portions and reasonable price. Restaurant itself is rather small and simple and it doesn’t have a big parking area. You can look for parking down the street, in my opinion I think it’s worth it.
I have passed this place many times on pre planned dinners, but this time we stopped. We are from out of the area and I have to say, this food was amazing and authentic. I had el pastor and asada tacos and was amazed. So happy we went back the next morning for breakfast burritos and I was not disappointed. A must visit if you are in the area
I ordered a breakfast burrito with steak, egg, rice and potatoes no beans and no sauce. It was fresh, hot, huge and delicious. Super filling. The green and red sauce aren't very spicy but yes very flavorful. It gave the burrito the Xtra flavor as in the cherry on top. Loved it will come back and try other stuff.
Carnitas was my favorite. Al pastor is good but unless you like very spicy then ask without the red spicy that is default for these tacos. The menudo which is only available on the weekends is a very big portion and a bit bland in my opinion and wouldn't order again. Been in business for decades and rightfully so. Storefront can be easily missed if you're not really looking for it. Small restroom for customers.
I've came to El Charrito a couple times now, and everything has been amazing! I had their wet burrito and torta, and both were delicious. They also have a good selection of breakfast as well. The employees are all very friendly and serve your meal in no time. I highly recommend checking out El Charrito!
We came here based on the recommendation of a friend. I really like the casual and low-key ambiance. Also love the salsa bar. I think the free tortilla chips are not the best I've ever had. But, they are free, so I can't complain! I had the chili relleno plate, and my friend had the wet burrito. Both were delicious. Prices are reasonable. Easy parking. I would come here again.
I always get the vegetarian burrito. It is a reasonable size at a very good price. They also have a salsa bar with red and green sauce and jalapeno peppers as well as loads of chips. Food/price ratio wise it gets a 5 star. The only reason I have it at 4 is that they initially tried to charge me $2 to make it a wet burrito whereas going from regular burrito's (with meat) to a wet burrito was only a $1 difference. I mentioned something and so the guy checked with a guy in the back and apparently it was ok (to pay the $1 instead of $2 for the wet upgrade). Sure, they are trying to get what they can get.. a little bit annoying though. It won't stop me from going back there though.
Very tasty, fresh food. Price is right on the spot as well. Have the carne asada tacos with everything. Don't be afraid of the red salsa the heat goes away but the flavor is definitely there.
It's a nice mom and pop restaurant. A lot of combo and entrée choices on the overhead menu. Most items under $10, as in $9.99. Portions aren't the largest I've seen in the Peninsula, but good enough for the price.
Just moved within walking distance and I think we're going to be regulars. Got super burritos, chorizo for one of us, no sour cream, prawns for the other, no sour cream & no cheese. Made right (well, switched bags so I got a bite of the wrong burrito, but minor), so delicious. Good chunk of chorizo, appropriately spicy, good combo of supporting ingredients, nothing too overwhelming, just a really good, quality, authentic burrito. Can't wait to try out the breakfast burritos.
Wow, probably the best lengua burrito I've ever had! The meat is tender and so flavorful. Interesting that they put lettuce in their burritos, but I didn't even pay attention to it. Their chicken and pork also look really good. Definitely going back and trying the other meats!
Nothing fancy here, just great, inexpensive Mexican food. Good for take-out or stopping by for a quick meal. Traditional menu of all the favorites. Parking can be a bit tight sometimes, but ok to block someone in if you're doing take-out; it's a small place so easy to find a driver to move a car if needed.
Low key taqueria serving the Mexican foods staples. I really enjoy their Al Pastor. Tiny little parking lot holds maybe 5 cars so it can be easier to park around the corner on Laurel St. and walk over. Good price and good food.
Good food. Service was generally good but took a long time for being the only customer in there.
Only been here around 3 or 4 times but have to recommend either Pollo Super Burrito or Al Pastor Super Burrito 🌯 fresh ingredients, avocado was sliced not guacamole 🥑 meats are always moist not dry. Try it, review it & you'll like it moderately priced which is always a positive.
