Opinions de Mercatos Canajoharie
Our quintessential village diner (not to be confused with the suburban Greek variety). Not fancy; solid breakfasts served all day; large portions; inexpensive. Nothing more; nothing less. Our kids insist on one Village breakfast whenever they come home to visit. We know people who purposely exit the Thruway for The Village.
It's simple family fare with an easy atmosphere. I had a generous serve of coleslaw & fries with a grilled cheese & tomato sandwich. Yummy. We pTbarjed just out front. There's easy wheelchair access.
Great food and great service.
Adorable place...food was fabulous...my 3 friends and I were well pleased !! Very friendly and courteous staff...one of my friends and I travel up that way a few times a year.. it will be our new eating place !
Really delicious down home breakfast and great portion sized. I took my potatoes home because I was so full and they were even better reheated the next day. Cute area of town, too.
I’ve never truly had a bad experience with The Village Restaurant. The dine in service is great; very efficient and friendly. The delivery service is a big help when I’m working and order lunch. Definitely recommend!
Best breakfast south of the Erie Canal. Karlie, Dawn and the young man working the front were wonderful. Prices were reasonable. Definitely will return.
Staying close for baseball and have eaten here regularly Great food service and prices
My wife and I were traveling through and found this gem on Google when looking for a local spot nearby for breakfast. We will make it a point to stop by again!
Great food! Great service! Great prices! This place was awesome! The food was so delicious! We will definitely be return customers!
Went for breakfast with my daughter. Server was fast and polite. The food was perfect. We had a great time.
Friendly, clean, and got the job done for breakfast. Waitress was great, food was ok... Overall, id definitely come back. CASH OR VENMO ONLY!!!
I have never had a bad meal there. Excellent food and service. I highly recommend The Village Restaurant. ♥️
We absolutely love eating here the staff is always polite and cheerful. The food is always great my personal favorite the philly steak and cream cheese omelet love love love it lol.
Great diner home style food. We eat here as often as possible, my 5 year old loves going here and being treated like a big deal. What great people.
Great food, people, and atmosphere. Will definitely stop back here again whenever in the area
Great food, every time we have a big party we order pans of Mac and potato salad they're really good.
Exceptional place to go for breakfast or any meal of the day! Staff is quick, food is great! Couldnt ask for better service. 10/10 reccomend 😁
Friendly service. Definitely a local favorite, inexpensive and quick food times. Chicken and biscuits on Thursdays are a favorite special can't be beat.
Good place with prompt service. The food is good and tasty. I wish they were open later. Would go again
Great deal, great food, great prices
Once again all I can say is the dish that I ordered fresh fish and fries And a side of coleslaw Was fantastic. I have had the opportunity Of eating food from around the world and in England a lot of fish naturally being English fish-and-chips The fish I received today has got to be one of the best I have ever received in America I have been over here for 40 years and I love my fish well done well done I will definitely BE BACK 😋
Great little place. They let us in at closing time so we expected to be rushed, but that wasn't the case at all. The food was delicious, fresh, and the battered cod was light and crispy. This place is small town restaurant, but the food is a big step above what we are used to at such places. Definitely worth the very short hop off the Thruway.
Amazing diner food. I've been going here since I was a kid. I love the people and atmosphere it has. If you're looking for a good laugh or for someone to brighten up your day ask for Shelby! She's wonderful!
This place is one of my go-to places if I'm in Canajahare. Prices are reasonable, food is good, and portions are generous! Overall one of the best breakfast restaurants in 30 mile radius!
My dad and I come here almost every morning for breakfast. Not only for the amazing food, but for the good conversation, laughs, and people. VERY highly recommend!!
Love the food here. And breakfast all day is amazing!! Their waffles are the size of the big plate. I always get the strawberry waffles. Fresh strawberries, whip creme. The juice from the strawberries is enough to not need syrup with it.... The meatloaf is another favorite of mine. Love going here.
This is a nice restaurant in the cute town of Canajahorie! I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries. It was very good! The waitress was great!
Great food, fast and friendly service, and very affordable dining..owners really take pride in the quality of the food that they serve. Always looking for ways to make things better!!! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone..great place to eat.
Amazing service, amazing waiters (waitresses), amazing food, what else is there to say?
Super nice waitress and food. Will always go back for their great food and service. Love ❤ this place . I even recommended this diner to my friends. Who also thought this diner was great.
Decided to try here as it's actually open at 7 am and has good reviews, was not disappointed. Decent atmosphere, clean, good service, food came pretty quick, got a nice breakfast for under $10. Parking wasn't bad either despite it being in "downtown" Canajoharie. I will plan to return the next time I have to go out this way.
Great food! Love my Canjo we need more small businesses like these to help keep our town vital and be robust again.
