Came in for an after dinner snack and was not disappointed. Had a half dozen oysters at their awesome price of $1/each. They are even cheaper during 12-5 and 9-close. The size of the restaurant is the same as others in the area but they still have plenty of tables for parties of decent sizes. Staff was also very corteous and respectful despite ordering just oysters and water. Definitely plan to come back and explore the full food and drink menu.
We were here in 2017, owner stopped us an mentioned trying some Oysters, retuned 5 years later and got the same great service and food. This time we had a Lobster, Oysters, Clam Chowder, and Fish-N-Chips. Everything Simply Delicious! We’d eat here ever weekend if we didn’t live on the west coast.
Great place, lobster roll was perfect with well prepared fruits in the side.
Fresh tasty with gluten free offerings. Priced right. Overall a great experience.
Very quaint and it was a nice home cooked meal. The atmosphere was just like home with a little elegant spin. Everyone was friendly and helpful. All the food was excellent. Overall, a great dining experience.
It's a good spot for an upscale yet casual experience in Harvard Square. They have a great .50 cent oyster deal during the day.
Enjoyed this cute locals favorite spot for lunch this weekend, loved our lobster rolls!
Very friendly and attentive bar tender. We didn’t eat, but the food looked and smelled amazing. Made wonderful recommendations for food and was very talkative.
I enjoyed coming here solo as my husband was on the road for business. I ordered the mushroom crostini and a kale salad with grilled shrimp, both were delicious! I came early around 5:30 and sat outside to enjoy the ambience. The service was great! And I love that I'm having some leftovers for tomorrow's lunch!
It is conveniently located near Harvard Square, and we love to sit on the patio whenever we visit. There are heating lamps when the temperature dips. The lobster roll is very good, and the fries always come piping hot. Service is always friendly and efficient.
Beautiful setting. We sat outside in the plastic tent and lights. While we got blankets (yay!) The space could have still used a heater. Wait staff was extremely nice and polite and accomodating. We were able to pay separately. I ordered the shrimp cocktail. Shrimp was big and plump with a horseradish dip or something next to it. Yum. My friends got oysters, also, delicious! Glasses of water were promptly brought to the table as well as big thick napkins. Definitely recommend.
This place really feels like a hidden gem. In the winter/spring it's a bit unassuming from the outside, but so cozy and homey on the inside. The lobster roll was delicious and we ate it too fast to even get a picture. The bread pudding was also shockingly good and potentially some of the best I've ever had. If you're in Cambridge, 10/10 would recommend stopping in here.
Tucked in a corner at Harvard square. Food is truly amazing, our server was very nice and courteous. A little pricey but worthy. We ordered lobster role, fish and chips, lobster carbonara and Mac& cheese.
We went here as an early valenties day dinner and were really impressed. The drinks were a little expensive and more extravagant then were used to, but over all dinner for two was not outrageous The food and service was amazing. The seafood stew was one of the best dishes I have ever had. We really enjoyed the super cozy atmosphere. especially my girlfriend, who is always cold, loved all the fireplaces. 10 out of 10
Everything was awesome. The staff, the food and the drinks. Where else can you get a smoked Negroni? The seafood pasta was so good and the Yuza Ginger was one of the best cocktails I've ever had!
Fantastic little Italian-American bistro tucked away in a quiet alley, with great service and ambiance. Great spot for lunch and dinner meetings and get-togethers. They have a lunch menu with delicious sandwiches but their absolute best are the crab cakes and lobster carbonara. They also offer oysters! Make sure to book a table in advance.
Best part about this place is that they have outdoor seating and are extremely dog friendly! They brought our dog out a bowl of water without us asking! Our dog was even able to have an unseasoned chicken breast cooked for him. The food was delicious. I got the summer melon salad and was very pleased. The aragula and mint went amazingly with the fresh watermelon. My salmon was fresh tasting and cooked perfectly. My drink was mixed well and they definitely were kind with how much vodka they gave me for two shots .
We are happy we took an accidental turn into Winthrop Street and saw their sign for oyster happy hour outside! 50 Cent each! We went inside and received a warm welcome from the waiter who immediately assigned us a table for two. We ordered 30 oysters and the grilled octopus. The oysters were very decent size for that price! We’ve been to other Happy Hour places before, where you would only receive very small ones for $.50. The grilled octopus was really high-quality and tasted delicious. Great and friendly service overall. Would always go there again and also recommend.