Good food, carne asada is too salty
20 years ago the food was outstanding, however, not this time. I asked for a cow tongue burrito. It was all one big mess. Everything was all mixed. Originally, they layered everything: i.e. rice, beans, salsa, meat, sour cream, guacamole and folded it into a Super burrito. I could not taste anyone one item distinctly but overwhelmed by the guacamole and sour cream. And, I was charged for extra meat. I have to say they need to work on making burrito's better. The burrito was $16.20 Their can beer was $6.50
Chicken quesadillas were good but the chorizo for taco was burnt
The "carne asada" in my burrito was not roasted meat(literal translation). It was some of ground beef substitute. I would not visit again.
Really wanted to like this place, all the guys were really nice, the atmosphere felt right. Good salsa bar, red is the more spicy but not really spicy at all. The green is not spicy but it has a nice fresh tangy taste. Free chips. Ordered Super Nachos, Super Burritos, one "wet". All of them had AL Pastor meat. It was recommended by the cashier, unfortunately the meat was all dry and tuff. I think it was the leftover from the day before. Not sure if we ordered the wrong thing but I feel like we wasted a meal here.
Ordereda to-go quesadilla. When I got home the quesadilla I paid a ton of money for was more than half just the tortilla...not even with cheese. It was cut into the weirdest way and tasteless. I'm giving 3 starts to the service because the cashier allowed me to pay with cash app because the machine wasn't reading my card.
We had one carnitas burrito that was okay, but our two carne asada burritos were not good. The meat was gristle with lots of little hard bits and no flavor. All our burritos were very very bland. We I've had good burritos there in the past, but tonight our meal was a disappointment.
I was a fan of this place until I bit down into hard plastic in my burrito yesterday. Seemed like part of a plastic utensil had broken off into the burrito during preparation.
The food served here is old and spoiled we bought 2 burritos! Me and my husband both got food poisoning. I had severe stomach pain and puking the whole night. And my husband had the severe stomach infection as well! These people serve rubbish food!
Bad service. Did not add what I requested
The place has no parking... Is not dog friendly which is hit or miss on the opinion scale... But let's talk about Mexican food. California born and raised lived in SF, LA, SD, and let me tell you there's good Mexican food all over cali... This is UNFORTUNATLY NOT ONE OF THEM... I think the deli at vons safe way or ralphs could have pulled off a better burrito... Feels homemade in subburb type taste.... Big swing and a miss.
Stay away from this place. The food was good but I got ripped off. I'm aware there is a 3.99 fee for the debit card. The man at the counter said he was gonna be "cool" and charge me the price before tax. The price plus tax minus the debit fee is not supposed to be15 bucks for what was gonna be a $7.90 chili relleno. Plus tax that was supposed to be 10-11 dollars. I will be taking action. Do not go here if you want to be taken advantage of. You are better driving south to San Jose for good Mexican food.
Just got into town on vacation stopped by & ordered shrimp fajitas, cheese quesadilla & drank a beer & had some chips & salsa while my order was being cooked. When it was done I left to my motel to relax & eat. I drove all the way from Las Vegas 560miles to enjoy some me time. Get to my room open my food no quesadilla, no biggie it was cheap. Eat my fajitas watch a lil TV & go to bed. Wake up @ 5am so sick it's shooting out of both end. All day Wednesday i was so sick I dident get to do anything but try & keep water down. Vacation ruined!!!! So now it's Thursday still dont feel good cant eat but I am keeping water down at least. Have to drive back to Vegas feeling like crap stomach hurts head hurts from getting so sick. Probably won't eat shrimp for a very long time. I dont get sick only had pancakes for breakfast that day no problem there until I ate your shrimp fajitas. Needless to say I won't be eating @ ur restaurants ever again. Not looking forward to bouncing around in a car 560 miles back home. 🤮
Not from the area....got GrubHub for delivery to our Hotel. The food was not good at all. Cheese Encinitas Taco salad
