Opinions de Twisted Rail Brewing Company Canandaigua
This place is in a super cute location directly on the lake. We did have an issue with our drinks, but the staff was super friendly and switched it out for us! Would definitely recommend
What a great place! The atmosphere and service was awesome. The food was yummy! I don't drink beer, but I felt like if i did, I'd be in Sheer Beer Heaven from the volume and variety! The view of Canandaigua Lake from the outside deck is splendid!
Great beer, great atmosphere, fast and friendly service. We ordered several items from the menu and everyone was happy with their food. Highly recommend!
Two weekends in a row - great music, great crowd, amazing location, and terrific beer! The bartenders are awesome too. We've never been disappointed at Twisted Rail!
There are a lot of options in the area, but Twisted Rail is my go-to East-side brewery. The Vokzal russian imperial and 50 shades of red ale are just 2 examples of solid beers i always grab during my visits. The 50/50 mixes arent offered anywhere else around here. The food is good too, and a nice addition in a market where not everywhere offers it. Plus, you cant beat that lake view!
Stopped by for a flight on Sunday. Griffin was a hoot and very helpful. We enjoyed the beer and would definitely recommend stopping in.
Always a good experience at TR
Had a great dinner here with the wife and kid, not specifically kid friendly we had to bring our own high chair, but had a fantastic meal for a very good price and great food to boot. Friendly staff. A local gem.
Big Hook sandwich was phenomenal!!! Really enjoyed the tiki bar with live entertainment on a Thursday evening. Victoria the bartender was a pleasure!
Victoria is an amazing bartender! She is friendly, personable, attentive and a great conversationalist! Will most def be back to see her, sip a cold one and get a pizza!
The beers and ciders we tried, (and brought a growler back to Connecticut ) were very good. Food was above average "bar food", generous portions and very fair pricing, staff we dealt with was friendly, and the atmosphere was perfect. This is NOT a snobby over priced brewery. We will return! We were at the Geneva (Finger Lakes N.Y.) location.
Place is great. 20-21 IPA is amazing. Lake2lake is an easy drinking beer. I recommend both. Frannie behind the bar couldn't be more friendly and accommodating. She makes the place what it is. Cheers to you guys
Stopped in for lunch and a beer. The porter mg wife had was said to be “real good”. We split a beef on weck and it was wonderful. Service was great as was the recommendation on a beer to take home!
Huge selection of beers, and wine and spirits for those that want other options. Thoroughly enjoy sitting outside in the summer looking at the lake and drinking a beer. However, was just there recently for a party in the winter in the upstairs room and had an amazing time. The bartenders rocked, and we had a blast with them. And the space upstairs was a lot of fun.
Good food, good beer, friendly service in a pleasant setting. What else do you want?
We celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday here and it was wonderful. The party room is cozy and quaint and the staff was extremely attentive and accommodating. Food was very good and craft brews were unique and delicious. I would highly recommend it for any event and can't wait to go back in the summer to sit on their deck overlooking beautiful Canandaigua Lake!
Great beer and great atmosphere. The bartenders were helpful and informative. Many local breweries care less about the customer and more about "policy" (naked dove*). Impressed with their knowledge, selection and overall experience. We will definently visit again.
From a staff that makes you feel like you've known them for years, to the cutest little doggo friend we made. The place has a GREAT view. The drinks are so vast, It was actually hard to choose 4 for our flights. My husband had the Muddy River as well, that drink, he said NEVER take it off the menu. lol and yes he stole your recipe, I apologize. Such a fun experience. Great job yall.
Best view in the area! We drive 4.5 hours to come up here & go to various breweries & wineries, & this is one we hit up every time! I don’t drink beer but I come with the hubby just for the view lol
I did not get the opportunity to visit here, but wanted to leave an note of appreciation for the wonderful and kind-hearted staff. My family, along with our dog, vacationed in the area during the summer and my dog's ID tags fell off of his collar. A kind stranger found them and left them at the brewery. The staff contacted me and were gracious to send the tags back to me in the mail (I live almost 4 hours away), which was beyond appreciated. The next time I am back in the area, I definitely plan to visit here and will be spreading the word about the wonderful business and team behind it. From one dog lover to another, thank you TRBC!