Great breakfast as usual. One of these days I 'll make it for the fish fry! They were busy but I didn't have to wait. Best decaf coffee I've had out. Wait staff very pleasant. Couldn't eat entire breakfast but they gave me a to go container. I'll be back again.
It’s a lovely little place. Conveniently located just off the 5S and before crossing the bridge on church st to the McDonald’s- GO HERE!! The food was like being at home with Grandma and the servers and attendants were super polite and pleasant. We got the breakfast specials with a pancake/French toast, egg, meat, and toast option. I had the French toast and they were perfect. She also made my eggs exactly like I like them as if she knew me my whole life. My cousin was so happy with the pancakes and extras- said it hit the spot and was disappointed that it was to much to finish. We both like our hash-browns crispy so the soft center wasn’t desirable but the crispy top and bottom was amazing. Can’t express how grateful and happy we were with the place. Thank you ladies!!
Stopped in too have breakfast. What a unique place. Talked with hazel, and a couple of the waitresses, and a local regular. Love love the food. Great prices and service. Will be back. We live in Mass. Will be our go too place from now on.
Old school hometown restaurant with good homestyle food. Ridiculously low prices to boot. Both my friend and I had the meatloaf dinner. We were served large portions of delicious tasty meatloaf and homemade mashed potatoes. What's not to like? On a side note, the bathroom was very clean🙂 Would return and recommend!!
While heading to Saratoga , I always stop by The Village Restaurant. Shelia and Carly always take care of us. A pleasantly "sassy" conversation can be had for the short time it takes to get your food. It is a Must Stop type of place . And remember obscene tips are always appreciated.
Waitress was very friendly, told some history about the building. All day breakfast! Had an omlet with spinach cheese mushroom and tomatoes and it was one of the best I've had (and im an omlet lover for sure). They serve local chocolate milk of Dygert Farm (which was rated NYS 2023 best) and home made shreaded hashbrows cooked to perfection. Will definitely be coming back here more!
I’ve been coming to The Village Restaurant since I was a kid, and it rarely disappoints. The food quality is consistently good, with dishes that are served quickly. Now, I bring my own children here whenever I can to pass on the tradition — it’s become a ritual for us when visiting Canajoharie. The place is usually tightly packed, so it’s something to keep in mind if you’re bringing little ones with a lot of energy. Despite the crowd, the service is efficient and friendly. Highly recommend for a great meal every time.
Recently moved to town and have wanted to try out the places in town, so glad we did today. Breakfast was delicious! Piping hot, service was lovely, great atmosphere. Already wanting to go back tomorrow for more food!
Nice little hometown diner and old fashioned. Takes cash and Venmo. Loved my breakfast: got an omelette, hash browns, and toast for under $10. Try that at McDonald’s. Nice waitress and glad I tried it after work. I live two doors down and sorry I haven’t been sooner!
Loved stopping here on my bike trip along the Canal. Food was great (particularly the French Toast) and the vibes were relaxing. Highly recommend stopping here if you're looking for good portions and fair prices. Chocolate milk was exceptional :D
We are new to the area and we're looking for a good breakfast. This place was wonderful. The food and coffee were delicious, and the staff was wonderful. Cash only but has an ATM inside.
Discovered The Village Restaurant in Canajoharie on an I-90 stopover and what a delightful surprise! It’s easy to find, exceptionally clean, and exudes a welcoming vibe. The food is straightforward yet superbly executed. Their French-style folded omelettes and crispy, maple sausages were standout dishes. Golden-brown hash browns completed a perfect meal. The service was top-notch. This place is clearly popular with locals. Highly recommend for a satisfying, fuss-free dining experience!
Hands down my favorite downtown spot :) prices are super reasonable and the staff is always very friendly. Always willing to fix any mistakes too if you just communicate with them! We are all human and accidents happen! <3 Wait times are very reasonable when busy, and we are always greeted as soon as we walk in the door, even when we weren't regulars :) Amanda is the sweetest server and constantly checks in on you during your visit too! Overall, this place is a 10/10 :)
What a great breakfast! Delicious omelet, really good rye toast and amazing home fries. Staff are sweet and good looking.
Had brought a pre-arranged bus group to the restaurant for breakfast. Handled the group very well. A regular customer assisted with making coffee and serving drinks, just did it to help out. You are doing something right to have your regular customers step up to help out. Would definitely return.
Cute little cafe in Canajohari,NY. Good choice of specials and good portions too. Polite service and friendly and quick. Breakfast all day. Counter seating as well as booth and tables. Must visit. Picture window to look out at town.
The service was amazing!! We're from out of town and were welcomed as family. It's all family ran/ owned. Food is excellent, cheeky and clean atmosphere. We're definitely making a trip back!
Local restaurant doing a good business at breakfast. Best omelet I've had in a while - tasted homemade. Very friendly waiter. Nice local buzz.
