Opinions de Ray's Canandaigua
I am not from Canandaigua, but whenever I go, I make time to stop for breakfast/lunch/brunch at Ray's. Everyone who works there is so friendly, and the food is great! Some of my favorites for breakfast are the fried muffins (have to try!), scones, and pumpkin pancakes. I often order soup there, and I am never disappointed! They have several soups to choose from. The main menu has a big selection of favorite foods, and there are many healthy choices for those looking for nutritionally sound entrees. The coffee there is also superb. I always get the Jamaican Me Crazy...so tasty. My choice for today was Stuffed pepper soup. I added Frank's Hot sauce, available with the condiments at the table, and it was delicious.
Wonderful and friendly restaurant! We rented the banquet room for a family event and highly recommend it. The staff was accommodating and the no fuss rental process was refreshing. Delicious food. Easy one level access for guests with limited mobility was a plus. If you’re thinking of hosting a ~20-30 person event, you should call Ray’s!
First time visitor. Great place. Price, service, food. Yep, we'll definitely have to visit again. Maybe lunch next time. Hadn't been, tho heard good things. Just never made it there. Decided this am to try out. Glad we did. Food was great. Maybe lunch next visit.
My husband and I stopped in for breakfast and were really happy we did. At first I felt a little out of place as this is the type of restaurant that locals eat at; however, our waitress quickly put me at ease. She was a delight, and I'm irritated I don't remember her name. Coffee was hot, fresh, and plentiful. Food was very tasty and really filling. My husband ordered the Trucker, which was huge and excellent. Perfect start to our day.
Our first visit, and we were quite pleased. Our waitress was attentive and very friendly. Not sure if it is in a nicely restored building, or a new building designed to look old. Either way, it very tastefully decorated inside. Pretty large menu with great names for their dishes. Everything we ordered was very good.
Decided to try a new place a coworker had a gift card and said I could order what I wanted. I got a order of buttermilk pancakes with a side of sausage links. The pancakes were so good fluffy and a great size. The sausage links were different than what I have ever had they were delicious and I definitely plan on eating from Ray's again.
Excellent. Best Omelet I have had in awhile. Cooked all the way through without being dry. Pancakes where nice and fluffy not sweet but good. They had homemade jelly which I really liked. Not overly sweet like most homemade jams. Hot sauce is made in Naples. Elke was so friendly and helpful. We have had her more than once. I included pictures of the menu. I consider their food to be upscale from most diners at a reasonable price. Will definitely dine here again. Definitely a Gem in Canandaigua.
Friendly staff and delicious food. We were there for lunch on a Sunday however other people were ordering breakfast of French toast, etc and that also looked delicious. I had the French dip and it was so good. My son had a plain burger and it was gone by the time I could get my phone out to capture a pic. Husband had the turkey club who said that was also good. Smell of Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters blends upon walk in was heavenly. Like they do specialty coffees here as well. Everyone should visit for a great breakfast and lunch.
Our family visited Ray's for breakfast while camping in the area. All of us were impressed with the menu and specials, which were creative and homemade. Our food was hot, fresh and delicious. All of us (which is rare) agreed that we would certainly eat at Ray's in the future. Excellent experience, highly recommend.
First time customers today to Rays and we confidently can say, we will be back soon! We loved the Finger Lakes coffee, ambience of the restaurant and our server! I enjoyed the “grilled cheese” breakfast sandwich on Sourdough, and my husband loved the Trucker Sandwich, two meals in one! The chocolate chip pancakes were delicious too! Thank you again!
I have driven by this place hundreds of times and never thought to stop. I finally took my son here for breakfast on a Saturday. So glad I stopped passing it by. It is the best place in Canandaigua I have had breakfast at that's for sure. Inexpensive but feels and tastes the exact opposite. I ordered toast and when it came out there was a small crock of homemade strawberry jam with it. No plastic Smuckers peel off jelly here. I was very impressed and will definitely be back.
Went on Halloween Day! Plenty of space to sit. We both got the garbage plate and they do have two different kinds of coffee, regular and Jamaican me crazy which I prefer. They have decaf, tea, soda etc. The food was good we finished our plates. We took home two huge cinnamon rolls. They were the size of a man's hand!!! Just the right amount of sweetness. Our bill arrived in either cash or credit card total. If you the have time to check it do you'll be full and satisfied!
I got the patty melt with onion rings, my boyfriend got the rueben with fries and chicken noodle soup and we tried the artichoke salad. The patty melt was good but lacked seasoning which made it fall a bit flat, the onion rings were crispy if a bit sparse for a $4 up charge. The artichoke salad was inedible and tasted of tin from a can, just cold mush. The chicken noodle soup genuinely seemed canned. The fries didn't have salt on them which is incredibly odd to me. The waitress was busy initially but then things died down very quickly and we had to find her to be able to actually pay our bill after waiting a long time(she was socializing at the bar with fellow coworkers). It was an okay experience, maybe we popped in on an off moment but I don't feel any need to try them again. Cute atmosphere.
It's decent. My first experience set my expectations, and this last visit fell short. I knew immediately something was off. The presentation was Different, the quantity was all over the place. The bar was set high my first breakfast here. I sure would like to know where the chef/cook went? It's stilll a nice place for a quick bite. (The picture is from the first time)
Update= good atmosphere. Food very average. Has gone downhill in my opinion. Ordered home fries as they were recommended over the hash browns by the waitress. Over half the order were not cooked through. Disappointed in visit. Excellent food and very good service!. Another great meal! Decided to get lunch for the first time. French dip with onion rings was amazing. Ginger was our waitress and was very nice and helpful. Gray's is always busy and I can see why.
The food was good, believe me but what wasn't good was the long hair that we pulled out of the food. Good service though!
Edit: It’s sad to see how the mighty have fallen. The food quality has dropped significantly. It doesn’t matter how good the quality of the ingredients are, if the food is served raw and sent back 3 times to be recooked. I finally changed my order and got some edible but still disappointing pancakes. Truly a shame. Old Review: Classic Diner food with true quality ingredients. They have the most Delicious Giant cinnamon rolls freshly baked with candied walnuts! Each dish has a home comfort feel with chef level flavor. The welcoming vibe and great service elevates this local eatery. My husband’s Eggs Benedict was perfectly poached with tasty hollandaise.
It's hard to overlook the level of incompetency displayed by the entire staff at this location. The host that seated us was wearing a red hoodie, gym shorts, and dirty running shoes with no socks. Sat their for almost half an hour with no sign of a server coming anywhere near our table. Finally had to grab a server from another table to go fetch the server assigned our table. Still not sure who that was as one finally took our order, another one brought our food, nobody checked on us for needs or refills, and yet another server brought our check. Half my food wasn't edible as my over easy eggs were really really easy. Half the egg whites were still raw and slimy. Definitely won't be returning or recommending to friends
Showed up at 12 to wait 30 minutes while they waited till they had 8 tables open to start seating the crowd of people you kept at the door. Just to find out your not serving lunch on Sundays along with the 4% card charge you should have displayed on your store page, so we waited for nothing. Roy's was better.