Have some severe allergies and the chef and server were very accommodating and showed real care. Above and beyond service. Food was good too!
Awesome atmosphere, friendly staff, and great views even on a cloudy day.
One of the better breweries in the Canandaigua area. My partner and I have been here a few times, and visited this past week on our annual trip to the lake. We were really upset about YLBC selling their brand, so it was really nice to see some of the staff from YLBC working at Twisted Rail! The location of this brewery is hard to beat, and their drink offerings are worth the visit. Food service can be a bit slow on busy days, and the inside seating can get cramped if there’s a crowd. The highlight is the featured cocktails - get yourself a Muddy Water or Muddy River. Top notch! Come here on a nice, breezy summer day and sit outside with one of those - you won’t regret it.
We stopped in at Twisted Rail, Canandaigua this past weekend… Small pub-like building. We advise going in at opening time or just after as it does get busy… All orders taken at the bar… England-style! Megan, our bartender on the day, was lovely. Gave me a couple of samples from the half dozen taps… I chose a pint of the Award winning ale… Just ask nicely and they will be more than happy to assist getting you paired with one of their brews that will fit you! We ordered a chicken wrap to share and you go get that yourself when the buzzer goes off… Get another pint while you’re at it!! Love the outdoor seating overlooking the lake and the very easy ambiance… If you want a no-nonsense, friendly pub with with good beer selection… This is your place!
We always have a Great time at the Twisted Rail! I've been there 6-7 times. The hosts and bartenders are friendly and helpful. The beer and cider selection is awesome, lots of variety for all tastes. The food, atmosphere and music is excellent too. You can't beat the location on the lake. Headed to the Geneva location today and I can't wait to check out the Honeoye Lake and Macedon locations as well.
We are from out of town and wanted to try a brewery in the area. Stephanie was absolutely amazing. Her hospitality was 10/10 and she made us feel like family. Highly recommend this brewery. It’s family friendly and great selection of beer, wine, drinks, and food! We will return before going home for sure!
Fantastic location. I went with 3 friends for drinks in the early evening/sunset time on a summer Monday and the selection of beers and beer cocktails were impressive. I had the shandy which was great for a nice summer evening. The pretzels were also unexpectedly good with an above average beer cheese and mustard. I am going to find many more excuses to find my way up in this area soon!
I have nothing bad to say! I ordered wings, an IPA and the Russian stout. The wings were cooked to perfection. Not too crispy, not too chewy. They sauced those babies up with extra in the bottom. If you don’t like sauce, make sure you tell them to go easy. If you do like a lot of sauce like me, you’ll be in heaven. Beer was good. Not the most amazing I have ever had, but very good. Russian imperial 5 star for sure. Will definitely return for a simple and well done evening meal.
Really like the beer here! Very nice selection. They have a few Ipa's which isn't my thing, but what I really love is the wide variety of different types of beer. They let us try a bunch of samples and everything was very drinkable and flavorful. Had a hard time deciding. Plus, it was a generous pour and more affordable than most brewpubs. The bartender was very nice also.
Great brewpub on the lake. Nice selection of their beers on tap, and the bartender offered to let us try a sip before committing. Food was unexpectedly great. $3 taco's on Taco Tuesdays is a great deal.
First-time here and Absolutely love it. The small quiet setting was perfect for lunch and a few drinks. The bartender was doing it all and killed it. Between drinks and making food, she was more than helpful. Will definitely be returning. I ordered the Cubano, which was so good I had to save the other half so I could eat it again. The Fiance got the Big Hook and was more than impressed.