While on a road trip coming back from Massachusetts we wanted to eat at a none chain restaurant. What a wonderful place we found. We walked in and were greeted by a young woman with a beautiful smile. She was like the perfect server. My wife and I ordered one of the breakfast specials as did our grandson. As we waited for breakfast one of the citizens stopped to talk to us and complimented my grandsons hair ( it happens all the time). We chatted and our food came out in a timely fashion and wow what a bargain. The plates were full of hot food and once we started eating it was delicious the young lady left to let us eat and after she was gone the server told us that the lady had paid for our breakfast. I can't recommend a restaurant any stronger than this one. If you are ever in this area get off the highway and take the short drive to this amazing dining experience you won't regret it.
Best breakfast around and I’ve tried most all of them. Ordered the Super Hungry Man. Big sausages, properly cooked hash browns, correct eggs. Just really good. Only thing is, we do actual maple syrup and would love to see these local places offer really syrup with an up charge. I’d pay for it. Really a good experience.
WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!! Entering the village not only are you greeted with friendly smiles but the humble environment reminds you of simpler times. The staff was nothing but smiles and welcoming, the food, for a diner was gormet, if you are in the area and looking for a quick bite to eat and meal thatll have you enjoying it bite for bite. The village restaurant is a must
A classic old fashioned diner! The staff is friendly and service was pretty quick even though they were busy. Food was standard diner quality. They have soft serve ice cream all year round which is a nice treat!
We found this whilst driving nearby on the interstate and searched for a restaurant. It was a great find, we parked on the street outside. Staff very friendly and the menu had lots of options. Well worth the small detour.
As a first time customer I was overly satisfied with this restaurant. I was in town visiting for the Baseball Hall of Fame induction ceremony and I was unfamiliar with the environment; I needed a place to eat other than McDonald's and this place was the closest to the hotel in which I was a guest in at the time.
Other than hashbrowns being a little under cooked, everything was good. It is a nice little restaurant with friendly, helpful staff.
Their food is amazing! I love their grilled cheese, and their burgers. They also have a family friendly atmosphere!
Clean, lovely people..judging on a trip here a few years back: very good lunch..recent trip, they were closing in 10 minutes so just got something quick.
Breakfast was so good. Reasonably priced, fresh and hot. Coffee was good. Server was prompt and professional. The only drawback NO CREDIT CARDS ACCEPTED. There is an ATM on premises or you can venmo your payment
Food was decent. We'll give it a second chance. Was told by two locals it's the best in town. They probably ordered something different than us.
A nice "family" diner in the center of town. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient. The food is what you would expect, promptly delivered and reasonably priced. Be prepared to pay cash but there is an ATM available.
It was just okay. Nothing special. Price was okay too. *Edited - I had the chicken parm with spaghetti. The chicken was super Salty and full of chewy fat grisly pieces. The plate was like soup from the watered logged noodles. My 14 yr old could have made a better dinner. That's why I said it was okay. It was still edible but just barely.
This isn't the place you go for fancy food. But it is the place you go for good food! People are nice. I appreciate that they made suggestions based on some questions I had. And I really liked their suggestions. My dad and I go here as often as we can. It's not as often as we would like because of my work schedule. And they are only open until the afternoon. But we really like it here.
Food is average. Wait time is a tad too long. When there is only 1 waitress, it's going to be forever to get your food. Waitresses are nice but again, takes too long to get your food. Not many options for good food and quick service in this area
Food is hit and miss... We have had really great food and also really terrible food. Even the same menu item can be really good or really bad at different times. We don't eat here very often at all because we have had several bad experiences.
I've been a regular for years. This is a diner that has served locals and visitors for years. The food is well prepared, well served, and modestly priced.
Open and ready to serve about 11:00 a.m. on a weekday. That's excellent. The French toast was good. The home fries tasted less like the potatoes and more like something else... Hmm? Sorry, not a fan of the home fries. Thanks for the reply. I'll edit out the fryer comment.
Very clean place and friendly staff. They could probably use one more person but they hustle. The food was a little bit ruff. Hash browns were cold, both omelettes were overcooked and bland with limited cheese. The sausage gravy was good but I don’t think it is made from scratch. Very reasonably prices though. This is cash only or Venmo with an ATM inside.
I don't know if people around there ever had good food, but this place was your most standard meal I've ever encountered. I would say it is diner grade, doesn't deserve 5 stars. On top of that, not the nicest service. There is a heavy set woman who was very rude when I went to pick up my food because I arrived 10mins later than expected (when I ordered my food, the woman on the phone told me it would be a little over an hour, I went to pick up my food in 1hr and 10min and received the dirtiest look from the employees. Maybe there was a lack of communication in what was said to me over the phone amongst the employees, but that should be sorted out among themselves).