Had a lobster roll with mayo which was really fantastic. The roll was soft and toasted and they had a seasoned mayo. Also the french fries were salty :) would recommend stopping in
Loved everything about this little place. We had just finished up visiting some Harvard museums and wanted a local bite. The staff is probably the most friendly of all the restaurants we visited on our trip. Food was delicious (lobster roll and crab cake sliders with salad and roasted asparagus to start). Might be uncomfortable for some since the place is cozy but we had a wonderful time. Oh and they had a real working fireplace, so neat.
We have tried the lobsters, the swordfish steak, oysters, mussels and clams, and all very happy with our choices. The restaurant is at a great location and there is also the possibility of outdoor seating.
Absolutely darling! If history is your thing, definitely stop by this place. The home turned restaurant is over 200 years old. The retaining wall is from the 1600's!! Haha the food was really good too. I'd recommend the salmon! The atmosphere is charming and relatively peaceful considering the area it's in. The waiters are super nice and they have some fantastic happy hour deals! If you want something super polished and fancy though, don't go here. It is a little old, but that's the fun of it!
Ran late for reservation with our infant due to being rookies at Boston area parking. We ended up being sat on the patio. We were glad this happened! It was warm, intimate, cozy blankets provided. Just what we needed after a long day of traveling. Quite relaxing. Great cocktails. Great $1 oysters and $2 shrimp. Lobster mains were incredible. HIGHLY recommend the lobster risotto. Definitely a small, intimate, hidden gem.
Fantastic little place tucked into Harvard Square. If you like seafood, then give this place a try. There are several small plates to start the dinner off as well as oysters on the half shell. If you want to try lobster, this place has several different dishes, each more tempting than the next. The crab rigatoni had a spicy (flavorful, not hot) tomato sauce and a smoky flavor. It is my go to dish here. We ended the evening with fresh squeezed key lime pie and a slice of chocolate mousse cake with a drizzle of raspberry sauce. We left very satisfied but not stuffed in a food coma. Well worth a visit.
The happy hour oysters were a steal, even though they were smaller, at twenty-five cents, it felt like a good value. The cocktails were good and the servers were very nice. We had the brussel sprouts which were delightful too. My friend said her caesar salad and lobster bisque were both spot on for non-seafood fare as well. We sat outside on the covered patio and even though it was cold, you can hardly notice it. It was nice to be able to split our bill very easily with no hassle at the table with the handheld tablets at the end of the meal and text message receipts too.
Went for a mid afternoon lunch. Excellent service and a good price point. The oysters were locally sourced and the beer was a local craft. Some food items have happy hour prices between lunch and 5pm
An amazing spot if you love seafood! Their dishes vary in style, while offering a great quality all the time. The staff is very friendly. They do incredible oyster specials, without cutting down on the freshness of the dish. I definitely would recommend!
Convenient seafood restaurant in Harvard square, very nice place to grab a quick lunch or dinner with your friend. Must order their octopus and lobster carbonara.
Our table ordered Chowder Fries for the starter: New England Poutine we joked and had to try it. It was tasty! New England Poutine is a new favorite starter For mains we had the seafood pasta and scallop gnocchi - we were impressed by everything, flavor was spectacular and the seafood and pastas were cooked perfectly. The staff was attentive even checking in to see if the room-for us the pink room-was too warm or cold. The whole space has fun decor with floral painted walls. I love that the restaurant is broken into smaller rooms to give a little more privacy vs a larger open restaurant. Felt like a lovely, intimate dinner party. Would absolutely recommend, the service was excellent as was the food. Exceeded expectations for sure.
Stumbled upon this joint while checking out the farmers market nearby. Fantastic environment, equally fantastic staff, and spectacularly prepared food that is fairly priced. The deck was perfect and the drinks were delicious. Child friendly too! Can’t wait to come back to try the rest of their menu.
Tucked away from the Main Street it was a nice find. Good ambience, amazing lobster rolls and friendly staff.
A nice place for decent food, although it will not sweep you off your feet, it still is very good.
Beautiful and historic place!! Food is very average but visit for this most unusual restaurant in Cambridge!
Went there for the oysters. The prices on them can't be great especially Durning happy hour at 6$ for 12. The waiter was very nice and the restaurant was cute. Definitely a good spot for lunch. Can't comment on anything more than that but can take a guess and say everything else is also good.
Can't beat the dozen oysters for $6! Really friendly. Very busy. Small place with outdoor patio seating. Good food.
Great little place to eat and drink. Went for the happy hr oysters and beer. Oysters were yummy, and the service was great. Nice place...