First Time at Twisted Rail...very friendly staff. Moved here from New Jersey about 5 years ago and had no idea they had a barbecue pit and it's freaking good! The pulled pork was awesome salt potatoes macaroni salad no complaints whatsoever food was top quality.... Susie came by just to check on us to see how things were going... She saw we were struggling with selfies and offered to take some photos... Although she was not an owner of the joint she walked around checking up on things like she was... Great experience. I'm more of a wine guy but my "Lake to Lake" summer selection was refreshing and was one of their lightest beers.... Nice outdoor seating and views of the lake. Would definitely go back for the barbecue and the beer!!! Nice job!
Beautiful afternoon near the lake. Superb bbq, as judged by visiting Texans, both beef brisket and pulled pork. flight had Mexican lager, doppelbock, Irish red ale, and scotch ale. All were smooth and very drinkable, and drank an additional pint of both the Mexican lager and 50 Shades of Red ale. Highly recommend! If I weren’t passing through, I might live here.. .
First time at this brew pub. It's right near the lake and adjacent to where the Canandaigua Lady tour boat sails from. Large selection of their own brews. Also, some featured cocktails. I had a flight and we both had the beef on weck, which was outstanding. This is actually one of 4 locations. Lots of outdoor seating (it was raining during our fall visit). Two floors of indoor seating. We were looking for something to do on a rainy day, and the 20 mile drive was worth it.
Great location, easy to get to. Right on the water with huge decks. Large selection of tasty beers for everyone's style. From easy to drink IPAs to spicy pumpkin lagers, each beer we tried was enjoyed by everyone in our party. Bernard in the kitchen makes great food and Suzie behind the bar was friendly and knowledgeable about the taps. Dog friendly and have crowlers/growlers to go.
Loved this place! Dog and kid friendly. Really friendly staff and service. Great space with lots of options: outside on deck or by the creek, inside there’s also an upstairs. We had a lovely stroll in the park and then came here for some refreshment on the deck with two dogs and two kids. It started to rain and they let us all inside! We had the beef on weck, pizza, soft pretzels, and beef sandwich from the regular kitchen, and pulled pork, brisket, corn and coleslaw from the BBQ out back. All of it was so good, and the pulled pork and pizza was especially popular with the kids. We tried all sorts of beers, as they have beer flights, didn’t have one we didn’t like. But we went for round two of the NEIPA and the smoothie gose. They had some NA beer cans in the fridge for those of us who do not imbibe. If you’re in the area I definitely recommend this place enthusiastically.
We enjoy pretty much everything about this place. It's got a fantastic location and the building is great with lots of room and great views. The beer is awesome a great selection all made in house, it's great to see a brewing company stick to something different (ales and porters) vs IPAs. Everything we tried we enjoyed and for those of you who don't enjoy beer the offer cocktails wine and cider. The experience is rounded off with a nice short food menu all and all a great stop there's a reason they keep growing.
Jen (the bartender) was nice. More importantly, the beer is good! The Wildflower Honey has a great flavor, the Scotch Ale is good, the Pullman Porter wasn't quite my bag ("baby"), but the VoKzal Russian Stout (choclate & espresso) was awesome! My favorite of the four! They also have some food available for purchase that was fantastic! We got a couple of the wraps! RIGHT ON THE WATER! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
The server and beer rate 5 stars. The selection was very nice, the staff suggestions were spot on. I found my new favorite, Vokzal Russian Imperial Stout....who needs lunch? I'm sure their meals are great but my aim was to explore the local brews and I was not disappointed. It was rainy so we couldn't sit outside. Next time, we'll stick around to soak up the atmosphere :)
Great location because its on the lake. Beers are solid, they will not blow you away but they are above average beers. The food was good food as well. Was served quickly as well.
Muddy River is a Delicious drink. Husband likes all sorts of IPA's. Pizza was Good. Disappointed that there were no fries to go with sandwich options only chips.
The beers I tried were very good. Bartender was very helpful for picking out various beers for flight. Only reason to not give 5 stars was limited parking. Perhaps on a weekday, this would not be a problem.
Nice, laid back place to try several tasty beers, appetizers and/or food. Plenty of outdoor seating which was spread out on multi tier decks. I tried a pint of their Fireside Ale which had a nice spice to it. The people that took our orders were very nice and helpful.