Stopped in today because this place had decent reviews and it seemed like a quick good option for lunch. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap, my husband ordered a Philly cheese steak. We were informed they were out of sub rolls and out of grilled chicken. So I ordered popcorn chicken and my husband agreed to have his sandwich on a regular bun. We each ordered a side of coleslaw the waiter came back and said they were out of coleslaw! I was about to get up and leave because this place had no food! I wish I had. My popcorn chicken was disgusting. Very poor quality pressed chicken. I should’ve walked out before we even sat down because it stunk in this place. Will not be back. Good luck staying opened.
When ever traveling out of town I try to support local restaurants and diners. This hands down is the worst "restaurant" I've ate at. I ordered a bacon cheese burger that was barely more then a thin slice of meat with some precooked bacon out of the refrigerator. To top off this fine circle it was graced with a spoon full of cheese wiz. There was no ketchup or napkins in site and the fries were barely edible. The most fun I had was when they table near by tried to order a few different appetizers that were all out of stock. Save your self some money and get a two dollar double cheese burger at the fast food place up the street.
6 or 7 months ago I got served raw chicken and 3 days of food poisoning. WASHING HANDS?? Would love if you could do that as well, I also witnessed someone pet a dog and never washed their hands and made food after. Health Inspection is well over do on this place.
2 tables from us a guy was holding a small dog. After we ordered a lady from the kitchen brings food to the table where the dog was. After she sets the food on the table she starts rubbing and petting the dog. I watch her as she walks back to the kitchen. As soon as she gets to the kitchen she starts making a sandwich and NEVER WASHED her hand. Just makes you wonder what's other nasty stuff they do in that kitchen.
My best friend got food poisoning from consuming RAW CHICKEN that they served her in her wrap. She was sick Friday through Saturday. All because the cook was careless and didn’t properly cook her chicken breast. Not only did she have food poisoning but it could have led to salmonella!
I would not even give it one star. We walked in an sat at a table. There was a waitress at the table next to us taking an order. She got done an had menus in her hand an just walked away. We continued to sit there for another 5 to 10 minutes an no one came to our table!!! Will never come back.
The chicken wrap my friend received was completely raw. They didn’t even attempt to cook her food. She was sick all weekend because of these people. This restaurant has been reported to the health department by multiple people. According to other people in the area and based off reviews it is not the first time someone was served raw food. You all need to be inspected and get your act together. Very careless. You can make a bunch of people sick. Absolutely disgusting.
No service, waited and waited, went to the restroom, waited and waited, grabbed a couple menus off the counter, and even made eye contact with a staff member behind the counter. I believe they were still open on a Monday at 2:30 in the afternoon. Walked out of the restaurant, and there was a hotdog stand, the person said they were associated with the restaurant, the meat sauce was good, a little sweet)the actual hotdogs were of a terrible quality. On the bright side, cool town. Very quaint. If you have a culinary degree, maybe opportunity is there to raise a family😏and open a restaurant. I had to leave a star to post, I got response almost immediately from the restaurant, too bad they couldn’t wait on someone as fast as they responded.🙄
This was kinda a disappointment to be honest!!! Everything I attempted to order they has none of!!! I had to settle for breakfast for dinner which I wasn't happy about I ordered a large lemonade and got a small!! Waited we over 20 mins for our food to come out to use!! A gentle men brought out food single plates at a time!!! Not to mention no gloves on his hands while touching my food it's a pandemic I must say!!! I definitely want from the area but now I know I won't go there again. Didn't get my eggs I wanted!!! Wanted yolk they came out hard with no yolk but it's okay lesson learned
My husband and I just walked out of your restaurant after waiting over a 1/2 hour for someone to take our order. Mean while the orders of people who came in after us were taken. I understand busy and I can live with that. However to be blatantly ignored I can't stand. We have always loved this dinner but I promise we will not be back.
Very sad food. I asked for jalapeno peppers they were out, then I asked for Mazzarella sticks they two were out! Finally I asked for fried pickles and thank god they weren't out of those. They were ok, but kind of stuck together. As for the main course, I got the Cajun seasoned steak with veggies and mashed potatoes with gravy. I asked for a Medium rare steak it came out well done, and I got no vegetable just half a plate of mashed potatoes that seemed old and reheated and as for the seasoning it was bland. Didn't even want to even think about desert and they had my favorite rice pudding, but I was scared to what that might taste like. Just sad, and don't even have a credit card reader. As for your response, why are you referring to your staff as salesman? So not my job, not my problem?
I could leave zero stars I would coffee tasted burn and terrible. The coffee creamers had chunks of old milk in them. The food was awful. I asked for eggs over medium. They came completely cooked hard. The bacon was just all fat. The staff was ditzy and just odd I do not recommend going here at all. It was a waste of money and time
The teenage lady that was the waitress at this diner, picked on my daughter who was disabled and it was not a very good experience at this diner highly recommend going somewhere else and not here.