We went for the 2 for $1 oyster deal, and ended up getting a pasta as well. Everything was delicious, just a little bit on the pricey side, which is to be expected in Cambridge.
The staff was super friendly, I enjoyed the resteraunt it was very picturesque, I ordered a lobster roll which I would rate an 8/10
A favorite go-to that’s usually a pleasant experience, overall. Nice ambiance with a great origin story, and generally cordial staff. Tasty cocktails and whereas the plates are consistently good/very good and there’s a good menu selection, I’m always looking for more of a “wow” for the price. Says something that I always come back when in town though!
I had the octopus with a romesco sauce, while my daughter had a lobster role. We enjoyed both quite a bit. The brussel sprouts side was a bit underflavored and relied too much on the bacon to do all the seasoning. The atmosphere is nice and the price point is very reasonable, given the area and the food. Our service was friendly as well. The one drawback is that we were told we couldn't sit outside because too many people had reservations. However, the outdoor tables never filled up (or even came particularly close to it) at any point during our visit. It was a truly lovely day, so the failure to seat us properly was a disappointment.
The cocktails are nice here. The rooms are small and intimate. The lobster rolls and Brussels sprouts were very good. The fried calamari and fries were hard. The bathroom is gender neutral. The entrance has stairs.
Nice place with godd customer service. My raw oysters were great but the lobster carbonara pasta was like eating scrambled eggs with pasta. No taste whatsoever even when it had lots of bacon.
Delicious meal, nice and cute place and very nice waiters. Gave 4* instead of 5 because it was expensive for the amount served. The quality was excellent, anyways, so it made up for it!
Small cozy place with a wood burning fireplace. Came here solely for their oyster deal which features 2 for $1 oysters everyday from 12pm- 5pm & 9 pm - close. The first dozen oysters are 2 for $1 and then $1 each. No tricks. Just simple and straightforward. The staff here are also very friendly.
Everything about The Red House was good - but that's what I'd expect at this price point. I had a spinach salad, lobster carbonara, and tiramisu. My salad had a nice variety of flavors, and the beets were very fresh, but the dressing was unfortunately sparse. The lobster carbonara was tasty and rich, even without the quarter cup of parmesan that came on the side. The tiramisu looked and tasted fantastic. It was the highlight of my meal. Other than the food, the highlight was the menus. They're decorated with colorful abstract art, and while they didn't match the unassuming decor at all, they were beautiful. On web very metric, The Red House was solid but not outstanding. But at $55 for my meal with no drinks, I expected quality. And so I give this restaurant the same rating as every other that's exactly as good as I expect: three stars.
Could be better; look at my burnt piece of toast sitting on top of the shellfish appetizer with nearly zero sauce/olive oil at bottom…
Went here with my Fiancé and her parents. We found that the service was rather slow, the tables were wobbly and not secure either. As for the food it was pretty average and a little above normal pricing for the Harvard/Cambridge area. I got the shrimp, which were a little too chewy. The waiter also mixed up two of our dishes from what we ordered and finally got. Parking is very hard to come across. I suggest a blue bike when going to Harvard.
The Red House should be called the Red Hut...... both my boyfriend's and I food was flavorless, no grain of salt or pepper, and food arrived lukewarm. Both seafood dishes were overcooked and left much to desire. TASTELESS= #wethoughtwehadCOVID On a positive note the waiter was friendly and the atmosphere was chill.
This is my last time coming to this restaurant. I suggested this place for my gf's birthday dinner because she hadn't been before and I enjoyed it the 3x I've been here. The hostess was super nice and offered to take our pics infront of the restaurant. That was when the hospitality ended. Our server Amanda was awkward and absolutely ruined my bday gift. She handed us menus and stood beside the table for 2 min waiting for us to order. She was cold. Didn't bother with chit chats and did not clear our plates. Just kept walking away when we wanted to ask for something. When we asked for the oyster special after dinner service, she was not happy we were asking for more. When she brought the oysters, she brought the bill to usher us out. Too bad, i wanted more food and was denied. I'm absolutely embarrassed this was the place I took my best friend. Save yourself the discomfort and go elsewhere.
Awesome outdoor venue, not so awesome food. As an out of towner looking for some great New England Chowder, I ordered some very disappointing clam chowder that was watery and flavorless. And although the oysters were only 2 for $1 (best happy hour price I've ever seen), they were equally terrible and very poorly shucked - I kept having to spit out bites of shell. Would not recommend this place for good eats, but service was friendly and the bar menu looked good.