Stopped in here a couple weeks ago Tuesday (haven't had a chance to enter a review until now); place wasn't exceptionally busy given it was a weekday; menu was pretty straightforward pub food (beef on weck, flatbread pizza, etc.). After a brief wait while the barmaid took care of some customers we ordered 2 flatbread pizzas and 1 beef on weck, along with one of their in-house lagers. We were given a buzzer to let us know when our food order was ready for us to pickup, so we took our drinks out onto the deck to wait. There is a very nice view of the lake from the decks, however I noticed that the deck needed some attention as there were more than a few sections that should probably be replaced (the railing top next to our table was rotted and coming apart). Our food was actually pretty good: the flatbread pizzas were well cooked and tasty, and the beef on weck, while not the best I ever had, was still pretty darn good with a real kummelweck roll and well seasoned thinly sliced beef. And the accompanying homemade chips were very good and not greasy at all. Certainly worth the prices. The lager was very nice especially on a hot day. I'm hoping with continued support and success from customers, that they will be able to give the deck a makeover. But the food and at least the lager are worth a try.
Great place, friendly staff. However, you need more help at the bar, especially during the summer. I've left early several times after one beer because the one bartender was completely overwhelmed. i watched a group of about 6 people walk in and walk right out. You lost a TON of business that day due to understaffing. (Late July)..
Beer was great! Plenty of variety and unique flavors. Atmosphere was wonderful. View of the lake a beautiful sunny day. Only issue was the blah mac & cheese and grilled cheese sandwich. Both were so low level, I felt like I was in an elementary school lunchroom. Food upgrade needed
Excellent brews. We had a nice selection during lunch. They had a sour mango gose that was just phenomenal, great after a thirsty boat ride. Their pizzas were good but we had some order mishaps. They made it right but that was the only hiccup. I would recommend stopping in after some time on the lake. It's an easy hop over from the nearby dock.
Good place for beer but lousy for food. Very limited menu. Sourdough bread was not the real thing (probably Al Cohen's which uses yeast) so I could not eat it. The turkey breast was pressed lunch meat. The beer and view are good but go someplace else for food.
Drinks were good, bartender was nice, though we ordered food when we got there (pretzels and a beef on weck sandwich), got the buzzer thing, and an hour and a half later it wasn’t ready yet. When we went in to find out what the ETA was, the bartender just told us that it should have been out already. It obviously was not, and people who definitely ordered after us got theirs. Being on sort of a time crunch we cancelled the order instead of waiting longer. The bartender cleared one of our tabs for the inconvenience so that was nice, but the food would have been nicer. Looks like we aren’t the only ones who had this issue, so hopefully they can take this critique and improve services.
Great location, waterfront and can’t be beat on nice sunny day. Beer was also good, but the food brought this review down. Do not go here to eat. They serve Kraft mac n cheese the flatbread pizza was tasteless. Food was embarrassing.
This place is solidly mediocre. The service was great, the people pleasant, the atmosphere inviting. The beer and the food is simply meh. It is a brewery. They do serve food. Seating is a little competitive, and if you haven't had better, you probably might be very satisfied. But if you have some experience with good beer and good pub food, the options offered here are not outstanding. Everything is drinkable and edible, no complaints whatsoever if it was half the price. However, they do charge the same as a quality brewery, and I suppose that's what made this so underwhelming. (My companion actually suggested leaving for something better after sampling the flights; I insisted on getting the food we paid for.)
Our family visited here for a bite to eat and a flight to share. Our bartender, Cliff was fantastic, and the highlight of our visit. The beer was ok, but was overshadowed by an hour and a half wait for food. Yes, that is an actual time, not exaggerated. We were so hungry that the beer only served as a holdover for the food. When it finally arrived, the food was good, but not an hour and a half good. Unfortunately, the beauty of the views and possibly tasty beer was not enough to overcome the food service.
Walked in while only 2 other people were there and told the lady that we had a group of 20. She acted extremely annoyed (my thoughts would be $$!). Food came out pretty fast and was good. Beer was good. The atmosphere was lacking even though it’s right on the water. Also, need to work on securing their umbrellas. One flew out and hit someone in our group leaving a bruise on their shoulder.
Honestly, the beer was good but the manager was extremely rude with his manners. Takes a lot of pride in his "80 dollar white claw umbrellas" attached to the outdoor tables and got ridiculed for putting it up on a 85 degeee day . Didnt really feel welcome like I did at the Geneva location. Major let down.
Not a fan of this brewery. The 2 bartenders seemed overwhelmed and refused to do flights of beer at the time we visited. Beer selection was meh. Dog friendly on deck but limited shade outdoors. Nice view of the lake.
We had a very odd interaction with the bartender here. She seemed very overwhelmed by serving two small groups of people, and instead of taking care of one group at a time, she bounced between the two causing herself to become frazzled. She was not able to knowledgeabley answer simple questions about any of the drinks here, and looked at us as if we had five heads. She was very rude, and also poured a very terrible and weak mixed drink for my sister. Disappointing.
Drink selection and location, amazing! I am a local who has recommended this bar many many times to those from out of town. All the bartenders are always super welcoming, except for one, who seems to think he owns the bar and treats patrons accordingly. Hopefully, they dont continue to allow him to drive people away, at his own PERSONAL discretion and accord. I will no longer recommend this place, due to the constant mistreatment, based on personal opinions and preferences of who he allows in the establishment.
This was my first time at Twisted Rail Brewing Company. It has an amazing location with great view right on the water. Good beer, my favorite one was 50 shades of red! Then the service aspect of my visit was awful. I understand servers have bad days. She didn't greet us for good 15 minutes. We ordered flights and waters to start. We received our flights and the server put down and didn't bother to tell us what beers were which and walked away. Then never brings our waters. We ask for a few napkins, never received those either. She doesn't return for a good 15 minutes then takes our food order. I walked inside to find the server stand to find napkins myself. While I was walking in she said " Oh that's your water on that table want to grab it take it out?" I wouldn't have minded grabbing it earlier in my visit. It was at the end after we asked a number of times for the water. Good beer, great location but disappointing service.
We are giving a low rating Not based on the beer. It has to do with the management. There was only one staff person manning the bar and taking the food orders. It was a very busy day and as a result she was rude and impatient. Beer was ok but pricy.
Place was busy, lunchtime on Friday on the lake...yet only ONE person working. We weren't in a hurry so at first I was ok with the wait. Until the woman came down to the end of the bar and ver pleasantly said, I'll be right with you folks, these others were her before you. It was a group of 6 or 8 that WERE NOT there first because we would have had to walk through them to get to the bar. So apparently if you don't arrive in a group you get moved down to last place....we left and went to another brewery and doubt we will go back to twisted rail. There's lots of other breweries in Canandaigua
Excited to visit due to its scenic location on the lake. Horribly disappointed by the beer selection, food options and especially the service. Bartender rolled her eyes when we order a flight. Long lines and wait time. Our party of six left almost immediately.
What a disappointment. We waited at the counter for quite a while before getting service. There was a line of folks waiting and no apology for the wait. We sat outside at a broken down table with an umbrella that didn’t work. We shared a flight and were not impressed by the beer. Would not recommend.
Sat with my boyfriend for 20 minutes waiting for service. No one even came over to ask if we wanted a menu or a drink. Even after helping ourselves to a menu the waiter sat on his phone and did not even acknowledge us. After waiting another 20 minutes we finally walked out. Also they’re were only 3 people at the bar so it’s not like they were busy. Very very poor service. We will not be back again
Took a friend here for lunch for his birthday. Service was good, but the cook messed up on 2 of our 4 lunch orders. The meals were sent back to redo, and when they were brought back, 1 was ok, and the other one was still wrong. I had ordered a "Big Hook" which was supposed to come with bacon and I requested the pesro mayo be on the side. 1st try - no bacon on the sandwich and mayo on both sides. 2nd try, they just threw a couple of pieces of bacon on the original sandwich and brought it back - didn't even bother to get new bread without the mayo on it. The waitress/bartender was really nice and gave us a couple gift certificates and didn't make us pay for my sandwich. But we won't be going back there.
Waited over an hour and a half for pretzels and spinach artichoke dip. The menu says thr pretzels come with beer cheese but it came with regular nacho cheese. The spinach artichoke dip was the worst ive ever had. I would not recommen eating here
Went this week with my mom and brother. Ordered a beer for my brother and I and my mom ordered a mixed drink. She specifically asked bartender not to make it strong. She took one sip and it was wayy too strong for her so she decided to speak up. She NEVER complains but it just wasnt drinkable. She went inside and the bartender (with no other customers around) said "oh im sorry would you like a glass of water?" No offer to make it again less strong, or replace it with something's else. Horrible customer service. We had paid $7 for a water at this point. Then our food took forever go come so while we waited we were just getting more annoyed . I decided to go ask the bartenders if he would replace it and now (in front of other customers) he LIED and said "oh sure i offered her to switch it out and she said no". Im sorry but I really don't appreciate lying. Will not be back.
I visited this place and I was really disappointed. We waited for a good hour for not a lot of food just for the waiter to say she forgot to put in our order. The menu was also not well placed and difficult to read. The service was terrible and understaffed. Would not recommend.
Terrible service and expired food. Both of the franks red hot sauces for customer use are expired from 2022. And they had 1 person staffed for Memorial Day. We prefer around $100 in food over 4 ordered and 1 of our tickets got lost and we never got acknowledged, after 20 min after ordering when we asked about it the cooks said they never got the ticket, when confronting the bar the set about it was told to go to the back of an extremely long line. A woman did come over and take care of us and have a refund. But it wasn’t even that busy and that’s speaking from being in the food industry.
We stopped in this afternoon (a Tuesday late August) to check them out while traveling along Route 20. I wouldn't recommend them. We ordered two cocktails (Moscow Mule and Blue Whale - I believe it was called). They were okay. We also ordered pretzels and beer cheese and their loaded nacho's. The food took forever and they were only mildly busy (no customers seated inside and probably 25 on the deck). It's obviously a small kitchen and I understand some of it but people who ordered ahead of us got their order after us and they only ordered pretzels. The "beer cheese" tasted like cheap stadium nacho cheese sauce with a little beer added, maybe, and the nachos tasted like Old El Paso grocery store taco meat with the same cheap nacho cheese sauce on top. I respect a small menu but if you're going to be small you should be able to be great. The restaurant was lake shore and it was a nice day. We were hoping to have stumbled on to a gem. Instead, we stumbled on to a disappointment.
They only had pizza and pretzels available. No wait staff. They give you a vibrating pager to let you know when your food was ready. If I wanted pizza, I would have gone to one of the many decent pizza restaurants in the area. So we ended up in Victor NY. I heard the main restaurant in Geneva NY was good. I was tempted to visit there some day, but not after the experience in Canandaigua NY.
Just spent $7 on Mac and cheese thinking it was going to be a small portion of somewhat nice food given what else was on the menu…. and it was literally less than 1/3 of a box of reheated Kraft Mac and cheese . No it was not on the kids menu
We got the lake house mango sour berry sour and a an ale. The ale was the closest drink to being somewhat good. Everything else wasn’t good at all. And to back it up they don’t have any beer to replace the bad taste or a friend who would want something good. But than what got us was the undercooked pizza and you could tell because the gumline was still showing! First time for everything, but there’s a last to & unfortunately they didn’t deliver on food beer & service.
drinks were good, don't order food. Kitchen very slow on a night where there were only three other tables. Wait staff full of excuses, and hesitant to apologize. Sandwiches were pricey and the burger undercooked. Don't bother
Time posted as open at noon, but when I tried to come at 1:48pm they were closed.
